Incomplete list of things Disney could be working on other than the Lilo and Stitch live action remake:
Dubbing and officially releasing the Stitch anime
Cobra Bubbles spy-flick (probably a prequel about how he rescued earth by designating mosquitoes as an endangered species, but I could see a sequel "veteran cop goes back into the field" spin work just as well)
That Monster's Inc crossover people wrote a couple years ago
Speaking of, why didn't anyone pitch a Treasure Planet crossover? That's an idea with some legs (Lilo would destroy Silver in like a day)
And while we're at it, that Lilo goes to Galactic College spinoff TV show
A 90-minute animatic of Pleakly showing us slides from his wedding with Jumba and their honeymoon
An Oscar-bait biopic on Queen Lili’uokalani, the last sovereign of Hawaii before it was colonized by the US
Pretending to remake Lilo and Stitch, but at the premiere they just show that video of a guy husking a coconut with his bare teeth and nothing else
Rereleasing the entire movie but replacing the Alan Silvestri score with new songs written by J-Rock band the pillows (Elvis can stay)
Creating a time machine to stop itself from cutting the "mayhem at the beach" deleted scene
Producing and distributing more films made by Native Hawaiians and hiring more Native Hawaiians in both cast, crew, and park staff roles.
Actual Lilo and Stitch park representation (the name 'Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride' is rigHT THERE)
Paying it's staff a living wage
Financially supporting public works projects to improve the quality of life for Hawaiians and return Native land to Native hands
Supporting charities such as the Nature Conservancy, Kahea, and Waiwai Ola Waterkeepers that work to protect and maintain Hawaiian land

Interior Department Announces New Guidance to Honor and Elevate Hawaiian Language
Tumblr media
"In commemoration of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, or Hawaiian Language Month, and in recognition of its unique relationship with the Native Hawaiian Community, the Department of the Interior today announced new guidance on the use of the Hawaiian language.
A comprehensive new Departmental Manual chapter underscores the Department’s commitment to further integrating Indigenous Knowledge and cultural practices into conservation stewardship.
“Prioritizing the preservation of the Hawaiian language and culture and elevating Indigenous Knowledge is central to the Biden-Harris administration's work to meet the unique needs of the Native Hawaiian Community,” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “As we deploy historic resources to Hawaiʻi from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, the Interior Department is committed to ensuring our internal policies and communications use accurate language and data."
Department bureaus and offices that engage in communication with the Native Hawaiian Community or produce documentation addressing places, resources, actions or interests in Hawaiʻi will use the new guidance on ‘ōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) for various identifications and references, including flora and fauna, cultural sites, geographic place names, and government units within the state.  The guidance recognizes the evolving nature of ‘ōlelo Hawaiʻi and acknowledges the absence of a single authoritative source. While the Hawaiian Dictionary (Pukui & Elbert 2003) is designated as the baseline standard for non-geographic words and place names, Department bureaus and offices are encouraged to consult other standard works, as well as the Board on Geographic Names database.
Developed collaboratively and informed by ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi practitioners, instructors and advocates, the new guidance emerged from virtual consultation sessions and public comment in 2023 with the Native Hawaiian Community.
The new guidance aligns with the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to strengthening relationships with the Native Hawaiian Community through efforts such as the Kapapahuliau Climate Resilience Program and Hawaiian Forest Bird Keystone Initiative. During her trip to Hawaiʻi in June, Secretary Haaland emphasized recognizing and including Indigenous Knowledge, promoting co-stewardship, protecting sacred sites, and recommitting to meaningful and robust consultation with the Native Hawaiian Community."

Note: I'm an editor so I have no idea whether this comes off like as big a deal as it potentially is. But it is potentially going to establish and massively accelerate the adoption of correctly written Native Hawaiian language, as determined by Native Hawaiians.
Basically US government communications, documentations, and "style guides" (sets of rules to follow about how to write/format/publish something, etc.) can be incredibly influential, especially for topics where there isn't much other official guidance. This rule means that all government documents that mention Hawai'i, places in Hawai'i, Hawaiian plants and animals, etc. will have to be written the way Native Hawaiians say it should be written, and the correct way of writing Hawaiian conveys a lot more information about how the words are pronounced, too, which could spread correct pronunciations more widely.
It also means that, as far as the US government is concerned, this is The Correct Way to Write the Hawaiian Language. Which, as an editor who just read the guidance document, is super important. That's because you need the 'okina (' in words) and kahakō in order to tell apart sizeable sets of different words, because Hawaiian uses so many fewer consonants, they need more of other types of different sounds.
And the US government official policy on how to write Hawaiian is exactly what editors, publishers, newspapers, and magazines are going to look at, sooner or later, because it's what style guides are looking at. Style guides are the official various sets of rules that books/publications follow; they're also incredibly detailed - the one used for almost all book publishing, for example, the Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS), is over a thousand pages long.
One of the things that CMoS does is tell you the basic rules of and what specialist further sources they think you should use for writing different languages. They have a whole chapter dedicated to this. It's not that impressive on non-European languages yet, but we're due for a new edition (the 18th) of CMoS in the next oh two to four years, probably? Actually numbering wise they'd be due for one this year, except presumably they would've announced it by now if that was the case.
I'm expecting one of the biggest revisions to the 18th edition to add much more comprehensive guidance on non-Western languages. Considering how far we've come since 2017, when the last one was released, I'll be judging the shit out of them if they do otherwise. (And CMoS actually keep with the times decently enough.)
Which means, as long as there's at least a year or two for these new rules/spellings/orthographies to establish themselves before the next edition comes out, it's likely that just about every (legit) publisher will start using the new rules/spellings/orthographies.
And of course, it would expand much further from there.

it's kinda crazy to me that some people can't fathom.....no going to hawai'i. Like they're telling you not to go there's a billion other places to go why would you vacation in hawai'i if the native people tell you not to??? Hawaiians telling you to not vacation in hawai'i like someone telling you to not come into their private house like they might have cool stuff in there but it's their fuckingg house. STOP FUCKING GOING TO HAWAI'I VACATION SOMEWHERE ELSE MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!!

The fact Charlie & Alphonse & Seth are non-rhotic accented means they'd say my chosen Romaji-based name (Irish-English -or/-er into Japanese -ā) in the proper pronunciation even when saying it Anglicized with the schwa ending, which is everything to me! I'd KILL to hear Yuurivoice Boys moan say my name!

I was biking past the ocean yesterday. I think being a native-American, foraging for shellfish and hunting deer or fishing and picking berries and corn would be the ideal life.. You could live in a small village and all know our neighbors. There'd be endless lands to explore.
Pretty sure our society has been downhill since then. Like yay! Planes! But also credit-scores?! Global WARMING?! Whhyyyyyyy? Lets go back to before fossil fuels.. We can all just frolic in the woods and meadows and eat berries and walk everywhere.

the more i hear abt that lilo and stitch movie (against my own will) my ass itches... the social services character is now a woman who isn't a government agent. yea all these casting choices are making it clear the commentary on how native hawaiian families are constantly separated by the US government is NOT going to be in that movie anymore

ive kinda not said shit about the maui fires because everyone's already said everything, but I'm kinda tired of like a million million negative posts just absolutely shitting on idk celebrities donating and stuff. Like i don't give a shit lol. Who the hell cares wtf oprah is doing, being pissed about it won't bring peoples houses and loved ones back.
The government failed us, the world failed us. Everything sacred that native Hawaiians ever held dear has been ruined and trampled on. This is just another tragedy that could've been avoided if hawaiian land was in hawaiian hands. I understand the anger, but its sorta strange and disconcerting to see non hawaiians ranting and raving about celebrity drama and their opinions on donating or how to even view the tragedy. The fire made hawaii's struggle more visible to people, but it's upsetting that people are speaking about how fragile hawaii is only nOW after 200+ years of hardship and bullshit.
It all just makes me feel empty. Thanks so much for talking about rich people donating and whether or not they gave an appropriate amount, thanks for being angry about issues you should've already been mad about. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers but our islands are dying and this isn't anything new. this was a tragedy waiting to happen and it was set in motion years and years ago. It's tragic and horrible but it's bEEN tragic and horrible.
The anger and sympathy comes across as crocodile tears. Why did a bunch of people need to literally die before people started talking about hawaii's struggle. Thanks so much for your sympathies but we have been fucked for a long, long time. maui has been fucked for a long long time and so has every other island. Your anger just doesn't matter because we have been angry since we were illegally forced into becoming a part of America. We have been angry ever since the first goddamned boat that landed on our shores. We live on a ticking time bomb and all number of disaster is eventually going to happen. Please don't wait for people to DIE before you start caring.

Anyway, fuck colonization, give Hawaii back to Native Hawaiians, and stop going to Hawaii you greedy fucks.
Gonna look up some Native Hawaiian organizations to donate to later cause I'm done with this BS. I know it's not much but it's the only thing I can do right now.
Fuck Colonialism. Full. Stop.

every other tiktok i see is another black creator either calling a native hawaiian white and stripping them of their identity and/or saying the recast of david is better JUST because he has darker skin in the casting photo, and i’m so fucking sick of it. all i’ve been seeing from actual fucking hawaiians is a call to stop doing that if you’re not in the community. and no one is listening. and of course, white leftists are waiting for ANY poc to speak on it before going in with their brain-dead blood quantum takes so they don’t look racist. please stop. please stop speaking over the indigenous community that these things actually effect. you have NO RIGHT to be speaking on it just because you’re a poc. amplify the voices of the actual group effected and keep your fucking opinions on an indigenous group to yourself.

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen for several reasons, chief among them being that secession is not something that can happen.
The US has a vested interest in its continuity as a nation, and due to how its structured, and how there is no legal difference between its "core" and its "colonies" (especially in this case as Hawaii is a state) allowing an exit clause for one state gives ALL OF THEM an exit clause.
What the US CAN do however is pay reparations for the damage done, place further protections onto the already federally protected land in the state, and back movements to teach and promote native Hawaiian culture in the state. (the rest really comes down to the state government of Hawaii itself as it has a lot more immediate power in this situation like deciding what gets taught in their schools and doing more local environmental protections and how they regulate the resorts. Being a state in the US is very similar to being its own country. the reason we don't have semi-autonomous zones is that every state is one)
I don't think it's a radical ideal for the want of Hawai'i to become their own independent country. It should have never been taken over by the US in the first place. For a country whose entire foundation is based upon "separation from a colonial country" it's laughable that they made an entire population that was self governed into a state. It's insulting. It's already blatantly obvious that this whole country was based on lies and blood, and it only continues to perpetuate that. I'm shocked that the Hawai'ian sovereignty movement isn't mainstream even though they have been fighting for it since 1997. Fuck the American government.

Like if I moved to Hawaii I would still be a settler. It doesn't matter that I'm also Indigenous, it doesn't matter if I'd be poor or even just not rich while living in Hawaii, it doesn't matter if I didn't kill or enslave or mistreat any Native Hawaiians when I moved there, I'd still be benefitting from the illegal occupation & settler colonialism of Hawaii if I moved there because of its current situation.
And since I don't WANT to help along with settler colonialism in Hawaii, I don't and will not move to Hawaii. I become an ally by supporting their landback movement.
