Seven(ish) Sentence Sunday ✍️

I’ve been tippy tap typing away at various different scenes for Chapter 9 of Rival Firefighters 🚒. A few sentences here, a couple of hundred words there … trying to just go with the flow and let the words happen.

Todays snippet is a direct continuation on from this one. (Also I changed it from two days after the tsunami to one. So not the very next day, but the one after that. So Buck’s only had around 24 hrs to spiral instead of 48 … which is probably a good thing 😅)

Eddie had messaged him yesterday, updating him on Chris’s well-being and the results of his doctor & therapist appointments, and while Buck appreciates that Eddie did that (Buck hadn’t been able to feel a single drop of ease until Eddie’s first message that Chris’s doctor gave him the all clear), he doesn’t understand why.

Why was Eddie keeping him informed about Chris? Shouldn’t he be deleting Buck’s number and telling him that Buck is never to see Chris again? That their friendship is done and the only relationship they’ll have is at work? Until even that falls apart, Buck’s mere presence becoming too much for Eddie - a constant reminder that he almost lost Chris. That Buck put Chris in danger and almost got him killed.

Eddie had tried to call him last night, but Buck had ignored each attempt, unable to bring himself to answer and hear Eddie say everything he’s already said to himself for the past 24 hours. He knows he’s only delaying the inevitable, but he just can’t do it. Answering the phone mean’s saying goodbye and Buck never wants to say goodbye to Eddie. To Chris. They’re his family and he doesn’t want to lose them, even though he knows he already has.

Buck drops his head into his hands, ready to give in to the sea of despair and loss that beckons him to dive into its depth and drown, when there’s a knock at the door. With a weary sigh he gets to his feet, goes to the door and opens it. The sight of Eddie and Christopher standing on the other side is not one he was expecting to see today, or ever again.

Christopher smiles at him as he moves forward, leaning into Buck for a hug. “Hey, Buck.”

It’s a bit awkward, mainly because Buck’s brain is still trying to process the fact that they’re here and so he just kind of stands there, one hand still on the door and the other hanging by his side.

“Good morning, Buck.” Eddie says as he moves past them into the apartment.

Buck’s brain finally comes back online enough for him to wrap his arm around Chris loosely in a small return hug, afraid to hold on too tightly. Chris may not have sustained a lot of injuries in the tsunami, but Buck doesn’t want to accidentally hurt him. He’s done enough damage already.

Well, I only have one WIP right now (the others are WIHs - in hibernation), so let's go with Sweet Little Lies.

1 What was the first part of your wip that you created?

Chapter 1. Lol. I write chronologically.

2 If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

I have no idea. Tempted to throw a dart at a list of my latest dance-related playlist. So far I have answered every music question with Dance Forever Tonight by Peter Hollens.

3 Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?

This is a very short piece with 2 main characters, so?? But besides the obvious protagonist couple, I made up a silly little side char named Crystal for one scene, and I love them more than I should, and there is a non zero percent chance I will pick them up for something in the future.

4 What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?

Listen, I'm gonna cry already if this one can get one fan who doesn't live in my pocket 😭

5 What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

Being in the right mindset to actually write it. Chapter 1 took me from November to January, and I wrote the rest of it in February. Sometimes I just can't force it. That, and keeping it as short-ish and having to skip some scenes that didn't fit.

6 Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Nope.

7 How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)

Mostly on foot, sometimes with a carriage, with a driver and all. Fancy shit.

8 What part of your wip are you working on rn?

The waiting part until I feel ready to do one last editing round, then I need to make an ebook.

9 What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?

I know the corner of this hellsite I am in, and I know the incredibly vast audience for straight romance without spilled guts or sex, so uh. I expect the only people outside my pocket will be looking for chars they know from Nuisance.

10 What are your hopes for your wip?

The same hopes as for all my stories. That perhaps someone finds something in there they were looking for.

First of all, Crys, hiiiiiii! I'm doing okay! I hope you're well! ✨ Second, I just want to thank you for asking about "You Drew Stars Around My Scars" and to apologize for the person I'm about to become.

Are you ready for it?

"You Drew Stars Around My Scars" is a The Elder Scrolls V/Baldur's Gate 3 crossover that will likely never see the light of day for several factors, such as the number of WIPs I have, my original novel, school, and, oh, the fact that I've never played BG3 My MacBook Air cannot handle those demands. DESPITE THE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES!, I just think the game is neat and have been sucked into it in part by Astarion. Mostly Astarion . . . okay, entirely.

Background information: Ever since I started writing Keeping Count, I knew Bishop was lifted from Neverwinter Nights and that it was a D&D-based game. And I guess that's why someone mentioned Astarion as a palette cleanser to me a few months ago, shared universe and all. And my initial perception of the character was so cool that I vaguely entertained an alternative Keeping Count where Astarion shows up, seduces Leara from Bishop, and probably sexy stabs Bishop or something. And then I didn't really think about it again. For months.

Then my brain went back to it and Astarion and BG3 and I cried a bit when I realized that my laptop couldn't play the game. I'm fine. And you know what? @cosmermaid is right: Leara deserves a better companion than freaking Bishop. Also please forgive my minimal BG3/D&D knowledge, 95% of which I've absorbed since like last Monday ish.

SO! "You Drew Stars Around My Scars" features Leara getting picked up by the Mind Flayer ship post-Sovngarde and taken via dimensional travel to Faerûn where, following the crash, she joins the usual party on a quest to get rid of the parasites. This Leara is very specifically taken after the planned Chapter 15 of Keeping Count for Reasons. Can Leara use magic in Faerûn since she's not able to draw it from Aetherius? No idea. Can she Dragon Shout? Also no idea. Transdimensional magic mechanics are weird. Regardless, Leara probably mentions something about being Dragonborn and gets weird and confused looks because her definition of Dragonborn is totally different from that in the Forgotten Realms. Linearly, I have no idea what would happen, but overall, Leara and Astarion both suffer trauma from following people who hurt them and they have complicated relationships with sex. They could have what could be a very cathartic relationship. Or I think so, anyway. Also, I kinda want to know if vampires react differently to the Dragonblood.

Symbolism in the story could heavily involve stars and light. Leara means "Light of the Sea" while Astarion means "Little Star". Leara is dependent on the stars for her magic but she's lost them, while Astarion wants to walk in the light even after the parasite is gone. There's no balance and it has to be found. They're both so cold and have lived in the shadows for a long time. There are dark versions of themselves they don't want to be anymore.

There's the possibility that, given her background in the Blades and Dominion, Leara might see through Astarion's mask in Act I. But she'd end up helping Astarion (and probably not giving on that she's on to him until later) because she's a bleeding heart. Two other very important things about this underwhelming but brain-rotting story: First, Astarion wouldn't ascend. We would need a Leara Disapproves sticker because she would not be for Astarion doing that. The second thing is, well, since motherhood is an extremely important part of Leara's character, I did pick out a name for a possible child. If Leara and Astarion had a daughter, her name would be Ilmarien, derived from Quenya, Ilmarë, meaning “starlight”.

Because after all this time, Tolkien elves still make the most sense to me.

Marcus had once told you about his failed marriage and an engagement that had been broken off because his fiancée had feelings for another man and had chosen him in the end. In both cases he had admitted to moving too fast, jumping to the next big step before his partner was ready. He'd proposed to his first wife in college, when they were both still too young to fully comprehend what a marriage really was and the compromises that came with it. Before they'd truly gotten to know each other and figured out if they could live with each other's flaws. She had signed the divorce papers almost a year to the date they'd gotten married. He'd known his fiancee for even less time, weeks, rushing because he wanted her to join him in D.C. Then there were the few women in between that just hadn't ended up fitting with his personality or lifestyle, to no one's fault.

Though there had been no malice between him or any of his exes, by the time he'd met you Marcus had learned to be cautious, having been burned too many times, and you had been appreciative of him taking it slow (or at least as slow as was possible for him). You had been burned too many times as well, though your relationships had been a lot more turbulent. For some reason you'd been a beacon for "men" who thought they were cool, but in reality they were just punks and assholes.

Marcus had shown you how a real man loved and how life with another person could be shared. Some mornings like this one, you wondered how you'd gotten so lucky to be in the same art gallery as him that fateful night you met.

You'd woken up that unusually warm April morning to the feel of him curled up against your back, his forehead pressed against your spine and his right arm resting over your right thigh, as if to anchor you close to him. You could feel his chest rising and falling steadily against you, a sign that he was still asleep, so you did your best to remain as still as possible, basking in the softness of the moment.

Like many times before, especially since you'd become pregnant, you were grateful that your paths had crossed and that he hadn't found a good match until you (though you knew that was selfish, Marcus himself had said he was glad too). You were never going to take moments like this for granted after your sad romantic history.

The baby inside you had other plans however, seemingly having sensed you being awake and decided that meant it was time for their morning workout, an abundant amount of kicks and tumbles commencing. Some mornings like this you thought with amusement that they must think you were their personal fitness gym, one that allowed bouncing off walls. You were fine with it, happy even. It meant that they were getting stronger and it wasn't like it was painful yet. You rolled onto your back and placed your hand habitually on your ever growing belly, shutting your eyes to focus on the movements that were still generally gentle, but much more frequent as of late. As a wispy smile formed on your lips an unusually strong tap against the bottom of you bump made your eyes snap back open in surprise. You'd felt that under your palm! Which meant that...

You nudged Marcus awake and he groaned softly. "Five more minutes," he said groggily. His eyes were still closed when you fixed your pillow so you could sit up against it.

"Fine, but then you're going to miss your chance to feel the baby moving," you told him, trying to sound casual about it while a grin was breaking out on your face.

His eyes flew open and he peered up at you, excited. "You think I could?"

"Give me your hand," you ordered.

He eagerly brought his right hand towards yours and you guided it to the spot you'd last felt the tapping movements. "Be patient. Not all of them are that strong."

Marcus gave you an acknowledging nod and pulled himself up the bed into a more comfortable position that would allow him to rest his head against your shoulder while still keeping his hand on the spot you'd left it, your hand resting beside his as you both waited with bated breath for a kick that he could feel.

You knew exactly when it happened because Marcus' eyes grew as wide as saucers and lit up just like they had when you'd told him you were pregnant. His met yours, and you felt your mouth pull tight at the joy on his face. "That's our girl," he declared in awe.

You nodded fervently as tears filled your eyes. "Yeah," you choked out.

Dr. Harrington had revealed the baby was a girl at your last ultrasound three weeks ago, and though you hadn't had a preferred sex in mind, something about your first with Marcus being a girl felt extra special, especially when he brought it up. Maybe because he sounded so proud of her already.

Noticing how emotional you'd become he lifted his head to look at your face and twisted so he could brush a stray tear away when it spilled out. "Happy tears?"

"Yeah."

He tilted your chin up with one hand and gave you a feathery kiss before meeting your eyes. "And how are you this morning?"

"I'm good," you promised him. You really were. You'd never lied to him about how you felt physically and emotionally and that hadn't changed with your pregnancy, even though some days you were tempted to for the sake of not worrying him. As of late you hadn't had to think about it, the latter portion of your second trimester having been going pretty smoothly besides an occasional wave of intense emotion of one or another overtaking you because of the pregnancy hormones, something Marcus had been very considerate of, of course.

"Good," he said. "Cause I was thinking we'd get out together today. We haven't been out on a proper date in weeks and I think we both could use some fresh air, among other things."

"What'd you have in mind?" you asked curiously. You were really tempted to refuse and just lay in bed all day with him after the hectic work week you'd had, but you were also hard pressed to refuse a romantic date with him.

"I got us emission tickets and a parking pass to the National Zoo," Marcus informed you. "I was thinking we could spend most of the day there and eat at a restaurant of your choice after?"

His expression was hopeful. You beamed up at him and palmed his cheek, already grateful to him again. "Now how could I ever say no to a date involving cute animals with my husband?"

"That was the hope," he told you, smirking.

"Five more minutes, then we get up and dressed," you decided.

"Sounds like a plan," he said happily, placing his head on your chest and a hand back on your stomach. You swept your hand through his sleep mussed hair and let your eyelids fall again as you focused on both his and your unborn daughter's movements, on Marcus' words as he began to murmur to her. "You're a strong one like your mama, aren't you?"

You didn't leave the bed for another two hours.

The National Zoo had always been one of your favorite places to be, especially on a spring day as seasonal as that one turned out. You didn't even need a jacket as you walked hand and hand with Marcus around the park, taking your time and taking as many breaks as you needed, which was a lot more since you'd started showing your pregnancy. It had affected your knees the most so far, though you were sure your back would start complaining more soon enough.

Marcus' favorite animals at the zoo were classically the tigers, and you both hung out by their exhibit for quite some time, observing as one lazily sunbathed and two others chased each other playfully. They were stunning creatures, and startlingly large. You always forgot how big they truly were, something that always made you very thankful that there weren't wild cats that large roaming the D.C. area.

You also spent a significant amount of time in the bird house, since you loved all the colorful plumage on most of the species it contained, especially the brilliant red feathers on the scarlet tanagers.

Your favorite animals at the zoo though were the alpacas. Your glee upon laying eyes on them every time you visited the kids' farm section made Marcus laugh because they were far from rare to see outside of cities and every time he did you reminded him that horses are even more common but horse girls go crazy over them all the time. It didn't matter if they weren't exotic, alpacas were cute and fluffy, especially the chocolate brown ones, and that was enough to brighten your day immensely.

Funnily enough, when you walked up to their paddock a chocolate one was the first to approach you inquisitively, and you broke out into a grin when you noticed her impressively rounded tummy. "Looks like you're ready to pop," you observed as you slowly stretched your arm out to pet her neck. She leaned into your touch, making your lips pull back even more. "Feel good? If I could reach it, I'd scratch your belly too. I'm sure it's as itchy as mine is half the day." She hummed contently. "Did you see me and figure that I'd understand?" you inquired. Dogs and dolphins and some other particularly intelligent creatures had been noted to act differently, often more gently and protectively towards pregnant women, so it made you wonder if the alpaca had sensed a comrade. "I wonder what your little one will look like." You'd been daydreaming about how your own would look like for months. In every version in your head she had Marcus' eyes.

"We'll have to come visit again in the summer and find out," he said, a bright smile plastered on his face, having been watching your entire interaction with the alpaca mama.

He stepped forward and she took a step away from you, throwing her head a little and pinning her ears back.

You tried to soothe her as you planted a hand on his chest to stop his approach from behind you. "She's going to spit at you if you come any closer."

"They're the only animals who hate me, I swear," he grumbled and you giggled.

"Don't take it too personally, she's probably just not used to big, strong men trying to get up in her space."

He quirked an eyebrow up quizzically. "You trying to hit on me, honey?"

"Is it working?" you responded.

"It always works," he told you, grinning ear to ear. "We should get out of here and get supper before I get other ideas for passing the rest of the night."

"We could eat takeout on the way home instead," you suggested playfully, leaning into his solid frame.

"Don't tempt me," Marcus growled lowly, turning you away from the alpaca paddock. "You're getting a proper meal tonight."

"That's definite," you teased, loving the way his breath hitched a little after.

He found the sensitive spot you had along your rib cage and tickled it with the tips of his fingers. You broke out into a fit of painful laughter. "Okay, I'll stop!" you shrieked, trying to struggle out of his embrace.

He immediately ended his attack and continued leading you out of the zoo, smiling the whole time.

You were too.

hi! i absolutely LOVE silver underground. like when i tell u its so hard to find a unique, well written, non-ooc characters, accurate setting/universe and with no unnecessary/cringe smut scenes (urs fits SO well and necessarily into the plot). TRUST ME, nothing is hitting me harder than the fact that we only have four-ish chapters left, but it will also be so bittersweet and lovely to have finished an entire novel-length story in under two years!

As for your question, i haven't touched ch24 yet. I have a few wips i wanna work on in conjunction with SU, but i always post 24-72 hr notices about chapter drops on tumblr when i'm ready to publish!

WIP Wednesday - Flirty Sausage Roll Edition

I have lately been working on an as yet untitled university AU. It's going to be long-ish and fully indulging in the tropes of the genre, so expect romance, fluff, a bit of angst, and some university politics.

Here's the preliminary summary:

PhD student Aziraphale is busy enough with his studies at Tadfield University. But at the start of a new semester, his measured routine gets shaken up by the sudden responsibility of teaching, the arrival of an irresistible new housemate, and a flirtatious sausage roll.

For international readers, this is what a sausage roll looks like:

Aziraphale didn’t realise the sausage roll had been flirting with him until nearly a week after it had started. To be fair, he wasn’t used to being flirted at, and certainly not by pastry. ‘You cannot be this oblivious,’ Anathema said with a heavy huff, when Aziraphale wondered out loud why the man in the costume kept insisting he take a sample from the tray, even though he’d already had at least half a dozen over the past few days. They watched as they approached the newly opened Bargain Bakes, tempting customers with free treats offered by the ridiculously costumed lad presumably working for minimum wage and leftover steak bakes. Tadfield High Street was long, straight, and narrow, and bustling with groups of students enjoying the last day of Freshers’ Week. On Monday, the serious business of studying would begin, but for now, there were still parties to get ready for, pubs to crawl, and new friends to make. Sausage roll man stood outside the bakery door with his tray piled high with flaky sausage rolls, drawing looks of curiosity and suspicion from students and locals alike. Though it was impossible to tell through the polyester mask covering his entire head, he didn’t appear to be particularly diligent in his task of distributing the samples to as many people as possible. Instead, he lounged about shifting his weight from one foot to the other, waiting for people to approach him. Aziraphale noticed the exact moment he was spotted. The sausage roll perked up, legs straightening, tray raised higher in his gloved hands as he waited for Aziraphale and Anathema to pass. And, just as he had done every morning since Monday, the man in the costume made a bee-line for them, practically shoving the tray at Aziraphale. With an embarrassed smile that he wasn’t sure could even be seen through the tiny holes cut into the fabric that covered the poor man’s face, Aziraphale picked one off the tray, raising it in a toast. ‘Thank you ever so much.’ The dead-eyed smirk of the cheery sausage face made him squirm. In an afterthought, the sausage roll man offered the tray to Anathema, who only laughed in that carefree way of hers and said, ‘No thank you, I’m vegan. My friend here loves a sausage, though.’ Aziraphale gasped and pulled her along the high street, one hand hooked into her elbow, the other clutching a cold and worryingly pale sausage roll. Anathema cackled all the way to campus, where the university’s main building awaited, its worn sandstone facade bathed in the golden light of an October morning.

First fic published on Ao3: Signs of life, published 14.12.2022. It is more of a dribble, but for me, it was the first piece of fiction writing I've done in something like 15 years.

Last fic published: Straddling the line (in discord and rhyme) - my first pure pwp, I think it turned out really well!

Fandom/ship I only wrote once: I've stayed pretty firmly on my lane; I have only one fic that is not Jayde: (Be)longing which is for Games of Thrones (yes, got fic in year 2022, I just felt like it). Incidentally, it is also a wip, but I do plan on finishing it some point...

Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: Aaaaah, this one I thought a lot 'cause one way of the other, I like all my fics. But fine, I'll go with the most popular one: Let it fade, let it linger. I honestly think it's good. It's the first one I plotted and really thought over just by myself, the premise works (even still) and I thought it was pretty nice and tight on how the plot went. I could blather on about this one for a very long time, but I am fond of it.

Fic I wish more people read: strangers looking from afar (getting closer) Seems like Arkham AUs are not very popular. I wish more people would read it, 'cause I had such alternatively fun and horrible time figuring out how Jason and Slade work in that universe. This one cooked in my head for a long time before it was ready to be written, and I think it turned out pretty good.

Fic I agonized over: Ah, this was easy to pick: Every piece of you is easily the most difficult time I've had writing. First I thought about the idea itself for months before I actually started writing, then pushing every chapter out was slow and it didn't feel like flowing at any point (except the last chapter, but that I'd mostly written in plotting/planning stage). It didn't go the way I've planned and is one of the examples where I meant to write some smut and then couldn't (didn't feel like it). It was also one of those things that kinda pulled me down, nagging at the back of my head that 'you should finish this fic, you failure'. Doesn't help that I had a bit of a difficult time IRL at the time... Sigh. Anyway, I really like the last chapter and the first chapter. And the rest isn't bad either. Doesn't read as agonizing as it was to write :D

Fic that popped out fully-formed: Think a little clearer This one I wrote literally in one sitting in my notebook. The editing was just writing it to word with minimal edits, it just flowed. Goddamn joys of writing :D Might have something to do with the fact that it is a sequel to the first must I ever did, and I had a sense of accomplishment for publishing that. I wrote this pretty much the next day and it neatly finishes the story that was left just a little bit open in the first part. Anyway. Inspiration, my beloved.

Fic I'm proud of: Waiting (for the other shoe to drop) I am proud of many fics of mine (like Let is series), but chose this one cause this is the one where I really tried two new(ish) things: Humor and action. This is the first where I went in with the idea of making it funny (I do write kinda-funny lines here and there, but that is mostly incidental) for realz. And the last chapter is the first action scene I wrote, where it isn't just a few lines about shooting or something. Took some time and effort to figure out (for both the humor and the action), but I think it worked out well. :)

One Step ❤️‍🩹 It's a month after the chemical attack, and Casey's still not ready to face the world. She'll only leave home for therapy with her recently reunited friend, Tobias, playing chauffeur. But today, he wants to see if she's willing to take a little step back to being her old self.

Part 3: The Best Laid Plans - Casey's friends are determined to get her and Tobias together at long last. When Bryce has a chance encounter with Tobias, it seems like all systems are go. Will they get the fairy tale ending they deserve? Part 4 - And that's what happened... Their friends have given up. Misunderstandings, misassumptions, and good old-fashioned fear lead to turbulence and turmoil for Tobias and Casey, but after a week of no contact, only one of them seems to be hurting, at least on the surface. I've made vague mentions of a wip every now and then. It wasn't something I was ready to share since it was so new and felt too precious. Something that was just for me. It's not Jily-- it's a new ship, new fandom, new subject matter... But I'm on chapter 4 out of a planned 12(ish) and I'm ready to let some of this cat out of it's bag.

2. What is your favorite dialogue scene you've written so far?

She noticed him...

Out of the corner of her eye, in between classes in the hall, on the outskirts of the gym or lunch. His wild hair, his band shirts, his trailing scent of cigarettes, forest and leather... But it was sort of interesting how once she noticed, she'd look up and find his eyes on her, too.

She couldn't shake the feeling that he noticed her, too.

Literally any time Eddie and Chrissy have a conversation ☀️

Chrissy- it's hard being in her head for extremely personal and relatable reasons.

Something pressed down on her foot, at just the toe. Chrissy opened her eyes to find Eddie's boot against her sneaker, hard enough that a smudge of gray got left behind when he pulled away.

Eddie watched her carefully, his dark eyes narrow with concern, flickering between hers. It felt like he was looking for some way through her stormy thoughts. Like there was some safe shelter he could hunker down in. The image, comical in it's impossibility, sent a pitiful, sighing laugh out of her mouth.

"I feel crazy," she whispered to him.

Eddie's eyes softened, and he adjusted in his seat, hand lifting to her-- face? Hair?-- before dropping back down to his desk. His boot pressed against her shoe again.

"You're not."

/moor: I've taken this to heart and am currently plugging away at "Shangri-La". I am going to work on the above fics, along with the final chapter of "Pop the Top", to try and move them as far forward this year as I can. There's a good chance "Shangri-La" and "Pop" will be completed, along with *possibly" "Kimono no Onna", if I pull hard. No guarantees for “TAoDaRM”, but I’ll try and crank out two chapters this year, if possible. We’ll see how close we get to the end from there. ;) Thank you for helping me prioritize!

What do you wish moor would write more of?

i guess more akatsaku fics? i've been lowkey wanting a comeback era of akatsaku fics like back in the days While I love moor and her writing, I have a soft spot for her UchiSaku fics in particular. Historical AU/ japanese lore MadaSaku and KakaSaku, i'm a big fan. MinaSaku please 😅 but generally stories where prospective partners of Sakura are somewhat possessive and experience jealousy over other interested males 😅 Mada/Saku happinesses. There's always drama plots, I would like for them to have a happy ending for once! DILFs. Of all shapes and sizes. Comedy

/moor: Dude, for the AkatSaku fics, I'm with you. I've been wanting a renaissance of those fics, too. (Then again, I've also been wanting to indulge in more dark!fic writing where I could explore some of that, and comedy, to have fun with it again.) I wasn't confident in my writing (fanfic for one thing, but Naruto-fanfic) back when those fics were popular (pre-2010s or so?), unfortunately. ^^; Fingers crossed we can have a few little one-shots this year that get to dive into those days. /moor: UchiSaku: My luv, I'll never part from UchiSaku. My ADHD/hyperfixations don't allow me to give up some things, and dark haired brooding men are here to stay. /moor: Historical AU/Japanese lore: Ooooooooh, I wonder what I could do with this, maybe in a one-shot... I loved writing the "Tengu" fic... Let me see what Ghibli-ish notions cross my  plot notebook as I ruminate on this a bit. /moor: MadaSaku and KakaSaku: Mmmm.... favs of mine, too. I admit, I stopped writing as much KakaSaku very specifically because they were my most frequently plagiarised fics. I spent most of last year's writing time (literally, weeks and months from January through early autumn) taking down plagiarised fics and fic-scrapers. It killed my will to write and is the main reason there were so few updates last year. I have nearly a dozen KakaSaku WIPs that will likely never see the light of day because of how certain I am they'll be plagiarised (again). HOWEVER, I am participating in a few fic exchanges this year and am currently working on several KakaSaku one-shot gift-fics, so those WILL be published probably by the end of March 2023. If you're on my Fic Update Notification List, I'll be sending out a link when they're ready! (And there will definitely be more MadaSaku.) /moor: MinaSaku: I want more, too. I have some plans for this pairing—Likely won't be available until 2024-ish, but yes, they're coming along. ;) /moor: Possessive of Sakura-fics: YES. More coming, and definitely in 2023. What do you think moor's biggest writing problem/challenge is? (delays between updates? low-quality updates? poor organization? poor writing? skipping between ideas for stories? inconsistent updates? inconsistent story writing? moor not keeping promises/meeting expectations? etc.)

I think that we are lucky you share your stories at all, but if I had to pick something it would be that you have too many WIP open at a time. Since all the updates that come out are meaty and high-quality, I don't mind the wait at all. One thing I struggle with trying to find a specific fic from Moor if it's been a while since I've read it. There are a lot of platforms and posts to check and sometimes I fail to find what I'm looking for. Maybe a sort of index page/masterlist of the fics and their location could help in case it's a common issue? (I suck at bookmarking and lose fics all the time which is a me problem, so feel free to ignore this wish and sorry if I'm being unkind/selfish :)). Delays with updates. Your quality is immaculate and I cannot emphasize enough how much I love your fics!!!111oneoneone ❤️🔥 if I could have one wish it would be more frequent updates, or maybe some update schedule? but I know that’s hard so I’m happy with what we currently have esp when it comes to my absolute fav, Forest Fire ❤️ I have no problem with your writing and I think you keep your readers updated enough.  If I were to be extremely nitpicky, maybe have progress reports on fics?  

/moor: Too many WIP: You're 100% correct, and I have no excuse, I'm sorry. /moor: Masterlist: This was an excellent point and I took it to heart. The Masterlist is available now and updated when I post each fic and update. :) /moor: More Frequent Updates/Update Schedule: I'm currently trying to update more frequently to close out a few fics; I'm not sure I'm able to be consistent enough for an actual update schedule, unfortunately, and I'm sorry. My real/non-fandom life doesn't lend itself to consistency. /moor: Forest Fire: Some know this after following me for (literally) years, Forest Fire is one of my precious babies. One of my fics that I worked hardest on. Huge portions of FFIII are written; however, it's one fic wherein I refuse to compromise my writing. My goal is to (someday) have it fully written so that I can post regular updates for it again, as I did for FF II. Possibly monthly, or even bi-weekly, updates, to keep the story flowing without suffering from huge gaps of time between posts. I apologize, I don't have a timeline for when that will be possible. /moor: Progress Reports: This is possibly feasible. Let me think about this. How did you decide on your name? How do you think your personal experiences have informed your stories, if at all? What is a trope you would never write because it doesn't appeal to you? Alternatively, is there a trope/plot you are dying to write but you're afraid you won't do it justice? /moor: My name is a variation on part of my first name. Many/most of my stories are based on personal experience in one way or another. :) A trope I could never write would be... hmmmm... Constant suffering, I think. Particularly children suffering and abuse. A trope/plot I would love to write but am afraid I would never do justice... hmmm... (You ask good questions, they have me thinking). Kindness. Or a story where the protagonists don't come out on top; I like seeing people win and overcome their challenges, but that isn't always a mature outlook, as we in reality must often learn to live and accept that we won't win all our battles, at least not in the way we'd like. I struggle with accepting that, so it's something that I wouldn't write in my fics often/well because it grates on me. : )

When will you update kimono no onna? Its so good and no pressure just really curious and eager for more😅 /moor: I squeezed in an extra update for you over the holidays! :)  There will be more coming later this year. We're closing in on a major plot point.

Do you feel your interest is increasing/decreasing for Naruto and therefore your fanfiction? /moor: Hmmm... I don't know if I'd say 'interest' as much as 'patience'. I find myself reading comments or commentary from readers who sound too young to be reading my work, and that frustrates me. I also am tired of dealing with plagiarism, assholes reporting me to AO3 for bullshit reasons and having to deal with the AO3 staff who have deleted some of my stories, and individuals who convey an insufferable amount of entitlement towards authors. I am very fortunate to have the engagement I do with so many wonderful friends, readers, and writers. I struggle with my patience for dealing with the BS that sometimes accompanies writing for a popular fandom. It’s one of the reasons I am (100% seriously) looking into how to create and run my own fanfic/creative outlet website.

Do you listen to anything when you write? /moor: Constantly. :)  I have many different playlists. Some for specific chapters of a fic, some for a fic in its entirety. Most are in my Spotify! :)

i adore your works, wips, snippets and crumbs! i know life gets in the way quite often, so i hope you never feel too bad about not being able to update or anything! you and your health always comes first! Most recently in the past year (actually, the last six months), the car accident, memory failure, medication complications and then the subsequent multiple heart attacks have also slowed me down, to the point where I'm now on Long Term Disability (LTD) from work, until we can sort out what's happening to my insides  (And no, I'm not "that" old, I'm 41). It's been a battle, and I know I repeat myself here, but I can't express enough how much it means to have my real life falling down at times and yet be able to see a kind comment or compliment on a fic. It reminds me yes I can still do something right even if I can't do everything I wish I could.

Oooh boy, I've got more than a few works that are either A) put on hold for current works or B) stuck in timeline hell. Whenever I make fully fledged fics, I make a rough draft of a timeline of events to sort of follow. For example: Roark wakes up and goes to work in the mines -> someone tells him about a strange noise in one of the deeper caverns in the mines, so he goes to check it out -> surprise wormhole!!!! -> eeby deeby. Not as complicated as a full on storyboard, but keeps the general idea of what I'm going to write while allowing room for adjustments or new, smaller events. Keep in mind: most of these WIPs are stuck in timeline development hell. (Oh and, if you didn't know, all of these are about Roark. I'm not kidding. Actual brainrot)

Apopalypse from BTD 5?!?!?!?! (Has actual words written, I think maybe about halfway-ish done? Turning out great so far for my first... I won't spoil anything more.)

Daaaaaad, the creatures whisked me away to a different dimension again! (For some reason, the next chapter is being evil and hard to write. Probably because I'm introducing someone who will be incredibly plot relevant. Either way, on the back burner.)

So, Three Half-Siblings Walk Into a Bar... (Timeline development hell. I've got the beginning and the end mostly figured out, but the middle is giving me more trouble than #200 did... somehow.)

Sending a Minor Background Character to Ancient Hoenn is Not Cool, Necrozma (weirdly enough, this is THE first Roark piece I've written. Trying to figure out timeliness, but I've already got a solid few chapters done. Probably need to update those chapters since the characterization is likely out of date)

Oh How the Turntables (timeline development hell, kinda. I've got the most important aspects planned out, but that's like... three events. Stretched out across the timespan of a few years.)

The Future is on The Other Side of The Mountain (Timeline developed, just need to actually write it. One of the shortest fics I probably have on here, so it's a wee bit weird I haven't actually written it yet)

Loki: The Rewrite, Grievance (Fanart), 101 Ways to Make a Salad, Stay, and Wrath of the Manda'lor

Most of those were posted in 2020, and in Loki's case, 2021.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do respond to comments! It's basic fandom interaction and I love screeching about fics with other people lol. As long as you don't just comment "update now" or something along those lines in a rude way on a fic that's been on the backburner for a wee bit, you won't get a smartass answer :)

Uhhhhhh, I don't know. It's probably all the Whumptober fics I've done though tbh. I meant to do one for 2023 but I'm still working on that because it's an AU and I wanted to do more than just torture my little guys.

I'd rather be happy with what I've written and take yonks than do a rush job without much thought and never be able to sleep at night. Normal things and reactions to that situation... (probably not normal tbh).

Action, I'd say. And whump.

Finishing my wips...also having really long winded sentences. They make sense to me and I do try to chop em down during editing but I also miss a few lol.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've sprinkled Cheunh into my fics where appropriate, so I'd say go for it. Having translations in the notes or making it obvious what's being said in the scene helps a lot though. It sucks reading big passages of something you don't know and then not knowing what any of it means unless you whip the translator out or there's notes.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Tinkerbell. None of those have ever made it to AO3 though and they're shoved to the bottom of my wardrobe in the spiral bound books that 12 yr old me wrote them in.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Eldritch Horror Cackles Academy AU where the castle is alive and hungry. It's unposted and only has three chapters written so far, but love it. It's truly something lmao. I think I had a sketch on this hellsite somewhere that was kind of a teaser for it.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to always comment. Comments are a gift and I want to recognize the time someone took tell me they liked my work. Plus, I love talking about writing and stories and all that.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Life has enough angst already, I don’t need to add to it with my fics. I much prefer a happy ending. That said, since I’ve left everyone hanging on Stella Caeli for 6 months (I’m so sorry!) and it’s at a disaster cliffhanger, it would be that. I am almost done with the next installment, though, so hopefully soon it won’t be angsty either.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maybe Divine? That’s the last part of Hecate’s Summer Playlist. Either that or An Uncertain Spring

Do you get hate on fic?

I haven’t yet.

Do you write smut?

It probably comes as a surprise to most of my readers, but yes. Just not in any of the stuff I’ve written for TWW or posted on AO3

Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not really, though I do enjoy letting Rosemary and Thyme make a cameo every now and then. I’m not against them, just haven’t done it.

I don’t think so.

Not that I’m aware.

No, but Sparky probably deserves a co-writing credit for all of the work she’s put in to my fics.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

This is a toughie. Certainly, Hecate Hardbroom and Pippa Pentangle – or Hecate and Ada Cackle – or Hecate and Julie Hubble. Honorable mentions include Jean McBride and Millie Harcourt, Xena and Gabrielle, Jenny Flint and Madame Vastra, Rosemary and Thyme, Lady Hardcastle and Flo, SuperCorp, Laventon and Cyllene… The list really could go on.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

Probably my first fic – a massive crossover with characters from everywhere, a healthy dose of Mary Sue-manship, a bizarre premise that turned out to be not so bizarre when six months or a year after I started it, Galaxy Quest sort of had the main plot point.

What are your writing strengths?

I feel like dialogue is what I do best, followed by plotting.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Action sequences. They feel very stilted to me.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Sure, write it. I've had bilingual characters.

First fandom you wrote for?

Not counting that first atrocity, Xena and Gabrielle – though technically it’s a Mel & Janice one.

That is like picking a favorite child, isn’t it? Well, I shan’t be in denial about it. Hecate’s Summer Playlist holds a special place in my heart, closely followed by An Uncertain Spring and All Roads Lead to Home.

Virana WIPs:

Ati waited - One shot

Virana/Atitaya. Ati started crushing on Virana at 13. Pretty much Atitaya trying to convince Virana that have feelings for each other but Virana keep turning her down. It goes through from pre RATLD to post RATLD and has sprinkling of Rayaari.

Virana's Assistant - Chapter

Virana/Female OC. Omegaverse. Virana is obsessed with her pretty assistant but is useless and doesn't do anything about her feelings, just gives her gifts like a weirdo that OC waves off. Raya drags Namaari around in an attempt to get the two together (they're just friends).

Rayaari WIPs:

Size Difference - One or two shot

AU. Raya is small. Namaari is tall. Raya is aware of her crush for Namaari but doesn't think she is Namaari's type so she's content to be friends. Namaari worships the ground she walks on but doesn't push, she wants Raya to come to her when she's ready.

Roomates - One shot… maybe more

They're roommates xD The lights go out while Raya is doing her "self care" routine and she is FRUSTRATED because she walked into their place while Namaari was working out. They hang out and things get spicy. I am thinking about working on them getting together over a few chapters.

Rock!N and Pop!R - One shot

Raya becomes a pop star and leaves Namaari behind in their small town. Raya goes on a talk show and reveals their old relationship. During the time, Namaari joins a rock band and is already rising to fame when Raya reveals that they used to date. Social Media goes crazy and demands Rayaari come back.

Rice - One shot

Raya brings rice and farmers to Fang to help against their constant battle with food. She also asks Virana's blessing to court Namaari. During the celebration, Raya tells the Fang children about her ancestor, the first chief of Heart, bringing rice to Heart. Namaari in turn tells her a story of how rice came and was lost to Fang.

Namaari's club - One shot

Raya works and trains at the martial arts center her dad runs and Namaari is part of her mother's business(es). Maybe mafia ish… Anyway, the martial arts center is across the street from the coffee shop Namaari frequents. Raya follows her one day and sees her enter the club. After working up courage, Raya goes to the club.

Modern A/O - Chapters

Omegaverse. Raya and Namaari grew up as childhood friends together until Raya shows as an omega. Their parents separate them and they don't talk until they attend college together when Raya is having trouble with her math class and Namaari is the only one available during her schedule. Goes from friends to enemies to friends to lovers.

Lone Arrangement - Chapters

Arranged Marriage. Raya doesn't want a partner. She tries to convince the council of Heart elders but they insist she has one, a great partner, so they launch a tournament for her hand. She enters the fight. Namaari needs an alliance with Heart to better trade and standing for Fang. She enters the fight for her hand in marriage.

Jewel of Wishes - Chapter

There is a new jewel and new adventuring awaiting. Raya and Namaari are attending an event in Fang when the palace's vaults are attacked. They follow the attackers and find out that they are searching for a jewel of power called the Jewel of Wishes. They tell Virana of the jewel and she worries what this means for Kumandra. She sends out letters to the other lands, who return letters that their own vaults were attacked as well. On the same night.

Defiance - One shot

Raya defies Namaari and she gets tied up. This has lots of edging + multi orgasms as punishment.

Corporate Namaari - Chapters

Namaari and Raya grew up as best friends, even though they were in different grades, Namaari is 3 years older than Raya. Namaari has taken over her mother's title as CEO. She is a workaholic and her mother decides to meddle. Raya just graduated high school and got into the college in the same town Namaari is living in. Raya pursues Namaari but one day, she receives a text to leave Namaari alone…

Captured and delivered - One or two shot

Namaari has been tracking and trying to capture Raya for two years for stealing the Dragon Scroll. Every time she has Raya in her grasp, she manages to escape. Talon soldiers manage to capture Raya when she attempts to steal from one of the stands. They intend to collect on the bounty on her head and contact Namaari.

Beast of Fang 3 - Chapter 3/5 of Beast of Fang

Omegaverse. This one is totally straight forward! This chapter is about them travelling to Heart for the mating ceremony and announcing Raya's pregnancy!

After a fight - One shot… Maybe two

Raya saves Namaari. They do their normally sparing but Raya can't help but feel VERY worked up about it. During dinner, she is acting weird towards Namaari but Namaari is SHY and nervous about offending Raya further. Unable to sleep, Namaari wants to know why Raya is upset with her and sets off to her room. Outside the door, Namaari hears some suspicious noises. *eyebrow wiggle*

A/O Cave - One shot?

Omegaverse. Raya and Namaari are tracking down bandits into the mountains of Talon. They stop to let Chief Tong know about them crossing into his land. He warns them of a snow storm coming but they assure him they can get to their group in time. Of course, they don't and end up passing time in a cave. During all of this, Raya can feel the coming of her heat. You know what this is xD I kinda wanna use this as an opposite of Beast of Fang where they don't get mated and married right away.

I was tagged by @initiala .  The muse has been frustratingly silent lately.  (Seriously, I can’t seem to write a word to save my life, even though the next chapter of Until the Stars Are All Alight is all outlined in detail and seemingly ready to write.)  Hopefully listing out my WIPs will help jump start the muse again!
