Reading a translated chinese BL webnovel and the latest chapter that was released ends at the part of the novel that is the angstiest and most drama filled. I am in hysterics.

(They update fairly often so I just need to be patient but yeah). How am I meant to live knowing the Love Interest has been Kidnapped and there is now a misunderstanding and the Main Character is Sad?!

Absolutely fanatastic novel, I love the translators for picking it up.

crazy take: aside from actual lesbian romance stories, obviously, nothing passes the bechdel test better than moe "cute girls doing cute things" anime. its always just a group of girls, few to no named male characters, boys and dating are hardly ever brought up beyond the abstract, if at all. like we're focusing on the girls hanging out rn, we dont need to worry abt that shit. mugi just ate mio's strawberry.

yumehara tries to get saiki to admit his crush on teruhashi and will not stop asking him about his crushes and he eventually just goes "i dont know about now, but there was this guy, last year.." and shes like.. HUH😭😭

he accidentally goes into a big rant about satou and how stupidly perfect he was and the tactics he used to try and get his attention (strikingly similar to yumeharas typical tactics) and then ends it with "...i dont know if it was a crush, though."

and shes going INSANE

so now, for terus sake and also for her own curiosity, she has to figure out if hes gay or if he likes both☠️

btw i'm sure this is nothing new on account of it having been well over 6 months by now since totk released and we had the no dlc bomb dropped. but i wasnt posting back then so idc ^_^

anyway the funniest thing about totk is no kass 100%. like. what happened to him. they dont even mention him by NAME and the only time hes ever even really mentioned is penn talking about him like this distant legendary figure and not like some guy who was playing his accordion in the woods. i hope amali divorced him

I was already working on it!!

So just a few extra words to further explain some things (especially in the bottom right). Her arc is meant to be one of a sort of identity and self-discovery. She was raised by the crew, and that leads to an undying loyalty to that crew, but it's also the only life she's ever known (and it's also how she build her own identity). I like to imagine that her arc includes her making her identity her own (especially as she learns some Other Details™). Over the course of the story, she'll definitely be coming to terms with how different a life being raised on the Crimson Melody is, but I would hope that the resolution of that would be for her to make that life her own rather a life for her crew.

Anyway, I've talked on and on about how she's my favorite character of mine. I've actually done some character writing recently with her and a new character that I'll likely share when it's done as a little one-shot piece (although it's taken time since there's only 24 hours in a day :P).

Love these guys. Might have to do another character for this.

Books of 2024: THE HAUNTED BOOKSTORE by Shinobumaru, with art by Medamayaki and character design by Munashichi.

So I don't tend to read much manga, BUT: last year, I was trying to buy a copy of THAT WE MAY LIVE (an anthology from Two Lines Press) for a friend for Christmas, and Bookshop sent me the second volume of this series instead?? Which. Looked SO directly up my alley (hello: birdguy with black wings on the cover?? haunted BOOKstore?? "gateway to a parallel universe"??? yeah okay I'll bite) that instead of donating the book (like customer support said I could do, since they didn't want it back), I tracked down the first volume to give it a go, and then proceeded to mosey through them gently over a couple nights.

These were fun! They turned out to be just as Up My Alley as I hoped, they matched my current writing project vibes REALLY well, AND they were a nice break from heavy prose. Winning all around!
