Rapid fire Fairy Tail rewatch thoughts. May or May not expand upon each point later on.

The female cast is so good idc what anyone says obviously the fanservice is awful BUT I will say, in the earlier arcs, it actually felt decently balanced because of Gray's whole stripping shtick + Natsu's cunty vest wasn't particularly modest either LOL.

Erza is such a wonderful character. I've seen comments that she goes downhill like 100yq onwards but. Um. 100yq characterisation.... that's a whole post of its own.

I never expected to like Lucy so much. idc that it takes her like 200 episodes to win a fight solo because when she FINALLY DOES IT WAS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE SERIES BY FAR. characters who's defining traits r kindness and compassion <33

Interesting how Lucy is the traditional shounen protag (underdog, skills develop overtime) because the rest of team Natsu sans Wendy were all like ... already kinda OP established mages even at the beginning.

I know there are debates ab who really is the protag and imo the narrative skews towards Natsu more BUT. it's bizarre how unexplored he is for a main character. Like yes he is my favourite character other than Lucy but his inner psyche is barely explored it's so weird. He doesn't really have a character arc either??? I'll expand on this more once I finish post tartaros (lolll not looking forward to that) and once again it seems like he's completely regressed from what I've seen of 100yq.

I don't agree with comments that Natsu can't be traditionally romantic. Like, I definitely don't think he would ever have the natural inclination to be that way as a part of his character on its own. Just in general there's something beautiful about the way Fairy Tail handles it's numerous platonic and romantic relationships. Nothing feels secondary yk. Everything is given its due time (except maybe NALU goddammit).

I LOVE THAT FEMALE CHARACTERS HAVE DEEP COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS IRRELEVANT TO THE MALE CAST. Lucy and Levy, Lucy and Yukino, whatever combination between Erza Lucy Wendy, Lucy Flare, Wendy Shelia, Wendy Carla etc

Even when the relationship involves a man in some kind of way like eg Lucy Cana or Erza Kagura it's still not like... in a bad way. The friendship itself is still there, it's just that the inciting incident tends to involve a dude.

Speaking of Lucy having so many deep female friendships is a big reason why I like Nalu so much lol. Like I literally do not care ab ships in media but fairy tail.... just has that something...

Love how often everyone changes outfits.

This show desperately needed a mini arc somewhere with just Natsu Lucy Happy going on a low stake job, where Natsu actually opens up ab his emotions and his relationship with Igneel.

Lucy's relationship with her dad was objectively so well written. I skipped starry skies arc sorry the pacing was destroying me so I can't speak on that. But everything else was just BEAUTIFUL.

The fact that she returns to him just to tell at him. The fact that he comes to her with money problems and she STILL stands her ground. The fact that it's HIM who has to better himself and earn HER forgiveness.

Even after it seems like they're on ok terms, Lucy mentions in tenrou that they don't keep in contact, which is soo... realistic...

and then his death... Shout-out to Natsu who actually is emotionally quite mature (as the author himself seems to have forgotten) and dealt with it wonderfully. He gave Lucy her space, he let her vent, he stopped Happy from interfering too much. + Lucy being conflicted ab it and clearly grieving what could have been instead of what was. sighhh. .

idc ab no deaths but I do wish they didn't do fake out deaths as often. Because when actual loss sticks, it's done super well imo. Ultear, Aquarius, I haven't hit this part yet but Igneel... (yes I'm ignoring 100yq)

HAPPY IS SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER IDC. His edolas character arc was incredible, his relationship with Lucy is just as (if not more) fleshed out as his one with Natsu and that's part of what makes them such a great trio.

Lips second spiral was even harder than the first one to see. Him crashing at Helene's apartment, and she still doesn't seem to grasp that she essentially groomed him, and he's just so devastated still. Fuck.

That ending montage was truly a piece of cinema I tell you. It was beautiful.

I probably have more to say I don't remember but I really liked s7, not on the priority of a constant rewatch, but it was really good...and truly served as the finale it was meant to be. EXCEPT FOR GALLAVICH, holy fuck that would've pained the whole audience.

reason: Anxiety cause look at him. I know it's cause hes a coke addict, but those jitters and anxious stimming and constant sense of danger cant just be from the coke- he's just like that, all the time. Depression for similar-ish reasons, he's literally never content with his situation and almost definitely started seeking out drugs as a way to give him temporary joy or to make the numbness feel purposeful/in his control. Again, substance abuse disorder is basically canon- never explicitly stated but its HEAVILY implied that he's addicted to the drugs and alcohol he takes.

The psychosis isn't AS implied in canon, but its a pretty easy headcanon to come to when theres scenes of him manically talking to himself, talking himself through conversations, believing he's both above the law and that everyone is out to get him, etc. His canon paranoia could easily be interpreted as specifically psychotic/delusional paranoia (I also just personally kinda like the idea that he hallucinates sensations or voices? for no particular reason, I can just imagine it)

the BPD is cause he literally fits all the symptoms. Abandonment issues (severe ones- he hates his dad but is so fucking terrified of losing him or being hated back), impulsivity (cmon.), drastic mood swings (again- cmon.), none of his relationships are stable (even the one with his drug dealer-), complete lack of trust (other than... his drug dealer?), severe anger problems, even some vaguely suicidal behaviours and a SHIT TONNE of self-destructive behaviours.

He also definitely has something else going drastically wrong with his mental health (hes constantly seeking validation, is super erratic, has... just so much trauma, has violent outbursts, strange ideas of his own skills and how the world works, repetition of strange phrases (eg; "I'm a proactive type of person"), etc etc etc), but I don't know what it is, but the boy has so much illness in his brain- someone force him into therapy, I beg- or at least force him to actually medicate himself in a way that isn't just another avenue of self-destruction

So I started nine sols! I have thoughts!

Minimal spoilers I think, since I only got past the first sol, but I’ll put my thoughts under the cut anyway

Ok first of all, the COMBAT!!! I love the combat!!! It’s hard for sure, and my skill issue is crazy, but that’s part of the fun. I love games that take work and practice to figure out. Kinda like hollow knight and rain world! Very difficult games where you will die a lot, but it’s fun enough to keep going. Parrying makes my heart happy. It’s about timings!! I love timings!!! There’s a lot of mechanics to figure out, but honestly that doesn’t bother me. I can learn. Just… generally, good shit.

The story is really, really interesting so far. I like Yi’s character. He’s very serious and edgy, but honestly I don’t mind that trope lol. Shuanshuan is my son now, I’ve adopted him. Move over Yi. But for real though, I also like how Yi’s big brother energy carries over to Shuanshuan. I bet my ass he sees Heng in Shuanshuan.

The human harvesting sure is… something. I was not expecting it at all. I figured getting chosen wasn’t a good thing, but seeing the villagers’ heads get ripped off was NOT at all what I expected. Like, wow! I don’t like this!

I love the first sol. I forgot his name, rip, but he’s so cute. He is very weird about humans, but idc I love him. Also his statues are so, so real. I want to give him a hug, he seems like he gives great hugs.

That being said, I figure the other sols are going to get more hostile from here. I’m like 99.999% sure Yi was once the tenth sol (I’m out here reading all the readables, I know there were once ten) so I’m curious to see how all of them react to his actions.

The game is also just so PRETTY. The art is amazing in its simplicity, and the music is incredible. I’m in love. So far this game is a 10/10 for me, and I have high hopes for the next several areas.
