the two met by chance when Charlotte was exploring the area while Maurice was trying to get groceries

instantly charmed with one another, they kept in touch and she made it a point to always come back to see him every chance she could

after about 5 years of this she proposed to him and the two were married the next day

Background: Xisuma lives in a faraway land famous for the various buildings that defies possibility and his hermits that build them. While it is true that he is one of them, Xisuma is not only a music composer but also an admin/steward figure of the place, ensuring both the stability and functioning logistics of the land between the various hermits. Xisuma however, has a secret: for some reason he has a connection with the Void hence, his full name Xisumavoid. Although people do not bring up his full name often, Xisuma always feels the strange call and stares at the vast sky of the Overworld or the endless depth of the End. While there was no exchange of words, he always felt something or someone calling for him, pulling, inching forward from the dark depths but he could never reply or understand, until one day he was overseeing the land from a vantage point and saw some kind of light on the horizon engulfing the world. The land was disappearing. Xisuma panicked for a moment, but then he heard a call: “My chosen. To stop this advent embrace me. I shall give you the power to save the land. Look upon me.” Xisuma looked around but saw no one, until he looked up and saw IT. His two eyes reflected his being into two and cast the now divided Xisuma in two beings in another land. Separated, the two heard again the voice: “Upon you i now bestow my powers and a prophecy:”

Swift as the wind the ground rumbles

With blazing storms forward they dash

Cold hearts engraved in ash

“When the prophecy is resolved, come find me. And you will return to your land untainted.” The two Xisuma were separated, one in the Overworld, the other in the End but they both knew what had to be done and no one would stand in their way.

‘Greatest Show on Turf’ – Warbird Night Engine Run at Geneseo

By Tom Pawlesh The National Warplane Museum (NWM) held its annual “Greatest Show on Turf” airshow on July 13 and 14, 2024 in Geneseo, New York. Although this show has a small-town feel, there are always a large number of warbirds in attendance. This is an “open” airshow, meaning the spectators can walk along the flight line see the aircraft up close, and talk with the pilots. With today’s security concerns, the intimacy of this airshow is a breath of fresh air from a bygone era.

Rob Holland in ihs Extra 300, Thom Richard in his TP-40N American Dream, and Lou Horschel in his FG-1D Corsair flying formation for Tom Pawlesh and other aviation photographers in a air to air photoshoot organized by Mike Killian.

With the growing popularity of night engine-run photography sessions, the NWM joined the growing number of airshows that offer this type of event. Aerospace Photojournalist Mike Killian was in charge of the event while pilot/photographer Tom Pawlesh provided the lighting. Not to be outdone by any airshow, the NWM fielded an impressive ten aircraft for the evening. First up was Skipper Hyle in his Stearman followed by the Fokker Dr.I and Dr.VII run by J. B. Aldred and Ruben Alconero, respectively. The NWM’s C-47 Whiskey 7 and the Tunison Foundation’s Placid Lassie, both World War II veterans, were next followed by Thom Richard’s TP-40N American Dream and Scott Yoak’s P-51D Quick Silver. Lou Horschel did a solo run-up in the Corsair and folded/unfolded the wings twice for the photographers. The evening finished with the T-6s of Steve & Juliet Lindrooth and David Steele.

It was a memorable evening that left photographers very happy. We can’t thank the pilots and ground crew enough. It is because of them that this event was such a success. The National Warplane Museum is dedicated to the preservation and display of significant historical and military aircraft and artifacts for the benefit and education of the public. Snow Day: Din Djarin & Grogu

A/N: Set between S1 and S2, as in before they crash on the ice planet. Wobbles back and forth between Din and Grogu's POV. Un-beta'd. Barely edited.

Warnings: Slightest hint of angst, because i can't help myself but 99.99% soft fluffy fluff. Just our clan of two playing in the snow.

Din wakes to the gabble of his charge, blunt claws tapping against the transparisteel windows. “It’s snow,” says Din, “You’ve never seen snow?” Those dark eyes rake over his visor and then flick away, ears and shoulders slump. “Not every world has snow,” says Din, “How about we go take a look?”

Grogu squirms at the feeling of socks and bantha hide booties over his feet. It’s very cold, Adika, and you are so much smaller than me. Grogu can’t always understand the sounds that the Mandalorian makes, but he never doubts what he feels from Din, never doubts Din’s care, and so only wiggles a little bit when Din works his feet into the booties. Grogu descends the ramp as he usually does, claws tapping against Din’s greaves, only this time his claws are blunted by mittens, and for a moment he is afraid and then he sees the wide expanse of shimmering white, ears pricking up, but there is nothing to hear except for his own heart, the soft crumping sound of his own steps, sensation of snow compacting beneath his feet, like walking through wet sand but not. It’s so quiet.

He’s not used to quiet anymore, accustomed to ship sounds, engine noise rattle and burble of much repaired life support and coolant systems. Peers up at Din, (has never seen Din’s face but the name echoed in his head the first time he laid eyes on the tall armored man, a sound like a bell and warmth like sun on his skin, like the smiles and laughs of long gone friends), watches as he holds the scope to his visor and scans. Grogu sees nothing but low dark clouds and distant trees laden with snow. Takes a few steps to feel the strange compression of it under his feet.

“It’s okay, Kiddo, there’s no large life forms in range. You can play. Go on.” The little one looks up at him, puzzled, and Din hunkers in the snow next to him.

“You can draw in it, see?” He extends a gloved finger and draws a flattened oval with two dots for eyes and elongate triangular ears. “That’s you.”

The child squeals and yanks a mitten off with his teeth, draws a flattened oval crossed with a t-shape. “That’s me! That looks just like me, ad’ika!”

“Eek?”

“Ad’ika means little one.” Din shakes his head, “I don’t know your name, so this will have to do for now.”

“Eek! Ih Eek patu!” Grogu leans into the warm weight of Din’s gloved hand ruffling the sparse fuzz on the top of his head.

“Check this out,” says Din, and rakes snow together with his fingers, squeezes it in his palms, opens his hands to reveal an irregular white sphere, tosses the snowball gently and it splats against the rough weave of the child’s robe and for a moment he is afraid but then the child laughs big and bright all crinkled eyes and sharp carnivore teeth, scraping up handfuls of snow and flinging them at Din, glittering arcs falling short. Ad’ika peers down at his empty, claws and frowns.

“Watch me,” he says, “Like this, see?” Din reaches and fills his hands with snow, feels impact against his helmet and half his visor blurred with melting slush, high reedy laughter overdriving his pickups. “You got me! Well done, Ad’ika!”

The ache of the cold in his knees makes him stand, dusting the snow from his armor, while his charge points at the sky and gabbles, bends and scoops him into his arms. “It’s snowing!” Fluffy white flakes drift down in slow, silent spirals. The baby pats his mittened hands together, trying to catch the drifting flakes and opening his hands beads of water on his palms.

“I lived in a city before the Mandalorians found me, on a world called Aq Vetina. We didn’t get much snow, not where we were. We’d get maybe one good snow storm each winter. And everyone would be out in the streets playing in the snow. Children and grown ups alike. Because we knew it wouldn’t stay more than a day or so. Hey! Tilt your head back and open your mouth!”

“Ah?”

“You can catch snowflakes on your tongue!” He remembers the feeling up snow melting on his tongue, landing on his eyelids, dusting his cheeks. Grogu delights in the feeling of snowflakes melting on his upturned face, but his joy is threaded through with grief and longing from Din. I understand, he says in his mind, knowing that his mouth can’t yet shape the sounds in basic, so he grabs Din’s thumb, feels Din’s hand fold around his. “Let’s go inside. I’ll heat up some soup.”

My therapist recommended the Divergent Conversations podcast to me, where two neurodivergent therapists discuss, well, neurodivergence. She specifically recommended this episode on alexithymia.

I'd already known about alexithymia — which broadly is difficulty identifying & describing emotions — but there's a lot more to it than I'd realized! So I thought I'd jot down the most interesting bits of this episode's conversation:

First off, I learned I've been pronouncing alexithymia wrong lol; it's uh-lex-ih-THIGH-me-uh.

1 in 10 people have alexithymia! It's not just an autism thing! But at least 50% of autistics have it; and somewhere between 20-45% of ADHDers do

Some of the traits people associate with autism are actually alexithymia things, including difficulty with recognizing emotions on faces or voices and difficulties with empathy. — In studies, autistics who don't have alexithymia do as well at those things as allistics in the study do.

Alexithymia makes emotional regulation hard because you don't notice the subtle shifts / increases in your emotions until suddenly you're exploding. E.g. on an "emotions scale" you don't notice you're not at a 1 anymore till you're "suddenly" at a 10

This is why a lot of us will, in the moment, not process that something's upset us, and only later realize "oh hey, that wasn't okay" — which NTs/people without alexithymia may interpret as us having "lied" / hidden our true feelings in the moment, when that isn't the case!

Because we struggle with in-the-moment fleeting emotions, a lot of us compensate by getting good at reflective emotions — which brings our emotions into our prefrontal cortex and requires time. We'll analyze every angle of a conversation after the fact, and only then conclude what we should feel / start to feel the emotions. — This can cause conflict in relationships because we'll be unable to access our emotions in the middle of an emotionally charged moment/conversation, and therefore not respond "appropriately" / seem cold :/

Stimming is also a way we help connect our minds, emotions, and bodies when it's a struggle

But basically, having alexithymia, feeling like you have to analyze every situation from every angle after the fact, takes a lot of cognitive energy; it's exhausting.

Finally, below the readmore, I'll paste an anecdote the guest shared that describes how neurotypicals seem to "feel" their way through conversations and thus come to a kind of shallow conclusion about it, versus how people with alexithymia analyze it from every angle, which takes way longer but leaves you open to considering others' perspectives (in my view at least).

THOMAS HENLEY: ...If you study neurotypicals...I think there's a lot of situations where we give ourselves a hard time for not understanding certain things. Like, neurotypicals tend to talk a lot about things like 'read the room,' and 'understand the hidden meaning,' and understand things just from the flow of the conversation. 

But from my experience, particularly in the workplace, or within friend groups, a lot of people that you talk to individually after those big sort of group conversations, they have completely different ideas of what's gone on. And I felt like, you know, we do have that drive to try and find that certainty out, specifically around emotions and social things, which are inherently so uncertain and emotional. It can be kind of hard for us. And it's kind of one of those things that I think a lot of neurotypicals, they go with what they feel from the situation. And then, that's 'the truth.' But compare and contrast each person in a certain group conversation, it's completely different.

It's just that we like to know exactly what happened, and exactly what people are wanting, and exactly what they're trying to say.

Aaan we're back with ep 4. John heavy ep 4. This will be a lot,but I actually dont want to focus on John with it. I will reference to him because he's literally going through an episode long ptsd attack and there's a lot to discuss with that, but there are so many other interesting facets about this episode. We also get kyle here.

But sure let's discuss John 1st tho. So his response to dealing with his ptsd flashbacks is distracting it with violence. Now i do want to make something clear here. I dont think necessarily that chanelling his very complicated emotions into action is bad per se here, if this was productive tho. But with John, unlike several othera ih this episode like Mary and Carlos, he isn't productive about it. For Mary we see that she is chanelling her own complicated emotions into training and getting John to partake, but it only slightly works. Same with Carlos, they focus their own issues into their hunting. John however does not. He tries to let it out through hunting, but really qhat works is just punching something as seen in the bathroom. Its not about chanelling it into something, but just violence qhich is why his hands no longer shake after punching the dispenser even tho all that action is is destructive. He also is very much either unaware of or actively ignoring his limits, because he's given several outs before getting himself in the group session and severely triggered. Mary alone gives him at least 2 or 3 outs. But she, like everyone, assumes he can make his own choices and can handle himself so when he saya he's good, then they trust it. Which isnt an issue, they are right to trust him on his own limits. But he very much isnt listening to them.

Now lets talk Carlos a bit, because we have some fun stuff for him too. 1stly we find out he was navy medic. That alone tells me some stuff and also very much reminds me of Dean in Pac-Man Fever. But it also firmly speaks back.to what we've been seeing from Carlos the past 3 episodes. Ive been mentioning that theue role in ep 1-3 was more support, was thw one in the background, doing the job, efficiently, not in the foreground as a soldier, but nonetheless vital. The fact thay they were medic makes perfect sense in this context, because as medic the goal was to ensure the frontline fighters were able and ready to jump back in and thay was what Carlos has been doing the past few episode. Then we have the story during group therapy that slots into place the ways he's been supporting everyone. Because while John is deing with severe survivors guilt and an exacerbated sense of responsibility which imo is why its much easier for him to have a black and white view of the situation, Carlos could've had the same issue, especially as a medic where, unlike John's self imposed responsibility, ut was literally their job to keep people alive and certainly couldn't through their time serving, not everyone. And even then, Carlos' takeaway wasn't to demonize the other side who was responsible for the people Carlos was in charge of saving ending up under their care, but rather saw the enemy and understood clearly that they too likely got pulled into this war against their wishes for some, lost people and experience the horror.and loss that the war brought same as Carlos. That speaks to a high level of empathy, something we've already seen Carlos display the first 3 episode but it makes it even clearer here that its a trait they've had foe a long long time and its one thats been honed and tested.

Then we have Mary and Lata, both of whom are dealing with the loss of Maggie and what effects this had on them. So if for John and Carlos we have the magnitude of war combined with personal loss, for Mary and Lata we have the very personal loss of Maggie reflected through the magnitude of hunting life. Which is why I think the episode has Carols and John confrunting (for better or worse) their loss in a group setting while Mary and Lata are in a one on ine scenario either just by themselves or talking to a singular person (Kyle). And why their confruntation of the loss happens in a quieter way via going to Maggies room and acknowledging that loss properly and thus reconnecting with who Maggie was, to them, and remembering her and understanding her which in turn leads to them understaning themselves a bit.

A quick line about Millie here. I think "her words are cheap, actions speak louder" attitude isnt necessarily a problem per se, the issue is that that saying refers to words are cheap if your actions dont match them, not that you shouldn't talk about things. And thats where the issue lands, because Millies actions have actually been kinda counter to her words and not in a good way the last few episode because she's said things that were a problem and acted correctly and did things that were a problem and said the correct thing, but til now its very rarely been actions matching her words. This ep is actually where we start seeing the shift into a Millie that us more aligned in her meanings. Having her verbally be there for John and the physically as well at the end of the episode. It's not perfect, both her actions ans words are both flawed this episode in various moments, but they are aligned.

And finally Mars Neto and the fucking sheer amount of Michael parallels/references in this episode. It drives me insane! Its the mention of John's destiny, the fact that Neto uses a spear, thay he wants John to be his own personal human weapon, the fact that Mars Neto isnt even the God of War himself, but rather in Lata's words, based on the Roman God of War, this emulating Mars the way Michael tried to emulate Chuck while ruling Heaven. I just cannot ignore the Michael of it all. And I also cant ignore that the way he dies is heavily reminiscent of how Dean, under the Mark of Cain, another older brother who echoed Michael and who's outright referenced by Neto when speaking of the centuries of blood and violence in John"s blood, killed Abaddon. The violence of it is echoed here and the issue with that violence ia too. Because while killing Neto is a good thing, like killing Abaddon was, the ultimate take from the battle is that John did not do the right thing because of the rage, juat like killing Abaddon spoke of the Marks influence over Dean.

And finally, we have the conclusion, of Mary and Lata starting to heal from their loss in a trubute to Maggie herself, Carlos going to therapy and John, isolating himself with only Millie there to comfort him, but even that is moreso because Millie goes out to search foe him, and not because he seeks out help.

This is a very rough episode to watch for me, for a miryad of reasons, but thats also why it's onw of my favorites too.
