febhyurary, day 5: color

23rd sun of the 2nd umbral moon, 1547

my pet project with a colored aethograph, or what I like to call an 'aethochrome', with aetherically enhanced ink to capture colors. featuring my friend and classmate, elaine tatlonghari. taken early morning, with a waxing crescent moon in the background. I accidentally mixed in too much red during the process, and it gives the impression that it's still autumn. —W.J.

#febhyurary #febhyurary2025 #ffxivsnaps #gposers #ffxiv gpose #ffxiv oc #hyur #mygposes.#'cid who's w.j.?' don't worry about it (really it's just a random initial i came up with lol)#but yea idk about this one. i pulled an outtake shot i did showing off elaine's college haircut for this #but whatever it's not a big deal #i like to think this w.j. person invented color photography since garlemald still uses the monochrome technique #though with it came new problems: monochrome aethography doesn't have the same issues as color aethography #in garlemald developing aethographs in b&w/sepia is less expensive and you're only working with /at most/ 3-6 shades of gray #the common man had no need for colors as it was a form of self-expression that was frowned upon #whereas color (painting or aethograph) was typically reserved for the royal family to show the emperor in all his vigor #while the garleans have had aethographs since before the empire began (it's one of the few devices that doesn't need ceruleum to function #and only needs a basic understanding of chemistry to operate. think about those old box cameras with the curtain & flash powder)#eorzea is still catching up to the technology like aethographs/printers/linkpearls #anyway enough loredumping sorrysorry #fun fact: there was no moon in the original gpose. i was fooling around with the texture in ps and set it to 'color dodge'#it was so swag i had to keep it

It's a new year! And that means a new profile Pic and watermark!

Old versions and extra details under cut!

The biggest change is the swap from my milk-encapsuled-frog (patent pending/j) to my Sona! I decided on the swap because

It felt too branded? It didn't feel personalized or really meaningful, just an extension of my username

My Sona holds alot more of my identity, it's how I express myself in art

The frog is so hard to pose. It's literally in a milk carton and the perspective issues do not help.

How tf am I supposed to dress-up that frog in outfits, like do I put it in a different bottle?? Do I drill holes in a cola can???

I do love my froggy fellow but for now he will be retiring (maybe they'll find a hobby or start a band, they are freed from profile picture duty's to go do whatever they want).

Also I have two watermarks now! A signature and one with my Sona that's very reminiscent of my old watermark. All of my new stuff is more vibrant now to reflect alot more confidence and improvement in my art! I can't really explain the rainbowy stuff lmao, I just think it adds a bit of whimsy and looks neat.

I hope y'all enjoy the changes, they're a bit jarring but I think they're a lot more me!

Brb, gonna be emotional about people still liking my older art (2020-2021), how for them that is me, all the while I look at that old art and see the differences, because I feel I've changed a lot since, while still remaining fundamentally the same-

#isn't it funny how you can date me (and any artist more generally) like a tree #i can generally tell when some things were made by the way technique changed over time #I used to be a STAUNCH lineart-flats-multiply-render artist back around 2020/2021 #that is no longer the case bc I realized the flats can be slightly shaded and multiply isn't necessary all the time #crosshashing as shading also used to be VERY common #though truly the biggest change came last year in April with a new lineart brush that forced me to gain a new technique #colors also changed quite a lot but I can't quite describe what exactly is different about it
