Cancer Battle
Tom Holland x Sister (with the whole Holland clan)
Summary: The reader is diagnosed with cancer, but decides to keep it from her brothers.
Warnings: angst, cancer treatment, cancer diagnosis, brothers being rude, somewhat of a fluff ending
A/N: I did research on this. I hope I did the correct research. So I apologize if I’m wrong.
MASTERLIST
This has been the toughest two months of your life. Right when you were due to go over to America with your brothers to visit Tom, you noticed swelling in your neck. So did your mum. She set you up a doctors appointment, and two days later, you found out you had Hodgkin Lymphoma.
After talking with your doctor, you found you were in the early stages. It was still treatable and your chances of beating the cancer were very high. That helped you relax a little, but you were still in shock at hearing the words, “you have cancer.”
You wanted to start treatment right away so you told your brothers to go without you. They weren’t happy with you since you wouldn’t give them the real reason as to why you were staying behind. Every Wednesday morning for the next month, you would go with your mum or dad to the doctors office to do your antibody therapy treatment. You really didn’t want to do chemo or radiation unless it got worse, so you decided this was the next best option.
After four weeks of treatment, all of your brothers came home. Tom was disappointed you didn’t come see him, but he knew you probably had a good reason. He decided to come over to your parents house to hangout with you today. Except today wasn’t a good day. You were sick due to the side effects of the treatment. To those who didn’t know about your treatment, they would just think you had the flu. So when you walked back into your room from the bathroom, you groaned when you saw Tom sitting on the end of your bed.
“Good to see you too, Y/N.” Tom said with an eye roll.
“Hi Tom. Sorry. You might want to leave, I’m sick.” You said trying to keep your distance but you were wanting to lie down so bad.
“Mum told me. Can I get you anything?” He asked sweetly.
“I’m okay for now. Dad went to the store this morning.” You replied and motioned with your finger for him to move. He understood and moved toward your door as you went to lie down. You sighed, content when your body hit the mattress.
“I’m going to go downstairs. Text me if you need anything.” You smiled at him. “Get better soon.”
The next few days, you started feeling better. This is how it was every week. Stuck in bed on Thursday and Friday. Moving around more on Saturday and fully back to your normal self on Sunday. Then you would repeat the process again.
This Wednesday though, you weren’t feeling good. It felt like you couldn’t catch your breath. You had a fever and you could tell you had lost at least twenty pounds since your diagnosis. You got up earlier than normal to talk to your mum. When you walked into the living room, you found all four brothers.
“Hey Y/N. You okay?” Sam asked.
Ignoring his question, you looked around the room. “Where’s mum and dad?”
“Dad has a meeting at ten and mum ran to the store really quick. Said she would be back soon.” Paddy said not looking up from his phone. You nodded and turned to go back to your room to lay down until you had to go to your appointment.
“It’s a good thing you're up though. I have a press tour coming up and we are going to Bali. The three of them are going and I wanted to see if you wanted to come. You didn’t get to go last time so I thought you would enjoy it.” Tom said.
“I would but uh..” You looked around trying to think of an excuse as to why you can’t go. “I’m still getting over this sickness. Wouldn’t be good for me to go.”
“Well good thing it isn’t until next month then.” Harry said with a laugh before he turned serious. “Why are you always bailing on us? You missed the last Bali trip. You skipped last minute to go to America. Now you’re trying to get out of going to Bali again. What’s up with that?”
“I just have a lot going on. It’s not that I don’t want to, I just can’t.” You said.
“Harry has a point though Y/N. It’s like you don’t like us or something. You never go out with us when we are in town either and you won’t let us post photos of you.” Paddy said.
You stood shocked. You didn’t know how to respond, but it didn’t matter since it didn’t seem that your brothers were done.
“Can you tell us if we did something to you so we can fix it?” Tom said trying to be the nice brother like always.
“Come on mate. We didn’t do anything and she knows it. She just hates us.” Harry said with a snarl.
“Must be embarrassed by us. I don’t know why. People love us.” Paddy said. Sam agreed with Paddy and Harry. Tom just didn’t know what to do so he just stayed quiet. He wasn’t trying to make you feel bad, but he did feel rejected by you lately.
“I love you guys and I would never be embarrassed of you. I just have a lot going on.” You said. You were getting worked up and it was making it harder to breathe. You turned and started to leave the room. “Tell mum to come to my room when she gets home.” You started to walk up the stairs and ignored the hateful comments your brothers were whispering about you.
An hour later. Your mum came into the room and saw you laying there asleep. She went to push your hair out of your face and felt how hot you were. She immediately started to panic and tried to wake you up. Thankfully you opened your eyes halfway and saw your mum.
“Mum, somethings not right. I don’t feel good.” You whispered.
“Get up honey. We are going to the doctor.” Nikki said in a rush. She went to help you stand when you fell on the ground. Nikki was worried because you couldn’t hold yourself up. “DOM!” She yelled. “DOM HURRY UP! COME HERE!”
Tom thought he heard his mum call for him and he heard the worry in her voice so he sprinted to where he heard her trying to talk to Y/N. He was shocked when he saw you on the floor.
“Tom I need your help. We have to get her to the hospital now. Help me get her to the car.” Nikki said. Tom stayed staring at your almost lifeless body “TOM!” Nikki snapped to get his attention. Tom immediately went into protective brother mode and ran to you and easily picked you up bridal style and carried you down to Nikki’s car. He laid you in the backseat and then he joined you by putting your head into his lap. Nikki ran to the driver's seat and rushed to the hospital.
“Mum, what’s wrong with her?” He asked.
“I’m not sure.” Nikki answered honestly. If it hadn't been for the swollen glands, Nikki would have thought you were healthy as a horse. Now with the treatments, it always pained her to see her only daughter struggling with the illness. Once they got to the emergency room, Nikki started telling the ER doctor everything. Tom paled when he heard the word cancer. He looked up at his mum to see if what she said was true. When the doctors took you in the back to run test, Nikki finally turned to her oldest and saw him shaking.
“Cancer?” He whispered. If Nikki hadn’t been standing so close, she wouldn’t have heard him. She gently wrapped an arm around Tom and guided him to sit in a chair. Tom stayed latched to his mum as he cried for his little sister. “Wha- how- when? When did she find out?” Tom asked many minutes later once he stopped crying.
“Before the America trip.” Nikki said. “She’s been doing treatments once a week since. The treatments make her sick. That’s why you found her like she was last Thursday.”
“I had no idea.” Tom said more to himself. “That’s why she didn’t want to go to Bali.”
“Yeah. She wants to stay home until the cancer’s gone. She has a high survival rate, Tom. She didn’t want any of you to worry. That’s why she didn’t tell you.”
As Tom went to say something a doctor interrupted. “Mrs. Holland, Y/N is in a room now. You can go sit with her while we wait for the results. Since Dr. Hammon is the one treating her, she will be here to overlook her during her stay.” Nikki nodded and grabbed Tom’s hand. They followed the doctor to Y/n's room where she looked so tiny on her bed. She had an IV in and was sleeping soundly.
“We gave her some medicine to bring her fever down. She should wake up soon.”
“Thank you doctor.” Nikki said as he walked away. She turned to Tom, “I’m going to go call your father. Sit with her please.”
“Of course.” Tom said before grabbing your hand and sitting in the chair next to your bed. Tom grabbed his phone with his other hand. He quickly added Harry, Sam, and Paddy to a group text.
T: Hospital. Room 135. Waiting on the results for Y/N. We need to talk.
H: WTF?! Is she okay? Is that where you went. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.
T: Yeah. Had to help mum. Just hurry. She should have everyone here for her.
S: Called into work and got the day off. Will be there soon.
P: Harry and I are on our way too. Be there shortly.
By the time all the brothers arrived, Dom was walking into the room as well. Nikki had already spoken with Dr. Hammon and got the news of why Y/N reacted that way. Nikki decided now was the time to tell everyone the severity of it.
“Okay guys. Y/N wanted to keep this a secret, but I no longer can. She has Hodgkin Lymphoma. Her and I noticed swelling in her neck before she was going to the states so I took her to the doctor. She was diagnosed a couple days later. That’s why she didn’t go with you boys on the trip. She’s been undergoing treatment every week to help kill the cancer.” Nikki said looking at all of her sons. “I just talked with the doctor. The bad news is she doesn’t think the antibody therapy is working. She thinks it would be best to try chemotherapy next so the cancer doesn’t spread. The good news is, the cancer hasn’t spread.”
Dom visibly relaxed at hearing that news. He was thankful you were as okay as you could be. “Did she say why she reacted this way. Why did she almost pass out?” Dom asked.
“She said her body was working in overdrive to kill the cancer cells. Her fever got too high. Now that her fever is down, she’ll be back to her old self.”
“Old self?” Tom scoffed. “Mum she’s been sick more times than she’s been feeling okay. There’s no old self in that.”
“This is her new normal for a bit. Until she defeats the cancer, this is her old self.” Nikki responded.
You groaned and tried to open your eyes. Nikki and Dom rushed to one side as Tom rushed to your other. Tom ran his hand over your head. You turned and slowly opened your eyes and met Tom’s brown ones.
“What happened? Where am I?” You asked, confused.
“Your fever got too high. Me and mum rushed you here. You’re okay now.” Tom said. You turned to see your mum next to you with your dad.
“They know sweety.” She said. You closed your eyes for a second and turned to look at Tom again.
“I’m sorry for keeping this from you.” You said.
“Don’t be. I’m just glad you’re okay now. And I’ll be here every step of the way to help you fight.” He kissed your forehead. The rest of your brothers came up to you.
“I’m sorry Y/N/N for saying you hated us.” Harry said.
“I’m sorry too.” Sam said.
“I’m sorry as well.” Paddy said.
“It’s okay you guys. I’m sorry for not telling you. Just didn’t want you to worry. You guys have a lot going on in your life. Didn’t need to add this to the list of things you were stressing over.”
“We will always worry about you, healthy or not. You’re my baby sister. I never want you to think you have to go through something like this alone.” Tom said.
“I’ll sit with you at treatments.” Harry said.
“I’ll hangout with you when you don’t feel well at home.” Paddy said.
“I’ll make all of your favorites and I’ll make you soup.” Sam said.
You smiled at your brothers and thanked them. You were glad you had such an amazing support group to back you in this fight.

Flowers - Nicolas Brown x Reader
(( Special thanks to my fren, @ittokan , for fangirling with me over Gangsta, and I truly hope you start writing for this fandom and all the others that you love, without feeling pressured or anything! <3 ))
“Worick?” Alex’s soft voice asked in curiosity as she noticed there were many vases around the house, filled with lots of colourful flowers. “Yes, Ally?” the platinum haired man lit up a cigarette, looking at the girl with a mischievous smile - He knew what she wanted to ask. “What’s with...All the flowers? Every day they keep adding up...What’s the occasion? I-I’m not saying they’re not beautiful, they are! And they smell gorgeous, it’s a really nice change to this place...But what’s with the sudden change?” she perked up, sniffing a blue flower. “Well, Ally, do you know who bought them?” Worick asked, exhaling, letting smoke come out of his mouth. “You bought them, right? Or are they from Nina?” Alex blinked in confusion, not understanding where the man was going to. “Nope. You’re wrong to the core. Care to try again?” the man chuckled, incredibly amused as he saw her eyes widen in shock “Don’t tell me...Nic bought them?!” she gasped, not comprehending the logic behind it. “You’ve got it right! Nic got them! All 7 vases, and all the different 5 coloured flowers.” he flicked the cigarette softly to get the burnt area out of the window. “But...Why? I didn’t see him as a guy who’d like flowers that much as to waste his money on them?” the girl tilted her head to the side, looking like a confused puppy. “You and me both, Alex! But I assure you, he doesn’t know that either. Buuuuut he knows something that you don’t~! Wanna know what it is?” Worick put out the cig, putting his arm around her shoulders, getting closer to her face. “What is it? Why is Nic buying flowers?!” she asked impatiently, not even caring that she’s so close to the man. “Nicolas is in loooooove~!” the blue eyed man cheered loudly, making the girl squeal in shock at the sudden loud noise, before realising what he just said. “WHAT?!” she gasped, not believing what she just heard. “Yeeees, you heard that right! Nic has a crush on the flower girl! She’s a reaaal cutie, I’m telling you...But not really my style. I’ve talked to her once, she’s perfect for him.” he grinned widely, seeing the girl’s curiosity. “I had no idea there was a flower shop around!” she scratched the back of her head sheepishly. “Well, I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s only one, but thankfully, she sells for both Twilights and Non-Twilights alike. What a sweet girl. Nic mentioned she started learning sign language for him, and she got a little white table with colourful markers. I’m sure you’d like her.” he winked at her, making her smile softly. “It would be nice to see them together one day. Think he’d ever bring her around?” she asked excitedly. “Nahhh, no way. This place is a dump. She’s sunshine incarnated, she deserves better. Oh, and, she’s a doctor working here because this was her mother’s shop or something like that.” he spoke as a matter of fact. “Woaw, a doctor...She must be so smart. Is she like Dr. Theo?” Alex was full of questions of this young woman that managed to capture the rough man’s heart. “Who knows? We’ll see, I guess. Unless...You want to spy on them one day.” Worick winked at her, nodding towards her to follow. “Come on, I have something to get from her since Nic can’t make it today.”
The h/c girl made a little braid on the side of her long hair as she read a new medical book she received yesterday, a soft smile evident on her face as the sunlight gently illuminated her face. Soft jazz music was heard throughout the little parlor and the mesmerising perfume of the infinite flowers was almost drunkening.
She didn’t even realise someone came in the shop, until the man greeted her with a friendly “Yoooo!” as if they’ve been friends since childhood.
“Oh, hello! Sorry I didn’t notice you, I got a bit too absorbed in this book. I’m Y/N, it’s very nice to see new faces around!” her grin was so dazzling that it almost made Alex blush. “It’s great to meet you too. I’m Worick and this is Alex. We’ve come here to pick something up, since my friend couldn’t come today. Know what I’m talking about?” he leaned on the counter, and just as he mentioned that friend, he saw a beautiful spark glow in her e/c eyes. “Oh, you’re Nic’s friends! I’m so happy to meet his friends, he spoke so fondly of you! I’ll give you the flowers in a sec, please wait!” she spoke enthusiastically, rushing in the back of the parlor to pic them up. “Told ya she’s a beauty.” Worick nudged the flustered woman as the owner of the shop came with a beautiful bouquet of blue hibiscus. “Here you go! I hope he likes them. Tell Nic I said hi, okay?” she handed the man the bouquet of blue flowers. “Red, orange, yellow, green, blue...Now indigo...These are the colours of the rainbow!” Alex gasped in realisation, making Y/N grin even wider. “Oh, yes, that’s exactly it! I promised Nic I would help him find out what’s his favourite colour and flower, so every day, I’d give him a bouquet of flowers, each day, a different colour of the rainbow. I’m so happy that someone realised that!” she clapped her hands enthusiastically. “He has 7 different vases at home, and in all of them, there are flowers of different colours, that’s how I realised. They are so beautiful!” Alex took a sniff of them, a smile forming on her face. “Aww, I’m so happy you like them! Hmm...Ah, I’ve got this! Wait a second...Wait a second...And this...A little bow...And here! This is for you! Blue orchids. They represent delicate beauty, power and stability. I think that suits you a lot, especially since they are the same colour as your eyes!” the girl’s eyes smiled with genuine emotion, as Alex could only stare at her with genuine shock. “N-No, I-I-I couldn’t possibly-...I have no money and-...” she kept ranting on, but the h/c girl only shook her head. “Don’t worry, it’s a gift. Any friend of Nic is definitely a nice person, so I don’t mind! Besides, I keep this place more as an emotional thing, since this was mum’s. All my money actually come from my other profession, so I’m not going to get broke by gifting flowers, you know?” she giggled softly, making the other girl blush even more. “Th-Thank you...Y/N. They are gorgeous. Thank you.” was the only think she could say, holding the flowers close to her. “Well, Ally, we have to go. Thanks for today, Y/N, see you around. Oh, and...Take care of Nic for me, will ya?” Worick winked at the girl, who only nodded and waved.
As the pair walked out of the place, Worick lit up his cigarette, looking up at the sky with a soft smile.
“So, Ally, what do you think of our new friend?” he asked with a tint of amusement in his voice. “I can see why Nic likes her. She’s so beautiful and bright...She is someone that this city needs. Do you think her smile is contagious? I think it is...I hope Nic gets to smile genuinely too.” the girl looked down with a soft smile at the flowers.
The end of the day soon arrived, and along with it, the end of the book that the girl was reading so attentively. When making gifts for people she cared about, she wanted to be 100% informed so as to not make any mistakes, but with this, there was no way she could possibly fail.
She wasn’t sure why she was willing to invest so much time and money on a gift for a person she just met barely a few day prior, but there was something in her heart that burned, screaming at her to do just that and not hesitate.
Y/N has always been a highly rational person, preferring to choose her brain over her feelings, which is possibly why she has always been alone. She never saw herself as an overly sociable person, but she didn’t think she was that disagreeable or intimidating, so the reason why people would treat her like a ghost unless they needed something truly irritated her endlessly, so she decided not to bother with people again.
It was bad enough that her mother, her only true friend, died, and her only family alive was her sister, who was a mean girl with some kind of personal vendetta against the Tags, only for the sake of being discriminatory.
Her trust in people went down the drain further when she experienced how even the people she would call “boyfriends” were nothing more than selfish nuisances that had to be completely cut off.
She completely dedicated herself to her work and to the little flower shop, re-naming it after her mother, so as long as she was surrounded by all the loving animals at the clinic and could be surrounded by flowers, as long as her pets would greet her every day in her gorgeously furnished house with the money that she worked so hard for, and as long as she could travel the world and see all the beauty that life has to offer...
Then she could live without others.
Well, that was quickly shattered when she met the man called Nicolas Brown, a deaf man that came by to buy flowers to gift Nina, the little nurse who helps Dr. Theo, since it was her birthday and he had no idea what to give her that she would actually like.
She didn’t know sign language, so she proposed to write on paper to understand everything, despite the man insisting that he can read her lips perfectly well. Y/N, as soon as she heard about Nina, knew exactly what to give the man, and even thanked him for taking care of the little ball of sunshine, which made him blink at her in surprise, then leave.
She thought that was the end of it, that she’d never see him again, and that was it.
Boy, was she wrong.
The next day, he came by her parlor again, but this time, with no actual reason. He just stared at her awkwardly, looking left and right, scratching at his cheek with his finger, trying to come up with some conversation idea, but he wasn’t used to conversing with anyone, so he just stood there.
Luckily for him, the girl started asking about his favourite colours and flowers, which made them both realise he never even thought of such trivial things...But it was nice to not have to think about fights, death and problems, and just stay calmly to look at flowers...And just...Be mundane.
Much to the girl’s glee, Nicolas’s visits became frequent, so the girl offered to help him find out his favourite flowers and colours, but really, all she wanted was to spend more time with him, because, for the first time in ages, she could feel her heart moving like never before.
She felt alive around Nicolas.
She even bought a little whiteboard with lots of colourful markers so they could write as creatively and colourful as they wanted, encouraging him to try out anything he wanted.
Seeing that he was pretty interested in these little things, she bought him those adult anti-stress and anxiety colouring books with flowers and got him tons of crayolas and markers in all shades existent, letting him hang around and colour whatever he wanted.
Much was her surprise when he asked her to draw one page while he drew the other, which made her cheeks get a tint rosier from happiness.
On the free time between colouring, she would learn sign language and would get help from him to perfect it, because she was so sloppy and messy at the beginning that she somehow managed to tell Nic to kiss his own face with a chair, which made him laugh quite a lot.
Very soon, the end of the 7 days came by, and she had to choose the last flower, a violet one, but what could she give him to make it have a lasting impression...
Oh, of course, easy question!
She waited anxiously for the man to arrive as she made the bouquet be more beautiful than ever before, then went to the counter to look through a fashion magazine she had laying around, and when evening came and the Sun started to set, the man arrived, looking a bit tired, but his expression softened as soon he laid his eyes upon her peaceful visage.
She raised her face, looking at him with big, sparkly doe eyes, only to realise it was him, which made her quickly jump to her feet and get in front of him, and to him, she looked so bright that he thought he was staring at the Sun.
Nicolas signed slow enough for her to understand that he couldn’t stay for too long, so she nodded and got the bouquet, handing it to him gently, with a sad smile.
“Do you like them?” Y/N asked, also signing to make sure he understands what she was saying. “Yes. What are they called?” he signed slowly, gazing at the small flowers. “They are called Forget-Me-Not flowers. They are most usually given to people that you don’t want to get forgotten by.” the girl blushed faintly, as she noticed his eyes grow bigger, than looking away, scratching the back of his head. “I...Could never forget you.” he spoke out loud for the first time, making the girl’s heart beat faster than ever before. “You have a beautiful voice. I wish you’d speak more.” she smiled tenderly at him, which only made his cheeks flare up. “Wanna go for a walk?” he asked again, extending his hand towards the girl. “I’d love that.” she quickly closed the shop, taking her purse and intertwining her fingers with his, they started walking around the town aimlessly.
This supposed ‘Aimless’ wasn’t, however, as random as she thought, as Nic guided her to one of the tallest buildings in town, and without too much warnings, expect telling her to hold tightly to him, he started jumping from wall to wall until they got on top, where they could see the Sun setting down, and the sky being painted in a myriad of colours.
They sat down on the edge of the roof, dangling their feet, still holding hands, enjoying the peaceful silence that engulfed them, until he started speaking again.
“I don’t know what my favourite colour is. The rainbow is nice. But this is nice too.” Nic slurred slowly, making the girl look at him with a gentle look in her eyes. “Nature paints everything with the most beautiful colours. Don’t you want to see the world? See all the beauty that it has to offer?” she asked with a smile on her face. “I’m a Tag, I can’t leave this place.” he signed, his eyes looking at her with a certain kind of hurt that broke her heart. “Actually, there are exceptions. I read the law, they say that a single Twilight can leave this place if a Non-Twilight vouches for them and stays with them at all times.” she smiled even brighter as she saw his eyes widen in shock. “Really?” he signed, as she nodded vigurously. “Then...Where do you want to go first?” Nic offered her a mischievous smirk, making her throw her arms around him. “You’re gonna love it!” she exclaimed, as she felt his arms slowly engulf her in a warm embrace. “Your voice...Is beautiful.” he murmured, barely comprehensible. “What do you mean?” Y/N asked, looking at him with curious eyes. “Your voice’s vibrations are...Warm and soothing.” he explained, burying his face in her hair, drawing her closer to his chest.
Her chest was glued to his, and she could feel his heart beating so fast, so loud, mimicking hers, almost as if they were beating in sync, as one. The emotions they felt were explosive, so powerful, something so pure and warm that was meant to put an end to all of their previous suffering and distress, all the betrayal, the disappointment, the anger and sorrow they’ve ever experienced.
The embrace lasted for them like a whole timeline ending, and after they pulled apart, timidly looking at each other’s eyes, they leaned in, her hands on his shoulders, while one of his was on the back of her head, while the other was cupping one of her cheeks, their lips met in a soft kiss, almost as if afraid that the other would disappear.
But soon, all the emotions their hearts harboured were unleashed, pulling each other closer, the kiss deepening, warmth and love emanating from both of them like never before.
Love
A feeling that neither of them ever hoped to genuinely feel again, and yet, here they were, fate having brought them together to fulfill destiny and mend each other’s wounds.
They stood on the edge of the roof for a few more hours, watching as the Sun went completely down and stars embellished the dark sky with beautiful diamonds sparkling and twinkling endlessly, while the silver light of the Mother Moon was guarding them with her healing light.
----
Nicolas’s birthday came sooner than expected, but for some reason, he forgot about it. Well, it’s not a surprise, that boy had no sense of self-worth, the girl quickly realised, so she naturally took the role of a nurturing and always-attentive girlfriend for him, wanting to make sure he takes care of himself properly.
But today was the day...
Today was Nicolas’s birthday.
Well, not yet, really, as it was not yet midnight, but the way he lay on the girl’s bed while watching TV absent-minded made it easy for Y/N to sneak to the other room and bring the man’s gift without him realising.
When the clock was 12 sharp, she turned on the light and putting the box on the table, making sure he wouldn’t get what it was, he dragged him into a sitting position on the edge of the bed, and she could barely resist his confused puppy face.
“Can you close your eyes and only open them when I kiss you?” she signed fast, excitement obvious on her face. “Why?” he asked in a low, confused voice. “It’s a surprise!” the girl booped her nose, only for him to stick out his tongue at her, like a puppy would blep, making her giggle at how cute he looked, kissing him to close his eyes.
She then took the box and took out the hearing devices, gently sitting on his lap and adjusting them to his ears, before caressing his face and giving him a passionate kiss like never before.
“What did you do?” he signed, still smiling from the kiss.
Instead of answering right away, the girl showed him the box that had “HEARING AIDS” written with huge letters, which only made his eyes widen in shock.
“Say something. I want to hear you.” he signed fast, not wanting his voice to be the first thing he hears. “I love you, Nic.” she said, her soft hands resting on his rough visage, and the love she saw in his eyes, hearing her velvety voice that soothed his heart and soul, for the first time... “I love you too, Y/N.” he spoke, cringing a bit at his own voice, but...He missed on so much not hearing her voice. “How...Why...?” his voice was trembling from all the emotions he felt, all at once, flooding him. “It’s your birthday. You are a good person, Nic. You deserve to have your hearing back. So...Happy birthday, sweetheart. I love you.” she kissed his forehead softly, as he quickly threw his arms around her, rolling on the bed, to be able to hold her tighter to him. “I don’t deserve you, Y/N. I really don’t. But thank you...And don’t ever leave me. I love you, Y/N.” he forced himself to speak more, knowing very well that he’ll have to work on his speaking to make it normal, at least to some degree. “You deserve the world, darling, and don’t worry, I’ll never leave you. I promise.” she cooed gently at him, playing with his hair soothingly. “I was right...You truly have the most beautiful voice in the world.” he muttered, closing his eyes to prevent any tear to escape his eyes.
He knew he didn’t deserve such a wonderful woman in his life, but he wasn’t going to deny anything, especially not her pure and genuine love for him. He was going to treasure her and make sure she knows she is the most special person in the world for him.
Because...
Nicolas Brown loves Y/N L/N with all his heart.

Here I am again, on the floor, begging him to stop. There he is again, laughing at my pleas and forcing himself inside of me. Almost every night he climbs into my bed, then in the morning, he pretends everything is normal. When anyone is around, he acts charming. He is able to trick everyone into thinking everything is fine. Well, it's not.
My phone buzzed to life at the side of me. The alarm was going off but I had been up for hours, staring at the flecks of dust dancing around the air. The sunlight streamed in through my thin, white drapes. It was beautiful out. It was the middle of May and bound to be hot out in Arizona. I could feel the warmth on my skin already. I needed to shower and get all this sticky sweat off my skin. It wasn't even mine. I felt disgusting. His touch lingered everywhere on me. The bruises he gave me stained my skin more than the self inflicted cuts.
'Morning Ms. y/l/n. Last night was lovely. See you at lunch?'. It was a text from Mr Reid. He was my psychology professor. Older than me, at thirty, he had long dark hair and deep brown eyes. His hair curled slightly at the end. He was tall and slim. Smart and nerdy, having two degrees and a doctorate, he left his job at the FBI for something less mentally draining. He had worked there since he was twenty-two. I was twenty-one making our age gap quite small. Look at me, trying to convince myself that it even mattered. He was a lovely guy. Friendly, and handsome. He wouldn't fall in love with a student, and if he did, that student would never be me. He was too smart for that.
"Morning Dr. Reid. Thank-you for taking me. It was a fun eve! Yes, see you at lunch. We can have a chat about the stuff we saw yesterday =)". I read the message over and over again before hitting send. I was nervous as I usually always say stupid things. My low self esteem affected me very much. I was twenty-one, already with one degree and going back to do another. I was still living at Sharon's and I haven't had a boyfriend. He texted me back instantly.
"Can't wait! Need a lift to school? =)" I smiled down at my battered iPhone 6. I couldn't afford a brand new phone. I was lucky in that I only had to work a few hours a week at the local book store and that it was something I enjoyed doing. Sharon was good to me. She helped me pay for and make my way through college. I don't know what or where I would be without her. On the other hand, she brought the human spawn of the devil into my life.
"No thnx, Luna is picking me up =)" I sent but then instantly regretted it. I love my best friend but I would have preferred a ride with Dr. Reid. Our conversations were always interesting and insightful. We could talk about a wide range of subjects for hours and it would only feel like minutes passed.
"Ok, see u soon Y/N"
I smiled, almost forgetting my problems before catching glimpse of myself in the mirror. My fragile, battered body stared back. I sighed. He could never find a girl like me attractive. Not that it mattered anyway. Silly little girl crush.
After debating whether it was best to just find the nearest bridge in town and throw my self off or get ready for school (I am very mentally unwell), I decided on the latter. Luna had already texted me to inform me that she was about to set off. Knowing Luna, which I have had the pleasure of knowing for fifteen years (no sarcasm in there), ten minutes would be ten years.
I staggered down the dreaded stairs, almost losing my footing a few times, feeling light headed. I entered the brightly lit kitchen. It was so bright that I could feel an aching behind my eyes. The decor was simplistic, all white with gold features. Classic business mom who is never home asthetic going on.
Sharon sat at the island, face absorbed in her laptop. She was in her late forties with short, mousey hair. I believe she would be referred to as a 'Karen'. She looked nothing like Dom. She was short, like me, and fairly slim. He was tall and muscular with broad shoulders. Quarterback star player with the strength to show for it. He could snap us both in half. Dominic is Sharon's only child. Yes, that is correct. She is not my mum. I lost her.
Sharon looked up at me, flashing me a warm smile, still bashing the keys to her MacBook. She took a sip of her black coffee, nibbling on some cold toast. "You look like shit" she stated; matter of factly, her face blank. '"Thanks?'" I answered with a raised eyebrow. I walked over to the coffee machine and put in a pod, sticking my travel cup underneath. 77Kcals of goodness. All the fuel I will need this morning. "Sweetheart, don't act like that. You know I'm just saying. You need to sleep more" '"I know" I sighed. It was true... "But that makes two of us" I retorted cheekily with a grin. "Oh sweetheart, don't I know it" she raised her cup as if toasting the comment before gulping the last bit of coffee.
Sharon was my guardian, though not anymore as I was an adult and of drinking age. She still cared for me though as if I were her own. My mom died when I was seven and my dad had a breakdown. He couldn't cope. One day I came home from school and he was gone. He didn't say a word to anyone. He packed up his stuff and left me. I hated him for a while. The anger within me burned to my core. After a while I felt sympathy. He didn't get the help that he needed. If he did then we both wouldn't be in this mess. We'd be happy - together. I doubt he would know how to contact me now.
Aunt Sharon took me in. She wasn't really my aunt, she was my mom's best friend. She was the only connection to my mother that I had left besides her wedding ring. She loved her dearly and I believe she loves me dearly too. It's not her fault she can't protect me. She works herself to death trying to help me live my dreams. Dom wasn't the child that she had always wanted. He is doing nothing with his life. That is something I will alway's respect of her, single mom raising her child and somebody else's.
I loved her, though she did have the tendency to dish out tough love which often was way - way too harsh. And she was always away leaving me with him. I knew that if I'd only just tell her what he was capable of... What he would do to me when she left... She'd have murdered him herself with her bare hands. But it would kill her. I couldn't do that to her. He was the only thing she had who was blood. Me, I had no-one.
"shit! Is that the time? I'm going to be late. I gotta go, honey. Say bye to Dom for me." she pleaded as she stuffed the last slice of toast in her mouth and gathered her briefcase and her keys. " ...And make sure you have something to eat. You're wasting away!" "Have a good day at work Shaz" I shouted after her. I doubt that she heard me. She was out the door in seconds, jangling her keys and fighting between speaking with me and the ringtone on her work mobile. I heard her professional, scripted 'Hello, Sharon Cormack speaking' as the door slammed behind her.
I made my way through the spotless kitchen Gina, Sharon's housekeeper, always did a good job. I grabbed a bottle of water out of the integrated refrigerator. I also grabbed my iced latte from the coffee machine. It was almost half eight. My first classes start at nine and Luna still wasn't anywhere in sight. I scrambled through my purse for my phone, ready to give her a piece of my mind. That girl would be late to her own funeral.
"You're up early" a voice from behind me sneered. It took all my might to not to curl up in a ball, trembling.
"I... I have school"
No reply. I felt him creeping up behind me, felt his breath against my neck.
"I can think of something much better to do with the day baby" he whispered as he planted acid kisses on my neck. It burned. I squeezed my eyes shut, putting my hands up defensively. He pushed my back into the counter. A sharp pain ran though me.
"Please stop. I have to go" I whispered as his hand snaked its way up my neck, fist knotting tightly in my hair.
'"Why do you think a whore like you has the right to tell me what to do, hm?"
'- Hello? Katy?' Luna's smooth voice called out in sing song.
Oh, thank god for her and her timing. He released me from his grasp and increased the distance between us. His eyes were clouded. I could tell he was pissed. I brushed passed him, running towards Luna, who was standing by the open door. I ran straight into her arms hugging her tightly.
"I thought you'd never show." I whispered. She rested her chin on my shoulder, stroking my hair. I could tell that she was staring daggers at Dom and I could tell he didn't care. Like I said, the same routine. Every morning.
By the time lunch rolled around I had had enough. had gotten into a lot of trouble with Ms. Hallows over an overdue assignment and I had spilt water all down the front of my jeans. It looked like I had pissed myself. My saving grace is that they were dark jeans and so it wasn't too noticable. That didn't stop Georgie from laughing and calling me pissy pants for half the day.
Georgie was the kind of girl that you would avoid in high school. Everybody wanted to be her but everyone hated her so bad. She had golden brunette locks, a slim face and a petite nose. Her friends Nova and Ari were just as bad. Everyone used to tell you that when you left high school things would be different. I am sorry to inform you that they don't. Bullies stay bullies forever.
I forced my way through the groups of students, crowded together in the corridors. The last thing I wanted was to be late for my chat with Mr. Reid
"Y/N" I heard Luna calling after me. I could tell that she was chasing me through the crowd of students. "Y/N. Look, Y/N stop." I rolled my eyes.
"What?" I snapped. I could see the hurt in her eyes. She leaned on the wall, panting. I sighed. "I'm sorry. What's wrong?" I asked. I felt bad for snapping at her. All she wanted was answers, like anyone would have after walking in on what she did. But I don't give answers. I shut down. I don't tell anyone anything. She tried talking once we got in the car. I ignored her and I ran once we'd arrived at school. She didn't even need to speak. I could just tell what she wanted to talk about from the look on her face. I sighed again.
"Luna, I can't talk about this right now." I saw the hurt in her eyes. If I kept pushing her away then eventually she wouldn't fight to stay. 'Good', a small voice whispered in my head. Maybe that would be for the best. She deserves better. Everyone does. I could just end my life today and nobody would care. I used to fight hard against the suicidal ideations that entered my mind but now I didn't see the point.
"I have my meeting and I can't be late. Taco Bell after classes?" I asked. To my relief, she smiled and nodded, that beautiful smile that I loved so much. She was so easy to please. I smiled and walked away towards room 1980. Dr. Reid's office.
"I love you!" she shouted after me smiling.
"I love you more!"
"Lesbians" Georgie mocked. She was stood near the bathrooms. I rolled my eyes.
"Grow up"
Luna was gay but we weren't together. We had been intimate a few times but nothing had come of it. But so what if it had? We both agreed it felt weird as we had known each other as friends for so long. We didn't want to ruin anything. Luna and I had been friends ever since she opened up my juice box for me in kindergarten and then hit the girl who had stolen my straw. We had been inseparable ever since. She's been with me through thick and thin. I'd hate to think where I'd have been if she hadn't been there when my mom had died. We are and will alway's be the best of friends. In another life I could see us growing old together, adopting puppies and children but sometimes, it doesn't work out. And if you love someone, you have to let them go.
I opened the door to 1980 and as soon as I did my heart fluttered in my chest. There he was, as beautiful as ever. He looked up from the book he was reading, glasses perched on his nose and smiled, he seemed glad to see me.
"Sweetie!" he said, a smile spreading across his gorgeous lips. He's the only person who calls me that.
"Dr. Reid" I smiled back. My smile was huge and I probably looked so dorky but I don't care. My day just got brighter. I pulled up a chair next to him and kicked my feet up onto his lap. He rested his hand on my calf.
"So what did you think to the book?"

The Chocolatier’s Rose {Willy Wonka x OC} Ch.43

Summary: Rose and Willy bring Fleur and Dulce home. Rose has overwhelming thoughts.
Tagging: @willymywonkers @holdmeicant @sleepiesapphicxoxo @frozenhuntress67
It was early in the afternoon the following day when Dr. Potts cleared Rose to go home with Fleur and Dulce. He was pleased when everything was looking good for not just the babies, but Rose as well. Poppy made sure to explain how to take care of the twins to Rose and Willy. She went through everything from feeding, changing diapers, bathing, and putting them down for bed.
Rose and Willy both had to admit that they were feeling quite nervous. From this day forward, they were now responsible for the two little human beings that they were now holding in their arms. Poppy could sense how nervous the new parents were.
"I know you two are nervous," Poppy started her pep talk. "But everything is going to be fine. You're going to be amazing parents. And if you guys ever find yourselves needing a bit of help, you've got family and friends there to support you, and you can always give me a call"
"Thank you, Poppy," Rose said. When Dr. Potts returned to the Puppet Hospital, he was with Mr. and Mrs. Bucket and pushing a wheelchair forward. "Dr. Potts, I'm fine. You said so yourself. I don't need to be pushed"
"I know, but it's standard procedure for if you delivered at the hospital. And it's only the day after. I don't want you overexerting yourself" Dr. Potts explained.
Rose sighed in defeat. She sat down in the chair while still holding Dulce in her arms. Mr. Bucket moved behind her, grabbing the handlebars of the chair. Rose quirked her head up to look at her father, smiling at him. Mr. Bucket returned his daughter's smile, patting her on the shoulder.
"Is there anything else before they head on home?" Mr. Bucket asked Dr. Potts.
"Not unless Rose or Willy have any questions?" Dr. Potts asked, looking between the two Wonkas.
"I don't" Rose shook her head. She looked at Willy. "Do you, cocoa bean?"
"Nope," Willy answered. "I'm just ready to get you, and our jellybean and gumdrop home"
"Me too" Rose agreed.
With that, Dr. Potts and Poppy said their goodbyes to the Wonkas and the Buckets. An Oompa-Loompa came by and escorted the Potts out of the factory.
"Are you ready to head home, dears?" Mrs. Bucket asked her daughter and son-in-law. "Get the two little darlings home for a nap?"
Willy came over to stand by Rose. He held Fleur in one arm, and the other reached down so that he could take Rose's hand. He squeezed it and then brought it up to his lips so he could kiss her knuckles. "Let's head home, starshine"
******
Mr. Bucket pushed Rose all the way to the Garden Room, where Rose and Willy's small home waited. "Here we are," Mr. Bucket said, halting the chair to a stop. "Home sweet home"
Rose couldn't help but giggle when her father said that, only because of how literal the meaning was. I mean, the Wonka house was literally in a garden filled with cotton candy trees, chocolate roses, and minty grass.
"I still can't get over how beautiful this room is" Mrs. Bucket mused, her eyes wandering. "That you made this room for Rose" She smiled over at Willy. "She's sure lucky to have met and married you"
"I thought I was the lucky one" Willy giggled. This made Rose look up at him, wearing an adoring smile. "Rose could have chosen anyone else to be with, but she chose me. She fell in love with me. She married me. She had children with me"
Mr. and Mrs. Bucket both shared a smile. Even if they've been together for quite some time now, it still warmed their heart to know that Rose was with someone who loved and cared about her so much. All they ever wanted for Rose was for her to have someone to make her feel happy and loved. And they were glad that it was Willy who made her feel that way.
"Well, I'm home" Rose spoke, intruding on her parents' happy thoughts. "Can I stand up now?" No one objected as she got up on her feet.
"You feeling alright, dear?" Mrs. Bucket asked.
"Yes, mum"
Mrs. Bucket nodded. "Okay then. Is there anything you two need before we leave?"
"I think we'll be fine" Rose voiced. She looked at Willy. "Will we, cocoa bean?"
"We will, starshine" Willy assured.
"Are you sure?" Mrs. Bucket asked yet again. "There's nothing wrong with having one of us stay here for a couple of days. I was a new parent once. I know how nerve-wracking it can be"
Mr. Bucket placed his hand on his wife's shoulder. "Dear, I think they'll be fine" He stopped his wife from going into a ramble.
"Okay, okay" Mrs. Bucket sighed. "But, if there is a day where you find yourselves overwhelmed, remember, there is nothing wrong with asking for help"
"We'll remember that mum. Thank you" Rose said.
Mr. and Mrs. Bucket gave Rose and Willy hugs and kisses goodbye, and they also made sure to say goodbye to their grandchildren. Then they left, making their way back to their own home that resided in the Chocolate Room.
Rose and Willy Wonka were officially left on their own with their children.
"So," Willy spoke after a long pause of silence. "What do we do now?"
"We show our little angels their home, and then I think we should feed them and set them down for a nap"
******
Willy was in the nursery with Fleur and Dulce while Rose was in the kitchen preparing a bottle for both of them. She remembered Poppy's advice. The milk should be warm. Not too hot. Not too cold. Warm.
Poppy gave Rose a lot of advice but it was all so suddenly hard to remember.
What was she supposed to do when they were crying? Did it mean they were hungry? Tired? Need to be changed? All three? What if they start crying but they never stop? No matter what Rose does to try to make them feel better.
What if she's holding one of them and she accidentally drops them? She doesn't want to be the reason that her babies become injured. What if one of them gets sick but they never get better?
What if she becomes so stressed out with the babies and she starts to resent them? What if they end up feeling more like a burden more than a blessing?
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Rose immediately tossed that thought in the trash.
******
Willy noticed that Rose was taking an awfully long time preparing the bottles. He decided that perhaps he should go check on her. See if she needed any help. He set the babies down in their cribs. "Mommy is taking an awfully long time with those bottles" Willy talked to his children. The both of them looked up at him with those matching wide eyes. "I'm going to see if she's okay. Now, don't either of you move. Daddy will be right back"
He left the nursery and made his way to the kitchen area. "Starshine? Is everything okay? You're--" Willy stopped himself when he saw Rose sitting on the floor, crying into her hands. "Oh, starshine" He cooed. "Come here. Let's get you off the floor"
All Rose did was nod as she let Willy grab her and lift her off the floor. She gripped onto the lapels of his coat and cried into his chest. Willy's arms wrapped around her. He began rubbing her back. "Do you want to tell me what's wrong, starshine?"
"I-I'm scared, cocoa bean" Rose wept. "Maybe we jumped into this too soon. We should've waited a bit"
"Starshine, I want you to look at me" Willy cupped her face and tilted her head up so that she was facing him. "How do you think I'm feeling? I'm scared too. I never thought that I'd be a dad and now I am. I don't know how to be a dad. This is new for both of us, but at least we can figure it out together" He pressed a kiss to her lips. "You're not alone in this. You've got me by your side"
Rose's crying stopped and her lips curled into a smile. "Thank you. I love you so much, cocoa bean"
"I love you too, starshine" Willy smiled at her. He glanced over at the counter where two bottles of warm milk were waiting. "Is the milk ready?"
"I think so" Rose nodded, also glancing towards the bottles. "I made sure that the milk is warm, just like Poppy said"
"Good. We've got a hungry jellybean and gumdrop waiting for us"
Rose and Willy both grabbed a bottle and made their way into the nursery where their two little angels were waiting for their feeding.
******
Upon stepping into the nursery, Rose began cooing out to the twins. "Hello, my little angels" She peered into their side-by-side cribs. "Sorry, mommy took so long with your bottles. I'm new to this whole being a parent thing. Now, who's hungry for some yummy warm milk?" Fleur and Dulce both made a cute little noise, almost as if they were answering their mommy.
"I think that's a yes" Willy inferred, then giggled. "Who's feeding who?"
Rose wasn't blind to see the way that Fleur was looking up at her father. She made joyful noises of gurgling and giggling when Willy stepped closer. "I think our little jellybean wants you to feed her" Rose whispered to her husband. "I have a feeling she's definitely going to be a daddy's girl"
"But she's still going to love you just as equally," Willy said.
"Just like we love both of them, so, so much"
Rose watched as Willy picked up Fleur. She watched as he cooed, "my little jellybean" to her. She watched as he brought her closer to his face. She watched as Fleur smiled, giggled, and reached out to touch her father's nose. She watched as he pressed a gentle kiss to hers.
Rose picked up Dulce. She cradled him close to her, pressing a kiss to the soft skin of his little forehead. Dulce smiled and giggled at that. Willy came closer to them, cooed, "my little gumdrop" to Dulce, and pressed a kiss to his nose as well. Rose leaned over and pressed a kiss to Fleur's forehead.
And doubts and worries that Rose had only minutes before, suddenly vanished from her mind. The only thing that mattered to her was the fact that she now had her own little family with Willy, Fleur, and Dulce.
And it was all thanks to Charlie when he found that Golden Ticket. For not only had he become the luckiest boy in the world that day. Rose had become the luckiest girl in the world.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Part 4 here we go!!!
“So, tell me about Roger Taylor,” said Dr. Tracy.
You scowled at her. “Why, what does he have to do with anything?”
“From what Mark tells me, it has a great deal to do with your relationship,” she said. “I want the whole story.”
It was only your second therapy session, and you were already annoyed. It mostly felt like a way for Mark to spill his feelings about you to someone other than you, and have that person validate him to your face so you couldn’t argue.
You were also annoyed because you felt like the more people brought Roger up, the harder it would be to move on. It had been two weeks since you had confronted him outside the bar, and even though you showed a cool exterior during your meetings with him, your heart was still breaking over what you had learned.
“Y/N?” said Dr. Tracy. “Can you begin please?”
“Fine,” you sighed. “I met Roger when we were six. His father was an abusive and terrifying man, and before my family lived in the house next door, Roger would go to the shed and hide in there. After my family and I moved in, I found him in there on a rainy evening looking for a tool my father needed...”
The skinny blonde boy was sopping wet and quaking behind a large bag of fertilizer. He glared fiercely at you. It was almost frightening, especially with the blood dribbling from his lip. But, his own fear - so evident in those wide eyes - eased your own.
“Are you okay?” you asked.
A large drop of water leaked from the roof and onto his face. He shook his head.
“D’you need some help?” you wondered. “You’re bleeding. My mum’s a nurse so she’s got plenty of bandages.”
“P-please,” he shivered.
“Well, come on, then,” you said, offering your hand.
He took it. It was frigid compared to your warm one, but you felt his need in his grip. Forgoing the errand for your father, you led the boy inside. You came into the kitchen, where your mother was making dinner and your father was reading quietly. They both looked up and saw you with the strange, helpless boy and they looked at each other.
“Who’s this, Y/N?” your father asked.
You faced the boy. “Oh! I forgot to ask your name!”
“It’s Roger,” he said with a sniffle.
Your mother disappeared into the sitting room and returned with a blanket, wrapping it tightly around Roger’s shoulders. He shot her a grateful glance but then looked resolutely at the floor.
“How’d you find Roger, dear?” you mother wondered.
“He was in the shed,” you said simply. “He’s hurt.”
Your mother knelt down in front of him. She took his chin between her thumb and forefinger and lifted his face to inspect it. She saw his split lip. In the light, she also saw the bruise forming along his cheekbone.
“Have you been fighting, Roger?” she asked gently.
“No, ma’am,” he told her. “My dad got angry at me because I didn’t pick up a toy, so he…”
His lower lip trembled as his eyes filled up with tears.
“Oh, you poor darling,” your mother cooed. “Stay right here, love, we’ll fix you up.”
She bustled upstairs to retrieve her things. Roger sniffled. Your father looked at him.
“Come here, Roger,” he said.
For the first time, Roger released your hand. He stepped warily over to your father. Your dad lifted the boy up and placed him in his lap, caring nothing about the wet clothes dampening his work pants.
“There’s a good lad,” your father said gently, rubbing Roger’s cold arms. “Are you bad hurt?”
Roger shook his head. “S’just my lip, sir. I’m alright.”
“That’s not what I mean,” you father said. “Bad hurt isn’t something you feel on your skin. It’s something you feel in here.”
He pointed to Roger’s chest. His heart.
“Are you bad hurt, Roger?”
Tears spilling out of his eyes, Roger nodded.
“You father scares you?” your dad continued.
Roger nodded again. “Yes, sir.”
Your father nodded. “You may call me Felix, if you like.”
Just then, your mother re-entered the room, fresh clothes and first aid kit in hand.
“And that lovely lady is my wife, Vivian,” he went on. “And of course you’ve met my daughter, Y/N.” He paused thoughtfully. “Roger, I don’t know how you found your way to our shed, but you’re welcome to come to the front door.”
“Can’t,” Roger said. “I live next door, he’ll see where I went. If I go through the back fence, he doesn’t follow me.”
“Come to the back door, then,” your father said. “I promise I’ll never lock it.”
“Really?” Roger returned, eyes wide with wonder which had replaced his fear.
“Really,” you father assured him. “So the next time something like this happens, or you’re feeling bad hurt, you can come here. We’ll do what we can to make it better for you.”
Gently, your father reached up and wiped the tears from Roger’s cheeks.
“There we go, there’s a handsome chap,” he said. “Ready to let Viv clean you up?”
You mother smiled warmly at Roger. He nodded. Your father eased him off his lap and then Roger took your mother’s hand and followed her into the bathroom so he could change and she could treat him. You looked at your dad.
“Is there anything we can do, Daddy?” you asked. “To make his daddy be nicer to him?”
“I’m afraid there isn’t much that would be effective, sweetheart,” he replied. “But what we can do is show him that there are good and kind people in this world. And we can remind him that he is deserving of kindness. That will have to be enough for now.”
He stood up, patted your head, and went into the sitting room to the piano. Your dad was a banker, but he was also an incredibly talented musician. He always said he played piano and did a little banking on the side as a joke.
Roger emerged, looking much happier. He drew close to your father and looked at the shiny white keys.
“Do you play?” your father asked.
Roger shook his head.
“Would you like to learn?”
Roger nodded and grinned.
“Well, climb on the bench, I’ll teach you some,” your father said.
Roger hastily obeyed and clamored onto the bench as your father took a seat beside him. Your mother sat on the couch and you went and crawled into her lap. The two of you watched as your father showed Roger the basics. He learned quickly. Music came easily to Roger, and you thought then that he would one day amount to something great.
Your father then let you take his place and you taught Roger a few little diddies you knew. Felix and his wife started back toward the kitchen so they could finish dinner and fix a plate for Roger as well.
“What can we do, Felix?” Vivian asked. “Can’t we call someone?”
“We can try, but I’m afraid that will only come back to hurt Roger,” Felix replied. “Let’s wait for now. If things get drastic, we’ll step in. Until then, all we can do is show him as much love as possible.”
She sighed. “Alright, then. Oh, the poor, poor dear.”
They departed to the kitchen. You and Roger stopped playing the piano and looked at each other. Unbeknownst to your parents, you had both heard what they said.
“Roger,” you said. “I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry for?” he wondered.
“I’m sorry is what people say to someone when they’re upset,” you said. “So, I’m sorry.”
“Thanks,” he replied. “For the sorry.”
“Wanna learn a real song?” you asked. “Then every time you come over, we can practice it.”
He brightened at that and nodded. Thus began your journey together.
“I see,” Dr. Tracy said as you wrapped up. “And at what point did you two progress from childhood friends to sweethearts?”
“We were fifteen,” you said. “Roger was starting to sort of realize his appeal to girls and that boys were also interested in me. It actually started from a fight because he had asked another girl to a party…”
“I’m not mad!” you insisted, storming through your front door. “You are perfectly welcome to ask whomever you like!”
“Well, something’s wrong because you’ve ignored me all day!” he returned.
“What’s going on out here?” your mother wondered, bursting into the living room.
“Y/N’s upset with me,” Roger blurted out.
“I am not!” you cried, stamping your foot. “Mother, tell him I’m not upset!”
“I think I’d be hard pressed to convince him of it if you can’t,” she teased, nodding at your posture and deep frown. “Now, what’s this all about?”
“I asked Pam Davis to Mary Key’s party, and now Y/N isn’t speaking to me,” he explained.
“Y/N, is that true?” she asked.
You huffed. “I was just under the impression he and I would...never mind, I was clearly mistaken.”
Your face was bright pink and you looked resolutely at the carpet, toeing it with your shoe. Your mother looked knowingly between you and Roger, who looked equally embarrassed.
“Well, I don’t think I can settle this one,” she said. “You two will just have to work it out on your own.”
You turned on your heel and swept into the kitchen. Roger looked at your mother.
“Better go and fix it, Rog,” she said.
“On it,” he sighed, and followed you.
You yanked the fridge open and reached for a Coke. You tugged the cap off and took a swig, letting it cool you down.
“Y/N, are you upset because you don’t have a date?” Roger asked. “Because I can get you a date. There’s plenty of blokes who’d be glad to take you.”
“I don’t want just any bloke!” you cried, exasperated. “Can’t you see?!”
“Oh, there’s someone you like?” he wondered, perking up. “Tell me!”
“God, you’re such an idiot!”
“Why am I an idiot?!”
“Because you are!”
“Tell me the reason!”
“I like you, you idiot!” you shouted.
You stared at each other, out of breath and both shocked at the words that had just come out of your mouth. You inhaled deeply, collecting yourself.
“I like you, Roger,” you said calmly. “And I don’t know how you don’t know it.”
“Well, Y/N, we…” he trailed off. “We’ve always been best friends. How was I supposed to know things had changed?”
“I dunno,” you said. “I’m just as new to this as you are. But when you asked Pam to be your date, I was hurt. Bad hurt.”
“Y/N, I had no idea,” he said gently. “I’m sorry. If I had known, I...well, I wouldn’t have asked Pam.”
“Y - you wouldn’t?” you questioned.
He shook his head. “No. The truth is, I was afraid to change things between us because I don’t think I could stand to lose you. But, I like you too.”
“Really?!” you gasped.
“Really,” he said.
He stepped closer to you. You observed suddenly that he was much taller than you remembered. You looked up into his eyes. His hand moved to caress your cheek. Your heart pounded in your chest.
“Can I kiss you?” he breathed.
“Yeah,” you sighed back.
He pressed his lips tenderly against yours. It was a little unsteady and light, giving you the opportunity to stop him. You didn’t. You just kept right on kissing him. Your lips moved with his as gracefully as dancers moved through a waltz. Neither of you really knew what you were doing, but you didn’t care. It was the way you showed what you were both feeling.
“Y/N,” said Roger, pulling away for air. “Come with me to Mary’s party. As my girlfriend.”
“O-okay,” you agreed, a smile blooming across your face.
Not only did you just have your first kiss, but you got your first boyfriend. And it was someone you cared for more than anyone else in the world.
“Now, how long was it before the two of you made love?” Dr. Tracy asked.
“Oh, I’m not telling you that!” you returned indignantly. “That’s private!”
“How long?” she insisted.
“Why is that important?” you demanded.
“Your first experience with intimacy can be a contributing factor in issues in new relationships,” she said. “When did you do it and what was it like?”
You briefly imagined yourself opening your mouth and breathing fire onto this woman until she burned to a crisp. You cleared your throat.
“We were seventeen, and it was wonderful,” you said. “Of course it was awkward and unsure since neither of us knew what we were doing, but we eventually got the hang of it and we were happy.”
“So the sex was good?” she asked.
“It was great,” you said.
“How is the sex with Mark?” she went on.
“Oh, come on!” you cried. “He’s right here!”
“Ah, so not good,” she observed.
“That’s not what I said!” you protested.
“Well, if it was good, you would have just said so,” she said. “And your resistance to talking about it in front of him implies that your opinion would insult him. So, I must assume it’s not good sex.”
“Let’s move on,” Mark interjected. “We can have that conversation at another time.”
“Alright,” Dr. Tracy agreed. “Y/N, tell me how things with Roger ended.”
You sighed. “Well, that was tough. I was still in uni. He had already dropped out and was becoming successful with the band…”
Your dingy little London flat reeked with the food you just burned. How your mother managed to make perfect meals, work, and raise a child was beyond you. Your only responsibilities were studying and work, so why was it so difficult to cook? With an aggravated groan, you tossed it in the bin and started debating what you wanted to get for take out. That was when Roger came in.
“Hello, darling!” you greeted warmly. “How’s recording going?”
“Fine,” he said shortly.
You looked him over. He seemed agitated and nervous.
“You alright, Rog?” you asked.
“I’m fine,” he replied. He scrunched up his nose. “What did you burn this time?”
“Chicken,” you chuckled. “I’m gonna go for some Chinese. Wanna come?”
“Actually, there’s something I wanted to ask you,” he said.
His tone made your heart skip a beat. You had a feeling that Roger might be about to propose. You had discussed marriage before, but you both agreed now wasn’t the time. But you had also told him you were not opposed to a long engagement.
“What is it?” you wondered.
He sighed heavily and stuffed his hands into his pockets.
“Do you ever feel like you’re missing out?” he wondered. “On other people?”
“How do you mean?” you questioned, brow furrowing as the panic set in.
“Well, it’s just that our whole lives, we’ve only ever been with each other,” he said. “Don’t you ever wonder what it’d be like to...I dunno, kiss someone else?”
“No,” you said. “I love you, Roger.”
“I love you too, Y/N, but I feel like there’s more out there,” he said. “Now that I’ve gone on tour and seen other places I feel like there’s so much to be explored. And...I want to explore it. Don’t you?”
“No,” you repeated, darkly. “I love you, Roger.”
He sighed again. “I love you, Y/N.”
“What are you getting at, then?” you demanded.
“As much as I love you, I don’t want to be tied down anymore,” he said. “I know we’ve discussed getting married, so I’m sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but I’ve been thinking it for a while. The band’s getting bigger, and it’s only going to progress. And I’m not ready to settle down with just one person.”
“So...you want to break up?”
The question hung between you. You weren’t sure how you even managed to ask it with a lump in your throat the size of an ostrich egg. Your heart was cracking inside your chest.
“Yes,” he said.
With that one word, you felt your heart shatter completely. Your whole world was collapsing on top of you. The assurance you had always placed in Roger was an illusion.
“Well,” you choked out. “At least you’re telling me now.”
“That’s all you have to say?” he questioned.
You met his eyes and saw they were just as teary as yours.
“What else can I say?” you returned. “You’ve made up your mind, haven’t you?”
“I have,” he said.
“Well, what do you want me to do?” you questioned. “Beg for you to stay?”
“You don’t want to fight for it?”
“Why should I? If I’m not enough for you, Roger, then that’s it. I won’t guilt you or force you to be with me.”
“I feel like you’re giving up,” he said.
“I’m not the one leaving,” you reminded him.
A moment passed where neither of you said anything. It was so heavy your knees almost buckled beneath the weight of it.
Roger sniffled and quickly wiped his eyes.
“I don’t even know how to say goodbye to you,” he struggled to say.
“Maybe it’s best if you don’t say anything,” you told him. You felt a tear slide down your cheek. “That way we make it easier on both of us.”
“Y/N…”
“Go, Roger,” you ordered him.
“Y/N, please.”
“Go.”
He took one last look at you. You were scowling, tears flowing down your cheeks, eyes red and puffy. Even then, he thought you were beautiful and he began to doubt his decision. Suddenly, he realized that he would no longer have his best friend, and it made him hesitate.
“Roger,” you said, drawing in a deep breath. “I really need you to go.”
“Yeah, okay,” he said, resigning himself to the damage done. “I...I am sorry, Y/N.”
“Okay,” you said shortly.
He held your gaze again. Your bottom lip began to tremble as the reality struck you. Roger was leaving you. Roger, who you had given everything too, including your heart, was going to walk out of the door and out of your life.
He broke away, crossed the room, and opened the door. You heard it squeak as he hesitated again. Then he sighed and left. The door fell closed with a soft click. That was it. No hug, no dramatic kiss, no screaming, no fight.
When the door closed, you broke down with a wail. This was not the Roger you knew. Ever since the band became successful, you had seen glimpses of his desire for more, but you’d ignored it. You thought surely he loved you more than he craved that lifestyle. And yet, he proved to you he didn’t. It seemed impossible that time moved on when your heart was breaking so badly. If there were any justice, everything would have frozen so you could properly nurse it. But all you could do was crumple into a heap and feel the pain.
“Life went on,” you said. “He became a successful drummer. I became a successful attorney, and I’m mostly happy.”
It was a lie. Just remembering the day Roger left you made you emotional.
“Mostly?” Dr. Tracy questioned.
“Well, I had hoped to be married and have children at this point, but Rog - I mean, I just never met the right person,” you said.
“Let me ask you this -” she began, but Mark cut across her.
“I think I’ve heard enough,” he said, getting angrily to his feet. “I can see now that you really aren’t over Roger Taylor and I don’t think you ever will be.”
“Mark, don’t be ridiculous,” you said. “Obviously, he was a big part of my life, but I -”
“Don’t, Y/N!” he shouted snatching away the hand you had reached for. “I can’t do this anymore!”
You stood up as well. “What? Are you serious? Just because Roger was part of my past! That’s crazy! I’ve found somebody else, and -”
“No!” he cried. “I’m a placeholder, Y/N, and I won’t stand for it!”
“You are not!” you argued.
“Okay, then answer me this,” he challenged. “Do you love me?”
“I - well, I don’t know yet!” you insisted.
“Well, I love you,” he said. “And I know that because we’ve been together long enough for anyone else in the world to know! The problem is, Y/N, that love is wasted on you as long as Roger Taylor walks this Earth!”
It was like all the air was sucked out of the room. You felt yourself harden against the hurt of his words. His face fell, regretting them.
“Love is wasted on me?”
“I didn’t mean -”
“No, I think you did, Mark,” you interrupted. “That was the cruelest thing anyone has ever said to me.”
“Y/N -”
“No, I think you’re right,” you said, grabbing your things from the back of your chair. “Let’s say our goodbyes. After all, I wouldn’t want you to waste anymore love on the likes of me.”
You said nothing else, but swept out of the office. Hot tears stung your eyes. You never thought Mark capable of saying something so hurtful.
As you walked, heading back to your firm, you looked at the ground, deep in thought about what had transpired. You paid little attention to your surroundings, and therefore, ran smack into a man who was emerging from a building you were passing.
The collision nearly knocked you off your feet, but the man was quick to react and steadied you. You looked up to meet the eyes of the very man that started all this.
“Roger?” you questioned. “What are you doing here?”
“I work here,” he said, pointing to the building he had just walked out of. “This is the studio.”
“Oh,” you said.
You bit your lip to keep your emotions in check. You really needed to cry right now so you were eager to get back to your office.
“Y/N?” Roger asked, noticing your eyes welling up. “Are you okay?”
Too upset to bother with your pride, you shook your head.
“No.”
“Bad hurt?” he wondered.
You nodded. You weren’t sure if it was that you’d talked about him for an hour or the sting from Mark’s statement, but suddenly you couldn’t contain the overwhelming feelings swirling around in your heart. You let out a sob and fell into Roger’s arms.

A Little Medical Magic
Title: A Little Medical Magic
Pairing: Seokjin x reader
Genre: Meet-cute?, fluff, hospital au
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 5.1k
Song inspiration: Dope (music video)
A/N: So I’m very aware that I’m nowhere close to finishing my bingo card before the end of the challenge (the end of this month), but I’m going to try and write them all anyway, no matter how long it takes. My next submission for ficswithluv’s Bulletproof Bingo Event is my Dope inspired drabble, and this one takes inspo from the video rather than the song itself. Gotta love some Dr Seokjin <3
“Just a little longer, darling, I promise,” you speak softly into the hair of the boy in your arms, holding him close to your chest and rocking him gently. He whimpers, exhausted from the hours of sobbing and screaming he’d already endured throughout the night. You kiss his temple, pleased to feel his skin has cooled slightly despite the warmth that still radiates from him and sheen of sweat that still lingers.
You’ve been sitting in the A&E waiting room for just under half an hour, but it feels like much longer when your son has cried through most of his waking hours over the last two days. You’ve done everything you can, tried every medicine and home remedy you’ve had access to, but Iseul’s condition hasn’t improved. It started with a high temperature and gradually grew into a fever that you have been unable to break and you know better than to leave him suffering any longer. You’re trying to keep calm for his sake, knowing that he’s intuitive and perceptive enough to pick up on your fear even if he is only three years old.
“Mrs Y/l/n?” A nurse holding a clipboard calls your name across the room, although the prefix catches you off guard at first. You blink a few times before realising she means you, gathering Iseul in your arms before grabbing your purse to follow her. Iseul wraps his arms around your neck, snuggling into your chest and whining at the movement.
“It’s Miss Y/l/n,” you say as politely as you can, offering a smile before she can even begin to form an apology. “Don’t worry, most people assume. It’s okay. I’m used to it.”
You briefly remember now how you used to meekly allow people to assume you were married just because you had a son despite the absence of a ring of your finger. It didn’t take long for you to start correcting people, however, taking pride in everything you were achieving as a single mother rather than submitting to society’s attempts to shame you for not being with the father, let alone not being married. But when you’d found out you were pregnant just a few months into your last relationship, your still-new boyfriend had panicked and scarpered, so you felt no remorse at not being with him considering how easily he’d left you on your own.
The very second Iseul was put into your arms at his birth, you were besotted, and you’d known then, as long as you had your son by your side, you could face anything the world had to throw at you. The last three years haven't been easy by any means, juggling motherhood and your career, but you couldn’t even imagine now what your life would be like now without your son.
The nurse shows you into a consultation room, telling you the doctor will be with you in a moment before she leaves. You lay Iseul down on the examination bed and unwrap his hands from your neck despite his complaints, taking them in one of yours instead as you sit beside him. You stroke his hair softly, pushing it away from his forehead as you do so, and hum the sweetest melody you know. Your mother used to sing it to you when you were a child and the tune immediately came back to your memory when Iseul was born, as if it were a secret song only mothers knew. It has always settled him and you take comfort in the fact that you can at least give him that when your medicines haven’t worked.
As he gazes up at you, his face red and watery eyes shining under the fluorescent lights, you feel a sharp tug at the ever-present pull on your heart. It’s like a thread immediately unravelled in your heart when you gave birth to him, the other end attached to your son, pulling you towards him no matter where either of you were. You wish you could help him, that you didn’t have to bring him into the hospital environment that you hate so much at three in the morning, but you know this is what’s best for him.
The door suddenly opens behind you, making you jump slightly, and you turn to see the doctor walk in. You’re not sure if he looks so tall because you’re sitting down or if he really is that tall, but you immediately notice how you’re surprised that the small smile on his face actually reaches his eyes as he walks over to the desk on the other side of the room, white coat billowing out behind him.
Your last experience with a hospital doctor was when Iseul was born and, despite it being one of the greatest moments of your life, you can’t help the ghost of shame that creeps up your spine when you remember the way your doctor spoke to and about you. Yes, you’d been young, single and with your mother instead of the baby’s father, but you’d never expected such an emotionally detached reaction from the doctor. The nurses had looked after you incredibly, always making sure you were comfortable before and after Iseul’s arrival, but you’d never forget overhearing the doctor as he left, his assertion that he had another baby to deliver - this time to a “proper family”. Ever since, you’d had a wary disposition against doctors, constantly on alert that they would tell you that you were doing things wrong by being a single mother and not granting Iseul a male presence in his life, as if that were the most valuable thing in the world.
But this doctor seems a lot younger and, while you try not to let any prejudice shape your opinion, you can’t help but think he looks much more welcoming than any doctor you’ve met before. Maybe it’s because he’s a paediatrician, or maybe it’s the way his dark eyes seem to be permanently shining with a smile, but you instantly feel your own wariness beginning to ease.
It’s possibly also because he’s really quite attractive. He really does seem to be that tall and you note that the broadness of his shoulders is also not a trick of perspective. His dark hair sits just over his eyebrows, bringing your attention down to his large, dark brown eyes as they read the file that was left on the desk for him. Under his white coat is a simple white shirt, but it’s the tie that catches your attention: it’s bright red, not dissimilar to the red fire truck toy Iseul has at home, but it’s covered in little white hearts. You catch yourself smiling before he looks up at you, turning away and hoping he doesn’t notice any dusting on your cheeks.
“Who do we have here then?” he asks as he comes over to the bed holding the file, eyes already searching for every visual clue he can find to help him diagnose your son.
“Iseul,” you say with a brief flash of a small smile to the doctor before turning to your son, repeating his name and trying to coax Iseul out from hiding his eyes under his arms. He’d immediately crossed them over his face when you’d let go at the entrance of the doctor, shielding his eyes from the bright lights above him.
The doctor, however, seems unperturbed by your son’s reluctance to look at him.
“Ah, hello Iseul,” he says, carrying on as normal as he pulls over the chair by the desk and takes a seat, tucking his coat underneath him out of habit. “My name is Dr Kim, but you can call me Seokjin, if you like.” When Iseul still doesn’t look at him, Seokjin smiles sympathetically and turns to you. “So, Mum, what seems to be the problem?”
You’re ashamed that being on the end of his direct gaze makes you a different kind of nervous than you expected when you came to the hospital, especially when your son is lying on the bed beside you. Shaking your head slightly, you miss the smirk on the doctor’s face as you turn to your child.
“Uh, he’s had a high temperature for the last few days,” you say, placing a protective hand on his tummy, “ He keeps saying his head hurts, but paracetamol doesn’t seem to help much and I worry about giving him too much. He’s been off his food, too, even when I make his favourites, and he’s been sick a few times.”
Seokjin nods as he takes a few notes, adding to what’s already written in the file in his hand. You can’t figure out if his blank expression is solemn or just concentration and it makes your heart beat a little faster for the little boy under your hand.
“Iseul, buddy, is it alright if I take your temperature?”
Your son shakes his head under his arms before whimpering at the movement.
“Shh, baby, it’s okay,” you coo. “Doctor Kim’s gonna make you feel better, okay?”
“I sure am,” Seokjin’s voice is confident but warm and almost playful and you feel a flutter of relief when you see Iseul’s eyes peek out from under his arms and flicker towards him. “Do you think you can sit up for me?” Iseul’s not had much experience with doctors, not any that he would remember, anyway, and you don’t want to pass on your hesitancy, so you smile and nod encouragingly when he finally looks to you for reassurance.
Iseul thinks for a few seconds before he reaches out for you and you help him to sit up, wrapping your arm around him so that he can shuffle up to your side. You see his eyes widen as he takes in Seokjin’s full appearance for the first time, his attention immediately drawn to the shiny stethoscope around the doctor’s neck.
“You gonna let Doctor check your temperature?” you squeeze his shoulder lightly and stroke his hair again as he watches Seokjin curiously, his eyes constantly drifting down to the instrument around the doctor’s neck.
“All you gotta do is hold this under your tongue for me for a few seconds, okay?” Seokjin tells him, showing him a small thermometer, and your son nods shyly, still sniffling slightly. “Fabulous,” Seokjin praises his cooperation and you grin at the little smile that creeps onto your son’s face. “Now, let’s see how wide you can open your mouth, shall we?” Iseul makes a large ‘O’ with his lips, making both you and the doctor chuckle. “Oh, I know a grown boy like you can do better than that!” Seokjin teases and Iseul proves him right, allowing the doctor to slip the thermometer under his tongue. “Now, see if you can hold that perfectly still for me - without biting it,” he quickly adds, knowing most children are immediately tempted to do just that. “Pretend it’s a straw, okay?” Iseul does as he’s told, looking up at you before crossing his eyes to look down his nose at the thermometer.
“Good job, baby,” you encourage him as he keeps flicking his eyes between you and the instrument. You press a kiss to the top of his dark brown hair and are relieved to feel that his temperature has lessened slightly, even if only temporarily.
“Let me see?” Doctor Kim leans over and you watch him take note of the temperature before taking the thermometer from Iseul’s mouth and laying it gently on a tray beside the bed. “Excellent, I knew you could do it!” He offers Iseul a high five, which your son eagerly grants him with more enthusiasm than you’ve seen in him lately and it makes your heart swell just that little bit more. Seokjin carefully takes his stethoscope from around his neck and holds it in his lap before leaning forward conspiratorially. “Now, as you were such a good boy, I’m allowed to show you a little bit of magic… would you like to see it?”
Iseul nods but then frowns, glancing at you before looking back to Dr Kim.
“Mummy can’t watch, though.” A cry of indignation escapes you at your son’s words, but Seokjin simply laughs.
“No?” Iseul shakes his head with a solemn expression, as if it pains him to speak the truth, and Seokjin continues to humour him, despite the splutters of objection you’re trying to swallow. “And why’s that?”
“Mummy hasn’t been a good girl,” your son states this like it’s obvious, much to Seokjin’s amusement.
“Excuse me?” you can feel the heat rise in your cheeks, a million thoughts flying through your head and a slight stab of betrayal in your heart, although you weren’t even sure what he’d be talking about. Sure, you enjoyed a glass of wine or two on a Friday night, but you always made sure to tidy everything away before your son awoke for breakfast the next morning. You didn’t swear in front of him. You hadn’t had anyone other than your closest friends over to your house since Iseul was born, and the three dates you’d tried had ended at the front step.
“Oh dear,” Seokjin sighs, although a playful smirk tugs at his lips as he looks at you, dark eyes shining like jet as he quickly looks you from head to toe. “Mummy’s been a bad girl, huh?”
An aggressive blush fills your cheeks and you suddenly feel like the little room is overheating, too stuffy to breathe properly as the devilishly handsome doctor in front of you simply quirks an eyebrow. ‘Stop flirting with the doctor!’ you berate yourself. ‘You’re here for your son!’ Your eyes involuntarily drop down to Seokjin’s hands, but his left hand is tucked neatly under his right over the top of his stethoscope, so you can’t see if a ring sits on his finger or not. You presume he is married, though, or at least dating someone, given how absolutely perfect he seems to be.
“...no,” Iseul says, looking up to the ceiling as if deep in thought and you recognise it as the way he tries to avoid looking at you when you’ve caught him trying to lie, and Seokjin looks back to him as soon as he speaks. “But she hasn’t done nothing good, neither! I had the ‘mometer in my mouth, she didn’t.”
“Ahh, I see,” Seokjin nods sagely, his hand pressed to his chin and the other folded across his chest, pouting slightly as he considers Iseul’s argument. “You make a good point,” he says, “how about this, then - I show you the magic, and then you can show Mummy?”
“You’ll teach me?” Iseul’s eyes light up, not even illness getting in the way of his love for magic tricks - especially magic tricks he can perform for you.
“Of course!” Seokjin grins, “although I’m sure you’ll do it first try no problem.” He looks to you and winks quickly, lifting the stethoscope slightly to signal to you what he was planning, and you return the slightest nod you can manage without drawing your son’s attention. “You ready?” he asks your son, who immediately turns to you and pushes at your arm.
“Don’t look, Mummy! Not allowed!”
Happy to see your son with more energy, you play along for his benefit, dramatically sighing and turning your body slightly so that he thinks you aren’t watching. You can, however, see his reflection in the glass-lined cabinet on the other side of the room, and watch as Seokjin presents the stethoscope to your son.
“Now this,” he says, and you smile at the way he softens his voice to make it sound much more fantastical for Iseul, “is a very special thing. It lets you hear a person’s heart.”
“Wow! Really?” Reflection-Iseul leans forward slightly and puts his hand out, reaching out to touch the stethoscope before retracting his hand, as if he might break the magic if he does. His eyes are wide and awestruck despite the traces of illness still lingering in his reddened cheeks and dampened hairline.
“Really. How about I show you how it’s done, and then you can try it on Mummy?” Your son’s reflection nods as avidly as he can without hurting himself, although you still see the traces of a frown pull at his brow when he does so. Seokjin puts the earpieces in before taking hold of the other end, showing it to Iseul and explaining that this is the magic piece that lets him hear people’s hearts. He explains that the heart can only be heard by good, kind people who care about others, which is why they all become doctors and nurses, before pointing to the part of Iseul’s chest he’s going to listen to and telling him he has to sit still for it to work.
And it works without a hitch, Iseul watching, amazed, as Seokjin listens to his heartbeat. After a few seconds, Seokjin starts nodding to himself and then pulls away.
“Yep, seems like we’ve got a good heart in there,” he says, putting the stethoscope back in his lap as he takes some notes. “You should be able to do this magic no problem.”
A tugging at your sleeve encourages you to turn around, fistfuls of your jacket sleeve in your son’s hands, and you smile down at your son.
“Did you see the magic?” you ask him, and he is all but bouncing on the bed.
“I did! Dr Seokjin says I’ve got a good heart and I can do the magic, too!”
You look at the doctor in question, catching him watching your interaction with your son with a warmth in his eyes before he notices you looking at him and looks back down at his papers, clearing his throat. You refrain from smirking at the blush on his cheeks and turn back to your son.
“Wow, really? You can do magic? Can you show me?”
Without any further prompting needed, Seokjin lends forward as he removes the stethoscope once again, this time scooting his chair closer to the bed. He offers the chest piece to Iseul, telling him to hold onto it while he moves to put the earpieces in place. He plans to hold them rather than letting them press on Iseul’s young ears, but as soon as even the slightest pressure touches his ears, Iseul shrieks and drops his end of the stethoscope. He pushes Seokjin’s hands away and covers his ears with his own, burying his face into your side.
You’re immediately panicking, but Seokjin quickly retracts the stethoscope and drops it to the bed, nothing more than a brief frown furrowing his brow before he reaches into his pocket to pull out a small instrument.
“Do your ears hurt, Iseul?” Your son nods against you, your arms already wrapped around him. “Can I have a look?” You expect your son to scream in refusal given the fact that Seokjin’s last instrument caused the pain in the first place, but you’re surprised when your son simply nods again, rubbing his eyes as he sits up again. Seokjin seems to have gained his trust incredibly quickly, and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t thrilled that he wasn’t holding his experience against the doctor.
With the utmost care, Seokjin uses the tool in his hand to check Iseul’s ears before pulling away with a soft, yet somewhat relieved, sigh.
“It appears that Iseul has an infection in his left ear, which explains everything you’ve said he’s been going through,” he says, turning to you briefly before rolling back over to the desk. “I’ll get some antibiotics sorted for him, and he’ll be as right as rain in no time.”
The smile he gives you is reassuring, but you can’t bring yourself to smile back. You hold your son close as you curse yourself for not even thinking about the possibility of an ear infection, especially as it was now so obvious as you recalled Iseul’s increased habit of touching his ears over the last few days. He’d told you his head had been hurting, but you hadn’t realised he’d actually meant his ears. You feel a sinking in your chest at the idea that you’ve failed your own son, whose cries have now settled back down to hiccups, but Seokjin quickly catches on.
“Hey,” his voice is soft, calling you out of your reverie. He doesn’t want to assume what you’re thinking, but he’s seen the same look on plenty of parents’ faces over the last few years and he can take a good guess. “He’ll be okay.”
You nod quietly, still frowning but somehow reassured by the simple statement.
“Thank you, Doctor,” you say, rising to put your purse over your shoulder properly this time before lifting your son onto your hip. You take the signed prescription slip he offers you, ready to go off in search of someone to fill it for you, but he places a gentle hand on your arm to stop you.
“You’re doing a good job, Miss Y/l/n,” he says softly, and it takes you a few seconds to realise he hasn’t immediately assumed you’re married. “Don’t pressure yourself, okay?”
It’s been a long time since someone has outwardly praised you like this, especially a stranger, and it catches you off guard, your breath catching in your throat. Seokjin’s gaze flickers between your eyes for a few seconds, waiting until he’s sure you’ve taken him seriously, before he offers a gentle smile and removes his hand from your arm.
As you leave the examination room, Seokjin directs you to the hospital’s pharmacy and assures you that you should be able to pick up the antibiotics from them without an issue. He seems to hesitate, opening his mouth and closing it again before wishing you a good night and walking away, and you try not to think too much about the lingering flutter in your chest as you set off in your own direction.
You sink back into your chair as you place your mug back on the table, directing your gaze out of the large floor-to-ceiling window to the high street just beyond it. You idly watch as the Saturday morning shoppers hurry back and forth, some families and couples lingering at shop windows as others push on to their next destination. The summer sun casts everything in a brightness that you can’t help but feel joy in, even as the sun’s rays are amplified through the glass and make your legs feel like they’re burning up.
You turn back to look around the coffee shop you’re sat in, reminding yourself that you don’t have any reason to rush right now. The rare, stolen moment of unhurried peace that you haven’t felt in a long time is something you know you need to cherish, because in just over twenty-four hours your son will be coming home from his grandparents’ house, but it does feel strange to not have your son joyfully chattering across the table from you.
Your mother had offered to let Iseul stay over at their for the weekend, half out of her love of spending time with her grandson and half out of concern for the way you were constantly rushed off of your feet, either from being a mother or from your job as a curator for the National History Museum. It was a small treat for you to be able to get a weekend to yourself and go shopping on your own, not having to worry about your son running in and out of changing rooms while you tried on new clothes, and you’ve decided to also indulge in a slightly overpriced coffee without having to rush while you have the chance.
As your eyes skim down the line of patrons waiting to order, you think you recognise one of them but can’t quite place where you know him from. He’s tall, clearly several inches above the other people in the line, with dark hair sitting on top of a pair of dark-rimmed glasses. The light of his phone reflects in his lenses as he gazes down at it, avidly watching or reading whatever it is that’s caught his attention, and his lips are pushed out in a small pout in the midst of his concentration.
Despite the weather, he’s in black skinny jeans that look sinfully tight above the knees and bring further attention to his height, but you suppose the loose white t-shirt hanging off his broad shoulders must be helping him to stay rather cool-
Wait... incredibly tall, broad shoulders… it couldn’t be?
So lost is he in his phone, the man at the end of your gaze doesn’t notice the gap forming in front of him until the slightly elderly patron behind him clears his throat gently. You hear him apologise several times to the man behind him (who just smiles softly and tells him not to worry) and lets the man go up the counter first by way of an apology, and it’s only when you hear his voice that you realise who he is.
You’re pretty certain the jump in your heartbeat is cause for concern when you finally recognise him without the white coat. You start slightly, almost choking on nothing and quickly hide your reddening face by looking down at your drink, then out of the window again, then down to your phone. You bring up the home screen even though you know no one has texted you, desperate for something to do to put off looking up again, instead trying to figure out what had caused your reaction in the first place.
Of course, he was attractive - in fact he was ridiculously so - and he had been kind to you and your son, but that was his job as a paediatrician. Maybe it was the way he’d reassured you, been one of the first strangers in a while to assuage your underlying fears that you weren’t adequate as a single mother, or perhaps it was that last lingering look that had stayed with you as he’d said goodbye in A&E-
“Miss Y/l/n?” Your thoughts are cut short by a voice beside you. Looking up, you see the broad-shouldered doctor standing beside your table, holding his own drink in a takeaway cup. He smiles when you look up at him, apparently happy to have recognised you.
“Dr Kim?” You immediately blush at the squeaky voice that tumbles out of your mouth, a hand flying to cover your mouth.
“Call me Seokjin, please,” he smiles, a gentle blush on his cheeks when he can’t quite meet your eyes, seemingly less confident outside of his hospital halls. “Sorry for interrupting, I just thought I’d come over and say hello.”
In actual fact, he has no idea what made him come over to you. He sees his patients and their parents outside of the hospital all the time and never bats an eyelid, knowing it comes with the territory of working at the main hospital in the city, but when he’d seen you staring out of the window, a serene look on your face as you watched the people passing you by, he’d felt compelled to go over to you. So when the barista had handed him his drink, he’d followed his feet to stand beside your table.
“How’s your son doing?”
“Iseul? He’s fine, thank you.” You think back to what he’d said to you before you’d made to leave. “He was right as rain in no time, just like you said.” God, why did that sound better in your head than it did out loud?
“I’m glad,” Seokjin’s eyes briefly disappear behind his glasses when he nods happily, the reflection of the light above him making the lens white until he looks down to you again. “I told you he would be.” He tries not to wince as he groans internally, cursing himself for being so awkward when it comes to small talk. It’s never been his strong point, which is why he likes working with children as they don’t do small talk either. He’d rather field all of their weird and wonderful thoughts and questions than talk to their parents about the weather or sports he doesn’t watch.
You both fall into silence, still awkwardly smiling at each other without quite making eye contact. Your pulse is racing in your ears and you know it’s not the coffee.
“Would you like to join me?” You’re not quite sure where the offer comes from but you gesture to the chair on the other side of your table before you can help yourself. Seokjin’s eyes widen behind his lenses at your question and he looks at the chair with an expression that could be either pained or offended - you’re not quite sure.
It takes a few seconds for you to remember that he’d ordered his drink to go, the takeaway cup taunting you from his hand as he shifts his weight from foot to foot and now you’re not sure whether to hastily backtrack or just wait for him to reject you.
“Never mind-”
“I’d love to-”
You blink at each other when you speak at the same time, but luckily Seokjin blesses you with a chuckle rather and breaks the tension holding your heart hostage.
“I wouldn’t be disturbing you?” he asks, and when you shake your head with a smile he takes the seat.
“You don’t have to, if you’re busy?” You point to his cup, wondering where he’d been planning on going with it, wondering if there was maybe a partner waiting for him somewhere on the street outside.
“Oh, no, I’m not busy,” he fiddles with the lid on his cup, suddenly shy as he admits, “I don’t really like sitting in cafes alone, so I tend to just get it to go instead.” He hesitates and then looks up at you, his gaze steady despite the blush of pink creeping down the side of his neck. “But I guess I’m not alone this time, though, am I?”
“You’re not,” you agree, delighting in the way his lips transform into the most adorable smile you’ve ever seen on a grown man. You decide then and there that, even if it’s only for today, you’re going to try and keep that smile on his face for as long as possible. Clearing your throat, you lean your arms against the table and meet his gaze when he looks over at you. “So, Seokjin-”
“Jin.”
“I’m sorry?”
“My friends call me Jin,” he clarifies and you feel another little skip in your chest, then he motions for you to continue speaking as he lifts his drink to take a sip and hide his own blushing cheeks.

Sonal Celebration: Day 5
Day 5 of the Sonic & Sally celebration hosted by @boundforfreedomsonsal and here is my contribution to the ‘Alternative Universe’ prompt, ENJOY!!
Alternative Universe:
[Author’s notes: Gonna be using the Reboot Archive-verse for this one; hopefully, you all will find it as good as my preSGW Archive-verse stuff. Minus one or two bits of altered history, there’s very little changed compared to my compulsion to exceedingly alter things in the preSGW timeline. Also, this one will push the PG-13 a bit (mostly due to constant nudity and implications), but I promise to keep it as tasteful as possible but the set up for this is too good to pass up.]
The first rays of sunlight managed to cut through the drawn white almost-see through curtains of the room. Small sunbeams touching a large bed in the middle of a moderately high-end hotel. The rays of light finally touched the face of a blue sleeping hedgehog, whose soft snoring slowly came to a halt as the light was enough to make his eyelid twitch and then finally open. The single eye narrowed before a hand reached from under the covers, and fumbled around at the nightstand, looking for something. Finding the object, a remote; a push of the button caused a thicker curtain to slowly draw close via a mechanical track system. Thus quashing the annoying light rays of the sun. Satisfied, Sonic placed the remote back on the nightstand and curled back into a comfortable position and tried to return to dreamland.
Yet a new sensation prevented sleep from returning to him. His sleepy brain at first had trouble deducing what was going on, he just knew his left ear felt wet- wait a minute. Blinking his eyes open, Sonic craned his head and glanced upward, finding a familiar chipmunk nibbling his ear gently. “Good morning Sal, must you do that every morning?” He softly grumbled in his greeting of the one sharing his bed.
The Princess softly giggled and merely began to ‘groom’ the fur around his ear. “I’m just indulging an innate urge native to my chipmunk and squirrel heritage.” Her playful tone oozed a mix of sass and snark, but also a tenderness only he and one other got to hear. “Is it wrong of me to love on or groom my boyfriend?”
With a sleepy yawn, Sonic managed a smile, “No, nothing wrong there, but can’t you do it when I’m not sleepy?”
The sassy Princess just smirked back, not backing down, and in retaliation, just held his ear between her teeth, causing him to shudder. “I can’t help it, it’s fun to tease you, plus it is almost noon.”
The blue hedgehog reached back his hand bumping her hip as he tried to reach for her fluffy tail but Sally angled her body so it was out of reach. “D-dirty pool Sal!” He squirmed as she started to chew on his ear again. “R-really dirty, didn’t you get enough lovin’ last night?”
Sally was not relenting and slid her arms around his chest, keeping him pinned as she held his very chewable and cute ear hostage. “I diiiiid, but that doesn’t mean I can’t just do this because I love you and I ca-aaaaaaaaaaaaaannn!!” She suddenly yelped and released his ear as she felt a hand grasp her fluffy tail and squeeze softly. Her yelp transforming into a partial moan as the hand continued squeezing and playfully toying with her fluffy appendage. “Aaah! N-Nicole?”
At her name, a third party in the bed slid up from her ‘hiding spot’ in the covers, appearing behind Sally. As if to mimic Sally, Nicole softly nipped at one of her ears, while still keeping a hand on her tail. “You rang Sally-sweetie? Sorry, but I saw you harassing my main Hog’ and I had to save him.” After a slight pause, she playfully added with a crooked smile. “Also this tail was wagging in my face, bad Princess. You know it makes Hedgehog’s and Lynx’s pounce Chipmunk’s.”
Pumping a fist, and now free of Sally’s nibbling, Sonic rolls onto his other side to face the two, smirking as he holds up his hand in the air. “Nicole my sweet cyber-lady gimme some love!”
“Always my main man’.” She happily returned the high five with a free hand, before their fingers latched together in a handhold.
Feigning hurt, Sally pouted with a quibble of her lip. “Et tu Nicole? I thought you were my girlfriend?”
Releasing Sally’s tail and bringing that arm around to tilt her chin, the Lynx leaned in to kiss her lips. “I am, but I’m also his girlfriend, and you were being a Princess bully.” The matter-of-fact way the line was delivered, made Sonic snicker and Sally roll her eyes.
“I am not a Princess bully, and I’ll remember this next time he picks on you.” Arms crossed, Sally huffed, but a quiver of her lip hinted she was being playful and barely held back snickering at her own BS.
After releasing Nicole’s hand, Sonic put that hand to his chest as he sat up in bed. “Moi? Pick on Nicole? For shame Sally, why would I do that? She’s still getting used to her bio-nanite body, I’d be cruel to use my advanced knowledge of pranking on her.”
Both females stared at him with raised eyebrows and expressions unique to each other, that spoke volumes of how much they did not believe him. After a few moments of staring, the trio breaks out into sputters and then full-blown laughter. As their laughter died down, the three gave each other a hug, a kiss and then climbed out of bed.
Stretching, Sonic picked up the remote and had the thick curtain drawn to let sunlight in and so they could see the view outside. As he started to do a few post-wake-up stretches his mind wandered a bit, musing on recent events. After the Dark Gaia/Planet Break incident had been dealt with; the United Federation and other agencies against Eggman, helped the Freedom Fighters tow the Freedom Stormer to a coastal city where a G.U.N. controlled harbor and shipyard were stationed. As a thank you, for their efforts in helping fix the planet and stop Dark Gaia; G.U.N. offered the use of the shipyard to repair the Freedom Stormer. In the meantime, they would be set up at a hotel, on the U.F. 's tab with meals comped on top. Rather generous but none of the Freedom Fighters saw a reason to turn down the offer.
Tails and Rotor often would go to the shipyard to continue repairs, either by themselves or with Nicole or in some cases, help from the shipyard staff depending on what part of the flying vessel was being worked on. For the two tech-savvy inventors repairing the Stormer WAS a vacation, especially as they could get parts to do upgrades they had been pondering installing for a time. Oh, they still took some time to relax at the resort, but they were very content working at their craft.
Bunnie and Antoine decided to use the free time to have as they put it ‘extended honeymoon’ as their original one got cut short thanks to Eggman’s scheme of the week at the time. A sentiment everyone supported and so the two were spending most of this ‘mini-vacation’ by themselves for obvious reasons.
Big simply enjoyed being able to fish from the docks or the local beach. Give the big guy a chance to fulfill his pastime and he was content.
Amy went to visit her cousin who they found out was in the next town over. Some guy named Rob whose wife had just delivered their firstborn and Amy was keen to see the new baby. Cream and Cheese went with her, the young rabbit eager to see the newborn herself and enjoy the free time with one of her favorite people.
As for the three of them; well they would help with the Freedom Stormer repairs sometimes; especially Nicole as she would download herself back into the Stormer’s systems and help figure out what still needed fixing or simply help. Other times she would be helping Sally with her workload.
Speaking of Sally, she did what Sally did best when she wasn’t helping with getting the Stormer up and running, she was multitasking. Updating her Father, the King on what was going on, hosting holo-calls with allied leaders to discuss how to deal with Eggman while he was licking his wounds from this recent defeat. While Sonic usually found the ‘diplomacy’ a snore-feast he had to admit he enjoyed seeing Sally fired up and showing she had the chops as future Queen. Heck, she’d been pushing for the alliances to all really start some ‘info campaign’ to make sure the world knew just how far Dr. Eggman went since he was behind the whole planet breaking apart. Some stuff about ‘weakening his supporters' faith in him’ and stuff about ‘getting those still apathetic to the cause to see what will happen if they don’t all unite to stop the Eggman Empire’, etc, etc.
As for Sonic himself, when he wasn’t running, or doing what little grunt work he was capable of with the ongoing Freedom Stormer repairs; he was enjoying some needed downtime with Sally and Nicole. Especially since the three of them were keeping their ‘more than friends’ relations on the mum. Looking back at the two women who were gathering their discarded clothing items, he felt his cheeks redden at how things changed last night. In a really nice way, but well after focusing on saving the world and not being a werehog at night anymore, Sonic had not given things getting more intimate a thought, and they didn’t even go all the way last night. Just a lot of touching, kissing, and sleeping together without pajamas.
Then again when you nearly die for the umpteenth time and given how ‘close’ this last adventure was; in a way, he understood the need for something more. Whether or not they might cross the ‘next threshold’ anytime soon he didn’t know, but he wasn’t going to rush things. Some things were better taken the ‘slo-mo route’. Yet he doubted he would deny either of them if they sought more and everyone was in agreement. It was just one of those, see what may come situations with this three-way relationship.
Moving towards the window, he stared out at the lovely view facing the beach and a small stretch of beachside near the resort. The sun was up, and the world looked at peace, at least for the time being. One wouldn’t think the planet was in pieces last week. His smile slowly eased into a frown as a forlorn expression washed over his face as he recalled the ‘sacrifice’ made to fix everything. Okay maybe sacrifice was overkill, Chip wasn’t dead, he was just stuck inside the planet. Even with his assurances he could ‘feel and see’ them through the planet itself, it didn’t remove the sense of loss Sonic felt since the spirit returned to his duties. It hadn’t been that long Chip had been with them, but he left an impact and he’d become fond of the little guy.
“You gals think Chip’s okay? That he ain’t alone where he is?” He spoke suddenly, as he stared out the window. His words causing both Sally and Nicole to turn his way, their expressions almost mirroring Sonic’s as the loss of their friend hit them. Yet they each also carried concern for the blue hedgehog, since he was the one taking Chip’s return to the planet hardest. “I know he said he could, ‘feel’ through the world now that the Light and Dark Gaia were in balance and harmony was restored; that he wouldn’t be lonely like he was before; but… I worry he just said that to make it easier for us.”
He felt two pairs of arms wrap around him from behind, not an easy task with his quills, but Sally and Nicole seemed to have picked up the best way to go for a double hug without any quills jabbing into him. After a sigh exhaled from his throat, he rested a hand on each of theirs. “Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer, I just miss the little guy.”
Placing a kiss to his right cheek, Sally warmly nuzzled him as she craned her head so their eyes met. “It’s okay to feel that way Sonic, we all miss him in our own ways, and out of all of us you bonded to him the most.”
“You got him excited to see the world to understand the planet he was meant to protect and serve in his role. Not unlike how two certain someone’s did so for me.” Murmured Nicole as she rested her chin on Sonic’s shoulder, her fingers curling in his chest fur, a habit Sonic noticed that the lynx had picked up. “You inspired him to be the best he could, to find the courage inside he felt he lacked. Take it from me Sonic, even if he’s stuck within the planet, he knows he’s not alone and that he has you, and the rest of us as his friends.”
“I hope so, I really hope so Nicole.” As another sigh left him, the hedgehog slowly began to smile again as he leaned against the two women in his life. “Then all the more reason to kick Eggman’s keister so Chip doesn’t have to fret about some other horror being unleashed, and maybe, when all’s clear we can see him again.”
“That’s the spirit Sonic.” Cheered Sally as she squeezed him before taking his right arm and nudging him to follow. “Come on, the three of us should clean up, and that shower should easily handle three Mobian’s given it’s designed with humans in mind as well.” Her blue eyes twinkle with a bit of mischief as she smiled more. “I wash your back, you wash mine?”
“I call dibs on the tail!”
Laughing at Nicole’s outburst, Sonic shook his head, before giving the lynx a grin. “Fine you get the tail I’ll get the top!”
“Deal!” The lynx clasped hands with Sonic, a deal was struck.
Feeling a bead of sweat start to roll down the side of her face, Sally suddenly started to regret her suggestion. “Uh guys, WHA-?!” She cried out as she was lifted up into the air, Nicole holding her up by her feet, while Sonic held her up with his hands grasping under her arms. “N-now we shouldn’t get crazy the others will start to wonder if we’re late-.”
“Assuming they ain’t sleeping in themselves after all this is a vacation as much as recuperation from all the fighting.” The lynx sing-songed with a cheerful hum as she helped Sonic carry Sally to the bathroom. “We’ll behave and stick to just washing.”
“Maybe.” Sonic mused, earning a giggle from Nicole while Sally rolled her eyes, but smiled warmly.
“I love you goofs, and since you’re adamant, very well your Princess awaits her washing!”
The three share a laugh as Sonic uses his foot to kick the bathroom door shut. The worries of the future put aside as the three opted to share what time they could in this sort of blissful state. At any moment Eggman or his Egg Bosses could start a new incident and put their moment of peace out of commission. Sometimes, you just had to live a little.
[Author notes: Not very originally using the Post-SGW Reboot setting; but every time I tried to create some new alt-verse or one something of the prior ones; it just… Wasn’t working. So I decided to give this a go and rather enjoy it.
Also, I shamelessly do not regret my Sally/Nicole/Sonic shipping of the Reboot verse. So I decided to use it; and while in-story I didn’t explain it as to avoid killing the pacing here’s the 411 on Nicole having a ‘bio-nanite body’.
After restoring her hand-held, learning of her origins and stopping Phage, Dr. Ellidy before the crew left his lab revealed he had one other project that was to coincide with Nicole’s original purpose of being the digital repository of his daughter Nikki’s mind and memories. A pod containing a cluster of bio-nanites coded with Mobian Lynx DNA, that when given a brain to link with, could create a solid, actual living form. Granted it would still be a blend of natural and artificial but you’d have a living being able to experience the majority of the living experience. While still at odds with his feelings for Nicole; he feels Nikki would want Nicole to have all the chances to ‘have a full, and wonderful life and experiences’. So he gave the pod to the FF, and after some tinkering, Nicole downloaded herself into it and later emerged. Nicole was herself still but now with a body beyond hard light holograms. Yet she was still able to digitize herself and return to cyberspace and come back. Cue all the happiness.
As for the menage a trio, I may….revisit this and give them a fuller story and explanation. Hope it was good and sorry for the fatty A/N I just felt having to go over all this in-story would kill the pace.]

My Everything - Part Sixteen
A Take it Slow Sequel
What happens with Harry and Y/N after he proposes? How will the two navigate the engaged life while also continuing to juggle their jobs, friends, and families? Let’s find out.
Warnings: fluff, smut, and angst
Words: 4.6K
a/n: it’s back! thank you all for your patience, I’ve that written for a bit, but it felt good to take a break and work on some other things. I hope you enjoy this part!
Masterpost
“You’re having another?!” Nannie shrieks through the phone.
“Yeah! We’re going to find out the sex soon, we’ve just been waiting until my first trimester is done.”
“How have you been feeling this time around?”
“I was really nauseous in the beginning, but now I’m fine not too bad.”
“I’m so excited for you.”
“We’re going to tell Jack soon.”
“He’ll be a great big brother, honey.”
“Thanks, Nannie.”
You speak with her a few minutes longer before hanging up. You wrap up things in your office before heading to the day care to pick up Jack.
“Mumma!” He exclaims.
“Hi, baby. You ready?”
“Mhm, look!” He holds up a drawing for you.
“Oh, that’s very nice. Should we put it on the fridge when we get home so Daddy can see it?”
“Yes!”
You get Jack in his car seat and get him home. You sit in the living room to grade some papers while he watches TV. Harry said he’d come home with pizza tonight.
“Babe!” You hear him call. He rests the pizza on the kitchen counter before coming into the living room. “Hi.” He smiles.
“Daddy!”
“Hey, buddy.” He kisses Jack’s head, and then kisses yours before sitting down. “How are you today?”
“Oh, I feel great, actually.”
“A couple more weeks, right?” He rubs your lower belly. Jack watches Harry and gets up to do the same thing to you. You can’t help but giggle.
“Jack…do you wanna know why Daddy rubs Mumma’s belly so much?” You ask him and pick him up to put him in your lap.
“Why?” You look at Harry and he nods.
“It’s because I’m growing a baby in here.”
“A baby?”
“Mhm, Daddy and I wanted to give you a little brother or sister. Would you like that?”
“Yes!”
“You’d have someone to play with, just like at day care.” Harry explains. “But it takes time for the baby to grow, so Mumma’s belly is gonna keep getting bigger.”
“When will baby come?”
“In the spring.” You say.
“We’re going to find out if it’s a boy or girl soon, Jack.” Harry says. “Our family’s growin’.”
“Growin’.” He repeats. You and Harry giggle.
“But that also means you might need to help us. Mumma’s gonna be really busy when baby comes.” Harry explains.
“Busy?”
“Mhm, she may not have as much time for kisses and cuddles.”
“But it doesn’t mean I don’t love you.” You interject. “The baby will just need extra kisses and cuddles. You’ll be able to help with that, honey.”
“I will?”
“Mhm, because you give the best kisses and cuddles.” You tickle his tummy and it makes him giggle. “Come on, Daddy brought pizza home for dinner. Let’s eat.”
//
You kept your doctor’s appointments on Fridays so you wouldn’t have to worry about Jack needing to come with you. It was also an easy day for Harry to come meet you. Just like last time, you were gaining weight in your belly first before anywhere else, and in your boobs.
“Okay, are you two ready to know what you’re having?” Dr. Johnson asks you. You both nod yes. “Looks like this time around…it’s going to be a girl!”
Both you and Harry burst into happy tears. You had no idea what you’d name a girl. You were so sure with Jack. You’d really have to think about this one.
“A little girl, I can’t believe it.” Harry wipes his eyes. “I can’t wait to tell my mum.” He opens the car door for you and gets into the driver’s seat.
“I know! What are you thinking for names?”
“Did you wanna keep a J theme? What about, like, Jessica Rose?”
“You sure came up with that fast.” You laugh. “I like that, though. Jessica Rose. Jack and Jessica. It’s cute.”
“That’s what I thought. We don’t need to decide right now though. We can think it over.”
Harry pulls up to the day care at your university and tells you he’ll go inside to get Jack. It would be a nice surprise since Harry never picked him up. He got a few looks as he walked in. It’s not like he was the only parent with tattoos, so he just chalked it up to the fact that he’s literally been to the day care twice.
“Daddy?!” Jack comes running over to Harry, and he scoops him up.
“Are yeh surprised?”
“Yeah!” Jack nuzzles into Harry.
“Oh, hi Mr. Styles.” One of the day care workers says to him. “Almost didn’t recognize you.”
“Hi there, uh, I’m sorry I don’t remember your name.”
“Haley.” She smiles.
“Right, sorry.”
“Where’s your wife?”
“In the car. We had to meet up for something earlier, so I thought it would be nice if I came in to get him since it’s so rare. How was he today?”
“Oh, just fine. He’s always so good.”
“Got everything, Jack?”
“Mhm.”
“Alright, mummy and Buster are in the car, we better not leave ‘em out there. Bye, Haley, thanks.”
Some of the other day care workers come over to her.
“So that’s where he gets the curls from.”
“God, Dr. Y/L/N is so lucky!” Haley groans. “To be honest I always thought she was divorced since she doesn’t have the same last name as Jack.”
“Oh, lots of people don’t change their names nowadays, come on.”
“She never talks about him either, that’s all I’m saying.”
“Not all parents have the time to stay and chat. Come on, we need to clean up.”
//
Jack babbled on about day care and the things he drew, and the leaves he got to play in outside. When you got him inside you sat him down in the living room.
“Jack, today Daddy and I went to the doctor to find out if you’re having a baby brother or sister. Would you like to know?”
“Yes!”
“You’re gonna have a baby sister, buddy.” Harry beams.
“Baby sister.” Jack pats your tummy and it nearly makes you weep.
“That’s right, my darling boy.” You coo. “Got a little girl in here.”
“How?”
“Babies come from mummy’s tummies.” Harry explains.
“But how does baby get in Mumma’s tummy?” Harry’s face goes pale, and he looks at you.
“Isn’t he a little young to be askin’ that?”
“He’s just curious.” You shrug. “Um, Jack, when two people, uh, love each other…well I shouldn’t say that because sometimes people don’t love each other…”
“Y/N, he doesn’t need to know the complexities of that.” Harry chuckles. “We can be cute about it, he’s only two.” Harry pulls Jack into his lap. “Jack, when two people love each other a lot, like Mummy and I do, they’re able to turn that love into a baby. In fact, Mummy grew you in her tummy, just like how she’s doin’ with baby sister.”
“You did?!” He says to you.
“Mhm, hold on.” You take out your phone and find a picture of when you were pregnant with Jack. “See, that’s you in my tummy.”
“Wow!” He gazes at the photo. You swipe to one right after he was born.
“And this was you as a baby. You were so tiny.” You pout at him.
Jack loses interest and slides off of Harry’s lap. He get his box of blocks and spreads them out to play with.
“He’s not even going to remember what you said, and what you said was so nice.” You pout at Harry.
“It’s okay, I’m sure that won’t be the only time he asks us.” He laughs.
//
You kept waking up around four in the morning, almost in anticipation for Harry’s 5AM alarm to go off. Although, he always stayed in bed until 5:45. He’d shower, take Buster out, make up Jack’s lunch box, and out the door he’d go.
You were reaching that point in your pregnancy where your only real craving was Harry. It was difficult, though, to find the time. You were busy with Jack the second you’d get him home. You needed to get him dinner, a bath, and then to bed. Then after bed you would use the quiet to grade or make sure your lessons were good to go. You had a home office to get your work done in, and Harry would do his best to leave you be.
As you looked over at him sleeping peacefully, you felt guilty for wanting to wake him up. He was just as tired as you. It was nearing the end of October, and Jack loved playing in the leaves, so when Harry would get home from work, Jack would beg him to go outside and jump around in the piles. Harry had a tough time saying no, especially since he missed Jack all day long.
When Harry’s alarm goes off, you watch him grab his phone to hit snooze, and then he mindlessly rolls over to reach for you and pull you close like his did most mornings.
“Harry.” You whisper.
“Mm.” He grunts and furrows his brows. “Don’t need to be up yet.”
“I’ve been awake for a while.”
“Why?” He says, eyes still closed.
“Because…I…want you.” You say in a half whine half pout. His eyes snap open to meet yours. “I’m restless.”
“Would you let me sleep a little longer? You can take a shower with me in a bit.”
“Oh.” Your eyes burn with tears. You turn your face so he doesn’t see. You felt slightly rejected, and maybe you were taking it a little more personally than you normally would.
“I’m just really tired.”
“Okay.”
He closes his eyes again and settles. He hears you sniffle and he sighs. He looks back up at you and sees the tears trickle down your cheeks.
“Y/N.” Harry sits up slightly. “Alright, I’m awake now.”
“And now you’re upset with me.”
“I’m not, come here.”
“No.”
“I thought you wanted to-“
“You don’t even really want me right now and it would just feel like a force. I’m sorry for waking you.” You sit up and cross your arms.
“I do want you, I just wanna be able to give you what you need and I can’t do that when I’m not fully awake. I’m awake now, so-“
“Just forget it.” You rip the blanket away and get out of bed.
“Where are you going?!”
“I’m gonna go put breakfast together and make your coffee. Go back to sleep if you want.” You huff. You throw your robe on and leave the bedroom.
Harry sighs heavily and looks at the clock; 5:15. There was still time. He gets up and goes down the stairs to the kitchen, the smell of fresh coffee hitting his nostrils. You were starting the electric kettle to make some oatmeal but he stops you.
“Don’t be like this.” He says, cupping your cheeks. “It kills me.”
“I can’t help it, I’m sorry.” You sniffle again. “I feel disgusting all the time with all the changes my body is making again, so when you don’t jump at the chance to frisk me…I get a little self-conscious.”
You bury your head in his chest and he wraps his arms around you. He kisses the top of your head, and pulls you back to look at you.
“You know I think you get more beautiful every day.” He kisses your forehead. “Let me take you back upstairs. I was just groggy before, I’m awake now. Let me love on yeh, hm?”
“You really want to? You’re not just saying that?”
“I really want to. I can’t remember the last time we actually fucked. It’s a shame.”
He leads you back upstairs and gets all of your clothes off. He strips himself of his pajama bottoms as well and joins you on the bed. He has you lay down and he kisses you all over, which makes you giggle. Things stop being funny when his fingers run along your slit. His middle finger slips inside, making your head roll back and your toes curl. His thumb works your clit and a breathless moan leaves your lips.
“This what you’ve been needin’, angel?”
“Yes.” You whine.
“Poor thing.” He pouts and then smirks at you. “Must be so difficult wanting to fuck your husband all the time, hm?”
“Harry, now really isn’t the time to tease me, okay?”
“Really? I think it is. Still got plenty of time before I need to hop in the shower, thought I’d have a little fun.”
He slips another finger in and curls the both of them up. He kisses on your chest, and sucks on the skin right above your breast. Your eyes widen. Harry didn’t really leave marks on you anymore. You both were getting older, after all. You gasp as his teeth sink in further and he groans as he feels you becoming more and more wet. He lets go and grins as he watches your skin turn purple. He uses his other thumb to rub over the mark.
“Why’d I ever stop doin’ that? Purple really is one of your colors, love.”
“Harry.” You groan as his thumb rubs harsh circles on your clit.
“Distracted are we?”
His fingers pump in and out of you faster, your nails grasp at the sheets and you nearly scream at the orgasm you have. He uses his free hand to cover your mouth.
“Shh, don’t want him wakin’ up, right?” You nod your head slowly.
“Okay then.” He removes his hand and kisses you.
Your hands run through his hair as he positions himself over you, lining his hard cock up with your center. He swallows your moans as he pushes inside. You wrap your legs around Harry’s waist and pull him as close as you can, heels digging into the back of his thighs. He uses one of his hands to knead your breast. You grab it to slide up to your throat.
“Really? That won’t stress you out?” He grunts as he thrusts in and out of you.
“No.”
He gets a decent grip on you where he knows you like it, and your eyes roll into the back of your head. You practically claw at his back which you know he likes. He craved the scratch marks. He lets go of your throat, before you can complain he’s grabbing your legs and throwing them over his shoulders. You both were looking directly at each other.
“Harry.”
“Y/N.”
“Oh my god, fuck!” Your back arches as you come to another release.
He fucks you through it, coming to his own release. He nearly collapses on top of you, but goes to your side instead. It takes you both a minute or two to catch your breaths.
“Might take you up on that shower, you got me all sweaty.” You giggle.
“Good.” He kisses you and gets up. “Who needs coffee when a good shag with your wife is enough to get you goin’ for the day?”
He helps you off the bed and into the shower.
“Love you so much.” He coos as he washes your back.
“Love you too.”
//
Jack decided he wanted to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween. It was the perfect family dress up. You looked extremely cute as a turtle, especially with your bump growing. Niall and Sarah were having their annual party. You and Harry walk Jack up and down your street to take him trick or treating before heading to the party.
Harry inspects all of the candy when you get home. He allows Jack one piece. Your doorbell rings to let the babysitter in.
“Hi Becca.” You smile at her. “Come on in.”
“Thanks! Love the outfit Mrs. Styles.”
“Oh, thanks. It was all Jack’s idea. Harry! Becca’s here!”
“Alright, alright.” He comes into the kitchen. “Jack’s just fallen asleep. Feel free to watch TV, eat whatever yeh like in fridge, all that.”
“Thanks, Mr. Styles. Have a good time at your party.” She smiles, and out the door you two go.
“She’s a sweet girl, I’m glad we found her.” You say.
“Me too. Thank god for Sarah and her connections.”
Niall nearly pisses himself when he sees the two of you.
“This takes the cake, you two always have the best costumes.”
Harry has a couple drinks, but refrains from getting too crazy since you couldn’t drink. You were having fun catching up with your friends. You told them you were having a girl. You feel your phone buzz in your pocket and you see Becca’s name.
“Becca?!” You go to a more private part of the house.
“Hi, Mrs. Styles, um, I think Jack is sick.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well I heard something on the baby monitor and went up to check on him and he threw up in bed, and-“
“We’ll be right there!” You hang up and look around. “Harry!”
“What’s up, gorgeous?”
“Jack’s throwing up! We need to get home!”
You rush out of the party without saying goodbye and Harry follows you. You jog as fast as you can, bypassing teenagers out still trying to get candy. Harry was right behind you. You burst through the door and find Becca cradling Jack to her.
“Mumma!” He cries.
“Becca, I am so sorry.” You take Jack from her. “Was it just the one time?”
“Yeah, I stripped his bed and threw everything in the wash. I put new pj’s on him too.”
“Thank you so much.” Harry says to her. He reaches into his pocket for his wallet and pays her. “Here.”
“This is way more than-“
“For your troubles.” He smiles.
“Feel better, Jack.” Becca leaves and you look at Harry distressed.
“He’s burning up. I don’t understand he was perfectly fine earlier.”
“Tummy hurts, Mumma.”
“I know, baby.” You kiss his forehead. “Harry, can you open up a ginger ale, I have the caffeine free kind in the fridge.”
“Yeah.”
He opens it and puts a straw in. He holds it up for Jack.
“Slow sips, honey.” You look at Harry. “I’m gonna run him a bath, I think he’s scared from getting sick. He should sleep with us tonight too.”
Before Harry can say anything you take Jack upstairs. He follows you up to the bathroom and stops you from starting the bath.
“What are you doing?”
“He doesn’t need a bath, look at him he’s falling back asleep. Maybe the candy we let him have didn’t agree with his stomach.”
“But his forehead.”
Harry grabs a thermometer from the cabinet and puts it in his ear.
“See, no temp. He’s probably just sweaty.”
“I want him to sleep with us.”
“Okay.”
Harry scoops Jack up and gets him tucked into your bed while you remake his. You get your costume off and look at Harry.
“Aren’t you going to change?”
“I, uh, was havin’ a pretty good time at the party…” He rubs the back of his neck.
“You want to leave?”
“Well…he’s fine, right?”
“Right.”
“And you’re probably tired anyways, so you’ll stay here with him, and-“
“And you’ll go have fun.”
“Y/N.” He sighs. “We haven’t had a night out in forever, Niall’s party is still goin’ on, I’d like to go back for a bit. Why does this need to be a big thing?”
“It’s not. Goodnight.” You turn the light off and leave him standing in the dark.
He knew he should probably stay, but he was sort of buzzed and wanted to go fuck around with his friends. So he walked back to Niall’s. Everyone asked what happened and he explained that Jack just had a stomach ache, and you were handling it. He had the fun he was looking for, and headed back to the house a couple of hours later. When he got up to the bedroom he saw Buster sleeping in his spot on the bed.
“Don’t you dare move him.” You whisper.
“He’s in my spot.”
“Not your spot tonight.”
“Where would you like me to sleep then?”
“Anywhere but this bed, Harry Styles.” You huff and roll over.
He groans, but doesn’t want to wake Jack up, so he goes down the hall and passes out in the guest room. The other one was slowly being turned in your little girl’s nursery. The next morning he gets up and hears you giggling with Jack.
“You scared me, wasn’t very nice.” He hears you say to Jack. He leans against the door frame to watch you.
“Sorry, Mumma.”
“I don’t think we’ll be having candy before bed again.”
“Okay.” Jack snuggles up to you and rubs your belly like how Harry does all the time. “Morning baby sister.”
“Good morning big brother.” You say and stroke his head. You look up and see Harry standing and frown at him. “Look, Jack, it’s Daddy.”
“Daddy!” Jack bounces off the bed and runs over to Harry. “Pancakes? Please!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll make pancakes. Want pancakes, Mummy?”
You simply stand up and go into the bathroom. Harry sighs and whistles for Buster. He lets him out in the backyard, and gets Jack washed up for the morning. He sets Jack in his booster seat while he whips up the pancakes. He cuts them up for him and sits down to watch him eat.
You come down fresh as a daisy. Your hair was done and you had make up on.
“What are you all dolled up for?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” You scoff.
“I get it, you’re upset because I went back to the party, but-“
“I’m upset because you didn’t even seem to care that our son could have had the flu or something!” You take a deep breath. “I’m going out.”
“Where?” You blink at him. “When will you be back?”
“Funny, you didn’t say when you’d be back from the party. I didn’t fall asleep until you strolled in after midnight.”
“Y/N, I need to know where you are, come on.”
“I’m going to have brunch with the girls. I don’t know when I’ll be back. You don’t really seem to care about your pregnant wife, so please don’t pretend like you do.”
You give Jack a kiss on the top of his head, and out the door you go.
“I think today’s gonna be a chore day, Jack. Uh…Mummy likes when we help out.”
“Okay.” The boy shrugs and finishes up his pancakes.
//
Your brunch with Sarah and Rachel was much needed. They were on your side, but they also helped you see Harry’s side of things. You couldn’t blame him for wanting to go be with his friends, but you were pissed at the way he went about it. It was good for you to let off some steam. The three of you go to the mall and they help you pick out some new maternity outfits.
When you get home the house is quiet. You go out back and see Jack playing on the swing set, Buster sitting in the shade, and Harry mowing the lawn. He had to have done this on purpose, he knew it was your weakness. He had his yard sneakers and jeans on, that was it. Oh, and his red bandana to hold his hair back. You look at Jack who also had a bandana to hold his hair back.
“Mumma!” Jack exclaims and runs towards you.
“Hi, precious, are you having fun with Daddy?”
“Mhm.” You pick him up and adjust him to your hip.
Harry stops the mower and comes over to you. He guzzles down the water he left outside for himself.
“A bit cold to be shirtless, don’t you think?”
“We raked the leaves first, I’m sweatin’ my ass off with all this yard work.” He huffs.
“Ohh, Jack you helped Daddy with the leaves?”
“Mhm, I’m a big boy.” You burst out laughing and kiss his cheek. You set him down and he runs back over to the swing set.
“A big boy, huh?”
“It was the only way I could get him to help.” He rolls his eyes. “He did look cute with his little rake, I have to say.”
“Looks cute with the bandana too.”
“He whined until I put it on him. Said he wanted to look just like me.”
“Hopefully he won’t feel the same about the tattoos.” You smirk.
“I feel really bad about last night. I shouldn’t have gone back out.”
“Perhaps I also overacted.”
“You didn’t, I was being an asshole.”
“I was just more upset that something could have been wrong with him and you didn’t care.”
“I did care, but I was trying to stay calm. I could see you freaking out, I was trying to keep the situation handled. He was fine.”
“I know.”
“Did you have fun with the girls?” He wraps his arms around you.
“Yes.”
He leans into kiss you, but gets interrupted.
“Don’t be gross, Daddy.” Jack tugs on Harry’s pant leg.
“I think it’s time for your nap.” Harry picks Jack up and he fusses with him, but ultimately settles.
You’re sitting on the couch with Buster when Harry comes back down.
“I need to finish the lawn.”
“Okay.”
“When I come back in, though, can we make up?”
“I’d like that.” You blush slightly as you smile at him.
He smirks and goes back out to finish up the lawn. You look around and see he did a bit of tidying up. You were grateful. When he comes inside he uses the t-shirt in his back pocket to wipe his face.
“I know yeh showered already, and you look so pretty, but-“
“How about a bath?”
Harry perks up and practically sprints up the stairs. He gets it going and you put your hair up to not get it wet. Once it’s time to get in, you sit in front of him, and he wraps his arms around you. He gives you kisses on the back of your neck and shoulders. He peppers kisses to your cheek and it makes you giggle. You both sort of lost track of time while you were in there. Harry was just about to start rubbing your clit when you heard the pitter patter of feet. Both of your eyes grow wide when you see the mop of curls standing in front of you. You both used to bring Jack into the bath with you all the time, but he was starting to get a little big for that now.
“Tubby?” He asks, rubbing his eyes.
“Uh, yeah, Jack, Mummy and Daddy needed a tubby.” Harry says. “You know, you should really stay in your room and wait for us.”
“Had to wee, Daddy.”
“Did you make it to the potty?” You ask him.
“Yes.” He beams.
“Good. Jack, why don’t you color in your room until we’re done, okay?” You tell him.
“Okay!” You hear him run down the hall to his room.
“Alright.” You sigh and look back at Harry. “We can continue this later.”
“He can color on his own for a bit.”
“I’m nervous about him swallowing a crayon or something.”
Harry hums in agreement and helps you up. You both get cozy in some sweats. You both color with Jack for a bit before getting him his after nap snack. Harry whips up a strifry for dinner while you do some grading. You both put your baby boy to bed. Harry reads him a story and does all of the funny voices Jack likes. Even with the tension this morning, it was a nice day as a family.
Harry brings you to the bedroom to take advantage of the time now that Jack was asleep.
“See, this is what we should be doin’ instead of watchin’ TV.”
You giggle as he kisses on you.
“You’re right. I’ve been needy for you for hours.”
“Really?” He smirks.
“Mhm.” You wrap your arms around his neck.
“Well, let’s just take care of that, shall we?”

Past Trauma
Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Reader
Summary: Something bad happens at work and you finally spill about your past trauma to your boyfriend
A/N: This fic is kinda self projecting, so it’s gonna be kind of specific. Don’t worry, I’m fine, I just needed a way to vent and well, this was my way. Also, I’ve only really watched clips and seen odd episodes of Chicago P.D so sorry if Adam seems a pic OOC. He’s my fav and I really wanted to write something for him for so long and I just got impatient XD
I DO NOT OWN CHICAGO P.D OR MED THIS IS MERELY FANFICTION
Warnings: Abuse, graphic writing (Kinda?), thoughts of suicide, I think PTSD? (I would say PTSD just in case) Self-hatred (It’s a pretty dark fic, but it takes a more wholesome turn at the end)
(This gif seemed appropriate)
You and Adam had started dating a little over three years ago.
You had travelled from beyond the great blue to America for a new experience after medical school then ended up working in Chicago Med because you had “fallen in love with the windy city”
You had caught Adam’s attention straight away and after about three months of trying to get your attention, you finally agreed to go on a date with him. You were new to the whole scene, dating, flirting- everything, as you had been busy trying to get your life together before even thinking about bringing someone else into it and well, he was happy to help you into it. You were a great character, friendly, smart, considerate of those around you, playful and Adam had thought himself a lucky guy when he had finally bagged you.
Though he knew you were hiding things from him, no, not that you were cheating or had fallen out of love, much deeper things. You didn’t like to talk about your family life, you had mentioned your mother (A wonderful woman who he had met when she visited for Christmas) your closest friends, a chaotic but loving bunch, others here and there, but you didn’t go farther than that. You deliberately skipped moments in your life, you had bad days where you didn’t contact anyone and when he tried to get closer, you dodged him about the subject.
He understood everyone had their demons, but yours almost seemed to consume you and he always worried, it was a surprise your secrecy hadn’t caused any damage to the relationship but you had a way with your words and he loved you so much (something he admitted after a year of dating, the morning of your anniversary when he had stumbled in on you eating Oreos at 3 in the morning before he had slipped and told you that he loved you which resulted in you choking on a cookie)
He had hoped that one day, you would tell him about the thoughts in your head and well, the day had finally come.
There had been a brawl in the emergency bay at Chicago Med and he and Kevin had been sent over to investigate the disturbance. The scene hadn’t been too chaotic, but he would be lying if he said that there wasn’t a mess there. The suspect, a 19-year-old Lucia Carter, had been dragged out of the place in handcuffs, kicking and screeching loudly while blood dripped out of her nose accompanied with marks of an obvious scuffle on her face. Kevin had let out a low whistle at the damage as they walked by.
The detectives had approached the closest officer to ask about the details.
“Miss Carter is being apprehended for abuse, threats of murder and for assaulting a bystander” The young man had started “She came in when she found out her father had brought his son for a checkup after she had deliberately broken his arm, she started to get violent towards her parent and sibling, a doctor tried to interfere and it ended with them fighting. Security split them up eventually but it’s obvious that Miss Carter provoked the fight and that the doctor was protecting the victims so they won’t be charged”
“Alright, thank you”
Kevin had already begun talking with the father and the son, while Adam glanced around, hoping to catch a glimpse of your figure when only moments later, Sharon Goodwin had approached him, her face showing concern as she softly called for his attention. “Adam, please if you could come with me for a moment”
“Is there something wrong?” Adam asked, Kevin, glancing over at the sound of his partner’s voice.
“It’s about (Name)”
Adam’s eyes widened and he glanced back at Kevin, who promptly nodded in understanding before the detective and chief departed from the scene quietly to where you were being held.
“What happened?”
“Well, when Miss Carter began to get violent, (Name) decided to try and stop it but, from what I heard, Miss Carter slapped her and that’s what started the fight” Sharon started “It took two men to pry her off of Miss Carter and now, she’s not responding to anyone. Dr Charles is talking with her at the moment, well, trying, but he’s not getting very far, so we thought that it would be a good idea if you tried to talk with her”
The door to an employee lounge was pushed open to you and Dr Charles sitting opposite from one another. The older man was talking, his eyes only glancing towards Goodwin and Adam before settling back on you. You were deadly silent, staring ahead, straight through Dr Charles and your leg was bouncing with obvious tension.
It made Adam nervous, especially when he could see some blood on the cuff of your coat.
“(Name)” Charles’ voice was soft as he settled a hand on your knee, “Adam’s here to see you”
You still didn’t react.
“(Name)?”
Your leg movement stopped for a moment, before continuing, much faster now.
“We’ll give you two a moment” Charles and Goodwin closed the door behind them quietly while Adam settled next to you silently, his hand coming to rest on your arm before slowly sliding down to grip your hand. You didn’t resist, but you didn’t really respond either, just limply held his hand in your own.
“Hey,” he greeted, enclosing your hand with both of his and placing a small kiss onto on fingers. “I heard what happened-”
Now that he was closer, he could see the damage. You had your glasses on, the left lens was cracked and under, your eye was bruised and bloody, your lip was busted and there was a small laceration on your face with blood slowly dripping onto your coat. You didn’t pay any mind to it, you didn’t really seem to care, but Adam’s heart squeezed painfully at the sight. You were in a better state than Lucia Carter, but that didn’t matter.
“Is that what she did to you?” His hand moved to grab your chin, hoping to inspect your injuries further but you immediately jumped up, catching his wrist firmly in your hand, nails digging into the skin while still holding his other hand loosely. Your eyes were frantic, your breathing had picked up and you were shaking violently as you glared at him.”Woah, woah, it’s okay, you’re okay, it’s just me, it’s just Adam”
He was shocked, understandably so, but his eyes held a softness to them, one that was slowly helping you bring you back to reality.
Pained guilt flashed on your face and your hold on his wrist relaxed until it became limp and fell to your side “....I’m sorry…”
With a soft squeeze to your intertwined fingers, Adam tugged you back next to him “It’s okay”
“It’s not-” You tried to argue, but he shushed to gently before pressing a kiss into your hair.
“Can I hold you?”
“...Please”
His arm wrapped around your waist and tugged your closer, hugging you close to his figure as the two of you rocked back and forth gently, the man pressing soft kisses to where he could reach as he waited. Did he know what he was waiting for? No, but he knew you needed time and it would come out eventually.
And it did.
“I didn’t want it to turn out like that”
Adam glanced down at you “The fight?”
You hummed. “I didn’t want to make it any crazier than it was, but then she slapped me and I...I lost it”
“Why?” He couldn’t help but ask “You’re one of the most patient people I know”
“...She reminded me of my brother”
Adam stopped rocking and pulled back to look at you, watching as the look in your eyes twisted into something more, something dark and your lip curled in disgust.
“Brother? You’ve never mentioned you had a brother…”
“That’s because he isn’t” You growled, “He’s just a fucker that I’m related to”
It was then that Adam realised that this was what you had been keeping from him for so long, this was what he had been waiting for. He could see the tension that was building up in your system, the obvious hatred in your words and he decided that his curiosity could wait another day “You don’t have to explain-”
“I’ve kept this from you for three years, Adam” You looked him in the eye “You deserve an explanation and I can handle it, don’t worry”
He pulled your hand to his lips and kissed it gently “Okay, take your time”
A few moments, quiet, tense moments, but eventually, you took a deep breath, closed your eyes and squeezed his hand.
“My brother was an abusive arsehole that used to torment me and my mum. It wasn’t always like that, I can still remember the good days, but he changed when we got older; he became more narcissistic, more demanding, rougher- like his father, might I add” You spat the words with venom, pupils shrinking in hatred “That fucker wasn’t around either, he hurt my mum before she kicked his arse out, but oh boy, did I get the experience of him from my brother; like father like son, am I right?”
You had said it in a joking way, but he could hear that rage behind it. You continued “My brother got worse when my gran died, he got more physical, wasn’t afraid to throw me or my mum around and I fucking hated it. I fought back for a while, we both did, but it only ended with aches for the next day and bruised self-esteem, so I gave up, but my mother didn’t, she was- is, way too strong for that, shame I can’t say the same about me”
Tears gathered in your eyes “Once again, it got more shitty when he got a job. Called me and my mum lazy bitches, constantly complained, blamed us for anything and everything, it was a fucking nightmare. Mum couldn’t work because of health problems, which he thought were bullshit, and me, I was way too scared to interact with people to get a job”
With a whimper, you brushed away the tear that fell down your cheek. “I was scared, he made me scared, I used to be so open and happy, but he ruined that. My mental health declined, I was constantly sad, I hated myself, I still hate myself and it’s because of him!”
You were starting to sob, it was quiet at first, but the more you talked, the louder it became “I hated him so much, I still hate him! But he made me hate myself more! It wasn’t fair! Why was I the worthless one? When he treated us like that? Why did I have to become sad and angry and scared!? It’s not fair, Adam! I deserved to be happy! But he didn’t let me! I was a wreck in what was supposed to be the best years of my life, because of him!”
You were choking on your tears and Adam had tried to console you, but you weren’t finished “S-So when that boy came in with his father, I knew, I could tell. He looked so sad, so broken and so did the father. The man was terrified when I confronted him! He tried to defend her, he said that their mother had died and she was acting out! I told him that was no excuse, that both of them deserved better! And you know what he did? He fucking cried! He said he was ashamed of himself, letting his daughter become this monster, his own daughter beat him and he was more ashamed at that than the fact that he was getting hurt, that he was scared, that he needed to protect his son from his fucking sister. He said he wasn’t a good father, but he was trying. My mum said the same thing, that I deserved better, but I didn’t! She was the best! And so was this guy! He was kind, supportive, loved his children but he got fucked over by a stupid bitch that couldn’t keep her hands to her fucking SELF!”
You stood, kicking over the table in front of you two and Adam jumped up. He wanted to do something, to calm you down, to tell you he loved you, but you needed to get this out, you need to say this, so he waited.
“That boy is fucking ten! TEN-YEARS-OLD! AND HIS SISTER WAS DOING THAT TO HIM!? MOTHER FUCKING BITCH!” You kicked the table again and punched the wall “HE BLAMED HIMSELF, HE SAID THAT HE CAUSED IT, BUT IT WASN’T HIS FAULT, IT WAS HER FUCKING FAULT! And you know what else? HE SAID HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD! A TEN-YEAR-OLD, WANTED TO BE DEAD! SHE MADE HIM THINK THIS, SHE MADE HATE HIMSELF, MADE HIM WANNA KILL HIMSELF JUST LIKE- just like my brother had done to me”
You wrapped your arms around yourself, shaking violently as you stared at the floor “I wanted to kill myself, just like that little boy had, sometimes, I still do and-…. And so when she slapped me...I lost it, I wanted to kill her, right there and then, because at that moment, she wasn’t Lucia Carter, she was my older brother, so I didn’t hold back…”
You were crying hysterically, holding yourself tightly as you tried to calm yourself down, a keep the oncoming panic attack down. God, you didn’t dare face Adam, you didn’t want to see the expression he wore, you were already ashamed, of the outburst, of yourself, everything and one of the only good things going in your life had heard you go off like a demented bitch. You wanted so badly to melt into the floor, but you were merely reduced to hiding behind closed eyes and a mess of tears.
Then arms wrapped around you and your face was pressed against a shoulder.
“I love you” Adam declared, tightening his hold as you began to wail against his shoulder, wrapping your arms around him tightly as you did so “I love you, and I’m so sorry that you had to keep this to yourself for so long”
He pressed a kiss against your forehead, being wary of the wound.
“I’m sorry” You sobbed, “I’m sorry I kept this from you, I didn’t want you to see me differently, you’re one of the only good things going in my life, I didn’t want to lose you”
“I would never see you differently and you will never lose me” He whispered, “You’re strong, you’re smart, you’re so talented and you’re hot”
You laughed wetly against his shoulder “This just proves to me how amazing you are, and how lucky I am to have you. You’re so amazing and I am punching above my weight with you. I’m so glad to have you in my life and that’s never gonna change, babe, do you understand?”
You nodded against his shoulder, burying your face and inhaling his scent.
“So here’s what we’re gonna do” He raked his hand gently through your hair “We’re gonna get you checked out and patched up, talk to Dr Charles about these thoughts you’ve been having, head home, then order in some Chinese and just relax, okay?”
“Okay,” You pulled back a bit, eyes staring into his before leaning up and pressing a kiss against his lips. He kissed back softly, hand coming to hold the side of your jaw gently then pulling away and smiling at you “I love you so much”
“I love you too”
“Thank you for not thinking different of me”
He laughed and placed his forehead against yours “Never”
You smiled and intertwined your fingers.
You were lucky to have each other.

Jay Halstead- Chicago PD (Part 2)
"Where is he?"
"Close to Jay's appointment, it looks like he's waiting. There is an old abandoned building across the street. You dad was seen entering that building a few times today." Hank explained and I sucked in a deep breath.
"He knows you're here, he's waiting to see of I come home with you." I guessed.
"Jay come on, we can end this today." Hank insisted.
"I'm coming too." I stood up.
"What, no you're not." Jay argued but I ignored him.
"Hank, please, I have to be there." I told him.
"Do you still have you vest?"
"In my trunk." I nodded.
"Boss, you can't be serious?" Jay asked in disbelief.
"Her being there could be enough of a surprise to get the edge over him."
"He knows she's here, how is that a surprise?"
"Because if my dad was smart, and he is, he would have researched everyone on this team. Mostly you." I explained. Jay looked at me still not understanding.
"Jay, he knows you and he knows that you wouldn't let me go into a fight. Even now after a month after I broke your heart. He knows that I won't be there." Jay seemed to understand but he shook his head.
"Please, Y/N just, think about this. You've just sent blood tests off to confirm a pregnancy, you can't go running into a gun fight when there is a possibility you're carrying our child." He insisted.
"I'm sorry Jay, but I'm going in. That man has made my life hell for the first 24 years of my life. He killed my mum, my sister and older brother. He beat me everyday and when I had finally had enough I sent his ass to prison.
Then I left it all behind. I joined the CDP, I found a new family and I fell in love. I was happy, I was free and I was three months away for marrying the man I loved."I smiled sadly.
"Then he fucked all that up by threatening what family I had left."
"Y/N..." Jay began again but I shook my head.
"Jay, look at me." I told him and he turned, facing me. I looked up into his eyes.
"My dad is the worst type of man. He has made my life hell long enough. When we find him and I do me WE, I am going to be the one to pull the trigger and end it all." I told him.
"Then I am going to come back to Chicago for good and I am go fix everything my father broke."
I then grabbed me keys and bag then left. Hank and Jay following me.
I walked out of Med and over to my car where I pulled out my bullet proof vest, my CPD issued gun and my badge. I strapped my gun to my back, die hard style, and I pulled my vest over my head.
"Let's do this." I demanded.
"You're driving with me." Jay insisted and I nodded.
"Fine."
The car ride to the apartment we short and quiet until Jay finally spoke up.
"You said you were coming home when this is over." Jay began and I nodded.
"Yeah."
"Are you coming back to Chicago. Or are coming back to...back to me." He asked as he pulled up around the corner from where we spent the last two years living.
"Jay, I..." I began but I heard a gun shot and I duct, Jay too.
"Well, well, well...if it isn't my disobedient daughter." I heard a voice call. I looked to see my dad and three of his goons.
"If it isn't my murdering bastard father." I shot back.
"Step forward, let me get a look at you?" He instructed and I shook my head. Then the three goons aimed their guns at Jay and I stepped forward.
"What's the matter sweetheart. Don't you trust me?" My dad grinned evilly "losses the gun...and the vest. I shook my head but when I saw one of the three cock his gun I obeyed.
""Y/N stop!" Jay yelled but I ignored him.
"Its OK baby. That vest doesn't quiet sit right on you anyway." My dad encouraged. I through the vest and gun to the ground before I held up my hands.
"What do you want from me?" I asked but my dad shrugged.
"I want to ruin your life, like you ruined my when you gave me up to he police."
"I was 24 year old girl who still got beat on by her dad when she did something wrong. I watched you beat my brother to near death almost every night. I watched you kill my mum, my big brother AND my sister. I did what I had to do to keep me and my baby brother safe." I growled.
It was quiet for a minute the I saw the three goons on my dads side drop to the floor...CPD must be up on the roof.
My dad looked around confused. Then he grabbed his own gun and aimed it at me.
"You.. you no good, whore. What you think because you joined the CPD you were safe. Because you have a cop boyfriend I wouldn't find you. I have had my eye and killing you since the day I was locked up and now my day is finally here." My dad smirked.
"The next few seconds happened in slow motion. I watched his finger cock the gun and I reached backwards and grabbed the gun taped to my back. I pulled it over my head and with one clean shot I shot him inbetween the eyes.
Then everything stopped. The air got thick and I couldn't breath. I fell to the floor and tried my best to catch my breath.
"Y/N?...Y/N!" I heard Jay call but his voice sounded quiet and far away.
My breath was struggled and I chest was heavy.
"Y/N, what's wrong?" He asked and I looked up into Jay's eyes and for the first time in a month I smiled a real genuine smile.
"Jay, hey." I smiled up at him, feeling like I was all spacey.
"Are you OK?"
"It's over...it's all over." I felt tears run down my face and I felt a huge weight lifted of my shoulders.
"Yeah, it is." He chuckled as he lifted me up and wrapped an arm around my waist as he helped me steady myself.
"Thanks." I chuckled as I rested my head on his shoulder.
He walked me over to his car and sat me on the hood.
"Stay here. I'll be right back." He told me and I nodded. He kissed my fore head and ran off towards the commotion of people that had arrived without me realising.
I sat quite for a minute, watching Jay talk to various members of our team then finally he wondered over to Gabby.
Then I had a thought, I pulled out my phone and dialled my brothers number and waited. It was a while before he picked up and I felt myself tense up.
"Hello?"
"Hey baby bro." I sighed down the phone as once I heard his voice.
"Y/N, where are you? you were supposed to meet me here." My brother stuttered and I chuckled.
"It's over baby bro, you can go home."
"It's over?" He asked relief evident in his voice.
"Yeah, dad's dead." I told him. I could feel the weight lifting from both our shoulders as he breathed a sigh of relief.
"What happened?"
"He came after Jay and we found him before he could harm anyone."
"Good, I'm glad Jay's OK." My brother chuckled.
"Did you get things sorted between you two then?" He asked and I looked over to Jay who was talking to Gabby, my best friend and paramedic.
"I'm working on it kid." I smiled as Jay looked over and we locked eyes. He smiled back and I blushed a little.
"Good, I liked him, he was good to you. He made you happy." I smiled at my brothers reaction and nodded.
"Trust me kid, you have no idea." I smiled as I laid my hand on my belly that could potentially hold a baby.
"Listen, I have to go back to the hospital, see Will and figure out what happens next. Call me when you get home OK?" I ordered and my brother chuckled.
"I will do, love you sis."
"Love you too."
With that we hung up and I jumped of the hood of the car and walked over to Jay and Gabby who pulled me into I tight hug.
"I knew you wouldn't leave with out a good reason too." She told me once we pulled away. "I'm glad your back." She smiled.
"Glad to be back." I nodded before I turned to Jay. "We need to go back and see Will." I reminded him and he nodded.
"I'll text him, tell him to come to my...our place." He told me and I nodded taking his hand and walking over to our apartment building.
I followed Jay up to our floor and waited for him to unlock the door.
Jay opened the door and I was really surprised to find everything was the same. Nothing had been changed.
I walked into the apartment and ran my fingers across the wall, the sofa, the table, the photo of Jay and I will had taken the night we got engaged.
"I was so happy." I sighed picking the picture up, a tear rolling down my face.
"We had everything ahead of us, a whole happy life that had endless possibilities." I set the photo down and wiped the tears away, reminding myself that that was gone now.
"That's over now." I huffed sitting on the sofa.
"It doesn't have to be." Jay spoke up. I looked up in surprise.
"No Jay..." I began but I was interrupted by a knock at the door.
Jay walked over and opened the door to see Will stood there holding a piece of paper.
"You guys OK?" Will asked and I nodded, Jay shrugged.
"That depends on what you me by OK?" Jay spoke. Will and I looked at him confused so he continued.
"Will this morning started pretty normal, well normal for the past month." He started and I looked down guilty at my hands. "I got into work, I worked a case. Then I got a call from my dumb ass brother."
"Hey...that's me, I'm the dumb ass brother!" Will joked holding his hand up making the tension in the room dissipate a little.
"I go the the hospital to fine my ex fiance who walked out on me a month ago only to find out she didn't leave she was ran out if town."
"Jay.." I began but Jay only flung himself in the sofa next to me.
"Oh, and she might be pregnant."
"You OK Bro?" Will asked concerned. It was quiet for a second while Jay thought about it then he nodded.
"You know what, even after all that's happened today...I feel better than this morning. I finally have a reason as to why Y/N left and she's back." For some reason he seemed like he was on cloud nine.
Jay grabbed my hand in his and pulled it up to his lips, placing a kiss in the back.
I smiled up at him a little and he smiled back. It felt as if nothing had changed in the last month. It was just us and no body else.
That was until Will cleared his throat.
"You guys do remember I have news, right?"
"Right yeah, sorry." Jay chuckled.
"So?" I looked up at the Dr who nodded. He looked down at the paper and smiled.
"Congratulations, I'm gonna be an uncle." I smiled as he handed me the paper and I read over the results.
"Are you serious?" I asked shocked and he nodded.
Without even thinking I grabbed Jay and kissed him, hard. I felt right, like it was what had been missing for s long time and in truth it was.
"I'll leave you two to talk."
"Thank you will." I smiled up at him as i pulled away. He nodded slightly then left the apartment.
"So..." I began but was interrupted by Jay's lips against mine.
"I'm gonna be a dad."
"Yeah, you are." I agreed.
"Are you staying?" He asked, pulling back from me a little and I saw the fear in his eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere, ever again.." I assured him as I ran my hand though his hair. "When I left, I had every intention of finding my dad and ending the madness just so I could come back and marry you like I had always planned." I smiled.
"That is if you still want me, I know what I did was shitty and that you might not want to now and I get that." I sighed, remembering life wasn't just gonna go back to normal.
"Do you still have the ring?" He asked and I nodded, pulling out the ring that hung on a chain around me neck. Jay held his hand out as I pulled the chain and placed the ring into his hand.
"You're back for good right?"
"I have nowhere I'd rather be."
"Then will you Y/N put this ring back on and be my fiance again?"
"Are you sure?" I asked a little sceptically. Jay just nodded and took my hand.
"I am, but know this..." he began as he slid the ring back onto my finger. "This ring is NEVER to leave this finger again." He informed me and I nodded.
"Wouldn't dream of it." I grinned back before he crashed his lips to mine once again, this time with no intention of stopping.

My homophobic English teacher...
I saw a post on here recently about someone's horrible English teacher, and it reminded me of my own experience. TL;DR at the bottom. Doing this requires a quick lesson on the Australian high school system (I'll keep it short, don't worry). Basically, there are 6 years of Australian high school, from grades 7 through to 12. 7-10 are prep years where your grades don't carry over, then grades 11 and 12 are your big bad years with huge exams similar to the American system. When entering grade 11, you get to choose whether you want to pursue a path to university- doing this requires you to do ATAR subjects, which are the hardest subjects available. Your final grade in your last year is what universities use to decide if you get in. Basically, you have one year to really make it count. Grade 12 is the year to finally show off everything you've learned after your whole life at school. It's basically do or die, the hardest year of your life.
So, to begin this story, let me explain that I am good at English. Like, really good at English. I won awards and got accepted into state recognised programs for how good I am at English. It was the one subject I could guarantee to get an A in. So, naturally, I chose ATAR level English- I'd always wanted to get into some kind of English based university course. When I entered my grade 12 class I was greeted by my teacher, who we can call Mrs Slug, since she looked like a fat slimy slug. This was the kind of teacher that just handed out worksheets and sat behind her desk for the class and didn't actually teach. It was frustrating since this was my final year and I wanted my grades to be as good as possible, but I was confident in my ability to just pick it up on my own, so I didn't complain about it.
Then it came time for the first assessment. It was a creative writing piece, and short stories are my shit, so I wrote a short story. I followed the marking key carefully while also adding my own flare to the story to make it really entertaining and thought-provoking. The story was basically a dark romance told in first person, where the gender of the perspective character wasn't revealed until right at the end, thus revealing the couple to be gay. I specifically kept the main character's gender ambiguous until that point, since I wanted the reader to assume it was a girl then have a shock at the reveal. I contacted some of my friends from my high-level English programs and they all loved it. So I happily submitted it. I didn't think too much of it- I was interested to see how my ability held up in the highest level of school, but I wasn't expecting anything below a B. Then I got my result back.
Failed.
I couldn't believe it. I was genuinely confused. There were absolutely no marks on my paper, no red pen, no details as to why I failed, just a big fat 8/20 on the back of my paper. I was really upset, obviously, since I'd worked hard on it and it was the first time I'd failed an English assignment ever. I went to Mrs Slug and asked her what was wrong with it. She fluffed around and gave me an answer that essentially boiled down to, "I didn't like it." That was it. She had no reason to fail the story, she just didn't like it. News flash, that's not how marking creative writing works. If it'd been any other year, maybe I would've just blown it off and moved on, but this was grade 12. This failure could be the difference between getting into university and getting rejected.
So I went to the head of the English department at my school and requested a regrading. I didn't tell him that I'd failed it, just that I wanted more feedback. He gave it back to me as an 18/20. I then slammed my failing grade onto the desk and asked him to explain. Clearly, Mrs Slug stood by her grade, because instead of just changing my mark, they sent my writing to the top school in the state to get remarked again. It came back 19/20. Needless to say, my mark was changed to an A.
The next few assignments went relatively the same. Even when she passed me, I asked to be reassessed and my mark was always made higher than what she'd given me. Eventually, I complained enough times that they started rotating which teacher marked my work so no one could sabotage it. Even still, I always knew when Mrs Slug had been the one to mark it, because there was never any feedback on it, just a barely above average mark that eventually was changed to an A. I didn't get below 80% on any assignments for the entire year, and bare in mind, she hadn't taught anything in her class. I basically taught everyone myself and did the work at home so my peers also wanting to get into university had a shot (most of them did get in, can I add). I didn't understand why Mrs Slug didn't like my story (or me) until one day a discussion on politics came up in my class.
She's very, very right wing. A Donald Trump supporter. In Australia, that's super rare, since most of us think he's a dickhead. It suddenly hit me then. She didn't like my story because I'd done exactly what I'd wanted. She'd assumed the main character was a girl, then when it was revealed he was a guy and it was a gay relationship, she suddenly realised she'd happily been reading and enjoying a story about a gay couple. That must've infuriated her. She failed it for no reason other than her homophobia. After I realised that, I started to mess with her.
My first project was to test Donald Trump's persuasion tactics on her. My next oral presentation, I specifically used Donald Trump's speech style- the way he repeats words, over exaggerates, dehumanises, etc. I know she was the one who marked it (again, no feedback), but this time it was a 19/20. That was the highest mark she gave me all year. I couldn't believe it. The Donald had been right.
Next, I wrote a strongly worded, very opinionated article on how I was bisexual. This was the first time I'd touched LGBT topics since that first story, and I knew it would infuriate her. But she couldn't fail me at this point. It would look way too suspicious if a student who got 80%+ on assignments suddenly got less than 50%. I don't think I ever got the article back (I have a feeling it got passed around the English office so many times they just forgot) but I didn't care that much. I saw on my final report card it'd been 18/20. It must've made her angry, I hope, that she'd read my article and no doubt tried to fail it, but at this point, everyone was aware of her bullshit and prevented her from doing it. I got some dirty looks for the next few classes.
But there was one final straw that made me snap. See, my state holds a huge writing competition for high-schoolers every year. It's a massive deal, and people who win this competition often get sponsored or get scholarships based on it. Tens of thousands of entries get submitted. Obviously, I wanted to win it. Even getting shortlisted would do wonders for my uni application. Part of the school writing program meant that any short stories submitted over the year would automatically get entered in this competition, but I knew Mrs Slug would try and do me dirty. So I went to her directly, requesting to put in another version of the story I'd made with the feedback I'd gotten from the remarking. She told me, to my face, that she'd already submitted my story, so I couldn't change it. Fine. As long as it was submitted, I was happy.
I didn't get shortlisted. That hurt, a lot, since I'd really wanted it. But I figured the competition had been really good, so it was only fair. My little brother, however, got shortlisted for his year (he came in second), so I went to the awards ceremony with him.
Mrs Slug was there.
She looked shocked to see me. A little panicked, even. I was curious as to why she was there, but the answer revealed itself pretty quickly. One of the girls from my class had been shortlisted. Now listen, I'm not a bitter person. If someone genuinely writes better than me, I'm more than happy to accept that. But what I found awfully suspicious was that this particular girl had been given the highest mark in my class before I got reassessed. In other words, she had been Mrs Slug's favourite story. And her story had gotten 15/20. I know grades don't count for everything, and maybe my story had in fact been worse, but I was beginning to get a hunch as to what had happened.
As I said, I'm state recognised for my English ability, so I was able to get into contact with one of the people who had marked the competition. I asked, ever so innocently, if she'd read my story. She replied that she hadn't. I asked if she could check to see if any of the other markers had read it since it was a pretty distinctive story. The answer came back as I had feared. No one had read it.
Mrs Slug had lied through her teeth to my face. She hadn't submitted the story at all. She'd deliberately pulled it out of the submission pile because she was salty. This competition was a /huge/ deal to me- like I said, it would've been a massive part of my uni application. And she'd sabotaged it. She wanted me to fail.
I was fucking fuming at this point. Even today, I get angry thinking about it. I couldn't let this rest any longer. I was beyond pettiness. This was time for real revenge.
My parents both work in education, and my mum, in particular, was pretty high up in my area. She's also a bit of a tiger mum. When I told her what Mrs Slug had done, she was pissed. Like, so pissed. The idea that her kid might not go to uni because of a prejudiced teacher does not sit well with tiger mothers. She marched straight to the principal's office, and since he knew her, we were heard out almost immediately. I explained what happened, how I'd consistently been marked too lowly and my competition application had been removed without my knowledge. My mum was able to kick up a pretty big stink about it, ranting about how Mrs Slug shouldn't even be qualified to teach at all, let alone grade 12 ATAR English, and she needed to be removed immediately. The principal copped an earful, then the head of English did too. Both of them cowered in fear before the rage of my mother. There was nothing they could use to defend her, either- I had proof of the undermarking and the removal of my story application. Statements from my classmates confirmed she hadn't taught anything all year. It wasn't looking good for Mrs Slug.
She continued to sag behind her desk like a festering cancer for the last few weeks of the year, giving me stinky looks. I just quietly did my work, helping other people study for the final exam. I knew I'd done enough. In Australia, you can't just fire government workers, but you can move them. Sure enough, at the end of the year, she was relocated to the middle of fucking nowhere, to a school of fewer than 100 kids, where I hope she rots to this day. It's the closest you can get to being fired.
I got into university, by the way, and I'm now studying my English course. I should also mention that I got into the most competitive university in Australia, and I still get 80% and above in my short stories. That 40% she gave me was total bullshit, and I'm glad I made her suffer for it. No teacher should be able to get away with sabotaging their students like that, especially when it's their future on the line. I can only hope that the few students she teaches now don't have to experience the same thing.
TL;DR: my homophobic English teacher tried to fail me on my assignments, then sabotaged my chances in an important competition, so I got her essentially fired.

prompt for dr whomst've'yain't've: ryan, yasmin, graham and 13 + late night dinners and bonding
Surprisingly, the cure for escaping the clutches of galactic evil on their own planet; a thousand glares from the embrace of their own time, Ryan finds, is rubbish, unhealthy amounts of fast food.
When he was younger; and back when his mum was still around, and his dad was more reliable, and his nan was... well... -
Whatever Nando's had was always good. Even when Nan had taken him in after everything, she always stopped somewhere for him when she was running errands.
Comfort food seemed to transcend countless timelines. And he wasn't sure what they were eating, but it had come from what looked to be the space version of a bad idea for food.
Compared to other trips with the woman, the day had been tame for them. Having traveled back to somewhere in the 19th century, by Graham's request, having a soft spot it seemed for Victorian England. Or; at least the clothing. Ryan took every chance to half heartedly restrain his chuckles at the ridiculous hat the older man had worn when they found the wardrobe of the TARDIS; taking the piss whenever he could - though, his outfit wasn't any better.
The Doctor hadn't been sure of the exact time they had gone to - Yaz had a few choice words to say to the box that apparently had a mind of its own, and for whatever reason the big blue time machine had, was angry at its - her? - Occupants. But the alien was sure that it was in, as she had called it, a "very cross, and unhelpful mood." With little more explanation.
Though, if he had to wager a guess for the reason behind it - he did drink something, and spill some of it (very small amounts!) onto the console. Ryan mused sheepishly.
But he had cleaned it up!
Wherever and whoever the thing was bought from, he thinks, should give her a refund for the moody machine. Even if The Doctor sometimes stared at it with some kind of timeless devotion.
It could think now. It thinks. It was annoyed. According to The Doctor, it always thought. How bonkers.
What he did know, was, that when each of them had left the (sentient, apparently. how wicked.) TARDIS, the four of them dressed to the nines in dark, period fitting clothing, it hadn't materialized somewhere discreet, not that it ever did, he reckoned.
It hadn't landed in some back alleyway; nor in grassy fields - nor empty plains.
It landed in bloody Kensington Palace.
As they stumbled out of the TARDIS, they also so happened to bump into a freckled, full mooned face girl with clothing that made Ryan think she was some kind of servant.
He's never been in a palace before.
Whoever the startled girl had been, they don't really find out, as she scatters away with urgency in her features. But Graham is already in shambles over their circumstance to begin with.
("Oh - I don't even think the TARDIS is worth as much as that painting - Doctor, will you look at that!")
Despite the worry that they might be considered trespassing - which Ryan hasn't properly expressed yet, mainly due to how in awe he is that he was in Kensington Palace in the 19th century to begin with, The Doctor had taken them on a stroll, avoiding any guards - there weren't that many to begin with; hardly any, and it had not been lost on her.
It had been odd - he certainly noticed her piqued interest over it - heard her think out loud over it, and asked a few wandering people about it in her cheery casualness. But it hadn't been cause for concern.
And then, had come trouble. Because of course, there was always that.
When they had turned the fourth consecutive hallway - the forth one that had zero people in it, (though Ryan had personally thought, that maybe - and this was perfectly reasonable to think when you were in the home of fancy privileged white people - that they were all off, somewhere, in a meeting or crowning or something to that degree) they had managed to finally be greeted by another soul.
More specifically; the soul in question had been Queen Bloody Victoria.
He thinks its her. He's definitely googled her before for enough school projects. Even if she looked older than what normally came up. Maybe a decade older than Graham.
Even more specifically; her full on sprinting form, careful to pick up her flowing silk dress, as she ran from something with green tentacles.
Naturally; even though this is definitely something to book it over - The Doctor springs headfirst into the fire.
The thing - he's never seen it before, he's seen plenty of aliens, plenty of monsters, and he's never seen this, was a creature in between a circular shape; and a square - if that was possible. It was an awkward, kind of horrifying, mix of shapes. It was green - snot kind of green, almost translucent - there was definitely an outline of a crumpled body in it.
Its eyes - entirely and completely plural - there were three dozen from its head (he thinks its a head?) down to its waist (again, probably one) dark, like unforgiving coal that had been broken into harsh bits to where all that it really was, was simply just... color. And like a terror beyond comprehension, it had tentacles screaming out and spread out on its body - it didn't have legs; it seemed to get by on them alone.
Its mouth - he was certain it was a mouth, was unhinged - near a trio of eyes on its now probable face. It looked... like a fog. A ghost of something. There was sharpness - pointy, very pointy - but it was almost hidden.
"Uh - Doc..." Graham had walked backwards - standing his ground but very clearly ready to hear the word "run" from anyone. There was apprehension on his face - like Ryan's and Yaz's, but masked by nervousness and wonder at whatever the hell they were looking at. His hat had inexplicably fallen off his head and sunk pathetically to the lavish spiral carpet.
"Doctor - what's the plan?!" Yasmin had bellowed through the inhuman noise - the thing was making noises now - darting her gaze to the sponge color haired traveler next to her - whose gaze was equally taken aback by the scene - but with an awe.
By now Victoria - should he call her something else? She was - is? in this moment - rich and a product of the 19th century, his morals say no - Victoria has gotten closer to them - enough to bolt past them with a survival instinct he didn't think he'd see from someone who seems to be quite old. The Doctor had instinctively made herself seem bigger; using the hand that didn't have her sonic in it, to shield the five against... the alien, (?) and stare down the creature.
"OI! Oh no you don't Flubber! Get back!" Yelled The Doctor, eyeing the thing. She had briefly glanced back at the four; who hadn't made any new reaction at her statement. She frowned.
"Oh come on fam!" She tried. "Flubber? I'm an alien, I can't be the only one who understands it."
From behind Yaz, Graham had hesitantly raised his hand. "I understood it." He admitted, still watching the steadily approaching creature.
The Doctor's face lit up. "Wasn't it a laugh then? Flubber?" It fell again. "Get it, cause it's green and..." She trailed off at their expressions. "You didn't laugh."
"God Almighty!" The Queen had made herself known again, hysterical in tone, but still firmly with them. "Cease your babbling, you failed jester! Destroy the monster! Get rid of it now!"
The Doctor turned back. "Right! No worries, just my wounded hearts - anyways -"
The Doctor once more lifted her sonic, the other alien having only gotten worrying closer - by now, its jaw had lowered, to where it obscured several of its facial eyes. It let out a screech - distorted, almost electrical, like a bad game in a console; and a pulsing noise filled the air as she pointed it in its direction.
For a second, it seemed like the result was nothing. The pulsing continued and continued. The thing crept closer.
And then it stopped - right in its tracks.
There was a noise; a scream, almost. But it was too distorted to really tell.
And then - whatever it was - had combusted. Totally - and utterly; a symphony of destruction, all at once showering the palace with waves of unknown emerald green goo - splattering against the pristine walls, the portraits and furniture. All of its eyes had not suffered the same fate; they simply vanished. A lone tentacle had landed at Ryan's feet, and he had jumped backwards in shocked disgust.
Despite this it didn't connect with them - all of them; that this had ended right then. Yaz still stared at nothingness - eyebrows furrowed and breaths heard and heavy. Graham was still backing away, and The Doctor still clutched firmly to her screwdriver - as if, waiting. And Ryan kept looking at the intact tentacle.
And, Then.
"Good Lord!" Victoria had stirred beside them. "What in the world was that... that... that thing?!"
This thawed the rest of them. The Doctor swirled on her feet - her bewildered - yet eager expression was present as she kneeled beside Ryan's left foot. Wordlessly, she grabbed the tentacle, keeping it distant as she used her sonic and waved it around every inch of it. She brought it back to her face, and had observed whatever the sonic had said. Afterwards, she retraced her steps, bending down to stuff a finger into one of the piles of goo.
And then she... she licked it.
"Ugh! Doctor!" He groaned, eyes squinting. "That's going to get you the alien equivalent of food poisoning."
"Alien?!" Victoria squealed.
"Huh. Can't tell what this is - or was." The Doctor rose again, the goo still on her finger, dripping. "It's not anything i've seen before. Doesn't taste familiar." Mused The Doctor.
"Lick a lot of aliens then, have you Doc?" Remarked Graham, tired.
"Would someone please tell me what is happening - who are you people - where are my guards, and what is that thing!" Yelled Victoria, again.
The Doctor glanced at her, suddenly beaming as she walked over. "Hi! It beats me!" She said cheerfully. "But you're safe now - I think that thing got to your men, and was looking at you for a nice appetizer. Also, hello! You can't recognize me, but we've met! I think? Depends on what year it is. I don't want to assume, you have just been chased down fearing for your saftey. Are you a werewolf yet?" She finished, not stopping for breath as she smiled pleasantly, stretching her hand out for a shake.
Victoria looked like she swallowed a toad.
"A... wolf..." She began. Her eyes looked to the screwdriver. "Did you say your name... was The Doctor?" Victoria finished slowly.
"Nope! But my friends did." Said The Doctor, who looked suddenly sheepish. "I know I look a bit different since we last met; I got an upgrade! But..."
It all felt surreal after that, Although he couldn't understand why, and even though they had just saved her life, Victoria had threatened, with some bad blood directed mysteriously towards the blonde, to get whatever remaining guards she could find and had, and send the four of them to the Tower of London permanently.
It was after this, that, with Graham staring at her with his mouth open, that The Doctor felt it was best to leave. Quickly. Surprisingly; it was only then that they ran.

What if ...
Loki where a 21st century woman?
Part 2
Scene 8
Back at home, we enter a room where Kevin and Loki are sitting face to face. As Kevin had said, an hour a day - now we know he meant it. Yet, just because he looks like an Irish leprechaun, it doesn’t mean he has the same wit. Indeed we can assume that he has inherited more but the ginger hair. Loki seems like she’d figured it out already, according to her staring. It’s like the game we all played as kids. A staring contest, losers gonna look away first. Both of them want to be at the winning side. We start to wonder what kind of therapeutic use this game shall have, as Kevin breaks the silence, not looking away of course.
‘You really think that you are Loki of Asgard?’
‘I do not think so. I know who I am!’
Not the best opening line for a therapist. Here we see the trainee.
‘Good… had you ever the desire to — well, use the boy’s bathroom, or play with cars instead of dolls?’
We move our angle, so we can see what Kevin writes down on his notepad.
‘Seriously? That is what you want to know? — To be honest I was thought to play with knives and illusions, as well as with my brothers foolishness. Trust me, gender never was a big deal for me. I can be whatever I want to,’ Lokis boasts.
° narcissism
° dissociative identity disorder
° a lot of anger/rage
Is what we can read by now. Dr. Freud might had added hysteria.
‘Tell me about your brother,’ is Kevins next question.
‘I would not know why,’ Loki appeals stubborn.
‘We have a deal, remember?’
‘I don’t see any sense in it, as you obviously don’t believe me, but here you go. Thor, god of thunder. Not the brightest glowing candle. Likes his hammer… a lot. Future king of Asgard, if you’d ask him. Has a soft spot for Midgard. I came here to say hello,’ she’s checking on her fingernails while speaking.
‘To me it sounds like there is a rivalry between you and your brother?’ for a second we catch discomfort in Lokis eyes.
‘He’s not my real brother. It’s not that long ago when I was told, I am adopted.’
‘Who told you so?’
‘My fa…, Odin. He promised me a throne! Just to tell me, that I was nothing more than a hostage.’
°daddy issues
Kevins pen is wandering on the paper.
‘Tell me about your mum.’
‘She’s kind an loving. I’m afraid, I might never see her again, only in my dreams.’
‘Why do you think so?’
‘Never mind! There is witchcraft, even in dreams. You would not understand. — By the way, how come this reality is blocking out almost every magic?’ Loki’s time for questions.
‘Honestly? As you really seem to believe it, I have some bad news for you: There is no magic, and no gods or stuff like that. Most of us, including me, don’t believe in sorcery or different realms. I’m sorry to disappoint you.’
We don’t fail to notice how Kevin is struggling, to take the topic serious. Meanwhile Loki has an enlightening moment.
‘That must be part of the problem! People don’t believe…,’ she mumbles to herself. Aloud she says, ‘tell me about your world, please. I know a bit from Barton but me seems this one is unlike his. What is the history of this country for instance?’ Lokis eyes are glowing.
‘Are you kidding me? — You don’t know?’ Kevin looks puzzled.
‘Would I ask otherwise?’ annoyance is speaking out of her voice.
Kevin starts a lesson in english history. Loki is rather interested in the war of the roses and the Tudor King. We start to get a bad feeling, that this might won’t end well; with her question, ‘you are saying, England has never grown out of monarchy and is ruled by a Queen until today?!’
‘Yes and a King, - people always seem to forget about him, poor guy,’ Kevin sights.
‘Tell me everything about them!’ there is a lot of motivation in Loki’s behaviour now.
‘I think that’s enough for today. I’m not that interested into royal gossip, - if you want to know more, you can look it up on the internet, or go to the library,’ he sounds tired.
We suspect that this session didn’t proceed as planed. He has our empathy, cause he doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. Or at least he doesn’t believe it. Not all of us would, but we have the benefit of knowing Loki, and we are just observer. We should feel sorry for Kevin, as he doesn’t realise what Loki’s mind is wandering of to. We remember well, how much Loki desires a throne. Not that she didn’t mention it while talking about Odin.
‘The leprechaun showed me how to use this thing called internet. I’m impressed! I had known that it could be a useful weapon, yet I had no clue how much. It’s like an addiction, all those informations. Makes it a pushover to take over this kingdom! Ehehehehe. I read on, a plan is growing, I like how it sparkles. The discovery of the actual age, of the monarchs, makes it even better. Their son isn’t that much younger. To my satisfaction, there are two princes next in row, to follow the crown. Not the baddest idea to become a woman. Nothing is going to stop me!
‘Helloho! I’m talking to you, freak. Stop that creepy laughing and help me to cook dinner, would you?! If you want to share our home, you can do something for it. Maybe Kevin is alright with you behaving like the Queen of England, well I’ll tell you something, I ain’t!’ the warrior has her hands pressed to her hips and usually I wouldn’t give much about her complaining, but for the sake of learning from them, I follow her into the kitchen.’
Scene 9
Picturing Loki and Beatrix in the kitchen, we feel a little smile stealing onto our faces. The idea, of Loki doing the cooking, is hilarious. Beatrix commanding her, comes close to a catastrophe and is a test for Loki’s self-control.
Let’s get a bit closer and listen to their conversation, shall we?
‘Did you never cut a tomato?’ we hear Bea.
‘Not with a dull knife. If you would have let me use my dagger, I would have been faster!’ Loki mutters.
‘Yeah, as if this dirty piece, wherever you hide it, was made to cut vegetables with. I don’t like to imagine your family dinners,’ Bea folds her arms, waiting for Loki to get the veggies ready.
‘Sure, the are awkward. I have to approve, you are right. The dagger was made to cut into meat,’ Loki let the knife run through her fingers, staring at Bea in disgust.
‘Sorry to disappoint you missy, but one of our rules is: No meat for dinner, nor in this kitchen. I am vegan and no dead animals will cross our door!’ Bea turns around to light the gas of the stove.
‘Who said I was talking about animals?!’ Loki mutters to herself.
‘What?’ Bea turns around with a pan in her hand, pointing it at the other girl.
‘Nothing. I’m done with the vegetables, what’s next?’ Loki grins, swirling the knife again.
‘Would you please stop?!’ she points a finger at Lokis hand, ‘it’s a bit dangerous, don’t you think?’
‘What, the knife?’ she looks at it impenitently, ‘not really, unless I decide it should.’ Loki grins again. Annoying Bea, gives her satisfaction.
The girl, almost done with her nerves by now, tries to take away the sharp object from her reckless flatmate. Unfortunately, Loki is a lot taller and has enough strength back, to use her magic pockets. What makes the knife disappear every time Bea comes close.
‘What are you, David Copperfield for the poor? Hand me the bloody knife, or I swear I’ll…,’ she doesn’t come any further as Kevin enters the room, in the exact moment things almost escalated.
‘I see you start to get along a bit better?’ he smiles naively. We start to wonder how he will ever be a psychologist? Maybe he just picked the wrong job?
From Lokis face we capture a innocent, but satisfied look into Kevins direction, as Beatrix let go of her to roast the vegetables.
‘Veggies again, … what are you cooking love?’ Kevin steps closer to see what is in the pan.
‘Rice with tomato, carrots and peas,’ Bea lists the ingredients.
‘Delicious, can’t wait for it,’ he rolls his eyes behind her back, ‘I’ll cook something proper when she has her night out,’ he whispers into Lokis ear, while handing her a towel. For a second she stands there holding it, not sure what Kevin wants. Soon enough she figures, he wants to do the dishes while Bea is busy at the stove. We might make a guess, that Kevin is frightened of his friend, when she’s in such a mood. Or maybe we have to admit, that he is more cunning than anyone could tell.
‘The food that the warrior princess has cooked, isn’t as bad as I’d expected. Not that I would tell her. She’s a ghastly person. I’ll have to tolerate it, until I’ve found a way into Buckingham palace. For now I can have my fun with both of them. Nonetheless I’ll have to keep an eye on Kevin. He hasn’t shown all his cards yet, I can sense it. Plus I’m unsure if I can trust him.
Anyway, it’s exhausting with them.
Maybe it’s because I haven’t had enough rest, but I’m dead tired. All I want to do, is to lie down and think of a plan, to infiltrate the royal family. To my disappointment, we have to do the dishes — again! For the warrior has done the cooking. Not enough that she forced me to help her with it.
‘Are we done now? I’m tired,’ I tell the leprechaun after the last, clean fork.
‘Sure, but don’t you want to join us? We have our movie night. Could be a good chance to get to know each other better,’ he shows me those puppy eyes. Something in them beg me to join, I can’t help myself.
‘Fine. If it’s that important to you,’ I sigh.
Plans can wait until tomorrow, I guess. Let’s see what kind of pleasures a movie night might bring.
‘Yay! I’ll make popcorn and get everything ready. Do you want to take a shower in the meantime?’
That’s a good idea. It has been a long time since water has seen my body. A short sniff approves my misgiving. I smell.
The ginger almost pushes me into the bathroom, while explaining everything. He hands me fresh clothes and faster than I can soak in all informations, he has left. I’m alone in the middle of the tiny room. The only space, to place my wardrobe, is the toilet seat or optional, the ground. I have to make a sacrifice, fresh clothes onto the toilet, the stuff I’m wearing onto the ground. I can’t wait to feel the water refreshing me. The only thing that keeps me away from it, is the bloody bra! What kind of sadistic person has invented this fastener?
Probably one of the torturers from Hel.
The quiet ‘plop’ as it opens, couldn’t be more satisfying. I almost jump into the shower and turn the water on. A mistake as it turns out. The water is cooking. It burns my freed breasts.
Who the fuck takes a shower this hot?!
The water becomes a moderate temperature, as I soap myself with a strange smelling piece, I’ve found on the tray in the corner.
Afterwards my hair is nearly impossible to comb — should I have used those bottles instead? Probably would have thought about it, if I had not been that distracted by my new body.
Anyway, time to get dressed and see what kind of night lies ahead.
I stop after entering the living room, not sure what is expected of me.
The two mortals are sitting on a sofa, cuddling.
‘Ah, there you are. Come, sit! We have waited for you,’ Kevin says.
‘Like forever. What have you done in there?’ the warrior is still grumpy, but not as much as during dinner.
I take the offered seat, on the edge of the sofa, cause the leprechaun is looking at me in expectancy, ignoring the comment of the veggie queen.
‘Come a little closer, or do you want to fall over? Allow yourself some comfort,’ he hands me a bowl with ‘Popcorn’ as he calls it, and I’m surprised by it’s buttery, salty taste. I like it!
I almost start to get comfortable but the strange behaviour of my seat mate destroys that feeling. Why is he sniffing at me?
My gaze must have made him aware of his doing. He stops, turning red.
‘I’m sorry! It’s just… which bottle of shampoo did you use?’ he wants to know.
‘None of them. Didn’t trust their substances. I’m all for the old-fashioned way in showering! I took the soap.’
The burst out of laughter from the girl disturb me, ‘what have I done wrong?’
‘Oh well — that was Hina’s special soap, against rash. We try to avoid it, because of this strong smell of marigold -‘
‘Now you smell like a granny!’ Bea’s giggles interrupt Kevin.
‘- you must know, sometimes it makes your skin burn or become itchy, if you use it without the need to ease your rash,’ he adds.
‘Great! Thanks for the warning.’ I almost yell at him.
‘Calm down. Here, have a nice glass of wine and a blanked, you must be cold.’
I suppose he never heard of Frostgiants, anyway, I take the blanked and if it’s only to cover this ugly thing that doesn‘t deserve the name pyjamas. A big sip of wine, helps me over the fact that the warrior is still laughing. I swear by Odin, I’m going to cut her throat , in her sleep, if she doesn’t stop soon.
‘ ‘kay ladies, enough silliness for now. Let’s get to the movie. Are you ready?’ Kevin asks, while he presses a button on the remote control.
The movie starts while Kevin explains to me that it is called ‘Star Wars’. After a few minutes I lose interest in it. This species has no clue what is going on in the universe. Not to mention the horrible special effects and this stupid emperor in a mask, calling himself Vader … they should meet Thanos!
At some point I decide to enjoy the food and the wine to let my thoughts wander. To correct the movie was fun, until they got angry with me because of the steady interruptions.
All those delicious details I’ve learned today!
The grandson of the Queen, Edmund, has been in the newspapers a lot, for his excessive party live. Would be stupid if I didn’t use it to make my way into the palace. The only problem will be my lack of patience. Every detail has to be perfect, so this croutons won’t realise how I infiltrate them. Maybe I should have ‘sight-seeing’ around Buckingham Palace tomorrow… ?’
As always, I’m happy about constructive feedback. Tell me what you think about it, if you’ve read until the end. And I’m sorry for the pic,.. next time I’ll draw a better one 🙈 it’s not that easy to transform him,...

now I have to know what completely embarrassing thing you did that got your mom, dad, and boss all agreeing that you were acting like a brat because it sounds like it'd be HILARIOUS.
(( This is something that happened off Tumblr about a week ago and is what Calleo was talking about in this post.
TL;DR All of Calleo's other relationships are with people who either don't particularly want someone close to them on a regular basis as they find it stifling or people who do enjoy that but aslo have their own partnership so if Calleo dips in and out of contact on a regular basis for work, they don't mind (and are more than used to it). @absintheabsence does not fall under either of those categories but also has very little concept of what good treatment looks like, partially because he probably treated other people like afterthoughts (if he thought about them at all) and/or was often treated as one himself along with that 'oh, well, I mean, it's not like I'm a person so it's fine' mindset he gets into now and again. ))
Words, spoken or unspoken can make all the difference in the world.
Early on, when Gellert was almost frantic about touch, Calleo immediately fell into what turned out to be a short-lived response. The frantic had a always been met with calm verbal reassurances that he was genuinely and deeply loved. When Calleo had to leave, he’d always make sure the last thing Gellert would hear before the disapparation was some variant of, “I love you.”
Any conversation during the day ended the same.
When he’d return, Calleo’s greetings included a great deal on how he had missed Gellert while he was away, usually followed by sitting or laying somewhere to talk about their respective days.
Nights continued much the same, with Calleo making certain to end the conversation before sleep by reminding Gellert that he would never have to worry about being abandoned and that he was, of course, loved.
And, because he was Calleo, once he started focusing the majority of his time on both Ministry work and side projects, it was forgotten. Rarely at first, but rarely became occasionally, occasionally turned into often, and often fell into the territory of Calleo simply taking it for granted and as something that didn’t need reinforcement or frequent repetitions. To him—or at least how he justified it to himself—it was a given as he was still present. Calleo was never annoyed or irritated when Gellert would ask or do things to get his attention, but it was more than fair to say that he didn’t understand the need, and that often came across as him going through the motions long enough to get Gellert to calm down again.
He’d mentioned it in passing to his parents during one of their almost daily lunch time visits to his office; the silence in the air, confusion tinged from Calleo, nearly incredulous from his father, and something as close to the realm of disappointment that he’d ever seen from his mother. She had moved to speak first, but stopped as her husband gave her the sort of subtle head shake indicating he’d at least decided to give Calleo a few more seconds to possibly come to the correct conclusion.
When that didn’t happen, all Calleo got as a response was, “And do you think I make your mother nearly beg for my time and attention, or that she makes me beg for hers?”
The answer to that was, of course, no, but Calleo being Calleo started to protest beyond that answer and found himself interrupted by his mother—something he could scarcely recall ever happening. The undercurrent in her tone was something he couldn’t quite place. Despite that, whatever it was, it was startling enough that he instinctively knew better than to argue with or interrupt her.
“You cannot, cannot treat this as though it were one of your more casual associations. I don’t doubt that you care about those people just as deeply, and I doubt your father does either, but they have their lives separate from yours and you have yours separate from theirs. Those partnerships are fundamentally different at their cores than this one; you need to stop viewing it as if it were not.”
Calleo stayed silent, still not daring to even accidentally interrupt her.
“And wipe that look off of your face. I’m your mother, I know better than anyone when you’ve already begun deciding what you’re being told is incorrect.”
Calleo blinked. He hadn’t even been aware he’d had any particular look on.
“Whether you entered into what you entered into purposely or accidentally doesn’t matter at this point because you stubbornly chose, against everyone’s advice, including his, to voluntarily remain bound to that pact despite clearly not fully understanding what it meant or how deeply it ran. Why do you think everyone around you tried to get you to take the offer to break it?”
Rhetorical. There was no need to answer.
“It wasn’t because it was him, at least not from our end. You didn’t have any idea what you’d done and agreed to then, and it’s beyond evident that you still think it’s some frivolous curiosity that holds no deeper meaning beyond a few communication tricks and a shiny trinket that’s no different from the shelves full of shiny things that briefly catch your attention.”
“You bound yourself through Blood Magic to another person! Not only that, you allowed someone else to remain bound to you despite their misgivings,” now she sounded—not exactly angry, more a little cross and a whole lot of exasperated. She stepped forward and cupped Calleo’s face in her hands; it wasn’t enough of a grip that he couldn’t have pulled away, just enough of one to let him know doing that would not be the best of ideas.
“You are my only child, and I love you above all else, but you are acting like a spoiled brat that we did not raise. You will either be an adult and treat this situation you have put yourself in with the time, attention, and priority that it calls for and deserves, or you will cut him loose. There is not a third option.” With that said, she pulled Calleo’s head down a bit to kiss his forehead (leaving a lipstick print of course) and left his office without a further word.
Calleo glanced at his father while wiping away the pinkish-red mark on his forehead. Mum had never spoken to him like that before in his entire life! What he received in return was a half of a shrug and a, “Listen to your mother,” as he left the office as well.
On some level, Calleo half expected Director Yandle to have heard the conversation through the walls and come in to cuff him upside the head as his contribution. Instead, all he did was appear a few minutes later to silently drop a large stack of Divination work that needed filing onto his desk.
When Calleo returned to Nurmengard later in the evening it was quiet and subdued, without the usual possibly remembering so say hello mid-way through launching into an immediate rant about some thing that had happened at work.
He didn’t say anything at all, not verbally at least; he did, however walk over to that awful, rickety old chair on which Gellert always seemed to use, despite it being wobbly and solid wood. Taking a quick note of the page an open book that had, until a moment ago, been being read, Calleo closed it and picked it up. With his free hand, he took one of Gellert’s, pulled him the few steps to the sofa, and down onto it with him.
Once that had been all settled, the book hovered itself at proper reading distance in front of Gellert, re-opening to the correct page. Calleo kept one arm around Gellert and the other he shifted enough to gently run his fingers through silver hair.

1940s AU!
Summary: Hux always loved to be a doctor, helping others was his life. But you weren’t like any other patient.
A/N: I just watched The Little Stranger and got inspired to write this. Hope you like it! Enjoy~
People always told him that he had a mean look. That he looked annoyed all the time. Even as a little boy.
And Armitage started to believe them. Although deep down he knew, they couldn’t be further from the truth.
He decided to become a doctor to his mother’s wishes. She did everything in her will to give his son the proper education. And that was what put her into an early grave, his father was never in the picture, so Armitage was left all alone.
But he managed.
He got himself a little apartment and even a car. Which at that time was something.
He had a private clinic for himself where he examined patients. Families paid well for him to treat them. Ultimately he had a nice life, but something was missing.
He was currently in his examination room looking after Mrs Mcloan.
“Nothing serious, ma’am. Just a simple cold. I will give you some medicine and you should be fine.”
The elderly woman smiled at the red-haired man, thanked him and then left.
She was the last patient for the day. It has already begun to get dark outside.
He was packing his bag and about to leave when his phone rang.
***
“Thank you for coming, Doctor. And in such short notice as well.”
“It’s perfectly fine Mrs. Y/L/N.”
“My daughter has been sick for the last couple of days. I’m worried for her, she’s not herself.”
As the woman walked him around the enormous house, he had little time to look around, the house was fancy and luxurious. He was mesmerized by it all.
“This way doctor.” the woman said and opened a door which leads to a big room. It had lots of books in it, the décor was quite simple.
And in the middle of it was a huge bed.
As Armitage walked closer, he looked at the young female laying between the warm sheets.
You.
As you opened your eyes and looked at the man standing next to your bed, you tried to sit up but failed. You were way too weak.
For some reason Armitage wanted to help you, but he knew better. He only watched you.
He had to admit, you were the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.
“Good evening, Ms Y/L/N. My name is Dr Armitage Hux. I will be your doctor.” he said once he found his voice.
So he began with his routine. Your mother watched with worried eyes.
“I have to ask some questions Ms. Y/L/N. Would you mind leaving us alone Mrs. Y/L/N?”
Without another word your mother and your maid left the room. Armitage turned back to you. You looked pale and tired, almost dead if he was honest with himself. You must have been sick for longer than just a few days.
“Ms Y/L/N, how long have you been unwell?” you looked into his eyes and Armitage swore he felt something in his move, something that never did before.
“About one and a half week…maybe two.” your voice was weak. The man shook his head.
“Do you feel any sort of pain?” you could only nod.
“Where exactly?” you pulled your hands up and placed it on your chest. The doctor nodded.
“Is the pain burning pain or stabbing pain?” you stopped for a few seconds, made a face and answered.
“Burning.”
“Okay, most likely you have some kind of pneumonia. I will give a vaccine to you.”
The doctor did his job. But he could help but notice your smooth skin.
***
Doctor Hux has been coming to your home for about a month now. You slowly started to get better and better.
“Hello Doctor.” you greeted him as he entered your room.
“Good morning Ms Y/L/N.”
He did his usual stuff. While checking your pulse he accidentally touched stomach. It made you flinch a little since you weren’t used to someone else’s touch, especially not a man’s.
“I’m so sorry.” he said, face becoming red.
“It’s okay.” you whispered back. It made him look up as his gorgeous green eyes met with yours.
You became slightly red. The two of you just stared at one another. He suddenly looked at your lips then back into your eyes. He slowly leant forward and that’s when the door opened and in came your mother.
She stopped as Armitage leant back quickly, hoping your mother didn’t see anything, he quickly collected his things and left in a hurry.
As he left he missed to see your disappointed face or the grin on your mother’s.
***
“I don’t understand why my mother insists on you still coming over. I mean, you already cured me.”
“You sound like you don’t like my company.”
“Oh no! I do. It’s just I think she has a plan of some sorts.” He pulled the stethoscope out of his ears as he looked at you.
This time you were sitting in one of the many lounges that your house had to offer. With the doctor right in front of you. He sat down on a chair in front of yours.
“What sorts of plan, Ms Y/L/N?”
“I already told you to call me, Y/N, Doctor.” the male nodded. And waiting for you to continue. “I think she wants to set us up. The other day Becca, one of our maids, said that my mum thinks we have a spark. She would have already given you my hand in marriage if it wasn’t up to you.” you said and picked up your tea.
It was true, Armitage did develop feelings for you during his time of visit. The only problem was that he was too shy to do anything about it. Since he was afraid of rejection.
“And…what do you think, Y/N? Do you think we have a….spark?” he watched you carefully. A small smile danced along your lips.
“Maybe.”
***
You always loved dancing.
So when Armitage asked you to go to a party with him, you were more than happy. You picked out a nice dress of yours.
At first Armitage didn’t want to dance, saying he was bad at it.
“Come on, Armitage, please!”
“I’m a horrible dancer.” but in the end, you convinced him. And as it turned out, he wasn’t so bad.
The two of you danced until you could barely walk.
He drove you home, it was pretty late in the night.
As Armitage drove he realized that you have fallen asleep. Your skirt slowly got pulled upwards so he had a view of a little bit of your thigh and your knee.
He had to stop himself from reaching over and running his fingers along it. Your skin looked way too smooth to him.
A bump in the road shock the whole vehicle. It made you get up. You looked at Armitage who was looking at the road.
After he pulled up in front of your house, he stopped the engine.
“Thank you for tonight, Armitage. I really enjoyed myself.” before he could even say something, you placed a kiss to his cheek and exited the car.
The smile that was on his face for days after said it all.
***
The next time you met him was because of tragic. You father had passed away, leaving your mother and yourself all alone.
At the funeral, Armitage was there and he held you while you were crying.
After that day, Armitage came over more frequently. He was worried about you.
What he didn’t expect was for you to open the door to him. Not a maid, but you.
“Everyone is out. My mother went to visit my aunt and the maids are all with their family.” you explained to him. As you stood right next to the fireplace.
“So, you are all alone? That’s not safe.” you chuckled a little.
“It’s fine, I have you here now.” you said as you went ahead and kissed him. He reciprocated the kiss as his hands went to cup your cheeks. Your hand roamed into his short hair.
After a few moments of heat he pulled away, although his body and brain told him not to.
“Are you sure about this? About us?” he asked looking into your eyes
“I love you Armitage.” was all you needed to say before his lips were on yours again.
On that very night, your love blossomed as you both reached your climaxes.
Later that evening Armitage was looking at you as you slept against his chest.
“I love you too, Y/N.” he kissed your forehead before he went to sleep while holding you close.
***
On your wedding day, your mother went all out and purchased a house for the two of you.
You couldn’t wait to start life with the man you love. Your husband picked you up bridal style, while you were still in your wedding dress and carried you into your new home.
And Armitage’s life finally felt full.
Little did he know about the little girl that will be born a year later.
His daughter will truly be the one who would make his life more than full.
