it's been over a week but i legit haven't stopped thinking about this
#because i think it doesn't just apply to book publishing but really any kind of writing#including fanfiction#especially in current fandom times when everything feels just so fast paced#and it's SO easy to fall into this whole mindset of believing you gotta keep up with this pace#a lot of smart people have said a lot of smart things about the current state of fandom and i won't fall into a rant here#but i too often have to remind myself that me writing is supposed to be fun and not a fucking race#that i'm not competing with anyone#that i'm not creating 'content' to be consumed like some fast food#that there's no such thing as a flop fic if it was written with love and drive behind it#and yeah the jealousy man#it's an ugly feeling no matter which end you're on#comparison is a knife which we inevitably walk into#i love my writer friends to death and i will always always always cheer for them bc no one else will get this#but we're all just humans with very real and sometimes ugly emotions and i wish we could talk about this more openly#at the end of the day we want to be seen and acknowledged and we're our very own worst critics#ugh i have too many thoughts about this all#i need to lie down and feel normal again#lale.txt

different person here but also, dean does constantly compare sam to female characters, especially in the early seasons, which is a big part of the reason i (and others) think dean somewhat sees sam as a women/questions his masculinity
i understand that, anon, and i also think supernatural was made in 2005 and the writers were/are misogynistic. this falls away more in the later seasons, especially when dean becomes more comfortable in his own masculinity and femininity and isn’t performing to the degree he is in originally. i don’t take much stake in this as a reading unless it takes into account that dean is the one who is narratively compared to women (he’s named after his grandma, deanna, compared to mary, has baby as a metaphor for his body who he refers to as she/her, is a direct comparison to amara, etc.) and is chastised for being too emotional by sam. it’s not to say that they’re invalid readings, or that headcanons aren’t perfectly okay, but i think when we’re comparing two characters who are written as men (particularly cis men) in canon, discussing who is more girl coded is just odd to me. that’s my personal opinion. i’m a big fan of transnatural as well, so this not a criticism of that by any means. headcanons, fanart, fanfic, etc. do not have to be based in canon. but i stand by my belief that many of the people who say sam is girl coded in canon are particularly focused on the pain and shame of femininity, and i just don’t like to think in that way. i think we could better focus on characters who are written to be women.

We ought to write more Pokemon fic some time. We want to recreate the Pokemon Manners/Human Manners cheat sheet that we made a few years ago we think that this site would like the Sliding Scale Of Politeness When Greeting A New Pokemon You've Never Met Before.
#we speak#writing#we grew up with pmd games and we feel like the way that pmd pokemon's dialogue tends to be excessively... direct?#should be a feature and not a bug when any pokemon that you meet might be totally unfamiliar with your species and biology#it's probably very polite to start up front with some basic facts about yourself so they know how to act going forward#the very upfront feel to dialogue also very much helps with keeping the dialogue feel more... pokemon#people mock the series for weird npc dialogue a lot but we think that taking these things literally makes for more fun society building#it doesn't all have to fit with socially acceptable for our world we think. polite in our world isn't even consistent by household.#sometimes a polite interaction sounds like “hello! i'm poochyena! i like to chase people and bite!”#name and immediately socially useful information. now you know about the chasing people and biting so you don't assume it's rude#of course poochyena bites and chases people. it likes to do that. you can say you don't like that and it might stop doing that to You#but it will not stop biting and chasing people because that's what it likes to do and it will probably only befriend people okay with that#it makes a very specific dialogue feel that's very fun to do. we like how the pokemon world tends to treat any sort of like#disability or “weird” things as something that you just say out the gate and everyones like “oh okay”#and then treat that as Part Of Interactions going forwards. there are a surprising amount of parts of the pokemon manga#that are dedicated to working around a character's disability after one or all of their means of dealing with it get taken out#admittedly we aren't that caught up on newer content but we find the way that it tends to be just Accepted as very refreshing#making the dialogue this direct does also tend to make it read as more “childish” in english and particular because a lot of Maturity's jus#learning how to dance around what you're saying or phrase it in different ways to get your idea across differently#whereas here everything is just as direct as possible. “i don't like charmander”. “i like roasting berries”. “i want to dig things up”.#all pokemon dialogue tends to go towards being exceedingly simple and it makes for some very distinct writing#especially when you have to tackle complex situations with characters who probably dont employ that sort of vocabulary#though we personally enjoy doing this sort of stuff your mileage may vary ofc#we are biased towards this sort of thins because we find it MUCH more fun to build up what we're talking about from blocks#than to like. try and use more indirect wording that may lose things in translation#unfortunately this is not fun in irl conversation. everyone has to be on the same page and you need to use the same playbook to communicate#we REALLY wish people said what they meant though. we're really tired of being asked shit like “is this accessible”#when what they mean is “can you climb these stairs” a question which depends on the day our energy level and how things have been going#there are a lot of things we could say that would make us feel like some sort of anti sjw type guy and a lot of em boil down to just#"for the love of god dont dance around a Sensitive Topic just get to the point and ask us about it this just makes things harder for everyo

#ed 2389473298#ed tw#<- just in case. because i guess it kind of is#i think it's fun to think about the specific ways he would struggle#a couple years ago i stopped being able to eat meat for maybe 4ish months because seeing it made me feel sick#i think like w all the blood on his hands (even pre ws) he'd have a hard time going back to eating meat normally. does that make sense#like with that metabolism he would need a shit ton of food to get him through a day#so i'd imagine not being able to keep enough in to sustain himself would do a number on his recovery#it's probably something he would have dealt with for a long time too because once you fuck your body up like that#it's hard to come back from it. he could and WOULD it's important to note that he can (and did) heal#but i wish there was more in-universe content about what he was going through. alone#after eg in particular because he was obviously very lonely before fatws#he very obviously was doing terrible no friends no family and that therapist was doing an awful job. so#even in wakanda we don't really see him especially close with anyone at all. he had a bond with ayo clearly but it's hard to say how close#they were when none of it was showed#and then he fucks off at the end of fatws like no come back. you're not done#world's loneliest puppy#capwoof

I've always liked this line of dialogue from SQX, because it does feel like at the end of the day, no matter how much SQX says he can't stand PM, he does still have a decent grasp of his character.
And on the other side of this, these words are just especially pointed towards Pei Xiu, who does have a good relationship with his boss/ancestor, and also going off his backstory, Pei Ming may well have been the first person in his life to acknowledge him and his talents.
So the whole thing just feels extra sad.
#that said it does bug me that px never seems to feel guilt over his own actions only how those actions affect banyue and pei ming#get it together you sopping wet cat of a man!#i've always wanted to write this but don't have the skills necessary#but i think a lot about if pm's faith in px does feel uncomfortable - is he acknowledging him because he sees his worth#or because he's a pei (something that has never helped px in any way in life)#everyone calls px a nepo baby but no no he's a hard worker and earned what he has#if anything i feel like being pei ming's descendant is still dragging him down because he's the only upper court official we know of#who's playing subordinate to someone else instead of managing his own domain#(fandom always thinks he's middle court but no its stated several times that he ascended properly lol)#(and i just find that beautifully tragic and fitting in his own way)#(px: always the understudy never the lead)#aaaanyway this all contrasts in a fun way with sqx who is the actual nepo baby#is also worshiped in conjunction with someone else BUT never reduced to just that relationship#idk just as pei ming's relationship with both shiblings is important to me#i find sqx's relationship with both peis very fascinating and wish sqx + px could be explored more#and also I want to see where swd + px fit into all of this because there's also so much potential there!#(incidentally the thing that started all of this is i was skimming the russian tl for something the other day)#(and noticed this line was translated as 'pei ming would never behave in such a way')#(and just thought that sqx calling him 'pm' here instead 'your general pei' gives the line a different vibe haha)#(it's sounds both more intimate and pointed if that makes sense?)#(anyway can you tell i am very starved for peixuan content? both peixuans)#tgcf#random tgcf thoughts#shi qingxuan#pei ming#pei xiu

it's kind of weird to me that they didn't bother releasing sushi and tempura internationally at all but at the same time i'm kinda glad they didn't cuz like. yo-kai watch was financially failing in the west by the time 3 released. i feel like if they had released sushi and tempura the franchise would've completely tanked before we got sukiyaki which would've sucked. honestly if anything i feel like it's more surprising that we got all three versions of 2 instead of them just releasing psychic specters but tbf i think yo-kai watch was doing well in the west when 2 released. 2 is just inexplicably what killed the franchise despite being a masterpiece-

Especially today that T/witter and G/oogle have basically become unusable.#Literally. Literally. I've been doing official content archiving since I was 11#(because that's the very specific kind of mental illness I have)#and let me tell you that the quality of web search and especially reverse image search only got worse–#in a way that is very evident and noticeable. There is such a ridiculous divide between canon!Bobby and fanon!Bobby. I think your precious anon has forgotten that just bc fanon might interpret a character a certain way doesn’t make it true. Like we’re all here to have fun, what a weird take to attack how someone does that in a way that isn’t harmful. PLUS Kinky bathena is not only canon, I could write an essay on canon behavior that isn’t explicitly kinky (like past is prologue is) that could support kinky bathena. You keep doing you with the cute art and ignore these haters.
Canon or fanon I wish we could all just co-exist together at opposite corners of the fandom playroom! We don't have to agree on everything and that's fine! (Normal even!)
Not only that but this kind of behavior just makes more of a divide and might cause people to be afraid of joining the fandom because it's not a safe space to create or enjoy characters the way they may like to!! Someone very well could share your views or love your ideas but if you turn it into a toxic environment it could dissuade them from even participating in the fandom at all!!
And it just bums me out that someone could really enjoy something but someone makes them feel unwelcome! Especially for enjoying something like two consenting adults?! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING MEE?! Like out of all the things to be mad at in the world and you choose to be upset about something that's fictional... that you can avoid if you wanted to...? Okay I guess!!

It drives me mad that we *still* know basically nothing about Melina.
#elden ring#melina#seriously what's her deal?#What was that purple eye?#Why did she pick us?#Leading up to the DLC I was almost certain that she was Trina considering the purple and the sleep mist and the Miquella connections#and I still think it would have been preferable if she had been and she tasks us with bringing her other half to heel#but unfortunately nice things don't happen#I just wish we could save her without turning to Frenzy#I also just wish we got to interact with her more#I would have adored if we finally got a level up maiden we could actually be friends with#shanalotte and DS3keeper get close in certain routes (especially considering cut content for the former)#but I want to be Melina's partner!
