One of my literature professors is ADAMANT that the vampire myth can be traced to old folklore about the reps and them reviving and possibly the blood-drinking comes from an evolution of the myth when before, old stories talked about blood soaking the earth where vampires rose. If anyone's interested, here's where you can find my professor's paper about it.

Lately I've been slowly making my way through The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles! I play it in bed each night to settle in before I go to sleep. It's like a good book. The fickleness of the jurors always makes me laugh.

Another recent one I liked: Thank Goodness You're Here! It's basically a little interactive animated movie. Matt Berry is in it. I once saw it described as "Untitled Twat Game"

Deadly Premonition is the worst game I've ever played by conventional standards, but I'd still recommend it because it's bad in really fun ways. Bring some friends and a case of beer.

I like games that provoke a strong reaction. I'd rather play something like DP than a "good" big-budget game that's smooth and pleasing but not all that memorable.

Also on the topic of weird games: This is the secret best channel on YouTube. The more you watch, the better it gets. I mean idk, maybe other people don't see it and I'm just deranged. Still though. I've cried laughing at some of these.

I don't often try to go for a specific texture, but when I do it can be tricky. In real life I love soft jersey knit fabric. Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to nail it in 2D in a way that really scratches that kinky itch.

In general, my drawings rarely come out the way I pictured them in my head. (I think that's how it is for most artists?) If it's looking really off then I might redraw a character or body part from scratch, but for the most part I just go with the flow.

They're not as elaborate as some other stuff I've done, but seeing an animation come together just feels so satisfying.

For hottest: I gravitate toward a certain weirder type of piece where I draw myself (or "myself") with super-exaggerated proportions and/or humiliating captions:

It feels exciting to just go totally off the wall. I get turned on not just by drawing these, but also posting them. I guess it's kind of a public humiliation/exhibitionism thing. (Actually, that's exactly what it is.)

I used to put them up on Twitter, but it got a little too weird and embarrassing. Now I keep them behind the safety of the paywall.

What was the Spring Bonnie suit doing at Circus Baby's? Uhhhh, trust it was Williams hiding spot for it or smth

I'd like to think how the actual springlock failure happened is that Lizzie's ghost manifested in front of Michael all like, "Haha! We finally got you now, father!-" only to see that it, in fact, is NOT Father, and just be really confused

Meanwhile, the springlocks are going off on the boy in the suit because he got spooked coz "IS THAT MY DEAD SISTER?!?!?!?-"

And then idk, girl puts the suit with the now-dead Michael in it back in the main control room because someone's bound to come down here and find himmmmm surelyyyyyy.....yerpppp

But I think she would still tell him that he won't truly "die" because she knows that him and her are kinda in the same boat now 😭

And ykw, maybe then boy wakes up feeling all mechanical and stuff and he decides to leave a message for dear old Father--(listen if I was William and a 6ft 300 lbs robot version of my son who I hate and who hates me told me he was going to "come find me" I would start running dawg)

Maybe his time working in FNaF 1 & 6 (and at the end of 2 if you're a fritz = Mike sorta guy) has him wearing an illusion disc so that in the job offer interviews, the interviewer doesn't get spooked by a literal robot in the room with them 😭

Nononono see, and this is why the animatronics go after him--because it would be kinda funny if the disc made him look like regular old Michael, yes, but it puts him in a suit that William would wear back in the hayday of Freddy's 😭

Maybe the same exact suit that he wore under the Springlock suit to...yk 🔪 (something something like the ballpit where the remnant of the suit retains memories and it's projecting onto Michael via the illusion disk)

Oooh wait this just made me realize that this au allows William to be actually alive for most of the FNaF games--which also makes FNaF 3 fun, because if you think Michael's usually the frightguard, in this AU, William could be working there in a nice inverse of fate!

I just looked up Price & found that he was in the WWII COD games as well as the modern-day-setting ones. IDK but my immediate thought was the boys finding out that he's some kind of time traveler OR that he's an immortal--

& then they start calling him "Gramps" or "Pops" instead of "Dad" :D

Old Man

It was Gaz who found the box. It was in an old storage shed on base, kept shut by a rusted lock and decorated by boarded up windows. He found the building and went to Price to ask him if he go through it. Price was waist deep in paperwork when Gaz asked him.

“Storage shed?”

“I took some pictures of it, if you would like to see.”

Gaz showed Price and the man went through them before shrugging and handing him back his phone.

“Probably here from when the base was used by the old SAS. Whatever is in there probably isn’t relevant anymore.”

“So… can I go through it?”

“I don’t see why not. But be sure to burn any old files and bring me any technology you find.”

Gaz had to restrain himself from jumping around in excitement, “Yes, sir.”

Gaz always loved going through old things. Old technology, books, antiques— He loved going to antique shops with his mom when he was a kid. Something about old things really fascinated him. Gaz drove out to the old storage shed, armed with bolt cutters, gloves, a flashlight, a portable LED lamp (he doubted any electric ran to it), and a face mask (to fight off the dust).

He clipped the lock and looked at it. It looked old. The handle to the door looked old, too. Gaz set the lock aside before attempting to open the door. He ended up having to bust open the door due to the rusted hinges. He was greeted by a wave of dust.

“Fuck, when was the last time someone was in here?”

Gaz shined his flashlight into the small building before stepping in. He was more than delighted to see that the ceiling held up well and that there wasn’t any animals that made their home inside. Gaz gasped when he saw a box of floppy disks on a shelf directly next to the door.

“Score!”

Gaz grabbed the box and started looking at disks. Other than the blanket of dust they were covered in, the seemed to be in good condition. He tried to read the labels, but a lot seemed to be in code. Though he was able to make out something on a couple of them. A Chinese character: 天. He took a picture of the character before he moved on to some ledgers, going through them each. He was out there for hours until the sun started to set. Gaz only noticed when he got a text from Soap.

Suds: Are you alive?

Gaz jumped when he saw what time it was. It was almost time for dinner and lights out. Gaz quickly put the ledger he was looking in back on the shelf before leaving the building. He had to slam the door shut. He ended up putting a new lock that he brought with him on it to keep anyone out before he left. He was interrogated when he finally made it to the mess hall.

“Where the hell were you? You’ve been gone all day!”

“I’m going through an old storage shed I found in the woods.”

“God, must be ancient if you have taken a liking to it.”

Gaz rolls his eyes, stuffing a spoon of slop in his mouth. While Soap teased him for his ‘obsession’ with old things, Gaz thought back to how much stuff was in the storage shed. He wasn’t surprised Price didn’t know about it. There was a lot of grounds of this base covered by woods. Could be several other buildings like the storage shed, hidden by trees and the paths to them reclaimed by nature.

His next free day Gaz went back to the shed. He was pleased to find that the lock he placed remained and none of the boarded up windows were messed with. Gaz pulls his mask on after he removes the lock and heads back in. Gaz immediately went back to the ledgers, deciding to see what the oldest date he could find. The newest thing in the building that he’s found so far were the floppy disks, and even then they went out of style in the 90s.

Gaz flipped through the ledgers and found that the dates were going further and further back.

“Shit.”

It became increasingly obvious that the storage shed was all relating to a project under the code name ‘Shòu’. The ledgers mostly covered expenses but the floppy disks could have other information on them. Gaz flipped through the pages of the ledger he was holding, stopping when he came across a date.

2/7/1776.

Gaz blinked before he took a picture of the date. That’s as far back as the ledgers were dated but he knows they ledgers themselves were newer than the 80s at least.

“Were they keeping track of transactions since 1776?”

Gaz couldn’t see how transactions from more than two centuries ago were relevant now. Gaz puts the ledger back, accidentally knocking another off onto the floor.

“Fucking hell-“

He gets on the floor to grab it when he notices something over in the corner through the shelves. It was a box with ‘Ash’ written broadly on the side. Gaz stood up and made his way to the corner, kneeling next to the box. He opens it up and finds several files inside. He picks one up, seeing the name ‘Thomas Ashburne’ written on it. He opens it, surprised to see little information that made sense.

“Discovered 2/7/1776? What?”

Gaz read further, brows knotted in confusion.

Subject was found alive after impaled by three arrows to the chest. He was missing an arm, the severed limb laying three feet away from him. After a fortnight under observation, Ashburne was still alive and the severed limb showed no signs of rot and was reattached to young Ashburne.

Gaz closes the file, giving himself a moment to process what he had just read. He sets the file aside and looks at other ones. There were many different names but they all appeared to be the same person. Though he kept thinking it should be impossible for them to be the same person, especially since this person should’ve died over two centuries ago. But these were SAS files. They don’t joke about stuff like this.

Gaz picks up another file and freezes when he sees the name on it.

Captain Jonathan Pryce.

Gaz shakes his head, seeing that the file was dated from 1939 to 1945. He opens the file with shaking hands and immediately drops it when he sees a picture inside. That was fucking Price. Beardless but it was definitely him. Gaz breathed heavily as he sits there. His heart was pounding as he tried to think of how he was looking at Price in a file from eighty-three years ago.

A relative. Just a relative.

Gaz stares at the file again, opening it up to look at the picture before reading the information listed.

Heaven’s Hands Agent Ash.

Gaz blinks before reading more.

Agents Ash and Agent Zima headed the Heaven’s Hands division against German forces in Operation Barbarbossa. Agent Ash deployed after three days of the blitzkrieg attacks started across the border. Agent Ash’s orders were to help defend Moscow and fend off German invaders.

Gaz skims through the report. The Heaven’s Hands Agents were the ones that helped the Soviet Union push back against Axis. Gaz puts the file back after taking out the picture of Jonathan Pryce. He swears he was looking at Price but that couldn’t be possible. Was all of this a joke set up by Price and the others? If it was, they did a lot to set it all up. Gaz picks up a file that appeared newer than the rest. It was labeled ‘Ash’. Inside were various pictures and sketches of… Price. Of him in different time periods, clothes. But it was him.

In the older pictures, which were sketches, Price appeared younger. Maybe late twenties. But in the latest one, which was the 1940s one, he looked like he aged. But only maybe a decade. Gaz actually couldn’t recall if he had ever seen Price without a beard. All of these pictures were of him without one.

“This is one elaborate set up for a fucking joke.”

He could maybe see Price joking around, going along with this joke that Soap came up with and Ghost decided to go along with because he had nothing better to do. But Gaz couldn’t think of how they would’ve managed to set this up without him knowing… or without paying a good bit of money. Gaz stuffs the picture of Jonathan Pryce into the file with the other pictures, deciding to take it with him.

Gaz made it back to base, keeping the folder tucked under his arm as he made he way to Price’s office. Price was a damn good actor but Gaz liked to think he knew the man’s tells by this point. He felt weak in the knees when he made it to Price’s door, having to give himself a moment before he knocked.

“Who is it?”

“Sergeant Garrick, Captain.”

“Come on in.”

Gaz steps inside, Price staring at him computer screen when he did. Gaz shut the door behind him and walked up, swallowing.

“Been busy in that old storage shed?”

“Yes, sir.”

Price hums, still focused on his computer screen, “Find anything interesting?”

“Yes, actually. A couple old files. Several ledgers, too.”

Price looks over, his eyes drifting down to the file that Gaz was now holding up so he could see the label. Gaz likes to think he knew all of Price’s tells to when the man was faking. But that look of shock and how he paled looked pretty damn real to him. Price straightens in his chair, swallowing hard. Gaz could see him biting his tongue, looking around before he met his eyes.

“So… that’s what was in the shed, huh?”

Gaz nods and Price heaves out a heavy breath before he holds his hand out for the file. Gaz hands it over and Price opens it, face stone when he looks at the old pictures inside. Price shakes his head when he looks at the picture from WWII.

“Fuckin’ hell…”

“Are those… of you? Like actually you?”

“Afraid so, Kyle. Sit down. We’re going to be here awhile.”

Gaz sits and Price looks at a picture from the 1880s. Or that’s what the date on the back of it said when it was from.

“I can’t believe- You’re fucking with me, yea? You and Soap and Ghost?”

Price doesn’t say anything, just looks up at Gaz with a dead serious expression that he’s seen in interrogations and on the field. This was very real.

“The-The first file I looked at… the report inside said that a Thomas Ashburne was ‘discovered’ on the battlefield after-“

“Found with a severed arm, ripped from him by musket blades with three arrows to the chest. Later it was reattached after they discovered it wasn’t rotting or that… that I wasn’t in pain anymore or dead.”

Gaz stared at Price he looked at the pictures.

“I don’t remember everything. Hard to. But I remember that day. My ‘birth’ as they called it.”

Price looks up at Gaz and he could see something he never noticed before. Without thinking, he speaks.

“What’s the Heaven’s Hands?”

Price sighs, “My old outfit. They had been operating since the Roman Empire.”

Gaz gaps and Price laughs quietly.

“Disbanded after World War II. A lot of internal issues that had been building up for a long time. Us Hands ran, went off to do our own things when the last board member left.”

“There’s others like you?”

“‘Like me’? You mean old? Yes, there is. Some are older than me.”

Gaz hums, staring off, “Other… Hands?”

“Look, I didn’t pick the name. It’s just what they called those who… don’t die by normal means. I’ve lost my arm, been shot through the heart so many times that I’ve lost count, and I have some lead in my head.”

Price smiles softly when he picks up a picture that Gaz hadn’t seen, “We just don’t die. Made us the perfect soldiers. Told us we were ‘blessed by our faith’.”

Price sets the picture down and Gaz reaches over and picks it up. It was Price and a man he’s never seen before. Big beard, wild hair.

“Zima was my shadow.”

“What happened to him?”

“Oh, he shaved and learned to style his hair, learned to fly. Now he wears stupid sunnies all the time to make himself look cooler.”

Gaz slaps the picture down, “NIK?!”

Price snorts as Gaz really looked at the picture. It really was Nik!

“He’s-“

“Old as shit, too. But I’m still older.”

“How is it possible for you to be-?”

“Immortal? I don’t know. None of us know, actually.”

“You don’t know how you’re immortal?”

“No. The Heaven’s Hands looked into it for almost their entire existence. But none could figure out why we were like this.”

“You said the Heaven’s Hands disbanded and that you went off to do your own thing… does anyone else know about… your age?”

Price closes the file and leans back, “Laswell does. She stepped up to be some sort of ‘handler’.”

That explained so much about why Laswell kept such a close eye on them. She was actually watching Price. Does she also watch Nik? Or does he have his own ‘handler’? Has Gaz met other immortals in his life without him knowing? Is anyone one else he personally knows immortal?

"I can only answer the questions if you actually say them out loud."

"Who else is immortal?"

"Nik is the only other one that you know who is immortal. He's the only other Hand I've seen since the disbanding."

Gaz went to say something but Price stopped him.

"Kyle, no one else can know about this. About me or Nik."

"Why not?"

"The Heaven's Hands did a lot during their operating days. Turned the tides of wars, fell leaders and empires while rising others in their place. Few know about them. For everyone's safety, no one can know."

Gaz swallows as Price takes the old picture of him and Nik and puts it back into the file, closing it.

"I need you to bring me everything that you can from that shed."

"Everything?"

"Mostly files about me. Those ledgers you can burn. Anything else you bring to me so I can figure out what to do with them."

Gaz nods and stands, heading to the door. He grabs the knob and Price says something else.

"I'm serious, Sergeant. Not a word to anyone. Not even Ghost or Soap. That's an order."

Gaz looks back at Price, finally seeing the countless years that the man has lived weighing on his soldiers.

"Yes, sir."

Gaz leaves the office, walking with purpose. He wasn't sure what he walked into, but he knew this was only the tip of the iceberg.

Ever had a poem or song written about you: Once. It was super embarrassing. We found an old floppy disk (look, I am old but not that old, my school just wasn't up to date) where a boy I knew had a crush on me had written a poem about me and how my guy bestie had taken 'his girl.' idk, man, I don't even remember the rest.

When was the last time you played air guitar: Probably last week. I listen to music all the time at work and tend to pretend instruments or wiggle around on songs that happen to hit that day.

Who is your celebrity crush?: Mmm, I don't really have crushes. Sure I find many attractive but not really a crush. Maybe Maggie Q since I consistently think of her when I think hot celebs?

What’s a sound you hate; sound you love?: I hate the sound of velcro being ripped apart. It used to just give me shivers through my ears. As for sounds I like, I like the clacking sound of keys on a keyboard.

Do you believe in ghosts?: I believe just about anything could be possible. I simply do not want to be the one to fuck around and find out.

Or a sprain I received when I slid into bases in softball and the subsequent extended time it took for it to heal since my dad would not take me to a doctor.

Do you have any obsessions right now?: Actually nothing right now? It actually kinda sucks. I end up zoning out and don't even know what I did for time to pass as it did--Was really hoping for it to be E.lden Ring though. Either that or I slip back into G.enshin. So I got this ask a while back from a mutual (aka @blackcat2907) and I mentioned in the tags that I could show off my funko pops so here I am! I started collecting them in middle school. They’re probably a money waster and will most likely be thrown away by future descendants but I like them🥰

My mom got me this DC funko advent calendar for Christmas last year and it was very fun opening them all up since it gave me something to look forward to every day. Unfortunately, a lot of them were duds as there were so many duplicates (I suspect the company just retooled actual Funkos and didn’t bother to make new ones lol). Also the flash ones don’t stand unless they’re leaning against another mini. But I still think they’re cute so they’re displayed on their own shelf :)

I’ve never officially counted all my Funkos before but in total (excluding my advent calendar minis) we have 18. There’s a lot more I’d love to buy (including a Huntress funko) but at the moment all I can do is stare wistfully at an Amazon wishlist and I’m okay with that for now😅

(I’m sorry this took awhile BTW. I could lie and say I was busy but I really got sucked into the tv series White Collar of all things. It’s good, I’m on s4 <3)

By the way,, before you leave: if anybody is reading this and is collecting the deluxe editions of these dragon age books or knows where I can get copies for a reasonable price, I would appreciate it. They are very hard to find now since they’re technically out of print I think. I’m missing The Calling, The Stolen Throne and Last Flight. Might have to cave and buy them in their original editions which would be a shame bc I think these copies are gorgeous and have incredible art😅

(I'm screamin' that I accidentally reblogged that S/V post on my art blog but I also can't bring myself to correct that mistake) *COUGH* Truth be told, that response was a bit of old gut thoughts from when I played Violet prior to the release of the DLC, so brain had a lapse there lol That said though, I might as well go over my initial hung-ups over SV:

The universal performance issues that come from how much shit this game loads in no matter where you are. (and lord have mercy, it still chugs today)

Prior to DLC, postgame felt a bit barren. Definitely more than what I could say for base Sw/Sh, but I was still like "ehhhhhh, I guess it's somethin'" (Discoverin' the Ruinous Quartet was a fun experience tho, love those bastards)

WHY THE HELL WAS GEETA SUCH A PUSHOVER ACTUALLY LMFAO While in general, I seem to had far reached the point where I hardly struggle much with offline Pokémon games (far as NPC battles), I CLEAN-SWEEPED GEETA SO HARD, IT WASN'T EVEN FUNNY, WHAT WAS THIS CLOWN'S LINE-UP!? (I heard this was fixed in a later patch, but I was so baffled from the initial run that I haven't bothered to square up against the League again since)

The DLC has been an interestin' experience for sure (I've been puttin' off finishin' the Indigo Disk for a minute now, I've had a bad habit of gettin' games and then gettin' through 80-90% of the way through before I lose steam and then put 'em off a while as of late), though it ties back to my big gripe on GF givin' us what feels like half a game early on for full price just to give us the rest at a later date post-release and I'm fearin' this is gonna be the trend goin' forward too. Pardon the tangent, it's just, idk dawg, aside from BDSP Cynthia givin' me the roughest challenge (took me two failed attempts before I finally beat her on her home turf because I use to own Platinum as a kid and only made it to her once before my copy was lost) and Legends: Arceus in general, this franchise hasn't sparked a whole lotta joy for me since Sun/Moon and I think I came to accept this is just it for me. There's still some good here and there, but not enough to keep me for much longer. I'm cautiously excited for Legends: Z-A, which, unless that somehow turns to a shitshow, will be my final purchase with Pokémon games until there's been some serious improvement with production.

btw i still think theyre going to do unova remakes this year. for a second there i wavered a bit since i realized they could do something with johto first (hgss is older than gen v after all) but i think after indigo disk bringing unova back into the spotlight, it makes more sense to keep that going right into the next game (and there's no pattern yet for second-round remakes, since we've only gotten lgpe. could be total coincidence they did kanto again before sinnoh)

as for whether the remake will even be any good? idk lol. maybe they'll get ilca to do the bare minimum again. or maybe they'll decide not to after how much of a mess bdsp was (i feel like theyd rather not have to come up with special rules for pokemon home transfers again)

and to me legends arceus was one half of the sinnoh remake (the part where they add a lot of new stuff and bring newer pokemon to the region, which bdsp lacked) so they could do another legends game. they could continue the trend of focusing on a mythical and maybe do genesect or victini, or maybe base it on that merged dragon legendary we never really saw? idk

really hope though that they just... do a normal remake again. recreate the world and story of the original game, yes, but add to it. let us have pokemon that didn't exist when the originals came out, add new pokemon forms, etc. i really miss the old remakes being in the same style as the brand new games of the generation and able to communicate with each other, instead of this thing theyve been doing since lgpe where everything is in a weird bubble by itself

at the same time though i liked legends arceus and it'd be nice to see something like that again. my theory has been that it came about because game freak maybe got a little too ambitious working on a more traditional sinnoh remake (trying to work something like the wild area into sinnoh, maybe settling on making five of the areas more open, and ultimately deciding it was too different--or had some ideas to make it even more different--and spinning it off into something new while hiring ilca to cover the expectation for a "normal" remake since they'd be abandoning that)

and now, after having already done the split-model remake with bdsp and legends arceus, would they do the same thing again? i think with scarlet and violet's open world, having it be similarish to those games probably won't happen (also they absolutely wouldn't have terastalization and tera raids--if blueberry academy is in unova and has a special tera orb to enable all of that, that means it isn't in the rest of the region). but they could still have it be more linear while being stylistically similar to sv, as opposed to what bdsp did

ANYWAY how about this actually: have the type of remake we got with frlg/hgss/oras (where there's plenty of new stuff and you can get pokemon that didn't exist in the originals) and then throw in some kind of Dream World inspired side story area with legends arceus mechanics. that would be really cool

.......also there's the whole question of like. what the fuck are they gonna do about bw2. those games went above and beyond the usual third version deal. different story, different starting area and map progression, different protagonists. they can't simply tack on some alternate clothing options and throw in the kyurem/kami/etc forms and call it good. that would be unacceptable

would they put both games in one? would they sell the second as dlc? would the paired games, instead of black remake and white remake, be bw remake and bw2 remake? (would that even work?) or would they really just ignore bw2 as much as possible? honestly with the way game freak's been these days i feel like that might be most likely unfortunately

for the past few years ive been wanting to replay gen v, but with these remakes coming... well, in the past i've replayed rs before oras and played yellow before lgpe, and that was fine, but when i replayed platinum before bdsp came out it just felt like i was playing the same game again except worse. like i think i'd rather have played bdsp and then platinum. so i'll wait until after the remakes before doing that i think (or at least until we have an idea of what we're getting) (not that i think i'll have time to get around to playing those before then anyway)

Played some games last Monday. I think we played some games the week before, but I didn't take pictures and I'm not sure I feel like thinking back that far.

We played our monthly game of Legacy Betrayal. I guess I'll put a spoiler warning somewhere on this post in case you haven't played and want to.

Spoilers ahead!

This round takes place about 30 years from the events of the prologue. The relatives of the three people murdered in the house have decided to investigate the mysterious disappearance of their loved ones. Why they waited 30 years to do so, I can't say. But here they are.

I'm not sure they learned what happened. R. thought it would be a good idea to reanimate the corpse she found buried beneath the kitchen. So, our search for answers came to an abrupt halt as we all had to team up to stop R. and her corpse buddy.

M. tried to use his trusty flintlock, but it misfired, causing it to explode, and killing him. My character died, but not before burying all the body parts except the head. J. pulled off a last minute save! Removing the head and getting it buried in one swift action. He was the only surviver.

Apparently, the corpse we buried is still alive and can be heard speaking to this day.

Next up, we played a round of Kabuto Sumo

It's part dexterity game, part abstract strategy game. Maybe it's just a toy. Idk. But it's ridiculous and loads of fun. Players take on the roll of sumo wrestling beetles. On your turn, you take a disk from your inventory and scoot it into the arena to try and knock out other disks and your opponent. Each beetle has special abilities and a special, odd shaped, piece. One is long and looks like a cactus. Another is just really big. One looks like the pincers of a rhinoceros beetle. You get the idea, right?

I knew J. would love it. He's an avid wrestling fan, and loves gimmicky little games like this. It's a fun game and packs more depth than you might imagine. The disks don't always slide the way you think they will. The smallest gap between the pieces can make all the difference. Throw in the odd shaped pieces and things get even trickier to figure out. It's probably best to not overthink it, but I can't help myself.

Lastly, we played Welcome To.

It's a pen and paper game where you fill in numbers on houses in a little suburb. Sounds boring. Looks boring. But it's the kind of puzzle that grabs ahold of you and makes you want to keep trying till you get it right. I absolutely love these types of things. I'll definitely be adding this to my collection soon.

I think that's it for last week. Tomorrow we go and do it again. No idea what we're playing. But I know we'll have fun.

I'd like to go back to Linux, I think modern wine/proton/bottles/etc might even enable all the gaming I really care about, unfortunately there are no mid-weight Wayland compositors right now: the space that under X11 was filled with XFCE, LXDE, LXQT, even things like OpenBox seems basically empty.

With Wayland it is either Gnome or KDE, or the ultra light compositors like Sway that are comparable to i3, dwm and the like. Which are fine if that's what you want... I used AwesomeWM for years and some other similar systems before that, but they are very much "build your own". You have to put in a lot of work on the config file typically, and you need to add your own status bar, menu system, sys tray, etc generally. Nowadays I'd rather have *some* basics there for me already. But Gnome and KDE are just as all-inclusive and heavy on disk space as ever, if not moreso.

Right now Wayland is becoming more and common, really taking over, but it seems the middle weight category is stalling on transitioning from X11.

Wayland is the better system for sure, and even if it wasn't, it is clearly where Linux is going in the future. It does have issues that need addressed, mainly more protocols need to be made/finalized to fill in the gaps (e.g. accessibility is fucked right now due to different, incompatible versions of the protocols). And then it just needs diversity and maturity of the ecosystem.

Oh and then there is the other issue: More and more common cross platform apps now distribute only one of the semi-sandbox formats: AppImage (modern form of Klik), Snap (Canonical NIH nonsense), and FlatPak (xdg-apps). FlatPak is the most thought out of them, and the best in most all ways... and it still sucks ass.

It needs a LOT more work and evolution, and even then kind only really makes sense if the vast majority of GUI, desktop software was being distributed that way, and the OS package managers somehow could work with it in a reasonable way. Oh, and probably even then, we would want affordable SSDs larger than 4 TB (really 2TB seems the limit of affordability right now).

That's best case for FlatPak. But right now not only do we not have that, everything is split. Some is FlatPak. Some is AppImage. Some also have Snap. Some few might be Snap only... It's horrific.

Sure, if you are using native Linux apps you are probably fine with your classic package manager, but if you want Telegram, Discord, Joplin, Signal... all kinds of stuff like that, you are in trouble. And yeah, I have issues with most of these being Electron nonsense in the first place, but at this point I am dependent on them and there aren't really viable alternatives, one way or another...

In theory I see that maybe the future is highly isolated apps. Mac started doing some of that ages ago. And iOS and Android do it to a large extent too. But IDK that GNU/Linux as it exists now is a good fit for that style. I'd rather see some major forking and a different OS name TBH, if not a totally different system. But that runs into all the issues anything like that always does with the amount of work needed, the adoption issues, etc... (for that matter the containerization/isolation/etc of server stuff that we see with cloud, k8s, docker, etc would all also be better served with a whole different type of system...) (as always we just need infinite time and money to make a new, good system, and then instant world-wide adoption. Easy!)

Windows 11 is by all accounts a disaster and they're rushing Win10 through EOL so in a few years I might be using Mint or Zorin.

But then I thought just how well Spamton fits within the stupid, silly world of Yokai Watch and all the pathetic divorcecore men it has in it.Just had to do it. Now, he puts spam ads everywhere he goes, and inspirits happy salesmen, creating more instances of himself and repeating the cycle.’ Idk how strong he’d be? But he’d have a really annoying ability that can make fights harder. I don’t know what it could be though because I’m too much of a casual to know what abilities are good and which are bad. While it feels to me like Spamton could be a ‘Merican yokai, his rise and fall story is sadly possible in both countries. He’d be found in cities, near dumpsters; or abandonned office buildings. The player could have a quest with the (supposedly) ‘original’ Spamton, who requests a certain disk...

He’s a (optional) boss yokai. So where are his strings? Only at his shoulders! Because...

He’s a bunraku puppet! Gaster is the omozukai and Mike is the hidarizukai. Meaning Gaster is very well versed with bunraku puppetry, to the extent where he doesn’t have to wear a mask. In-game, yes this would be a lot of models to coordinate but: it’s cool. The End. Also Gaster and Mike would only appear when Spamton Neo’s health is low...  His heart IS his obvious weak point- like Gusty Bones I guess lol. No helping him directly sadly. Unless the player comes back after beating him- then they’d be able to ‘help’ him- by being the next person to puppet him. The cycle is endless and he is aware of it. But he might as well be friends with his new puppeteer now. Like all other bosses, once you befriend him he becomes small like his regular self and Ridiculous. Because as much as I love befriending bosses in YW, their tiny chibi ver will never not be funny to me.

Frustrated software dev here. Sorry in advance... please don't feel like you have to respond to this. I totally understand if you'd rather just delete it. And it's 100% not directed at you, but at the community.

I don't understand how most people who play video games don't understand that the complexity of the software that makes up video games has increased exponentially over the past 40 years. It's more difficult and more time consuming and more expensive than it has ever been to develop big games, ESPECIALLY live- service multiplayer games. The sheer number of different technologies that go into a single game like destiny is incredible. This isn't a 2002 GameCube game that you can load into memory, pop open the top, and play without a disk inserted. Yeah, it's a game, but it's also a huge complicated piece of software

The content vaulting does important things that make complete and total sense to me, but that's probably because I've worked on live services where we had to shut certain parts down for maintenance. It makes the game less huge on the hard drive, first off, and it gives devs time to work on fixing big problems on those parts of the game without accidentally breaking more stuff while players are trying to use it. Because sometimes you just cannot freaking predict what a change will do with so many different moving parts (looking at you, telesto). And making big changes to big, finicky programs takes time and money and planning and testing

It's totally okay, I like the info from people who actually work on this stuff. Puts things into perspective better.

The devs are definitely not doing this because they have nothing better to do with their time. And I'm sure all of them would love it if their hard work could stay in the game as is. Not to mention that they'd probably also like to keep receiving money for that content that's going away.

It's important to understand just how complex these things are, even if we can't understand the full scope of it. Thanks for the extra information!
