dreamt that i was a super famous witch that nobody knew a damn thing about but everyone who knew of me was like deathly afraid of me. most of these ppl were so afraid that they would basically blame just about anything bad that happens, big or small, on “the witches curse”

i, however, was simply chilling

just doing all kinds of magic by my self and living my life and having a generally pretty good time, an when i wasnt doing like magic experiments and blowing shit up, i would be engaging in my various hobbies and/or cooking. i had this nice little garden that “culminated” into this very pretty, slanted spiral made entirely out of various grasses and plants. it was all arranged in a very special way that honestly im not sure how id describe, almost like a cylindrical hall of mirrors? anwyays most days id conjure up various instruments amd play then for the plants 🌱 as ime watering or pruning or digging stuff up. i also had a second garden which the plant spiral led to. this one had some plants too, but it was more dedicated more towards the various exchanges ive made with all the random strangers, who ive accidentally encountered at “my mountain”. large floating mass of land that i conjured up and shaped to be my home where i spent most of my time, especially since it was so vast and had such varied environments. anyways the random encounters ive had with ppl were all my fault, due to maybe some curse or perhaps it was this inherent chance that laid within my magic. any spell or conjuration or like literally anything i did that had to do with magic, had a small chance to “summon” complete strangers from anyplace and anytime, usually at the very least one at a time until i send that specific set of ppl back to wherever/whenever they came from.

anywyas so ya like i had these little floating globules allover the place that i grew in my garden (by conjuring up spheres of water, letting plants take root IN the water and then taking some of that water and doing other magic shit withit) that basically served as like those spots in museums where u press the button and a prerecorded voice tells u about whavever ur looking at. i used them and basically had them set up as traps all over the... island cuz ppl would be showinf up whereever and whenever. the trap was simply just bestowing "information about the time, place, where, who and how". again like those museum info buttons with a prerecorded message. i didnt use them unless i felt it was absolutely necessary and like they were about to start some shit or smth. normally at first i would try to ignore them cuz with the entire island being the way it is ( chalk full of vegetation and life, oh we even got a cool lil desert somewhere around. its not too big but not too small. i had sculpted it for the purpose having access to certain desert based plant and animal life for like cooking or reagents or just sliding around the dunes) they could probably survive on their own. i also didnt want to drop whatever inwas doing to go greet thrm cuz half of the time a lot of them would immediately recognize me somehow. one of the few reasons i ever left the island was to try n find the shithead thats spreading rumours about me to the point that most ppl around could tell who i was at first glance as well as having them be as afraid of me as they are. it was annoying tryna deal with that every time so i usually let them do their thing unless i could see they were like causing trouble or they werent gonna make it.

main reason i didnt immediately send them back was cuz i had to make sure i sent them back properly, also like, i wanted to see if i could trace + assess how the rumours were developing so inwould eventually talk to them and show them SOME hospitality. i know it wasnt anyones fault in particular that ppl kept showinf up, but when most ppl who do show up are THAT afraid of u based on some bullshit rumours, dealing with it was just...annoying... after proving thst im not an immediate threat and that the rumours were bullshit(sometimes i WOULD fuck with them cuz i knew they were boutta start some bullshit), i would usually ask them where theyre from and what its like and then try to divine some of the local specialties and cook that for them. then if they liked it id give them a couple samples of the islands local food. we had a LOOOOOT of fucked up and interesting plants growinf here, some was the natural course of things and some of it was by my design and experimentation. of course making sure there were no side effects that i couldnt just magic away was a concern since the local wildlife and my own self wasnt a particularly useful point of reference, given all the fucked up magic bullshit that the island itself and i are always up to.

i dont remember any specific visitors in particular but the way it would usually go is,

they show up whileim doing magic

-> if they arent causing trouble, i leave them alone (even if they were causing trouble i usually had jus tthe right spell to like fuck withthem enough to get them to stop, i usually liked to use enchantments or illusions that like would guide them towards a lake and let them chill out OR i would just fuck with them indirectly or directly until they were ready to like not destroy me n my island)

-> once im done withwhat im doing and like feel like it, i otherwise lead them to my garden/house or some specific location (or i go to them)

-> we do the whole "who are you" song n dance

-> i convince them to talk about where theyre frome

-> i make food or drink for them or let themdo it themselves or ask them to teach me, OR i just figure it out

-> we talk more

-> i learn about the time n place theyre from, they learn that the rumours are more or less bullshit (cuz i mean i guess they COULD be true considering how powerful of a witch i was but yknow, will and intent an all thatbulshit ALSO LIKE IM A FUCKIGN HERMIT WITCH)

-> we exhange info about our various goings on and lifestyles

-> if theyre interested i invite them to make some kind of "tether" that would help not only send them back but also allow them to return if they so wished. i tell them about the garden/shrine (cuz it enshrines all the memories and effects dedicated to our various encounters hehe)

-> tether gets made (and yeah the tether could be just about anything, a scrap of paper, maybe something with something written on it, a sculpture of some kind, something culturally significant to the person in question, knickknacks, or some times they just give me something they were carrying on them at the time. one thing i usually liked to do was trade knives. i would make a knife (sometimes out of pure magic, or i would just fire the smithy up and we'd make it together) for them and i would ask if they wanted to trade and if they didnt id just give them the damn thing anyways. i mean yeah thats what the tether was. it was always an "exchange". the objects exchanged would always serve as the tether. always)_

-> i place the tether in the second garden/museum/shrine of encounters, putting them iin a display case, a hanging rack, or set it up in some way, shape, or form. taking care of these was also a nice way to pass the time.

->using the tether, i send them back if they want to go back immediately or i give them a magic thing that lets them go back whenever they want and let them do whatever, as long as they arent fucing everytihng up

-> i go bakc to enjoying my solitary floating island lifestyle

im also slowly starting to understand more and more the idea of dark fic content as a coping mechanism, and i think that’s really cool. it’s definitely not for everyone and that’s okay! but again, if it’s not for u, don’t do it, simple as that.

Where should I look to when im "looking for sign" from the universe?.. It would be nice to feel that I'm doing what needs to be done. That I'm not going in the wrong direction and potentially sabotaging myself. Any help? Plz.

in my personal opinion, i think the universe sends you louder signs when you need them the most! it's very possible you're on a good path, so the universe hasn't felt the need to send you any signs! when i'm really needing support, i'll just ask the universe for a big, obvious sign. don't be afraid to ask the universe - out loud, write it down, etc. sometimes, the signs are really small (repeating numbers, always seeing the same animals, moments of reflection, random chills/etc) - other times, i would ask for specific signs (ie: you could ask the universe 'please show me 111/repeating numbers if im on the right path'). if you have oracle or tarot cards, i think that's also a great way to communicate with the universe!

i can tell you that if you're really on the wrong path - the universe will generally (imo) send you a big sign, or make it very obvious!! personal example but - like three or something years ago i was dating this awful, toxic guy. i would not let go of him despite all the red flags and lack of genuine feelings and i refused to reflect on anything. i feel like i got little signs from the universe (ie: seeing repeating signs after thinking 'should i leave for good') but i ignored them. then one day i was just journaling and talking out loud to the universe when i was going through yet another rough patch with this guy, and i was like "am i doing something wrong? is it me? i need a sign". next day - i kid u not - my whole house flooded. out of NOWHERE💀 i took that as the biggest sign from the universe ever!!!! (honestly universe was probably tired of me asking for signs then ignoring them lmao so it gave me one so big i had to move out of my house for almost a month) it forced me into a big reflection on my self-worth and whole situation and i swiftly ended things and my life got so so so so much better!!! after that moment i got a lot more in tune to signs from the universe, i learned to pay more attention + accept them, etc.

i think i had a tendency to ignore them before/go against the universe (ie: continually going back to someone toxic, staying somewhere i'm comfortable instead of risky) - and i think a lot of ppl are like that too. the universe will force you out of that comfort zone one way or another!! doing lots of self-reflection and truly being aware of your situation can really help if you're confused about the path you're on! ask yourself things like "what would make me happy? am i currently happy? what would i need to do to achieve the things that make me happy?". journaling can really, really help with that!

if you're having a lot of trouble connecting, you could try buying yourself some oracle cards (i prefer them over tarot cards honestly) and doing a reading/asking for a sign that way!! you could even do those pick a cards on youtube/twitter if you don't want your own cards, but be very careful of falling into the loop of only relying on those and becoming dependent on other's general readings! i don't think it's healthy to frequently consume that content because you can lose track of your intuition/feelings/etc.

i think the more you believe and are willing to receive the easier it is to spot them! but i definitely think the universe encourages independence and doesn't want anyone relying solely on signs. i will say sometimes i go for weeks/months without any signs rly, then other times i'm seeing them multiple times a day. i think it really depends where you are in life and how much support and guidance the universe thinks you need at that time!

i do also want to say be careful of becoming dependent on things like signs or other ppl's validation!! a lot of ppl nowadays (and i was one of these ppl about two yrs ago too) fall into these traps, where they lose trust in themselves and instead rely solely in online tarot readers/videos and signs like angel numbers when making any decisions/feeling your emotions.

here's some signs that i would say are more common and you can try to "look out" for:

numbers: repeating numbers, always seeing the same numbers, etc

animals: i think a huge sign is animals. are you constantly seeing a certain type of bird? cats? are you only seeing animals with white fur? these could be signs!

colours: adding on to the last two, seeing a certain colour over and over can definitely hold meaning

synchronicities: these are some of the most obvious ones! thinking about something and then someone brings it up, thinking about someone and then they message you, having a dream about something unusual/you wouldn't normally see and then seeing it the next day

dreams: pay attention to your dreams x100000!! they are often full of hidden signs - be it from your own self or the universe. don't be afraid to google your dreams; start writing them down in great detail (every detail matters - strongest colours, animals, plot, scenery/place, etc) and see if anything is recurring as well (indicates a stronger message)

in terms of "ships" i dont really consider myself a shipper despite using some of those tags ... its mostly done for exposure purposes- you will likely see most of what i write between pairs is either vague, non-romantic, or just suggestive. i like to play into the humorous flirting they actually do, the suggestive jokes, or whatever else. i like to bring up ships in a joking manner (ex. situations that ppl jokingly interpret as suggestive when its not, playful comments about being a 'couple' etc). so when i normally write, its not on my mind in a typical way? but it can be suggestive enough i may tag it as such. i will take some requests along those lines, but i wont write pairs im not familiar with.

1. ill wait ill wait (to be the one) by georgiestauffenberg made me ship it cause holy fuck dude. I dont know if i ship them romantically when i saw them onscreen cause first of all, age difference is kinda weird lmao. Second, they dont rlly interact much outside literally the first couple of eps. But he was so soft for her, and i felt like they had so much unexplored history.

so i looked at fanfics cause i was wondering if ppl still ship it, then i liked the description of this one so i gave it a go.

Basically the premise is that vanya dates a much older man who seems to know a lot about her. And it was amazingly in character and just provided their characters some depth that u wouldnt find outside of a romantic relationship between them. (The implication of five pining while she doesnt know who he is, their missed chances when he time travelled, fives missed chances of living and having a 'normal' life bec of his own hubris, vanyas insecurity and being able to open up bec shes with someone whos known her since childhood). Its so sweet and thats how i was like, oh yep i can do so much more with these two, and what has kept me interested in drawing them etc.

2. My favourite things are the shippers cause i made some friends in the fandom who are super cool and supportive! I dont get super involved in fandoms and usually just watch from afar so finding people to talk to and muck around with in this tiny fandom is super cool 😭

Though thats not to say I havent come across some bad apples in this fandom and things that I dont like. I think thats the importance of carving out a place for yourself and ur friends in fandom tho.

Another thing I like about the ship itself, i just like the grumpy person whos soft for one person trope. Its so cute. I like all the little clues in canon on how their relationship as kids is quite warm, which is interesting cause five is basically the star student and he can be quite cold vs vanya who is the black sheep of the family.

I also like how five likes her powers even when she caused the apocalypse he spent the majority of his life in lol. Like its a popular hc that five is just a wife guy and i love that.

I see vanya as the type who has a lot of love to give, and she sometimes has unrealistic expectations of what her partner can give. Betrayal and lies really angers her, but also when her partner cannot meet her expectations of love she gets very upset bec its also an indication of how shes not good enough, or not loveable enough to be able to have this in the relationship (her insecurity means every failing always comes back to her, even if its out of her control).

I feel like five would be a level-headed person enough in the relationship to not be afraid to say 'vanya ur being stupid' (ie. the s2 confrontation lmao). Also, five's personality means she will never have to doubt his actions bec she knows hes the type who will not give u the moment of the day if hes not interested.

Not to mention they also have the whole apocalypse vs. saviour, hero/villain thing. Theres just a lot to explore!

3. I probably have several. But mostly I dont mind five being a dick to vanya bec first, even if the appeal is hes soft to her hes already kind of a dick in canon lmao. Also, vanya isnt a child. Shes grown and she can handle petty af things like five telling her shes not good at cooking lol. I also dont mind it cause I feel like people are getting too afraid to write... conflict for fear or portraying an abusive relationship or smth. Like, chill. Conflict is fine, resolving it is how u get a story. However in saying that, nobody should be obligated to write any way unless you want to! Fanfic is for comfort so if what your doing is making u happy then its good enough!

horrance which i also ship but i love the platonic and romantic relationship equally:

1. I came in tua in general not shipping anything so Im honestly not sure. I do remember someone doing a meta before s2 came out that was basically how ben acted weird when klaus summoned dave in s1 that made me go 👀 Otherwise, tua s2 rlly made me like them cause tua FED horrance shippers. Like..... the fact that klaus didnt want ben to leave him, and ben knows thats why he stayed 😢 or the fact that klaus was all over him for some reason???? 1. I think tua canon romances are just so lackluster 😔 Idk who writes the romances but I was just like 'nice' but afterwards I dont really think about them. I love their dance scene and the message behind it! Otherwise, theyre sweet like most of the tua romances but im not super invested, same with all the non canon ships.

2. I really feel like tua needs to decide on what their relationship is. Like, just say its incest or not and stick with it 👀 Or if you wanna support it or not, just make up ur mind. I think I would've liked it better if I found the characters more interesting. Allison especially I feel like suffers from the fact that tua just doesn't want to make her ''mean''. They want to make her supportive and are less interested in making her flawed (ie. she should've had a conflict with Vanya in s2, but the writers didnt want to write the girls fighting which is stupid imo and not what that conflict is about).

In regards to Alluther, the scene where Allison gets annoyed at Luther for sleeping with someone else felt out of line. Like, how are you marrying other people and moving on but Luther isn't allowed to? But honestly, I don't mind if they actually just acknowledge it and make it a deliberate part of Allison's trait that Allison can expect a certain loyalty automatically from other people (which can tie in to her childhood being a star, and the rumour).

Luther is a big simp for Allison, which is sweet, but at the same time it would be nice to have him explore himself for a bit, and who he is outside of the academy. Then maybe they can rekindle their relationship again as new people and see where they go from there.

3. I don't hate them, but they're ok. I'm not super invested in them, just like all the tua canon romance. But I wouldn't mind making content for them if I were a bit more invested in their characters. I love their dance scene in s1 and I feel like its super a underrated portrayal of what their relationship is meant to be. I know no one talks about it but it's just such a great scene, and I'm pretty sure the choreographer was into interpretive dance? The scene had a lot of meaning that I don't see people dig around with.

Essentially I'm pretty sure the fairy lights are obviously a throwback to their childhood together, spending time outside of Reggie. So the dance scene kind of symbolized that pocket of space they made for each other in their life (even if theyre far away, or with other people, they will always have that space for each other).

The way they danced was more like playfighting than dancing, which means their relationship isn't sensual. It's more ''pure'', and romantic. Its basically two kids rekindling their love as adults. I also think this is a response to the incest, cause in s1 tua klaus literally said that 'thank god Regg is not their real father' right before Allison and Luther meet lmao. So its kinda like saying Allison x Luther isnt supposed to be 'ohh step sibling hot' but two people who experienced the same trauma as kids and finding comfort with each other (and rekindling that love after many years).

Hi, anon from the question about the portrayal of drug use in Wolfstar fics here.

I think I worded my ask poorly, because I didn’t at all mean to demonize the use of drugs or alcohol as coping mechanisms or just in general. I completely understand why people use substances to get through the day, especially those who live in situations they can’t escape from, and drugs or alcohol provide comfort or relief. Some people use them for fun, whereas for others it can be a matter of survival.

Montparnasse’s fic “Eclipse and Transit” mentions that Peter suspects Remus of using heroin, and Sirius comments on his own use of cocaine in the story. That was what prompted my ask. I think it makes a lot of sense that people in their situation might use drugs, especially with all the shit happening to them and around them in First War-era fics.

I do think that it’s a subject that needs to be approached carefully, because there’s a huge difference between writing from experience and writing as someone who’s not done any research or is looking at a subject with no understanding of its impact on others. Not exactly the same, but I’m hesitant to read fics that discuss sex work when written by people who have never been sex workers themselves, or at least have a good understanding of the issues that sex workers face in their daily lives, because it’s easy for things to be portrayed in ways that are ignorant or hurtful.

I was curious about your thoughts on the matter because you have interesting perspectives and headcanons about R&S, and I enjoy reading them. I’m sorry that the way I worded my ask was insensitive, and hope that this makes a bit more sense.

in the professional world, ive done a lot of freelance editing for peoples manuscripts. mostly novellas and short stories, but some graphic works and longer novels, too. im a sensitivity reader, meaning (im sure u know but for anyone else reading) i check work about people with my lived experience to make sure its an accurate portrayal. as a person of color and a gay and trans person, this can be anything from kind of weird or cringe stuff to outright harmful stereotyping. the work that i do helps people better portray their characters and gives them an all around better story.

obviously, sensitivity readers and editors dont really exist for fanfiction, unless the writer is really really dedicated. so, you get those fics that portray these sorts of things weirdly or harmfully etc etc. honestly, i think most people are afraid to ask a drug user or sex worker what their experiences are like. can you imagine getting the ask like, hey, whats ur life like? im writing a drarry fic. lmao.

basically, what im saying is, much to your point, if you dont do the research or have experience (or hire someone with the experience) with the subject youre writing, then you arent going to write it well. this goes for sensitive issues like drug use and sex work, but also really anything. heaven knows theres awkward portrayals of gay men out there, but even further, if you werent a fry cook or a business major or a single mom youd have trouble writing with and understanding a character who was one. research is imperative no matter what youre writing, especially with sensitive issues.

that being said, if you ARE doing the research, fics about sex work or drug use etc etc can be really well done. personally im not a fan of fics about addiction, due to my own experiences and my general preference for happy fics, but i can totally see the appeal. as long as a writer is willing to put in the work, i see no problem with this sort of fic. also, im sure i speak for everyone when i say montparnasse’s work is worth it. havent read that fic bc of the infidelity tag unfortunately but i love their work overall. great example of an author who puts thought and time into this sort of thing

anyway i hope that answers ur question at least a little bit. honestly, if ppl arent sure, hire a sensitivity reader! and sorry again for initially writing ur question off <3

I'm starting 2 play pathologic but I'm scared any tips for how to make the start of the game less impossibly heavy and mortifying (I accidentally started a fight got scared and restarted my game)

HI im typing on  my computer this time bc i wrote likean essay long response to this and tumblr crashed instead of saving this also adding a readmore bc this will get long im sorry.. but thank u so much for sending me this ask i am so excited u r playing pathologic first of all!! i will format this in a numbered list so its a bit easier 2 read...

1. im assuming the fight u started was with the ppl loitering in evas garden, right? this is a v common problem new players face and an intentional obstacle left by the devs to teach u tht u shld avoid confrontation and fighting at all costs when u can help it. the fighting system in this game is intentionally difficult and u will usually die if u get into a fight if u dont have a gun. just leave the guys alone and let them stay and u will be fine. there arent any consequences to this so dont worry!!

2. starting and then restarting the game a few times when ur getting into it is very normal so dnt worry abt that!!! i had to restart my save like 3 times before i got the hang of things, so dont be discouraged. tht being said the game isnt for everyone so if u just consistently are not having fun w it dont force urself to play it!!

3. check out the settings page where it lists all the controls for the game, bc it will show you some mechanics the game nevr tells you about. use Q to open up your quest menu which will show you your overall goal, main quest, and sidequests. the main quest MUST be completed by the end of each day or there will be ingame consequences, so be careful. sidequests are less dire. 

the I key opens up ur inventory!! 

you press E to talk to people

the P key opens up ur status menu iirc. be sure to keep track of that too, but statuses will also pop up in the corner of ur screen when they get actually dire, too, so if u dont check it u wont be completely clueless dw!!

the L key opens up your letters menu. u will get letters from different ppl throughout each day and usually they pertain to the main quest at hand or a sidequest you can do so that you know what youre supposed to be doing each day. whenever you get a letter a spinning icon will pop up in the corner of the screen and the sound of a paper flipping will play, but the game never actually tells u abt it which is a big design flaw on its part.

4. pay attention to the time!! esc or q will pause ur game and pause the flow of time, but opening ur inventory wont. time is a super important aspect of the game so just watch out 4 that.

5. spend all your money on food on day 1. dont bother with eggs or lemons so much as meat, bread, fish, vegetables, and milk to a lesser extent. its important u do this on day 1 for reasons u will find out later.

dont worry abt keeping ur hunger meter completely low tho!! make sure it doesnt max out, but dont try to keep it empty, ull waste food very quickly that way and its a very important resource.

theres also an area in the game near where u start out that has some milk left out near a statue of a woman that you can pick up. raising ur fists in game will make a little dot appear to help you aim for things, and i always use that to focus on what i want to pick up because it can be very difficult otherwise. heres the area im talking about

6. check ur map frequently whenever ur going anywhere!!!! the layout of the town is intentionally confusing and u will get lost without ur map, esp because it shows u quest markers of wherever u need to go. 

the walking in this game is also very slow and tedious. u get used to it but it is a feature of the game so just keep that in mind.

i used this map to keep track of where all the shops in town are because its a bit difficult to tell otherwise and can save time if u need to get stuff (like food and medicine. dont bother with clothes bc theyre honestly useless but clothing stores do sell needles which you should collect for bartering.)

7. bartering is a BIG system in the game and its actually what you use to get a lot of the items youll need. you can barter with pretty much every random npc you see in town, just press E to talk to them! different people will trade for different things and find value in different items, so just pay attention to that! 

look in trash cans and bins located around the town to find useful things you can barter or use yourself, like water bottles. id recommend especially saving items that children will trade for like jewelry, flowers, needles, hooks, sharp objects (like knives and switchblades), and nuts. dont eat the nuts, trade them with children.

8. one child in particular will have an item called “schmowder” on her occasionally. theyre important for reasons that you find out in game later. if she has a schmowder, trade for it, and save it. it costs a lot so save up things this child will trade for. dont use schmowders on yourself, save them for later. the child looks like this.

unrelated but i just think this girls design is sweet. i like her dress :)

9. sometimes characters will give you items for quests. if your inventory is full, the item will drop to the ground in a bag with a thud. watch out for this and be sure to check your inventory and the ground to make sure you actually have the item you need to do a quest.

10. quests can be confusing sometimes, and if u ever feel lost i recommend checking the pathologic wiki for “the bachelor’s route” to find a guide about each quest that happens each day. OR you can just dm me and i can help u if u dont want to risk being spoiled!!! i dont know everything but if i dont know the answer i can just look it up for you since i already know the story of the game.

11. dialogue can also be confusing sometimes, so choose what you say carefully! dialogue trees that you can go back to are usually rare and dont actually happen that much. the dialogue system is also intentionally confusing and tricky. dont be afraid to reload a save file if you want to learn more or see what other dialogue options would have got you.

and thats all i can think of right now??? im sorry this is a lot, i promise the game isnt actually that difficult once you get used to it!!! its just a matter of getting used to the mechanics. lmk if u ever need any help at all :D
