𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐎 𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐒 𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐄!
𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐒𝐓𝐀!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: 𝐉𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑!𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐎 𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐒 𝐗 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
-> synopsis: it’s your first day at the psychiatric institution within Miami, assigned to the most notorious criminal Armando Aretas, you must navigate your professionalism and your evolving crush for the male. How far with the lines blur?
-> format: one-shot
-> theme: twisted love.
-> warning: themes of toxicity, mature language, themes of violence, Armando is a little rough, themes of manipulation.
-> authors note: sorry for being gone so long, i wanted a little break! i know this is not a request but i wanted to write a story with Armando based on the Joker and Harley Quinn. 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝!🌸
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Walking through the rusted, steel gate, the click and clacks of heels were heard echoing off of the concrete floor. Tapping her keycard amongst the galvanised aluminium door, a woman strolled through. Her nervousness filled up the air as the receptionist lazily glanced up at her. “What.”
“Oh! It’s my first day here, i’m supposed to be meeting up with the head of the institution Mr-“
“He’s not here.”
“He told me he would be here though-“
“Well he’s not, so leave.”
“Wait a second-“
A click was heard next to the two women as a buff guy walked through the door, signalling you to follow him, which you do with haste. Quickly collecting your things, you follow him through the door to which he leads you down a hallway, leaving the miserable old woman behind the desk.
“Don’t mind her, she can be a bit grouchy in the morning.” Your superior, Micheal Brown reassured you as he took you towards the staff room.
“It’s fine.. happens to everyone i guess.”
“Did you get here okay?”
“Yeah traffic wasn’t that bad-“
Cutting her off, screams could be heard throughout the institution as you heard metal banging and footsteps retreating. Forcing you to the left, a big group of officers came running down the hall with gas masks and shields as they approach a particular cell where the interference was occurring. A pale caucasian man was being whisked out of the cell, his arm falling limp as his soul seems to have left his body. His lips turned blue, the colour slowly seeping down his body. He was killed.
Another man seemingly walks out of the cell, his hands behind his back as a bunch of guards surround him. To your surprise, Micheal walks towards the guards to figure out the issue. You follow behind.
In the middle of all the bodies, a broad, built man stood coolly between them. His tan skin being lit slightly by the dim ceiling light that hung above him. A slight scar ripped through his eyebrow as he was shirtless. His muscles and toned abs popped out with his tattoos slowly trailing down his arm, forming a sleeve. Slowly putting his head up, he looked straight at you. His eyes low. His lips forming a slight smirk.
You recognise him to be Armando Aretas.
Slightly gasping, you look straight at him. Intimidated by his presence but unable to look away. He lightly chuckled at your reaction to which he got his neck grabbed by one of the guards, unhappy by his recent activities. “Fucking hell Aretas, don’t you ever want to get your shit in order?”
No response.
“Nothing to say? Cap let me sort him out-“
“That’s enough.” Micheal shouts, pushing past the swarm of guards who managed to contain Aretas. “Take him to the solitary unit.”
A myriad of huffs were heard throughout the group who manhandled Aretas, urging him to walk down the corridors.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Was that Armando Aretas?”
“The one and only. You’re his new therapist.”
Your jaw went slack in shock as you try to fathom all the consequences that could arise from this. Good or bad.
“Don’t worry, if you don’t want to do this then i can assign you with someone else-“
“I’ll do it.” Jumping at the offer as it can progress your career further if you manage to change the psychologically scarred man, a sense of fear yet adrenaline bubbling through your veins.
“Great. It’s a plan.” Standing up, you shake his hand at the man who happily smiles towards you. Was he smiling at you because you’re helping him? Or was it for a different reason?
You sat in your car, munching on some pesto pasta while flicking through his files. Usually, you wouldn’t really psych yourself out by reading the clients files before you met them but your curiosity took over. Wanting to see what was beneath the male’s cold, callous exterior. Scanning through the paper, you looked at his psychological records noted down by his previous psychiatrists. ‘Sociopathic tendencies, manipulative, signs of antisocial behaviour…’
“The list could go on..”
Munching on the rest of your pasta, you glance up at your car system where the clock struck 9:45am. You were late.
“Oh god, i need to go!”
Quickly getting out of your car, you fiddle with your car keys as you try to lock the door. Running to the entrance, you quickly pass the receptionist, not even waiting for her smart comment today. Now speed walking down the corridor, you open the barricaded door with a keycard, just before stepping inside someone stops you.
“You sure you’re okay with this?” It was Micheal.
“Yes, i’m sure, thank you.”
A darkness welcomed you in as you entered the secluded room. Looking up at you , Armando gave you a side smile. His features entrancing you as you notice his messy beard and hair, his rough hands and built shape. His reputation of being a cold blooded killer who ran Miami clearly preceded him.
His arms was cuffed to a bar that separated you and him from the table. A guard was in the corner to which you signalled him to leave, giving you a peculiar look, he obeyed.
“Hello Armando, i’m your new psychiatrist.”
“I know. They were nice enough to give me an attractive one this time.”
You coughed as you felt a heat rise to your cheeks. “Moving forward. I’m [enter name]. I think we can be a first name basis here, don’t you?”
“Sure.”
Getting out your folders, you scan through his section and start asking him questions. He answers some and answers none. Throughout the whole session you stay focused on analysing and observing his behaviour, even though you could feel his glare on you.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Over the next couple of weeks, you become more comfortable within the facility and with Armando. Showing good progress within the facility and your sessions, to the point where even the staff have noticed and complimented you. However, a feeling of pleasure seems to mix within your profession as through every session there seems to be progress with you too.
Your love for him.
You seem not be able to get enough of him, scanning him up and down in his orange jumpsuit as he always leans forward to answer your questions. Leaving the tiniest bit of space between the two, to the extent of which you can feel his breath on your nose. His tattoos trailed down his body, creating its own story the further down you go.
“¿Te gusta lo que ves?”
“What?”
“I’ve noticed the confidence mamas. You’ve been wearing more revealing shirts, been more assertive. No te hagas el tonto.”
“I..”
Leaning forward, Armando slowly reached for your neck, tracing it slightly. “Te he estado sintiendo, sé que tú también me has estado sintiendo a mí".
Feeling the your emotions of love and lust wash over you, the walls protecting yourself and your future come crashing down. Now fully succumbing to him and his actions as you lean into his touch.
“Of course i been feeling you puddin..”
Planting your lips on Armando’s, you embrace him into a passionate kiss to which he accepts, roughly grabbing your neck in an attempt to pull you closer. Moaning into the kiss, it continues for a couple seconds longer before he pulls away.
“¿Puedes conseguirme algunas armas, nena?”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
[🌸] 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒:
“¿Te gusta lo que ves?” : You like what you see?
“No te hagas el tonto.” : Don’t play dumb.
“Te he estado sintiendo, sé que tú también me has estado sintiendo a mí". : I been feeling you, i know you have been feeling me too.
“¿Puedes conseguirme algunas armas, nena?” : Can you get me some guns, baby?

The Eighth Child (~TUA AU~) - Season 4
Chapter 2: The Prodigal Daughter Returns
Warning: Strong language, mention of death and mental illness, talk of addiction.
(The Eighth Child Masterlist)
Tumblr media
A few days passed and they all forgot about Jennifer and the dry cleaner. Viktor decided to stay a few days to make up to Grace for missing her birthday, and Klaus was trying to be more romantic than usual.
"Was that good?" He asked, lying next to His wife.
"Yeah... yeah of course," Victoria nodded.
"You don't have to lie."
"It was okay. You're too soft."
"I can't be rough, you're pregnant!"
She turned her back to him and looked at the jar of marigold on her nightstand.
"I'm sorry," he said with eyes full of tears. "I don't know what to do anymore to save us. I don't know how to be different from what I am now."
"I know," she murmured. "You know how Dad took our powers and all? Because we kept ending the world, but that was because some of our powers were destructive. Allison can start and end wars and she's not mentally stable, Ben can commit a massacre without breaking a sweat, Five can mess with the timeline... but we're not destructive. You just become immortal and see a few ghosts. Alright you can conjure them and stuff, but you won't need to."
"Are you suggesting I drink this shit?"
"That would make you feel safer and nobody would have to know... then you could go back to being the man I love."
"What do you mean? You don't love me anymore?"
"How can I love someone who carries a gas mask to go places?" She snapped. "Who won't eat a runny egg yolk! Who needs to bathe in alcohol before getting in bed? Who won't buy used books because someone might have left fluids on them that could give you a disease? I can't stand your restrictions anymore and you're making our daughter into a fucking wimp like you! You're boring and your new haircut sucks! You getting sober was the worst thing that ever happened to me!"
A silence took over the room and he started crying, scared to wake up their daughter with all the screaming.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean it," Victoria quickly tried to take it back, but words are like bullets. They can't be unshot.
"Three years... you wanna throw three years down the drain because that's what you want, right?" Klaus sobbed. "You love our little parasitic relationship, the eternal screwup and his holy savior! I'm your charity case, I've always been and you feel so superior because you can smoke a joint once in a while, have a few drinks and you're fine! You can go back to being normal Victoria, but I have a disease! Once I start, I can't stop!"
"I know... I didn't mean to-"
"Every time I'd relapse back in the day, you got a glint in your eye! Oh, I get to save him again!"
"That's not true! You know damn well how hard I tried to keep you sober! I said it without thinking!"
"No, don't take it back. Dysfunction is what we do best in this family so how could we ever raise our children in a happy home? You need to traumatize them like Dad did you us! Because you think it made you tough, it made you interesting, it built character. Newsflash, sweetheart! You're just broken and full of Daddy issues!"
"How can you say that?" She started crying as well. They had not fought this badly since she left him to work in California.
"You're selfish and a big baby! You leave me when things get too hard or too boring, you did it when we were 25 and you're doing it now! I'm so done living cowering in your little bubble of superiority!"
"I took care of you your whole life! I made sure you didn't get in trouble, I made sure you were fed and healthy and safe! I was your shield for 30-something years! You know I'd take a bullet for you even now that I'm no longer indestructible! You think it was easy? You think I like picking your sorry ass off the floor when you hit rock bottom?"
"Bottom? Moi? There's no bottom here, missy, no bottom at all. I'm the goddamn Mariana Trench! Just wait till you see!"
"You're threatening me now? Give me a fucking break, I wanted to help you, you coward! So scared of a little itty bitty ghosts that you need to pop every pill on the planet. Your power is a gift!"
"You wouldn't survive a day with my power! So easy for you... I don't feel pain, nothing hurts me!"
"I'd thrive with your power, you're just too weak and cowardly to deal with it how it's supposed to be!"
"Thank you... you know truly thank you. Finally a grain of honesty. Feels refreshing! You wanted the old Klaus? You got him!" He reached for the jar of marigold but she took it from him.
"I'll put this away, nothing good is gonna come from taking this shit..." Victoria got up and grabbed a box from the top shelf to leave the jar in, but she found something that caught her eye. A card.
"Give it to me! You want me to so bad to be your pet junkie again!"
"No! I'll give it back to whoever gave it to us!"
"You'll return it to the man in the dry cleaner?"
"No, someone else... look after Fortune, I'll be back."
**
Victoria headed to the Hargreeves mansion, she had not been there in years. Not ever since she tried to get the location of their birth mothers, but Reginald knew nothing of it.
The guards were more than eager to let her in, they treated her like she was actually part of the family.
When she walked into the mansion, she heard the sweet sound of a violin being played by a beautiful lady who looked almost angelic.
"Abigail."
"Hello, Victoria," she smiled, putting down the violin. "Long time no see! What brings you here today? I see you're glowing, when can we expect the second little one?"
"You forgot your jar of marigold," Vicky leaned against the wall in front of her.
"I'm sorry? I think you're mistaken."
"No, I'm not, step-mama. You know, I can't read minds anymore, but I'm not stupid. That whole Sy Grossman story was mighty suspicious. So I turned to the note you gave us to send the location of Viktor. Where had I seen that handwriting before? Oh yeah! The card you sent to us the day my daughter was born. I had to check it to make sure, and there it was... your handwriting. Now would you tell me why you gave us a jar of this stuff?"
"I synthesized marigold back in my world, but when I created this new element, another one was accidentally produced as a byproduct... Durango."
"Durango."
"Yes, and it's inside of Jennifer."
"Jennifer... as in Jennifer who got my brother killed?"
"I do not know about that... but when marigold and durango interact, there's a dangerous physical reaction."
"Makes sense. He touched Jennifer and started getting this weird rash, then his tentacles were out of control, and he ended up killing himself and the girl... but wait, you gave us Marigold and sent us to look for durango? Do you wanna fucking kill us?" Victoria grabbed Abigail by the collar.
"What is the meaning of this?" Reginald came into the room with a scowl. "Unhand my wife right now!"
"Your wife tried to end the world! I have a child and I'm expecting another! I have a nephew and nieces, how could you do this?"
"I never asked to be brought back!" Abigail finally said. "Reginald brought me back to life and I didn't ask for it! He unleashed this danger into your world after it destroyed ours, I just wanted to cleanse it."
"Very well, it's cleansed," Victoria opened the jar and tossed it in the fireplace. "Now don't you ever come near me or my family, with or without powers, I will end your sorry ass with my bare hands."
"There's no need for this sort of-" Reginald placed himself between them.
"Don't you miss being so strong?" Abigail held up a vial of marigold. "Nothing could hurt you, you knew what everyone was thinking and even controlled it, you controlled what they felt... wasn't it great?"
"I'm great without my powers, I'm a mother and a wife, a business owner... that's all I wanna be," Victoria sneered.
"What about your husband? Don't you miss him? Don't you miss the devil-may-care Klaus? Who jumped in front of cars and spent all night partying? The man you fell in love with is gone."
"Shut up..."
"This is the very last of the marigold in the world. Enough for two people... maybe three, if you want to make your daughter special as well. Protect her from the world."
Victoria sniffled and grabbed the vial, she looked at it and for a moment all the memories from her youth came rushing back.
She remembered crazy nights with Klaus, dance lessons, their mother's shoes, their college days, his face while getting his palms tattooed, the amazing girls she met in Vietnam, her life in the 60s, the cult, his proposal, their wedding, falling out of her window when he tickled her... and it was the concrete that shattered.
"It was the concrete that shattered," Victoria mumbled, opening the vial.
"All you have to do is to look for Jennifer," Abigail murmured.
"Will it hurt us?"
"You won't feel a thing. You and your family will be protected. You won't face the same ending as your brother."
"There's another thing I'm good at besides recognizing handwritings..." Vicky swallowed. "Recognizing liars."
She tossed the glowing liquid into the fire once again and turned her back to leave.
"Victoria!" Abigail called.
"Enjoy the rest of your life in our world and don't you dare create more of this shit. I'll come kill you myself."
**
Meanwhile, back at home, Klaus was pacing around the room. He kept replaying and replaying all the moments from the fight in his mind and it hurt more and more each time he remembered.
That familiar need started taking over and he knew he was about to relapse. He took the phone and called Claire, asking her to come over and pick up Fortune because he had to take care of an emergency.
After that, he started going through the house grabbing everything valuable he could get his hands on. First his own wedding ring, Vicky's collectible Disney music boxes, her jewelry, the Rolex she got him for their anniversary, and finally their daughter's piggy bank.
He smashed Fortune's porcelain pig on the floor and grabbed all the money inside before pulling their flat screen off the wall in the living room.
"Daddy?" Fortune stood behind him. "Why did you break the piggy bank? I'm saving for a Barbie Dream House!"
"Tunnie baby!" He tried to smile. "You're here! Claire is coming to pick you up so you can play at Aunt Alli's house."
"What are you doing, Dada?" She frowned, noticing something was clearly weird.
"You know this TV has been on the fritz for a while. Haven't you noticed, baby girl? I just thought I'd take her down to the old geek lab, let them work their magic."
"It's not broken, Dada. You're weird, I'm scared... where's Mommy?"
Fortune tried to come closer, but Klaus held his hand up.
"No no no! Your feet, sweetheart, you'll hurt your feet with the shards. Watch your feet, sweetheart!" He cried, covering his mouth in panic. "The piggy was an accident, Tunnie, I'll pay you back."
"I don't care about the money, Dada, I want you to be okay," the little girl looked down, tears running down her face. "I know something's wrong, please tell me so we can talk and make it better."
"I'll talk to you, Tunnie, I will. But Daddy has had a horrible day and he just can't... just can't have this conversation right now. I'm sorry."
"Claire said you were sick. That you needed help to stay healthy, are you not feeling well again? I can help you! I'll call 911, please stay with me!"
"It's too late, baby, I'm sorry. You stay put and wait for your cousin, okay? You need to stay on the couch waiting for her and when mommy comes back, she'll pick you up."
"No, Daddy! Don't go! You're sick, you need a doctor!" Fortune tried to stop him from going to the door.
"No, Tunnie, Daddy's gonna leave now just for a little bit."
"Please stay! It's dark and I'm scared!"
"I gotta go-"
"But Daddy...!"
"WILL YOU PLEASE JUST FUCKING MOVE?" He yelled. "NOW DO WHAT YOUR FATHER SAYS AND DON'T TALK BACK, FORTUNE BENNIE HARGREEVES!"
The little girl was stunned into silence and her little pout quickly turned into panic as she started crying harder. She watched her father leave and sat on the floor sobbing quietly.
Not once had he ever raised his voice at his daughter, she was an easy girl and never got in trouble. She never needed to be punished or grounded, he always considered himself lucky... but now Klaus feared he was turning into what he hated most: his father.
*
"Hello," Victoria picked up the phone as she drove back home.
"Vicky, we need to get together right now," Five said. "Bring Klaus."
"I don't know where he is, he left Fortune at Allison's and disappeared with our TV and my jewelry. I'm looking for him right now."
"Shit... we need you! I think we have some more insight on the whole Jennifer situation."
"So do I, wait until I tell you who planted the marigold in that box and sent us after durango."
"What? What are you talking about? Ben is here! We're all at the old Academy."
"I know, he's an asshole. Big news..."
"No, not Sparrow Ben, our Ben."
"What?" She nearly crashed the car when she made a turn to head to the Academy. "How?"
"He found this sort of subway where the train takes you to different timelines, there's a crack in time and space which made several portals around the world to this station. The timelines are bleeding into each other."
"Please don't say another apocalypse is coming, I can't cope," she huffed.
"No, I mean, not if we find out how this is all connected. It's supposed to be one timeline, The Keepers, that group Sy mentioned... Lila and I have been infiltrated there for months and they know we're in the wrong timeline."
"Well fuck, that means the cleanse is a little more drastic than I thought."
"How do you know about the cleanse?"
"Abigail told me, it's a whole chemical thing with Jennifer. I'll explain better once I'm there."
"Jennifer? Oh, that makes sense why Dad is trying to keep her away from society."
"He is?"
"Jean and Gene, the leaders of that group I told you about were just murdered along with a bunch of their followers when they tried to kidnap Jennifer from the make-believe town where she lives. Everyone in the town is a Hargreeves soldier."
"Alright, I'm so confused. The Klaus hunt will have to wait, I'll be there in five... Five."

whenever you get to this, i hope this song haunts you because i want/need/deeply desire some absolutely lovestruck henchperson humming this while they get to work, stealing looks at their beloved boss
Tumblr media
I'll take it to a whole other level of 'why am I doing this!?'
So you are head over heels for your boss. Do they know? Probably. Probably not. Regardless the things you're told to do are insane. You let out a big sigh before muttering to yourself, almost pleading with yourself not to do this. "The things I do for love..."
The Riddler: Test a dangerous trap. "Put your hand like so. I've went through all the bother to make it obvious." You heard through the speaker. You eyed the hand shape in front of you. All fingers spread. "This won't go off, will it boss?" You asked shakily. "Of course not, I have disabled it." He was getting bored, of that you were certain. The Riddler wasn't a patient man. You weren't even certain that you believed him. He'd find it hilarious if the trap went off and cut off a finger. The things I do for love. You shakily put your hand on the device and with a ching! It opened up from the sides, a red hot laser appearing. You snatched your band back. "Excellent! As I expected!" You heard his voice ring out.
Scarecrow: Make a distraction by exposing yourself to fear toxin. You'd rather shoot yourself in the leg if you had to choose. This wasn't even gas! All you had were needles of the toxin. However if you didn't act, Scarecrow would be discovered by the Batman. It was your job to make sure he didn't get caught so quickly or at all. You wrapped a few elastic bands on your bicep, finding a vein. You hesitated. The orange goo filled syringe almost taunting you. You sighed. The things you did for love. Whilst you didn't particularly enjoy needles, it was nothing compared to the toxin that quick reigned havoc. Your screaming got the Batman's attention and alerted Scarecrow that you certainly weren't alone.
Two-Face: Try to shoot Batman in the face. The Batman's armour was bullet proof. Of that you knew. However surely his mask wasn't. That was a risky move. First he'd be a moving target. Secondly if it didn't work, you were so very screwed. You internally sighed. The things you do for love. You snatched the gun from Two-Face's hand and aimed it at the Batman, firing as quickly as you could...and you bloody missed. Batman raised his arm and shielded his face from the bullet upon instinct. "Fuck..." You and Two-Face said in unison before the pair of you took off running, an irate bat in pursuit.
Mad Hatter: Jump Batman. You had to put yourself in Arkham after this because this is stupid even by your standards. Jervis cannot fight to save his life. Batman literally fought to save everyone else's life. No one needed three guesses to know who would win this. You turned to make eye contact with another henchman. The bunny head nodded to you. He had your back. You looked at the other henchman on the other side of you. He also nodded. There was no way you could sneak up behind him. This was the Batman so one henchman reloaded his gun, the noise being enough to let you take a careful step forward. The same henchman turned his head to the double doors you couldn't see. After a couple of seconds the doors were slammed shut. You quickly took another step forward and Batman turned his head towards the doors but didn't see you. You looked up at a henchman on the balcony. He angled his gun to the far wall and pulled the trigger. You jumped and everyone turned to action as you coiled your arms and legs around the Batman. The others punching and kicking before he could throw you off.
Black Mask: Stop Roman mid-tantrum. Roman was dangerous well before he lost his shit. So when he did freak out in a complete rage, it had a tendancy of scaring everyone into a stiffened silence. No one dared move a muscle. Kind of like if you don't move, he won't see you. However, if he kept being so loud. He was going to gather some unwanted attention by the GCPD. You were practically kissing your life goodbye if you stopped him but you had to. You sighed. The things you do for love. "Roman!" You caught his hands. "Boss, look at me!" You begged. "I know this is fucking shit but if you're not quiet, we're gonna get caught! The GCPD are onto us!" He looked furious, a deadly glare burning into you and you quickly thought this was the end when you felt his wrists relax as the glare melted into a less hot anger. He ripped himself free of you. "You fuckin' stupid or crazy?" He demanded. "Probably both." You replied, rather uncertain of the answer yourself.
Penguin: Jump Nightwing. Nightwing and Penguin were an entertaining feud to say the least. However you still had a job to do. Do everything you could to ensure the Penguin didn't get caught. Considering Nightwing was already here. There was very little you couldn't do. Nightwing's back was to you as you put a finger to your lips. Oswald's gaze flickered to you before back to Nightwing. It was barely noticeable. You internally sighed. The things you do for love. You didn't think of much else, if you did. You'd chicken out. So you ran forward and jumped onto Nightwing's back. Just as Nightwing tried to pull you off of him, the other henchmen dived in.

Hapa revamp! yeah i mightve only made them less than a week ago but i know a lot more about splatoon now so there was a few things i wanted to fix + some stuff i wanted to change (specifically i really really wanted to give hapa a beak based off dunkleosteous teeth)
anyways, i think im set on having them be the new agent 3 ill be using for spat3 hero mode once the game comes out! EXTREMELY hyped for that, hehe
random thoughts about hapa + big buddy under the cut (and a bonus doodle, too!)
originally defected from the octarian army during the events of splatoon 1
did not go to inkopolis; ended up living with salmonids for a while instead. they were tolerated at first due to the octarian/salmonid trade agreements making things not as tense as between salmonids and inklings, eventually accepted into salmonid society by virtue of just. being there for a while
drove out of salmonid territory after it was suspected that they stole a golden egg. that DID happen but it was kind of an accident due to a series of mishaps and misunderstandings
golden egg hatches into big buddy. Hapa is kinda stuck being a salmonid parent now
probably because Hapa is dripping neurotoxin 24/7, big buddy is probably going to grow up into a boss salmonid at this rate, if not a king salmonid
Hapa ends up in Splatsville very shortly before the start of Splatoon 3. like they might've been there for a day or two at most
They can speak octarian fluently as their first language, speaks halfway decent salmonid, and inkling very very little
they have an overgrown beak and overproduce venom. will usually be wearing protective gear over their mouth (respirator, gas mask, face shield, etc) to not envenom others by accident
retrofitted a spare ink canister that big buddy carries around in case of emergencies
bad eyesight and bad aim
yeah i did in fact look up in game inkling script to write both of their names. also the numbers on the warning sign on the shirt are written in inkling script too hehehe
ring colors and venom color will always be complementary to the ink color!
will probably end up tweaking all that once the actual game is out, but that's what i have so far hehehehehe
+ bonus: swim form w/ a different ink color (team rock my beloved)

[Image: A sketch page of some sort of space marine lookin’ gal gone monster. She’s top-heavy with big ‘ol claws, like a werewolf, but if a werewolf had her face fused with a gas mask and a bunch of cybernetics. frayed wires and tubes dangle from her head, neck, spine, and ribs, forming a motile mane. In one drawing she wears a duster full of bulletholes that’s a few sizes too short for her, brandishing an oversized pistol with a blade attached to it.
Accompanying her is a research assistant who looks friendly enough, if a bit in over her head. She’s tall, lightly armored, and wears her hair up in a wavy ponytail. She seems to be much more ‘analog’ than her cohort, wearing glasses and a relatively simple prosthetic leg.
In another drawing, the R.A. holds her hat over her head, shielding herself from the rain. She shares a moment with the soldier, apparently before her transformation;
R.A.: God I miss my mom. You ever miss your folks, chief?
Chief: I was grown in a vat. ]
*plastering my deranged little drawings on the wall* I Can Explain.
So a ~week ago, I had a dream about this Warhammer 40k-ass space marine who saves the life of a scrawny little research assistant, but pays the ultimate price and gets infected with the Diseases and the Sicknesses, which turn her into a shambling biomechanical monster. But the two of them are in love! And they are saved through the power of love, and also the power of dodging the draft.
Somehow, this activated the part of my brain that has lain dormant since I was like 9 years old, when I’d use my brother’s copy of WH40k: Dawn of War to act out trilogy-length adventure stories. I’ve been thinking a Normal Amount about these two women and drawing shitty little comics ever since.
I guess since this is the first doodle in the batch it would be good to introduce these two.
The Chief is like… She’s exactly what you’d expect from someone who has been groomed from birth to be a living weapon for an imperial regime. She has a lot of deprogramming to do. But she’s remarkably agreeable and even pretty well-intentioned, if you can get past the gruff exterior and the bonkers yonkers internal moral code that was drilled into her. Really, you get the sense that something in her is pushing back against all this, despite every effort to wire her otherwise…
The R.A. comes from a podunk little desert planet. Its people are so “backwards” and “uncivilized,” the land so “hostile,” that the extent of their relationship with the Empire is a yearly tithe that they forget to collect most years. This is, of course, code for “people who live in a desert in a non-sessile way that doesn’t align with settler expectations, and as fortune would have it, they’re spared the strife of ‘civilization’ in their invisibility and the perceived uselessness of their lands.”
The rest of the deployment considers her a luddite from a backwater shithole. She’s fine with this. In reality, she’s a polymath at heart, and is a talented mechanic, engineer, and general techie. She just happens to know enough about the Empire that she does Not want their technology anywhere near her body, thank you! Sometimes she feels like the only one in the universe who has gone outside and touched grass, and it’s driving her banana sandwich. But she’s not about to tell the shambling instruments of war called her coworkers that there’s, like, actual plants and stuff back home. That would be bad.
Well, maybe she’d tell one person. But only if she asks really really nicely.

Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Hades (Chapter 7)
Tumblr media
Planet Charm.
It was a prosperous star long ago. However, now it is falling apart. There were collapsed buildings left here and there.
“It looks like this place used to be well-developed,” Sword Knight said as he walked through the torn down city.
Blade Knight nodded. “Oh, that’s right. You can see it by looking at the back of the buildings. These seem to be good structures.”
“Why do you think they’re abandoned now?”
“Hm, maybe because of a war or because of a disaster…”
“What happened to the inhabitants?”
“Who knows, they’re not here now.”
The two were sullen, but the break refreshed them and they turned around at the same time.
Of course, Kirby and King Dedede were refreshed.
“Listen, listen! I made a great discovery! If you have orange juice in your right hand and apple juice in your left hand and drink them both at the same time, it’s really delicious~!”
“Haha, nice, Kirby. I’ve known that for a long time now. My latest big discovery was a fish cake on a rice cake and…”
“...Hey!” Sword Knight called out to them with a loud voice. “Come on, snack time is over.”
“Eh?”
“No more! You guys keep eating all the time!”
King Dedede replied, stroking his round tummy. “It’s not just eating. We’re preparing for a fight. If you’re hungry, fighting isn’t going to happen.”
Kirby also spoke with a serious look. “Snacks give me strength! Snacks are my most important companion. I was deepening the bond with my companion!”
“Tch… one track minds those guys.” Sword Knight suddenly lowered his voice and whispered. “This is already enemy territory. Beryl may be hiding somewhere and watching us.”
“Where do you think?” King Dedede raised his voice. “Hey Beryl! If you’re nearby, don’t mess around! Come on out now!”
Both Sword Knight and Blade Knight pulled out their swords and got up.
However, there was no sign of him anywhere.
King Dedede said, “It seems we’ve got no choice but to go to an ancient temple.”
“Temple… where is it?”
The party looked around.
Waddle Dee shouted, “Oh, there it is! You can see a strange building.”
There was a large building in the direction that Waddle Dee pointed to. It’s dilapidated, but it seems it used to be a great building. The atmosphere there was different from the other ones.
“That looks like it,” King Dedede began to walk with great momentum.
At that time, the sky suddenly became dark.
Kirby looked up and shouted. “Oh, it’s the Halberd!”
Sword Knight’s communication device started ringing.
It’s a call from Captain Vul. His voice began to flow from the speaker. “We’re above you. Did you find Beryl?”
“Not yet. We are heading to the ancient temple.”
“The four Meta Knights here will join you. I want you all to fight together.”
“Captain… how is Meta Knight doing…?”
Captain Vul replied with a heavy voice. “He still isn’t awake.”
“...Is that so.”
“But it’s okay!” Vul’s voice was powerful. “The doctors say there is a good chance he’ll recover.”
“A good chance?”
“A really good chance!” It sounded like Captain Vul didn’t believe it. “Anyway, defeat Beryl and regain the Galaxia. That’s all we can do.”
“Yes, sir!”
Kirby and the others looked at each other.
“Let’s go!”
With Kirby’s voice as a signal, the party started walking towards the temple.
Tumblr media
With the addition of the Meta Knights who descended from the battleship Halberd, the group of nine arrived at the ancient temple.
The temple was a large stone building, but collapsed in various parts and hardly retained its original shape.
Blade Knight said, being alert and vigilant, “It seems the damage is more severe here than other buildings.”
Sword Knight muttered, “Beryl you monster… what kind of trap are you planning here…?”
It was then, a voice ran from the back of the temple.
“You actually came here? Stupid people.” It sounded just like Meta Knight.
The nine were furious.
King Dedede screamed, “So you finally showed up, Beryl! We know your trap, we know you’re here!”
“Fufufu… that memo wasn’t a trap, it was more of a calculation.”
“What?”
“For my plan, you guys had to come here to catch me. That note did exactly what it was supposed to.”
King Dedede’s face was enraged. “Beryl. You sound just like Meta Knight, even that pretentious way of talking. It’s annoying!”
The knight cried out.
“What do you want?”
“You hurt our master!”
“Meta Knight isn’t a fake!”
“How can you be so smug!”
Sword Knight said in a hurry. “Hey, we should split up, the enemy is…” He pointed his sword at the temple. “Over there! There he is, Beryl!”
“Fufufu…” From the darkness, Beryl slowly began to walk. He looked just like Meta Knight. In his hand, of course, he was holding the Galaxia.
“Rah…” King Dedede tried to run straight at him.
But Beryl quickly shouted, “Oh I won’t be fighting you. Your opponent is… this guy!”
Beryl swung up the Galaxia and slammed it on the stone floor. The floor cracked with a loud noise and a pure, white light burst out.
“What…!?”
Kirby and his friends all closed their eyes from the glare.
Blade Knight shouted with horror. “This light… no… no way…!?”
“Hahahahaha!” Sounding like his swordsman disguise, Beryl burst into laughter.
The light diminished and Kirby and his friends were finally able to open their eyes. Standing in front of them was a masked warrior with pure, white wings. In his right hand, a huge lance. In his left, he held a shield with the coat of arms of a cross.
Sword Knight shouted, freezing up. “Ga… Galacta Knight!”
Tumblr media
“Fufufu… that’s right.” Beryl acted like he was victorious.
A legendary warrior who is said to have been sealed off for his power in ancient times. That is Galacta Knight.
Once upon a time, Meta Knight broke the seal and challenged Galacta Knight. After a fierce battle, Galacta Knight should have been sealed against and sent back to another dimension. Why is the strongest warrior here…?
Blade Knight quivered. “This is the trap he prepared…!”
Sword Knight nodded. “This temple has a gate that leads to another dimension. Beryl knew it and used it!”
“Oh, that’s…!”
The Meta Knights began to shake.
“What are we going to do!?”
“Even Meta Knight, a legendary warrior, struggled to fight him!”
“We-we can’t defeat him!”
“We need to run away…!”
But it was too late. Galacta Knight used his lance to knock a large rock. Its sharp tip was pointed downhill.
“Waaaaa!”
Kirby and the others rolled in different directions and managed to avoid the blow.
King Dedede screamed, “Waddle Dee, I’m going to throw you out of here!”
“Y...yes…!”
The king grabbed Waddle Dee and threw him as far as he could.
“Waaaaa!” Waddle Dee flew high and was thrown into a safe place.
Kirby opened his hand and shouted desperately. “Wait, Galacta Knight! We don’t want to fight! It’s not Meta Knight who broke the seal, he’s a fake!”
However, Galacta Knight was gaining momentum and attacking.
King Dedede roared, flying around and dodging attacks. “Give it up, Kirby! He’s not someone you can just talk to!”
“B-but…!”
“If we don’t deal with this, everyone will be killed!”
It was exactly what King Dedede said. At this rate, everyone would be annihilated.
Kirby nodded. “...Okay. I have no other choice but to fight. Let’s go!”
“Oh, oh!” The Meta Knights, while fleeing, picked up their weapons.
Galacta Knight held his lance high. From its tip, beams of light were fired in quick succession.
“Aaaahhhh-!” The knights were all dodging.
King Dedede shouted, “Yeah, no talking. Leave it to me!”
The king slammed his hammer down at Galacta Knight. However, the knight turned his lance around and rejected the attack. It was a tremendous power. King Dedede staggered and was about to turn over.
The huge lance attacked!
“Look out, King Dedede!” Kirby jumped out and pushed the king. The lance cut the sky, barely missing the king’s tummy.
“D...damn! Thanks, Kirby!”
Galacta Knight’s attacks persist. King Dedede and Kirby flew left and right to dodge his sharp lance. A crack grew in the ground where he last hit.
Trident Knight shouted in a quivering voice. “What power…! They have no chance…!”
Javelin Knight spoke up. “Kirby needs a copy ability! Yeah, that’s right!” He ran out in front of Kirby. “Inhale me, Kirby!”
“Eh?”
“Copy my power!”
Upon hearing this, the Meta Knights screamed one after another.
“No, me!”
“Me!”
“Use my power!”
The four squeezed into Kirby, as if fighting.
Blade Knight screamed. “You guys are making too much fuss! If you want to help Kirby, go one at a time…!”
However, Kirby’s voice was joyful.. “Thank you everyone! If I have a copy ability, I won’t lose!”
Kirby opened his mouth wide and inhaled with all his might.
“WAAAAAAA!?” Blade Knight fluttered his hands and flew into the air.
Immediately, Kirby’s appearance changed. A green pointed hat on his head, a shining sword in his hand, this is the copy ability “sword” that can cut with a blade!
Tumblr media
Everyone cheered.
“He did it!”
“If he has a copy ability, Kirby won’t lose!”
“Go for it, Kirby!”
Sword Knight shouted, “We’ll catch Beryl! Everyone, follow me!”
Beryl turned over his cloak and was about to escape to the depths of the temple.
Sword Knight started running after Beryl.
Before he could get to him, Galacta Knight stood in his way. A crescent-shaped shock wave popped out of his shield.
“Look out!” Kirby slipped in and protected Sword Knight in a guard position.
King Dedede shouted. “Leave it to me and Kirby here! You guys must catch Beryl!”
“Okay, I’m having fun! Let’s go!”
Sword Knight and the other knights chased after Beryl.
Beryl’s escape was fast. However, something about it was strange.
Pretending to escape to the back of the temple, he turned around while overcoming collapsing walls and pillars. He was deliberately attracting his followers by leaning or slipping his legs to get over the debris.
As Sword Knight ran after him, he realized something was off. “Everyone, be careful. He’s planning something!” He called out to his friends.
Beryl’s laughter ran out. “Fufufu! You’re doing a good job. But you’re too late!” He stepped on the bulge of the stone at his feet.
The floor under Sword Knight cracked. “AHHH!?” He screamed and fell into a square hole in the floor.
Beryl stood at the edge of the hole, looked down, and ridiculed him. “Fufufu! I’m sorry, but I couldn’t prepare a hell hole like the one that dropped your master. This one is just a normal hole, but why don’t you wait here for a bit!”
“Beryl! Damn you!”
“This trap is said to have been made long ago to ward off sinners. Fufufu, I guess that makes you one since you went against the great Beryl.”
A small shadow sneaked behind Beryl in his pretentious speech. Unaware, he keeps talking. Until, behind him…
“Eeeeei!”
“Waddle Dee is here to save the day!” Waddle Dee’s power was weak, but Beryl was caught off guard and lost his balance.
“DOHAAA!?” Beryl raised a pitiful voice and swung his arms around.
“Taaahhh!” Waddle Dee slammed against him in the final blow.
Beryl fell to the bottom of the hole. “Nooo….” Beryl was about to get up but was stuck, surrounded by five enemies. Where was his bossy, confident attitude now?
Beryl began to ratte. “Ah, uh… w-wait, no way, all five of you…? P-please!”
“We don’t want to hear anything from you!” Sword Knight thrust his sword at Beryl.
“Hey…! Don’t try anything, okay?”
“First of all, take off that disguise! I can’t forgive a guy who imitates Meta Knight!”
“Yes, yes! I’m sorry!” Beryl took off his mask and fluttered. What appeared was a tiny creature with a flat face.
The Meta Knights all buzzed.
“Why, this is what Beryl really looked like!”
“Unforgivable! Such a weak guy disguised himself as Meta Knight!”
“Only the talent of his disguise will be recognized.”
“If he’s such a talented person, he should have used it for something better.”
Sword Knight extended one hand. “Now, return the Galaxia!”
“Uh… uh… yes… I’m sorry…” Beryl handed over the sword.
Sword Knight took it with care and looked up. “The day was saved, all thanks to Waddle Dee!”
“I’m glad I was useful!” Waddle Dee looked into the hole and said.
He had been in a safe place, but he was worried about everyone and watched from behind the pillars. Then, he noticed the evil of Beryl and gently snuck up behind him.
Sword Knight said, “Now, we need to fight Galacta Knight… and…” There was a considerable height up to the edge of the hole. He couldn’t reach it just by jumping and he didn’t have a foothold to climb.
“Waddle Dee! Is there any way to get up there?”
“Eh… let me see…” Waddle Dee was wandering around, but there was no convenient way to get him out. “I… don’t see one.”
“Hmm…” They all thought about the depth of the hole.
Sword Knight said, “Waddle Dee, what’s going on in the fight?”
Waddle Dee looked up and turned towards Kirby and the fight.
Tumblr media
The battle was about to reach its climax.
Kirby, King Dedede, and Galacta Knight had each suffered considerable damage. Still, the three do not let down their attacks. No, the battle heats up more and more, breathtakingly.
“Eh! Drill Sword!”
“Kyaa! Dedede Hammer!”
Kirby and King Dedede are pushing out deadly tricks one after another.
Galacta Knight wielded his lance and brilliantly evaded the attacks. Energy bursts from the tip of his weapon. A thunder-like pillar appeared on the stone floor, making a loud noise.
Kirby and King Dedede gazed for a moment, moving around quickly and dodging.
Usually they are just fighting for delicious food, but when they confront a strong enemy, their breathing is perfectly in sync. Even if they didn’t exchange words, they could understand each other's thoughts just by glancing at each other.
- If we attack him separately, he’ll just evade our attacks!
- Hm! Hold your breath and attack at the same time!
Galacta Knight raised his lance.
Following that momentary blow, Kirby and King Dedede fired at the same time.
“Sky Energy Sword!”
“Giant Dedede Swing!”
Tumblr media
Their specialty is a clean hit on Galacta Knight!
As expected, Galacta Knight couldn’t dodge both of the attacks and fell down on the stone floor.
Immediately, Kirby struck a deadly blow.
“Meteor Strike!”
Galacta Knight was blown away and fell on his back.
“Hooray!” Kirby blew his voice.
King Dedede lifted his hammer over his shoulder, breathing wildly.
“Haahaahaa… Galacta Knight… is like if… you talk to me… before my morning meal… wow…!”
However, Galacta Knight was about to wield his last power. He raised his body, clinging to his lance, and slowly spread his pure, white wings.
King Dedede shouted in a flutter. “What…!? Hey, are you still fighting!?”
However, Galacta Knight no longer had the power to lift his lance.
A legendary warrior who was once sealed because he was too strong. He is now about to be sealed in another dimension again.
The falling knight made a low moan. His voice gradually became louder and shook the temple. It was the agonizing death scream of a legendary warrior.

Book Two: Sapphire (Ignis x Reader) Chapter III
The next morning, Gladio dragged Noctis out of bed so they could leave. Ignis finished dressing himself and looked around the motel room. He couldn't find Prompto or (Y/n). Having no doubt the boy had taken the spirit again, he walked out of the room. Scanning the area, he immediately found the two. What shocked him was Prompto's position. He was laying down on the ground on his stomach, his legs swinging back and forth. His camera was trained on the skvader as she laid down on the ground.
"C'mon, work with me here, (Y/n)!" Prompto begged. "How about you hide behind the motel and transform? And when you're ready, you can call me."
The spirit yawned, her nose wiggling slightly. She flopped down on her side with a faint grunt. Lowering his camera, Prompto nibbled on his bottom lip. "Okay, that was really adorable, but not what I was looking for."
"Prompto," Ignis called out, stepping off the porch of the motel. "You'll soil your clothes laying on the ground in such a manner."
"Aaand Mama Ignis has appeared," he sighed. Pushing himself off the ground, he held his camera close to his chest. "Morning to you too, Iggy."
(Y/n) shot up at hearing his name. She dashed over to the advisor and climbed up his body until she was situated on his left shoulder. She threw her long tail around his shoulders, nuzzling her body against the side of his neck. Once she was comfortable, she flopped down and allowed her hind legs to dangle from his shoulder.
Just then, Gladio and Noctis exit the motel room. Ignis glances at his other companions before deciding it was time to leave. "Let's see ourselves to Galdin, shall we?"
"Might as well," Noctis mumbled tiredly.
The group climbs into the Regalia and departs from Longwythe Rest Area. (Y/n) remained on Ignis' shoulder as he drove, enjoying the sensation of the wind blowing through her fur. She looked around as they passed through a ravine of sorts as the radio came to life. The station was broadcasting the news of the upcoming wedding between Noctis and Lunafreya. She could hear Gladio teasing the prince slightly when the broadcast ended, but tuned them out and continued to enjoy the scenery. It was her first time outside of the Crown City and she wanted to enjoy every second of it.
When Galdin Quay came into view from the highway, Prompto stood up in his seat in excitement. "Hey! I see the sea!"
"I "sea" it too," Noctis replied, eyes focused on the clear waters of the ocean.
"That's Galdin Quay," Ignis informed the group.
"Kinda wanna go for a dip," Gladio commented.
Noctis noticed the strange rock formation in the distance. "That a big mountain behind it?"
"No, it's an island," the strategist answered.
"Nobody goes to Galdin for an island, though," Prompto stated. "They go to kick back and get massages!"
"And savor the seafood. It's famously delicious."
"Sounds great," Noctis said.
"Somethin' to look forward to," the shield claimed.
(Y/n) couldn't tear her gaze away from the beautiful beaches of Galdin Quay. The water was clear and the sand was pure white. She already knew what she wanted to do, even though it would risk revealing her human form to Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto. She was going to relax on the beach and nothing was going to get in her way, not even Ignis.
Arriving at Galdin Quay, Ignis backed the Regalia up into a parking spot located by the gas pump. Everyone exited the vehicle and headed towards the Mother of Pearl. Walking across the lengthy boardwalk, they reach the entrance of the restaurant/hotel. A member of the staff greeted them, bowing politely with a hand over his chest. Their destination was the docks, which were located in the back.
They didn't make it far before two men approached them. The taller one had unkempt hair and was cladded in multiple layers of dark clothing. The other man had spiky black locks and wore a faded green jacket with a black t-shirt underneath. Below the waist he wore matching combat pants and black boots. Around his neck swayed the dog tags of what appeared to be his identification as a hunter.
The auburn-haired man was the first to speak. "I'm afraid you're out of luck."
"Are we?" Noctis asked, slightly bothered by the men's presences. He wanted them gone as soon as possible and he had no idea why.
"The boats bring you here."
"What about 'em?" Prompto wondered.
"You're not leaving anytime soon," the spiky-haired man answered. "Better get comfortable."
Gladio crosses his arms, glancing between the two strangers. "And what're your stories?"
"We're impatient travelers, ready to turn ship. The ceasefire's getting us nowhere," the auburn-haired man replied. He then gestures to his companion, who tosses a coin at Noctis.
Gladio snatches it out of the air before it can hit the prince. He examined the coin before looking back up at the strange men. "What's this? Some sort of souvenir?"
Prompto saw the coin and gaped. "They make those?"
Noctis also saw the coin and shook his head. "What? No."
"Consider it your allowance," the taller gentleman remarked with a small, unsettling smile.
"Yeah, and who's allowing us?" The shield scoffed.
He bowed slightly. "Men of no consequences." He then patted his companion on the shoulder. "Come, dear friend. Let us set off."
The spiky-haired man stood still as if her feet were nailed to the floor. He didn't budge as his emerald eyes dwelled on the skvader resting on Ignis' shoulder. Her sapphire eyes locked with his, earning a smirk from the stranger before turning to follow his friend.
"Yeah, right," Noctis sneered under his breath.
Prompto fiddled with his fingers in wonderment. "You believe what those guys said about the port being closed?"
"I'm skeptical, though I won't discount the possibility," Ignis replied.
"I say we go check it out for ourselves," Gladio said.
Walking through the Mother of Pearl, they pass by numerous of people who were enjoying what Galdin Quay had to offer. (Y/n) jumped off the strategist's shoulder and flew to the docks ahead of the boys. She sat near the edge of the docks and gazed out across the ocean. There were no boats in sight.
When she turned around, her eyes landed on a well-dressed young man who was sitting on one of the benches with his legs crossed. She realized he was staring at her with a wide-eyed expression. Carefully approaching him, she sat down a few inches from him. Her tail swished behind her as she squeaked at him, startling him.
The young man, having never met a guardian before, leant down and outstretched his hand to pet her. He was hesitant, but he pushed his fear aside when she stood up on her hind legs and nudged her head against his hand. "Well, aren't yous a friendly one."
(Y/n) looked away from the man when she heard Prompto groan out, "Aw, man. Not a ship in sight. What gives?"
The guardian turned around to see the boys were searching the docks for boats. The young man who was petting her stopped and addressed her companions. "According to my sources, the empire, giving strict orders not to let any vessels leave the docks of Altissia. Real shame if you were late to your own wedding-right, Prince Noctis? Name's Dino, by the way. Pleasure. The crown prince of Lucis, bounty hunting in his fancy car... Surely you didn't think it'd go unnoticed-at least not by this reporter? Lucky for you, this reporter has integrity. If you wanna remain incognito, I'll respect your wish...in exchange for a favor."
Noctis glared at him and kept himself from lashing out in anger at the man's threat. "What do you want?"
"Hey, I knew you'd come around!" Dino cheered. "Lemme see your map."
Reluctantly, the prince hands over the map. Dino pulls out a pen from his pocket and circles an area on the map. Putting the pen away, he handed the map back to Noctis. "Marked where you need to go on your map. All you gotta do is find me some rough gemstones-like this one. Do this, and your ship'll come in. Don't, and the papers'll run you outta town. Capisce?"
(Y/n) stared Dino down as the boys walked away. She didn't blink, which frightened him slightly. Although he was trying to hide his emotions behind a mask, she could tell from his silver gaze he would never truly blow Noctis' cover.
Satisfied with her analysis, she let out a final squeak before flying off to rejoin the others. She caught up with them just as they were stepping off the boardwalk. She wound up crash-landing on Noctis' head. She hung limply from his head with a faint huff. The prince tensed slightly when she collided with his head, but this wasn't the first time she's done so. He grabbed her small body and held her at eye level a few inches from his face. "Don't think I didn't see you with that reporter. You on his side now?"
Outstretching her front paws, (Y/n) made sure her sable claws were retracted before placing her paws on Noctis' cheeks. She squeaked, tapping her soft paws against his face lightly. A smile blossomed on the prince's face. He couldn't help but find her actions adorable. "Yeah, I know you would never betray us. You and Specs are attached at the hip."
The skvader climbed across Noctis' arm the moment he released her. She perched herself on his shoulder as he entered the backseat of the Regalia. Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto followed suit and it wasn't long before they left Galdin Quay to find what Dino requested.
Not far down the road, Ignis pulled the car over to the shoulder and parked. Everyone stepped out of the vehicle and followed Noctis up a stony path. They crossed over a rocky overhang that spanned across the road below. The prince, along with (Y/n) who was still on his shoulder, carefully examined the map before putting it away.
Eventually, they reach an outcrop where they find an enormous bird slumbering. It ruffled its feathers in its sleep, burying its beak against its puffed out chest. Prompto gasped at the sight of the immense beast. "Oh em gee. We're supposed to get near that thing?"
"Pipe down before you wake it up," Gladio hissed just above a whisper.
Crouching, Noctis took the lead and carefully maneuvered around the bird. The others were close behind him, eyes focused on the creature as they held their breath. (Y/n) flattened her small form against the prince's shoulder as they circled around the front of the bird. She could sense just how powerful it was due to its size alone.
Successfully making it past the zu, Noctis stalked over towards a mineral deposit. He grabbed one of the loose pieces of garnet stone and put it into his pocket. He glanced at (Y/n) from the corner of his eye once receiving a soft squeak in response to being able to find and secure what Dino wanted. "Better get it back to him," he whispered to her. She nodded her head in response.
Turning around, Noctis proceeded back the way they came. Ignis was by his side as they rounded around the zu. Unfortunately, the large bird was awoken by a seemingly unknown force. It unfurls its wings, flapping them as hard as it could and creating a powerful gust of wind. (Y/n) dug her claws into Noctis' jacket in a desperate attempt to keep herself from being blown away. Morosely, it wasn't enough. Her small body was sent sailing through the air as the zu took off.
Luckily, Ignis was close by and saw what happened. He snatched her body out of the air and held her close. He loosened his grip on her after the wind died down and the bird was out of sight. "Off it goes..."
Noctis inhaled deeply to calm his racing heart. "Oh, we made it out alive."
"Barely. I seriously thought we were at journey's end," Prompto whimpered.
"But that feat was fit for a king," Gladio commented.
"We've acquired what we came for. Time to return to Galdin," the advisor said. He released (Y/n) and watched her fly around without the fear of being blown away. She went ahead of the boys and returned to the Regalia.
Prompto had also been watching her until she vanished from sight. "You're not scared she'll fly off and never return, Iggy?"
"Not in the slightest," the tactician answered without hesitation. "The bond we share is unquestionable."
"In other words, you both like each other so much you stick together," Gladio smirked with a chuckle.
""Like" is not a plausible word to describe the bond between (Y/n) and I," Ignis corrected the shield. "What we share is far beyond "like"."
"Just saying how I see it."
The advisor's eyes narrowed at him. He wanted to question him, but he walked off before he could. With a sigh, he shook his head and followed after his friends.
During the car ride back to Galdin Quay, (Y/n) was in the backseat with Noctis and Gladio. Descending the windy road leading to their destination, she shoved her head into the prince's pocket, startling him. "H-Hey, (Y/n)!" Looking down, he saw her head pop out of his pocket with the fragment of garnet in her mouth. He wondered what she was going to do with it until he watched her fly out of the car and towards Galdin Quay. "Someone's impatient..."
The skvader was indeed impatient. She was eager to relax on the beach and that would only happen as soon as she could sneak away from the group and transform. She thought delivering the garnet to Dino herself would speed up the process. Why? She wasn't exactly sure.
Landing on the bench beside Dino, she placed the stone down and nudged it towards him with her nose. He picked it up, examining it closely to ensure it was what he asked for. A mix between a smirk and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Would yous look at that? Just what I asked for!" He immediately got to work creating his newest piece of jewelry. (Y/n) watched in amazement as he turned the small stone into a beautiful bracelet with what supplies he had with him. Once he was done, he admired his craftsmanship. "Gotta say, this is my best piece so far."
Just then, the boys arrived. Dino reveals his newest creation to them and handed it to Noctis. "Nice work, kid! Sorry for giving you such a hard time. I just had to get my hands on this, even if it meant blackmail. You understand, don't ya? Y'see, I'm a reporter by day, and an amateur jeweler by night. This elusive little beauty's gonna become a masterpiece. To make it up to you, I'll share a little scoop. That special coin you got-it commemorates the Oracle's ascension. That guy was tossing 'em out to everyone. Musta picked 'em up back in Niflheim. And speaking of freebies, here's one from me. Come back if you wanna buy more!"
Ignis eyed the fine piece of jewelry as Noctis accepted it from Dino. "I doubt a souvenir like that could make its way into the hands of an ordinary citizen."
"Well, it's our pocket change now," Prompto commented.
"As promised, I'm in the process of securing your ferry tickets right now. Told ya, I'm a man of integrity. Should be smooth sailing from here, so lemme know when you're ready to ship out," Dino stated.
The prince crossed his arms. "We've been ready."
"Guess I should've expected that," the reporter cackled. "The ship won't arrive 'til tomorrow! How 'bout you find a place to spend the night?"
Prompto glanced around at his friends. "Do we even have the money to spend the night?"
"We could always go camping instead," the brute spoke up.
"We do have the funds to secure a hotel room. Although, it will be the only one for a while until we procure more funds," Ignis explained.
"No way I'm camping if we can afford a hotel room," Noctis said. "You guys go do that. I'm gonna do some fishing."
"Can't let His Highness go alone," Gladio stated. "I'll go with you."
"Me too!" Prompto waves his hand in the air. "I wanna take pictures of the beach!"
"Then (Y/n) and I shall make arrangements," the advisor informed the others. Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto left the docks to head to the beach. Ignis and (Y/n) headed towards the rooms available inside the restaurant and paid 10,000 gil for one. They entered the large, beautiful room where the spirit changed forms. She sat on the edge of the bed for a few seconds before flopping down on her back. Her (h/c) locks fanned out across the sheets as she stared up at the ceiling.
"Feeling enervated?" Ignis questioned as he had been watching her.
"A little," she confessed. "Sleeping has been difficult to do ever since we left the city. Even napping is difficult."
"Something plagues your mind?" He inquired.
"Nothing like that, but..." The sapphire-eyed girl sat up. She placed her hands in her lap, staring at the floor. "I hear a voice in my sleep, and even sometimes when I'm awake. I've tried to push it aside as nothing, but something tells me I need to listen. Maybe I'm finally going crazy."
"Shall we investigate this voice?"
She shook her head. "No, don't worry about it." Standing up, she walked over to the windows, which made up one entire wall of the room. She admired the beautiful, glistening ocean for some time. She then focused on her reflection in the window. Alongside herself, she saw Ignis sitting down in one of the chairs. He was flipping through the book that held all his recipes. With a huff, she spun around. Her heels clacked against the floor as she walked towards the door.
Ignis looked up the moment she strolled past him. Looking over his shoulder, he called out to her. "(Y/n), where are you heading?"
"The beach. I've been dying to relax ever since we first came here. It'll also help me sort out my thoughts," the guardian replied.
"What of the others?"
"They won't know it's me." She opened the door. "I'll be back soon, Iggy."
Stepping out of the room, she closed the door behind her. Walking through the Mother of Pearl, she could already feel eyes on her as she sauntered by many people. She tried her best to ignore the stares, knowing not many people have seen a guardian due to their scarcity. She clamped a hand over the sapphire gemstone embedded in her chest. She held her breath and sped up her pace so she could reach the exit quicker.
(Y/n) exhaled heavily. She dropped her hand from her chest the moment she was walking across the long boardwalk. She thought she was in the clear, but her eyes widened when she saw Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto were already on their way back. She thought they would've been gone longer. Pushing her thoughts aside, she looked away from them and prayed to the Astrals they would simply stroll past her. However, her prayer went unanswered. The moment her eyes locked with Prompto's, her body tensed. She immediately looked away and continued walking. As she walked past the blonde, she did force herself to look back at him and offer a kind, shy smile.
What she didn't see was Prompto's wide-eyed expression. His jaw was unhinged, hanging in disbelief. He nearly dropped his camera because of the shock he was in. Gladio also took notice of (Y/n), not recognizing who she was. He crossed his arms with a smirk as his eyes watched her head to the beach. "Now there's a woman."
Wondering who his friends were staring at, Noctis looked at the guardian. Just by looking at her, he could feel a sense of familiarity but pushed it aside since he didn't recognize her. He looked away and saw Prompto and Gladio still had their eyes focused on her. "Why're you guys staring?"
"Dude, are you seriously that blind?" Prompto gasped. "We just came across another goddess! That's two in two days!"
"If you're so interested, go talk to her."
"M-Me?"
Gladio smacked him on the back. "Go for it, pipsqueak. If you fail, I'll take over."
"I'll try...."
Meanwhile on the beach, (Y/n) took her heels off and walked across the sand. She didn't mind the sand sticking to the bottom of her tights since she could easily brush it off later. She admired the lapping waves and the various fish swimming around. The salty breeze blew through her (h/c) locks, a sensation she came to enjoy. Even the sun's warmth against her skin felt different. She wasn't sure what it was about the beach that made the sensation different from anywhere else.
A few peaceful minutes ticked by before (Y/n)'s attention was drawn by a small 'click' and a flash. Looking to her left, she saw Prompto with his camera raised. Her eyes widened in surprise at seeing him. She could even see the faint blush on his cheeks, not sure if it was from the sun or embarrassment.
"I-I'm so sorry!" He quickly apologized. "I-I should've asked before taking your picture."
The guardian smiled, desperately trying to suppress her shyness. Morosely, she wasn't successful. "I-It's okay. Is, um...is there something I can help you with?"
The boy shook his head. "N-No, I just thought y-you were really beautiful and it's my job a-as a photographer to capture everything beautiful."
Her smile widened at his pure heart. "That's very sweet of you."
Prompto quickly looked away, his blush deepening. "S-Sorry to bother you."
Before she could reply, he stormed off. She watched him run all the way to the Mother of Pearl, blinking in surprise at how fast he was sprinting. She hadn't expected Prompto to say such a kind, sweet thing to her. Now it was going to be awkward when she would introduce herself to him and the others in the near future.
Sighing, she combed her slightly disheveled hair behind her ears. She closed her eyes for a few minutes, listening to the waves as they lapped against the white sand of the beach. Just like before, her blissful moment was cut short when sensing the presence of another. This time, she was all-too-familiar with the presence and knew who it was before even looking. "Come to join me, Iggy?" Turning her head, she met his emerald gaze. Unlike with Prompto, she didn't stutter. Ignis was the only person she wasn't shy around because of how long they'd been together.
"I have," the strategist answered. "Although under false pretenses."
(Y/n) looked off in the distance and saw Noctis, Prompto, and Gladio watching them closely from the parking lot. They were trying to hide themselves behind one of the vehicles parked. "Oh, no... Is this their plan?"
"More of Gladio's than Noct's or Prompto's."
She placed her heels in the sand. "Is this another bet to see if you can get a woman?" It wouldn't have been the first time the boys had forced Ignis to speak to a woman to see if he did have any charm.
He pinched in the bridge of his nose. "Indeed..."
(Y/n) reminisced in the many memories she's made with him. "Now that I think about it, you never did bring home anyone. I know you're really serious about your dedication to Noctis, but that doesn't mean you don't have time for your own life. Your happiness matters, too."
Ignis casted his gaze to the ocean. He already knew why he hadn't brought home anyone, not even during his high school years. While he had been occupied with juggling school and his duties to the Crown, he always found time for himself in order to keep his sanity in check. Unlike many people his age who were bringing home a special someone, he didn't have to go search for someone who captured his heart. The young woman beside him already captivated his heart without her knowing. He'd been infatuated with her for many years now, but he kept his true feelings bottled up. He was frightened she wouldn't want him in return and even if she did, he was worried he couldn't commit himself fully to the relationship being the advisor of the prince. He didn't want her to feel as if she came second because of his duties.
What Ignis didn't know was that she already felt second in his heart. Ever since formally becoming Noctis' advisor, she was no longer first in his world. She was placed on the back-burner, knowing her life wasn't as important as Noctis'. In her mind, she was disposable. The prince wasn't. Just like Ignis, (Y/n) kept her deepest emotions buried in the darkest corner of her heart. She admired his conviction to his position, not angered in the slightest when she was no longer the most important person to him.
"Ignis?" The guardian gently called out his name after a prolonged silence.
The advisor reconnected his gaze with hers. "Yes?"
"You will find your own happiness, won't you?"
"I will in due time. As should you, (Y/n)."
She didn't care about her own happiness, only his. Faking a convincing smile, she nodded. "I'm sure I will find that special someone soon." It was a bitter lie on her tongue. She clutched the hem of her dress, bunching up the fabric before releasing it. Bending down, she grabbed her heels. Her eyes drifted over to the other boys, smirking slightly when seeing their flabbergasted expressions. "I think we can safely assume you win this bet. Make sure Gladio pays his dues. I'll see you back in the hotel room." She went to walk past him, but stopped. She decided to add a little spice to the mix and kissed him on the cheek. With a prideful smirk, she glanced one last time towards the trio hiding behind a car. "That'll give them something to talk about."
Ignis watched (Y/n) as she slipped on her heels and left the beach. He placed a hand on his hip, remembering how soft her lips were against his cheek. She'd kiss him like that many times before, but this time it felt different. He wasn't sure why, though. From where he stood on the beach, he could hear Prompto's wails of disbelief. He could hear him complaining about how he was able to score a kiss on a cheek from the girl before she left. His own smirk tugged at the corners of his lips, but it never came to fruition. (Y/n) truly did stir up the pot with such a simple action. Now, he would have to spin a tale to prevent the others from figuring out who she truly was.

okay, i'll be honest, i don't really watch george much. the only exposure i have to the dream team is manhunts and what little lore there is. which means it was a bit of a challenge to create builds that accurately reflected them, but it also meant i could do whatever the fuck i wanted! so for george i went with one of my favourite subclasses, and one that works well for george's mushroom association: spore druid. i gave him a level of monk mostly for the unarmoured defense and weapon attacks, which work well with the spore druid's melee focus while leaving him free to have a shit ton of spells from druid! druid/monk of one of my favourite multiclasses. i went with half elf cause it's kind of a middle ground without being just a variant human, and urban bounty hunter is from working with dream and sapnap while also playing into the manhunt thing.
design wise i really struggled for this one. i just didn't have a focus for it! i tried out a cloak similar to phil's and a big floppy hat, both to go with the mushroom theme, but it just looked shit. colouring didn't help, so i scrapped the whole thing and decided to stick with what i knew: vaguely fantasy formalwear. the gas mask was the only thing i kept from the original design - i wanted something a bit more interesting than just glasses, and it works with the spore druid's halo of spores, at least thematically. it also makes him seem a little bit mysterious and strange, and if there's one thing i know about george it's that he is confusing and unknowable. so it works. this is one of the more simple designs i've done, but it's still nice!

Myanmar: Vast arsenal and notorious troops deployed during nationwide ‘killing spree’ protest crackdown – new research
The Myanmar military is using increasingly lethal tactics and weapons normally seen on the battlefield against peaceful protesters and bystanders across the country, new research by Amnesty International has revealed.
By verifying more than 50 videos from the ongoing crackdown, Amnesty International’s Crisis Evidence Lab can confirm that security forces appear to be implementing planned, systematic strategies including the ramped-up use of lethal force. Many of the killings documented amount to extrajudicial executions.
Footage clearly shows that Myanmar military troops - also known as the Tatmadaw - are increasingly armed with weapons that are only appropriate for the battlefield, not for policing actions. Officers are frequently seen engaging in reckless behavior, including the indiscriminate spraying of live ammunition in urban areas.
‘We are frontliners’: Youth brave bullets and arrest to keep protests alive
While the early street protests against the February 1 military takeover remained largely peaceful, attracting people from all strata of society, the police and army have violently broken up more recent demonstrations, killing more than 70 so far. This has whittled down protests to younger, more daring groups engaging in cat-and-mouse games with security forces: making tactical retreats and reassembling the moment forces move on. To avoid death, injury or arrest, they have had to quickly adopt new methods and tools.
Mayangone Township resident Ko Phyo Tin, 25, who joins the Kyun Taw protest group every day, uses a shield improvised from a piece of steel as protection against rubber bullets and live rounds, and dons a Chinese-made combat helmet.
“Most of us are using protective equipment made in China. We don’t trust its quality but we have no alternative,” he said, adding that the group would gladly accept donations of quality gas masks, hard hats and body armour.
Women have also taken up positions as “frontliners”, the protesters bearing the brunt of the police and army assaults and shielding those behind them. They include Ma Thu Thu, 23, a founder of a team of frontliners that operates in Hlaing and Kamaryut townships, where such groups proliferate.
Thu Thu said her team comprises a core group of more than 10 people that is supported by about another 50 volunteers, who have learned from the street tactics used in dissident movements overseas.
“I saw the protests in Hong Kong and they gave me ideas about how we could defend ourselves,” said Thu Thu, whose small frame belies a capacity to endure gruelling confrontations with security forces.
She has been protesting against military rule since February 6 and is increasingly convinced that the people need protection from the lethal force police and soldiers used against striking dockworkers in Mandalay on February 20, when security forces fired live rounds on a crowd of more than 1,000 demonstrators at a shipyard, killing two and injuring dozens.
On February 26, Thu Thu watched a violent crackdown by police on big crowds of protesters at the Myanigone and Hledan junctions in Yangon.
“Police opened fire to disperse protesters, who fled in chaos. Some were arrested. When I saw that, I thought we needed to be able to protect protesters during demonstrations planned for February 28, Milk Tea Alliance Day,” she said, referring to a loose alliance of pro-democracy movements in Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and now Myanmar.
“I posted [these thoughts] on Facebook and one of my friends said she would donate 30 shields. I talked with some of my male friends and we decided to volunteer as frontliners,” she added.
“When we first started posting [about our plan], about a hundred people contacted us [wanting to join]. Members of our group are from many different townships in Yangon.”
Myanmar junta hires Israeli intelligence veteran for international lobbying campaign
Defense Minister Mya Tun Oo retained Ari Ben-Menashe and his Montreal-based Dickens & Madson Canada to “assist in explaining the real situation in the country,” according to a consultancy agreement dated Thursday. The firm is tasked with lobbying Congress and the Joe Biden administration as well as the governments of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Russia in addition to the United Nations, the African Union and other international organizations and NGOs.
The firm is expected to file a formal lobbying contract with the US Department of Justice early next week, Ben-Menashe said in a telephone interview Friday morning from Myanmar, where he’s wrapping up his second trip in the past few weeks. He said the contract was for a “big amount” but declined to get into specifics.
(Update: Dickens & Madson said the contract with Mya Tun Oo was for $2 million in a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) disclosure filed Monday, March 8 with the US Department of Justice. The amount is to be paid  “when legally permissible by controlling jurisdictions” since the minister and other military leaders are under US sanctions.
“Within the United States, Registrant will provide advice and counsel to the foreign principal and advocate before the executive and/or legislative branches of the government of the United States to seek support and humanitarian aid for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and to strive for the removal or modification of current sanctions,” the lobbying disclosure states. “Additionally, Registrant proposes to provide media and public relations services to further the country’s goals and activities. Registrant also provides lobbying services to the foreign principal in other countries.”)
Ben-Menashe indicated that he plans to present the country’s military rulers as a counterweight to alleged growing Chinese influence in the country under Aung San Suu Kyi, the government leader whose National League for Democracy swept legislative elections in November. The Burmese military declared the elections to be illegitimate on Feb. 1 and deposed Suu Kyi and President Win Myint, sparking international condemnation.
“Aung San Suu Kyi moved toward China while she was in power,” Ben-Menashe said. “And these guys [in the military] don’t like it.”
He added that officials in Saudi Arabia and the UAE had offered to assist with the return of Rohingya Muslims, almost a million of whom have fled to neighboring Bangladesh in recent years amid what the United Nations have labeled a campaign of genocide. Ben-Menashe said he had advised the country’s rulers in the 1990s and warned at the time against having Suu Kyi in the government, claiming she had shown anti-Muslim animus.
“Aung San Suu Kyi as leader was the one who did in the Rohingyas, not the army,” he insisted.
Democratic shadow government taking form in Myanmar
Myanmar’s banking system, always feeble, looks close to collapse. With banking havens for the junta’s finances, namely the US and Singapore, restricting capital flows, the Biden administration’s freeze on $1 billion of Myanmar’s US-held assets and an ongoing national boycott of military-affiliated businesses, the junta’s finances are being squeezed.
All this definitely means the junta’s strategy of carrying on with business as usual has gone out the window and makes large-scale violent escalation likely.
The writers disagree with the view that the disparate Civil Disobedience Movement can win by sheer power of will and personal sacrifice. Look at the numbers: In some ministries, such as health and education, participation in the movement is substantial, with estimates that a third of staff are actively involved. In others, it is much smaller.
Some 600 policemen are said to have defected so far. Overall, the number of Civil Disobedience Movement participants is likely in the tens of thousands, out of a million or so civil servants across the country.
The junta is cracking down hard. Participating civil servants have been suspended by the junta, with some losing their pay and benefits and others potentially charged with treason.
One senior civil servant told us: “I really want to participate in the civil disobedience campaign but I have to take care of my family – we rely on my salary [and] the housing provided by the department.”
One month on, the story of Myanmar’s coup has become a tale of two governments, the junta and the acting administration of the Committee Representing the National Parliament (CRPH), a group of MPs mostly from Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
With many of its members including Suu Kyi detained and least one who has died in the junta’s custody, the democratically-elected NLD has been hit hard by the coup.
“We cannot operate as a political party right now. [The junta] seized our leaders… Our party headquarter is closed. But we are trying to connect with our party members,” Phyo Zeya Thaw, NLD Central Committee Member, told the writers.
The CRPH has sought to challenge the junta while running and hiding. It has already announced a public administration program that established local councils led by MPs and loyal local officials to run affairs in Myanmar’s 360 townships in competition with the junta.
Preliminary data from a survey we are conducting on this parallel governance bid suggest that early success is mixed: In parts of the country, the NLD’s grassroots networks have been able to set up structures, in particular in Yangon, Mandalay and Sagaing regions, all part of the NLD’s heartland. In other townships, the junta has the upper hand.
Significantly, the CRPH is now putting itself firmly at the head of the disparate civil disobedience movement. On its website, the CRPH is registering civil servants participating in CDM who it will provide support.
It has also formed an ”acting administration” of acting ministers. They will cover all portfolios of the toppled NLD government until a new unity resistance government is formed.
To form this unity government, the CRPH is competing with the junta in reaching out to both civil society leaders and to ethnic political parties and ethnic armed groups. The success of these overtures may decide the ultimate fate of Myanmar’s coup.
Two other resistance organizations, a General Strike Committee and a General Strike Committee of Nationalities, that sprung up to organize a general strike in February are still organizing protests and strikes independently.
Business revolt brewing in coup-crippled Myanmar
Western business groups, namely European, American, British, Italian and French chambers of commerce, rejected the regime’s invitation to meet on March 4. At the same time, major Asian business groups such as the Thai, Hong Kong, Japanese and Chinese have not released any statements of concern since the coup and lethal crackdown on protesters.
The Western chambers’ refusal comes at a time of widespread and rising condemnation against the regime’s brutal crackdown on unarmed protesting civilians, with more than 50 killed as of March 3, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), an independent monitoring group.
Australian business group AustCham Myanmar said on Wednesday it has “serious concern over the increasing use of violence against the people campaigning for a return to democratic Government in Myanmar.”

extra layers
not strictly necessary, but cool:
leaf blower
plastic drums or plywood (for shields)
gasmask
gloves (heat resistant or gardening)
hockey stick
steel toed shoes (every time i wear sneakers, i trip on a curb during a rush and stub my toe. i do not usually trip while wearing boots. YMMV)
if they put up a fence, fill it with insulation foam
silly string and bouncy balls were funny, but not effective
those bulk orders of squeaky pig toys, though, lasted for months and probably had a significant demoralizing effect
a chain and a blowtorch (i have NO idea what you might need these for ❤️)
problematic trends:
goggles. you do not want the kind that only go over your eye, these can pop your whole eye out if you get hit in the face. get the ski mask type that goes over your whole face and nose. i tried both a gaskmask and goggles and stuck with neither of them, because it's easier to just withstand the gas, rather than deal with hearing and seeing clearly under a mask or goggles. you really should have some kind of eye protection for shrapnel, but i've just been wearing my glasses and hoping nothing comes at me from the side
if you take your phone, on, with wifi enabled, they can grab your IMSI number and call you. if you take your phone with wifi off, they can't call you, but they can track anything within range. if you take your phone while it's off, they can take data from the time while it was off only if you get caught. nevertheless, my recommendation is to both adapt to going phoneless, and generating dummy data while you're gone, so it looks like both your phone and your computer are intermittently active at home while you're out. there are ways to automate this (a browser extension that performs random searches), or you can leave a playlist or streaming service playing on mute. phone dummy data is trickier but if you remove your screen lock and play an "idle clicker" type game, you can generate a surprising amount of data by just leaving it sitting there charging with the app open and the screen on
cash. i think it's risky to go out without a card, in case cash isn't accepted somewhere. i think the risks of going to a convenience store and paying with cash, vs paying with a card, are similar -- you're on the security footage either way, same with the bus, but they would have to be investigating you specifically in order for this to pose a risk. so, something to consider, but probably unlikely. if you don't take ID, write an emergency contact number on your arm in case you are hospitalized, but be prepared for the possibility that their number may be targeted for harassment
whether or not you want to strategize to be able to change into a completely different, less conspicuous outfit, is probably based on local circumstances. it's probably not necessary to change most of your clothes, but the helmet is the hardest thing to hide, take a big backpack
if people start fighting, or being suspicious (like infiltrators), late at night especially, just walk away from them. it doesn't usually help to get involved, unless you're REALLY good at deescalation
nobody with a telephoto lens is up to any good

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ep 2
Spoilers!
Last week Bucky was a terrible patient and his new BFF is the father of a guy he killed while he was the Winter Soldier (so super healthy), Sam gave up Cap's shield and returned home to try to help salvage the family business (that went poorly), and some — I guess he must be from the Defense Department — dick made a big speech about needing heroes and he gave the shield to some goober (John Walker, but he'll always be Goober to me) in a Cap suit who strongly reminded me of Langly from the Lone Gunmen. (I'm not familiar with the actor, so I don't know what he actually looks like, but the helmet and the camera angle did him no favors at all, I'm just saying. Super punchable.)
Oh, and Sam has an adorable little minion named Lt. Torres who is getting himself into trouble with some weirdass terrorist group who like to slap red handprints on everything.
Zemo's out there lurking, too, but we haven't seen him yet.
I'm still slightly dazed that this show is real and we get to watch it.
Ep2: The Star-Spangled Man
Weird slow-mo opening shot of a close up of somebody unzipping their jacket. I mean. Okay. (Ohhh, it's the garment bag the Cap suit is in.)
And then we're on to Goober, he's wearing BDUs and he's in a football locker room (maybe high school?), fondling the lockers. He peels a name sticker off one, and underneath it says JW 10. A woman comes in and asks if he's reliving his glory days. They yada yada I don't care.
Now I guess they're talking about him becoming Captain America. "Everybody in the world expects me to be … something. And I don't want to fail them." She tells him to be himself and that they're gonna love him. Well, I've already decided he's a goober. I mean, he might not be, but he's got a hill to climb with me.
He spends a few seconds trying out his Captain America voice, then his buddy Hoskins comes in to talk him through it and give us some exposition. "Two weeks ago we were prepping for a special ops mission to Chile and now this."
Goober whines about how it's been handshakes and meetings and senators and whatnot and he just wants to get to it. But his buddy is all, that's part of the job man. Gotta glad-hand, too. You big baby (he doesn't say that part).
"You can't just punch your way out of problems anymore." Well, I mean, I think that was Steve's MO, mostly. That and 'hit it with the shield until it stops moving'.
Nu Cap is making a big showy thing at a rally at his old high school (Custer's Grove HS, GA) stadium for Good Morning America. He's still looking punchable in that helmet. But, they do bring out a kicking marching band, so there's that. It's a boring GMA interview. I don't care.
"John Walker, first person in American history to receive three Medals of Honor. Ran RS-One missions in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue. The government did a study of your body at MIT and you tested off the charts in every measurable category — speed, endurance, intelligence." (I legit laughed out loud. Lookit Captain Gary Stu over here)
Blah blah super humble yada yada. Just wants to make people feel safe, he has sooooo much respect for Steve Rogers, yada. Look, he could be a great guy and maybe I'll warm to him. But not yet!
Back in Brooklyn, Bucky's watching this and his face is all "No! No? What the shit is this? NO! NO? WHU NO?! No." Also, Bucky, I know you have a couch, why are you sitting on the floor? Love yourself just a little bit, dude.
In Louisiana Sam is in an Air Force hanger, staring at a garish 'Cap is Back' poster and looking a little queasy. Rhodey told you, subtly and not really directly, to not give up the shield, buddy. I hope when Bucky gets there the first thing he says is "He gave the shield to *you*, dummy. Not Captain Gary Poppins over there."
Torres says Nu Cap seems like a good guy. Sam's like, uh-huh, sure, so anyway. There's another "cap is back" poster and Sam's like 'ugh'. And they're off to Munich. I guess for the Flag Bros. Hey! There's Bucky! Finally, they're in the same scene. It's been nearly sixty minutes of screen time to get to this moment, Marvel. No, I wasn't counting.
"Shouldn't have given up the shield." lol. Hi Bucky! You forgot to call him a dummy.
Sam's like I haven't got time for this. And Bucky points to the umpteenth Cap is Back poster (seriously? Good lord.) "You didn't know that was going to happen?"
Sam did not know that was going to happen. "You think it didn't break my heart to see them march him out there and call him the new Captain America?"
Bucky will not let this go. "You had no right to give up the shield, Sam." You tell him!
But, Sam's kind of not in the mood. Look, I get it Sam, you didn't feel equal to the shield, but Steve gave it to you because he knows, my dude. Trust him. Come on.
But, he's feeling very raw about this, right now. "This is what you're not gonna do. You're not gonna come here in your overextended life and tell me about my rights." Well, ouch.
He says he's got bigger things to worry about, but that seems unpossible to Bucky "What could be bigger than this?" Terrorist douchebags wearing funny masks in Eastern and Central Europe. Well, fine, Sam; be all puts-things-in-perspective guy.
Redwing traced the far-too-strong maybe leader to a place in Munich. For some reason Bucky does not have good feelings about Redwing. Uh-oh, Bucky, you're going to extra hurt Sam's feelings.
Oh lol, it's the "Big Three" convo. "What big three?" "Androids, aliens, and wizards." Still funny. Sam's so proud of himself.
"I'm coming with you." "No, you're not." Bucky went with him.
Did they glare at each other the whole way to Munich? lol. I love this show so much already.
"Enjoy the ride, Buck." "No, you can't call me that." "Why not? That's what Steve called you." "Steve knew me longer. And Steve had a plan." lol, Steve Rogers never had a plan a day in his life.
Bucky wants a chute, but Torres who wisely stayed out of all of that, is like we're way too low for a chute. "I don't need it anyway." Then Bucky drama school bitch rips off the left sleeve of his jacket and jumps out while yelling like the dumbass he is. And he hits every branch of the dumbass tree on his way to the ground.
"I have all of that on camera, you know that right?" And Redwing zooms by to hovers over Bucky. So, maybe it's not a mystery why he doesn't like Redwing. lol.
Bucky and Sam meet up at a dilapidated warehouse in the middle of the forest. Only good things ever happen in dilapidated warehouses in forests. Like extra shady weapons smuggling. Bucky's gonna stalk after them. Sam messes with him a bit.
"Look at you all stealthy. A little time in Wakanda and you come out White Panther." lol. ilu Sam. "It's actually White Wolf." "Huh?" heh. What he won’t tell you, Sam, is that he earned the name from the kids near his goat farm who liked to spy on and giggle at the grumpy growly white guy.
"Hello. How are you?" "Great. What did I miss?" They're a delightful disaster! And they bicker and bicker and ahh, finally.
Also the people they're stalking are hella strong. And then these two idiots knock into an old bit of metal and make some noise. The shady people stop for a mo' but then move on. Sam scans one of the trucks the shady folks were loading (there are two), there's a figure sitting in the back. "There's an eighth person. I think they have a hostage." And Bucky zooms off! And Sam after him.
Bucky jumps onto the lead truck and then just like wanders around inside. I'm pretty sure the truck behind you noticed you, dummy. Anyway, it's loaded with crates marked "keep frozen." "They're stealing medicine. Vaccines." Those utter bastards. He spots a girl peeking out between containers. "Hi." lol, idiot.
He thinks it's the hostage, but I'm waiting for her to kick his butt out the door. She's not, you know, tied up in anyway. So … Also, again, does the second truck not have a radio to the first truck? Like was the driver texting while Bucky climbed up the back of the truck right in front of him? Now he's strangely incurious about the open door?
And, then she smiles at him and kicks him out the door, he hits the windshield of the second truck (maybe they've finally noticed you, Bucky!) and she puts on a mask with a red handprint. As you do. Two guys on the roof of truck 2, pull Bucky up ready to beat him silly.
Super strong girl, jumps over to truck two and punches Bucky some more. The Redwing zooms over and she jumps up, grabs it, and smashes it over her knee.
"I always wanted to do that," Bucky says, sad he didn't get the chance.
Sam shows up, there are more guys on the roof of the other truck. And there's fighting and fighting and then Sam is pinned down and the bad guy gets plonked with the shield and here comes Captain Poppins dropping down out of a helicopter. What timing. The CGI and green screen for this whole sequence are pretty dire. I'm sorry but it's true.
Captain Poppins is joined by his buddy Hoskins. "Sam. John Walker, Captain America." They know who you are, goober. Though, pausing to introduce yourself in the middle of the fight is a very Steve Rogers move, so points for that, Goober.
Lol, the look on Bucky's face when he catches the shield and Goober takes it from him. He's like 'rule two, rule two, rule two, remember rule two.'
Lots of fighting lots of fighting. Bucky is knocked off the side of the truck, he digs in and sort of zippers down the side, and then hangs off the bottom, his head inches from a tire, clinging to the underside by his vibranium arm. A bad guy stomps on it. Um, it's vibranium, guy. Like … though, somehow it works? and Bucky's arm sort of flops onto the road, sending up sparks. Sam does a neat little move, flies under the two trucks, grabbing Bucky as he goes, and knocking them both free.  None of that worked out particularly well, guys.
"Could have used that shield," Bucky says helpfully. lol. "Those were all super soldiers, Sam." Well, bummer.
Back on the trucks, I think Hoskins is in trouble. Cap Goober is pulling himself back up. Hoskins is thrown from the truck, but Cap Goober tosses the shield and Hoskins lands on that. Now Goober squares off against super soldier chick. He does not fare well. And he's thrown from the truck to land on the windshield of a following car. You know, if I'm driving down the road and I see people fighting on a pair of big rigs, I don't follow close. You know what I'm saying? I maybe pull over and let them get way far away from me. Anyway, sorry for your body damage.
Bucky and Sam walk along the road, a pair of sad sad heroes who did not have a plan.
"I'm sorry about Redwing." "No, you're not."
Cap Goober turns up in a sorry looking vehicle of some sort. "So that didn't go as planned." Bucky and Sam keep walking. lol
So Goober's vehicle keeps pace with the disaster duo. "We're pretty sure it's one of the Big Three."
Bucky: "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS WIZARDS!" That's his hill, he'll die on it.
Since it's super soldiers, and that's bad news, Cap Goober thinks they should work together. Sam's quiet but not thrilled. Bucky is not quiet. "Just 'cause you carry that shield, it doesn't mean you're Captain America."
Cap Goober has apparently jumped on a grenade 4 times. "It's a thing I do with my helmet. It's reinforced." Okay, I laughed.
He persuades them to ride with him, because it's like 20 miles to the airport. It's probably for the best, since I'm pretty sure they might try to strangle each other in five.
"They (Flag Haters Anonymous) say their mission is to get things back to the way they were during the blip." This group's goals are so hazy and weird.
oh, lol. Sam wanted to know how they tracked the Flag Smashers, and Hoskins is like, um, actually, we tracked redwing. "It's not exactly hacking," Captain Goober explains, "it's government property. We're kind of the government." Not winning any points, Goober.
Bucky's just glaring at him.  "Does he always just stare like that?" lol
We get a bit of exposition about a group called the GRC, the Global Repatriation Council, which is tasked with helping the previously blipped reintegrate. Sam's like, okay, and? Hoskins explains "they provide the resources, and we keep things stable." The GRC sounds even more make believe than super soldiers, to be honest. But, whatever. Not here to analyze the bizarre and unlikely geopolitics of the MCU. Cap Goober makes a pitch for Sam and Bucky to sign up but Bucky is very firm about his "No".
Hoskins insists he has mad respect for them, but they were getting their asses kicked until he and goober showed up. Um, Hoskins, my dude, you also got your ass kicked.
Bucky stares for a second. "Who are you?" "Lamar Hoskins." Sam insists he needs more than that. "I'm Battlestar. John's partner."
Bucky says Mm hmm. Stop the car. And he's gone.
Cap Goober gives a pitch to Sam about how he's not trying to be Steve, or replace him, he's just trying to do his best and be the best Captain America he can, and it'd be great to have Cap's 'wingmen' on his side. I sense sincerity, but you're still punchable, goober. And Sam isn't buying it either. He shakes his head and laughs bitterly, "It's always that last line." He hops out and follows Bucky.
Elsewhere, the super terrorists have reached a safe house with a way too chatty dude who is trying to make them at home in his dicey looking shopfront. He rattles on about how they're becoming legends and the people love them because they're pushing back! Against … the GRC? I guess?
Super soldier girl (Karli) gets a hate text. "You took what is mine. I'm going to find you and kill you." Well, sleep tight, sister!
One of the other guys has already logged into a computer system and he starts hacking and wiping their info off the internets and interpol, I guess.
"Six months ago would you have imagined people supporting a cause like this?" I'm still very unclear on what your cause is.
Maybe I'm overthinking the silly superhero universe, but I can't imagine the blip world was wonderful. You're missing half the people. So half of everybody who'd do various jobs. So half of the knowledge base of humanity on earth. Half of the experience base of humanity on earth. Half of the farmers, half of the engineers, half of the doctors, half of the people who maintain any system you can imagine, half of the people who build those systems, half of the teachers, half of the factory workers, half of the grandparents who pass down stories and community knowledge, half of the animals, half of the fish, half of the insects and so half of the plants. Ecosystems could easily collapse. Certainly infrastructure did, with half of the people needed to maintain it gone. Cities would have started to crumble, since half of the sources of goods, food, and services were gone. (we did have something of a real-world equivalent in Europe during the Black Death. Things were not nice for quite a long while after the worst years of the plague.)
I'm sure there would be areas that did better than others. But, half of any government gone, half of any police, half of any military. There would be power vacuums and probably shitheads to fill them. I don't see any particular utopia in a blip-ified world.
And that's not even taking into account the psychological damage to all the unblipped. The pure existential horror of half of everything suddenly gone.
But, that aside. I like genuinely do not know what they're trying to achieve.
"We're not playing no more," announces Karli. "We can't let the same assholes who were put back in power after the Blip win." Literally do not know what that means. "The GRC care more about the people who came back than the ones who never left." I mean … isn't that literally what they're for? "We got a glimpse of how things could be." Chaotic and apocalyptic? In fairness, I guess if you could carve out your own thing in that, and maybe it could even be good, then you'd be bitter if everybody came back all of a sudden and messed that up. I'm sure the power struggles are real.
"One world! One people!" Okaly-dokaly. Fascinated to see how you eight will achieve that.
Bucky's brooding on a plane, Sam's trying to sleep but the brooding is too much to ignore.
"You alright?" "Let's take the shield, Sam. Let's take the shield and do this ourselves." He's using his almost scary Winter Soldier voice. And staring into the void. Sam, call his doctor. She needs to remind him of rules one and two. "We can't just run up on a man, beat him up, and take it." Good point, Sam. For real, call Bucky's doctor. He's going to the scary illegal place.
"Do you remember what happened the last time we stole it?" "Maybe." lol such a petulant little grumpus you are, Bucky. "I'll help you in case you forgot. Sharon was branded an enemy of the state and Steve and I were on the run for two years." Not everybody was lucky enough to have a goat farm during all that, Bucky. That's what the man's saying.
"We just got our ass handed to us by super soldiers and we got nothing." "That's not entirely true," Bucky says mysteriously. And he jumps down off his brooding crate to go sit next to Sam. "There is someone that you should meet."
Baltimore, Maryland
Sam has a cute aside with a neighborhood kid, then Bucky leads him up to a house that has seen better days. Somebody answers the door and Bucky says they're there to see Isaiah. But, the young guy who answers the door insists there's no Isaiah there. He's not very welcoming. Bucky says "tell him the guy from the bar in Goyang is here." The things you got up to, Bucky. I do wonder. "We had a skirmish during the Korean war." oh, lol. I mean, I'm sure it's a horrible story, but lol, Bucky you disaster.
Oh hey, Carl Lumbly! Gosh, I haven't seen him in an age. I almost didn't recognize him.
"He was a hero. One of the ones that Hydra feared the most. Like Steve. We met in '51." "If by met, you mean I whupped your ass, then, yeah." lol
Isaiah says he took part of Bucky's arm in Goyang and he just wanted to see if it grew back. And if Bucky was there to kill him. Bucky says he's not a killer anymore.
"You think you can wake up one day and decide who you wanna be?" Well, sure. "It doesn't work like that." Oh, but it must, or else what's the point? Isaiah has a lot of reasons to be bitter, though.
"Isaiah, the reason we're here, is because there's more of you and me out there. And we need to know how."
This does not please Isaiah, who doesn't want to talk and throws a can of sardines (or something, I don't know what that was) through the wall. Old but still super solidery.
"You know what they did to me for being a hero? They put my ass in jail for 30 years." Um, wow. "People running tests, taking my blood, coming into my cell. Even your people weren't done with me." Well, that's deeply uncool. He very much wants his unwelcome guests to GFO, and I can't say I blame him.
Sam is super pissed once they get out onto the street. "Why didn't you tell me about Isaiah?" Bucky doesn't answer. "I asked you a question, Bucky." Yikes.
And no, Steve never knew, because Bucky never told him. "So you're telling me there was a black super soldier decades ago and nobody knew about it?" I guess so.
And we're interrupted by a bizarre random encounter with presumably racist cops. They stop them in the street, get weird about asking for ID, and then ask Bucky, "is this guy bothering you?" And Bucky's like what in the actual fuck, he looks like a high school chem teacher and I look like the muscle for a loan shark, "no he's not bothering me. Do you know who he is?" Oh to be the Winter Soldier again for just a moment, eh? Anyway, one of the dipshits recognizes Sam and they get all dipshitty apologetic. "oh, Mr. Wilson, we're so sorry."
Oh, lol, they're going to arrest Bucky. There's a warrant out for him, because he missed his therapy session. I told somebody to call his therapist! I want to know which of those dipshits ran Sam and Bucky for wants. Because that’s not automatic or some shit, somebody’s got to call it in.
Sam's like 'well that took a weird turn.'
Sam and Dr Raynor meet at whatever facility they’re holding Bucky. "Thanks for getting him out." "That was not me," the doctor assures him. Nope, it was Captain Goober, who greets the doctor with a wave. "Christina! It's great to see you again." lol. And Sam's day gets worse.
"I heard you were working with Bucky and thought I'd step in. Bucky's not going to be working on a strict schedule any longer."
She's like, uh what? Says who? And he points at himself. okay, again, lol. Though, it’s weird to me how he insists on calling Bucky ‘Bucky’, like they’re buddies. They’re not buddies. Bucky's going to punch him in the face.
"He's too valuable an asset to have him tied up. So just do whatever you've got to do with him, then send him off to me." Will Bucky turn around and go right back into his holding cell?
Dr's not going to let him. "James, condition of your release, session now. You too, Sam." "That's okay. I'll be out here with…" "That wasn't a request." Poor Sam. He has had THE WORST DAY.
I love Bucky slouching against the sergeant's desk all surly, like a 16 year old who got busted for boosting his grandmother's car.
Dr Raynor settles them all in what I assume is an interrogation room. She tells Bucky she just wants to help him get over whatever is eating at him. I guess she figures Sam could help with that, too?
"We're going to do an exercise. It's something I use with couples when they are trying to figure out what kind of life they want to build together." lol. but of course. a million fic writers deliriously rush to their keyboards.
"Are you familiar with the miracle question?" "Absolutely not." "Of course not." heh "Okay, it goes like this. Suppose that while you're sleeping, a miracle occurs. When you wake up, what is something that you would like to see that would make your life better?"
Bucky says his miracle would be Sam talking less. Sam says that's what he was going to say. Dr Raynor is writing fic of her own. "You guys are leaving me no choice. It's time for the soul-gazing exercise." This is the weirdest therapy session ever.
Bucky is very on board. Sam's like 'what have you done? staring? that's his thing!'
"Let's do it. Let's stare. This is a good exercise. Thanks, doc." Bucky, you little asshole. lol
How many takes to do this scene? I can tell they're trying not to laugh. "Take 57. It's 1:30 am, guys. Please, can we get it this time?"
"Wait, what are you doing? Are you having a staring contest?" What about these two men's attitudes walking into the room suggested they were going to be at all mature about this, Doc?
"James, why does Sam aggravate you? And don't say something childish." She knows you too well, Buck.
Oh, Bucky. He wants to know why Sam gave up the shield, because Steve believed in him, gave him the shield for a reason. But, maybe Steve was wrong about Sam and if he was wrong about Sam, then he was wrong about Bucky.
Sam, has his reasons. He says maybe Bucky and Steve can't understand, but he wants to know if Bucky can accept that he did what he thought was right. Poor Sam.
And Sam's had enough. He says they've got bigger shit going on and he'll put whatever this issue is aside for now, and they'll go take care of that, and then he and Bucky can never see each other again. "Thanks doc, for making it weird. I feel much better."
She's like, well shit.
Bucky leaves as well, but she stops him. "I know that look. What's wrong?" "What was rule two again?" "Don't hurt anyone." "Goodbye, doc."
I think maybe she miscalculated a tiny bit.
"I feel better," Sam grumbles. "I feel awful," Bucky sighs.
And down the street Captain Goober and Hoskins starts chirping a police siren at them and they wave them over. "Gentlemen!" I really want Bucky to punch him just once.
Goober wants them to join forces. They're tracking Karli through various displaced communities in Europe.  She's the flag stompers leader, I guess? She's like … 16. DOUBT.
Anyway, she's do-goodering by stealing medicine and taking it to the displaced camps. I'm confused. So, post-blip, people who'd not blipped are now suddenly being displaced? I thought the displaced where the blipped trying to reintegrate. But, she was mad at the GRC for only caring about the blipped not the unblipped (which, again is the GRC's raison d'être, so yes?). I feel like I'm missing something.
Bucky snarks at Goober a bit. He's not a fan at all. "Things are really intense for you, aren't they, Walker?"
Sam's like okay, let's all simmer down. "It is imperative that we find them and stop them." But, also, though, he and Bucky are free agents, so they're more flexible than mister "i'm the government" over there.
Captain Goober doesn't care for that. "Word of advice, then. Stay the hell out of my way." Don't push your luck, goober.
Bratislava, Slovakia
Flag Stompers loading a small plane. Uh oh, they've been found out! Karli asks how much time they have. "None. It's the Power Broker's men." The Power Broker. See, that's the kind of jackassery you get in a Blip scenario. That's what I'm talking about. Did you steal super soldier serum from this guy, Karli? Hmmm? One noble Flag Stomper offers to stay behind and hold them off while they make their escape, for One World! One People! Dream big, kid.
He knocks down a power pole to block the road but then he runs at the badder guys? And gets himself shot a zillionty times. I … he'd already blocked the road? Why not just … you know what? Never mind.
Back to Bucky and Sam and Bucky with an idea that might just be worse than the self-sacrificing Flag Stomper's run-at-the-badder-guys-for-great-justice idea. He suggests that perhaps somebody who knows all of Hydra's secrets can give them the answers they need.
"So you're just going to go sit in a room with this guy?" "Ye-… yes," Bucky says, absolutely oozing with confidence.
Off to see Zemo! I'm sure that will go terribly! Can't wait!
And Credits!
Not gonna lie. I'm not sure how I feel about this episode. It felt a little disjointed.
I don't get the Flag Munchers, but I'm thinking they're just a red herring. Because they're basically utopian idealist twelve-year olds with nice but vague goals and vague iffy means to achieve those goals. I don't feel they're a whole lot more than some misguided kids who grew up in a blipped world and change is difficult and scary (and I’m sure it’s probably managed poorly. I can’t think of anything less efficient than a global council for anything. you could have a global council for dirt and it would be a bureaucratic nightmare). And they probably stole super soldier serum from somebody way scarier. Dummies. I think they're going to need to be rescued at some point. Probably soonish.
As for that other guy. There's moments where I like John Walker a little bit, and moments where I find him really aggravating. I get they want to make him the super-duper bestest perfectest hero, or that’s why he was chosen by the DoD or whatever, but part of Steve's charm was he wasn't perfect. He wasn't Captain America because he won a million awards, he was Cap because he had a good heart. That's the point. THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULD BE CAP, SAM!
Also, I don't like hard feelings between Sam and Bucky. Though, nothing about their history would suggest an easy friendship (one time Sam was driving in his car and Bucky ripped the damn steering wheel out), so that's not a complaint, it just makes me sad. They really only have a connection because of Steve and he's gone. Be friends, guys!
And finally, when will Sharon Carter return from being an enemy of the state?

TW: kidnapping, starvation, dehydration, weight loss, temporary character death (I mean it’s The Old Guard?), a bit of blood, mentions of violence.
AN: I didn’t know you could get cut off in the tags that’s never happened to me before apparently there’s a length limit.
For all her years, Andy cannot remember having felt purpose like this before. Knowing that her body no longer heals does nothing to dissuade her - if anything, it motivates her further. She may break, she may hurt but she now sees, as she hasn’t in centuries (maybe ever) that it is worth it.
Nile seems to accept her leadership, and follows it without question.
Nicky and Joe, however, draw on almost two thousand years of combined stubbornness trying to keep her from harm.
Nicky researches nutrition and tries to serve her balanced (boring, bland) meals despite her protests. Joe finds her the best available body armour (never mind how it moves). They both throw themselves in front of her at every possible opportunity. (This isn’t to say that Nile doesn’t, in the face of real danger - just that Nicky and Joe don’t seem to understand that she doesn’t need protecting from traffic or raccoons or hot oil on the stove).
She doesn’t think she’s been particularly careless - they vet jobs as they’ve always done, and now they have Copley to help. She’s not reckless, just filled with purpose, with vigour, with the need to do right. Besides, all her years have taught her that sometimes, despite best efforts, jobs go wrong.
It doesn’t entirely bother her that they’ve been locked up in a cell. It’s hardly the first time, after all. Besides, she has every faith in Nile and Joe and Copley to track them down.
What she does hate with every fibre of her being, is that Nicky is locked up with her.
He reassures her, because of course he does, that it isn’t her fault, just as she reassures him that it isn’t his.
They’ve been captured together before, they all have, really, and they know the routine. They have exhausted their options for escape, have tried at every opportunity, and have failed. All they’ve managed to do is maybe piss off their captors a little more than was strictly necessary. It isn’t in them to just give up and accept their predicament, though - they need to try everything first. Once they’ve done this, however, all that’s left to do is wait.
It’s all standard procedure, as far as standard procedure goes for a bunch of immortal warriors. Andy finds the way that criminals haven’t really changed the core of their modus operandi in decades more than a little tiresome. There’s an angry kingpin (with his fingers in many increasingly unconscionable pies) who doesn’t believe that nobody hired them, who scoffs at their insistence that there aren’t more of them, a selection of cronies and hired hands who are all too happy to try to beat the answers out of them, and a general limited amount of food, water, and warmth to make them extra miserable. Frankly, she’s bored with it.
Joe is coming. Nile is coming. They just have to bide their time, like every time this has happened before.
The one difference - the only difference - is that this time Andy is mortal.
Nicky (and Joe, her boys, her beloved boys) have always hated it when she put herself in danger, and even more so when she did it to protect them. But, until this point, they recognized her leadership and would defer to it. They accepted that this sometimes meant letting her take the brunt of their latest opponent’s anger if she felt it necessary to keep them safe, or to get them out of a sticky situation.
This time, however, there is no dissuading Nicky. No command, no proposed strategy will change his mind. Andy still puts up a fight, but eventually he turns those big, plaintive eyes on her and admits in a soft voice that the best way she can keep him safe right now is if she lets him take care of her - if she lets him stop them from doing something to her which cannot be undone.
Andy has never been able to say no to Nicky when he looks at her like that, and this time is no different.
So, she agrees. When their captors come in to see if they’re ready to talk, Nicky is the one who goads them, infuriates them. When they’re delivered pitiful meals, he refuses his half, begging with his soulful eyes.
I can starve, he says. You can’t.
I don’t need water, he says. You do.
Andy hates it. She doesn’t feel mortal, she feels the same as she always has. She feels strong, she feels enraged, she wants to protect her Nico. She wants to shield him from the world. She knows, logically, that after nine hundred years there isn’t much innocence left, but still he feels so young to her. They both do. They all do.
She thinks of the plea in his eyes, though, the desperation in his face as he silently begs her to stay behind him, to stay silent, to let him take it, and so she does.
She suspects it isn’t entirely quick tempers or even benevolence that has their captors keep taking Nicky’s bait, though - she suspects that the brighter among them recognize the look in her eyes - they see that by hurting Nicky they hurt her more than they could by beating her.
---
They lose track of time. There is no natural light in the room they are in, so they don’t really know how many days have passed. Andy isn’t sure if the room is getting colder, or if they’re maybe just getting weaker with lack of food. Perhaps both.
The first few days their captors try violence, but when neither of them cracks (and also as they seem to take out no small number of henchmen every time they are in the same room as them) they seem to settle on trying to starve the answers they want out of them. Nicky continues to insist on giving Andy his share, so while she doesn’t know exactly how many days it’s been, she knows it’s been long enough for Nicky to start looking grey with dehydration. She suspects he will die from it soon, but when she brings this up to him he just gives her a tired smile and reminds her that it’s fine if he does - he will come back. The only thing that seems to matter to him is that she doesn’t.
She’s miserable - cold and damp and hungry - but what hurts the most is watching Nicky waste away beside her.
---
They talk - or, at least, at the beginning they talk. As time goes on and Nicky grows weaker, it mostly becomes Andy talking while Nicky dozes (or lies unconscious, or dies and comes back) tucked into her side. It starts as discussions of possible means to escape (always in oldest languages they share, just in case anyone is listening), but when that seems to become increasingly hopeless, and as Nicky starts to lose the energy to hold his head up, Andy starts spending most of her time telling him her favourite stories of years gone by.
They (he - Andy reminds herself) might be immortal, but they are still human. Their bodies will heal, will regenerate but they need food and water to do so, so as Nicky fades and starts to die not only from lack of water but from starvation the deaths start to come closer and closer together. He will die from malnourishment, come back, and then, when his body realizes it still has no stores to draw from, still has no energy to heal itself with, he will die again.
Sometimes, when he is too out of it to protest, she tips small sips of water into his mouth. This tends to end up with him waking up enough to realize what she is doing, at which point he will turn tear-filled eyes on her and remind her that while he will come back from whatever physical trauma his body is put through, he will not be able to handle waking up to find her permanently dead beside him when he could have prevented it.
---
They move them once during their captivity. Having learned early on that entering the room while either of them is awake is dangerous, both times they accomplish the move by knocking them out with gas and transporting them while they’re unconscious. Andy comes to in a shipping container, bound with rope and alone. She makes quick work of the bindings before exhausting herself trying to find a way out. Nothing gives, no matter how hard she tries.
She loses time again. Perhaps more gas? Maybe her body just gave out? She isn’t sure, but when she wakes she and Nicky have been tossed in the same room again, carelessly dropped on the cold floor. There is blood on Nicky’s temple that wasn’t there before.
She wonders if their captors have realized that, no matter how much he bleeds, none of the marks linger on his skin. She hopes that the mess of dried blood he’s covered in is enough to mask the fact that he isn’t actually bleeding where he should be, because she doesn’t want to think about how their situation could get messier if they figured that out. Luckily, they seem to prefer keeping their distance (or perhaps they have just realized it is best for their own safety to not get too close).
Andy frees herself from her new bounds. Nicky stirs but doesn’t seem to have the energy to fully wake, so once Andy has repeated the process of checking their cell for potential means of escape (she doesn’t find any) she drags him to a corner of the room and, leaning against the wall, pulls him to her chest.
---
Someone comes to check on them what Andy assumes is once a day, with a bottle of water and some stale bread, or sometimes a can of soup and a demand for answers that they both don’t have and would never give anyway.
Nicky is barely more than skin and bones, a painfully fragile warmth (and sometimes lack thereof) in her arms. She is hardly any better, the food they get absolutely pitiful, but at least she hasn’t died of starvation. She isn’t the one who keeps coming to in stuttering huffs of air before inevitably going limp again - over and over and over.
---
Andy rouses from sleep. She’s hungry - hungrier than usual. She thinks they haven’t been fed in a while. Nicky is still slumped against her, his soft breaths puffing against her neck. She tiredly runs her hands through his dirty hair, brushing it back from his face as she wonders if they have given up on them entirely. She feels like it’s been too long, like they are overdue for food and questions, but she has no way of being sure. Maybe this day has just felt longer than the others. Maybe it’s been more than one.
The door opens with a clang. Andy doesn’t bother to look up, keeping her face buried in Nicky’s hair and keeping her own thin arms wrapped around his frail form as she holds him close on her lap. Even when she senses someone letting out a breath and dropping hard onto their knees beside her, she doesn’t look up. She would fight, but she doesn’t have the energy to. Maybe she could knock out this one with the remaining dregs of her strength, but then what? She doesn’t think she has it in her to fight her way out all while carrying Nicky, frighteningly light as he is at the moment.
Joe is coming. Nile is coming. They just have to wait.
A shaking hand meets hers where it is buried in Nicky’s hair. She flinches, but doesn’t pull away. The hand reaches across Nicky to tuck her own hair behind her ear. Initially she recoils, but then she takes a deep breath and tries to muster the reserves of her strength. The person is close. Maybe she could take this one out. She takes another breath, steeling herself. Her eyelashes brush against Nicky’s greasy hair as she blinks, her face still tucked down onto his head. She moves to look up but then she realizes that she knows that hand.
She knew that hand for millennia, but she hasn’t held it in hundreds of years.
She blinks, raising her head.
The world swims in front of her, and she blinks a few more times before it comes into focus.
She must be dreaming.
She hears shouting, sees the mouth in front of her moving but her brain doesn’t connect the sight with the sound. There’s the sound of running footsteps and Joe - or her mind’s conjured version of Joe - comes skidding around the corner, making a beeline for the three of them when he enters the room.
Suddenly, there are inexplicably warm hands pulling Nicky away from her. She clings tighter, clings with all the strength she has left as dream-Joe tries to take Nicky from her.
She huffs out a disgruntled protest, complains that this is my dream, why can’t you do what I want. I want him with me before burying her face back into Nicky’s hair and trying to let the dream take her somewhere else. Perhaps her subconscious can take them somewhere warm.
She doesn’t get the chance. Moments later, hands are prying Nicky from her arms and she finds that she doesn’t have enough strength to keep fighting back. She opens her eyes again to see the arms pick Nicky up, cradling him against a broad chest. She sees Nile enter the room, coming up to her with her hands raised before pausing in front of her and giving her a brief relieved smile before hauling her to her feet and pulling her arm across strong shoulders.
She doesn’t see anybody else.
Just Joe and Nile.
Joe and Nile have come.
---
She vaguely remembers stumbling through hallways, Nile hauling her uncooperative body along. Joe is just ahead of them, Nicky held close.
Their path out is clear.
Some of the guards have been cut down, some have been shot, others, inexplicably, have been struck with arrows. Nicky hasn’t used a bow in decades, Joe in even longer. She didn’t realize Nile knew how.
When they reach the getaway car Nile helps her into the backseat before climbing in after her, taking her hand tightly in both of hers. Joe gets in on the other side with Nicky still in his arms, maneuvering awkwardly, trying to avoid bumping Nicky against the door.
Andy leans her head on Joe’s shoulder, leaving her right hand in Niles’ as her left buries itself in Nicky’s hair. She breathes in the smell of Joe’s shirt, finally allowing the last remnants of tension to leave her body. She sees Booker get into the driver’s seat. They must have needed to call him in for backup. The passenger seat is empty. She supposes they’re a little cramped in the back, but she doesn’t want to let go of Nile and she isn’t sure she would be able to handle Nicky or Joe moving away from her. She relaxes completely against Joe’s side, and relief so strong it makes her want to cry overcomes her as he presses a kiss to her hair.
She sleeps.
The passenger side door opens and shuts.
The wheels squeal as the car pulls away.

synopsis → “Would you be willing to give me the amulet, my prince? Or will I have to rip it off you?”
word count → 6.9k
a/n → when i say i cannot believe i did this i MEAN THAT like i started this in FEBRUARY and here we are, wow! ok on a real note i’m not proofreading because, like always, it is 4 in the morning and i want to get 3 hours of sleep at the very least D: anyway i’ll rest well knowing this is done so plz enjoy!
“Do you ever get tired of looking for a treasure that could be fake for all we know? ‘Cause I sure do.”
“Quiet.”
You slouch down in your seat. “So mean, captain.”
Taeyong turns to glare at you, hoping it’ll get rid of the smirk on your face. “This mission is hard enough on its own, your commentary doesn’t make it any easier.”
You roll your eyes. “Would you rather we just sit here in complete silence ‘til we find the… gem or jewel or whatever it is?”
“It’s an amulet,” Taeyong corrects. “And yes, definitely.”
“Would you two knock it off?” says Jaehyun from the passenger’s seat.
“I say let them go at it,” Yuta murmurs, staring out the window, into the vast galaxy.
Jaehyun raises a brow. “Is watching your teammates argue amusing to you?”
Yuta shrugs. ‘We’re in the middle of space, what else is going to entertain me?”
You see Taeyong's grip on the steering wheel tighten. He was serious about this mission. His team? Not so much. The only person who seemed to back him up on everything was Jaehyun but that was given seeing how he was his second in command.
“Yuta.” Jaehyun's tone could rival a disappointed mother’s. “Could you at least try and be a little professional?”
The redhead scoffs. “There's nothing professional about this team. We’re a bunch of criminals.”
That was true. You all had bounties over your heads, a consequence for having committed countless crimes all over the galaxy. Taeyong was probably the one that was most serious about what he did, always doing things with vigor and determination, no matter how illegal it was. Jaehyun was the same way although he was a little more detail-oriented, focusing on little things rather than the big picture. He always polished Taeyong’s plans to perfection. They made a great duo and, in fact, for a while it had just been the two of them. Then they realized they needed a team to be able to execute their ambitious plans.
That’s where the rest of you came in.
They had told you they found Johnny first. That was no surprise. He was tall and muscular, impossible to miss. If Taeyong and Jaehyun were the brains, he was definitely the brawn. When they had first met, Johnny was doing nothing but getting in fights. He was always the bigger man, he always won. It seemed to give him a rush, defeating his opponent with ease. Taeyong and Jaehyun stroked his ego to no end, telling him he would be a perfect addition to the team they were forming. The praise was enough to convince him to join.
They found Yuta second but you were never told the full story. From what you had gathered, he had attempted to pickpocket Taeyong. You had no idea how that would've led to him joining the team but you found it incredibly hilarious. You assumed your relentless teasing was the reason why Taeyong wouldn’t tell you about it but it didn’t matter to you; everytime Yuta references it, you still laugh.
Lastly, there was you.
Meeting the boys was probably the most memorable thing that had happened to you. You still remember how Taeyong had wordlessly walked into the gas station—where you were working at the time—and held you at gunpoint with his face shielded only by a black ski mask. Before he could even demand you give him all the cash in the register, a dark blue haired male had rushed in. You can still remember the sequence of events like it was yesterday.
“Taeyong, what do you think you’re doing?”
“I thought I told you to stay on the ship, Jaehyun! And where’s your mask?”
Jaehyun ignores the second question. “I thought we had agreed to always form a plan before we steal something!”
Their argument is cut short by the bell on the door ringing as a tall, brunette male and a shorter bleach-blonde enter. You catch the way Taeyong sighs, “you have got to be kidding me” under his breath.
“Hey, Taeyong? Yuta and I were wondering if you could buy us some snacks.”
“Johnny and I have been on our best behavior so you owe us.”
“Jesus Christ.” Taeyong pinches the bridge of his nose over the fabric of the mask. “This is you on your best behavior? Interrupting my robbery for some snacks? The plan was I come in here, get the money, and you all thank me for being a good leader!”
“No wonder you need my help making plans, they're so unrealistic,” Jaehyun mutters.
Taeyong shoots him a glare. “Look, we’re running low on fuel, we barely even made it here. I thought if I acted fast I could just get the money and we'd be on our way.”
“Let’s just try that corner store a couple galaxies over. The guy behind the cash register is young. You think that kid will really say no to us?”
“That’s low.”
“Hasn't stopped us before.”
“I’m with Johnny. It'll be hilarious to see him pissing his pants the second Taeyong aims a gun at his head. Easy money.”
“You guys need serious help.”
“And yet you still hired us.”
“I’ll give you the money.”
Your statement ends the bickering between the four males. They stare at you in bewilderment and they’re stunned into silence as if they’re certain you’re pulling their legs. To prove yourself, you spin around and grab a brown paper bag that you usually used to put the customer’s liquor in and begin stuffing it full with all that was in the register.
You hear them whispering and mumbling but you just continue bagging the money as calmly as you would groceries. It takes only a couple seconds before the brown bag is overflowing with the pink bills that were only valid currency on the planet you were on. You wordlessly hand it to Taeyong.
He grabs it, holding it close to his chest and peering down at it, his eyes seeming to widen the longer it was in his arms. Jaehyun’s eyes darted between you and the bag like he was waiting for some sort of catch. Yuta and Johnny both cracked a smile, as if the unforeseen chain of events was comical to them.
“Happy?” you ask.
They all turn to you, the look in their eyes still skeptical but Taeyong, ever the leader, speaks for the team and gives you a nod.
“Good. Now I get to come with you.”
Johnny is the first to react, erupting into long and hard laughter. “Is that seriously what you want in return? To join a group of outlaws and run from the police?”
You give him a firm nod.
His laughter dies down. “Whatever you say. It’s your life, babe.”
You all watch as he walks out of the gas station, putting his shades on (despite it being pitch dark outside) and you’re sure he must feel like a million bucks knowing that you actually wanted to stick around them.
You turn back to the three others. Yuta grabs a handful of snacks from the shelf behind him, cradling the assortment of sweets, chips, and more. “Can I take these?”
You shrug. “Go for it.”
He smiles and you can't help but notice it’s healing aura. “Good to have you on the team.” He also makes way for the door.
You’re almost positive that his willingness to have you join their group came solely from you granting him permission to take the food.
Taeyong is the next to leave and he does it silently, offering you nothing but a small smile as he held the bag of money as tightly as he could and used the side of his arm to push the door open.
“Why do you want to come with us?”
You turn to Jaehyun. It was just you and him. By staying back he had once again proved to be the only one who truly thought things through.
“Believe it or not, robbing gas stations seems better than picking up another late shift for a lazy coworker on this dull planet. The thrill is a bonus.”
You catch a pair of dimples appearing on his cheeks. “Yeah, well with that thrill comes three idiots, myself excluded.”
“I’ll manage.”
“In that case, welcome to the crew.”
“It doesn’t matter that we’re criminals!” Jaehyun shouts, bringing your attention back to reality. “That doesn't mean you get to be a pain in my—”
“Hey!” All of a sudden, the door that leads into the cockpit slides open and Johnny’s head pops in. “I need a new toothbrush. Can we stop by a gas station or something?”
“Just use hers.” Yuta jabs his thumb in your direction. “Work’s for me.”
“Wait, what?” you ask, mouth agape. “You better be joking.”
He just shoots you a smile, displaying his pearly whites, as if to tease you. You whine and make a face that expresses all your disgust.
“Relax, I rinse it off when I’m done like, almost every time.”
“Almost?”
Taeyong speaks up before you can go off on Yuta. “Alright! Next stop, gas station!”
Your ship lands on a nearby planet and when you land, you can’t help but gaze out the window in awe, the luxurious ships and opulent buildings catching you off guard. Even the people that cruise down the streets—that practically shone and didn’t have a trace of litter—are draped in flashy clothing.
”We’re gonna look so out of place,” you grumble to yourself but Yuta’s ears pick up on the comment.
“Cheer up.” He points to the civilians below you. “Just think about how easy they’re gonna be to pickpocket.”
“No pickpocketing.”
A chorus of displeased groans fill the ship. You notice that even Jaehyun seems a little bummed out by Taeyong’s reprimand.
“We’re only here to get what we need. The amulet is our top priority, remember?”
Yuta unbuckles his seatbelt. “The amulet is your top priority. Mine is stealing some filthy rich dude’s fancy watch.”
“Well, just think about how much the amulet is worth. You’ll be able to have all the stupid watches in the world.”
“Yeah, once we find it.”
Johnny’s comment reminds each and every one of you of your current struggle—actually locating the amulet. It was undeniable that finding the treasure’s whereabouts had been your biggest obstacle so far. In fact, the idea of it being nonexistent had been tossed around, much to your captain’s displeasure. In fact, the only reason any of you had heard about this item was because of Taeyong.
According to his grandfather’s tales, it was so valuable that it could turn someone from rags to riches but the mystery of where it was prevented him from finding it himself. It was clear the amulet was something special to Taeyong and his dedication to attaining it was probably sparked by his grandfather’s own desire to do so and only fueled by his death.
He was always on the hunt for it, resulting in the rest of you doing the same, even if you didn’t match his vigor. You scoured the galaxies in pursuit of it but Taeyong’s determination never once faltered.
“Just get in and get out,” Jaehyun commands, siding with Taeyong, as per usual. “We’ll stay here with the ship.”
“Are you afraid someone’s gonna steal it?” Johnny teases, standing from his seat. “Because I wouldn’t worry about it.”
You snicker. “What a polite way to say it’s a hunk of junk.”
“Might I remind you that someone begged to be on this,” Taeyong makes sure to make in-air quotes, “hunk of junk.”
“She was so innocent and naive back then,” sighs Jaehyun, hand placed dramatically over his chest. “What happened?”
“You guys did. Practically drove me into insanity.”
“I’m sure you would’ve gotten there yourself,” counters Johnny.
You can’t seem to argue with that so you simply shrug. “Probably.”
“Get a move on, you guys.” Taeyong stretches his limbs out as far as they can go and then comfortably places his hands behind his head with a yawn. You had never thought about how tiring piloting the ship was for him. “We’ll be waiting.”
With that, you, Johnny, and Yuta exit the ship, receiving some of the nastiest looks you’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing as soon as you step foot on the planet.
“What’s with all the staring?” you mutter as you make eye contact with a seemingly disgusted woman dressed in gold from head to toe. “You would think that with all that money they could pay for some good manners.”
Johnny agrees only mumbling, “If looks could kill.”
Yuta lets out a frustrated sigh. “All I want is something expensive. I’ll even take a ring at this point, I don’t care. How am I even supposed to get my hands on anything when everyone is too scared to get within five feet of us?”
“Guess we don’t meet their standards.”
“Having that amulet would come in handy right about now,” you comment.
Johnny snorts. “Oh. Right. The prized amulet.”
“You mean the one that only exists in grandpa’s head?”
“Say that Taeyong’s face, Yuta, I dare you.”
“No thanks. I might be stupid but I’m not an idiot. I know he’d knock me out cold.”
Johnny shakes his head. “He’s so set on finding it. I still remember the day he finally brought it up to all of us. There was this fire in his eyes. He seemed so determined that I would’ve followed him across galaxies to get the stupid thing.”
Yuta chuckles. “We all did. But it’s been, what? A year now? Seems kind of impossible at this point.”
“I wish we’d just go back to doing all the fun crimes that he and Jae would come up with when we first met. Remember those?”
You can’t help but smile at the memories, remembering the feeling of adrenaline racing through your veins as you continue listening to Johnny and Yuta talk.
“Yeah. Those were the good days. Now our lives are just a huge wild goose chase.”
“We’re here,” you announce, steering the conversation away from your misfortunes.
The three of you peer at the building before you, its windows are shiny and from the glimpse you catch of the inside, everything is stocked up and organized. The sign above it reads ‘Purveyor’ in bold letters.
“This is the closest thing they have to a gas station?” Yuta asks, mouth agape.
You nod. “I think so.”
“I don't wanna go in. Nice things scare me.”
You ignore Johnny and take the first step forward. The cashier glances up from counting money when the bell on the door rings, alerting him of your presence. He almost drops the currency when he gets a good look at you. Although, he doesn’t seem judgy. In fact, he seems more in awe with you than anything else.
You stuff your hands into your cargo pants as you awkwardly walk past him and roam the store. You hear the door open and soon enough Yuta joins you as you skim the shelves, grabbing the necessary items.
“Pick your toothbrush,” you tell him as you grab one for yourself. You had immediately gotten rid of the one you two had shared. “And please stick to it this time.”
He cracks a smile as he eyes his options. “Do they have those ones that light up? And play the songs so you know how long to brush?”
“You mean the kid ones?” You’re ready to laugh at Yuta’s joke but he seems serious enough as he nods his head, vigorously.
“Uh, well, they’re probably around here somewhere. Keep looking.” You hold back a chuckle when he goes back to searching intensely. “Which one does Johnny want?”
“Not sure, he stayed outside.”
“Oh god, he was serious about being scared?”
“Probably just wants us to do all the shopping.”
“Well, go tell him that if he doesn’t come in here and pick a toothbrush, I’ll be taking the liberty of getting him this one.” You hold up a fuschia pink one with a cute princess character on it. You assumed it was from some cartoon that was popular with the children of the planet.
Yuta obeys and seconds later, Johnny magically appears to grab a solid blue toothbrush off the shelf and give you a glare. After grabbing a couple more items, you check out. Johnny fishes into his pocket for money, mumbling about how he knew it was in there somewhere. After much digging, he pulls out a crumpled wad of cash that you’re pretty sure isn’t even valid on the planet you’re on. He smiles proudly at you and Yuta then the cashier but the expression quickly falters.
“Wong Yukhei?”
You glance between him and the man behind the register—Yukhei, according to Johnny.
“Johnny Suh!” Yukhei’s voice is loud but filled with excitement. “I thought I recognized you! But I told myself there was no way!”
Johnny laughs, breathlessly. “I could say the same thing! What are you doing here, man?”
He casts his eyes downwards. “As soon as you left with those two guys, I realized I didn’t wanna street fight for the rest of my life either. I wanted to start over and I thought, what better place than here? So, I picked up a job at the palace—”
“Woah, woah, woah!” Johnny interrupts. “You? In a palace? Never would've seen that coming.”
Yukhei grins so wide it seems like second nature. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, I just worked as a guard.”
“That’s still something!”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what happened?”
Your question seems to bring his spirits down once again. “I quit. They kept telling me to ‘work harder’. But it was just about impossible, I was already running around like crazy for the royal family. They’re so demanding, I swear. Only person who didn’t drive me crazy was the prince.” He sighs. “I didn’t have what it took, I guess.”
“Sorry to hear that, Yukhei,” Johnny sympathizes. “You still made an effort, though.”
He nods. “Yeah. But it doesn’t always work out. So, here I am.” He forces a weak smile. “What about you?”
“I turned things around—not for the better, though.”
Yukhei raises a brow, offering you and Yuta a glance. “I’m guessing your new friends have something to do with that.”
Yuta chuckles. “Hey, he joined the team before me or her.”
“Team?” Yukhei echoes.
Johnny nods, half heartedly. “Yeah. Long story short I basically live on a ship with four fools, commit crimes, and look for imaginary treasure.”
Yukhei looks dumbfounded but his lips curve upwards in amusement. “Sounds… fun?”
This produces a laugh from Johnny. “Sometimes.”
He leans forward on the countertop, curiously. “And what’s this treasure we’re talking about?”
“Some amulet. Our guy in charge—you’ve seen him, he’s got pink hair—is wild about finding it. We’re just along for the ride.”
Yukhei nods in understanding. “I see… and this amulet, could you describe it for me?”
Johnny shares an uncertain look with you and Yuta, obviously expecting one of you to come forward. You both return his stare.
Yukhei chuckles. “Okay, lemme ask again. Could you bring me someone who can describe it?”
Not even a minute later, Taeyong has been forcibly dragged out of the ship joined by Jaehyun who insists on filling his duty of backing up the older male.
“Yukhei, this is Taeyong. Taeyong, Yukhei. Okay, now that you’re no longer strangers, can you give our friend here a quick description of your beloved amulet?”
Taeyong is taken aback by Johnny’s strange request but does so anyway. When it came to the amulet, you all knew he would do anything. “Well, it can fit inside the palm of your hand. I’ve heard it’s gorgeous, too. So gorgeous it could be mistaken for a piece of fine jewelry.”
The five of you stay silent as Taeyong continues reciting what he had heard from his grandfather so many times. Once he’s finished, you notice that there’s a satisfied expression on Yukhei’s face.
“I think I know what you’re talking about.”
Taeyong smiles at the declaration, teeth making a bright appearance. He had never met someone other than his relative that knew of this treasure. “Are you serious?”
Yukhei nods, positively sure. “Oh yeah.”
“Do you happen to know where it is?” You can hear the hope and fear in your captain’s voice. You could even feel it. The cruciality of this moment weighs in on you; this could be a turning point in your hunt or another dead end.
“It’s on this planet.”
Your entire crew stays silent, too stunned by this new piece of information to say a word so Yukhei decides to continue.
“In the palace. Around the prince’s neck.”
This is followed by another moment of silence. Each of you celebrate internally, happy to finally have found a location. All that was left was a plan. How were you going to get it in your hands? As if he’s reading your minds, Yukhei speaks up.
“I know how to get it for you, too.”
“How?” Taeyong nearly pleads.
“Johnny?” He directs his attention to the older male. “How do you feel about becoming a palace guard?”
Johnny’s face gives away his answer before his mouth has the chance—his nose scrunches up and his eyes widen ever so slightly. Taeyong stares up at him, filled with a newly found ambition. That seems to pressure Johnny into agreeing to whatever Yukhei was scheming and Taeyong must surely know it.
“I… guess I could.”
“Alright then, go to the palace immediately. They must be desperate to find a replacement for me but they’re always open to more defense. They believe in power in numbers over there, they don’t care where you’re from or who you are. They’ll settle for anyone as long as they look like they can take and give a good punch. And, you know what Johnny? You’re the strongest guy I’ve ever met. It’s impossible that they won’t hire you.”
Johnny smiles at the compliment before asking, “What do I do once I’m inside?”
“You wait. Complete the tasks they give you. Don’t make yourself stand out. Just… don’t be suspicious.” Yukhei seems pleased with the nod of understanding Johnny gives him. “Once night falls, Johnny will wait by one of the backdoors and let somebody in using the keys they’ll give him along with his armor and sword. This will make sneaking inside the palace way easier. Once that person is in, they’ll have to steer clear of any other guards and head to the prince’s room. The amulet will be wherever he is.”
Taeyong purses his lips as he thinks of a candidate to do the sneaking. “Can’t be Yuta—”
“Why not?”
“Because you’ll end up stealing stuff instead of staying focused.”
Yuta can’t seem to argue with this statement so he simply nods and keeps quiet.
“Can’t be me, I’m the getaway driver. Jae?”
Jaehyun shakes his head. “I stay with you. If we get found out, you’ll need defense.”
Five pairs of eyes end up on you and you sigh. “You don’t even have to say it. I got it.”
Taeyong places a hand on your shoulder. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” You give him a genuine smile. “What are we waiting for? Let’s get this amulet… finally.”
You file into the ship and Yukhei joins you to serve as a guide. He tells you the ins and outs of the castle and informs you of important details as you take off. You can’t help but feel your heart thump as you listen to him. You certainly did not think you would be getting anywhere near the amulet today and yet here you were—about to break into a castle for it.
When you land nearby the palace, that anxious feeling only intensifies. You know you won’t have to do anything risky until later that night but seeing Johnny getting ready to leave makes you realize that it was really happening. You were finally going after what you had spent the last year of your lives seeking. You couldn’t afford to slip up despite all the things that could go wrong.
“Nervous?” you ask, approaching the brunette.
He runs a hand through his hair and gives you an honest shrug. “Kind of. But then I think about how good life’s gonna be once we get that amulet.”
You admire his positive outlook. You decide that you’ll match his mindset instead of bringing him down with your worries. “True. We’ve been waiting for this. It’s kind of exciting when you think about it.”
He nods. “We can do it.”
You’re sure his certainty is supposed to boost your confidence as well so you reply, “I know.”
With that, he leaves the ship, walking into the bustling streets, towards the palace Lucas has described to him. Although, he assured him it’d be impossible to miss. You watch his figure become increasingly harder to track before he disappears completely, becoming just another someone in the crowd. You back away from the window with a sigh.
All that was left to do was play the waiting game. But you had been playing it for the last year, right? What would another couple hours do?
It was true what they said about sunsets being more beautiful on certain planets. You decide that this specific planet is one of them. Everyone onboard the ship takes a pause from worrying to gaze at the sky, painted with warm oranges and yellows before setting into a cool purple and blue hue. Stars begin to appear and you see the outline of three moons in the distance. Night time was near and you would be needed on the field soon. You prayed that Johnny had successfully made it inside the palace or else your mission would be over before it even started.
“You ready to go?” asks Taeyong as you retie your laces.
You glance up at him and nod, tightening a knot. “I hope so.”
He doesn’t say another word but continues to stand above you, even when you begin to work on your other boot. You suspect he’s trying to find the proper words to tell you not to ruin this for him and simultaneously boost your morale so you stay silent. When you stand from your kneeling position, Taeyong still doesn’t say a thing. Instead, he pulls you into a tight hug.
“Please be careful.”
This is a command you certainly didn’t expect but you’re not disappointed at all. You carefully wrap your arms around him. “I will.”
“I want you back in one piece, got it, young lady?”
You feel your heart tighten along with the knot in your stomach but you only chuckle. “Yes, captain.”
The three others who sit in the cockpit yell encouragement your way and wave you off before you slip out of the ship, engulfed by the darkness. You had never been afraid of it. It was always more of an ally to you than something to fear. You were grateful—it shielded you away from everyone and everything else whenever you found yourself doing unsavory things which, for the record, was often.
You follow the path Yukhei instructed you to take. You had been ordered to go around the castle, through the nearby woods that would hide you away from any guards patrolling the perimeter. As you tried your best to dodge prickly shrubs and low hanging branches you can’t help but envy Johnny who simply had to knock at the front gates to be let in.
The prospect of seeing your friend again motivates you to keep walking. You might have secretly cursed the castle for being so large as you trudged along, your legs already starting to feel slightly sore and a thin layer of sweat forming on your forehead but you didn’t let yourself feel too discouraged. You remind yourself that Johnny is waiting for you on the fourth door behind the castle, as Yukhei had ordered. You had to make it to him.
For Taeyong.
For your team.
For you.
After what seems like an eternity, you reach the door. Just to be sure you scan it up and down. Wooden? Yes. Scratches on the bottom? Many. Rusty doorknob? Definitely. It seemed to match Yukhei’s description perfectly and if everything was going according to plan, Johnny should be right behind it as well. Without any further hesitation you knock as softly as possible. You don’t expect it to be audible but to your surprise, it opens almost immediately. His figure is poorly illuminated but you can still see the shine of Johnny’s metal armor and the reflection of a moon in his sword.
You give him a quick once over. “Looking good, John.”
He shushes you but you still manage to catch his smile. “Just get in here.”
You obey and he closes the door behind you as soon and quickly as possible. You barely get a chance to look around what you’re sure to be the nicest place you’ve ever been before Johnny’s ushering you towards a large set of stairs. You both rush up them and upon reaching the second floor he grabs you by the shoulders, forcing you to stare directly at him.
“Go left, right, down the hall, and through the door. It’ll be the last door to your right.”
He’s referring to the location of the amulet and you nod, hoping he can’t see just how nervous you are. These directions are sacred. They were what you had been looking for.
“There’s no guards up there so just worry about getting the amulet and getting out. I’ll be here in case anyone decides to come by.”
Without further ado you dart up the stairs, the carpet on each step preventing you from making a noise. You glance down at Johnny who is posted at the bottom of the staircase. He smiles warmly over his shoulder and gives you a subtle thumbs up just as a pair of guards pass him by.
You move fast and without hesitation, your friend's words still clear in your mind. When you finally arrive in front of the door that holds the amulet you take a shaky deep breath. Your trembling hand twists the doorknob completely before pushing it open enough for you to take a peek inside.
A boy, around your age, sits cross legged on a king sized bed with satin sheets, acoustic guitar in hand. His fingers fiddle with the strings and he pushes a pair of specks farther up the bridge of his nose as he examines sheet music sprawled all over his mattress, attentively. You hear him hum to himself, tongue poking out of his lips as he concentrates on the melody. He sighs in frustration before leaning back on his headboard. He briskly runs a hand through his black locks before his fingers land on something on his neck. Your eyes widen as you catch a glint of green.
He was still wearing the amulet.
You refrain from groaning. You thought it would be on his dresser or bedside table and that finding it would only take a little rummaging. Then again, you also thought he was going to be asleep. It seemed like this guy just wanted to make things difficult for you.
You find yourself to be at a loss. You ask yourself what Taeyong would do before concluding that pondering it was useless. Obviously, Jaehyun would be right by his side as backup. You had no one but Johnny at the bottom of the stairs and you couldn’t call for him. What about Yuta? He would probably charge in, gun cocked and loaded. You couldn’t do that either.
You decide that all you can do is your best.
So, you knock. The humming ceases and you hear the bed creak. You press yourself against the wall, holding your breath as his footsteps near and the door flies further open.
“Donghyuck, I know you’re a servant but I already told you that you don’t have to knoc—”
The prince isn’t given a chance to finish before your hand is clamped firmly against his mouth. Your other hand grips his shoulder with such force that he wails in pain. You feel him struggle to escape your grip and his cries come out muffled. You push him against the door, eyes boring into his caramel brown orbs.
“Would you be willing to give me the amulet, my prince? Or will I have to rip it off you?”
Your every word is laced with venom and if anything, he should feel more threatened but you can’t help but notice that his screams have stopped. He mumbles something that you can’t understand so you part your fingers so he can get a couple words in.
“You’re a girl?”
You shut your hand over his mouth again, rolling your eyes. “Yes, I’m a girl. Problem?”
He shakes his head, furiously.
“Great. Amulet, please?”
He raises a hand to grip the string that binds the precious emerald green stone to his neck. He removes it and places it in your outstretched hand. You refuse to let the sheer excitement that blooms in you show. You needed to maintain the upper hand.
“Very good. You’re a smart thing, huh? Glad to see they taught someone around here some common sense.”
You inspect the amulet and allow yourself a smile. Just a small one. You tuck it into your pocket before turning your attention back to the prince.
“What’s your name?”
“Mark. Mark Lee.”
“Alright, Mark Lee. You’ve been very cooperative with me tonight, surprisingly so. I want you to keep it up, can you do that for me?”
He nods and you drag him towards his bed, forcing him to sit down on the edge. He gazes up at you, eyes slightly watery. You feel a pang of guilt at his fearful look but then you remember the gem in your pocket and suddenly a couple tears from Mark don’t seem like such a bad price to pay for it.
“Sit here. Don’t move until I’m gone. No screaming or calling for help either, got it?”
He nods once more. You back away from him, watching to make sure he stays still in his place. He does, eyes still following your every move.
“Okay, Mark, um. Have a good night?”
With that you all but fling yourself at the door. You run back the same way you came, containing any celebratory laughter or dances. You had the amulet. You were set for life. Your friends were, too. You’re convinced that nothing can bring you down.
“Hey! Burglar girl!”
Scratch that.
You spin on your heel and there stands Mark, charging towards you. You debate whether or not to keep running. You were so, so close. The stairs were right there. But then you catch sight of an object in his hand, one that shines even in the dark of the hallway. It’s green and hangs by a string. You pat your pocket, making sure if you really even had the amulet. You feel it, it’s with you. Then what was it that Mark had?
Against your better judgment, you wait right where you stand, allowing the boy to catch up to you. He wordlessly holds the second amulet up for you to take. You grab it, Mark having seemingly no problem with that.
“That’s… a decoy,” he pants, pointing to your pocket, doubled over as he inhales air.
You feel yourself become even more confused than before and this time you have no control over your facial expressions. Your eyebrows furrow and you hold the real amulet close to your face, staring at it carefully with uncertainty. All you can ask is, “why are you doing this?”
By this point Mark’s caught his breath and he stands up straight. “I wanted you to have the real one. I mean, you went through all this effort, right?”
“I don’t buy that. What are you gonna do? Turn me in? Is this a trap?”
Before you can speculate any further, Mark entraps your wrist with his hand. You kick yourself for even stopping in the first place. If you had made a run for it, at least you could go back to Johnny and Taeyong and the rest of your friends even if the amulet you held was fake. Now you were going to get consequences, for sure. You prepare for him to call out for someone but he never does.
“I want to go with you.”
You’re sure your ears are deceiving you so you don’t even bother responding and for a moment there’s just silence. He clears his throat.
“Did you hear me?”
“Oh, so you really did say that, huh?”
“Um, yes, I did.”
You shake your head. “Sorry, I’m just in a shock, I’m sure you can understand.”
He nods and releases his grip on you. “Yeah, this must be pretty confusing but I promise I’m being serious. Royal life is not something I’m cut out for and running away with a pretty stranger seems like my best bet right now.”
You blink a couple times. “Wow. So, this is how Jaehyun felt that one time.”
Mark tilts his head. “What?”
“Nothing. Let’s just go. But only if you’re sure about this.”
“I’m positive.”
“Alright then.” You begin to go down the stairs before you pause and look back at Mark and the amulet in his hand. “That is real, right?”
He can’t help but give you a lopsided smile. “Yes, it is.”
“Just making sure.”
BONUS:
Taeyong is a loss for words as his eyes dart between you and the dark haired boy besides you. Jaehyun matches his confusion, arms crossed over his chest. Yukhei seems equally amused and worried, glancing at Mark, tentatively. Yuta smiles wickedly, interested with how things have gone and surely excited to see you attempt to explain yourself.
“Um, Johnny?” Taeyong says, hoping the oldest one onboard will have some kind of explanation.
He shrugs, a tired expression on his face. “I have no idea. The kid was set on coming, I wasn’t gonna say no. I just wanted to get out of there.”
Taeyong nods, staring at Mark, intensely. “Uh-huh. And you’re here because?” He leaves the question open-ended and Mark rubs the back of his neck, giving you a lingering look.
“Well, she kind of just appeared in my room and started bossing me around and like, I freaked but it was also the most exciting thing that’s happened to me in years so I didn’t want to lose her so I gave her the amulet—the real one, by the way—and told her I wanted to come along. Now I’m here in front of you all and I’m kind of uncomfortable, I won’t lie—”
“You got the amulet?”
You’re grateful for Taeyong’s interruption; you’re sure that without it, Mark would rant the entire night.
You shake your head. “He has it, actually.”
Mark steps forward and places it around Taeyong’s neck without a second thought. On the way back, you had briefly explained to him how long he had been looking for it and how much it meant to him. Mark found his dedication incredible and seemed even excited to give Taeyong his long-awaited prize.
Taeyong’s hands delicately trace the outline of the accessory and you swear he tears up.
“I’m glad it’s yours now,” Mark comments. “Even if you do sell it. It just sat around back at the palace, another ridiculously expensive thing nobody really cared about.”
Taeyong nods with a sniffle, overcome with emotion. Jaehyun reaches over to rub his back. Yuta begins to clap slowly but you nudge him and he knocks it off. You hear Johnny thank Yukhei for his help, to which he only shakes his head, humbly.
You lock eyes with Mark and he glances around the ship, looking suddenly nervous. You smile at his antics, motioning for him to come closer. He slowly obeys and you extend your hand towards him. He stares down at it, hesitantly.
“I don’t bite,” you promise. “I just want to start over. I don’t think I made the best first impression.”
He grips your hand back with a chuckle. “I beg to differ. I know you were trying to rob me and everything but you still seemed nice enough. That’s stupid to say about the person who had me pressed against a wall like, half an hour ago but to be honest, I was fine with it. It was kinda hot—”
A chorus of too loud to be real coughs fill the ship and the culprits are none other than your crewmates. They all eye Mark, as if to give him a warning. Even Yukhei gives him a nasty look.
“Um, so, anyway, thanks. For getting me out of there. Might not seem like it but it really sucked.”
You understand him completely, having been in a similar situation yourself. “No problem. Glad to have you around.”
The sudden sound of sirens prevent you from saying anything else. They’re incredibly loud and you press your hands over your ears to try and shield yourself from the horrendous noise. To add to the commotion, a couple cop ships speed by in the near distance.
“The sirens are from the palace!” Mark exclaims. “They’re probably looking for me!”
“So are the cops!” you respond.
You laugh at the way his face drops with worry. Being on the cops’ bad side was still foreign to him. You place a reassuring hand on his back.
“Don’t worry! You’ll get used to it!”

The Bunny, The Decoy and the Apex Games #4
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32034451/chapters/79672615
Summary:
On the battlefield, so much can happen. But little did the audience of the Apex Games know, they were watching the game that was about to change your relationship with Octavio forever.
Chapter 1 / Chapter 2 / Chapter 3
————————————————————————–
Your squad had landed right in the centre of Harvester. You noticed that at least two other teams had landed close by so you focused on quickly gathering the loot you needed in case a battle was imminent. “R-99 here. She’s fast like me!,” Octavio tossed you the submachine gun and a handful of light ammo before dashing off to the opposite side of the Harvester to try and find his preferred weapons: a Wingman and a Peacekeeper.
“Bad guy over there. Be careful, guys,” Elliott warned, pinging the platform above us. Moving to crouch behind cover, you managed to spot Alexander setting up his annoying gas traps through the iron sight of your gun. The other two people on his squad were no doubt somewhere nearby too.
While you and Elliott were content with waiting for the right moment to push the enemy team, Octavio was unfortunately never one for patience. He charged right towards the platform, threw his jump pad and launched himself right at them, all while spewing bullets from the Spitfire he’d picked up.
You and Elliott both took different directions up to the platform to try and catch the enemies off-guard. It wasn’t surprising that Octavio was still very much alive and annoying the enemy squad like a persistent fly as he was skilled at using his stim to slip out of sight every time they thought they finally had him.
Just as you’d arrived on the platform, Octavio had managed to down Ramya but had suffered severe injuries from her prized mini gun, Sheila. You spotted Octavio recharging his shields behind cover and quickly took note of the blood covering his mask. Although you were concerned for him, you knew there was no time to help tend to his wounds. Octavio was out for the rest of this fight, it was up to you and Elliott to defeat the final two in this squad.
Elliott used one of his decoys, directing it into the room where you two suspected Alexander and his squad mate were camping. Just as you’d expected, bullets started flying at the decoy and when they least expected it, you and Elliott charged into the room with your guns ablazing, taking down the last of the squad.
Octavio entered the room, still healing up with a health syringe. “That was awesome, let’s do it again!,” he said excitedly, jumping up and down on the spot. You crouched down in the corner of the room, away from sight from the windows or the open doors and began recharging your EVO shield. He must have noticed the frown on your face because Octavio asked confusedly “What’s wrong, chica? We did great!”
You heaved a heavy sigh and wondered whether it was even worth trying to explain it to him. You finished up charging your shields and stood up to face Octavio, saying exasperatedly “Well yes, we did do great with this fight but you could have died there! You can’t just go charging into battle all on your way without even warning us, Octavio. I...we were worried about you.”
Even though you couldn’t see his face through the mask, you could tell that Octavio was pouting. He snapped in an annoyed tone “You never used to say anything about it before, why are you getting onto my ass about this now? We killed the entire squad, that’s what matters!” Octavio stomped off towards the nearest death box and busied himself with looting it.
His words surprised you. Although you’d always been slightly annoyed when Octavio charged into battle on his own in the past, you’d never been worried for his safety before. He was more than capable of dealing with his own fights and even if he was knocked out of the fight, you knew you’d see Octavio on the dropship later when the game was over anyway. So, why were you experiencing such feelings for him now?
Unable to come up with a response, you walked over to the Replicator to craft yourself a purple backpack. You were a huge fan of termite grenades, much to Walter’s joy when he found out during your first game together so getting a backpack large enough to fit all of them plus your ammo and healing materials was extremely important to you. “Hey, you okay?,” Elliot, who had just finished crafting a purple extended light magazine, asked with a concerned smile.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Octavio’s just being a bit of an ass, can you believe he just jumped in like that?,” you grumbled, typing on one of the Replicator’s keyboards. The machine began whirring to life as it turned the crafting materials into your backpack. Elliott chuckled in amusement and you turned to him with a frown. “What’s so funny?”
Elliott shook his head and said “He always does it, and he manages to get himself out of trouble every time. I think you’re just feeling a bit sensitive, ya know? Cause you two are dating now and all.” He shrugged as if what he’d just said was a mere suggestion but the twinkle in his eyes told you differently.
“That’s not it,” was all you said in response as you grabbed the freshly crafted backpack and put it on. The announcer spoke up again, stating that there was only 30 seconds left before the ring would start closing. It was time to get moving towards Fragment East to get you and Octavio’s big event for the screen going, even if you two weren’t exactly on the best of terms now.
Your squad managed to successfully make it to Fragment East without bumping into any enemy squads along the way. Elliott luckily hadn’t questioned why you wanted to go that direction even though you both knew that it was pretty much a death trap. Octavio had been strangely quiet the entire journey there and you were worried that he was going to back out from the plan. The Syndicate would not be happy and you didn’t want to find out what the punishment would be.
You made your way towards the four-level building, your nerves beginning to catch up to you. The whole world would soon see you kissing Octavio, how would the public react to it? How would the other Legends react to it? This evening on the dropship after the game would definitely be utter chaos.
Taking the zip-line over to the top floor of the building, you glanced around to try and spot where the cameras were hidden. The manager you’d spoken to had said that they would be placing cameras on every floor of the building to ‘give you two the freedom to choose where you wanted to do it’. If they weren’t paying you, you’d have decked the manager in the face by now.
Elliott began looting the floor and Octavio came over to you, holstering his gun. “Should we get to it? Before any enemy squads decide to push us?,” he asked, glancing around nervously. You agreed and took the zip line down with him to the second floor, putting some distance between the two of you and Elliott.
You thought it would be much easier than this. It wasn’t as if you’d never kissed anyone before, you’ve had plenty of practice. Yet standing here in front of Octavio now, you could almost feel your heart beating so hard that it threatened to explode from your chest. He pulled his mask down and said with a sheepish smile “I’m sorry about earlier, I just get so bored waiting around. I didn’t mean to get upset at you for caring.”
You felt your cheeks begin to heat up. “You don’t need to apologize for that. I overreacted, I’m sorry. You’re more than capable of taking care of yourself and I should trust you as your squad mate,” you said as you leaned back against the wall in an attempt to hide your wobbly knees. When was it going to happen?
Octavio opened his mouth to speak and closed it again as if thinking carefully about his next words before he finally said “You only see me as a squad mate?” He stepped closer towards you and since you’d backed yourself into a wall, there was nowhere you could go. You stared at Octavio, eyes wide in shock at his question. You mentally reminded yourself that he was probably just acting for the cameras and to not panic.
“My heart belongs to you, Y/N. Ever since the day I joined the Apex Games and you showed me around the dropship, I knew I felt something for you. I just didn’t know it was love until, well, just now,” Octavio said with his light green eyes locked on yours. He put a hand up to your cheek and asked “I just need to know, do you feel the same for me?”
Who knew Octavio had such a romantic side to him? Certainly not you at any rate. As nervous as you felt, you knew it was your turn to play your role as the smitten love interest. You smiled as sweetly as you could and said as you put a hand up to Octavio’s cheek as well “Of course, I do. I could never imagine being with anyone but you.”
With the romantic words having been uttered by the both of you, it was finally time for the big kiss. As Octavio’s face moved in closer to yours, you closed your eyes and waited for the impact. When you felt Octavio’s lips pressing against yours, you were surprised at how soft they were. This wasn’t as bad as you thought it’d be after all. You felt strangely safe.
“Woah!,” a sudden exclamation came from the direction of the room’s entrance where the zip line was situated. Octavio quickly pulled away from the kiss and stepped back, turning to face Elliott who looked absolutely shell shocked. Elliott started speaking again, tripping over his words as he did so “I, uh...I’m sorry for interrupting! I’ll come back later, yeah? Bye!”
Elliott made a run for the zip line and disappeared onto a different floor of the building, leaving you and Octavio alone again. You two had done what the Syndicate had asked of you. Now all you had to do was to convince everyone that you were in a real relationship.
Octavio grabbed your hand and flashed you a happy grin before putting his mask back on. He shouted “Let’s go and win this game together, chica!” before pulling you after him down the zip line and back out onto the battlefield where enemy squads awaited.
