Would A Mudkip Be A Good Pet?
Tumblr media
For our third Indigo Disk Week post, it’s time to cover the fan-favorite muddy baby mudkip! I’m happy to announce that a mudkip would indeed make a good pet, so long as you are able to provide the right environment for them.
As far as the basics go, we’ve got all the usual water-type starter features. Manageable size. Bit of a risk of getting your place all soggy. Common first partner pokémon in the Hoenn Region and thus known to be friendly and receptive to training. Absolutely adorable. These are all pluses so far.
The only issues when it comes to mudkip care, in addition to the aforementioned risk of getting sprayed with water, come in their habitat needs. Wild mudkips live in shallow, muddy bodies of water, sleeping under soil and mud either at the waters edge (Emerald) or at its bottom (HeartGold/SoulSilver). Mudkips seem to be amphibious, having no problem spending time on land while simultaneously boasting gills that allow them to breathe underwater (Sapphire) and a tail fin specialized in propelling them through currents (FireRed/LeafGreen). Mudkips have adapted to living in murky water by developing the fin on their head to act as a powerful sensor when they can’t see with their eyes (Ruby). A pet mudkip will likely require a body of water to play and rest in, like a pond or a pool. Mud too! Just like their name suggests, these critters love mud (be prepared to mop your home a lot)! Obviously, this need isn’t something that every owner will be able to handle, but anyone experienced with water-types will find it to not be too large a hurdle.
Another thing to consider: mudkips are deceptively strong (X). They are said to not only be able to crush boulders larger than themselves with pure force (Sapphire), but to lift them (Emerald). This comes through in their moves as well. While mudkips boast the usual starter water-moves that you’d expect, they can also make use of some potentially dangerous rock-type moves like Rock Throw and Rock Slide to attack enemies with rocks, or moves like Rock Smash to break through tough defenses. Thankfully, considering their friendly demeanor and how one can pretty easily keep large rocks away from them, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Their strength, however, could present problems in a different way. For example, if you close the door to your room while you’re working, sleeping, etc. and they want to come inside, they could break it down pretty easily. They could rearrange or topple over furniture without much issue. Mudkips are a species that needs solid training once adopted as a pet.
While they do have habitat and training needs, mudkips are overall pretty good pet candidates. They are unfortunately not breaking the top-ten pokémon pets, but anyone determined enough to meet their needs could find a great (muddy) buddy in one!

Fun Pokémon game idea: an ultimate journey where you go through every region
Obviously since it’d be one continuous journey there’d have to be rewrites to account for time gaps in the plot (how would the floundering team rocket plot work if you went from kanto to johto five minutes ago? etc) but it’s not meant to be a remake compilation, it’s a whole new thing. I mean it’d be great if a vast majority of it is the same but yeah it’d need a lot of tweaking
Also, to make sure the file size is small enough to fit every region and every pokemon, I think the entire game should be 2d like the first several gens, maybe even all pixel art with the grid based movement system. I think models and 3d animation might make the game very big and laggy. Plus, it’d make the first several regions feel very authentic while giving an interesting spin on later regions (how would 2d [sword shield region I forgot ;-;] work? Overworld Pokémon in the wild areas? Maybe they’d also be sprites wandering around?)
I know having later regions be essentially downgraded would bother a lot of people, so maybe that’s a bad idea, but idk I think it’d be interesting! I like the way 2d ones look and play anyways (when I miss Pokémon I go straight for sapphire and heartgold lol) so it’s probably just a personal preference but still
If there were to be a two version split thing, I thought it’d be best to call them something like warm and cool or heat and chill. Maybe even light and dark, or something about intense reds and blues. The dichotomies used in the past felt like they could easily fit that sort of split
Warm/heat/light/crimson/etc: red, gold, ruby, pearl, white, x, sun, sword, scarlet
Cool/chill/dark/ultramarine/etc: blue, silver, sapphire, diamond, black, y, moon, shield, violet
(…I’m not a pokemon expert, idk if those are in order or if I forgot one lmfao)
Idk, obviously I’m not a game developer or serious pokemon connoisseur, I just had this idea and thought it’d be cool!

//woah… that’s cool.
//yeah, did
// yay :] yeah she doesn’t exist as a real person, she exists as a character in an anime. Which is like if the Pokemon anime had only anime exclusive characters and events. Also there’s a fictional team instead of rocket.

shiny cyndaquil in heartgold after 4332 starters seen! i haven’t gotten a full odds shiny in ages due to inactivity with the hobby so even though this hunt was short and casual, feels nice. i would have taken any of the starters but i’m definitely not complaining about cyndaquil
Tumblr media
i named him ashes after my first ever shiny, my typhlosion in crystal version! his name is Cinders and Ashes is basically the same thing haha
here he is in battle!
since i’m doing this playthrough with a friend and he’s stuck on the starters still, i’ll probably wait to actually play the game for a bit. but yeah

hi! may i ask how you're doing? we haven't heard from you in a while so i just wanted to check in :)
hi!! thanks for checking in!!!
So yeahhh… I kinda disappeared for like a month. I really should have said something, but I had some major internet social anxiety for a bit. (I did not even open tumblr once in the past month.) I was putting pressure on myself to post regularly, and it wasn’t happening, so I figured I just needed a little break.
It wasn’t exactly planned… It started out with me getting hyperfixated on playing Pokemon during my free time, and that became all I did outside of work. (Specifically, Pokemon Heartgold—my favorite pkmn game.)
I know no one asked for this, but I want to show off my team because I am very proud of them.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I have still been doing cool things related to Bruno! For one, I am decorating a Bruno ita bag!! And I’m so excited about how it looks! Here’s what I’ve got so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still want to do a little more with it though—for instance, I want to get some fairy lights to give it that attention-grabbing vibe. I also bought some sticker printer paper so I can print out clear stickers and put them on the bag, like his signature!! I’ll also probably add some hearts to the window too <3
So uh… do you guys think I can wear this thing out in public? 😅 (it’s definitely gonna be a con bag, and I’d really love to use it all the time, but would it be social suicide…?)
But I’m just so happy I finally have an ita bag for Bruno. This has been a dream of mine for the past few years, so I’ve been collecting stuff here and there, and I finally put it all together! EEEEEEEEEE 🥰
So yeah! THank you for checking in! I have missed you all. I think I’m just about ready to get back into answering questions and writing. YAYYYYY!!!
Tumblr media
thanks for the ask!!!!! <3

Hi Shima! You have a lot of Pokemon content on your page and I’m sorta curious about the like, world of Pokemon, so would you have any recommendations on what like game I should start with or what I should watch first? Thanks!
!!! YOOOOO OKAY I GOTCHU ANON. Buckle up bc my 20 years of being a Pokemon fan is about to kick in
As for where to start with the games--this is all really depending on how your own personal playstyle! Do you like games that are more easy going and light on plot? Or do you like ones with heavy amounts of story? Or do you prefer games that are a perfect blend of the two? Pokemon's got a mixed bag of all of the above so you really can't go wrong
If you're into that really nostalgia feel I'd recommend starting out with the first Pokemon game I ever played as a kid, which was Pokemon Emerald! You can actually play this for free by downloading a Gameboy Advance emulator and the Emerald ROM. I have a lot of fond memories of Emerald and it's still one of my favorite games to date. I actually even prefer Emerald over its remakes (Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) bc it just doesn't quite hit the same lol. I think even without having played Emerald as a kid it'll just spark that nostalgic feeling? It's that kind of game, at least to me :")
Going off of that if you REALLY want to hit nostalgia central and start where it all began, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen is also a good game to start out with. It's a remake of Pokemon Red/Blue, which were the first ever Pokemon games that were made. Personally I'm not a super huge Gen 1 fan bc I feel like it's been WAY overdone at this point (it's had two remakes already) but if you've never played a Pokemon game again it's definitely a good starting point. It's barely got any plot so it's really a game you can just dive into and enjoy without focusing too hard on the story. AND as an added bonus, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver is the direct sequel to Gen 1 (and a remake of the original Gold/Silver/Crystal) so I'd definitely play that one as well, it's lots of fun!
Of course I will also recommend Pokemon Black/White and Black 2/White 2, which is generation 5 and my FAVORITE mainline Pokemon games of all time. BW released right before the transition to the 3D games so it still has sprite art. It's a GORGEOUS game honestly and I think it's really well balanced with story VS gameplay. It's got great characters and fantastic design elements (with everything honestly like the Pokemon designs are great, the character designs are great, the city/town designs are great, etc) and the most KICKASS soundtrack ever (looking at you Driftveil City AKA Toothless dancing meme music). I could go on and on and on about Gen 5 for hours lmao I really hold it near and dear to my heart. Also it's one of the very few games that actually has a sequel which I LOVE. BW2 takes place two years after BW and I love the story and character progression 🥰
Shouting out Pokemon Platinum as well, I know it's a huge fan favorite and honestly I also love it very much!! Platinum came out before BW did so it's got that early DS era feel to it. It's got a decent plot and classic fun gameplay elements. Also Pokemon Legends Arceus which ties directly into Platinum as its prequel (but you should play Platinum first? I know it's confusing lol). PLA is SUPER fucking fun, it's got a completely different gameplay style and mechanic than regular Pokemon games, and it ties in with Platinum so well.
And to my last few recommendations -
Pokemon Sun and Moon!! There's mixed feelings about this one from a lot of people but it's one of my personal favorites...I think people dislike that it's so plot heavy, there's a LOT of dialogue even when starting the game so if you're not into that I wouldn't go with SM. But I LOVE games that are heavy with plot and SM just does it so well. The characterization is really well done and I love watching Lillie go through her development arc 🤧 But yeah it's SM NOT Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon which are like. The same games but Worse. USUM took SM's plot and stomped all over it so I would not go for those lol
And, of courseeee. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! These are the most recent mainline games to release and ohhh my god. Is the game laggy and bugged out as hell? Yes. Is it also fucking FANTASTIC and has made me cry multiple times? ALSO yes. If you don't mind occasional shitty graphics then please please PLEASE play SV. The open world aspect is a ton of fun, the new Pokemon designs are so charming, the characters are wonderful, and the STORY??? The plot literally blew my socks off the first time I played it. SV endgame you will always be the king of my heart. It's definitely heavier than any previous Pokemon game and it had me reeling for DAYS after. The story is just. So so so good. And we get a continuation of the story kicking ass in the DLC. I love SV to death it really redeemed Pokemon after the disaster that was gen 8 for me (and it's REALLY fun to shiny hunt in).
And LAST but certainly not least. My favorite Pokemon game of all time period ever in the history of Pokemon. Not a mainline game but a side/spinoff game--Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky!! If you want the classic Pokemon experience I probably wouldn't start with this since it's so different from the mainline games but I'd 10000% play it after finishing your first Pokemon game. It's a dungeon crawler, you get to BE a Pokemon, the music is phenomenal, the gameplay is phenomenal, the story is PHENOMENAL, everything about it is incredible and I will love this game until the day I die. I CANNOT recommend it enough. It's so so SO good and it means so much to me I can't even. Please play PMD Sky this goes to everyone who hasn't played it I prommy it's worth it
So basically:
Easy games with no/light plot: FRLG, Emerald, HGSS
Games with a perfect blend of actual gameplay and plot: BW/B2W2, Platinum, PLA
Games that hit HEAVY with plot/storyline: SM, SV, PMD Sky
Honestly you really cannot go wrong no matter where you start out. Even if it's with one of the games I DIDN'T personally recommend, all the mainline games have their own unique charm and each generation has its die hard fans (UNOVA GANG RISE). I've played all of them and they're all enjoyable!
As for the anime, my personal recommendations are the XY saga and the SM saga! The SM saga is my ultimate favorite, it's really cute and charming and fun, with some heavier plot arcs sprinkled in so it's a good blend between lighthearted stuff and more serious story. XY is VERY plot-heavy especially in the latter part, there's a lot of character development and crazy stuff going on, so I'd go for that one if you want to get hit hard with Feels. I haven't watched as much of the anime so I'm sure other people would recommend other seasons (I know the original saga, the Hoenn saga and the DP saga are fan favorites).
I'd also recommend watching the sub instead of the dub,, especially if you haven't grown up watching the Pokemon anime like me the dub is VERY hit or miss. I prefer subs as well bc the dub actually cuts out a LOT of stuff? I know for SM they had fun extra little bits at the beginning and ending of each episode that the dub just. Didn't include. For some reason? Like they'd cut out entire scenes. Idk. It's up to you either way tho ^^
And that is my introduction to Pokemon list.........if anybody has anything to add feel free! These are just my personal recommendations based off of what I like so naturally not everyone will agree lol. If you have any questions anon don't hesitate to ask, I'm always down to talk Pokemon. And I hope you have lots of fun playing whichever game you decide to go with!!

Twist
Silver x Reader
Genre: Fluff, Platonic/Romantic
Summary: You find your red-headed rival with a twisted ankle, and soon the cause.
(Started up a new play through of HeartGold, so inspiration came barreling in. And I’m a sucker for A gets hurt, B helps, and then vice versa scenarios)
~~~~~~
You were walking through the woods, map in hand, trying to find the next town when your Bayleef suddenly stopped and turned. It was still for a moment, before it began racing off.
“Bay! Bay!”
Your Bayleef was insistent that you follow it, carefully guiding you through trees and over ledges.
“What is it Bayleef? What did you hear?” You called after, stepping up to the ledge it stopped at and looking down.
The ledge dropped lower than most, and at the bottom sat a familiar red-head and his Quilava.
“Silver?”
Said boy jumped at the sound of your voice, an annoyed expression on his face when he looked up to see you.
“What do you want?” He griped, avoiding your gaze as if it would make him disappear from your view.
“Are you okay?” You asked, glancing around to find a way down.
“Do I look okay to you?”
His ankle sure didn’t.
“Hang on, okay? I’ll come down to help you!”
“I don’t need any help.” He grumbled, but didn’t make any moves to get away from you as you used Bayleef’s vines to help you down the ledge safely.
“So did you fall?” You crouched down by his ankle, carefully pushing back the pant sleeve.
“More or less.”
You were quick to dig out the first aid kit you kept in your bag, carefully tending to the twisted ankle.
“Lavvv.” His Quilava suddenly perked up, hissing at something in the trees. Your Bayleef jumped into action, skidding down the ledge and moving to stand guard in front of Silver’s weakened Quilava.
“What’s going on?” You asked, helping Silver get steady on his feet.
“Well—“
A thunderous crash broke through the trees, a slightly singed Rhydon breaking through the growth.
The rock type roared, and Quilava attempted an ember before your Bayleef shoved it away.
“Run!” You and Silver shouted in unison, you scooping up Quilava while Bayleef got Silver on its back.
“Bayleef! Use Razor Leaf!”
Bayleef turned its head, still running while aiming the attack behind it.
A pained roar sounded behind you, and then the sound of heavy footsteps fading. Your panicked pace slowed to a calmer one, Silver calling his Quilava back while Bayleef happily carried him.
“So you got chased by that Rhydon?”
“Yeah.” Silver replied curtly, avoiding your gaze. “And… thanks for the help, I guess.”
“You’re welcome.” You returned, knowing he was grateful in some capacity. “Now let’s get you and Quilava to a Pokémon Center, you both need it.”
It was raining hard, your Bayleef helping you navigate. It was just a bit further until the next town, then you could rest!
Rain pattered down on the rain coat your wore, what moonlight peeked through the clouds illuminated the shiny surface of leaves and rocks.
Lightning flashed above you, momentarily taking your vision in the sharp bright light, your foot stepped down and slid.
“Bayyy!”
You heard your Pokémon call after you, the sound of your tumbling drowning out everything else for a moment. You came to a stop on your back, a throbbing pain blooming in your ankle, duller pain everywhere else.
Just great. When did you get so close to that ledge anyway?
With a groan, you sat up, your back protesting to you. You glanced up at a scrambling down the ledge, expecting your Bayleef. Instead it was Silver, looking rather annoyed with you, as per usual. He wore a rain coat as well, navy to match his jacket.
“So I get hurt, and you think you can do the same, huh?”
“I didn’t fall on purpose!” You retorted, catching the slight smile on his face as lightning flashed.
“C’mon you.” He stepped forward, fingertips brushing over your ankle to check it over before reaching for your arms. “Just a sprain.”
You grabbed onto his arms, letting him tug you to your feet, both conscious of your ankle.
“Bayleef?” He called, letting you lean on him, “Can you lift us up?”
“Bay!”
In just a few seconds, you were up the ledge once again, and Silver was helping you into Bayleef’s back.
He then walked alongside you, helping Bayleef travel along a safer path for the both of you.
hello i am so in awe that you have collected all the pokémon games (i finished my collection of 3ds ones a bit ago but i considered a lot of the other ones out of reach) and i was wondering how long it took? i know especially the older remakes are insane to get so i’m super curious
(This got incredibly long i'm so sorry for the wall of text my guy)
In relation to this post
Hello there! :D
Believe me, I still can't believe it myself that I managed to pull it off considering who I had to get ahold of! Been happy dancing to myself ever since I got the last game~
God it feels like it was longer ago honestly, but I only really began trying to finish the Pokemon collection just a year ago! Had to check back in my DMs with my buddy, but the day I began to seriously search for the rest of the authentic generations was May 5th 2023, the day I discovered my copy of Platinum was a repoduction, ya watch ONE video regarding reals vs. fakes and it all went down from there when I looked over the ones I owned already, luckily Platinum was the only one who was fake ;w;
I had passively over the years been picking up games as I went, but from that day last year til recently I looked where I could for the games I was missing, to be fair I had about half the collection to begin with just from growing up and finding ones out and about, I only needed to find the pair of whatever I owned already, besides gen 5.... since I somehow never played gen 5 growing up. Funny enough I didn't have to look too far, every single game I found had all been local! Facebook marketplace saved me big time I just had to wait and compare prices til I was happy with what I was willing to pay for! I scrutinized every single copy I got my hands on and triple checked everything before I was satisfied XD
The 3DS titles were very easy to get thankfully, and the same goes for you too good on ya for getting your 3DS ones! Hardest for sure were gens 3-5, specifically ALL of gen 5 they are the WORST to get since no one wants to sell them and they're required to be able to move anyone forward to the 3DS and then to the Switch! I think It'd be easier to list who I owned and who I hunted for in the year of the search.
So I owned:
Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Leafgreen, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, X, Alpha Sapphire, Moon, UltraSun, Sword, Violet and Arceus (some I had gotten as gifts growing up and others I had gotten through yardsaling and thrifting by chance as I grew up, Emerald was 70 at a yardsale!)
The ones I got from the year of the hunt:
Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, Platinum, Heartgold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, Y, Omega Ruby, Sun, UltraMoon, Shield, Lets Go Pikachu, Lets Go Eevee (I DID own Eevee before but traded it in before the hunt) Scarlet, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl.
Now knowing who I had to get, we all know it costs a pretty penny, so I essentially sold things myself to fund the hunt, like my amiibos I didn't really need or want, a handful of random collectable things I picked up and kept over the years (notably a masterchief helmet from the legendary collection I got for free like 10 years ago lol) and some odds and ends I didn't need anymore and to declutter the home! I think out of my own pocket I only paid maybe 40 bucks total so I paid for everyone that way! It was all mostly luck finding everyone and keeping an eye on marketplace, and some of them I had gotten from folks I knew! Black and Black 2 actually came from one of my managers at work who sold them to me for insanely cheap, and Sapphire I got for free as I mentioned in the games post XD
If you do try to go for the complete collection, I say have a gameplan for how to pay and build that piggybank of funds, go for what you can afford! So if you see a game without a case thats usually better, you dont NEED a case or have a game CIB really, a bunch of mine dont have a case or box and I'm alright with that! Look locally at second hand stores, vintage ones, marketplace or any other local yardsale or fleamarket type thing you may have in your area, and I say this with caution, but if you HAVE to, you can consider ebay, but I strongly suggest not to when it comes to the games. I had originally tried to get a Brilliant Diamond copy from there and well, dude never sent it at all and got my money (ebay fully refunded me but that still bites). And finally get well versed in learning how to authenticate to the best of your abilities, 3DS and switch I don't think can be faked but everything else can be! I used this as my guide to figure out who was real and fake in my search and it worked very very well! Twas my bible of knowledge
End of the day it didn't take as long as one would think, but luck played a HUGE roll in this endeavor, I was smart with my money, and I was very very VERY stubborn and wanted them all XD
If you go for the complete collection like I did then I wish you the best of luck my friend! And thank you very much for the ask! It kinda got away from me while typing but yeah thats the story and process of how I got all the main series titles!
