hi jumblr, I'm looking for good resources on intersectionality in the conext of pro-Palestine and pro-peace spaces, specifically on being inclusive of Jewish activists and avoiding antisemitism and antisemitic dogwhistles.

I've found some promising stuff, but also a frustrating amount of things framed as "protecting yourself from accusations of antisemitism" that don't have any examples of actual antisemitism for activists and teachers to educate about and avoid.

What if, instead, Dutch had seen Arthur spending time with them, had perceived him slipping away as a threat: a threat to himself, his gang, his security, his family, afraid of losing his lead enforcer - whether he truly at that point did love him like a son, or not. And in his insecurity or fear or whatever other reason, he finds someone rotten, unrelated to the gang, and he pays them to murder Eliza and her little boy, so no one will ever tempt Arthur away from the flock, and he instead puts all his energy and time into the gang, the only family he has left.

So to be honest I really didn't like Opposing Force. It was kind of a chore and it's really not that well designed from just like a gameplay perspective. And to be fair neither is blue shift but blue shift is poorly designed in a way that's just kind of boring and lets you breeze through the game without much of a challenge- Opposing Force has the complete opposite issue at least in my opinion. Opposing Force has such a strange difficulty curve and really struggles to communicate concepts to the player.

But I did like one thing about Opposing Force. I like the silent protagonist. He gets so much characterization most of which I think is probably unintentional and me just reading something interesting into an uninteresting character. But like hear me out.

The game opens up with Adrian Shephard on his way to Black Mesa while the other people in his unit talk amongst themselves about how much they want to kill something and how irritating it is that they don't have their orders yet. Their helicopter is taken out and Shephard is now the sole survivor out of his unit. Following this he is saved by a Black Mesa scientist- had Shephard received his orders and made it to Black Mesa he probably would have had to kill this dude. However he doesn't know he's supposed to be killing scientists and security guards and is later forced to accept help from Otis a Black Mesa security guard 🎉 so already he's kind of doing the opposite of what he's supposed to be doing. Later in the game you start picking up little alien guns and whatnot and use them to get through the game, one of these being the spore launcher. This thing really made me open to the idea of caring about Adrian- I'm really fatigued by the whole army man shit. I like war movies don't get me wrong but there's only so many times I can watch full metal jacket before I get tired of it. So anyways. There's an idle animation that sometimes happens while you're holding the spore launcher where Adrian will pet it. And it responds to him. They didn't need to do this. Like they really didn't need to do this, but it adds so much to Adrian as a character that he's just.. compelled to pet this weird little alien that he's been using as a gun since he found it.

I just think like conceptually he's really interesting. Like this game demands you to rely on everything that you were primed to kill going in. Like in Half Life and in Blue Shift you have to kill soldiers, in Opposing Force the main like thing that makes this game special is that you are a soldier and you have to rely on other soldiers to help you through the game. Well okay you're a soldier so that means you're going to be killing scientists and security guards right? Not necessarily. Your first encounter with a scientist is him saving your life and trying to save the life of your comrades, your first encounter with a security guard is him opening a door for you after you run away from a zombie completely unarmed

So those are my thoughts on Adrian Shephard 👍 I think he's strange and very interesting

I have seen some (excellent) fanfic suggesting that X-Men 97 Morph has a photographic memory because that is apparently an ability associated with 616 Changeling (mostly in character bios, one of those informed traits that's never really seen on-page, like Avalanche supposedly being married). And I love the idea, but I can imagine TAS Morph would downplay or hide it because:

Photographic memory would mean people expect them to be a genius, and they are definitely NOT a genius. I think Morph is reasonably intelligent, but they are not Beast or Forge's level. I can imagine Morph able to rattle off some highly technical information that they read somewhere, but having no fucking clue what it actually means.

They can no longer use "I forgot" as an excuse.

On a more serious note, Morph was definitely having memory issues during their time under Sinister's control, and I tend to headcanon that they never fully remember all of it, those memories are shattered, incomplete, and often out of order and out of context, and it is terrifying for Morph that for the first time they cannot rely on their memory, but at the same time what they do remember stands out in sharp, painful detail. (Something that Wolverine would fully understand and relate to if Morph let him in enough to talk about it.)

underrated thing about wang baoxiang is how utterly pathetic he is. intentionally provokes his brother every time they interact because having esen be mad at him for something he did on purpose is easier than being vulnerable and then is like how could esen think i hate him :(( goes around rolling his eyes at all these Idiots who don't consider the Needs of the Common Folk and then gets grossed out whenever a servant dares to speak to him. constantly thinking about Hot Men Exercising and how much they all want to fuck each other probably. hasn't emotionally matured past the age of fifteen (he is twenty-three). thinks of himself as a Character instead of a person so much that he gets surprised whenever the things he did for their narrative significance have actual real consequences. while being quite literally haunted by a specter of his own guilt is like hm what could this mean. well time to not sleep for another 36 hours. kills people and then throws up about it and then goes off to kill more people because surely this is the one that will fix everything right. wants to be punished for what he's done because it's the closest he can get to admitting he feels remorse. looks for his brother everywhere but only ever finds himself.

which of course culminates with him stalking miserably through the hallways looking for someone to be mad at because there needs to be someone else responsible for making his life suck but there isn't anymore because no one has power over him anymore. and he can't go back but tries to convince himself that he doesn't want to because he also needs to see himself as being In Control of Everything That's Ever Happened to Him. he wanted it all along and he likes it here actually. and he won fratricide chicken and got himself tortured and tried to show mercy and did every evil dishonorable thing and now he just has to live with it all forever. loser!!!!
