i’m just gonna lead with the miscellaneous stuff (WOW i spelled that without spell check. didn’t know i could do that.) i’m a young adult bi dude. apparently i’m quiet but snarky and people say my humor is very dry (i have a monotone voice and am Very Committed To The Bit.). i used to have really bad anger issues to the point that davey pre-character arc is more relatable than he should be (even though my parents are alive. they’re just shit). i try to dress kinda grungy? but also whatever’s cozy/comfortable and in neutral/dark colors (except red! i like red, my hair is dyed neon red) i used to have cptsd so bad i basically didn’t leave the house for two years. i think it was like agoraphobia or something? there were delusions in there too. i’m much better now though.

usually the kind of stuff i listen to is loud angry rock music (fave song is hysteria by muse) or slightly older pop music (florence and the machine, MARINA) but the last few days i’ve been on a newer pop kick and i’ve been playing “Good Luck, Babe!” by chappell roan on repeat and it makes me want to scream on a windswept seaside cliff during a storm. specifically the bit from 2:15 to ~3:10 in the song. i know it’s a banger when it makes me want to scream on a cliff or punch something.

It was so fun to look for a pop-rock song that would make you want to scream or punch something, and I hope this fits the bill. The first chorus extremely hits on top of being a beautiful love song, and I think it wouldn’t be out of place on a road trip with Huxley in the driver’s seat or by a gorgeous cliffside.

Aaron and Sam are your runner-ups for a lot of similar reasons. They both also have drier senses of humor, so I think you could vibe and hold to a bit with either of them. I headcanon both of them wearing red often (Sam, a red-checked flannel and Aaron, a red polo a la his thumbnails), so you could match. Just went on Instagram to look at more DR art (because tumblr won't let me see a lot of DR art for some reason) and saw hinanami discourse out in the wild which made me say, out loud, "oh, are we still doing this 💀"

Like idk if I've just aged out of the fandom (on Instagram) but just seeing that hinanami rant made me realize I've been spoiled by the DR community on Tumblr bc I'll scroll on here for 2 minutes and see a text post that will literally SHIFT my entire view of a character/ship and CHANGE my LIFE in just a small analysis that was probably written by op while they were on the toilet💀

Anyway it made me think of the post about Maki and Chappel Roan that I actually recited by memory out loud to my friend last night [gooning over wlw content together after watching Muriel's Wedding], And also that one post abt Monomi and Monokuma being Junko's satire of her own rivalry with Mukuro, and Junko not liking that her friends don't appreciate her fursona doing stand-up 💀💀 and like compare that to Instagram discourse and it's like "Komahina is stupid bc hinata isn't straight" like 💀

Anyway maybe it was the same on tumblr before [it probably definitely was] but now that I'm older I'm really appreciating mature convos/takes about danganronpa because good fanfiction/fanart/fan interpretations are truly adapting the story+characters in much better ways than the creators could ever imagine circa 2010 [pointy objects] [peaches and cream] [anything w/autistic nagito] [anything w/transmasc hajime]

number one rule of modern fandom experience (at the very least with media that has a propensity to draw Certain Crowds [looking especially hard at danganronpa and p5]) is CURATE YOUR OWN SPACE AND STRAY NO FARTHER ‼️‼️‼️ i personally escaped the early era dr fandom (pre v3 localization/the 2019 Danganronpa Renaissance) but time capsule posts tell me i dodged something of a bullet there ❤️ in that vein 2019/2020/covid era discourse was still crazy insane (<- was a part of it for sure LMFAO) but it had a much different Flavor than it did way back when. and the same is true of present-day: still a little kooky if you search hard enough (insta/tiktok/twitter/tumblr all have their own demons). but at least This go around i have largely avoided that by picking my people that i trust not to be Weird and just living in my own bubble wrt the dr fandom at large. and thats served me very well the past year+ since i got back into dr <3 and i have also seen MANY of those perspective-altering posts in that little curation circle that has deepened and made better my experience THE GOOD IS OUT THERE ‼️‼️‼️

1. movies/tv!!!! this is a more broad listing but i could fill all 10 slots with movies and tv shows i love lmfao, but i did acting and media classes for 5 years, and i plan to go to university for film studies, so it’s a huge passion of mine from an analytical and productive standpoint, but at the same time i LOVE fandom and consuming myself in media and fanfiction and fanart and edits and AAAGH i love it all !!! some of my favourite movies are juno, labyrinth, baby driver, tangled, jordan peele’s movies, hereditary, misery, pitch perfect, little miss sunshine, and soooo many more and some of my favourite tv shows are doctor who, supernatural, the walking dead, the society, chuck, new girl, friends, the haunting of hill house/bly manor, and i can’t think of anymore but i could yap about movies and tv forever !!!

2. music!!!! i cant go a day without listening to music, i either have my headphones on (i do constantly out of the house) or i have a really good cd player (i collect cds!!) and speaker system in my bedroom. some of my favourite artists are taylor swift, paramore, metallica, chappell roan, ethel cain, jeff buckley, deftones, searows, norah jones, adam melchor, mitski, billie eilish, and soooo many more

3. writing!!! feels obvious to say coming from a fanfic writer but i love writing so much, i’ve loved creative writing my entire life, it was always my favourite part of english lessons at school, i’ve been writing fanfic literally since i was like 12/13, it’s so so so so much fun i love it i have so many fanfics i just write for myself (i don’t post them bc they’re oc centric even though they’re spn)!!

This is how lame/old I am: I literally cannot remember the last time I went out lmfao. It was probably before the pandemic, maybe the summer of 2019? I went to a gay club in the city with a few friends and got drunk and watched a drag show from the second floor railing. I danced with some girl I’d never met and never saw again after I went to the bathroom. Ran away from my friends to find cigarettes with another girl I’d just met. It was a great time lol

12. Your favorite book

I have several favorites, but I’ll narrow it down to three. My “classy lit” favorite is The Secret History by Donna Tartt; my “trashy but it made me insane and rewrote my brain chemistry and the way I write” favorite is IT by Stephen King; and my children’s book favorite is A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle.

I love when I get asked a question like this because immediately every experience I’ve ever had completely vacates my brain. I’ve been a child sitting in a white room for 30 odd years.

Oh, okay, here’s one I will truly never forget: years ago I worked at [redacted] where I was a part time employee, but I’d been there several years and knew the place in and out. I even helped the full time people above me with some of their daily work when I had the time. I knew the customers and the staff and I really liked working there, and I was very good at it, I even trained other people in my position. So naturally when a full time position opened up, I applied for it. Didn’t even get an interview. The fucking guy that was hired was so monumentally bad at his job that I and other people in my position (all getting paid basically minimum wage with no benefits while he started at 14/15 an hour plus benefits) had to train him on how to read the FUCKING ALPHABET. I am not kidding. So yeah, I’ll never forget or forgive that boss for not even giving me an interview lol

hey everyone, sorry for being inactive again, life has been mega crazy so instead of a really well thought out post i’ve been thinking about my top 10 albums of all time (well more like released in the last six years) so here we go. none of these are in order, they are just my top 10. 

Wasteland, Baby! - Hozier (2019)

First time I heard this album it felt like I was floating the entire time. How it changes throughout with no two songs sounding the same but the message carrying through overall. The title track is by far the best one off the album. Wasteland, Baby! is definitely the one I reach for the most because, well…

Unreal Unearth - Hozier (2023)

I listened to this so much I became so obsessed with the idea of the circles of Hell and Dante’s Inferno that I bored anyone who would listen about it. There are so many little references and so many little quirks that mean I have to listen to it fully every time I listen, like I cannot stop halfway through and then carry on. The attention to detail is just incredible.

the record - boygenius (2023)

Summer 2023 in one album. I was lucky enough to see them on tour and it changed my entire perspective on life. Sad girl summer was the prologue to Brat summer this year. Aside from the tour, the whole thing is just an insane journey of friendship and caring about people and encouraging them to carry on in life. 

Trench - twenty one pilots (2018)

Trench my beloved. Trench is love, Trench is life. Trench makes the world go round. It’s like an eargasm every time I listen to it. The songs are just impeccable, the mixing, the drums, the lyrics, all of it. It got me through a tough period of my life. Leave the City remains the best closing track they have ever put out in my opinion. (happy birthday trench <3)

Hypersonic Missiles - Sam Fender (2019)

I first listened to Hypersonic during lockdown and I think it was ultimately what got me into politics and what influenced me to try to change the world in some way. The way that Sam Fender writes such poetic lyrics and puts them to tunes that sound right, and then can bring that into stadiums and festivals and not change the essence of them, amazing. 

My Soft Machine - Arlo Parks (2023)

I have never met another Arlo Parks fan irl and it actually hurts. There’s just something about the way her voice flows and sounds that just immediately makes me want to hear more. My Soft Machine is such an eclectic mix of songs and every time I listen to it I wish I could listen to it again for the first time. It reminds me of summer, of those final weeks of happiness before moving on to do bigger things. Dog Rose supremacy. DOG ROSE SUPREMACY.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan (2023)

I once had a drunken conversation with a friend of a friend about TRAFOAMP and a few weeks later I was at a pub quiz and a friend and I fought over the quiz answer sheet because Red Wine Supernova came on and we both knew the answer and wanted to write it down. It’s fun, gay, and creates such a sense of community. I have forced so many people to listen to it, and every person has loved it. If I ever want to dance around my room to something, I put it on. 

Punisher - Phoebe Bridgers (2020)

It’s easy to say that Phoebe’s voice is incredible but I would say she has the voice of a generation. It’s not often I go a whole day without hearing snippets of her voice on social media, but her soft vocals throughout the album move me every time. The variety in the album too, going from Kyoto to I Know The End and all the songs in between. It’s a timeless album.

Prelude to Ecstacy - The Last Dinner Party (2024)

I looped this album over and over and over whilst on a train journey and every song sounded so incredible and so unique and the crescendos were amazing. I love how the band performs, with complete theatrics and aesthetics that you don’t see as much with bands nowadays. 

Clancy - twenty one pilots (2024)

My most anticipated album of the year and it didn’t disappoint. I listened to the whole thing with my partner and I wrote notes on how each song made me feel and how the lore was going down. i think this one is a funny one honestly bc i think it’s super unserious. like ppl r just trying to enjoy things?? whether they have ur DEEP and THOUGHTFUL and whtvr the fuck bs ur on doesn’t mean they deserve to b a fan of smth less or even that they can’t take part in smth on the internet surrounding that thing.

and like obviously ur going to disagree w peeps ab their takes on shit BC THEY’RE NOT YOU bitch. “oh wait other ppl exist w different opinions than me? GROUNDBREAKING.” 😐

mf b fr. and this comes back to specific trends within fandoms too i think. as soon as some artists smth starts trending or theres a clip going around, more ppl who only have surface lvl knowledge of some shit u might enjoy r gonna see it, that’s what going viral means. that’s what being famous IS these days.

like can u imagine OG chapelll roan fans rn, or ethel cain. or any artist who’s been in the zeitgeist for years but only recently exploded yknow. they prbly think we’re all mf posers who only care ab these things bc we saw em on a tiktok or whatvr.

but i got to tell ya, i was suggested both of these artists, chappell ab 5 months ago and ethel prbly 2 yrs ago, and im slightly less (ONLY SLIGHTLY!!) obsessed w chappell but w ethel i can tell u, i went absolutely feral w that lore, ik basically all of it, i’ve heard every song she’s released under ethel and i love them all not even kidding.

but my point is ok, is that ppl need to be have some surface lvl knowledge ab someone if they’re going to fall in love w their work the way i did, and unfortunately that means not EVERYBODY is gonna b like that. ppl just like shit bc it’s cool. or it’s pretty. or it SOUNDS BEAUTUFUL like so beautiful you could cry.

that’s smth i think ppl get twisted too, just bc someone’s not rly interested in the lyrics of the song or don’t rly pay attention to them, does not mean that they have less of an appreciation for the music. as someone who can do both, but genuinely can just sit there w the music unburdened by the lyrics, it’s rly an experience i don’t know how to describe, but it is a thing of beauty.

my point is there isn’t only one way to enjoy smth, and if u think there is i would like to know how exhausted you r constantly loving every artist you come across w the same amount of passion. bc obviously u don’t, nobody does.

you love smth to only it’s surface lvl that someone else thinks is the greatest work of art known to man. and that’s not a sin, or wrong and ur not rly missing out on anything, bc if u were, u would have already realised u enjoyed it enough to try and see more of it, but that’s not a fucking requirement to b a fan or even enjoy smth for christs sake.
