camilikha on twitter posted with mtl the part of the TGCF Audio Drama production team's talk where they discussed hua cheng's character concept, and i love what the AD team said so i attempted a rough translation of the CN text:

"The core of Hua Cheng's character: Ultimate beauty, ultimate danger, ultimate devoutness The simultaneous contradiction and balance in his feelings: On one hand, he has a yearning desire that is blasphemous; on the other hand, he sees Xie Lian as sacred and inviolable, so he simultaneously possesses a devotee's sense of worship and sacrifice [1], and restraint [2]. His love is akin to a fire in the abyss; on the surface he approaches everything with effortless skill and ease, but in his heart he is always simultaneously suppressing and yet burning with fervour and zeal."

*translation notes:

[1] "献祭 worship and sacrifice" here refers to the religious act of a worshipper making sacrificial offerings to their god. the sacrifices offered to the god can be other people/things, or oneself.

[2] for the part about "restraint 禁欲", the CN phrase used refers to religious asceticism or abstinence (the AD team used many phrases with specifically religious connotations in this description of HC). however, "asceticism" felt to me like the wrong eng word for HC as he is not ascetic at all, nor is his devotion or love chaste. I struggled to find an eng word that fit here, but this is what the AD team was likely referring to (his abstinence during the centuries before he met XL):

(I think the AD team may also have been referring to how HC initially attempted to hold himself back early in Book 1/Arc 1 for fear of overwhelming XL at first (during the period before they started kissing and HC realized XL fully reciprocated his attraction and desire).

and just my thoughts but i love how the AD understood HC as character so well! i love how they highlighted how he is simultaneously the concept of the most faithful devotee, and the most ardent lover. whether it's his religious devotion or his romantic/sexual love for XL, it's intense & passionate to the highest degree

i also love how they described the juxtaposition btwn HC's effortlessly calm & competent exterior, vs the intense passion he holds within. i really love how well the AD understands his character and allows HC to be as layered, multi-faceted and gorgeously romantic as he's meant to be

I made Love Me Not!! as a school project -thingy to get a little bit more experienced with renpy + I really wanted to write something more chill(?) and comedic after the attempt at horror with BTP, lol (can't promise for this to be actually funny tho).

The VN's kind of an anti-dating sim; You play as an aroace who's quite magnetic to... bothersome people. You also carry an inconvenient curse making rejecting all kinds of offers and suggestions a hassle (convenient for plot-buffoonery tho).

flower, sender gives receiver a flower. the whole bouquet. what are we, stingy?

there are only so many decadent bouquets one can receive in a lifetime before such gestures lose their appeal.

while her appreciation remains, the thrill has long faded for this songstress. so comes about a new tradition: handing these off to the first person she sees. today's lucky recipient turns out to be the quiet girl dorothea had met at the festivities not too long ago. she quickens her pace, heels clicking loudly against marble as she weaves through the crowd. a free hand raises in greeting, followed by a bright grin.

while she can't seem to remember how to sign “for you” or “would you like this?" dorothea settles for a simple gesture instead: “flowers?” with that, she holds out the offering to the other: deep red roses nestled beside bright yellow daisies and soft lavender sprigs.

( whatever note had been stuck between the petals is long gone. )

To tell the truth, Mark’s day has been pretty miserable up to this point. 

It hadn’t been one big event, but a mountain of small troubles had piled around her, threatening to swallow her entirely. She’d tripped into a puddle that morning, and then dragged her soaking skirts into her class, and the teacher hadn’t understood her signs to answer his question, and the dining hall hadn’t had anything she thought was worth eating for lunch, so she’d simply resolved to wait until dinner to see if the selection improved. It’s a storm cloud that hovers over the quiet tactician today - not that anyone really notices, with how quiet she usually is. 

But the sun comes to break through the clouds, as ever - Dorothea, the girl from the party, with a smile so bright that she glowed, even in the halls of the school. She holds an arrangement of lovely flowers - all yellows and reds and purples - and Mark’s eyes drift from Dorothea’s wave to the bouquet and back. 

“Hello,” she signs, attempting to pick up her smile (and hoping Dorothea doesn’t notice the mud staining the front of her skirts). 

And then the flowers are pushed towards her, with a soft gesture, one Mark hasn’t seen in years. The rain in her expression pauses, brushed away by surprise’s breeze. 

“For me?” she signs, slowly, reaching to take them. “Really?” She repeats the sign, but by then she’s reaching to take the offered gift. The scent of the lavender reaches to caress her face, and she smiles, despite everything. “Thank you,” she signs, her gaze returning to Dorothea. “Thank you, thank you!” She hugs the bouquet to her chest. “I hope I have a vase big enough...!”
