Reconstructing Caroline

In Portal canon, Caroline is already a certified narrative haunter, but in this AU she plays an even bigger role; plus, we get to see her through the eyes of other characters. So, I thought it'll be interesting to compile her most prominent* appearances, both as herself and as Gladys.

* — Sadly, I haven't put much thought into Clairvoyance images or figments featuring her yet... Maybe sometime later?

Gladys Calvin and Caroline Caramia:

That's right, they have last names now, like any self-respecting Psychonauts character should. I'm not even kidding, announcing this fact was literally the main goal of this post. If you know what (or, rather, who) Gladys's last name refers to, go get some choccy milk bc that makes you epic in my eyes. If you know how to pronounce Caroline's last name, go get an extra glass, because even I'm not sure about the right pronunciation.

To quickly recap their backstory for posterity: when Cave Johnson died (?) and things went super south for Aperture Paranormal, Agent Caramia was so scared of accidentally revealing the dark secrets of the company, she saw no other choice but to blow up her mind with a lil' bit of help from a certain someone. After that, a new person emerged from the rubble of Caroline's fractured mind — Gladys, the ultimate skeptic. Her goal is to disprove the existence of psychic powers, which she deems to be nothing more than pseudoscience, and close off Aperture Paranormal and/or Psychonauts at large; this agenda, however, doesn't stop her from using these same powers herself.

Rattenkönigin, The Rat Queen:

Finally, some genuine Psychonauts creepiness in a Psychonauts AU. This giant rat that makes all the rules is the final boss of Rattmann's mindscape. Not unlike El Odio, she roams the level, hanging from the sky and using her hands to stride around and catch unsuspecting victims — her main goals, however, are Doug and his faithful friend, Companion Cube.

There's a strategy to fighting her, albeit an involved one. You have to utilise Invisibility, which Doug fortunately bestows upon Chell, to avoid being caught, and Psi-Blast to shoot smaller rats — only when they're down will the main hand drop the head rat and make it vulnerable. And you also want to avoid the Confusion gas explosions these smaller rats emit, because apparently they're just as prone to do that upon defeat as the rats from Thorney Tower.

Lifeline:

Found in Mr. Johnson's mind, this is the first version of Caroline proper that's encountered by Chell and Wheatley. Pretty as a postcard, and just as flat, this lovely assistant may not carry over the intelligence, or exact height, of her real-world progenitor, but that doesn't stop her from staying fiercely loyal to Cave. She even calls him her "noble psychomaster" — now that's an odd nickname. But I do wonder what Cave thinks of her...

Another post! This time featuring what the antagonists for my AU might look like. While Akane and Nekomaru are locked in the rest is up to changes in the future. Kyoko and Celestia were put on a poll but the results I believe I didn't set up properly, so now I'm amending that somewhat. I drew both sets in these sketches, and when enough time has passed I'll set up another poll, properly this time on strawpoll.

As for some design explanations and lore you can check under the cut :)

Kyoko and Makoto I believe are pretty straightforward here, I gave Kyoko a neckerchief that goes pretty far down to give her that sort of upper class educated look, while Makoto I gave a smart little jacket. There's only so far you can go with the normal boy, but I also made his hair fluffier and nicer. His ahoge is there but it's normally combed back, and only springs to full life when he's in murder mode.

Kyoko joined her dad in leaving the tradition of detective work behind and entered the business world where she used her analytical mind to be the best damn stock investor in the world, while definitely something she excels at it's not something she finds particularly fulfilling.

Makoto is a wholesome, normal dude who loves writing books about wholesome stories with good endings, while his family was and still is normal, he was captured once by unscrupulous scientists wanting to explore Despair and its mysterious qualities. Makoto never gave in, but in his suffering developed an alter ego who was grimly invested in justice above all else.

Sparkling Justice is a night haunter, who exclusively goes around killing murderers and evildoers against Makoto's wishes. Choosing to right any injustice he sees in the world, allowing for happy endings for the victims, surely?

I went hard with celes and hifumi a long time ago in previous designs, so here they are with similar designs as I gave them before. Hifumi wears a suit vest, and a button-up underneath while still keeping his bag... which may or may not be more than just a simple bag...

Celestia was born a normal kid and absolutely hated that life, so when a relative of hers from Europe visited she begged them and her family to go with them and she did. She grew up exploring Europe, and would propose money-making schemes to her family abroad and would eventually be able to fund the glamorous lifestyle she always thought she deserved.

Hifumi is just a writer-focused version of himself, though with a particular love for action-romance novels and fiction rather than strictly heart-melting novels like Touko. He's a sweet boy but very weird and horny for Celestia, so he's completely useless around her. He's basically a tool... just like...

ROBO-JUSTICE is a serial killer known for their modus operandi of targeting particularly attractive and very mean women with hammers or blunt force trauma. This alter was formed after one particularly awful night of bullying resulting in Hifumi getting thrown into an abandoned industrial park and nearly dying from exposure to wires and sharp metal. Despite this though, it is almost entirely subservient to Celestia whenever it surfaces from Hifumi's mind.

Akane and Nekomaru I've already drawn before, but I think it'd be nice to give some of the backstory I've planned for them.

Akane is a well-meaning, brash, and reckless person whose freakish natural strength pairs with a luck that does everything except help her directly. Random and unpredictable, Akane desperately tries everything she can to get into extremely unpredictable and dangerous situation for her luck to grace those around her with the best outcome from her misfortune, even if it means hurting a lot of people in the process.

Nekomaru was inspired by the nonstop hard work he saw the nurses had to do when they were treating his heart condition. So inspired that he made it his solemn vow to join them whatever it took, leading him to become the ultimate nurse. He would, however, be the first of his classmates to fall to the despair of the mastermind, as his well-meaning nature drew him into a trap he could not predict.

For Rantaro and Tenko I took inspiration from M. Bison(Dictator) and Criss Angel specifically. These are the most experimental designs I have as you can tell, but I plan on working on them a lot.

Tenko's story involves her becoming the head of her little "dojo" and straight up turning it into a cult, with her as the ultimate supreme leader and the greatest fighter in the world.

Rantaro started off doing magic for her sisters, and got so good at making them happy that one of them introduced his magic act to the world through sites like youtube, causing him to become a sensation drooled over by millions of girls around the world.

I went into my spaceship, I heard that fucking voice that sounded like Diane again. That thing I built to haunt me. It was the least I could do. Diane's death was all my fault. I wasn't fast enough. If I didn't fucking stand there, frozen in shock like a pussy, she'd still be alive today. I'm sure of it. But then again, I'm sure if Prime wanted someone dead, there's not a lot anyone can do to stop him. "Is that symbolic? Are you letting go? I understand baby!" She..I mean it laughed a little. Ignore her…ignore it…igno- "I forgive you!" What? Fuck no. I couldn't let myself hear this. This wasn't her! I snapped "You don't get to say! You're not her! You're a thing I built to torture myself! This whole fucking timeline is cursed! I gotta get out of here!" She spoke with mock sympathy, "Because you wanna move on." "BECAUSE I DON'T!" I held back to urge to hit myself for letting myself say that. I thought of Beth, Summer…Morty. "A-burp-nd I have to." I looked over in the direction of the voice…it was almost like talking to her again. "I came back on accident…the guy I'm looking for…he's not findable Diane…" I closed my eyes and recollected myself. "I live with a version of Beth now…" Diane exclaimed, "Sounds like a version of nice!" Heh, I'm sure she'd love to hear about our grandkids. I could talk to her about them all day, I know that she'd love Morty. I'm sure the kid would love her too. I continued "We have grandkids, that's who Summer is. She's going to get me out of here." I thought about Summer, her determination…her spirit…"She reminds me of you." Diane spoke, and you could basically hear the smile in her voice (if she wasn't a disembodied voice) "Oh really?" I almost smiled, until her voice stopped me in my tracks "Is she dead too?" I looked down. "Goodbye Diane."

I prepared to fly into the rift, the voice stopped my train of thought "You're not honestly going to fly into the rift without coordinates, are you?" I felt my stomach churn with her next words "Don't give up on us, Rick!" The voice continued "I don't make the rules! Haunters gonna haunt!" My unibrow furrowed. Ignore, ignore, ignore. I began flying, seeing the rifts, I could still hear the fucking voice "Baby?" Fuck. Hearing Diane's voice say that again…..no. It wasn't her. IT WASN'T HER! "Are you killing yourself?" Heh. I wish. "I'm more embracing the win-win of risking my life." I took a deep breath in. I flew through the rift. The colors swirled and meshed. Changing every second. I couldn't even pin one color. This was no time to admire it. I had to remember what I was here for. "C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!" It fucking spoke again "Baby? Something to keep in mind…if you were pulled home by whatever happened, it's likely our target was as well." Fuck. It had a point. "It's also likely that he's having as much trouble leaving as you are. I wiped off the spittle from my bottom lip with my hand "He's trapped…"

Finally, finally! I heard Summer's voice "Grandpa?" I saw the coordinates. "Oh fuck yes!" I was able to detect Morty thanks to the tracking chip I had in his spine. Summer continued "Grand-" Her voice cut out "Grandpa!" I praised "Summer! Gold star! Always believed in you! Now the hard part." Summer spoke "Hard part?" I instructed "Way worse things than me can see that becaon too, hunker down and protect it while I grab Morty. Rick out. Try to survive!"

I crashed down, I should be in Morty's dimension, hopefully he's close by. I barely got out of my spaceship before I saw him. "Morty!" He ran to me with his arms outstretched like a fucking idiot. "Rick!" I kneeled down to his eyelevel, he was so fucking short. I held onto to his shoulder and he continued to speak "I knew it! I knew you wouldn't leave me!" I plucked out a strand of his hair "Ow!" I held back a wince, maybeeee I should've explained why I pulled it out beforehand, oh well, too late now. Not the weirdest thing I've done for sure. "What the fuck?" I couldn't be bothered to explain, not right now. I should be able to use his DNA to track Prime. "Morty, did you see another Rick here? Non-descript haircut, sci-fi jacket…eh, of course you didn't see him you'd be dead…" Another idea popped into my head "Or you'd be a bomb! Do you feel bomb-y?" I waited, he seemed fine. Thank god. "Nah, you probably would've blown up by now." Morty spoke "W-wasn't the Rick here dead? That's why you picked places, right?" Classic Morty, incapable of seeing the bigger picture "O- uhh your Rick uh…not dead…more like…not around, when I met you I was sorta hoping he might turn up one day." FUCK YEAH! I was finally able to track Prime! "You son of a bitch! I got you!" I ran into the spaceship, and Morty, like the dutiful partner he was, followed after me. "Wh-Where where are we going?" I answered in a matter-of-faculty manner "To kill your grandpa, little buddy." "Wait, what?" I sighed and explained "Your original Rick was Rick Prime, the Rick that killed my family, I came to this dimenson because I was hoping he'd come back one day, y'know, before it got corenberged, he was pulled back here, and now I can track him." I explained on the fly there. Morty blinked "I don't understand…my original Rick killed your family? And you were just waiting for him to come back?" Gee, thanks captain obvious. It's not like that's what I just said. "Seems like you understand fine, Morty. That was A+ retyping."

The spaceship serched to a stop "We're here." Morty couldn't see the building, so he assumed we were just in the vacuum of space. I opened up the spaceship and he covered his mouth, as if that would help, idiot. It wouldn't matter either way, I modified his body to be able to breath in space for a reason. "This guy Morty, he hates being found but loves building elaborate shit." I decided to put it in a way he'd understand "Like-like playing a bunch of Minecraft but on a private server." Morty uncovered his mouth "Am I in a fucking K-hole right now, what's going on!?" I threw something that would make the building visable.

I saw Prime's fucking face. I heard his annoying ass voice and laugh. "Woahhh ho-ho you found me!" I shot the moniter. It just reappeared in a different spot "Yeah, I'd shoot the first monitor too, listen I'm not here…or am I?" A tube appeared, Prime was in there. I wanted so badly to shoot it, but the glass was probably bullet-proof. "There's the clone you found!" Fuck. "Or maybe it's me all naked…" My eyes perked "Just a lil' Kysher Soscye. I mean, why would I admit it's not?" It started dancing "Ohhh look at him go, look at him dancing! O-or me! Again it might be me, but like a Saw thing! I'm veryyy sneaky, he's a bunch of killbots to deal with while you wrestle with that. Fuck.

I instinctively jumped to shield Morty, a blue shield surrounded us and the spaceship. Morty went in the spaceship while I shot the killbots. "Obviously I don't know who I'm talking to here, it's all prerecorded" I shot the mointer again, but it just reappeared, of course, what was I thinking? "Buttt if you got this far you probably think you're real special, tell ya what." The tube disapeared. FUCK! Why can't things just go right for once?! "Oo there he goes! Maybe that actually was me!" I got laser whips from my arms thanks to my implants, Prime contined "And if you follow him down there we can have a big fight! 50% chance I'm not lying!"

I heard Space Beth's voice, her voice occasionally getting cut out due to the static "We're in troubl- asshole! I shouldn- have to beg!" Morty whined "Rick, my moms are in trouble!" Ugh, what a planetary mindset." Those versions of them are." I reminded him. Morty continued with his squeaky voice "We gotta save them!" He flew the spaceship up slightly "Rick, this is an obvious trap!" I held back a scoff, as if he knew anything about traps. "If you go down there, he's just going to kill you!" I spoke without thinking "Good!" Morty blinked "What?"

He flew the spaceship down and started walking toward where the tube dropped. "Now what?" Morty replied "If you don't care if you die, why do you care if I die?" This little turd. He tried going down, but I pulled him back by his shirt "Knock it off! Get outta here! You did this last season! You're like a suicide bomber!" Morty replied "Takes one to know one!" Sharp tongue, must've got it from his grandpa. "Yeah? Well you get it from him, not me!"

Morty gestured over to him "I don't know him." He looked at me with those big doe eyes, how the fuck he could look at me with such trust, I have no clue. "You're my grandpa Rick." What? I felt my expression soften without my permission. This fucking kid…what did he think he was saying? There was no way he knew what he was saying or else he's just even fucking stupider than I thought, and that's saying something. I'm a fucking asshole to him, I know that! I insult him on the daily! I'm the worst fucking kind of person! A grandpa is someone who's supposed to be fucking decent, not some kind of fucked up manipulative person who's irrationally attached to you! So how the hell…his voice, which seemed a lot less annoying now, broke through my haze "Rick and Morty, 100 years." Jesus fucking Chirst. This kid was too pure for this world. He deserved a better grandpa.

Prime's voice, which was a lot more annoying, brokes my train of thought "This place totalllyyy might blow up by the way! Here'sssss a buncha countdowns!" A bunch of numbers appeared "One of them is probably accurate…"

Morty's eyebrows furrowed, I couldn't take him seriously when he was angry, he made this little face! "Well, I'm leaving!" He went in the spaceship. Well fuck, what kind of grandpa would I be if I let him save them on his own? I went in the driver's seat "If you're going to do it at least do it right!" I chastised. Morty smiled "You'll help me save my moms!?" I scoffed "Whatever." I felt something wrap around me. I tensed up and saw Morty hugging me "Thanks Rick." I scoffed "It's nothing, okay?" He let me go and I flew over to help Space Beth.

started playing a minecraft pokémon mod with friends and i CANNOT recommend it highly enough. Cobblemon is still early in development and lacks key features (trading, nicknames, 90% of the dex) but has some big QoL things i’m a massive fan of

some of the things that makes cobblemon feel good to interact with:

- all starters start at level 10, putting you at a pretty even playing field w wild pokemon

- a PC is 4 iron ingots and 2 glass. a healer is 5 iron and 2 copper. it’s SO easy to get your initial set up going if you want to get right into pokemon training

- basic pokeballs are 4 apricorns and a copper ingot. no other steps. there’s recoloured versions of the normal pokeball to allow for you to use blue/green/pink/yellow apricorns if that’s all you have (or you like those colors)

- ALL held items are craftable. most evolution items are craftable. some are locked to late game (EXP share requires chorus fruit) but you don’t have to rely on RNG for most things

- you can change movesets from the menu at anytime

- if you’re at a bad camera angle during battle, you can move around (or do things like open chests and mine!!) extension of this means running away means sprinting away not just clicking a button (pokeballs are also thrown manually)

- the models are just GOOD. they’re all blocky and chunky and feel like they belong in minecraft. slugma looks more like slugma than the 3D game models

- the more completed pokémon have SLEEPING animations that play when they’re asleep during battle or when they get sleepy outside of battle (the zubat line sleeps face down. we thought they were dead at first)

- in addition to the above some pokémon have custom fainting animations and they’re so good (kakuna slowly tipping over, haunter flying straight up into the air before dissipating, etc)

tl;dr if you like pokémon and minecraft, try to give cobblemon a shot. i’ve been playing the last few days with a group of friends and we’re all deeply enamoured

...definitely didn't steal this phone off of someone- though it's a lot different to the phones I'm used to.

I have six pokemon-

Ferris- Feraligatr, I initially... "acquired" him from Professor Elm's lab as a...kind of test from my parents. He's a softie despite his looks. loves to battle.

Timor- Haunter, like most of his species line he's a prankster, can also be very mean spirited to people who aren't me- though i don't escape his ire sometimes too. Approach with caution.

Magnus- Magnemite, A bit.. spacey? but a cuddlebug.

Harper- Golbat, I acquired him as a zubat, and he's kind of an asshole- but really enjoys scritches between his wings.

Pretzel- Sneasel, my newest acquisition before I...well. Anyways. Also an asshole, but comes by it honestly i think.

Beans- Gible, acquired in a cave in Sinnoh- I'd say something about them here but.. we really only just met a few days ago as of writing this. I don't even have a pokeball for them yet but she's pretty determined to stick around me.

...If you want to know what's going on with me then just ask. It's a lot to explain but long story short I owe my life to a Shieldon named Aegis...

Figured it would do a lot of good to have the Silver connected to Aegis and Drifter have a blog. As such, he's connected to that lore timeline.

He died 24 years ago at Goldenrod tower- and was reborn as a failed version of Mewtwo in the wreckage of Cinnabar Island. Because he had no clue how to get out, or where even to go, he ended up staying there with the dittos that had survived in the underground portion of the Pokemon Mansion lab after Cinnabar's eruption. Fast forward twenty four years, and Ariana and Drifter crack open what's left of the Pokemon Mansion and find the ditto tribe located there. Silver, some part of him that hadn't quite eroded into just being "ditto" recognized his family, and so he hitched a ride home with them, and retook the form of Mew after some time. Only to be able to fully reclaim his form as "Silver" with the semi-unwilling aid of Aegis after tricking the remaining Rocket Executives into building a machine to allow him to do so.

And now he's back! He still has the Mew Powers, since technically the "Silver" form is just one he's holding with transformation abilities. Which I guess makes him a technical eeby deeby? Idk. He's weird. Anyways feel free to pester him :]

My top 10 favourite Pokémon

It’s really easy to get attached to something you have nostalgia for. You’ll get to lush and reminiscence about things you hold dear, memories you’ve made, people you connected with. It’s also really easy to detach from those things, and that’s why my favourite Pokémon is Garbodor. This is not a pop music review, this is my side gig. I’m cactus and today I’m explaining my 10 favourite Pokémon.

My top 10 favourite Pokémon of all time

Now I want to bring something up that relates to that introduction: a lot of my favourite Pokémon are ones I’ve never used in a playthrough. There’s a lot more to the Pokémon experience - the anime, the card game, the manga, but also just the culture, especially online, surrounding it. These Pokémon are on this list for many reasons, from aesthetic to nostalgic, and I’ve wanted to make this list for a long time so things have changed since, sometimes based on playthroughs, sometimes not. Also some disclaimers: this is not the most solid list of all time, in that my top seven is set in stone but the rest could change wildly and the order is not very rigid. Additionally, the positions I’m using cover whoever I want it to: sometimes it’ll be one Pokémon, an entire evolutionary line, only certain members of a line, or in some cases, pretty much a specific version of that Pokémon I played through a game with. It’s also not a balanced or sensible list, based largely on instinct, and because of that, I do feel like I need to list some honourable mentions.

Honourable Mentions

I don’t need to explain or analyse any of my picks outside of my top 10… though you know I would. Therefore, this is just going to be a simple list of Pokémon that just barely missed the cut - try and see if you can see any trends? I really don’t know if you could, I don’t make much sense. Anyway, narrowly missing out in no particular order are Shuckle, Haunter, Marill, Relicanth, Swalot, Wailord, Magcargo, Cubchoo and Beartic, Litwick and Chandelure, Sableye, Feraligatr, Genesect, Spiritomb, Squirtle, Carnivine, Palossand, Cofagrigus, Rayquaza, Cryogonal, Arbok, Snorlax, Tyranitar, Venusaur, Pelipper, Rowlet and Decidueye, Alolan Exeggutor, Tropius, Darkrai, Wobbuffett, Shedinja, Phantump, Gliscor, Victreebel, Drifloon and Drifblim, Turtwig and Torterra, Ferrothorn, Obstagoon, Ludicolo, Carracosta, Tsaraeena (would), Mismagius, Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales, Guzzlord but basically all those ugly Ultra Beasts, Staraptor, Slowking, Zygarde, Scizor, Magneton, Octillery, Greninja (yes, because of Smash), Gardevoir and Gallade, Oshawott, Snover and Abomasnow, Probopass - I’m not joking, and finally, in terms of the Pokémon who were literally in my top 10 but got kicked out as I was writing this: Bronzong, Sandile and Rotom, who got the boot mostly because I was unsure if it counted as a Legendary and I didn’t want any Legendaries on the list. My deepest, sincerest apologies to those three species, they could be in this list proper on another day. Also, assume that all members of an evolutionary line I discuss from #10 to #1 are also honourable mentions if not basically on the list.

Now I don’t think I’ll be able to write as much about these Pokémon as I write about songs: I’m a music reviewer, not a video game reviewer and I simply don’t know enough about the game lore or art and design rules to evaluate these guys beyond vibes and my personal experience. This is a dumb, out-of-specialty list, just bear with me on these. In addition, I’ll attach my favourite Pokédex entry and TCG art piece with each entry in the list just to spice it up a little, and I also have visual accompaniment from my good friend Yvonne @sheenzys for a few of the top entries - thank you very much indeed to her for agreeing to lend their talents to this little side project. Additional special thanks to the fantastic archives and databases of Serebii and Bulbapedia for helping with all this, and of course the programmers, designers, artists and writers at Game Freak, Nintendo and the Pokémon Company for making the games and designing these characters I love.

#10 - CLODSIRE

“It lives at the bottom of ponds and swamps. It will carry Wooper on its back and ferry them across water from one shore to the other.”

Clodsire is a Poison/Ground-type Pokémon from Paldea and yes, this list is affected ever so slightly by recency bias because I just started playing through Scarlet and this guy is already my absolute favourite on my team. It’s an adorable, unbothered little fish that just lies flat on the ground and takes up a tad too much space but you don’t mind because it’s adorable doing it. I always loved Wooper and Quagsire too, specifically their Johto versions, because of how peaceful and empty their minds always appeared to me, they’re just little guys, but they don’t stand out as much when water-blue as when they’re poisonous little desert creatures. I think you’ll find on this list that I tend to like Pokémon that cut a fine line between adorable and just downright ugly, and with Clodsire’s awkward retracting toxic spikes, derpy face and the fact that during the first Team Star raid against the fire-type gang, he just sat there and stalled this woman’s massive car, which I’m told is a Pokémon but to me, that just looked like a fancy car. I don’t know whether in a year Clodsire will be off this list entirely or within the top five but for now, I like him here, and I think he’d be okay with that.

#9 - EMPOLEON

“It avoids unnecessary disputes, but it will decimate anything that threatens its pride.”

Empoleon is a Water/Steel-type Pokémon from Sinnoh - that’s a unique typing too - and the final evolution to Piplup and Prinplup. This is mostly a nostalgia pick: Sinnoh’s my favourite region, and Piplup was my starter when I first played Pearl. That cute little penguin who couldn’t hurt a fly (canonically it can, does and will hurt flies - sorry, Ninjask) eventually turns into this noble knight of esteem and order, and listen, I’m not particularly masculine of a person but I still want to be him. My Empoleon was over-levelled to shit the entire game but I loved him all the same because I rarely ever needed a second member of my party to step up to the plate, and even outside of just looking cool, many formative Pokémemories were made with this line and they’ve stuck with me since. Also, come on, just look at him. Dawn’s Piplup in the anime is adorable too. Next up, we have another uniquely-typed early-game Water-type Pokémon from Sinnoh…

#8 - BIBAREL

“A river dammed by Bibarel will never overflow its banks, which is appreciated by people nearby.”

Bibarel is a Normal/Water-type Pokémon from Sinnoh and come on, just look at this dumbass beaver. I had a Bibarel, I used it for HMs like any good Gen IV player should… but it’s on this list purely because look at this dumbass beaver. It’s got the buck-tooth, it never looks quite right in any pose it takes, but it’s loving life and it’ll learn all these HMs and do whatever you want it to do. It’s a loyal dumbass beaver, a loveable companion there primarily for comic relief but I mean, you love it just the same. I know people parade around Bidoof as a meme God like Omastar but its evolution is my favourite in the line. He’s silly, he’s goofy, but he’s got a kind heart and I feel like he’s a family man. He works a blue-collar job building dams but he provides for his family and he loves his wife dearly. Also his wife is a Roselia, normalise inter-species breeding… in video games, not anywhere else (they cannot breed, they do not share an egg group). The little goof even got an ability banned in competitive play for a while due to people abusing his unpredictable hidden ability, and then people ended up using Bidoof instead using the same methods. Keep it stupid, Bibarel. We love you for it.

#7 - DITTO

“Ditto rearranges its cell structure to transform itself into other shapes. However, if it tries to transform itself into something by relying on its memory, this Pokémon manages to get details wrong.”

I mean…Ditto is a Normal-type Pokémon from Kanto but really, it’s anything. It can be anything but it doesn’t retain its HP or level, and in the anime, everything Ditto copies has that dumb little head-empty smirk on its face. There’s something resonant to me that this Pokémon can replicate everything, down to less surface-level occasions like stat boosts and EV yields but it can never fully be a perfect replica due to Ditto’s own “shortcomings”, not that those shortcomings matter when you can be absolutely anything you want. I don’t know, I know they often play the angle that this was a failed science experiment, and the lore with Mew can be compelling, but I think it just speaks to humans and how it’s in our nature to implement parts of other people into ourselves but we can’t escape from our real identity that is much deeper than just appearance, type and even stat modifiers. Yes, that’s right, I like this stupid pink blob for philosophical reasons. Zoroark sucks, by the way.

#6 - SYLVEON

“Its ribbonlike feelers give off an aura that weakens hostility in its prey, causing them to let down their guard. Then it attacks.”

Sylveon is a Fairy-type Pokémon from Kalos and you just know an Eeveelution had to be on here. Now like most Pokémon fans, I love all forms of Eevee but if I had to rank them… Sylveon’s on top, then it’s Leafeon, Vaporeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon, Jolteon and Flareon. This is the objectively correct best-to-worst ranking of the ‘lutions and I will hear nothing to the contrary. So why’s Sylveon making the list? Well, Glaceon was close, but ultimately, Sylveon is just a girly fashionista with way too many ribbons and tassels and that’s why I love her. She’s a hyper-feminine dragon-slayer coated in pastel colours that dazzles and sparkles but still packs a decent punch against some of the strongest Pokémon in the game. This is basically just me putting “women” at #6 instead of Sylveon, but I did use Sylveon in Ultra Moon and it was the Pokémon I attached closest to. Why? I don’t know, it’s girly, sometimes I want to be a teenage girl with Backstreet Boys posters on my wall and the pink “Ulterior Motives” boombox. Is that too much to ask?

#5 - CYNDAQUIL AND TYPHLOSION

“When heat from its body causes the air around it to shimmer, this is a sign that it is ready to battle.” (Typhlosion)

Alright, so here’s where it gets a bit confusing: I couldn’t pick between the Fire-type starter of Johto and its final evolution so both are here. I prefer Cyndaquil a tiny bit but mostly because I have had a plush of Cyndaquil since I was a child that’s not really the same material as other plushes, it feels a bit firmer and more special in that regard. This is also a very personal one - whilst I personally picked Totodile in SoulSilver, my sister, who I often bonded with over Pokémon, has always been a big fan of Typhlosion and I remember battling and trading over that Pokémon God knows how many times, it might still be in my box in Pearl. Johto has some of the most consistently fun designs to me - I love Cyndaquil’s perpetually closed eyes and little anteater snout, and Typhlosion’s mane of fire running down its back when it’s fighting is just badass, especially in the sprite era, which by the way, has an aura that can never be replicated with 3D models and hurts the games tremendously. This hit Typhlosion pretty hard as he now looks kind of inert in resting form, but it’s not like you can’t go back to those old games and see him in his pixellated glory. I really don’t care for its Hisuian form though, probably knocks it down a couple points to be honest.

#4 - GOODRA

“Sometimes it misunderstands instructions and appears dazed or bewildered. Many Trainers don't mind, finding this behaviour to be adorable.”

Okay, so… I like slimy Pokémon. If there’s any coherent theme other than ignoring Galar entirely, it’s that I like blobs and goops. Goomy is the cutest slime in the game, and I love its grey cheeks, the lavender colour scheme and seeing it open its little mouth. Sliggoo is fine, it’s still cute but Goodra… I just want to hug it so badly. I never used a Goodra ever, but this Dragon-type Pokémon from Kalos won my heart anyway through its bubbly design, chubby belly and just generally peaceful vibe, one curated out of formless goo into a beautiful little psuedo-legendary dragon. I like how it’s pure Dragon type despite it just being goop, I like how its Hisuian form looks like it’s carrying something slightly too heavy for it to handle in its tail and whilst I was too old to be watching the anime religiously, whenever I saw clips of Ash’s Goodra I grew fond of that too, especially the honestly kind of touching arc of him having to release it. The anime does very few things all that well and that was one of them, at least to me, so, yeah, Goodra makes the list. Goomy in spirit also.

#3 - GRIMER AND MUK

“Muk's colouration becomes increasingly vivid the more it feasts on its favourite dish - trash.” (Alolan Muk)

Yes, all four versions of this line’s species are making the list. Grimer and Muk are Poison-type Pokémon from Kanto with regional counterparts in Alola that gain the Dark-type and again, what did I say about slime? I love how you can find Grimer in the ponds of Celadon City because it’s so polluted and whilst I doubt they’re making a statement with any of this and more just an observation, it’s really interesting to see something so inhuman as a formless blob of slime as a way of representing the very human act and consequence of pollution, and I love how Grimer is just a silly little nuisance but once it evolves, it essentially just gets bigger and meaner instead of any meaningful developments. Muk is a downright villainous blob of slime, and his Alolan form makes him an even more charming antagonist with the genius idea of colouring him like graffiti. It’s almost like a tie-dye blob of toxic goop, I love it. I had a Muk when I played Ultra Moon and even though it was disgusting, rubbing that little vile sludge with my 3DS stylus always felt so satisfying. That… that’s gross, cactus, let’s move onto the next one.

#2 - PORYGON-Z

“Some say an additional program made this Pokémon evolve, but even academics can't agree on whether Porygon-Z is really an evolution.”

This is basically a spot that represents the entire Porygon line but Porygon-Z is ultimately my favourite due to its design. I find it fascinating that this artificial, obscure Pokémon - a Normal-type from Kanto that got evolutions in Johto and Sinnoh - keeps popping up and having upgrades, or malfunctions, but is basically banished in both the regions it appears in, where it is incredibly rare or relegated to trading or… gambling, and real life due to the “Cyber Soldier Porygon” controversy. You have a line that could hypothetically be fully-evolved at level one but it’s also unwise to really call Porygon-Z a final evolution: it’s actually just a broken Porygon2, which in itself is an almost cynical attempt to recreate the blocky cyber duck in a sleeker, Y2K form. It doesn’t know or comprehend love in the same way that damn near every other Pokémon can: it almost feels wrong to have it outside of a PC box. Those making the anime seem to want to avoid it like the plague despite the fact that it was really Pikachu who caused the flashing lights and really, the episode had a positive impact on epileptic seizure prevention in exported anime anyway. By all means, Porygon is a bit of an unsung hero, with the blame deflected onto it because it was a scapegoat, and its “evolutions” are barely different in size or stats, they evolve not through experience but through humans trading it with other humans, to the point where both of its evolutions actually weigh less than the original. It’s fascinating to me that this unnatural and unloved Pokémon seems to carry the same reputation in the real world as it does in the games. Why do I like Porygon-Z the most? Well, it’s from my favourite generation, I had one in Pearl, and it has some of the saddest entries in the entire Pokédex, constantly referring it to it being an unstable, out-casted failure. There are very few Pokémon, if any others, that are created purely to be as charmless as this one. Except maybe…

I never used this Pokémon for more than 10 minutes - I caught one on a whim when playing White, briefly evolved it much later. I don’t own any merchandise about it, I don’t really care for its pre-evolution, I haven’t seen an episode of the anime with it in. So why is it my favourite Pokémon? …I genuinely don’t know.

#1 - GARBODOR

“For a time, their numbers increased explosively in Alola. Since the arrival of Grimer, their population has decreased dramatically.”

When there’s thousands of these little things to choose from, I think my mind immediately wants to go to the obscure, rejected and unloved, but I can’t say that really applies fully to the Unova Poison-type Garbodor. There’s plenty of Trubbish merch I’ve seen around, nearly every Gen V Pokémon got some love at least briefly in the anime, manga and events because of how they basically did a summary execution of everything that wasn’t Unova for a while, and it even got a Gigantamax form in that game no-one likes. For a couple of years now, it’s been my favourite Pokémon, it’s been my profile picture on several websites, it’s what I have identified myself with. It’s not as classic as Grimer and Muk, which it was unfairly and pejoratively compared to back in 2010. It’s not the Pokémon I have the most nostalgia for - that’s probably Cyndaquil or really, Pikachu - it’s not my favourite design, that’s far-and-beyond Porygon-Z. It’s the sworn enemy of my #3 pick according to Alolan Pokédex entries. Sadly, I can’t really put it into words other than… there’s just something about Garbodor. The pink and blue remnants of plastic in its otherwise indistinguishable splodge of brown, the ripped-up bin bag masquerading as a face that makes it look like it wants to be freed from prison, cardboard keeping its arms together, floofs of garbage that acts as impromptu ears, all a product of its surroundings. I guess, at my worst, I feel like Garbodor? I don’t know if I want to treat it that personally. I love the design, Trubbish is cute enough, and I think its entries make it fit well within the lore of its region. It’s deathly, but it doesn’t look like it wants to be. I don’t know, maybe above all, it’s just… consistent? Porygon-Z should probably be here but I’ve drawn too many MS Paint sketches of Garbodor, saved too many anime images of it making a funny face, just thought about it too much, for me not to put Garbodor at #1. The Unova games aren’t even my favourite generation, Poison - despite it appearing thrice on this list - is not my favourite type - thinking about it, I always say it’s Ghost but it’s probably Normal. I just really like this heap of garbage. What can I say?

4 some reason I started thinking about my pkmn au and katakuri’s team I made for him, and realizing that piers is a character that exists and then walking back to totally revise kat’s team 😭 piers even stole kat’s entire color scheme too.

I think I am much happier with the revised version now!! i have the urge to get all my charlotte family!pokemon thoughts out so the rest will be under the cut 😇

Idk much about Pokémon meta so idk if giving him a tyranitar is too much for a gym leader, but I thought it was fitting since kat is like a pseudo legendary himself- not really a villain but still the boss fight of wci 😭

Starting with Perospero! In this AU, I imagine that when he was younger, Perospero was a contest master, then taking over the role as leader at the family gym when big mom leaves (either retired or became an elite four member🤔). After many years as leader, Perospero finally retires to go back to contests as a judge. Retiring from the gym, he dumps it on Katakuri to take over.

Katakuri doesn't really want the responsibility of being gym leader, but pressure from his family and the high expectations put on him makes him accept. Katakuri is a strong trainer though, all his siblings think he is the best and believe he would make the perfect gym leader, so he doesn't want to disappoint them. The gym converts from a normal type gym to a dark type gym, but Kat doesn't bother redecorating the gym from Perospero's tea time theme, just paints over it with his own signature colors ahdfdhkgfadkfjhkgjlgfh.

I have thoughts about Brulee too!! Moreso if she was an actual game NPC and what role she would have :^3c She lives a bit separated from everyone else, a cottage near the woods outside of town. She gets called a witch by local children and puts up an unpleasant front🥺 But if you befriend her, she will let you battle her despite her believing that she isn't any good at it. She would operate similarly to the battle cafes in SWSH, always being a double battle and awarding you random but valuable goodies if you win. But the twist being that she pulls two random pokemon from her team of six for every battle, so sometimes it could be a very easy battle, sometimes pretty difficult! Just to keep the player on their toes :^)

And some thoughts about the pokemon selection!!!

I started out with lickilicky with perospero, and just created a team of what I thought was fitting- which turned out to be a lot of normal types!! I had haunter on his roster for a long time, but then I though to just commit to the normal typing.

(EDIT: I was about to go to bed when I decided to replaced kecleon with indeedee! Honestly I might keep pivoting between these two, but indeedee fits with the tea time theme for peros’ gym :^))

The shellos came from perospero making the candy sea slugs,, I imagine him treating them like little purse dogs,, his special slimy babies,,😭 🥺 And the ducklett was inspired by a twitter post! Came wandering into his house one day and would not leave,, a little marspero goodie for me,,

Before committing to dark type for Kat, it was half dark and half fairy!! But now the fairy types are just his lil buddies along side his gym team,, they watch his gym battles🥺

(EDIT: I’m crying, kat can be easily swept by fighting types 😭 I might go back to the drawing board and switch someone out! even though I really liked what I picked 😔) I think kat would combat the weakness by having absol and sneasel use psychic type moves.

I also do think kat would get a weavile and a kingambit, but I’m not sure when !

Snubbull is the pokemon that he has had the longest. As children, perospero found snubbull, gifting it to Kat and insisting that they looked alike. Baby kat denied this heavily at first, but eventually Kat and snubbull became the closest of friends. Ever since Kat became gym leader, snubbull has the dream of fighting in a gym battle with him 🥺

Brulee didn't really catch her team in the traditional sense! They just kind of gravitated towards her over the years. She has known her rapidash and morgrem since she was a little girl, back when they were just a ponyta and impidimp. When impidimp was wild, he used to tease and play tricks on her, when one day he spotted her in the woods crying, the day after she was attacked and got her face slashed open 🥺 that's when the wild ponyta appeared to comfort her 🥺 And instead of teasing like normal, impidimp ran over to comfort her too!!

•Pascu has a habit of climbing on my shoulders since I met him, at first it wasn't a problem, but when he evolved he had this habit and sometimes he crushes me under his crocodile weight.

•Gochu is the most refined of the group and always demands that I bathe him every time we have a picnic because he HATES dirt.

• Do you know that haunter that you can exchange for a pichurin in Levencia city? Well that's Umbra! (I just found out that in the English version it has a different name) She has a little abandonment trauma because her old coach didn't like her very much and she didn't think twice before exchanging her, luckily now she has a new family who he loves her just the way she is.

• I almost brought the gimmighouls of Paldea to extinction to make Midas evolve, but it was worth it to see them so happy with his new form, them of course were also more than grateful.

•Chomper is the most competitive of the group and usually comes out of his pokeball to fight, but that doesn't mean he's a bad guy, he's very protective of the team and quite affectionate (although he doesn't like to admit it).

•Since I captured Dientes I've always had to look for a lake every time I had a picnic so she could swim peacefully. She is also the most aggressive of the group and will bite anything that comes her way.

•Cuelebre is incredibly hyperactive, it was very difficult to ride him at first since he went where he wanted, he also wouldn't stop eating sandwiches when he wasn't looking, but it was impossible not to love him.

Wyvernz’ Munday Shiny Showcase #1

Heyo. Wyvernz here. I decided to do something fun every munday and that’s showcase my shiny hunting catches throughout every week. I’ve been going pretty hard on the shiny hunting this time around and I figured it’d be fun to show off to ya’ll what I catch through the week. So here’s a summary of what I have caught throughout my time playing Scarlet:

#1: Flamigo

This is the first shiny I caught in the game and it had to be the stupid flamingo... XD

This was a random encounter shiny I found a little while after I beat the game’s story and entered the main game. At that point, I was nowhere near completing the dex(and I wasn’t actively trying to at that time) so that means I found this with the base encounter rate of 1/4096. I’m not a big fan this pokemon and it’s shiny version isn’t much better, being a just different shade shiny, BUT the shade of pink is way more noticeable than most different shade shinies so I do appreciate that

Fun fact: This is the first pokemon I gave a nickname to in this game

#2: Dunsparce -> Dudunsparce

I caught this one during my journey to finish the pokedex when I decided to get around to it. When i was going around catching the past paradoxes, I encountered it in the lower crystal cave region of area zero. Unfortunately, it did not evolve into a three segment, but hey a shiny is a shiny.

#3: Gastly->Haunter->Gengar

This is the second shiny I caught during my journey to complete the pokedex. I found this one in the desert area near cascarrafa. The shiny of the gastly line is unfortunately a different shade shiny. I think only the tongue is really different? Oh well, eventually I’m gonna build up this gengar into the usual special attacker.

#4: Slither Wing This is the first shiny I actively hunted for once I completed the pokedex and got the shiny charm. Slither Wing is probably my fav of the past paradoxes so naturely I really wanted the shiny version. So I looked up shiny hunting methods for Scarlet and Violet and sandwich recipes to get the meal powers I needed. After a good 2 hours or so(and resetting so I don’t burn up precious herba mystica), I found one! Named them Goldiwings since they got goldish wings :3 This slither wing is a max attack and sp. defense set. Might make some changes to the set tho

#5: Smoliv->Dolliv->Arboliva

The next one I shiny hunted was Smoliv. There were no outbreaks at the time I decided to shiny hunt it so i did it the other way and wondered around waiting for to spawn. However, after I got my meal powers and packed up the picnic, I FIND THE DAMN THING NOT EVEN 15 SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE HUNT. Literally spent the rest of the time trying to see if I could find another one(didn’t unfortunately) This one is being built as a bulky sp. attacker with harvest as it’s ability and a lum berry. Really useful in raids with pokemon that spam status moves like Thunder Wave and such.

#6: iron Bundle

Iron Bundle is my fav future paradox and I knew I had to have it shiny, BUT I play on scarlet so I had to get a friend to help me with this. After we finally figured out how to make a sandwich together, we got the necessary meal powers for water types to spawn, but for some reason iron bundle wasn’t spawning too often? It might have been issues with connection, but i dunno. Eventually a shiny did spawn and I caught it with a crit capture quick ball. Also it spawned right next to me after I killed a normal one and it was sleeping. Never woke up and even battled it when it was sleeping XD Also shout out to anyone who gets the reference

#7: Flutter Mane

I wanted to hunt another paradox shiny and I heard flutter mane is really good for certain 7 star event raids so I decided to go after that one. My first attempt was unsuccessful and for some reason they just stopped spawning? It even persisted after resetting too. Eventually I got them to start spawning and got one to spawn. The recipe I used also had title power lv3 for ghost so I ended up with a title on them too! Also yes I named it piss ghost. It’s just a stupid joke name that I’ll probably change eventually lol

#8: Skiddo

This is my most recent shiny acquisition. This is a random encounter shiny I found while trying to hatch a shiny cyndaquil. Found her in the arid rocky area where you fight the Titan Klawf. Not much else to add to this since it was a random encounter, but it is the first one since I got the shiny charm so that’s neat.

I think I’m gonna name her Basil but I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

Current list of shinies that I am either in the process of hunting/hatching or plan to go after in the future: Cyndaquil(currently as mentioned before) The other starters that are available(I still need Scorbunny and one other I think?) The rest of the paradoxes

Let Alex Mercer be the pettiest haunter.

While Luke and Reggie are blasting music and turning on showers to scare people, I think Alex goes a bit subtler. He lives(dies) to cause millions of minor inconveniences. Like taking the ink cartridges out of all of the pens(and I mean all of them). Or unplugging power chords just enough that it looks fine but won't actually charge stuff. Or the water pressure in the shower being really weak for no apparent reason.

When Alex full on haunts someone, he doesn't want them scared, he just wants them annoyed and miserable. So he just makes them have lousy days by messing up all their stuff.

My #1 post of 2022

Hey JatP gang. I know it's been a rough year, both with the show and in people's personal lives. I just wanted to hop on here and say that even if we all drift away to other fixations or hobbies or pieces of media, there will still be a huge piece of my heart here for all of you. In 2023 when Julie throws her cap in the air at her high school graduation, I love you. In 2024, when the band releases their first full album, I love you. In 2025 when Alex and Willie have a small wedding in the Molina garage, I love you. In 2026, when Edge of Great hits platinum, I love you. In 2027 when they start their first world tour, I love you. In 2028 when they win three Grammys, I love you.

And in 2032, when Alex chases Reggie all over their huge studio for saying that he'd be the one to leave in a blowup, I love you.

Pokémon game idea I got from Paper Mario.

Basically, it's Gen 2 but you follow the path of Silver's sibling. Silver leads his own gang just like his dad, and you fight this new team as well as Team Rocket. The story progresses kinda similarly to the original, but you fight said gangs alongside Ethan and Lyra at some points in the story. At the end of Part 1, Silver becomes Champion, and his gang starts making changes around Johto. After you beat him, you can visit Lance and battle him. (I can't decide if I want to properly level his underleveled Dragonite) You'd also be able to battle Ethan and Lyra. Once you beat the Kanto Gym Leaders, you'll unlock the ability to travel to the Battle Frontier. (Yes, I'd bring that back.) I'd also add surprise appearances of other Trainers to the experiences. Once you beat Red, he starts appearing too. I'd also bring back Megas and Z-Moves, as well as Linking Cords to evolve Pokémon like Haunter or Machoke. I'd also make it so that Trade Evo items can be used on Pokémon that evolve with those items alongside the traditional "give it the item, then give it to a friend" method. Also, I'd fix numerous Shiny Pokemon. Gengar would no longer be that watered-down purple. Online play would not only allow you to battle and trade with people, you'd also be able to care for their Pokémon. I'd also make it so that you can't just generate shiny and overpowered Pokémon. Hacked Pokémon will usually not be shiny, but the odds will be the same as normal. Pokémon with maxed EVs in all stats will not appear. I'd also put all existing Pokémon into the games. Shiny locking won't be a thing in these games. Every Pokémon is going to be able to be shiny hunted. I'd also add autosave points at important parts of the story/areas in the game. This would work alongside normal saving as well as regular autosaves. Mystery Gifts and Events will still happen, but they won't be one-time occurrences. They will instead happen on a seasonal basis with repetition. The Event Pokémon, as I said earlier, will be able to be shiny. Promotional Mystery Gift Pokémon will be locked to either their shiny or normal forms depending on the promo. Sorry, folks. The games will be called Pokémon Heated Carnelian and Pokémon Electrified Citrine. If you can't already tell, I'm not making new legendaries. I'm putting Entei and Raikou in the spotlight. I did lots of research to come up with the names, by the way. I had originally planned on making a companion for the name "Crimson Obsidian," but I couldn't come up with something for Raikou that wasn't already taken. Also, sorry for not coming up with paper Pokémon. Maybe something can be done with the Vellumentals, but I can't really come up with anything. Yes, the other game's beast will be available via the aforementioned events/mystery gifts. Yes, Gen 3 Trainers will come to the Battle Frontier. No, I'm not getting rid of version exclusivity. Pokémon breeding is still available, so you can get one of your pal's version exclusive Pokémon, and shiny hunt via the Nursery. As for passively leveling your Pokémon, there'd be a Pokémon workout facility (it can't be called a Gym because that's taken) where you can drop them off and let them gain EXP. Marts and Pokécenters will be merged, and the facility would be ran in one repurposed mart building per region. For Berry farming, there'd be a big plot of farmland a la Pokémon X and Y instead of little plots scattered around. You'd still have to find most of the Berries in order to farm them. Cross-pollination will also work the same as it did back then. You'd also be able to battle Pokémon who try to mess with your harvest. The encounter table is still a WIP. You'd be able to blend Berries into smoothies to give to Pokémon. This will have various effects on your Pokémon, and boost the encounter rate of certain types of wild Pokémon depending on the Berries used. The shiny odds will also be boosted. By the way, one smoothie can only be used once, so choose wisely. That's all for now.

So…it’s been over a year since I last played this Nuzlocke. A lot has happened since last August but you don’t need to know all that. Let’s just get back into Pokémon! An important note: Days 10-13 were written in late July to August 2nd and do not reference the sudden hiatus and the effects thereof.

Day 10

Today should be pretty good for me to sit down and work out some progress here in Kanto.

I’ve taken out the trainers outside the Rock Tunnel and healed at the Pokémon Center in Lavender Town. Zippy has finally learned Thunderbolt and we’ve gotten a few more levels in preparation for our next steps.

Lavender Town…the music always seems more mysterious and eerie in 8-bit versus the newer versions. If you haven’t heard this haunting tune, please look it up. It’s quite the creepy song.

But we’re not staying here long! We need to get a move on toward Celadon City where we can get the drink for the dumb gate guards into Saffron City and the Silph Scope which will allow us to see through the “disguises” that the Ghastly and Haunter in Pokémon Tower put on. This particular path will put us through Route 8, another Underground Path, and then Route 7. There’s plenty of trainers here on Route 8 as well as another encounter. But apparently Mike had other plans and evolved into Hypno just to make sure we know he will not be eclipsed by any newbie.

Route 8 Encounter—Kadabra/Al

Well that’s the Pokémon I was kinda hoping for but only for the reason that Kadabra is kinda cool and is an okay back-up for Mike. However, for the moment, Mike has the higher end BST as I won’t be able to evolve Al up to an Alakazam. Sorry, dude!

So Mike continues his reign as my mighty Psychic-type for the run. And how! Most of the trainers here have Poison-type Pokémon and thus are but playthings for Mike’s mighty Comfusion attack (and Headbutt finisher if necessary)! I should probably give PlowBoy some attention too as he can just as easily wipe these Poison-types out and definitely needs the EXP too. I also think there’s a trainer here with Electric-types so maybe I’ll send my little mole out against them too.

Yeah, that did really well, I’d say. Although PlowBoy is still not quite to evolving yet. Soon, soon. In the meantime, I’ve got this route cleared and I’m ready to head underground and over to Route 7 and Celadon City. I also checked with Zippy and apparently we are the best of friends now. If only that meant something gameplay wise like it does now. A well timed dodge or crit would be pretty handy.

Route 7 Encounter—Pidgey

Result—Whirlwind-ed away.

Well, that’s the way it goes sometimes. Not every encounter will result in a capture, especially when the game makes it tough. Fun fact I learned while reading up more fully on the many quirks of Generation 1 games—Whirlwind and Roar are both moves that send an opponent out of battle, either ending a wild encounter or forcing a random switch out instead, but here they only work in wild battles and thus have no real use for players in-game. This is especially true since there’s this handy option you get in every wild encounter: THE “RUN” OPTION!! So in Gen 1 these moves end up being an annoyance in wild battles and nothing more. This is all just to say I actually didn’t want another Pidgey. So to heck with ya’, ya’ little pathetic bird!

And now I reach the Pokémon Center in Celadon City. My next day of play will be focused on all those errands I mentioned earlier and bringing the fight directly into Team Rocket’s evil lair.

with the morning's procrastination behind her, she finally starts clicking and clacking, getting on with the day's addition to progress. She finally got on her real computer, and started to make progress in her project. Life was so much easier without that computer in the pocket, beckoning one to peep into other lives. to keep up with the style, the jokes, the jargon. life was a lot more ambivalent without tech gods contorting the internet to prey upon a consumer's narcissism. all in the pocket. am I sharing enough. am I projecting who I want to be, in the way that I want to be, enough. when will it ever be enough? only really for her to decide. she stays in bed, lapping up the winter sun streaming in, alone in her little apartment. as she perused social media -- a disagreement with a friend -- plans made with another -- acquaintances giving her story little hearts, little hits of dopamine, she is vindicated. she exists, projected out there into other little pockets - she reaffirms her existence. what splendor in instantaneous connection, hollow the touch may me. she gives off a little sigh and casts herself indoors. this is a haunting, she repeats to herself. she is haunting those phones, and to whose minds does she haunt? while she haunts her own apartment, today sullenly, thoughtfully, other's haunt her mind too. it was a chapter she wanted to close, that old relationship with Dominick. the most significant relationship of her life thus far, and nothing much really wrong therein, except an odd sense of stagnancy. Was I happy with him? sometimes yes, sometimes no. was I comfortable? absolutely. was I naive to just break up? potentially. I think yes, I was. am i happy now? no, not necessarily. was I happy then? i'm not sure that I was either. will I ever be happy? not sure, truely not sure. a haunter haunts. RoMay AU'S

Double post today I am bored and decided I wanted to. This post is about Roman AU's that either don't exist due to no ideas, AU's that I mention because I like them but don't post them or AU's in the process of being created.

SeraphimRoman- This was actually fanart I got, one of like the very early ones maybe even before HorrorBlasterRoman. Either way while SeraphimRoman was cool and neat it wouldn't make any logical sense. Granted TsumRoman did start by taking small pieces of souls XD. So it's not something that wouldn't happen but there was no ideas that I could get to work with her.

LittleRoman and LittleShadow- Granted this could easily work, I have thought about it and mentioned it to friends but actively starting it is tricky. I couldn't really think of ideas that could work. The best I can do is LittleShadow being trauma filled and not trusting of adults with LittleRoman as the innocent bean who just wants love and attention. But like overall ideas just never formed and it just seemed like a repeat only they are kids.

PortalRoman- Okay I tried starting this sadly just didn't work. There is a possibility I may return to it, I love unhinged Roman. But again it's ideas. I can't form much if any besides unhinged Roman just talking to the pink companion cube who she see's as Joyce. But like that's just kinda boring. Plus Portal is a pretty old game and like I can't come up with puzzles and stuff.

BittyRoman and BittyShadow- Much like the Little version, again it was just tricky to start it. Maybe I do better with not wholesome content XD. I am doing VERY well with PerfectKidRoman who I'm enjoying way too much. I guess I enjoy unhinged content XD.

PokemonAU- It does exist but I generally don't like to talk about it. It's a cute AU but I generally don't count it much. Still I do enjoy Roman being a Togetic, it fits so well and Shadow as Haunter is also perfect.

'Perfect' Roman/Roman3480- Now this is gonna be tricky to explain. It was an idea I came up with but it's so old my memory is kinda foggy. From what I remember Webdings never created Shadow and when the human soul was made, she wanted a 'perfect' daughter. Think of this like the Xtale timeline. Anyway that's why this Roman is also called Roman3480 because it took that many times. 'Perfect' Roman is cold and calculating, smart yet she's not cruel nor nice. She's just neutral. She doesn't get herself involved unless it actually involves her. This Roman also killed Webdings (YAY KARMA). She got out of the underground and kinda just chilled. She didn't make friends, she didn't talk to anyone. Just kinda lived her life. Kinda why there is like 0 content of her.

Romano Nuevo- This is a combo AU Novela and Dance. The only reason this doesn't exist is because I don't speak Spanish. I would TOTALLY do this otherwise. Romano Nuevo is just a sorta flirty Roman. She's Spanish and does the tango and she's just smooth. I love her but sadly I ain't gonna rely on Google Translate for like comics and stuff for her. She's pretty neat and she has been mentioned a little here and there.

BedAU- I don't have a proper name for this AU in making but this is basically Monster's IncxUndertale. Monsters are tied to a single child that is scared of them. However Roman is tied to Joyce, a child who finds the Joy in everything even in a scary looking monster. Shadow is tied to Neela, a child who already lives in a nightmare so the dark shadow that comes from under her bed is a relieving sight.

I am working on designs but it's very tricky. BedRoman is angry that Joyce isn't scared and generally sulks under the bed. Joyce knows sooner or later she will befriend this monster under her bed. She leaves BedRoman snacks and toys, she even makes sure under her bed is always clean for her friend. BedShadow however almost instantly bonds with Neela, he hears what her father does to her. Oh how he wished he could kill him. Afterall only HE should scare her, not this pathetic human. However he can't do a thing. Otherwise he would be destroyed by the other monsters. So BedShadow keeps Neela safe during the night, he sings calming songs, reads stories.

I am looking forward to the day I can reveal this AU with designs but for now it sits waiting under the bed.

Imposter- Yes it's based on Among Us. Roman and Shadow are Imposters, they fly a ship around and find other ships that are in distress. They board and pretend to be helpful crew members, here to 'fix' the ship. But everyone ends up getting hunted down and eaten. Sooner or later they board a ship and find Joyce and Neela who are children. Yes they are Imposters but they aren't murderers. At least not to children. So they take the kids to a port but learning that the two have no other family members and will most likely be separated, Roman and Shadow decide to take them in.

They hide that they are Imposters, the kids are always confused why they never see Roman and Shadow do tasks. The two admit that the kids are helpful. Imposters can't do tasks. Joyce and Neela do find out in the future but are strangely okay about it. Yes they wished their friends wouldn't kill but they know it's for survival, they need to eat. Afterall can you blame a lion hunting the antelope?

Hi

I got a burst of inspiration to finally draw my version of gastly and haunter, so have this, as a treat.

Gastly is a littol cat-type thing with an overabundance of ethereal fur, while haunter starts growing more normal fur but still has laughably tiny limbs, so they make hands with their ghost powers.

The one with the mega and the belly markings is my Gaspar, wanted to draw all his life stages; the gengar is a rework of the smoke variant I made ages ago to match the fur texture of gastly; and the ones at the bottom are the pre-evos of the stinker, the muk halfbreed, who I decided to draw bc they're furless and thus show off well the anatomy.
