My homie I have amazing news. In one of Finn's past lives he was a butterfly. Fionna is probably dreaming of one of her past lives. Like yeah I know dream analysis and stuff and the shwo is very deep. But maybe it's just a cute easter egg.

Okay, I was actually totally planning to add a lil thing in the tags of that post that I was like "hmmm or maybe it can also be related to Finn's past life as a butterfly" but then I, like, had a brainfart and forgot about it lol??? I literally don't know what happened there, honestly.

But also, there is a reason I only meant to leave this idea as a little-side-addendum in the tags - because I don't consider it very likely at all right now. First and foremost because, yeah, one of Finn's past life was a butterfly - but that doesn't necessarily mean anything about Fionna.

I mean, we know that the F&C verse sometimes flips around characters' species. For Glob's sake, literally the second-most important character in this universe is a cat whose Mainverse counterpart is a dog! As far as we know, Fionna's past life could've been a maggot or a Kiwi bird!

Also, an important thing to remember here is that Fionna isn't having this dream alone. Cake is ALSO dreaming with her

While it's been kinda implied that Finn and Jake keep reincarnating as best bros throughout their lives and maybe you can extrapolate that would be true of Fionna and Cake as well. But there's nothing in this little visual that could be a 'companion' to the butterfly so I think it's worth asking.... why is Cake dreaming of Fionna's past life as well?

Also, I would buy the idea this was just "Fionna dreaming of her past lives" more if, like, the first episode's title sequence showed her dreaming of a shooting star or a pink slime or a genderswapped version of Shoko or anything else also related to Finn's past lives. But instead what we had was this:

What seems to be a simplified version of the Hotel from her dream sequence at the start of the episode (note the little beach chair on top). I mean, if Finn has a comet I guess Fionna's past life could be a building but... yeah I'm pretty sure that's just the hotel from the dream. It seems like the emerging pattern is Fionna dreaming about a location from the episode at each Ending Title Sequence.

Because the most important thing is that Fionna in the EP2 ending isn't just dreaming of a random butterfly....

That Butterfly is sitting on the MASK WORN BY THE 'EVIL BEAR' FROM THAT SAME EPISODE.

So Fionna is dreaming explicitly of a butterfly flying around in the Heart of Ooo. So if THIS is her past life that actually has far more Lore Implications than if the dream is just symbolic of the series' themes.

And you know, I was just kinda spitballing with that "Zhuang Zhou Dreams of Being a Butterfly" thingy. I still think there's something there especially with Fionna dreaming of Ice King and Ice King dreaming of Fionna but... there's a lot of interesting thematic meanings you can take from the butterfly if you don't insist on refusing to engage with it for silly reasons.

The aforementioned 'Butterfly Effect' concept is one. But you can also look at more general symbolism associated with butterflies. Such as Freedom (which is, when you get down to it, what Fionna is dreaming about more than anything) or Change and Transformation. You know, kinda like how the ending of this episode signified an important Change in the status que of both of our main leads?

And Transformation is a HUGE theme in this particular episode. You know, Simon's struggle of having being transformed into Ice King and now back to Simon again and how much it messed up his sense of identity? Or how his trauma Changed him? Or how he has a hard time coping with the Changes in his life and the world in general?

We'll probably need more than two episodes to really see what the pattern is with the ending titles and thus more reliably speculate on What Could It Mean. But with the information we have, I don't think it was just Fionna dreams of her past life. And even if it is, I think it's silly to totally discard all the thematic possibility of the butterfly. There's a reason why didn't just dream of being a Pink Slime, after all.

anyway, here’s more headcanons about one of my favorite books, I’ve already done one for Buddy specifically, but he’ll be included here again just because I love him that much 😀

although, this time, it’ll be about a bunch of the other characters as well (I don’t really have any drawings for this cause I didn’t really feel like it unfortunately, but hey, I bet this will still be fun-) sooooooo enough rambling, HERE WE GO-

(well- two more things, one, I have to thank the Character Headcanon Generator for providing some of these, I’ll specify which ones were from that, and two, cws/tws are in the tags, as always)

Of course we should start with the main protagonist, miss Wendy herself-

Wendy kind of finds it weird that she doesn’t have a mouth, but she would probably love Hello Kitty anyways

Speaking of cats, Wendy doesn’t exactly dislike them, but she does get a little nervous around cats

Wendy also dislikes any sort of animals that were/are kinda considered ‘gross’

Whenever Wendy has a hair scrunchy, she likes to put it around her wrist until she has to use it, and sometimes just wears them as accessories

Despite Elliot annoying her, Wendy really does care about him and his well being, a lot

Wendy is very observant to things she finds interesting

Wendy tries to not think about the whole incident, but she’s just glad most of the people involved were okay after

I like to think Wendy kept in touch with Diedre, Ivy and Jan after it all ended

Elliot doesn’t exactly have a favorite sport or game, he just takes whatever sport/game you throw at him, and he’ll probably like it (if he wins, of course-)

Elliot kept the King Coin Buddy gave him (and even the other five) as, uh, ‘souvenirs’

Elliot doesn’t own a single pair of matching socks (CHG)

Elliot doesn’t swear, obviously, but the one time he accidentally did, he made a ‘pact’ with Wendy for her not to tell anyone- (he had to give her some of his Halloween candy)

The incident didn’t scare Elliot too much, but he still doesn’t like to talk about when he had to see (and smell-) King Jellyjam

Elliot did, in fact, not complain about his dad’s garden fertilizer again-

BUDDY TIME ‼️‼️‼️

Buddy kinda has a ‘preppy’, bouncy walk (CHG)

Buddy has a slightly older brother named Robert (the only reason the camp wasn’t given to him instead is because he was busy preparing for college)

yes, Buddy is his real name

I know the whole ‘Buddy is between the ages of 17-18’ thing probably isn’t true but I still like to think it is anyway- so he’s 18

Buddy’s birthday is somewhere in February (haven’t decided exactly when lol)

Buddy is more of a dog person, he especially loves golden retrievers because they remind him of his hair-

Buddy kinda had some weird side effects after being freed from King JJ’s hypnosis, like only saying ‘Only the Best’ for a few days, aggressive shaking, uncontrollable crying sometimes, vomiting some weird purple stuff, etc.

not sure about this one cause it’s kinda disturbing, but I kinda like to think that Buddy’s brain was literally melting while being hypnotized, which is why he was acting all weird after he was freed (luckily, he has since recovered)

Buddy gained a giant bruise on his chest after the whole softball bat incident, but didn’t realize until after he was freed and went home, of course

Due to all the guilt he felt, Buddy had considered … y’know, ending it all before, although, luckily, he had never acted upon these thoughts

Buddy is secretly closeted, cause y’know, mid-90s (nah I’m just kidding …… maybe) (CHG)

Jeff was one of the ones who cried the most when all the children were freed, although, he’ll never admit that to anyone who didn’t see

The only way King Jellyjam can properly communicate with people is through his hypnosis victims’ minds, his voice is deep, kind of ‘royal’ sounding and it’s also gargled

King JJ’s favorite candle scent is a specific grape soda candle

King JJ wasn’t as huge as he was by y’know, his end when he first met Buddy, he was only about half the size of a house

Holly helped Buddy the most when he was going through all the side effects, and even helped tie the tie he wore at the end of the book

🐞 - What does a perfect day look like for your oc? What do they do? Who do they see?

For Laurel it would be a day where he manages to solve a complex case that also doesn't take too much sleep out of him while also being 100% happy with the results where he can go "Yes, I did something good this time" (So rarely LOL) and then go home without much issue without anyone extra trying to talk to him to sit down in front of his aquarium eating something sweet. Basically peak autism day for him where he does everything he likes and nothing that annoys or overwhelms him. An alternative is like if there is one of those aquarium conventions in the city where people all over the world bring and sell fish (Legally) and stuff for aquariums and just passes the whole day planning a new tank without, again, anyone trying to talk to him more than necessary or ever getting touched. Literally pure vibes.

Olive.... Olive just wants to rest LOL For her staying to long in one place would eventually lead her thoughts wandering into Bad Places, and going to work or tagging along Ryan and King's jobs just reminds her of her situation so that also is a no-go. I think a good day would just be one where she can try and do something pretending she is still a journalist, some low-stakes reporting while just hanging out around the city and not worrying, although the anxiety gets to her when she least expects it so U know, give or take.

They both could go to the aquarium and would have a pretty good day. Perfect date.

🥊 - Has your character ever been in a fight? Did they win? Do they fight often? Are they professionally trained or self taught? Do they enjoy fighting or only do so when necessary?

Their job usually forces them into fights from time to time and neither of them are particularly good LOL Laurel quickly resorts to firearms because that's the way he can try and take control over a situation, but Olive has been banned from using them (The first and only time she used a gun she did it so badly and in such an unsafe manner that she got hurt) so for her fights are straight up avoidance game, and if forced she would try to take advantage of the terrain to get away more than confront anyone.

They leave the fighting job to more capable people like Frederick or Tania or in Olive's case, King and his bazillion dogs or Ryan. Laurel is interesting because a lot of his relationship with Frederick is that if there was ever any issues, Laurel just waits for his friend to beat whoever is bothering them.

👠 - How does your oc dress? Are they stylish or casual? Do they keep up with trends or do their own thing? Do they prefer designer clothes or going to the thrift store? Do they have a signature item of clothing?

Teehee they dress like meee :3 But real talk, they do have a pretty similar style lol I will say Olive's prioritizes comfort while Laurel tries to look professional. Also Laurel is more used to buying his clothes from good places while currently, most of Olive's clothes have been given to her by someone else (Although she would buy if she could).

For signature Item mmmm I would say Olive's oversized jacket is important as it is the only thing she has left from Adrian, and now she uses it anytime she can. And for Laurel mmmm while I forget to add them LOL I would say is that he always has gloves on. It doesn't have to be an specific pair, if anything I think he has a bunch of them to make them fit with whatever he is wearing. He just has a bunch of gloves that he doesn't take off because if he ever was to touch something or someone and not like the texture (which is most of the time) he would cringe into non-existence and his whole day would be ruined lol.

AND FOR 🍓MMMM Like I said before I need to worldbuild whatever religion these people have (Is very similar to Christianity I just- Don't want it to be straight up Christianity U know? SDFG) but I do have some vague ideas so I will just make a lightning round of characters at the top of my brain 🍓 - Does your oc believe in anything? Are they superstitious? Religious? Atheistic? Has anything in their past made them this way?

Laurel - Atheist, he is a "I believe in science!" guy

Olive - Grew up with the religion but doesn't really believe. If anything she believes in luck over how bad hers is and if there is a god, it is out to get her Belen - Religious trauma and she will kill god with her bare hands

Frederick - The same as Laurel but actually holding religious shame.

Tania- She believes in god and practices her religion and she is normal about it

Mathew - Religious trauma and atheist. He no longer cares.

Sonia - Agnostic and normal about it

Ryan & Maria - Both grew up religious and still are but in a very casual way, only go to church if needed

King - Religious and in a very loving way because that's how his mom is. Hates the church because they mistreat people like his mom

Sebastian - Atheist and is extremely annoying about it

Mikan - Believes in god and she hates him so engages with Sebastian being annoying about it.

Raphael and really any of the Fjords- Really religious and whatever actions they take can be justified in the eyes of god... somehow.

Princess Meryl let out a frustrated yell as yet another bramble tore at her clothes.

She’d changed into a set of light leather armor she used during weapons training, the most practical clothes she owned. At least she thought they were, but her armor was still decorated with fine fabric trimming, until every little thorn and branch began to tear them all out. Ruined clothing or not, she couldn’t go back, couldn’t give up, because a dragon was terrorizing her kingdom, and no one had been able to stop it.

Everyone knew the stories, even Meryl, sequestered in the royal castle. The sight of it on the horizon was so terrible it sent both humans and animals fleeing before it. When its wings beat it brought down howling winds and vicious rains. Its flaming breath, bright as two suns, scorched everything beneath it.

It had taken months for her to steal enough intelligence and rumors from around the castle, to pinpoint a possible location for the dragon’s lair. No one else had been able to stop the dragon, and she wasn’t going to lay back and do nothing, not ever again.

Meryl grumbled, and looked up at the mountain before her, her guide on her journey. Her thoughts wandered back to her handmaid, who had promised to tell everyone she was sick with something horrifically contagious and deeply embarrassing. The princess needed to be quarantined, and would only allow Milly to visit her, to preserve her pride. Brave Milly Thompson, Meryl hoped she was okay.

An hour and many more torn frills later, she arrived at the mountain’s base, and the mouth of a large cave. Its sole inhabitant was waiting for her there

The dragon towered above her, red scales glittered like rubies in the afternoon sun, and it looked down at her with slitted blue eyes. Bright gold spikes lined its head and down the back of its neck. It was missing its left front leg, the stump scarred. Its hide was pockmarked with broken scales and scar tissue, this was a creature that had survived many deadly battles.

The dragon tilted its head to one side and blinked at her slowly.

The gesture reminded her so much of a cat she could only stare, stunned at the allegedly vicious creature. This couldn’t be the dragon that had been terrorizing the kingdom!

“Hi there?” said the dragon, like a politely confused guest at a party.

“Um…” Meryl boggled. Dragons could talk?

“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t try to slay me,” the dragon said, shuffling its feet. “Swords and spears hurt, you know!”

“Oh!” Meryl snapped back to reality, reminding herself that she was at her destination, the end of her quest. “No, I’m not here to slay you!” She tried to puff herself up, so she looked less like the petite princess and more like someone deserving of respect. “My name is Meryl Stryfe,” she lied with confidence. “And I want to talk to you!”

Nicholas was a knight.

He wasn’t given a choice.

“Sir Wolfwood of Hopeland,” said King Bernardelli from his throne, “My daughter has disappeared, possibly taken by some foul man or beast!”

A long time ago, he’d been plucked from the orphanage because a knight needed a squire, but couldn’t find a willing apprentice. That was enough to make him a knight now, because that’s all it took. You had to be chosen by the right person.

Kneeling before the king, Nicholas responded, “I will find her and bring her home, Your Majesty.”

It didn’t matter if he’d been trained by the knight with the worst reputation, once Wolfwood ended his training and passed all the royal trials, he became a knight of the realm. He became a part of the upper crust, was invited to fancy parties and grand tournaments. Wolfwood was the kingdom’s shield, the king’s sword, forged in flames to be a weapon of war.

“Go now, loyal knight,” the king commanded. “Do whatever it takes to bring Princess Meryl Bernardelli home!”

Nicholas he rose to his feet, and bowed. “By your will.”

He had a job. It kept him fed, and protected the orphanage he was stolen from. He had nothing else. Believed he needed nothing else.

Their lovely conversation was ruined when a knight appeared at Vash’s den.

“Hey, you!” said the knight, lifting a massive claymore in two hands. “By the authority of King Bernardelli, I have been commanded to…” he trailed off. Though his face was obscured by a black metal helmet, Vash could still see the knight lean forward to examine the spread between him and Meryl. “Are those… pastries?”

“Yeah!” Vash said, with a delighted wag of his spiked tail. “Meryl found a great bakery in a nearby village! Want one?”

The knight only gaped, the point of his sword landing in the soft dirt. Vash took the opportunity to use his long tongue to take another donut from his plate. Meryl had been the one to introduce him to this particular human invention, sweet on his tongue. Humans were so clever!

“I don’t care what the king says,” Meryl said still sitting comfortably on Vash’s collection of mismatched fabrics. She lifted her chin as she addressed the knight, used to others obeying her authority. “You can leave, you will not lay a hand on this dragon.”

“I’m here to rescue Princess Bernardelli from whatever wicked creature captured her!” the knight said, in a tone that was less ‘confident rescuer’ and more ‘walked into the wrong room and has no idea what’s happening’.

“Wait, princess…?” Vash turned to Meryl, who was dressed in nicely made if plain looking leather armor. Sure it had some frills that were torn as she’d gone through the woods, but she looked no different from the average adventurer. “You’re the princess?” Vash said with a startled flutter of his wings.

Princess Meryl groaned, and put her head in her hands. “People act weird if they know I’m a princess, and I wanted to know who you really were!”

“By lying to me?” Vash said, giving her what he hoped she understood to be a playful grin. Humans sometimes had trouble reading his face. Meryl picked up a scone, and tossed it at him. “Hey!” Vash protested as it bounced off his scales. “Don’t waste good treats like that!”

“Don’t ignore me!”

Both turned their attention back to the knight, still standing at the mouth of Vash’s den. Even clad in full armor, his presence was more flustered than menacing. Vash gave a smoky laugh.

Delicately, using the tips of his claws, Vash picked up a plate with chocolate chip cookies, and held it out to the knight. “Would you like one?”

“Oh my!” Milly stared in amazement and wonder. “I can’t believe my eyes! I knew you were serious ma’am, but this?”

She had been so worried for her friend, with no word from her months after helping the princess escape the castle. Milly knew her princess was strong and clever, and trusted in her plan to investigate the dragon plaguing the kingdom.

Secretly, Milly had been afraid she’d never see her best friend again. Then, weeks later, a very strange letter arrived.

She followed the directions carefully, until she wound up somewhere she’d never expected to see and live to tell the tale! She’d gone through the forest to the foot a a mountain, and a natural cave dug into its side. It was a dragon’s den, with Meryl waiting for her inside. Nearby, the dragon himself sat like a cat, legs tucked in neatly, with a man in knight’s armor, minus the helmet, tucked in against his side. The knight frowned down at his whittling, it looked like he was carving a bird.

“This is Vash,” Meryl said, indicating the dragon, who gave Milly a wave with a large paw. She waved back, enchanted. “And this is Wolfwood,” Meryl indicated the knight, who didn’t acknowledge her presence.

“It’s nice to meet you Mr. Vash, and Mr. Wolfwood!” Milly chirped.

“Sir Wolfwood!” he corrected. “I’m still a knight!”

The dragon responded to this assertion with a playful whack with his wing. Wolfwood answered Vash’s vicious attack by sitting his woodworking down to grab the limb and give it a tug. Vash whined, his struggles playful, careful not to genuinely hurt the human who was so much smaller than him. It was the last way Milly had ever expected to see a dragon and a knight fighting.

She took in the sights of the den around her: It was decorated with human knick-knacks, from incomplete paintings to scrap fabrics to broken farm tools, the detritus of humanity collected in curiosity and reverence. What she assumed was new were two spaces near the back that looked as if they’d been recently carved out from the stone. One was sparsely filled, containing only a leather pack and a helmet laying on a pile of blankets, the other filled with metal trinkets and books, her own makeshift bed twice as large as the knight’s was.

“I didn’t think a dragon’s home could be so nice!” Milly said in earnest admiration.

“…Thank you?” said Vash, with a cute draconic frown.

Meryl put a hand on her friend’s arm. “You understand why I can’t go back.”

“I do,” Milly said, taking her friend’s hand. “What should I tell everyone?”

Meryl bit her lip, and Milly ached for her. If Milly told the kingdom their princess was staying with a dragon, the king would raze the whole forest to rescue her from her ‘ensorcellment’. If Milly told the kingdom their princess was dead, the king would raze the whole forest in his search for revenge on the dragon. If she told the kingdom nothing about their princess, the king might raze the whole forest anyway in his desperation to find his daughter.

There were a lot of ways the king might raze the forest searching for Meryl. She didn’t think anyone actually wanted that.

“We’re still figuring things out,” Meryl admitted, squeezing Milly’s hand. “Please, trust me. We need time. There’s still another dragon out there, the one that’s really attacking people.”

Milly looked back at Vash and Wolfwood, who’d made some kind of truce. Wolfwood returned to his whittling, though now he was sitting directly on Vash’s long snout. “That sounds scary, but… I’m happy for you too. He’s very handsome.” Milly shrugged, and added with a grin. “And I guess the knight is okay looking too.”

“Shut up!” Wolfwood snapped without any real heat. Beneath him, Vash giggled.

Dragons could giggle! Milly thought she couldn’t smile any wider.

So like everyone has been everywhere already about how amazing Porsche is as a bisexual character who is manly and masculine and a very tall fit dude and yet he's allowed to be emotional and vulnerable and cute and flamboyant and sweet and in general kinnporsche never treated him like he needed to be one way or another to fit a certain mold as a man (or a man in a gay relationship that is the bottom which is also a whole can of worms)

But can I just say specifically how much I love that they made it really clear that when they have sex Porsche likes being picked up. He likes being picked up and held, he likes being in Kinn's lap, he likes Kinn actually physically lifting him up, they show this multiple times, and I don't think I've ever seen it shown you don't have to be a physically small man to enjoy having your partner do things like that. How are you watching Heartstopper and taking in the entire plot whilst bullying the actor who has an undefined sexuality off of their own social media in the same way the story literally shows the bullies behaving. You’re quick to attack someone who’s not even defined. If this wasn’t a celebrity, and was alone, then deleting social media over this bullying could further isolate them, which if someone is queer, we get pushed into isolation enough as it is. It could be dangerous, it could result in much worse things.

God forbid someone might be bisexual as well, because all bisexuals are totally queer baiting fake gays and fake straights (sarcasm).

Someone said on Twitter: “If I was Kit Connor I wouldn't come out either. He's not exactly been welcomed with open arms."

And I absolutely agree, you’re creating an unsafe environment. Did you even watch the series properly? Look at yourselves.

The start and predominant part of the story is literally about a guy being forced out before he was ready and then experiencing bullying, fear and being alone pretty much for the rest of the school year until he met Nick.

It’s swinging to “you have to come out or else we will destroy your life” vibes yet even if he did, he would still very much have to experience homophobia straight away/bullying if he is, because it is still risky to come out in our society, and people can take as long as they want to feel like doing that. He’s comfortable in his sexuality, and that’s all that matters and it’s no one’s business but his but jumping to “faking it” to someone who doesn’t wanna define it, is 100% disgusting. You don’t know anything about what he likes so don’t dish your judgment, bully.

Come out and be attacked by homophobes or don’t come out and be attacked by us (tbh that behaviour in some cases is homophobic bc of the instant denial and bullying surrounding their potential queerness being real despite not even knowing them or anything).

9/10 queer baiting massacres I’ve personally seen have be towards queer people, or those who later come out as queer. Ya think?? Yeah lemme just make out with the same gender for the lols despite knowing it could end my career in this pretty homophobic industry.

Jessie J came out much later because she was told her career would be over if she came out as gay, and was barely “allowed” to come out as bi, many more older celebrities are finally able to come out now as well and have recently too, which shows how much the industry repressed them and how unsafe it still is and has been, to come out as a celebrity.

I think it’s egotistical to think that we’re the only beings that exist in a universe that is always expanding. We’re nothing but a speck in the grand scheme of things. Why would we be that special?

ENCHANTED — WHAT FICTIONAL CHARACTER SCARES YOU MOST?

George Harvey from The Lovely Bones. It’s one of my favorite movies, but it’s one of those that you can only watch once. His character is horrifying.

HAUNT — DO YOU BELIEVE IN HAUNTED OBJECTS?

Maybe not literally haunted. But I feel like you can definitely sense someone’s soul whenever comes to certain objects. Like you can feel pain in a lot of his artwork, making his paintings give off the feeling of being haunted. Our emotions remain even after we’re long gone.

SPELLS — DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?

Not literal magic, but more along the lines of humans are so creative that our talents and skills create magic. For example, ballet dancers are magical because they’ve put in so much dedication to their craft that dancing becomes intertwined with them. It’s our capabilities, gifts, and efforts to achieve our dreams that make us magical.

GRAVEYARD — DO YOU BELIEVE ANY CONSPIRACY THEORIES? IF SO, WHICH ONES?

Not really. I’ve never really had much interest in them to be honest.

POTION — FAVORITE HORROR MOVIE?

Jordan Peele’s Get Out, but I’m always open to recommendations!

FULL MOON — DO YOU BELIEVE IN REINCARNATION?

I’m not sure. I think there’s potential for anything. Maybe not physically, but more so with the idea that we live on in the hearts of others. Your impact, no matter how small, never leaves.

VAMPIRE — ARE YOU AFRAID OF DEATH?

I don’t think so. I obviously wish death didn’t exist, but it’s not necessarily something that I’m fearful of.

Not in the physical sense, but more in the emotional sense. Even after we pass on, we’re still here in the memories of those who loved us. We may not be with them physically, but we live in on in their hearts. We become ghosts because our souls are still living whenever they think of us.

MIDNIGHT — LAST HORROR MOVE THAT YOU’VE WATCHED?

Not a movie, but I usually rewatch MTV’s Scream series each year. I was really into it in high school and it’s a show that I still enjoy to this day. Season three is probably my favorite! They had changed the cast and “rebooted” it for that season, which I was apprehensive about. However, I found myself very surprised when I enjoyed the results! They included Keke Palmer in the new cast, which was definitely a plus because I’ve always really enjoyed her work!

SKELETON — WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR?

Probably being alone. I won’t go into details, but I have my reasons and I think about this idea often.

CRYSTAL BALL — WHEN IS A TIME YOU GOT CAUGHT?

I can’t think of anything right off the top of my head as funny as that sounds, but I’m sure I got caught doing loads of stuff I wasn’t supposed to be as a kid, much like everyone else.

MAGIC — HAVE YOU HAD ANY NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES?

Not sure if it was “near-death”, but I had a bike wreck when I was younger that did some very serious damage.

RAVEN — FAVORITE FAIRYTALE?

Adolphe Adams’ Giselle — even though it’s a ballet, I’m still counting it because it definitely has the vibes and themes of classic fairytales. It was based on a prose passage in De L’Allemagne by Heinrich Heine as well as Victor Hugo’s poem, Fantômes.

OUIJA — HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED WITH A OUIJA BOARD?

No, I haven’t. Not that I’m afraid to or anything, I’ve just never even seen one in real life. I’ve only ever seen them in movies and stuff, so I guess it never crossed my mind to try one out.

Today was a bad day for Virgil. Now, Virgil had been skittish for the past few days ever since Patton and Logan had left him half asleep on the sitting room rug and came back to him crammed into a closet with Princess Marisol for company. He hadn’t told them what had happened, but obviously something had, and he’d been jumpy ever since. However, today seemed even worse.

The snow outside had only gotten thicker in the last few days since the first snowfall, and it had put Virgil’s anxieties through the roof. Often literally.

She, at least, was still in bed, happily perched on Logan’s pillow. “Oh, sweetie,” Patton said. “You know Logan doesn’t like cat hair on his stuff. She just purred happily, and Patton didn’t bother to push the issue any further. Instead, he turned to the closet.

He tapped twice. “Hey, Virgil, honey. Are you in there?” he asked, though he already was fairly certain of the answer.

There was a pause and then Virgil called back. “Yeah.”

“Can I open the door?”

A longer pause.

“Can I open the door long enough to join you in there?”

“…Sure.”

With the granted permission, Patton reached for the doorknob. He didn’t open it much, just enough to slip inside. He closed the door behind him. He’d seen the general position of the Virgil sized blob on the floor and so was able to carefully lower himself down a couple of inches away without sitting on him.

“Hey,” he said after settling with his head on his arm. He faced Virgil even though he couldn’t see him in the darkness of the closet. He reached out a hand and felt a head of hair.

“Hi,” he replied.

Patton’s hand wandered a bit until it landed somewhere on his back.

“Not feeling great, huh?” he asked. Virgil’s shoulder blade shifted under his palm and there was a rustle of fabric. Virgil fell back asleep for a bit in Patton’s arms, and when he woke again, he seemed to be a bit better. At least, he reached over to activate the constellation lights Logan had made him.

Patton blinked, finally able to see him a little bit. He smiled at the other boy. “Ready to come out of the closet, you think?”

Virgil frowned.

“How about you sit in the closet, but with the door open so we can do something?”

“Maybe,” Virgil whispered.

“Okay,” Patton said, leaning forward to kiss him on the nose before sitting up and opening the closet door a crack. “What do you want to do?”

“Don’t care,” Virgil said, hiding his face half in his blanket, but at least he seemed mostly okay with having the door open.

“Hmm,” Patton said, thinking. “Do you like drawing?”

Virgil shrugged. “I dunno.”

“Hmm, well, let’s try drawing!” Patton suggested. “That always calms me down. I’m sure I left some supplies in Logan’s room somewhere.” Patton crawled out of the closet and started rooting through Logan’s drawers until he found where he’d stashed a bunch of blank paper and some drawing supplies. “Here,” he said, dumping most of it on the ground.

Virgil’s eyes darted over to the supplies, and he slowly sat up. “How do I do it?” he asked.

“You mostly just get a piece of paper,” he said, “and something colorful and you draw!”

Virgil squinted at him.

“It’s not hard,” he promised. “Just watch me.”

Patton grabbed one of the colorful pens and set a piece of blank paper on a tray he’d brought over. He drew a slightly messy bumble bee and colored it in with yellow. Virgil watched him carefully like he was trying to memorize every slight shift Patton’s hand made.

“Tada!” Patton said when he was done. “A bee. Now you draw something.”

Virgil nodded with an adorable little determined furrow to his brow and moved to copy Patton’s actions. Exactly.

“That’s great honey,” Patton said once he’d finished his drawing, “but, uh, you don’t have to also draw a bee. You can draw anything you want!”

He frowned down at his bee and then frowned at Patton. Patton sighed. “Pick something you like,” he said, “and try to draw it. Or just make colorful designs. I do that sometimes. It’s just supposed to be for relaxing. Here,” he picked up a blue pen and handed it to him. “Draw something that’s blue.”

Virgil took the pen and grabbed another piece of paper. He hesitated. “Just draw anything?” he asked.

“Yep!” Patton replied cheerfully. “You could draw water or the sky or a sapphire gem. Or you can pick up a different color.”

He nodded and turned back to his piece of paper.

Patton kind of wanted to just stare at him work, but thought he probably would not appreciate that, so he turned back to his own drawing. He decided to draw a red bird this time. After a while Virgil’s hand hesitantly reached out to grab the green pen. Patton glanced up to give him a quick smile, and he took the green pen with more confidence.

After a few more minutes, he noticed Virgil set the green pen down and not pick anything else up. “Done?” he asked. Virgil nodded and Patton looked over.

“Very pretty,” he said with a smile when he saw the messy, but identifiable blue flower.

“It doesn’t look like it does in my head,” Virgil said.

“Well, drawing takes practice, and even after you practice sometimes it doesn’t have to look like what’s in your head! Some people make it look slightly wrong on purpose.”

“Why?”

“Art!”

Virgil squinted at him and then squinted at his drawing. “This is art.”

“It’s very beautiful art,” Patton said. “We should put it up somewhere!”

“Where?”

“I don’t know,” said Patton somewhere in the room, “like over by the window! That way you can see a flower even when it’s snowing.”

Virgil hesitated. “Would Logan be okay with that?” he asked. “It’s his room.”

“I’m sure he’ll be fine with it,” Patton said with a smile.

“If you’re sure,” he said softly.

“I am! We’ll show him later once he’s done with his meetings with his dad and I’ve finished my lessons with the king’s royal advisor this afternoon.”

1. What project are you most proud of and why?

Does the entirety of Febuwhump count? On January 3rd 2020 (about a week after I got into The Witcher and realised it was going to rule my life for the next few years lmao) I decided I wanted to write a fic for each day of Febuwhump and that each fic would be 2k or longer. I ended up writing 112k (29 fics) in 11 fandoms over the span of 56 days. I literally did nothing but work my day job, play Witcher 3, work out, eat and write for those two months haha. I love challenges like these - and for most of it I had tons of fun (especially with stuff I don’t usually find time to write, like Aragorn/Boromir or Geralt/Aragorn)! It was only the last week or so where I got REALLY stressed because some fics ended up waaaaaaay longer than planned (looking at you, Eye for an Eye and Like Air!).

If we are talking about single fics, it’s a tossup between To the Ground and Old Rain. I wrote both of those in that rare state I sometimes I get into where I just can’t stop writing and every word hurts but also feels RIGHT. (Usually, my writing is very methodical - 250 words per day per project, every day, unless I am away in the evenings).

I think To The Ground is still one of the most in-character things I’ve ever written and I still don’t know if I’ll ever be able to capture Iorveth and Roche quite like this again, in their whole endlessly tragic glory. Old Rain is...well. Old Rain. That one was an exorcism of some old, old ghosts and a meditation on the horrible force that love is and the terrible and beautiful things it enables us to do. And the soft and quiet end that comes once you’ve finally laid your demons to rest, knowing that you will never truly be whole, but a little less broken at least. Love. Love is always the answer.

I also have to give a special shoutout to Broken Pieces of the Night, which is also one of this fics where everything just felt right when I was writing it.

2. Which project did you have the most fun making?

The most fun I’ve had writing anything is actually something I’m finishing up right now and that will be done in the next few days, hopefully. HA. But that’s a cop-out. Cooperating with @camilleisback for Hunting Monsters was fantastic, we were on a RIDE with that one! The big bangs I’ve participated in were also all great, every single one of the artists I was paired with was WONDERFUL.

Also the crackships, like Geralt/Aragorn and Geralt/Venom :D

3. Which project was the most unexpected and/or challenging and why?

Oof, that’s a difficult one. I’m struggling a lot with Chapter 4 of Simplicity right now - mostly because I really REALLY want to get to a certain scene, but to get there I’ve got so much else to write first, and I’m trying to figure out how Iorveth reacts to and interacts with all the other people at Kaer Morhen and it’s a big cast and yeah :V . I was also very very nervous about making Iorveth ace in that fic and rewrote chapters 2 and 3 a bunch of times. Things that are too close to my own life are usually something I avoid putting in fic, funnily enough.

I also spent a lot of time deleting and re-writing things in Our times, because there was a lot of stuff I really wanted to get right. (There are actually huge chunks that I ended up deleting in the end because I chickened out. One day I’ll manage to write a fic that includes this stuff. One day I’ll find the courage and do it. One day :))

4. Which project would you like to receive more attention?

Any of my Vesemir-centric fics haha! Listen, carrying the Vesemir Simp Society/ old wolf DILF fandom almost entirely on my shoulders is hard, hard work okay. 😂😂😂

But yes, ofc it’s gonna be Old Rain. And Every Little Scar. And I know exactly why they haven’t received as much attention as some of my other works - one is Vesemir’s life story and something that, I imagine, is quite triggering for a lot of people to read because there’s a lot of abuse and broken souls in there. And the other comes with the ‘major character death’ tag EVEN THOUGH HE GETS UNBURIED, MIGHT I ADD, which is usually also a big detractor in fics.

I’d also love to have more people on the Iorveth/Letho boat with me because hoooly moly is that an interesting ship. Go, read Distractions.

5. Is there a project you intended to work on but couldn’t find the time? If so, what is it?

There’s a few that I hope I’ll get around to in the new year if time allows! I still have that 5+1 Filavandrel/Vesemir thing knocking around in my brain, as well as some modern Rorveth and Iorveth/Letho set in the same universe. And I really want to write some more Geralt/Eskel in an AU for this painting.

(In the meantime, you should all go read C’s The Right Hand of a King, which is based on the same piece of art and UTTERLY breathtaking. It’s just so good.)

I’m also very fond of the idea that I used as basis for Seedlings, where Vesemir lives and turns Kaer Morhen into a true home for wayward witchers, so that all those still spread across the continent without a home now have somewhere to go. Vesemir and Letho interacting is something I need to write more of (as is Letho and Eskel interacting, I’ve realised).

I also have yet another original novel idea that I want to write. Let’s see if that goes anywhere or goes to the graveyard or half-finished novels like the previous three, rip. (Original settings and characters are so HARD hnkdhfks)

6. Have you noticed an improvement in your skill this year? Did a specific project help?

Heck yeah! Trite as it sounds, but practice is really important for me in learning a skill and writing soooo much this year has really helped me focus and improve my writing in areas I felt I was shaky at. I’m so proud to see how far I’ve come in comparison to my first fics in English ten years ago! In particular, I think I’ve gotten a lot better at the gritty/gory bit of whump and porn, lol (though I blame the latter on HRT...). I’ve also become better at weaving themes in general into my work, I feel. I did a lot of planning for Every Little Scar with deliberate foreshadowing, callbacks and themes and all that between the different chapters and I loved seeing that come to fruition. I wonder how many people noticed any of that 😂.

7. If you could remake any project you’ve created this year, which one would it be and why?

That’s gonna be the fic I wrote for Day 11 of Febuwhump lmao. I hate the damn thing because as I was writing I had already started detesting the ship and you can really tell in the final product imo. I’d rewrite for a different ship now - in fact I’d have deleted it if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s part of the Febuwhump challenge I set myself and I can’t just leave a gaping hole in the middle of it, no no no.

8. What project would you like to make next year?

I basically answered this under 5, whoops. Here, let’s talk about cosplay stuff instead - I really want to finish my cosplays for Father Gascoigne, Iorveth and Eskel next year! :))))
