Unovacope back at it again with more speculation.
In the probable Unova revisit, I'm wondering just how likely we are to finally, FINALLY, after 15 years, see the Original Dragon TM- aka what Kyurem supposedly was before its body split into Reshiram, Zekrom, and the husk that became Kyurem.
I have a few options
They do nothing
This is the timeline where they either skip Unova after Indigo Disk had a lot of Unovaisms, or give us BDSP style "ports" basically. They do nothing new, and they potentially even skip over BW2.
They give us exactly the Original Dragon
Through something akin to BW3, a BW0, possibly a Legends Unova situation, they give us the exact original dragon. Whether an advanced form of Kyurem or a totally new Pokémon only possible through fusion, this is the one most Unova fans want.
And what I fear might be the least likely to happen.
I've been waiting for the Original Dragon since I was about 15. 15 years later, I've seen Game Freak and The Pokémon Company bend over backwards to try and avoid giving fans obvious or expected answers to a bunch of mysteries in the Pokémon world. Sometimes satisfying, sometimes unsatisfactory imo.
Given this, I think it is extremely unlikely they will deliver the Original Dragon as we would hope: a singular entity that is a perfect balance of Truth and Ideal.
Main reasoning would be that, unless it's a Legends Unova title, they'll want to sell 2 versions. That, and they "don't like to be predictable."
Which brings me to my next point
They do something different.
This is broad, but I have ideas as to how this could work.
In the event of an ORAS style revisit to tie it to gen 9
Truth is, we don't know what TPC will do next. Leakers say TPC hated what ILCA did with BDSP, but there's also rumor of a "faithful" remake in the works.
However if in the event it's not a totally "faithful" remake and something new, then we could see gen 9 isms blending into gen 5. Gen 5 is already pretty paradoxical by nature, so new Paradox Pokémon wouldn't be off the table in the same way ORAS included new megas and primal forms.
In the case of "the original dragon," I could see White getting the "original dragon" but in the form of a Past Paradox form, appearing dinosaur esque and possibly taking more inspiration from Reshiram. Likewise, Black could get a Future Paradox Original Dragon in the form of a cybernetic dragon that takes more cues from Zekrom.
The "original dragon" being such a Paradox that it's truth and ideals change how it appears as time passes. Or... whatever. Essentially a creative cop out to sell more than 1 version and also tie it into gen 9.
In the event of trying to avoid the Original Dragon all together
It could be entirely possible that, rather than trying to tie the dragons back together, we get something akin to Palkia and Dialga's Origin forms for Reshiram and Zekrom. Rather instead of these being their original forms, they are more "exemplary" of the aspects they embody. Basically Primal and Origin forms, but instead of reverting, it advances to an Undeniable Truth or Unshakeable Ideals.
In which Reshiram and Zekrom embody even more dangerous forms that only arise when their hero refuses anything but the ABSOLUTE truth, or dangerously pursues their RECKLESS ideals.
In other words, the forms taken that apparently DESTROYED Unova long ago, once upon a time.
What do I want?
I'll be honest, I want to know about the Original Dragon. I'll accept anything that's respectful to the fans that have waited patiently for a long, long time, but I also know that controversy sells more.
Defining the Original Dragon might even close the single most important mystery of Unova, and A. Game Freak thinks they're clever when they leave mysteries unanswered (usually not) and B. It would make another visit in the far, far future harder to justify.

btw i still think theyre going to do unova remakes this year. for a second there i wavered a bit since i realized they could do something with johto first (hgss is older than gen v after all) but i think after indigo disk bringing unova back into the spotlight, it makes more sense to keep that going right into the next game (and there's no pattern yet for second-round remakes, since we've only gotten lgpe. could be total coincidence they did kanto again before sinnoh)
as for whether the remake will even be any good? idk lol. maybe they'll get ilca to do the bare minimum again. or maybe they'll decide not to after how much of a mess bdsp was (i feel like theyd rather not have to come up with special rules for pokemon home transfers again)
and to me legends arceus was one half of the sinnoh remake (the part where they add a lot of new stuff and bring newer pokemon to the region, which bdsp lacked) so they could do another legends game. they could continue the trend of focusing on a mythical and maybe do genesect or victini, or maybe base it on that merged dragon legendary we never really saw? idk
really hope though that they just... do a normal remake again. recreate the world and story of the original game, yes, but add to it. let us have pokemon that didn't exist when the originals came out, add new pokemon forms, etc. i really miss the old remakes being in the same style as the brand new games of the generation and able to communicate with each other, instead of this thing theyve been doing since lgpe where everything is in a weird bubble by itself
at the same time though i liked legends arceus and it'd be nice to see something like that again. my theory has been that it came about because game freak maybe got a little too ambitious working on a more traditional sinnoh remake (trying to work something like the wild area into sinnoh, maybe settling on making five of the areas more open, and ultimately deciding it was too different--or had some ideas to make it even more different--and spinning it off into something new while hiring ilca to cover the expectation for a "normal" remake since they'd be abandoning that)
and now, after having already done the split-model remake with bdsp and legends arceus, would they do the same thing again? i think with scarlet and violet's open world, having it be similarish to those games probably won't happen (also they absolutely wouldn't have terastalization and tera raids--if blueberry academy is in unova and has a special tera orb to enable all of that, that means it isn't in the rest of the region). but they could still have it be more linear while being stylistically similar to sv, as opposed to what bdsp did
ANYWAY how about this actually: have the type of remake we got with frlg/hgss/oras (where there's plenty of new stuff and you can get pokemon that didn't exist in the originals) and then throw in some kind of Dream World inspired side story area with legends arceus mechanics. that would be really cool
.......also there's the whole question of like. what the fuck are they gonna do about bw2. those games went above and beyond the usual third version deal. different story, different starting area and map progression, different protagonists. they can't simply tack on some alternate clothing options and throw in the kyurem/kami/etc forms and call it good. that would be unacceptable
would they put both games in one? would they sell the second as dlc? would the paired games, instead of black remake and white remake, be bw remake and bw2 remake? (would that even work?) or would they really just ignore bw2 as much as possible? honestly with the way game freak's been these days i feel like that might be most likely unfortunately
for the past few years ive been wanting to replay gen v, but with these remakes coming... well, in the past i've replayed rs before oras and played yellow before lgpe, and that was fine, but when i replayed platinum before bdsp came out it just felt like i was playing the same game again except worse. like i think i'd rather have played bdsp and then platinum. so i'll wait until after the remakes before doing that i think (or at least until we have an idea of what we're getting) (not that i think i'll have time to get around to playing those before then anyway)

rainy camp in galar
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes I log into my save on Sword just to camp out with my rainy babies 8u8 I wish all modern Pokémon games had camping - they tried to do something similar with picnics in Scarlet, but it’s just not as fun for me. 🏕️🌧️
if you’re curious about the team, we have Rain (Vaporeon) & Skye (Altaria), of course - then there’s Candyfloss (Whimsicott), Cirrus (Cinccino), Tadpole (Quagsire), & Darjeeling (Antique Polteageist). 🩵
PS: I was chatting with someone about the eventual Unova remakes (though I actually think getting another sequel to make a Black / White trilogy would be very cool, too!), & daydreamed what if they decided to put in something like camping! Obviously, I’d be JAZZED✨ I feel like pizza would be a great camp food, too. It’s a staple food of NY, & it’s very customizable - you can even put Pinap berries on it if you want lol 🍕🍍

I think with the new DLC drop we can pretty much confirm there’s gonna be a Gen 5 remake 👀
-The story takes place at Blueberry Academy, which is in Unova
-Most if not all of the Gen 5 Pokemon are available to catch now with the expanded Pokedex, which makes it an easy transfer back and forth from HOME to the remakes
-Also there’s a specific separate event to catch Meloetta, who is a Gen 5 mythical 🤔
-This probably has to do more with the fact that Blueberry Academy is in Unova, but a lot of the main battle themes in The Indigo Disk have some sort of Gen 5 motif in their soundtracks somewhere
-Castelia City is available as a playable soundtrack in the League Club room!!
-ALSO you can change the club room’s theme to a BW themed one (the monochrome theme). There’s tons of references around the room of Unova locations, like White Forest, Black City, and the ferris wheel in Nimbasa!
-The secret boss of Blueberry Academy (SPOILERS) is Cyrano, who gives you a SHINY BLITZLE when you beat him
If we don’t get a Gen 5 remake within the next year I will be VERY shocked bc they are NOT being subtle about it. I for one have been waiting for this for years, they’d better not fuck it up I s2g

Saw a theory about Drayton and Kieran fitting the Truth and Ideals archetype of the legendary heroes of Unova, and it got me longing for a Legends Kyurem type game.
And you know how Drayton has an unusual resistance to the cold? Maybe it's in his lineage.
I also think about how Drayden’s design takes elements from Kyurem. And how his clan always held the key to joining the dragons.

One more DD's Theory Corner bit for tonight. This is just speculation, and I in no way have insider information, nor am I claiming to.
Tumblr media
This is now my third? Time examining this map this year, but this was from the original Indigo Disk reveal. This map is also in the classrooms, I believe, but its at such an angle we cannot observe it correctly.
Why am I bringing this back up? Find out under the cut, but I'm going somewhere with this:
We didn't see any of these areas in the DLC. So, this goes without saying: This is a future map. Those areas highlighted are future areas as well.
Here's another thing: That yellow Pokemon is some kind of Mamoswine. Mamoswine is not in the Blueberry Pokedex. I checked. It *is* in the Pokedex of BW2, though. The upward arrow could indicate Alpha status, perhaps located at a higher elevation, but that's unclear as of now. That, and I think that Geodude isn't the Alolan variant. I can't see the magnetic spikes on its head, so it's either Kantonian or a new form that seems native to the desert.
Looking at this map previously, I stated that it was particularly odd that they showed all of these weather patterns, as if Unova was going through some shit. In fact, looking at it, the area that's showing a desert may have once been a forest, because I think those are trees there. Of course, the image is blurry, so it could also be people in cloaks. The stormy shot resembles a cliff side near a body of water- but there's nothing indicating water there, so maybe either a lake, river, or maybe some indication of flooding. The icy mountain also seems connected to some kind of port... Maybe it's solid ice? It almost looks like there's something in it.
Also, I think looking at it now- with the additional possibility that areas could be changed severely due to severe weather or climate change, I think I might have an idea of where in Unova it is.
Tumblr media
The western half towards Virbank, but tilted on its side. There's a cutout that looks like it could fit the southern part of Virbank Complex. In addition, there are mountains in the general area of the Unova Map where it appears like an icy mountain in the above trailer map. Keep in mind, Legends Arceus's Hisui also took some liberties with its map in comparison to Modern Sinnoh, such as where they put Sendoff Spring facing the ocean instead of closed off in a forest.
My theory, after culminating everything I've seen so far, is this:
This is a portion of a map of a Legends Unova game.
That being said, I'm not sure when it could be. The most predictable answer would be the past- after all, even in Paldea, we have photographic pictures of Hisui and Professor Laventon.
Game Freak does not like being predictable though- almost infuriatingly so. So what else could it be?
two options:
Modern- Which I'm almost not sure about. After all, the region looks like shit right now according to the map, and yet in Blueberry, our teachers seemed to have no issues going to Unova to just... hang out. Brassius in particular visited Burgh's gym and described it as it appeared in BW2, and Raifort described going to the underwater ruins off the coast of Undella with her Finneon- she did describe TRAPS, which is new and something I don't quite remember (although it's been years since I last checked there). Other than that, though, it sounds normal.
So then what else?
Future- What if this picture isn't a map of Unova as it is or was, but a prediction of the future? Specifically about climate change. Climate change is a hot topic, and weather is pretty weird lately. It does seem weird to focus on weather considering that's usually more of a Hoenn thing, but Unova does have its own weather issues in the form of the genies- now counting 4 in the mix as of Hisui. Specifically, strong winds, thunder storms, and... Possibly sand storms with Landorus.
Why the future, then? Well, again, not as easily predicted. However, there's a convenience of the future as well- Hisui laid out a rough time period where certain ancestors were in Sinnoh/Hisui, but most importantly the timeline that Pokeballs were just then being kind of experimented with. Training as a concept is still relatively new as of 200 ish years ago if we assume the events of Hisui follow real life history and place it somewhere around the Industrial Revolution era. Sure, you could argue that they could come up with other methods to train and catch Pokemon, but keep in mind they'll want to have us throw Pokeballs probably, so we can't just fling spells or whatever.
In other words, they'd have to strictly abide by this timeline- or say screw it and make up a new timeline where it happened earlier, which they are not above doing. But in the argument for a Future Legends game, they don't have to worry too much about timelines except for fixed points. Not to mention, it sets a precedence that Legends as a series- assuming they continue it, which at this point seems likely- does not have to take place in the past and can freely explore any time period they wish, such as a Legends Game set in Ultra Space entirely, or perhaps one for when Oak was a kid, one for Johto AND Kanto combined, maybe even the expedition for Mew itself in Guyana or Faraway Island- If they go with this method, the possibilities will suddenly be endless.
Not to mention, for Unova specifically, it does fit thematically to some degree, and allow more freedom for new Pokemon to migrate there, such as what happened in just two years between BW1 and BW2, explaining Geodude. Plus, think about it. Most of Unova is city after city- BUT nature could always have RECLAIMED Unova after a certain amount of time, as has happened to abandoned cities IRL.
Of course all of this could mean nothing for Unova. There's a distinct possibility that this could very well be a new region- maybe gen 10 or a DLC Pack 2- but I don't think that's too likely. There's also the possibility this is all nothing and I am just an ADHD powered hyper fixated moron that needs to sleep. It seems Pokemon has been scrapping ideas for content lately anyway, so it could easily be nothing and is just either a random map, a scrapped map, or otherwise.
But this tinfoil hat has kept me safe after digging this deep so far. Who knows.

what i really love about pokemon BW/BW2 is just how dynamic everything is. the idle animations of the pokemon, the animated cut-ins of the gym leaders, the music, the sound design, the low-health music shift. the triple and rotation battles. the double battles with wild pokemon. the different viewpoints for bridges and larger cities...even the overall speed of the battles makes the game feel intense and exciting
