I fear that "fire bending didn't come easy to zuko" and "zuko isn't a prodigy" (both true) has somehow snowballed into "zuko is a bad or at best average fire bender".... which simply isn't true, especially by the end of book 3

#it certainly doesn't help that pretty much the only other fire bender that Zuko's consistently contrasted with #is his extremely talented once in a lifetime level of a prodigy sister #but guys he's still very powerful #and I will bravely propose that #after seeing the dragons #and Zuko is no longer relying on his anger and rage to fuel his firebending #its not a coincidence that the next two battles that he has with Azula either #end with a stalemate (both Zuko and Azula use the same move on the airship and notably she's blown back further from it than he is!)#and then him winning (she's lost her stability while he's finally found his)#(side side note: I'm of the camp that Azula targeting Katara in the Agni Kai made Zuko the automatic victor because an Agni Kai is #(should be?)#between only the two partaking in it and Zuko WAS straight up wiping the floor with her until that very moment where she targeted Katara #which you know great play on Azula part she knows how to manipulate her brother cause once she released she was losing the Agni kai #Azula simply made the choice to get the throne via the line of succession lol)#ah well #atla #zuko

The normalest.#Honorable mention for the character rankings: Lan Wangji! for “Most improved in rank”.#Sorry Lan Wangji fans but until the audio drama I honestly was...pretty indifferent towards him.#I think a huge part of that was due to the fact he's constantly paired up with WWX; who has *so* much charisma and steals the scene #But I've really come to like him a lot more since starting this project. He rose from mid-tier to being in the top ten!#Dishonorable mention: Nie Huaisang. Who fell out of number 1 spot and out of the top 5.#He just hasn't shown up a lot! And my rankings are fickle! They will probably change once I finish the third season!#My favourite comics are: A lot of them! #so there's this person on twitter who is like an infamous drama starter and got a whole forum shut down once #and they wrote this (different) book that's one of the greatest so bad it's good things i've ever read #a few great things that happen in that:#characters get in a car crash and flee on foot. later it's casually mentioned one character had both her legs amputated 'due to fractures'#the character pretending to be american by wearing maga hats that have spy gear built into them #the spy gear in question is an alarm that blares if someone lies in their vicinity #'stuff protocol ' said the queen. 'i'm getting hammered tonight'#the chapter where the prime minister is trying to watch the news so she keeps wandering into bars and tv shops and getting kicked out #the dragon that's casually described as 'about the size of 1000 elephants'#the dragon that's a 'dog dragon hybrid with a chihuahua body and a giant dragon head'#the dragon that's owner punched it in the face and only lets people approach if they 'do the iconic royal wave'#the characters being described as 'the short one' 'the guy with the beard' etc #but there being a lengthy detailed description of the characters in harry potter #'apparently a dragon had burnt essex to cinders in a matter of minutes'#anyways i found out they also wrote (a political parody of indiana jones???) for this book of kids short stories years ago #and you know. we needed to know #so it took me like 4 months to track this precious lost media down #which was very worth it because it turns out it's full of many other iconic gems like CELLAR HELL by Elizabeth Elgie (12)

some stories are written precisely to elicit strong emotions from the reader INCLUDING negative ones. some stories and characters are meant to be upsetting, they are meant to challenge you and make you uncomfortable!! when a story makes you feel Big Feelings sometimes you are meant to sit in those feelings and ask yourself why! fiction is a great space to explore these emotions in a safe environment. you, as the reader, are meant to think critically about the art you are enjoying and that includes asking yourself questions like why has the author presented their art in this way and what are they trying to tell me. and then you get to have fun picking it apart and figuring it out and deciding what, exactly, the art means to you.

#this post has been in my drafts since SEPTEMBER and it just gets more and more relevant lately #and sure sometimes we decide in the end that the art is bad and that we don't like it. that's fine. i'm not arguing anyone's right #to dislike certain things. it's fine!!! but why are you acting like it's a personal offense??? what's going on??#like idk what is in the water these days that people have become so averse to Storytelling #the whole POINT is to make you FEEL SOMETHING!!!#why are you getting mad at artists for making you feel something!!!!#between some of the asks i and other authors get to the recent stuff with mouthwashing and epic saga and fucking nosferatu #NOSFERATU. I hate that this is genuinely something I'm writing rn, but nothing has more RATTLED my faith in the writing team's ability to write a Zane story then him calliNG ARIN CRINGE-

#ok just gonna confess I sent this one in because it kept me up at night slightly when I got up to use the bathroom #the way Excalibur Umbra just immediately lost relevance in the story bothered me and I'm scared the same will happen to the drifter #like you can only make so many characters be relevant at a time or stretch yourself thin I get it but like.... ugh it just bothers me #is the drifter just stuck completing the kalymos sequence forever now? doomed to save a time loop over and over?#having their friends from the hex forget them over and over and having to play catch up every single time? sounds a bit... depressing?#warframe does a lot of good things but utilizing the full potential story telling of their characters is where they sometimes fall flat #this is one thing i will always kind of like... idk ding digital extremes points for is not utilizing characters to the fullest potential #while still recognizing that gives them room to tell more stories with the characters DE has given us #idk what they'll do with the hex given the giants found in the Entrati labs but idk i just don't want these beloved characters to fade #out of relevancy if that makes sense.
