So I just started watching Danganronpa heartless deceit and the beef between Tomoya and Yumeo is wild

Kaoru's deal is that he's normal. He's SO normal. Everyone else is like "oooo I'm a vampire I'm doing 6d commercial domination chess I'm a child soldier" (and I love them for it) and Kaoru's problems are that he is grieving the loss of his mother and he fears he'll similarly lose his sister to an arranged marriage she'll be unhappy at and HE is gonna eventually lose his freedom to a life HE is going to be unhappy at, so he reacts be projecting a façade of not caring about anything and Dissociating and Crying About It, like Normal People Do.

But the thing is. Characters like Tomoya and Midori (both of which I like) have normalcy as a starting point, so it is used for comedy. Kaoru has Being Aggressively Normal as, like, the end result of his characterization. So the effect he has from Year 2 is that he's like, a walking zone of normalcy. Everyone who gets prolonged exposure to Kaoru remembers how to like, "process emotions" and "have a moral compass" when around him. You can be at the most ridiculous high-stakes Idol Mafia Spy Bullshit Story that Kaoru's very presence will force at least one other character to go "oh this is kinda messed up I should like, go to therapy and make amends with those I hurt today." He. Is so. Normal. And it's single-handedly keeping ES from falling apart.

Tied btween Ibara and HiMERU tbh because HiMERU is doing something deeply insane and caused all of his own problems and made several other people's problems worse in the process. However, Ibara is a teen business major and that alone signifies he has issues.

Wataru instills a fear in me that the other characters do not. Yes, Mayoi be in the vents and stuff but like, hell stay there. when i go to piss at 4am in the morning and its pitch dark and i see something go by in the corner of my eye its wataru.

Honestly my choice was based entirely on the fact that I can put a name (or multiple) to everyone else's problems but when I think about Tsumugi all I can do is just hold him up and go "there's something wrong with him"

look i think himeru will win but considering how much mamas completely unwillingness to cope with anything ever has impacted both double face and just about every other story shes in i like had to. like at least himeru is capable of having friends without having a complete meltdown over the idea

The other characters have their quirks, but Tsumugi clears the "says things that have made me audibly go 'what the fuck?'" bar. For everyone else, their freakiness might as well be Tuesday, you know?

Misc. thoughts because it looked weird if i didn't indent this section

as for responses i didn't agree with, this is a hard question to answer because i don't know enough about a third of the cast to strongly disagree. not to mention, i personally think that even if i knew it would be extremely rude of me to share and pick apart people's responses in front of a sizeable audience, so i will not. the last thing i want is for people to feel judged and ostracized over some silly enstars poll, and i personally do not enjoy how hostile this fanbase is to casual fans

like for example, i personally think chiaki is the weirdest ryuseitai member, but many people would disagree on that, right? and it's really not that big of a deal, because i understand why/how people come to that conclusion. some of these questions are really subjective, and are ultimately up to interpretation. just because i understand the text differently doesn't mean that another fan's opinion is inherently wrong. i think that's partially the fun of enstars in that there really is no explicit answer to some things, and it's up to the reader to draw their own conclusions

it hasn't come up often enough to address it, but i only feel bothered by people's responses when they overlook writer's biases and how that bleeds into the writing of some characters, like the amagis and adonis, somewhat mayoi, etc.

anyway, my sincere apologies if this feels like i'm personally lecturing you 🙇 i understand your interest in wanting to know this, but i do not want people to feel bad over mostly subjective opinions. on top of my own understanding of the text versus theirs, yknow?

i guess i could address the polls? for the normal unit polls i personally think hiiro, shinobu, hinata, and nazuna should have won their respective polls. i don't think niki should have won either but i'm not sure who should take his place 🤔. as for the least normal polls i think tatsumi should have won. but outside of these opinions, i do not wish to address actual written responses

love and eros may have actually been the best jdrama ever

my lovelorn for lost underapreciated japanese media may stick with me til the end of time I'm afraid. It's how unknown it is that really makes me love it even more. I actually don't know how I feel about the best art getting so little attention and being lost to time. On one hand I like it but then again I wish the people involved would have been able to get recognition. But the again it's possible the Japanese purposely didn't want their precious gems to be given to the west because it would have been changed and altered to fit a wider audience and then it would no longer be art. It would just be a product for mass consumption. I kind of want to write a whole series of my favorite J ent pieces. It's so interesting that Japan actually went out of their way many times to make sure their works wouldn't be spread to those who don't appreciate it. Anime was...as hayao miyazaki would say A MISTAKE. It's the only piece of Japanese media that became heavily focused on reaching a global audience and making a ton of money from it. It's their K-pop. Though with Anime it's just cartoon pictures being objectified and commodified but with K-pop it's people. Still both had a great effect on the economy and a terrible influence on the culture as a whole. The otaku's in Japan and the fan culture in Korea both swirled out of control and ended up having a hand in lowering the birth rate. So art truly is a powerful thing.

This work was one I actually stumbled on when I was on a j ent binge, this and a few other japanese 90s dramas really fascinated me. This one was intriguing and memorable because it was the first time I was aware that whatever Korea had continued with using idols in drama's to boost the rating Japan had most defintely started.

Nagase Tomoya was a hearthrob no doubt and it is also hard to even find someone comparable to him in the current era. In japan being an idol is just a stepping stone and everyone knows this. There aren't really leaders like in kpop. In fact it's usually the visuals that are just in charge or speak for the group. They are the front men or women and it's normal for them to be the face and do interviews alone in the group's stead. No one is ever super emotional when these visuals become actors nor is there an uproar that they are betraying the group. It's natural and they usually are asked to get into different projects because this will eventually get the group more attention in the end. Japanese groups in some cases have EXTREME longevity. Some groups lasting decades. It isn't always the case but the most popular groups it's moreso a question of dang when are they going to disband. This is because the attitude towards idols in japan is different. There are some cases where idols from fanservice heavy groups do get in trouble from dating but its' important to know in Japan it's more of a hierarchy of groups because idol culture has been around for so long. There are some groups that are more dependent on heavy fanservice to survive and there theme is catering to there fans whereas some groups are more..free. It's clear to see these differences when you see some groups that are very free and others that are very not. In korea although I see that all groups are treated like how fanservice heavy groups are in japan. No matter what age it is weird and not acceptable for them to act in romantic drama's or date. The companies and contracts pretty much all around reflect the mindset of the public towards idols. Where in recent years traditional idol culture in japan is kind of slowly dying and because of that celebs dating is seen moreso how american celebs dating. In korea strangely enough it's like things are regressing. The fanservice is becoming even more intense even though kpop is gaining global fame. More money is being made but it's being made by going super jhorror virtual boyfriend/girlfriend parasocial paralysis demon. It's quite concerning. It could be that in Japan they stopped focusing on real people who eventually would date or get married and leave idol life behind to focus on more vulnerable animated or fictional characters who really couldn't speak or fight back.

I still find it interesting to look at the cultural remains of Japan's idol industry.

I don't even want to get into the tradgedy of Johhnny's boys and what happens when young children are commodified off their looks and sex appeal from a super young age because..it speaks for itself. It was terrible what happened and I do feel that overall it's definitely what is happening in kpop but because of the current hype and popularity honestly nobody cares. Similar to how nobody cared about what was happening in america with the many disney stars who would years later open up about how the trauma they experienced being a childstar would later cause them to become drug addicts or commit self harm. People may feel sorry for them now but the truth is at the time when it was happening nobody cared and that is what made them feel so alone. It doesn't help to pity them after the fact when they have healed and gone to therapy.

Although I think it was rather unfortunate what many of child stars go through I do think the art they leave behind should be treasured even more so because of it. Tomoya was a fabulous actor and I see in him many of the current idols of today that are treasured.

I believe he was extremely lucky given that he was able to stay in a band that spanned decades and have a very successful acting career. When I watched this show not only was I interested in the plot but I also was wondering why were so many idols barred from also having similar opportunities. Some like him were able to act in various projects playing different characters but others were stuck in a box because their fans weren't interested in seeing them any differently. I believe he was such a compelling performer that it allowed him to be accepted by the public as an actor.

but I can't lie Johnny kitigawa's connectiong probably helped as well..also his face plus the fact that he aged well probably helped. Many idols get copius amounts of plastic surgery that does not age well at all

but there are still other decent looking idols that never kept up with the changing tides of the ent industry. On an old translated forum some people were arguing why he wasn't as famous as Takuya Kimura

but I think it's because the japanese love androgyny like over everything Tomoya was just a tad bit too masculine.

In this show though and others like it he starred in he was a silent brooding type so it worked. I don't want to spoil it and this isn't a review basically it's a comparasion of different types of love. Which is ..kind of genius. His character is in a eros or romantic type of love with a woman engaged to his brother. Who has a much more friendly type of love with her. It's probably a metaphor for something but..hmmh oh and it has the iconic Hosho mai

her role isn't that big she is toted as mostly just the tagalong girlfriend but really as the show progresses you start to like her more than the main love interest.

anywayz its a good show very deep if you watch it closely.

PROLOGUE

"And you're sure about this?" 

"Of course, sir."

"Alright, then as of tomorrow, you, Megumi Yanagisa, will be a member of the End-Class."

"Thank you, Principal Asano."

I get up from my seat and walk out of the principal's office. I quietly shut the door behind me. So it's finally settled! It only took an hour to convince Mr. Asano, but with his hatred for the End-Class, I thought he would never agree to me joining. I mean, me, Megumi Yanagisa, the top female student at Kunugigaoka and second overall - after Gakushu Asano, the principal's son and model student, of course. I wonder how Gakushu is going to feel about this... oh well, I can't wait to get away from those main building assholes that are the A, B, C, and D-Classes! And with the E-Class, I'll finally be able to take down-

"What the hell was that, Megumi?!" Someone yells from behind me. It's Asano. He must have been spying on my conversation with his dad.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Asano will refer to Gakushu (little guy), and Mr/Principal Asano will refer to Gakuho (big guy).] 

"A normal conversation. Ever heard of one?" I reply, grinning.

Asano ignored my question and instead asked his own, "Why did you ask to transfer to the E-Class?"

"Hey, don't pin all the blame on me!" I exclaim, acting shocked. "Besides, your dad told me not to spill!"

Asano gives me a doubtful look. "I seriously doubt that my dad would ever use the word 'spill' in that context."

"Alright, I didn't say it word for word, but you get the message!"

Asano chuckles lightly.

"Now, if you don't mind, I need to go get ready for the ceremony," I say.

Asano grabs my wrist and pulls me towards him. "You didn't answer my question."

I pull away from his grasp, and exclaim, "Fine, you win! I'm transferring because I'm tired of these main building assholes!"

He scoffs at this. Whatever, he can kiss my ass. I really do have a ceremony to get to. I begin to walk away from him, but he grabs my wrist again and pins me onto a locker. His purple eyes send a shiver down my spine.

"If you wish to take me down, my little canary," Asano begins in a hushed voice. He leans down towards me and whispers into my ear, "You should know that if you fail, I will make you my servant." He then plants a soft kiss onto my neck.

I can't help but turn red as Asano turns to walk away from me. Before he leaves, he smiles and adds, "Adieu, mon amour." [FRENCH FOR: "Farewell, my love."]

Ah, yes, the Matriculation Ceremony. The time of the school year in which the entire student body and faculty of Kunugigaoka Junior High School crowd together in the gymnasium to celebrate the graduating class and those selected into the A-Class. The classes are selected in ascending order, with the unfortunate E-Class students being scrutinized to the model students of the A-Class being cheered for. It was almost always the exact same people in each class every year; however, I'm sure that my transfer will leave everyone shaken up! I mean, it's about time that something interesting happened!

The gymnasium is decorated with elegant banners displaying the top 20 students for the end-of-the-school-year finals draping over around a hundred of folded chairs. This year, thank goodness, Mr. Asano decided to separate the classes individually. Once it was my class's scheduled time for the ceremony, the students that scored below the top 20 entered and took their seats. A few minutes after this, the top 20 entered, the 20th student entering first.

I don't personally know the 20th and 19th students, but the 18th, unfortunately, is engraved into my memory. As he strode past Asano and I, he smirked and, rather daringly, bowed to us. Be then straightened up and entered the gymnasium to the call of his ironic name - Karma Akabane.

The next ten or so students weren't very noteworthy to me, but the top 6 students are filled with my affiliates, who are called the "Big Six", which includes myself.

Seated 6th overall is Tomoya Seo, who excels in English. He is the student assembly chairman but has a face that just makes you want to punch him. He, like the others, has a superiority complex. His girlfriend, Kaho Tsuchiya of the C-Class, and him are constantly breaking up and getting back together - a very in-character move. Tomoya and I are more frenemies than friends and typically find reasons to argue with one another. In short, he's a huge dick!

Seated 5th overall is Natsuhiko Koyama, who excels in science. He is the President of the Biology Club and consistently finds a way to say "scientifically speaking". He used to be more soft-spoken and insecure but, after being befriended by Asano, became an egotistical asshole. Despite his shitty personality, I can tell that there's still a really insecure boy in there, so I try not to be rude to him.

Seated 4th overall is Ren Sakakibara, who excels in Japanese. He is the student council secretary and is a social butterfly. He's revered by most of the boys at Kunugigaoka for being a flirt, but they really don't have much to fear because he's, well, a bit more interested in them than their girlfriends. If you don't catch my drift, he's gay. I mean like writes-poems-with-secret-homosexual-messages kind of gay! Besides Asano, Ren's probably my closest guy friend at Kunugigaoka; he comes over almost every weekend to watch Bridgerton with me! Anyways, I'm getting distracted!

Seated 3rd overall is Teppei Araki, who excels in social studies. He is the President of the Broadcasting Club, which is very apparent whenever some stupid rumor takes the school by storm. He always reports the rumors for some reason, and Asano and my romance has been the center of them for the last month! His superiority complex is nowhere near as apparent as Tomoya's or Natsuhiko's, but it most definitely exists!

Seated 2nd overall is myself, Megumi Yanagisa, and I excel specifically in English and social studies. I am the student body advisor, or Vice President, which basically means I have to act like I care about everyone's complaints and then try to compromise with Asano. Yay for customer service! I'm also the President of the Drama Club. The title that I take the most pride in is probably "Queen of Kunugigaoka", and the title in least proud of would have to be Gakushu Asano's girlfriend. Just kidding! Damn it, I got distracted again!

Seated 1st overall, unsurprisingly, is Gakushu Asano, and he excels in literally everything, especially mathematics! Actually, now that I think about it, he's not perfect at Ethics; go figure! He is the President of the student body. Must be taking after his dad. There's tons of rumors surrounding Asano, but everyone, including myself, can agree that he pulls the stings around here. If he's the puppet master of Kunugigaoka, then I am the femme fatale. Couple goals, anyone?

Once we all got seated, Asano and I went up to give our speeches. Asano's is much better than mine as it was written months in advance, and mine was crammed yesterday night at 4am. 

After that, everyone begins to stand up and walk around, socializing with one another. I walk over to Ren. He spots me and waves.

"Nice speech," he says. I can't tell whether he's being sarcastic or not.

"I totally pulled it out of my ass," I whisper to him. We laugh for a few moments then he whispers back "Speaking of pulling stuff out of someone's ass, did you hear about the gym teacher?"

"What?!" I gasp, laughing. "That's really random, Ren!"

"No, really! Apparently, her and Mr. Ono hooked up, and now she's pregnant!" After letting that gossip soak in, Ren adds, "Principal Asano's pissed!"

We exchange gossip for who knows how long but are interrupted eventually by Principal Asano's voice on a speaker next to us. Everyone rushes to their seats in response.

"Greetings, Class 2, to the 2021-22 school-year Matriculation Ceremony," Principal Asano says. He continues after some applause. "I would like to commemorate the top 20 students from the last school year and encourage the rest of you to try your best to achieve a spot in the top 20 this school year."

After what seemed like forever, he finally got to announcing this year's E-Class students. Everyone shifted in their seats nervously, except for Karma, of course. I'm honestly surprised that he even showed up today. "I will be announcing the Class-3E students in alphabetical order based on their last names."

"Akabane, Karma." Karma leans back in his chair and flips off his former teacher who sent him to the E-Class. Asano and I exchange glances and chuckle. Karma is the prankster type, and we've hung out before at a festival. We mainly discussed interests and various ways you could kill someone.

"Chiba, Ryunosyke." A boy with messy black hair that covers his eyes yawns. He reminds me of an emo character in a dating simulator Ren and I played once.

"Fuwa, Yuzuki." A girl with a dark purple bob cut seems uninterested and pores over some sort of manga that is promptly snatched out of her hands by a faculty member - much to her annoyance. I like her spirit.

"Hara, Sumire." A stout girl with a motherly presence brushes her pair of reddish-brown bangs out of her face. She doesn't seem too bothered about any of this.

"Hayami, Rinka." A girl with cat-like green eyes sits like a professional, her legs crossed, while brushing her orange hair with her fingers. For some reason, she seems like a tsundere, or maybe I've just played too many dating simulators with Ren.

"Hazama, Kirara." A slender girl slouches over in her seat, reading a book with an ominous cover. Her girly name does not fit her; she has dark, wavy hair and a face that, while beautiful and narrow, wears a very sinister look. I'll definitely try not to mess with her, but joining forces with her could prove useful.

"Isogai, Yuma." A familiar-looking boy with spiky, black hair and a conventionally attractive face and demeanor sighs. Oh, I remember him! He was being chased around by a flock of girls during Valentine's Day! Super useful!

"Kanzaki, Yukiko." A pretty girl with hair that faded from black to dark brown looked down sadly. Poor thing, she must be worried about her parents. She seems nice.

"Kataoka, Meg."  A dashing girl with yellow eyes and brown hair and bangs. Her hair is tied back into a ponytail and she is wearing a serious facial expression. She seems responsible and driven; very useful!

"Kayano, Kaede - who is not present today."

"Kimura, Masayoshi." A green-haired boy with a young appearance shrunk into his seat. Several students giggled saying things like: "Justice!", "Guess you didn't save the day!", and "My knight in shining armor!". Ugh, I hate these privileged assholes. Just leave the kid alone! He seems determined though.

"Kurahashi, Hinano." A cute, petite-framed girl with peridot-green eyes played with her short orange hair. She doesn't appear to have a lot of focus but seems sweet.

"Maehara, Hiroto." A handsome boy fiddles with his orange hair. He winks at a group of girls sitting near me, and they all gasp and fall out of their seats. "Woman-stealing asshole," Tomoya mutters under his breath. I'll have to remember this guy - he's definitely going to prove useful!

"Mimura, Koki." A plain-looking boy with faded orange hair perks up in his seat. After a few seconds, his olive eyes began to look elsewhere. Perhaps he has good eyesight? Useful.

"Muramatsu, Takuya." A boy with dirty blonde hair and small eyes snores quietly. He'll probably be of some use if he can stay awake.

"Nakamura, Rio." A charming girl with blonde hair pops a pink bubblegum while playing on her phone, not giving a care in the world about what has just been announced. Well, she's pretty and actually seems the most like me so far.

"Okajima, Taiga." A boy with a dark buzz cut and sleazy appearance shifts around in his seat. The girls sitting close to him are leaning away from him. I'm guessing he's the class pervert type.

"Okana, Hinata." A girl with a brown pixie cut and magenta eyes stretches in her chair. She must be sporty and possibly flexible? If that's true, then she'll be super useful!

"Okuda, Manami." It took a while to spot her, but eventually everyone points out a small girl with purple braids and a timid expression. I remember Natsuhiko mentioning something about her, but I didn't really pay attention since it was about science.

"Shiota, Nagisa." It also took a while to find this... girl? No, I don't think so; Nagisa is a boy's name. A boy with blue hair tied in a low ponytail is shrunken into his seat in what appeared like a mixture of despair and anxiety. Something about this kid is off. Like there's a glint in his eyes that screams homicidal maniac, or maybe I hang out with some creepy people.

"Sugaya, Sosuke." A thin boy doodling on a notepad looks up, brushes his long, silver hair out of his face, and continues drawing. Oh, he made a poster for one of the Theater Club's productions! It was really good from what I remember!

"Sugino, Tomohito." A small boo comes from a few of the Baseball Club members, and a boy with unkempt blue hair smiles. He seems like your average sporty kid but still seems pretty nice. 

"Takebayashi, Kotaro." An odd boy with neatly-combed hair and foggy glasses sits up straight and brushes his shoulders clean of dust. I remember Takebayashi. The mastermind, as Asano called him once. He's a science prodigy from what I can recall. Quite useful.

"Terasaka, Ryoma." A bulky boy with brown and blonde hair and tan skin scoffs and slouches into his seat. He's the bully type from what I can remember.

"Yada, Toka." A beautiful girl brushes her skirt anxiously. She seems like the big sister type. She's very pretty and physically mature. (Her boobs are big). She has brown hair tied into a ponytail with a red scrunchie.

"Yoshida, Taisei." A boy with dreadlocks and sharp eyes fiddles with his hands expectantly. He seems like the scuffed-up mechanic type.

A collective sigh of relief fills the room but stops once Principal Asano clears his throat.

"And, this year, I announce the first student to request to transfer to the E-Class. Her request was accepted by myself after careful consideration. This student's name is," he sighs. "Megumi Yanagisa."

I lean back in my chair as the gym goes silent. Then, everyone begins to crumble up their pamphlets and hurl them towards me. Asano attempts to block the papers and yells at everyone throwing them. The whole scene is chaotic as hell, and I am relishing in it.

"Everyone is dismissed. I look forward to another excellent school year starting tomorrow," Principal Asano calmly announces. He walks off the stage but motions something to Asano.

Asano nods and grabs my hand. I blush slightly. He leads me out of the gym and threatens the students on our way. He slams the doors shut once we get out.

Rem, Tomoya, Teppei, and Natsuhiko burst out of the gym doors aggressively.

"What the hell?!" Ren yells at me. "You're a part of the freaking E-Class?!" The other three back him up whilst arguing with Asano and I.

"Listen-" I begin, but I'm interrupted by a crowd of my former classmates running after me. Oh shit, I better run.

I shrug my shoulders apologetically towards Asano's group and begin sprinting away from the crowd. Not a dull moment around here, aye?

Oh. My. Freaking. Gosh. I completely paused and forgot to tell you why I was assessing my new classmates!

It's because I'm assassinating our teacher!

Ibara: Therefore, while listening to everyone's opinions, I would like to decide the guidelines for this "Shuffle Project." What do you all hope to achieve?

I can't do something like the guerrilla concert that was mentioned earlier. Anything else would be eligible for consideration.

Yuzuru: That's right...... How about a tie-up or something? If you have a guess..... but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not

Ibara: A tie-up? It certainly makes sense for this project.

Tomoya: ? How is that reasonable?

Yuzuru: Temporary "units" like this are already difficult to permeate, but tie-ups can make up for it as an impact.

How should I put it?.... It could be a disadvantage, but just by changing the way it is presented, it could become an advantage

Tomoya: I see...

Rinne: Then why don't we just go with it? If it's just right.

Ibara: A tie-up is not a bad idea, but considering the circumstances, it may be a little difficult.

Tie-ups often take a long time to start because we can't move on our own

Subaru: Eh~. The tie-up looks fun~...

Rinne: Akehoshi-paisen didn't you just say that looks fun?

Subaru: Because. As long as I can sing and dance, I'll have fun no matter where I am♪

But that's no good، since they say it's hard to do this~. The world is boring with only strange ties, isn't it?

Ibara: For us who work in the producing business, this may be painful to hear

But there is a difference between anarchy and lawlessness and freedom. That is what I want you to understand.

Yuzuru: Well, things are a trial. So I think it's a good idea to come up with as many ideas as possible right now.

Since this October is the so-called "off-season," it is not a good idea to do a "shuffle project" right away.

The "P Agency" is probably not functioning properly right now. If we want to do a live concert, we can handle it on our own with our experience.

Ibara: I agree. Shall we work out the set list and details for the live?

Tomoya: Christmas is a special time of year, so what should we do about it~?

Ibara: Ah, there's no need to think too hard. The concept of Christmas is so clearly defined that it's almost as if the general framework has been decided

Tomoya: Is that so?

Ibara: of course, That's why we've chosen Christmas, which is the most important seasonal event.

Yuzuru: Certainly, when it comes to Christmas, the costumes and stage designs are somewhat universal, so it's not that difficult.

Subaru: Like Santa Claus or Christmas trees? Or Decorations and costumes based on red and green?

Ibara: Yes. By adding the element of Christmas to the live we are used to doing, we are meeting the specifications of a Christmas live

That alone will keep this project presentable

I'd say it's rather easy. There is only merit for us in the current situation

Well, that's what it is. Mashiro-shi, there is nothing to worry about. You don't have to be conscious of anything special, just try to perform as usual.

Why Ibara Would Pretend to Pick Up If a Toddler Handed Him a Fake Phone

So you may have read my two previous posts about Ibara: An Analysis on Whose Bed is Whose in the Tsumugi and Ibara Section of their Dorm and Additional Thoughts About Ibara & Aesthetics (You don't need to read those to understand this one. Just thought I'd plug them in 🙂) This post is a bit sillier. As if the two other posts weren't silly enough as it is, I'm going even sillier - so this one is definitely not meant to be taken as seriously. The title is another random thing I saw going around on Twitter months ago where people claimed their fave character would pretend to pick up the phone or not if a toddler handed them a fake phone. Frontline Watchdogs came out on Engstars recently and I believe it is very relevant to this question!

Ibara WOULD pretend to pick up the phone if a toddler gave him one and this is WHY!!

One of the many great scenes from Frontline Watchdogs that stood out to me is after Ibara pushes Mary too hard by exercising her too much and she ends up needing an IV. He intended to let Mary rest in Hiyori's dorm as the scent of her owner would be comforting.

However, Kanata and Rinne (Hiyori's dormmates) prove to be chaotic presences in the dorm: Kanata wants to feed Mary raw fish, and Rinne wants to use a giant isopod plushie to play with her. Needless to say Ibara does not deem this a suitable place for Mary to rest properly! And how does Ibara choose to get out of this situation??

...by pretending Mary TALKS to him. The cartoon-like comedy of this gets to me every time... just WHAT was Ibara's thought process?? It's like saying 'oops, I left the oven on at home'?

Surprisingly, this works and Ibara saves Mary from Rinne and Kanata. I'm mentioning all this because the next image below is extremely relevant.

What's this? It's Ibara petting the stuffed Daikichi toy in office mode. Let me emphasize PETTING. He crouches down and PETS him. As if he were a REAL DOG...

There's actually two different interactions the idols will have with Daikichi (and most plushies in general, it seems). There's the idols who crouch down and pet the plushie, and - as Tomoya is demonstrating here - there's idols who lift the plushie. You could say... he holds it like a toy, in comparison to Ibara's petting. It's my hc that the idols who pet the plushie like to pretend that the plushie is a real representation of Daikichi and treat it as such. The idols who lift the plushie, they see and treat it as it is: a toy.

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── (Optional thoughts: Another aspect is my personal interpretation that Ibara simply cannot be evil to people who are smaller than him. There's him feeling bad about potentially ruining Hajime's reputation in Bogie Time, being a nice teacher in Ibara Lecture, helping Mitsuru find the bread flavoured soda ((despite how weird it is that he wants... Bread flavoured soda)), and helping Tori calm down when they were stuck in an elevator.

Notably most of the people I listed are shorter and younger than him. He is a nice senpai overall. Kohaku... well... Kohaku is not like other kids... lol??)

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── Anyway… this is the insane and extremely Ibara-biased, probably not strongly informed connection and conclusion I'm making: Ibara is willing to pretend that Mary can talk, and he can pretend that the Daikichi plushie is real - therefore, the answer to the age old question!

Would he pretend to pick up if a toddler handed him a fake phone?

I believe he would based on the 'evidence' I've laid out!!!! 🫵 I think this is a good opportunity to segway into other instances of Ibara's absurd and imaginative self, such as his literal mice-shaped drones in Vagabond that scurry around in the walls spying for him. He even uses one of them to exercise Mary. What sort of cartoon villain nonsense... And one of my fave quotes ever from his silly, silly mouth:

I am endlessly in awe of Ibara's mind. As this post hopefully highlights, Ibara is so un-normal in ways that are so delightfully unexpected and he expresses it in full seriousness.

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── Anyway, I guess the meaningful conclusion I can make from all this for you to all think about is that - as is mentioned here and there by other characters - Ibara has his moments that really reflect his age. Underneath the business man, 'adult' persona he uses to survive in the adult world, he can be an extremely silly teenager who pretends dogs can talk to get out of an awkward situation, mouse shaped drones are a good idea, that making people dress up as cows is a hilarious punishment, and was so upset at Nagisa not telling him about a toothache he wanted to brush his teeth for him. Although the damage has already been done with his awful childhood (or lack of), and with him being 18 he doesn't have many years left of being a teen anymore - I really enjoy the moments where he acts his age. It would do so much good for him to be able to be a kid, when he had little chance to be one at all.

-Twin Peaks (Should have gone from this to Deadly Premonition and not the other way round because Francis York Morgan has given us permanent brain rot. Agent Cooper is such a delight though.)

-Naruto (not really vibing with it right now. I recognise it's a foundational show but it's slow, some narrative choices are confusing and I don't really get the ninjutsu stuff.)

-Hunter x Hunter (In contrast to Naruto, I am loving Hunter. I love the main group's dynamics and Gon as a character, and I really like whatever Killua has going on. The moments where Hisoka just has silly moments where he sulks or plays games makes me very happy. We're watching it with the 90's anime first and then going onto the modern version. The writing is incredibly good.)

Currently Consuming:

Nothing right now. In terms of content, I've started playing Granblue Fantasy Versus after always loving the art but not having a clue what it was about (I may get into the gatcha in the near future). Trying to learn Belial but I was first getting the hang of Yuel. I seem to like high-low mixups. In terms of food I just ate a curry.

I've eaten just recently so food isn't on my mind until I'm starving again.

[When being at the same school, as a student babysitter]

You were a babysitter before Hayato decided to, helping Kashima with anything you could. The little ones loving you as you played along with them to anything their creative minds came up with.

This being said, you've met many people on your way of becoming one of the babies' best friends. Including Tomoya Yagi.

You can't recall when was the first time you've met him, however, he seemed to do it, very well.

And just like that, he called himself your friend for the very first time.

Sometimes coming out of nowhere saying it was a mere coincidence.

Which you tried to brush off as his normal behaviour towards everyone the more you spent time with him at some walks by the park or stopping him from getting any closer to your little friends.

Hayato and you are classmates, but have never really become great friends or anything like that, on the other side, you were really close to Ryuuchi, he was so kind and cheerful with the kids and everyone sorrounding him, you admired him for that.

So it was a bit weird when knowing who the new adition to the babysitter's club was.

I've mentioned you've met Yagi, and to your surprise, there was this rare time when you've got to be with both Yagi and Ryuuchi, and they somehow had already met each other ?

The first week with Hayato as a new babysitter was spent on him learning the basics.

Mostly you teaching him how to take his brother off of him without being rude or acting mad around him, while Kashima took care of the others.

Yeah, a whole week for it.

During that period, Hayato got to know more about you and effectively, started showing a bit more of consideration with his brother. (Or more like he didn't hit him anymore, which was a lot of progress).

You couldn't help but notice that when you had spent class' time with a man or to be more specific, Kashima, he was way more agressive at the club, making you remember his first week there.

Those were limited occasions. But the first time he got to be with Yugi, and you were there ? ...let's say he'd be freezed in awkwardness and shock of him hugging you all friendly and calling you names. At first.

Of course he wouldn't show any other emotion that wasn't the embarrassment of being trapped with him. ( Yes because he'd obviously would like you to stay with him ).

Have I already mentioned Yugi knows the exact day, time and place were you met ? Well, it seems like he can't remember telling that story any moment, so he'd be most likely talking and laughing about that the whole time.

Maybe it was because he intended to annoy him even more, or he couldn't really remember talking about it 20 times ago, but Yugi won't stop; Hayato being about to lose his composure would prefer to get away of you two for a few minutes to calm down a bit.

⚾️Now, why would Hayato be more annoyed of ?

⚾️Words. Yes, words. Like, the hugs and holding hands can wait a little longer to tickle something on him.

⚾️Someone being touchy could only make him jelous because he can't show his affection too openly like that person seems to. But if that's not the case, then he's all to weird by the sudden touches been given to his S/o.

⚾️If there's this person who can't shut their mouth for a damn minute or keep on trying to steal you from him to have a small talk, he'll lose it.

⚾️He wants to talk to you, wants to get to know you better and share opinions, why does someone have to come and ruin it ?

⚾️Flirting ? In front of him ? the worst.

⚾️He'd get awkward as if someone's hugging you or anything like that as his first instinct, but some seconds after, he'd :

1-. Leave. If he's sensed you seemed to get along with that person, he thinks it'd be the best to leave for a few moments to relax and let you be.

2-. Do nothing but keep in the picture. This may be the one he applies the most since, as I've said, he doesn't really want to leave you. So, if that person seems to be persistent or even making you uncomfortable, he'd enter a bit by making slight commentaries about experiences you've had with him.

⚾️Would he stay mad for some time after the incident ?

⚾️Yes, but of course, not with you, he clearly knows you couldn't control it ( if that person was persistent ), or if that was a good friend of yours, he knows you'd tell him anything about it.

⚾️Sadly, and if his brother keeps bothering him, he'd end up being harsher than ever with him.

⚾️And if you ever try to come up as to why is he in that mood he'd try to avoid the topic or simply lie about Taka being more annoying than normal.

I'm sorry this must be the worst possible answer but I'm gonna have to say all of them because just. They're such a duo (affectionate)

I think a really big part of the beauty of wataei is that they're so. Uhm. How to word this. They're very...rich? In a way?? Like there's just so many things about them that really wanna make you go and swallow drain cleaner before you start screaming and there's just something abot every moment of theirs that really brings that out??? I hope this made sense???

But if I'd have to pick a specific favourite it's probably the Tempest waltz because that one's very sweet and I'm weak for sappy romance stuff and there's something about Eichi being what I'm gonna call self indulgent (for lack of better wording) that just. Gets me every time <3 (all of the Tempest wataei moments actually I love that event so much fine my beloveds and the cgs mwah mwah mwah)

(Close second must be either the ep:link mask scene or that one time in elements when Wataru was practicing his lines on the school rooftop and Eichi was watching him and pining so hard he partially turned into a forest)

(or that one time in Fist of the Shangri-la Idol where Wataru was like "That filth precisely is one of Eichis, dare I say all of humanities charm point!" And Eichi just answered with "Thanks I love you too Wataru" I thought that was really fun same with Sanctuary during the helicopter ride when Wataru basically said the same thing to him ("It is precisely because you are so deranged that I take such interest in you! <3") or when Eichi just left Tomoya in the middle of nowhere to dramatically make his exit with Wataru although I'm not sure if that really counts as a Wataei moment I just think that one's hilarious AND OH MY GOD HOW COULD I FORGET EICHIS FEVER DREAM FROM JINGLE BELLS That one also just </3 so bittersweet </3 or literally every time everyone mentions how Eichi would buy Wataru the world if he asked for it or in the Milky Way story the soba(??) which Eichi said reminded him of Watarus hair and then immediately went "actually, where is Wataru?" and the counter piece from Neverland where Nagisa made a pun on Ibaras name and Wataru went "oh you made a pun! Our Eichi is quite fond of those too! <33" (living in each others minds rent free lomve) and also that time in the summer vacation (I think it was called?) where Kaoru was calling for help because Wataru wouldn't leave him alone and Eichi just "Why, are you cheating on me Wataru?" I just thought that was really amusing they did not hold back on the wataei in that story though chapter one I think it was they already had them with the "Just for being yourself you've already earned 100 points!" "Well then I shall continue to aim for 120." And Watarus grandiously announcing Eichis arrival and Eichi answering with "oh you're making me blush" and NOT TO FORGET THE MILKY WAY SCENE AFTER THE LIVE WHEN THEY WERE SITTING AND EICHI WAS IN AWE ABOUT VALKYRIES PERFORMANCE AND THE "after all, the one who taught me that this world could be more beautiful than anything else was you." (I think it was something along those lines) which. Biting through a wall. And in daydream the way Eichi described Wataru was also *chefs kiss* I really liked that scene it was also very bittersweet (mainly bitter but that has it's appeal too no?) And aaah gosh the ending chapters of ep:link too those were sooooooo ("You could be Momotarou born from a peach. You could be a nameless extra of unknown origin. It all wouldn't matter because the one standing right in front of me is the Hibiki Wataru I love and admire." Dying deceased dead.) Just the way they are the reason we even have this entire store just the way they shaped the narrative I am soooooo normal about them AND DINER LIVE THE LAST CHAPTER when he said he wanted to stand on the same stage as Eichi not as a member of fine or as one of the five oddballs but as just Wataru that was also very <33 :)))) and all of Magnolia chapter 6/7/8 the bet to play a game and then the loser has to buy the winner lunch and the doll (that doll I am still not over that) and the way there's multiple dolls and "You're a genius I have taken quite a liking to" and the way Wataru wanted to hand those dolls up by the neck outside of the window for good weather and when Eichi had the Wataru doll sit in his chair so it wouldn't get dirtied I think was the reason and Tori was very weirded out by the situation I lomved that a lot they're very neat I love them a lot I love them so much they're so dear to me <3333)

Hello Enstarries~☆ Back again with a new part of my ramblings about Enstars' colorful and massive cast, this time about our cute bunnies Ra*bits! I really should hurry up with this series, so that I can actually start to read the main stories....

Cute, innocent, babies, spring, bun buns. These are the first words that come to mind before I read their Ep.1. Ngl, I was taken aback by how serious it all was with real things like, fans, images, staying relevant etc. I thought it would be more casual like Kaoru and Reis' but, uhhhh hm 😶 I initially thought, they'd be way more annoying bc somehow cutesy idol characters (Ruby (Love Live), I am looking at you) end up like that to me and their voices didn't help. They're all more....normal?....mature...than expected. Anyways, their image is, as Tomoya said, "good boys", and I agree. They do look cute and I really love their various renditions of sailor uniforms. I live for the mix and match of the different styles and colors for every member. AND their little fluffy pom pom or smth at their waist 💓 I like their music a lot. It's very upbeat and often bubbly, sometimes more peaceful. Feels like baking a lot of sweets with friends and then having a picnic under the shade of a tree on a sunny but slightly windy day. My fav songs are Melty Kitchen & FALLIN' IN LOVE=IT'S WONDERLAND. Also, the * looks like a censor lol

7/10 - I like them more than expected and think they're gonna be quite interesting

Tomoya Mashiro

Apparently one of the most normal guys of the cast, which by default should make him stand out again. He does seem very normal: blond hair, brown eyes, maybe a bit on the shorter side, but he looks like a normal person. Nonetheless, he doesn't come off as just a random dude. Maybe it's bc of what I just mentioned? He looks very friendly, chill, and overall just like a good person. Would probably share homework but also help you with it if asked. Also, might like vanilla (not derogatory). His voice is the least distinct from his unit, whiyh is why I kinda don't really remember his parts.

7.5/10 - I wouldn't mind being in a group project with him

Sei Shounen Yuugi S L A P S and it's such a shame there aren't more songs of him with Valkyrie. But it was kind of a toxic time for him? So, good on him for moving on *pats on back*, know your self-worth ✊ He doesn't like called being cute but, it's kinda his unit's image...? Idk why but I thought he'd be kinda rude and often pouty. And he does come off a bit cutesy with his oiiii~ and ehe~. Is he not human or what did he mean with feeling more human now? I would not be surprised if he's an android or smth not bc he give off those vibes but bc I've seen an android idol before (Ai (Utapri) if I'm not wrong but also Guy (A3!), even though he's not a real android).

6.5/10 - I don't have a real feeling for his personailty yet but I am curious

Dash dash dash~ The bread loving sprinting cinnamon bun is here. His model looks the tallest of the four. Is more what I imagined everyone from Ra*bits to be like: kinda dense, clumsy, naive yet very earnest and optimistic. He might be the baby of the group. Actually, isn't he almost a himbo? But like before being buff. Does he still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth? His voice is more different than I thought. It's more like...a crunchy herbal baguette instead of sweet pancakes. Btw I don't think we, as Anzu, are that much older for him call us "big sister", so that confuses me a bit. At first thought he'd be Chiaki's younger brother bc of their similiar hair and eye color.

6.5/10 - He's either very amusing or annoying to watch, but he looks cute

Hajime Shino

What a weak voice. He sounds like I could snap him like a young twig. It's not a bad voice but I can't feel a certain strength, that usually carries when singing. He's sounds very soft. And I do think he's a rather softspoken person. He actually reminds me of Muku & Tsumugi (A3!): a worrywart, soft, shota, pastel hair, lower confidence, very thoughtful, might be a bit of a pushover and likes gardening. Oh, I love his color scheme as well. Blue and pueple are very pretty. I somehow get the feeling, that if Ra*bits were to be put into an apocalypse setting, he'd be the first to kill to protect his friends. Or maybe not.

7.5/10 - he'd slay cottagecore, idk what to say to him but I don't mind seeing more I guess

Conclusion

I'm definitely intrigued by their clear division of idol persona and their own personality. Not saying, that they're completely different but it adds a little bit of smth. I think I'll also look forward their stories, which isn't what I expected.

On another note, even though I read their Ep.1 to get to know them better, I somehow focused more on the world building or how it acknowldeges real themes in the idol industry. Also, I'm not used to seeing idols, that aren't in high school in fiction.

Sorting AssClass characters into Tower of God team positions

Only because I thought that Gakushuu would make a perfect Light Bearer lol.

Tower of God's lore is a bit too wide and complicated for me to explain its world-building for those who haven't read it (or watched it). But since I'm only going to talk about team battle positions, I can just breeze through everything lol.

In order to climb the Inner Tower as a Regular, individuals with potential from the Residential (outer) District of the Tower must be selected by the Administrator of the 1st floor and approved by the Empire that was ruling the Tower.

Regulars must take series of tests every time they climb a floor. Taking a test requires a lot of points (money) and the difficulty increases the higher they climb.

Shinsu exists everywhere inside the Tower, essential to all living beings and thus enabling their survival in multiple ways. Shinsu is normally not visible to the naked eye like air, unless it is highly concentrated, manifested in large amounts or is manipulated using a Shinsu Technique or item.

Basic Positions

The battles in the Tower are mostly fought as teams and the Position of an individual is the role they play in a team. Of course it's possible to battle without dividing into specific Positions, but it's more efficient to utilize Positions.

** Note that one person is not limited to just only one position. The adults are expected to be able to handle any position despite having their own assigned one as they should be strong and experienced enough to do so.

There are five basic positions in a common team: Fisherman, Spear Bearer, Scout, Light Bearer, and Wave Controller.

Fisherman

Fishermen are the less technical job, they fight with destructive power, till death. They must be fearless, aggressive and have good stamina. In an army, they are the infantry. On the front line, they are the massive strength aimed at the enemy. They need be able to hold their ground because they are in the same way the first line of defence of the army.

Light Bearer

Light Bearers are usually the most support-oriented position, using cube-shaped exploring devices called Lighthouses to gain information on the battle or the surroundings. They can switch to being a rear-type and a frontal type.

Rear-type Light Bearers are specialists in analyzing information that they and the Scouts gather. They then makes plans to get the upper hand in the battle. It's a pure strategist role, the leader of the battle.

Frontal-type Light Bearers bring light in dark places and help the other fighters by enhancing their capabilities (giving Spear Bearers further range and more precise shots), like engineers and tacticians.

** Light Bearers must have enough combat training in order to defend themselves and the Lighthouse in case an enemy sneaks up on them.

A special position. A Defender defends. The Light Bearers are those who are much more useful in analyzing and planning the battle strategy than participating in combat themselves. The latter must be freed from the preoccupation of being attacked if they want to complete a strategy. The Defender gives them this freedom. They can also defend Spear Bearers.

There might be slight inaccuracies with some characters when sorting them, as their original roles in AssClass were a bit too special to translate it to a more simplistic team battle position. But I hope it wasn't too bad 😅

I put Kaho as a Light Bearer as she seems someone who can plan, make decisions on a whim, and have them executed successfully (though her methods tend to be more risky, I would say).

Now sorting them, with their current positions, into a team is a whole different matter and realistically speaking, the original groups sadly cannot be applied here.

By the way, how's Hokuto-senpai, Tomoya-kun? Is he eating properly?

Tomoya: Yes, I was actually just about to feed him.
