Say hello to the Links of LatL!! (again!)
Link and the Links is my Links Meet AU comic!
There were some design and art style changes I wanted to document and share. I hope you all like it!
Like last time there's more info below if you're interested!
(please do NOT tag as LU/Linked Universe!)
The Plot
The Links find themselves in a mysterious forest that seems somewhat familiar to all of them yet none of them know where they are. Forced to work together in order to get home, they'll discover a thing or two about each other and grow closer!
The Cast
A little introduction to the lads! I'll probably post individual refs/intros at some point and go into more detail there, but for now here's this!
I'm including age, height, how long it's been since their latest adventure ended, and a little blurb about them
Birdie (Skyward Sword)
18
160 cm (5'3)
Roughly 6 hours after defeating Demise
The start of it all. Unbeknownst to himself and the others, the space they find themselves in was created out of his desire to meet the heroes that came after him. He feels terribly guilty about the curse and very much blames himself for the possible suffering of future heroes. His main goal is to check up on everyone and help where he can!
Grasshopper (Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask)
10
125 cm (4'1)
4 days after leaving Termina
Somewhat disoriented after his journey still, he tags along simply because he thinks Birdie is an idiot who would get lost without him. He doesn't like to talk a lot, or communicate with the others at all to be honest. Hopefully he'll warm up to them at some point
Seagull (Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass)
13
145 cm (4'7)
6 months after leaving the domain for the ocean King
He's a real genuine pirate, yarr!! Or so he'd like you to believe. He talks a great deal about his strength and bravery, but really is just afraid and terribly homesick most of the time. He wants to fit in with Tetra's and her crew's toughness so much he might go a little overboard on the act in a way that may or may not end up biting him in the butt.
Choo (Spirit Tracks)
14
151 cm (4'9)
6 months after peace returned to new Hyrule
He wouldn't call himself a hero, in fact he'd say it's a miracle he made it out alive. Self-esteem and confidence really aren't his strong suits, he often finds himself dragged along and unable to say no. He is very friendly however, and if you just give him a little space he might even open up to you.
Wolfie (Twilight Princess)
26
175 cm (5'7)
9 years after defeating Ganondorf
Left Ordon after intrusive thoughts convinced him he was a danger to his village, now works at Telma's bar as a waiter in exchange for a room. He's responsible well liked, though he's not too fond of himself. He has some complicated feelings about the whole turning into a wolf thing
Apple (A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages/Seasons and Link's Awakening)
20
164 cm (5'4)
Just a few seconds after Koholint disappeared
He's a kind and soft spoken, weirdly wise sort of guy and near instantly becomes the heart of the team. With a tendency to push his own feelings aside he prefers to take care of everyone else's.
Wallflower (A Link Between Worlds)
19
158 cm (5'2)
4 years after wishing upon the triforce with Zelda
Bitter doesn't even begin to describe this uh.. pleasant fella. After being bossed around for the better part of his life he doesn't take orders from anybody and is this close to quitting his job as a blacksmith. He hates being stuck here, he hates these strange people, really there's not much he doesn't hate. But that can't be all there is to him...
Puzzle (The Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link)
19
150 cm (4'9)
2 years after waking Zelda II
Confused, disoriented, but still happy to help and ready for adventure. Though some of the others don't really like him around he's still just as friendly to everyone. Since he struggles to communicate he tends to stay quiet. He appears to be simple minded on first glance, but he'll prove to be a valuable member of the team.
Sprout (Minish Cap)
32
139 cm (4'5)
22 years after defeating Vaati
After his grandfather died he retreated into his house and dedicated himself to improving his blacksmithing skills to live up to his grandfather's name, he was quickly forgotten by his community and faded into obscurity. Now he may be the best blacksmith in Hyrule, so good that even the royal guard hires him, but among the general castletown population he's nothing more than a forest cryptid. He only leaves the house when he has to, carefully avoiding people. Not because they disgust him, he just has a major case of social anxiety!
Squire (Breath of the Wild)
14
147 cm (4'8)
3 years pre calamity
This absolute rascal couldn't be happier about his current circumstances. These unknown woods are his playground and all of these weirdos are his friends now! Though everyone's pretty sure he's a knight trainee, he insists that he's just a stable hand for the guard. His chaotic and carefree nature surprisingly doesn't get in the way of things as he's eager to help out wherever he can, seeing the whole journey as an impromptu camping trip.
Some funfacts :]
Most of them are neurodivergent in some way!
Birdie and Seagull have ADHD, Grasshopper and Choo are autistic, Squire gets the combo platter AuDHD and Wolfie has OCD
Additionally, Birdie has auditory processing disorder and dyscalculia, and Squire has dyslexia
A few of them also have speech disorders
Choo stutters and Puzzle has cluttering speech disorder
Apple has a weak voice, so after a while his voice gets tired and gets hoarse
Choo enjoys drawings and cartography, two skills that will be very important!
One of Seagull's hobbies is photography! He takes his pictobox everywhere
Wolfie also does entertainment at the bar from time to time! He sings or does card tricks
Sprout knows HSL (hylian sign language) because his grandfather was deaf
Seagull's piratey way of talking is 100% for show and painfully inconsistent
Wolfie speaks in a thick southern (in universe ordonian) accent but he's trying hard to mask it since he moved to castletown
Wallflower absolutely hates Puzzle
Squire's special interest is horses
Birdie is a bit of a doormat so he has the ideas but Wolfie is the one to actually get them through
A number of them are blood related (has nothing to do with the colours of their names in this post, I had to reuse some because there weren't enough orz)

Hi Mr Kogha, what's your opinion on all four of Hyrules champions? If you weren't mortal enemies, do you think you'd get along with them?
Well this is a very big if isn't in? Would you ask the Rito Champion if he would be more pleasant if he hated flying? Or the Princess if she would be sympathetic to the Yiga if she wasn't a princess? That's an entirely different life you're asking about.
But oh well, I can try.
First and foremost, allow me to astonish you: I'm glad Championd exist. Obviously as individuals, as people they are horrible, but Champions are also pilots of Divine Beasts. And Beasts deserve to have pilots. After 10 000 years alone and immobile, burried underground, they deserve to have someone close to them, someone who allows them to fulfill their purpose as vehicles and move around. The Divine Beasts wouldn't bond with someone they are incompatible with, so they are in good hands.
It would be dishonest to say that I never feel bitter that the Pilots of Divine Beasts are my, I mean Yiga, enemies. The King ordering them dug back out on a whim also feels like an insult. And it is! But the Beasts were always meant to belong to their respective tribes afterall. No gift-back-sies and all that.
It also is annoying how little Champions know or understand about these machines, purely as someone who does. I am sure they haven't even considered the implications of the fact that Ganon managed to bond to, and seamlessly pilot the beasts for 100 years. And that the friendly Daruk had the most trouble bonding with Vah Rudania compared to the rest of them.
But if there were no Champions when Calamity Ganon emerged 100 years ago, the King might have scrambled the excavation efforts. And the vindication of Hyrule's doom, wouldn't have been as delicious without the involvement of the Ancient Sheikah weapons. So that's good.
If we weren't enemies I would be begging to be taken on a ride daily.
Now to the individuals
Daruk
is easily the most capable Champion of the bunch. When it comes to his skill as a warrior, mage, member of a team, everything. Without his cheerfulness their group would've crumbled within weeks. There is a good reason why among all Champions, he is the only one recognized by his own people as a hero. Not a just as a skilled individual, or leader, or royalty, a hero.
And I think in this timeline where I'm not trying to kill his friends around him we would get along swimmingly! To be honest, he feels almost as if, if I showed up at Goron City right now, without a disguise, said "I'm on vacation from villainy, wanna show me the sights?" Daruk would agree without a second thought. Not for being gullible, but because his massive body comes with an appropriately sized heart, AND if I was lying about the vacation he would prefer himself to be the closest Goron to me when something happens.
I should actually try that
Urbosa.
Why did ALL the Champion's had to miraculously return? I would prefer none, but her too feels personal.
The 100 years after the Calamity when she was dead... What a great time to be a Yiga. But no, the greatest party pooper in all the land can't just stay dead.
See, the THE DESERT is a rather difficult place to live in, and Gerudo would be a great help with that, on account of being easy to steal from. If it wasn't for their Chieftain. Stiff and humorless, consistently thwarting Yiga plots is one thing, understandable even. But somehow sucking any fun to be had from the back-and-forths is unforgivable.
She is ridiculously dedicated to normalcy, to keeping things the way they are. Somehow even passionate about it. The way she fights and speaks and calls down lighting, you only see it in people with real fire in their hearts. To me this sound like an impossible contradiction, but there Urbasa is, very unfortunately real.
I had to deal with her longer then anyone around today. Even Champions, including the big frowny herself, don't realize that without Urbosa's one and only soft spot for Princess Zelda, she would long have cut the rest of them down for being annoying, or just diched the group altogether. This is true! You would agree if you tried to crack a joke around her before blondy came about!!
Could I get along with her? Never. Even if I didn't hate all of Hyrule, even if the Yiga were accepted people of the kingdom, if we're in the desert we would not know peace with Urbosa. Maybe with the Gerudo in general, but not her. The only timeline where we don't try to kill each other is the one in which we never cross paths.
Mipha
or as I like to say, The Better Princess. How good for the people of the Zora Domain to still be able to call their leaders kings and princes, despite being subjects of a larger kingdom with its own unrelated monarch. Good for them. There is good reason why after two back to back apocalypses their domain is holding out by far the best.
I don't think I can tell much about the Zora Champion though. She's just too damn quiet, I barely see her. If a proclivity for healing sorcerery is any indication she's probably really nice and caring.
Given the honor of being personally dispatched by Ganon at such a young age... Honestly, 100 years ago I thought Dorephan was going to be the Champion, but I guess you need to fit into a Divine Beast to pilot it.
With Zora longevity, I do think Mipha would understand best of all Champions, what it's like to hold onto a 10 000 year old oath of vengeance. Her brother would even better.
If the rulers of the Zora Domain had some bravery, they would proclaim the lands of now destroyed kingdom of Hyrule their territory, their lake city the new capital, and their throne the new seat of power for all the land. They would rule better then any Hylian, that's for sure. The Yiga would support them.
Afterall, the mission of the Yiga is the destruction of Hyrule kingdom at the hands of Ganon, and the end of the Hyrule royal bloodline. If Zelda stays childless, we don't even need to talk about some kind of timey boogaloo. Mipha has the power to end our status as archenemies right now.
Revali
Speaking of actual children personally slain by our Lord and Destroyer. Yeeesh! What a fascinating lad. The Rito already don't live long and they still somehow managed to pick a fledgling to fly die for them.
The only Champion unrelated to a Sage. I say it without shame, it took centuries for Kohga to be called Master and here is the Rito equivalent throwing the title around after being alive for only 0.2 times that time. And being a Master is special. No chosen-one-ness, no noble blood, nothing compares. It's not a real title or position either, you only become one when people start referring to you as such and noone argues because it obviously fits. A Master is someone of incredible skill, a pride of their people, a leader, a mentor, a backbone of society and an inspiration. Someone everyone can look to for guidance and aid. And you have to be all of that and more, you can't slack on anything, you have to be perfect. All the time, you have to be what your people need at every moment.
And while I personally am not sure Revali would qualify for the same prestige had he been a Yiga. Afterall, a gloomy, mean-spirited attitude such as his is a clear sign of weakness, a concession to the hardships. How are you to inspire others to strife for your greatness if you yourself are a depressive wreck? Noone wants to be unhappy, obviously, why would they want to be you if you aren't having fun? But this is not my decision to make, but that of the Rito people. And they sure are quite unanimous.
I guess achieving something completely unique, never before seen, especially something as critical and useful as being able to fly upwards AS A BIRD PERSON, would condemn anyone to greatness, no matter how badly they take to hormonal flushes. Can you believe he got as close to obscurity as he did? Within two-three Hylian lifetimes he was reduced to a mere legend, his signature skill not considered an impossible fantasy only by, frankly, the most insane of his kind? Scary thought.
Truth be confessed, I keep returning to thinking about modifying our age manipulation technology so that it may slow Rito aging. If they lived longer lives, had a need for sturdier homes and monuments. Had enough time to develop a proper grudge. Would they be allies to the Yiga? Quite probably. Not probably enough to risk this much resources and Sheikah attention though.

Which Link would most likely win the Hunger Games?
This has probably already been done but regardless we're still gonna do it! Anyways, we are ignoring the canon age limits for the games so hear me out, I know the obvious answer is probably Wild but consider the many other strengths, advantages, and strategies the other Links could utilize when all fighting against each other. Any magical abilities or items involving time travel are banned however cause that's CHEATING.
Time - One word. MASKS. Heâs got 3 masks that change his form giving him an advantage in various settings. Deku mask for the sky/forest, Goron for the mountains and volcanoes, and Zora for the water. There are also the Stone and All-night masks to consider especially in these circumstances. And of course thereâs the Fierce Deity mask which would be great for taking out other tributes but be honest, do you REALLLLY think Time could or would use it against any of his boys?
Twilight - Iâll be honest he doesnât have a lot going for him weapons wise but he DOES have sheer brute strength and his ability to turn into Wolfie. He can easily track other tributes before they find him and sneak up on them in wolf form since most wonât consider their enemy coming in the form of a wolf. Plus, he doesnât really have disadvantages terrain wise and fellow animals will likely like him and be willing to help him which is a win.
Sky - Remember yâall this man is a GOD KILLER so he will not be afraid to do what needs to be done. Plus heâs got Skyward Strikes for dayyyyyys and heâs definitely got an advantage in terrains that require battles in the sky or that take place on high ground. Not only that, heâs the best swordsman in the group so that is something to consider. However his stamina does leave something to be desired.
Warriors - This man doesnât really have any special weapons other than his sword and fire rod but what he DOES have is his charisma and military leadership experience. In the famous words of Haymitch, âWhen youâre in the middle of the Games and youâre starving or freezing, some water, a knife, or even some matches can mean the difference between life and death. And those things only come from sponsors.â Warriors has a lot of experience rallying and leading armies so I believe he would be able to form alliances among tributes and lead them accordingly. Not only that, but you cannot convince me he wouldnât have the Capitol completely wrapped around his finger and be able to get sponsors left and right.
Legend - Jesus Christ what DOESN'T this guy have? He's got everything from weapons to rings to magic to all boost his chances for survival. Not only that, but he's also got experience to back up his crazy arsenal. You wanna know what he doesn't have though? A good personality. This man would probably make the Capitol HATE him within the first five minutes of meeting him, and everyone knows how the Capitol reacts to people who disobey and rebel against them. So while he himself may not have many disadvantages, the Capitol itself would likely be his biggest enemy.
Hyrule - Listen, Hyrule may not have any fancy sword fighting techniques but he is damn good at magic and I believe that that skill alone would be a massive advantage. Especially when you consider how he could use his healing magic to cure himself and allies which is something no one else would really be able to do without aid from sponsors. On top of that, his ability to turn into a fairy could make hiding from other tributes easier. Plus, his Hyrule (pun intended) is likely just as bad as any Hunger Games setting poison/toxins wise so he already has a lot of experience surviving in environments whose sole goal is to try to kill you.
Wild - Oh boy, it's the man the myth the semi-feral king of survival himself! Whatever survival skill it may be Wild has got it and is simply there to have a good bad time! This guy is a master of just about every weapon out there in addition to being able to run like mad and climb entire cliffs in seconds. Wild also has the ability to scavenge and cook food from what he finds and brew potions that boost his physical state in various ways. That is of course assuming he can find a cooking pot AND that the smoke/fire won't draw the attention of other tributes. However, I believe his biggest weakness would be his inability to NOT break every single weapon he finds. Fighting the literal calamity with nothing but a tree branch and a pot lid may have worked at the time, but fighting fellow incarnations of the Hero who all have similar skill sets and abilities is another story.
Four - I honestly think that Four could win the Games mainly because nobody could find him for the vast majority of it. Like, he could easily pull a Lucy Gray Baird and just shrink into a Minish and wait out the majority of the games. But in the case that he IS discovered or when the others have killed each other off, there are very few people know about Four's ability to split into four people and so he could easily split and perform a surprise attack of sorts and strike as four people rather than the expected one. His biggest disadvantage however, is his small size and any sort of intense weather. Opponents larger and stronger than him could likely overpower him and any rain or dramatic weather could be dangerous as a Minish.
Wind - I swear this kid runs on spite and sheer stubborn determination most days. This kid forcibly dragged the Triforce from the bottom of the ocean and stabbed the King of Evil in the head as a child do you really think he'd die easily in the Hunger Games? Anyways, I would say weapons wise Wind's greatest advantage is his fire, ice, and light arrows. While they do take magic, getting hit by any of those arrows would cause major damage if not instant death for any opponent. In addition to that, he would have a great advantage in any water-based terrain and his ability to manipulate the wind could be used in a number of circumstances as well. However, while he is very strong due to his power bracelets, his shorter physical stature would still likely put him at a disadvantage against larger opponents.

Linkâs Letters, the last Championâs Diary
The first few entries are old / posted before but I decided to post them all together in one place anyway!!
       Aryll,
       I know I havenât been able to see you for a while. I hope this letter makes up for it. People look at me differently lately. They treat me differently too. But I donât feel any different. Am I different to you too? ⊠Is it because of that sword?
       They say Iâm the reincarnation of the hero of legend. As such, it is my duty to fight and win against the beast that threatens Hyrule.
       That hero⊠he was said to have tremendous courage. He must have in order to face such a terrible demon. If thatâs the case, I donât feel like a hero either. But Iâll try. Iâll keep up a brave face for everyoneâs sake. Though, honestly, Iâm terrifiedâŠ
       P.S. Donât tell dad I said that.
       I met the BIGGEST Goron today. Though I canât tell whatâs bigger: him or his appetite. I never knew Gorons ate rocks either. Weird. He offered me to try something called ârock roastâ which is apparently a local delicacy on Death Mountain. Itâs⊠crunchy.
       Daruk is a very warm and friendly soul. It feels like you could have known him for ages when youâve only just met. I really like him, and the Gorons in general. Theyâre pretty straightforward people. Incredibly strong too. Daruk seems to think Iâve got Goron-like strength as well. Maybe if I eat more rocks I could be as strong as him one day.
       Itâs been so long since I last saw Lady Mipha. I heard that she was the one chosen to pilot Divine Beast Vah Ruta. To imagine her on the front lines of this battle⊠I was hoping to talk her out of it.
       When I arrived she told me about a Lynel on Polymus Mountain that has been terrorizing the Zora with its shock arrows. If you didnât already know, those arrows can be deadly to the Zora. So I set off straight away to deal with it but Mipha⊠she followed me. Despite how dangerous I insisted it was, she wouldnât turn back and we argued. I never knew she could raise her voice like that. The Lynel must have heard us and got the jump on us from behind. I took an arrow or two to the back though I didnât actually feel it until after the monster was long gone. Iâm alright, though, donât worry.
       Having Mipha there⊠her support means a lot to me. I donât know what Iâd do without her.
       Today we have all been formally appointed as Champions. After the ceremony, I wanted to see those relicsâthe Guardiansâup close. Theyâre meant to help us in our fight against Ganon, and⊠I have to say Iâm glad theyâre on our side. One of the ancient machines went out of control and started shooting a deadly beam at anyone who came close to it. I only had a pot lid to reflect its attack, but it worked!
       The king saw what happened and wanted to have a word with me. I thought he was upset because I broke one of the relics meant to save usâŠ
       As if being a Champion wasnât enough, it seems your brother is now the princessâs appointed knight.
       I should feel proud, shouldnât I? Itâs a great honorâŠ
       The princess and I have arrived at Rito Village. I bet you would love the Rito. They resemble birds, though I donât think they bear any relation to your cuccos. It may be rude to ask.
       Oh, but I did get to talk to the Rito Champion, Revali. Or⊠more like he talked to me and flew off. I canât help but feel he looks down on me for some reason. Maybe itâs because of his height. Or that he spends a lot of time in the sky. You would have no choice but to look down on people from up there.
        If I were up there, I would never look down. For the most part because Iâd just get terribly dizzy from the view. Do you remember when one of your birds got itself stuck on top of that old flagpole? I never want to climb anything like that again for as long as I live.
       We set out for Goron City today. The princess is intending to help Daruk with his control over Divine Beast Vah Rudania. Itâs really quite admirable how determined she is. When she sets her mind to something sheâs so focused on it, itâs like Iâm not even there⊠Or, rather I get the feeling she wishes I wasnât. Maybe Iâm overthinking it?
        Still, the first time she addressed me, she wanted to know about the sword. Of course. The old legends say there is a voice thatâs supposed to guide the chosen hero. She asked if I could hear it. I didnât know what to tell her. So I said nothing. But I imagine she already knew the answer⊠She must despise me.
       It was nice to see Daruk again. I wanted to ask him for some advice about⊠you know. Turns out he needed some help too. His control over his Divine Beast has been a little⊠rocky. Honestly how can a big guy like that be so hesitant? All he needed was a little push to get the boulder rolling. Now, his handle over Rudania is rock solid.
       By the way, the postman canât carry a whole rock roast all the way to Hateno for you. I asked. But I got you another Goron specialty: Goron Spice! Try it with some Hylian Rice and Goat Butter. Itâs delicious!
        I always had the feeling that the princess hated me, I just never realized how much she did. I donât know what to do. She does everything she can to get away from me, even travel alone despite the dangers. Sheâs made it very clear that she does not want my company, and yet itâs still my job to protect her. I canât disappoint the King.
       But⊠I canât stand being the reason sheâd put herself in danger in the first place. I guess I canât do anything right.
       I canât ask Lady Urbosa for help. I mean, you make a very good point, Aryll. But what do I tell the longtime friend of the Royal Family? âI lost the princess⊠again!â Sheâs way too smart for me to keep up. She does everything in her power to avoid me. And, worse, sheâs really good at it.
       Though, I suppose if she keeps abusing Gerudo Townâs laws to separate us, the one person who has any way to address it is the Chief of the GerudoâŠ
       I hate when youâre right.
       Itâs been days. Iâve searched every corner of this desert for the princess. Lady Urbosa said if she saw her sheâd send word immediately. I get the feeling she knows exactly where she is. At least I hope so. The Yiga Clan has been all too active lately. But if she stays with Urbosa, then I know sheâll be safe. I just have to trust her.Â
       Until then, Iâll stay close by at the Bazaar to keep an eye on things.
       That reminds me I got you something. Thereâs a lady in Gerudo Town who makes all kinds of jewelry from circlets to earrings to pendantsâdonât ask me how I got itâbut I hope you like it.
       Urbosa sent word last night that sheâd found the princess but today, just like that, she was gone again in an instant. By the time I caught up to her I was almost too late.
       Sheâs safe, now. A little shaken up, I think, but unharmed. Though this all started because she tries so hard to avoid me. I think⊠Tomorrow I should tell her⊠If she would rather have another knight accompany her, then I will send in my resignation to the King. Regardless of the shame and disappointment that will come with it. If my job is to protect her, then I have no other choice than to leave. She should be a lot happier with whoever ends up my replacement. Less inclined to run away too.
       She⊠apologized⊠for everything. I think I get it. The princess carries such a heavy burden, and she does it with her head held high. Sheâs working harder than all of us to stay ahead of this prophecy. Sheâs so brave. I wish I could be more like her in that regard.Â
       I could fight anything from lynels to hoards of moblins, but when it comes to⊠speaking⊠Thereâs so much I want to tell her. Iâve made up my mind, Iâm going to try.
       P.S. Maybe I should offer to cook for her? I could make her grandmaâs famous pumpkin stew! Do you think sheâd like it?
       Zelda is staying at the Castle today to further her studies. With the whole royal guard there, she granted me some time off. This time I know itâs not just to get rid of me. Iâll be home soon, but I hope you donât mind⊠I made a quick stop at Zoraâs Domain to see Mipha. She took a look at that scar from the attack on Death Mountain and healed it right up.
       Out of the blue, she started telling me about the namesake of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. Apparently itâs named after a Zora princess and one of the legendary sages from an age far older than the Great Calamity. Legend has it she fell in love with the Hylian hero of that time.
       Do you think my past life married a princess? I canât imagine.
       We got caught in a rainstorm by Lake Hylia. Â
       Iâll be honest. I used to hate this destiny stuff. But⊠sharing it with Zelda the Princess isnât so bad. As long as we have each other, we can face anything.
       By the way⊠How is father doing?
       Is it wrong to butt heads with the King? I guess thatâs a very stupid question. Of course it is. It isnât my place to interfere and yet⊠You have no idea how much I wanted to say something today. To stand up and tell him heâs wrong.
       Can they throw a Championâ a âhero of legendâ in jail for speaking out of turn? I donât know why that should even stopped me. I really am just too much of a coward.
       Itâll be Zeldaâs birthday in a couple days. Sheâs working harder than ever to unlock this sealing ability. The day she turns 17 sheâs heading straight for Mount Lanayru without even a momentâs rest.Â
       Thatâs right, youâre coming to Castle Town with father, arenât you? Itâs a national holiday, but the one person who doesnât get the time off to enjoy it is the one who needs it most. Maybe meeting you will cheer her up before we head out to the Spring of Wisdom. Iâm counting on you! Iâll see you soon.
Love, Link

My Life With COVID-19: Week 2âA Fitting End to 2020
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e69be4c028b28f4d4c8ec4f3978747ed/443d20a70ec678fd-4c/s400x600/f8548733728e4fca6e33f5ba51c5cd7efe2419ad.jpg)
Gosh, it feels like it's been a lifetime since I received my positive test results. In reality, it's not even been two weeks yet, but SO much has happened since then⊠Okay, maybe not exactly a lot of stuff. Not in the real world, anyway. But in my little micro-universe, it's felt like years. So let me pick up where I left offâwith my smell, or lack thereof.
I honestly had to get out a calendar to remember when I first noticed my adult beverage tasting like water. It was Wednesday, 12/16/20. And you know what? I worried (aka panicked) for nothing, because my sense of smell started coming back again by that Saturday. I think that's just a part of it thoughâthe worry. COVID definitely feels like a neurological virus. Ask anyone who's gone through it. The anxiety, depression, and confusion aren't just situational or societal. I've NEVER felt like that before. I didn't even realize it fully until the fog started receding on Saturday, but by Tuesday of the next week (12/21/20), the world was bright again⊠mostly because we decided to open our family Christmas present a few days earlyâŠ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6fc9c334d6e5d2e405159bcd1b10780b/443d20a70ec678fd-f8/s500x750/33748d67c71aca7bcce3e00c0582b5bde0d8e40c.jpg)
Okay, listen. If you were stuck at home for almost two weeks and you had a Nintendo Switch just sitting in a box doing nothin' for nobody, what would you do? You'd open the danged thing and cuddle up on the couch with your girls for hours on end, that's what. And that's exactly what I did, too. Even as my smell and braining powers were returning, I was exploring the Kanto region and catching ALL the Pokémon with my oldest daughter. Talk about escapism. But it was pure bliss. No work. No bills. No adulting whatsoever. Just me and Avery hunting down Team Rocket and making plans to take on the Elite Four. And that was BEFORE we opened Zelda and Animal Crossing on Christmas Eve (Thanks, Nana).
But I guess that's enough about video games, as I'm sure plenty of you are thinking about how silly it was to waste an entire week on such frivolousness. But until you've walked a mile in my quarantined and COVID-laden shoes, don't hate. As I've said before, being a work-a-holic is hard. And if I'm being honest, my quarantine was one of the best weeks I can remember and some of the most quality cuddle time I've ever spent with my family (I'm not going to waste time explaining the obvious, but suffice it to say that I'm NOT downplaying the virus. I was one of the lucky ones, and I know it. And that's exactly why Iâm so appreciative of the time I actually got to enjoy with my family). Unfortunately, all things must end, and quarantine is no exception.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/937954cd2759b559aab80dbe180c67b7/443d20a70ec678fd-18/s500x750/ac5ec7193d8a287d3cbb78894e63d1ee98181796.jpg)
Maybe it's just a me thing, but I have a horrible tendency to dread the end of every vacation (and even the end of weekends). It's the strangest thing. You see, I love my job. I really do. It's just that⊠I love not working even more. I love waking up slow. I love playing with my girls. I love having casual conversation with my wife instead of cramming it into an hour or so every evening. I love having time to make great dinners and other piddly little projects around the house. In short, I'm going to be a master at retirement⊠someday⊠hopefully. But for now, it's a constant struggle to keep my mind rightâto appreciate my amazing job and my other obligations that I truly am blessed to have the chance to participate in. And, as you can imagine, coming off of a ten-day quarantine was DEFINITELY a struggle.
Want to know the funny (obvious) thing? From the moment I stepped foot back in the clinic, work was good. Fun, even. Hard work, yes, but in a good way. It was fulfilling and refreshing to get back in the swing of things, to flex my still slightly mushy brain muscles, to use the skills I'd worked so hard to hone, to help people, to make a difference in the real world. Of course, a part of me still wanted to be in Kanto, Hyrule, Principia (my daughter's name for her Animal Crossing island), or you know, my house. But Desloge Sports and Rehab is a part of my lifeâa part of who I am. It provides me with the means to keep my family safe, happy, and healthy. And it provides me with the means to take vacations (and stay-cations), even if they're forced.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6c3cb12d5eba46b64cc38c819be90e08/443d20a70ec678fd-43/s500x750/3bd93ec590c091dcf571b9df83d04b4dc12610d9.jpg)
And so, I left the Nintendo Switch fantasy realm and returned to the real world, which apparently still had all kinds of problems. In quarantine, it's easy to avoid politics, corona virus (believe it or not), and every other source of pain, anger, divisiveness, and fear plaguing our planet right now. But the second I stepped out my front door, all of that baggage hit me right in the face. And that's when I realized that it's not work that I dread, it's the problems of the world. There are just SO many of those problems, and there are so many distractions and unknowns that make those problems seem so much worse than they already are. And 2020 has been the absolute king of distractions and unknowns. Thankfully, we're about to finally leave this nut-house year behind for good. But it comes with one last catch.
It's pretty obvious, but I'll spell it outâa new year doesn't magically close the doors on the previous year's problems. Life just keeps being life. It's US who move forward. It's us who make changesâwho take steps to climb out of the holes we've dug. And it's only if we take those steps that 2021 will be any better than 2020. And, unfortunately, those steps can't be taken in Hyrule, Kanto, or Principia. They have to be taken outside of our front doors.
So I survived COVID-19. A fitting end to another year of Raising Super Girl. It does feel a bit like an end-cap, actually. It makes it easier for me to take those steps, to welcome 2021 with open arms. But I'll save those plans for next week. For now, thanks for listening. Take corona virus seriously. Take family seriously. Take life seriously. But don't take any of it TOO seriously. After all, we can't leave our children to catch all the Pokémon by themselves, can we?

The Rising Sun: Ch 5. Power Exchanged
"Oh thank the goddesses we're here."
"I thought we'd never hear the prattle end from your grandfather about his glory days."
"Give him a break, he's old and just wants to give an impression that he can still kick ass."
"Can he still kick ass?"
"I... think so? To a degree? If you're close enough to hit with his cane, perhaps."
"Or his farts, those are lethal."
âOh, hush the lot of you.â Ganondorf, former King of Hyrule, had grown older with age. Man was just over a century of age. Even kept his build up over all the decades. Up until Zelda passed away. His wifeâs death shook him to the core, and over the last few years since her passing, he lost muscle mass. No need to work out, but also a loss of spirit. Still, he held joy for his family: children, grandchildren, friends. And this day was one of the most joyous heâd ever have in a long time.
With all his children and grandchildren finally gathered, with their significant others, they were traveling to Taiyo Town in a large caravan.
"We would have been here sooner if you didn't have to stop to pee ten times."
"Shut it, you were the one that kept complaining about being hungry."
"I was hungry! What's wrong with being hungry?"
"Ganonpa," Luimaya sighed in annoyance, listening to her siblings and cousinsâ bicker. "How did you do it with Dad and his siblings?"
âTo be honest, it was your grand mother that was the level headed one. I often encouraged some healthy bickering. Was also easy to haul you all by the scruffs when youâve been misbehaving. Also helped to have Rinku and Leere step in once in a while.â The Mortuus had a nice cloak to protect her skin from the sun. Sunny was letting little Joy play with Skyla. âWell that became difficult when all our younger siblings become rebellious giants.â
"Hmph, when you could catch us by the scruff, old man."
"Remember that time when we pranked him with the stink bomb with Skull Kid?"
"He chased us through the halls for hours before giving up."
"I told you it wasn't a good idea at the time."
"What do you mean, Lui? It was your idea."
"Yes, my idea, just not at that time. He was in a mood that day and we set it off."
"What are we even doing here, anyway? I thought the future queen couldn't leave the castle unless it was for diplomatic reasons."
"It is." Luimaya clarified. "I'm here to meet the leaders of Taiyo Town."
"But you're going to be the queen, and you're Gerudo. So, doesn't that make you their leader?"
Revan cleared his throat, sitting next to Nakeso and Luimaya. There were so many grandkids heâd barely known here now. Not to mention, he was finally about to enter the town his father put so much time and attention into. The whole feeling was daunting, but he did his best to relax. Heck, Kanisaâs kids didnât even look like Gerudo. âWell, yes and no. All the tribes of Hyrule ha e either sworn fealty to the crown of Hyrule or formed alliances. So technically, my father and anyone else whoâs in charge here could lead without outright obeying Covarog and later Luimaya.â
Luimaya and Ganondorf both shot Revan a glare at his words. Like grandfather, like granddaughter, it seemed. She definitely inherited his scowl. Evidently, the two of them agreed on the premise that the Gerudo of Taiyo Town should still hold some respect for the original King, his son, and granddaughter. "We don't want a repeat of the past, Revan. We're going to ensure it stays peaceful, but there has to be some grounds of respect." Luimaya told her bodyguard. "Your father or another leader, it matters not."
âI never suggested that.â Revan drew closer to Nakeso, freezing when his thigh touched hers. âAnd Iâm sure my dad isnât a fool. Just stubborn. Something Iâve heard and know you two can have in common.â
The cart laughed as Ganondorf merely smiled lightly in agreement. It wasnât something he could deny.
"That's right, you're the fool and he's just stubborn." Luimaya teased, earning another round of snickers from everyone in the caravan. "You've nearly gotten yourself killed numerous times, not counting the times you were trying to watch my back."
"I don't know who is the worst, Revan or you."
"Revan." The grandkids all responded in unisons.
"He has more tallies." Nakeso held up a notebook. "Revan has nearly gotten killed 158 times while Luimaya is only at 37."
"What? Really? I thought she'd have more."
"She's reckless, but she's not stupid enough to put herself in situations to die."
"True."
"Hey! Your future queen is hearing all this!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know it's true."
Revan was bright red in the face. âIt hasnât even been a year since- Wait, how long have you kept that book around for?â
"Since you were five and almost stuck your head into a forge to prove you were fireproof like your sister." Nakeso remarked, earning a snort from Donoma. "I still can't believe you did that."
"He was just jealous that I could walk in fire without getting burned." Donoma giggled. "And pouted when I held fire in my hands like a ball. Insisted he could do it too. I don't think I've ever seen Mama scold him like that for an hour."
Revan was growing uncomfortable. Pretty much every grandchild was not only older than him, Ralnorâs children themselves being in their mid thirties to cap the height of age, but they were all together on his misery. Even Donoma seemed to be more suited with them. âYeah. Sure.â When he saw Skyla looking at him, he sighed, secretly signing to her. â Least Iâm not afraid of spiders.â
"You in trouble. A lot." Skyla signed in return with a small smile. She was still shy, like she was when a tiny girl, but had opened up to her cousins and was flourishing in her studies to be a veterinarian. "But good fighter. Luimaya lucky to have you. Don't worry. Everyone loves you. Just tease you cause love you."
âCould fool me.â
âHey yaâll!â Rinku shouted from the front of the horse cart. âWeâre here. You all behaving back there? Hate to turn this ride around~â
"Hey, if we're not behaving, it's only because we learned it from you." Covarog snickered.
Orana jested with him. "Yeah, you tell her."
âWell, you got me there.â They could hear the putter patter of her feet walking on the sand to the doors. Opening them, sunlight poured inside. âTo those unaccustomed by desert heat, please apply sunscreen thatâs been provided. This mostly applies to my gothic sister pale as a vampire and Kanisaâs one eyed, blue skinned, always a pleasurable attitude husband and my adorable nephew and niece from Uskar. My sister in law Sunny has provided sun hats for those who prefer them.â
"Is your sister always this cheery?" Vidar grumbled in Uskarian to Kanisa. He absolutely loathed the desert and the heat. The poor man looked miserable. "I don't see how it's possible with all this sand and sun."
"Just deal with it a little while longer please, love." Kanisa assured her husband. "We'll be back in Uskar soon enough."
"If I don't melt first."
Leere addressed Skyla and Joy together with Tebanem. âSince youâre both the youngest, Iâd like you both to stay together at all times. Stay within eyeshot of an adult.â
"Hey! I'm not a kid." Tebanam huffed. "I'm an adult!"
"She means Skyla and Joy, Teb." Faris clarified, amused, to his husband. "She doesn't want them wandering off."
"Oh."
The shit eating grin on Leereâs face filled up until she couldnât help but keel over in laughter. âIf you need the advice of the oldest siblings, talk to me or Luimaya, Tebby. Iâm sure Kanny will love to be your pair buddy~â
"Oh shut it, I knew what you meant, I was just joking." Tebanam refused to look her in the eye, crossing his arms.
Once all the others had stepped outside, Ganondorf made his way out of the cart. It had been too long since he breathed desert air and tasted life upon the winds. With light robes he turned to the massive walls of the town. Was like a fortress. âImpressive.â The gates opened as Revan and Donoma handed out passes to the men that their father had given them in advance. What awaited inside amazed the old king. Gerudo of all shapes and sizes interacting as a community. Everyone of them shouted out one big greeting when they saw the family gathering. âVASAAQ!!! SAVâAAQ!!!â
Revan himself blinked, surprised by how many red headed women there were. He looked at his sister surprised. âYouâve been coming here?â
"Yeah, what of it?" Donoma was taken aback by her brother's surprise. "I've learned a lot about our history. Mama taught me all I needed to know of what we had of Lorleidian history. Dad taught us what he knew of Gerudo history, but there's only so much he can teach. The rest of it needs to be experienced. Besides," She waved at a few of her friends. "I've made a lot of progress in my studies and I have friends here. It's nice to have a second home."
âMust be nice.â Revan couldnât help but let his bitterness out. Was he not Gerudo enough to belong here? The man of the hour appeared. Malik opted for stylized, yet comfortable robes. Beside him, Gali was wearing a nice Vai dress. The Lord of Taiyo Town smiled to Zarazu before addressing the group as a whole. âMy extended family, and royal family of Hyrule. I am honoured that you can finally see the hard work all of our generations have worked towards. The Gerudo people prosperous once again. I welcome you to Taiyo town.â
Each family member extended their greeting politely before the King spoke. "I am impressed by the amount of work here, and absolutely delighted that we finally are able to see the restoration of our people." Covarog then noted Gali. "Please let me to express my thanks in allowing Lord Malik to help you oversee the construction of Taiyo Town. May I present my wife, Queen Zarazu of the Lorleidians," He gestured to his lover. "And my children. Marena and Syrena are the youngest twins, then Zahirog, then Turagor and Luimaya are my eldest. My Luimaya is next in line to rule our kingdom."
Gali bowed her head politely to Luimaya. âIt is a privilege to learn the next high Queen will be a Gerudo Woman on the throne. Strong, and fiery from what Donoma has told me in her studies. You will make a remarkable queen, Iâm sure. We encourage you to explore Taiyo Town on your own. We want to be an organic experience for all of you.â
"It is a privilege to be here in your town, to learn more of my history and to walk with the fierce warriors that I have read so much about in books. I feel like this is something out of a fairy tale, even though I know it's simply history." Luimaya returned a respectful nod of her head to Gali. "I ask that you teach me, my siblings, and cousins all that you know and anything you wish for us to learn; whether it be ways of combat or simple knowledge." Then the future queen gestured to Skyla. "I ask you have patience with my family, but especially my cousin, Skyla. She is deaf and reads lips. I don't suppose any of you know sign? She can write in Gerudo, but that takes a time." "Hi!" Skyla signed to Gali with a bright smile. "I do read lips, but accents make lips move odd. Please talk slowly for me." Luimaya then translated, "She is greeting you and asking for you and the other members of the town to speak slower for her, to give her time to read your lips."
Gali nodded, addressing the town in Gerudo to look out for the little one. Turning to Skyla, she got on a knee to kneel down to her and speak in Sign. âHello Skyla. I am Gali. I think Iâve met you and your fatherâs people on my travels before. Hard to forget a tribe as pretty as you.â
"You tall lady." Skyla motioned to the women surrounding Gali. "All tall. Garai women like me, not so tall. Sister tribe, you come visit sometime." She then stomped the sand with her foot and made a sailing wave with her arm. "Ride Sand Rays! Learn of Gerudo now. You learn of Garai too. Too much time pass without sister tribe. Sand here. Stone there. Much to know." "Skyla, don't sign so fast, she might not get it all." Tebanam hopped down from his camel, Loogie, and signed to his daughter. "They go slow for you, you go slow for them. Not too fast." Skyla blushed and sheepishly signed, "Sorry. Excited!"
"That's more than fine Skyla. We'll get to learning about each others culture very quickly." Gali patted Skyla on the shoulder as she stood up. "We have tour guides in green patched shoulders who'd love to take you around our markets, bars, training grounds, schools, saunas, spas, and the rest of the joyous spots in Taiyo Town. If you'd like to explore on your own that's fine too. I hope you all enjoy the joys Taiyo Town can bring!"
Ganondorf was lost in thought as he looked around the town. While Gali was addressing the crowd, he watched small Gerudo children kick a ball back and forth. A woman was beating an old styled blanket he used to wrap himself in previous lives from her balcony. And there was a Hylian in the background laughing with a Gerudo. A union he had been working hard since with his wife to normalized. A view he knew his cousin had struggled to come to grips with. Yet here they were.
~
Donoma was struggling to pull her brother through the throng of women. This was a headache. She kept politely asking for the ladies to step aside, but they were more interested in talking to Revan. "Girls... girls, for fuck's sake!!!" Donoma shouted over the crowd. "You can feel his pecs later, we're going to see my mom now."
âCome on Donoma! This is the virgin brother you have! Canât we just, you know, kiss him. For homework purposes?â Her roommate asked in a little sexy voice for her brother.
Revan wasnât expecting so many of the girls around Donomaâs age to be so horny. This wasnât the type of attention he wanted. âI have someone else...â
"No. At least, not now. Later." Donoma yanked Revan into the tent that her mother and father shared. Finally, maybe the crowd would go away. "Damn vultures, I swear..."
"Revan!" Asakonigei was on bed rest, currently trying her hand at knitting and failing miserably. Although, her face lit up when she saw her son and daughter. "Donoma! I'm so happy you're both here!"
âMom!â Revan ran forward, hugging her close. âAre you ok? I canât believe Dad got you pregnant again.â
"I'm fine, Revan, just a little uncomfortable with all this extra weight." Asakonigei hugged her son tightly. "We were not exactly planning this, but nonetheless, it happened. I've been very well cared for while I've been here."
"Do you know what the baby is now?" Donoma asked her mother. "I've been wanting to know for so long!"
"Yes, actually, I do know the baby is going to be." Asakonigei smiled widely. "You're both going to have a little brother."
"Queen Zarazu birthed three Gerudo boys and now, I suppose I'm lucky to have a second one." Asakonigei then added. "Though your father and I have been at odds about a name."
âYou have?â Revan sat beside her, wanting to not leave her side. Been months since he saw his mother.
"Get a load of this," Donoma plopped onto the bed, opposite to Revan, their mother in the middle. "Dad says he wants another Gerudo name, but Mom is insisting on a combination between Gerudo and Lorleidian since my name is Lorleidian and yours is Gerudo."
"It's only fair." Asakonigei defended her point. "I doubt I'm having another baby, so half it, right?"
âWell knowing father, he most likely doesnât want a Frankenstein name put together.â
"It's not that bad, I don't think." Donoma shrugged her shoulders. "Mufratir is all right, isn't it?" Asakonigei asked her son.
Revan couldnât hide his displeasure at the name as his face contorted at the corners. âKeep it simple?â
"Or she could go all out like Zarazu and Covarog did with Zahirog and name the kid Malikonigei." Donoma snorted.
"Oh, hush you!" Asakonigei gently shoved at Donoma's shoulder.
âCould call him Dadâs first name?â Revan pondered on the possibilities.
"One Malik in the world is enough, the world has enough stubbornness." Asakonigei laughed.
"The world didn't need even more with Revan, what have you done, Mom?"
"Your brother is not that bad."
"He went into a match without magic."
"That's just his ego."
âExcuse me?!â The comment of the world not needing him stung Revan to his core. âIâm sorry I tried to prove that I had value in the skills I crafted for myself. Iâm sorry Iâm not daddies favourite child!â
"Oh, stop being a brat." Donoma snapped at Revan. "You know that's not what I meant. I implied the world doesn't need more of your 'I'm-undefeatable' attitude." She then scoffed and said, "Favorite? Dad doesn't choose favorites, but if you really believe that's true, it's only because I actually listen and behave."
"Hush, you two, stop fighting." Asakonigei scolded both of her children. "I shall not have you two fighting in front of me or your father. He has enough to worry about as it is."
âOh you know what, fuck dad too. Too important with all of this to give a damn about me.â Revan gestured all around the village with wide arms. âSkipping dinners, celebrations, and ceremonies to be here. Except while Iâm stuck out busting my ass, he chooses you to live here with him. Youâre probably aware heâs never once invited me here.â
"He didn't choose me to live with him here, you dumbass! I'm a woman, for starters, and at least I look Gerudo!!!" Donoma spat back at Revan. "He's trying his best to rebuild some semblance of what our ancestors lost! If you're so upset about not receiving a personal invitation, it's not Dad's fault! The Gerudo women here don't trust men! The only reason they trust Dad is because he is Gerudo!"
"ENOUGH!!!" Asakonigei shouted so loud that Revan's ears and Donoma's rang something fierce. "If the both of you are going to squabble like children, then you can do so elsewhere! I do not need the stress of seeing you two fight and neither does your little sibling! Out! Right now!"
"But Mom---"
"I said, OUT!!!"
âYou hit the nail exactly on the head. In his eyes Iâm not Gerudo. And if I am, Iâll only carry the worst aspects. So how about you go crawl back to your sisterhood like the good little girl you are.â Revan looked to his mom, daring to glare at her something fierce. âA baby will kill you. Why would you risk putting us through something like that?â
"At least I don't follow around a girl who doesn't love me!" Donoma shot back. "Luimaya will never like you in that aspect and you think being her bodyguard will make her view you as some romantic hero? You're an ass." With that, Donoma tromped out of the tent.
Asakonigei gave Revan a hard stare. "I had complications with you, I lost too much blood with Donoma, and yet, both of you are still here and alive." Asakonigei said very sternly. "Your father and I didn't plan this. I did not even think I could get pregnant again with the trauma my body suffered. Yet, this baby is growing within me and will need you and your sister. I would gladly die for you and Donoma, and this baby. It's part of me and part of your father, and will be your sibling. Don't you dare patronize me, son."
âIs this because you want to give father his large family. You really think itâll be fair to the baby to grow up in a world without a mother?â Revan sat down next to her, disbelief wrapped around his face. âYou think thatâs fair to me and Donoma to lose you for another one of fatherâs grand dreams? Honestly, are you even thinking properly here?â
"No, I don't think it's fair. Not for me, not for you, not for your sister or father, and certainly not the baby." Asakonigei stated as her son sat beside of her. "As I said previously, your father nor I planned this. It simply happened. And I am thinking very clearly. I am a mother. You will not be able to understand until you have children of your own, Revan. I want this baby to be born surrounded by love regardless of what happens to me. I may or may not survive... but at least this time, I will have more help."
âHow? What makes you believe that? Your body will kill you. Dr. Bovier made that perfectly clear.â
"Yes, Doctor Boveir did. Yet, these women believe differently. So now, the only thing I have left is faith."
âFaith? Are you out of your mind?â Revan sneered at the very thought. âWe should just get on our hands and knees and pray? Or perhaps we should get some shaman to throw flowers on top of you.â
"Don't. Patronize. Me." Asakonigei yanked her son forward by the collar of his armor. She was pregnant, but still strong enough to get Revan's attention. "I prayed to Kovina for you. You are here. If you are going to be like this, then you can leave. I will not have your attitude around myself or your new sibling-to-be when the time comes. Either you can support me, or go. What is it going to be?"
âIâll leave when her royal highness deems it ready to go.â He held her hand, his fingers gentle, yet firm on her. His eyes were angry, but his lips trembled small hesitation. âI donât want Klingeâs ego to take you away from me.â
"... you know I'll fight the Goddess of Death to stay here with you." Asakonigei held the side of his face with a small sigh. "If you don't have faith in the deities, at least have faith in me. Your mother is a tough old woman."
Revanâs eyes were heavy as he slowly nodded in agreement. âAlright...â Careful to not hurt her, he hugged his mother closely. âI donât trust Father to look after you. So you have to be strong enough to look after yourself.â
As Revan hugged her, Asakonigei slowly stroked the back of his hair, trying her best to soothe him. "I have a lot of women here ready to help me. I'll have help, Revan. And if you decide to stay for a little while, then you can help me too."
Revan choose to ignore that last part. âI hope they can help you...â
~
The first day of the royal family visit was going smoothly. Malik was incredibly proud of his people. Seeing Luimaya, he waved the girl and her siblings over. âYoung princess. Princes and princessâ. How are you this afternoon?â
Luimaya had been exploring the town with her siblings and cousins. All of them were currently enjoying a recipe of the Gerudo heritage. Poor Turagor was coughing from the spiciness, the younger twins barely batted an eye, and Zahirog merely nibbled on his, trying to save face. "This is... a different experience for sure. It's not exactly what I've read in books." Zahirog admitted to Malik.
"I guess history left out a few parts." Turagor said in-between sputters from the spicy chicken leg.
"I really enjoyed seeing such beautiful custom clothes!" Marena smiled.
"And hearing the music!" Syrena added.
Luimaya stayed silent for a while, thinking. "Though... Ganonpa won't stay here to lead them." She then asked. "So I suppose Gail is going to?"
âGanondorf is too old to lead. The man has lived long enough for this lifetime to be a ruler. Gali certainly makes a qualified Chieftain in my absence.â
The siblings exchanged glances.
"... you?" Zahirog appeared to be confused. "You're a man. I thought the Gerudo wanted a female leader like Nabooru in the old days?"
âThere have been Kings and Queens in our past too.â
"Yeah, though Zahi and Turagor needed a pass just to come in here." Marena noted. "So... it's safe to assume they're not too trusting of men." Syrena pointed out to her uncle.
"I know Mom and Dad will probably want to talk to them about keeping good ties with Hyrule." Luimaya told Malik. "I know Dad is King and a descendant of Ganondorf, so surely there will be peace from here on out."
âThatâs something we are working out. I just donât want these people to be taken advantage of.â Malik smiled softly, speaking gently to them all. âJust how I didnât want your father, uncles, aunts and all of you taken advantage. History can sometimes be tricky and like to repeat itself.â
"Do you think they'll allow Lorleidians here too? Maybe some Hylian civilians?" Luimaya inquired. "For trading purposes?"
âYes. Itâs what I want. Itâs what we are already trying to integrate. Look closely, and youâll be able to spot one or two amongst the town even now.â
"As long as there is prosperity and peace, that's what matters the most." Luimaya stated.
"Though, I really wish you wouldn't stay here."
"Yeah, the castle would fall apart without you." Turagor remarked as he chugged down some water, trying to wash away some of the spiciness of the chicken. "I mean, you did keep our aunts and uncles from arguing all the time. Sort of."
"I think what he's trying to say is you're a peacemaker and we don't want anymore food fight incidents between Uncle Corsaire and his crew against the Hylian guards." Zahirog blanched. "I was pulling noodles out of my hair for weeks."
âChildren...â Malik tried to sound soft to counteract how tired he was of this particular conversation. âIâve been a peacemaker before your parents were even born. If you still need to rely on my guidance, I fear for the stability of Hyrule.â
"What they're trying to say is, they're going to miss you if you stay here." Marena clarified.
"Yeah. It would suck, cause we wouldn't get to see you as often." Syrena added to her twin's statement.
âYour Aunt Kanisa lives a whole ocean away. Iâm still less then a days travel away. Besides, distance makes the heart grow fonder.â He gently patted Syrena on the shoulder.
"Yeah, but at least she has a dragon to bring her here to see us." Syrena sulked slightly. "If you move away, you might not come back cause Uncle Ralnor annoys you."
"We all know that Uncle Ralnor can annoy anyone with his 'proper-ness'." Marena snickered. "I hold my pinky finger out when I sip tea, look at me, I'm so proper." The siblings did exchange giggles at that mentioning.
âWhat? You canât travel here to see me?â
"We can but who knows when we'll be able to." Luimaya admitted with a heavy sigh. "Come on, Uncle Malik. Even Mom and Dad don't get out of the palace that much. You know that."
"And when Lui becomes queen, it will be harder for to do so." Turagor frowned slightly. "Maybe for us if we have to stay at home too."
"At least we have each other." Zahirog noted. "That's what counts."
"But on a lighter note, Mama told us that Aunt Asa is pregnant again." Marena smiled. "What are you going to name the baby?"
"Is it a boy or a girl?" Syrena asked.
âI donât know yet.â Malik didnât want to know, least, not quite yet. Sighing, he figured out how to approach their worries. âThe same way home will keep you busy in central Hyrule, my home here will keep me busy. This is simply part of life though children.â
"We know." Zahirog shrugged, holding his siblings together with his arms around their shoulders. "Though you better find the time to visit if we do."
âI-â Malik saw Ganondorf from afar. The man held an expression of light urgency, waving the Lord with the wrist of a hand. âIf you will excuse me children.â
Reaching Ganondorfâs side, Malik still felt slightly humbled in his presence. âIs something the matter?â
âNo. Not at all. However, there is something of great importance I wish to discuss with you.â
âI understand.â
âI think privately will be best.â
Privately? This intrigued Malik. âVery well. Inside the eyes of the goddess statue then?â Ganondorf looked to the edge of the town where a giant woman of stone observed the town.
âYou can go inside?â
âYes. I made it a place of pray and to chronicle our people.â
âHow spiritual of you. Letâs not waste time. Still a night of celebration to share.â The two Gerudo men reminisced on their shared past as they made their way to the temple. Inside, Ganondorf and Malik took their seat in front of a mural of great Gerudoâs past. âCousin, donât think me rude, but I invited two others.â
"I swear, if Malik wanted me to drag my ass in here for another stupid test of his, I'mma choke him. Getting too old for that."
"Now, now, Rinku, I'm sure he just wants to talk without a ton of eyes upon us."
"I'm serious, I'm so over these tests of his, Zarazu! At least he learned his lesson with you."
"How so?"
"... you took the man's arm; he should be grateful you didn't take his dick." Rinku and Zarazu had no idea that the words in the temple could... echo.
Ganondorf turned to daughter as she made herself visible with Zarazu. âColourful vocabulary.â Malik was surprised to see Zarazu and Rinku together. âI didnât expect you both to be here.â
"You invited us?" Zarazu held a tone of questioning to her voice. "Unless I misunderstood, you wanted to meet with the holders of the Tri-Force?"
"Hey, I've heard worse from you, Ganondad." Rinku pointed a finger at Ganondorf.
âI did.â
âWhat is this all about?â Malik stiffened, uncertainty filling his being. His words said otherwise, but deep down his heart knew why they were all gathered now.
Ganondorf changed his gaze over to Malik, a deep and heavy look falling on him. âWe are here to talk about The Triforce of Powerâs new owner.â
Silence was cast over the room, and a shocking realization hit Malik now it was in the open air. âMe?â
"...?! WHAT?!" Rinku shook her head. "Wait, I thought Covarog was supposed to get the Tri-Force? He's next in line, no offense, Malik."
"I am... surprised myself." Zarazu stated slowly, not expecting this. "Might I ask why?"
âRinku...â Ganondorf waiter until his eldest daughter was a little calmer before continuing. âEvery child of mine, with the exception of you, carries a seed of darkness that I share. I fear the Triforce might corrupt them as it corrupted me.â
"Corrupt them?!" Rinku took offense to that. "All your kids are the best of you and Mom. Do you truly think that if you give the Tri-Force to Covarog that he'll turn dark?" She then said, "If you don't want to trust Covarog with it, then give it to Ralnor. Hell, give it to Orana or Kanisa, even Teb! They're not going to be corrupted! None of them are part of this curse that you, Mom, and I have repeated!"
âNo. They both struggle with darkness in their choices. And I wonât expose Orana, Kanisa, or Tebanem to temptation of abuse. I need someone whoâs motives are incorruptible. That knows the weight of true magic and power.â
"You have so little faith in them! Look at how much they all have overcome!" Rinku frowned and gestured to Zarazu. "They're married. They have families. They're happy! And not once ounce of lust for power within them! And you think Malik is the one? Good goddesses, look at what you both have done in the past!" Rinku exclaimed. "Look at how much bloodshed both of you have on your hands! He's a carbon copy of you, Ganondorf! This is not a good idea!"
âHave we not redeemed ourselves? Has he not suffered enough under my hands as much as any of my other past victims? He rose from being my tool to regaining his humanity.â Ganondorf sent a penetrating look at his daughter. âWhatâs more, he has never broken my trust. Even in the deepest depths of depravity he was always honest with his intentions.â
"Yeah, he regained his humanity, but not due to you." Rinku remarked with a glare of her own. "Due to her," She motioned to Zarazu, and then added, "And his wife. What do you think will happen if they're no longer around to keep him in check? Do you want me to have to strike him down like I had to do you in our past lives if he loses control?"
âI regained it due to me wanting my humanity back. I worked hard for it. I earned it.â Malik was about done with the hero talking down on him. âYou speak as though you arenât without blood on your hands. So many of your past lives ended entire bloodlines due and the ramifications can still be felt today. We keep each other in check. I was kept around to keep you in check since you were a child. So donât patronize me.â
"I know I have blood on my hands and I regret my actions. Yet, I've never been influenced by power. That's your lot. You still seek it today, and you're blind to it." Rinku shook her head. "I don't agree with this. When Chaos comes, he'll use it against you to turn you to his side and you'll end up fighting with Luimaya instead of with her. I'm out of here." The heroine tromped out of the cave, steaming. Zarazu, on the other hand, had remained silent the entire time. Thinking.
Malik couldnât help but laugh at the old Princess. Even now, she still had a young spirit. âYouâre going down to a dead end.â
As she stomped around, Ganondorf was less amused. âRinku. You arenât being fair here. As Zelda trusted Zarazu, I trust Malik. Please... sit.â The old king was also tired. He didnât want to argue this point.
Rinku was done with this conversation and refused to be a part of it further. She turned around, found another tunnel, and exited the cave to prove her point and kept walking.
"Maybe we should give her some space to think as well." Zarazu suggested, trying to keep Rinku and Ganondorf from arguing again as her sister-in-law left the temple.
âSheâll have to accept it.â With Rinku gone, Ganondorf sighed. âSheâs in the dark, but I know youâre no fool to Ralnorâs darker actions in protecting Hyrule, even now. And for my eldest, I wasnât completely sure until I heard Malik show Zannah respect where Covarog couldnât let go of it his hatred of the Hasai. That is ultimately why I choose Malik over your husband Zarazu. Malik has shed his hate.â
Malik looked softly at Zarazu, wondering what she was thinking. âRupee for your thoughts?â
"I can understand Rinku's view and your view, because I'm trying to be fair from a standpoint." Zarazu admitted to the men. "I'm well aware that my husband has flaws. Everyone does, we're human. However, I do think you should tell Covarog why he is not getting the Tri-Force of power. I won't lie, I'm sure it will hurt him. He has been looking forward to succeeding you in being a carrier because he wants to make you proud." She then continued, "Though, if Malik has the Tri-Force, I know you trust him and I know that he has more respect for the Hasai than my husband. I cannot help but wonder if you too will be immune to the temptation of power, my oldest friend." The queen was wise, for sure, though still cautious. "Many times in history, power has corrupted... are you sure that it's temptation will not affect you like it has Ganondorf?"
âI donât know for sure. Thatâs why I want my friends and family to keep me honest. To use a seat and source of power for the betterment of all people.â Malik glanced over to Ganondorf, a sudden frown on his face. âIf you give me your greatest source of power, you will lose your immortality. You might not live for long.â
âWho wants to live forever? No. Not me. As for Covarog, he knows how plenty proud I am of him.â
Finally, Ganondorf stood up from his bench. âZarazu. I want your support on this. Do you think Malik is a good man? Do you think he can wield power in the name of peace?â
"... I do believe Malik is a good man. I do believe he sincerely wants the best for our people, for the Gerudo as well. Though, as said previously, there is always temptation." Zarazu looked at her own hand. There she saw the slight glow of the Tri-Force piece of Wisdom, reminding her there were always two sides to every tale. Those years ago before Zelda's death, she entrusted the Lorleidian queen with the Tri-Force of Wisdom. She did not want her daughters to carry the burden and trusted Zarazu to keep it safe. "Though we are only human, Ganondorf. Sometimes, even I feel the slight pull of the Tri-Force, calling me to use it. To dip into that magical essence that is so pure and addictive, that I have to be careful. I resist it for the sake of my family, my friends, and my kingdom." She held up her fingers glowing with magic. "If you want my support, and my utmost trust... then I must ask that we form a bind. This way, no matter where these pieces may end up... we will not let them fight against one another again." The queen then stated. "We'll revoke this curse."
âI can agree to that. If the pieces of the Triforce, ever, ever need to come together, then it will be for a wish of healing to the people.â Malikâs breath didnât hitch as he reached a hand out to Zarazu to shake on this sacred pact.
"Not to destroy, but for peace." Zarazu took Malik's hand. "No longer destruction, but healing."
âFor love, not hatred.â
"Agreed." Zarazu used her magic to implement the contract of the binding. A ring of runes in the Lorleidian language formed on her wrist and Malik's, identical in nature. "And if we break it... we die."
Malik nodded. When finished, he seemed almost somber when he spoke. Perhaps now was the time to tell his friend. âYou should know that Iâm not coming back to Hyrule. This is my home. With my people. They want to elect me to the position of Gerudo King. The sworn guardian. Iâve waited to be here again since I was a boy.â
"... I know." Zarazu simply replied to her friend. "I want you to be happy. Though I must be blunt with my next question." She took a small breath and said, "When the time comes... you will still remain loyal to my daughter?"
âI will be a friend that she can rely on.â
"She will need you." Zarazu actually looked... concerned. "As much as that snake gives me the creeps, I cannot deny his magic or his status. He said it will be soon... and I am worried."
âThe Triforce bearers and the sages will need to protect the world.â Ganondorf stretched out, taking a deep breath. âAre you both prepared for that?â
"I am prepared for that. I am ready to give my life if it means my family will be safe." Zarazu clasped her hands together, her gaze downcast. "I am not ready to... to sacrifice my daughter. If what Bonegrinder says is true, and... his prophecy is correct..." It was hard for her to speak the words. "I've seen what has happened to Bonegrinder's mind. It is warped. He shares two souls in one body. He is a host for a deity and no longer his original self... if that happens to my Luimaya..."
âBonegrinder is a freak. I wonât let him or anyone else hurt your daughter Zarazu.â
"... I trust you." Zarazu sighed, still thinking of what the future could hold. "I do think you need to check on Asa, Malik. From what Nakeso overheard when she went to take your wife some food from Gail, Revan and Donoma were... disagreeing."
âIt is.â Ganondorf took a few sound breaths. Opening his right palm, a feint and soft glow emerged as a small golden triangle appeared. There was no celebration of grand ceremony behind it. The earth didnât shake, and the sky didnât change colour. It simply appeared. Ganondorf gently handed it to Malik to hold with both hands. âTake it.â
Zarazu simply waited in slight apprehension. She did not know what would occur once Malik took the piece.
Ganondorf stepped back as his cousin held the Triforce. Malik didnât expect it to feel so warm, like a campfire. But with a squeeze of his right fist around it, he felt his heart light in a blaze of might. The Triforce connected to him physically, mentally, and spiritually. His breath felt freer, and he felt more alive then ever. One his palm, the triangle of the Triforce emerged from nothing, looking like tattoo. The top triangle lightly glowed, signifying the merger was a success. Malik, son of the desert and blade of the Gerudo, was now the weirder of Power.
"... Malik?" Zarazu finally spoke. "Are you all right?"
"I can relate." Zarazu took a slow inhale. It seemed he was still himself... for now. Maybe the fail-safe spell was keeping everything in check. Maybe Rinku was wrong and Malik would not be corrupted. Yet, personally, though she might not admit it, Zarazu was not willing to take that chance when it came to her daughter. If he tried to use it for evil... no, it was best not to think about it.
Malik took a few moments to self reflect. With the Triforce, he felt connected to life and magic on a deeper level in a near instant. To be truthful, it suddenly became overbearing. âI think I need to sit down.â
Zarazu formed a chair of ice for him to sit upon in the cave. "... the magic is overwhelming for a new holder." The queen then offered. "I can help you channel it for a bit to get you used to it."
âGive me a moment. I just need to adjust.â
"Close your eyes and try to imagine the flow of the magic." Zarazu instructed Malik, trying to make it easier for him. "You feel it within you, within your surroundings, and others... let it talk to you."
âCousin, imagine the Triforce as a heart within you. It beats within you as a generator of life and magic. Ease into it. Should be similar to the magic you know.â
Malik nodded, feeling deep within and focusing on himself. Over the course of five minutes the man finally felt he had control over the new weight of his soul. âIâll be fine now.â
"All right... let's just walk slow then. We'll need to help Ganondorf."
Malik took another breath, looking down at the yellow triangle burned upon his hand. He knew in his heart of hearts this was the key to bringing glory to the Gerudo and all of Hyrule. Â

Warrior
So not procrastinating on schoolwork :) Anywho, yet another Linked Universe fanfic I wanted to write. This AU belongs to Linked Universe and Jojo56830! I should probably add that while I do own the game, I have never finished Hyrule Warriors, so I donât quite know what the background for it is and whatnot. I own nothing but my own writing.ïżœïżœ
~~~~~~~
If there was any other name Warrior loathed more than Ganonâs, it was his own. When heâd met the other Links and Wind explained their need for nicknames, he was automatically given âWarrior,â and Warrior hated it. At first, Four had suggested âCaptain,â but Warrior flatly refused it. That name brought to mind memories he had no wish of acknowledging.
Now, he was stuck with âWarrior,â and he found himself struggling with it more and more. It was a name heâd never imagined he would take upon himself. A name that was accompanied by nothing but grief, betrayal, and pain...Â
But it was also a name that brought hope, reassurance, and light.Â
A name so full of precious memories Warrior wanted to keep close to his heart and cherish, but also full of remembered sorrow and loss.
Call it nostalgia or reminiscence, he didnât care. To the Links, it was nothing more than a name, but to Warrior, it was everything but a name.Â
Wind looked up to him, others relied on him for strategy and orders...Not to mention the group saw him as a pompous, arrogant, your-typical-everyday soldier. They didnât know. They had no clue who he really was. They only recognized and saw him by this façade heâd put in place to keep them from noticing the truth.Â
And heâd done darn well. An excellent job, if he did say so himself.Â
Warrior could see them, however.Â
Legend, for all his snarkiness, sarcasm, and wit was a strong but broken soul trudging through life. Someone who had seen and done more than they could ever imagine.Â
Wind was their beacon of light. Always so bright, cheerful, and upbeat. He could bring a smile to everyoneâs faces with his happiness. It was contagious. He was always so optimistic, but when the time called for it, Wind would become serious and ready for a fight to protect, honor, and defend. He was so young, and he had already seen so much.Â
âIâm fourteen!â Warrior remembered Wind happily declaring when heâd been asked his age. Heâd worn a toothy smile, eyes sparkling, and Warrior felt a pang in his heart. How could he be so bright and happy?Â
Heâd been twelve when heâd set out to rescue his sister and defeat Ganondorf.Â
A child!Â
Sky was the most skilled swordsman of their group. He was a kind and gentle, quiet, person. Soft spoken and understanding. He was the person that if anyone were to even look at him, they would instantly know they liked him.
If Warrior was envious of anything, it was Skyâs ability to fall asleep wherever and whenever he wanted. How did he manage that?Â
Four was an enigma to Warrior. He was small, but he was not to be underestimated. There were times Warrior would look to the Hero and find him smiling or scowling for some unknown reason and sometimes, Warrior could swear his eyes would change color. At night, when Warrior would take watch, Four would mutter and argue in his sleep.Â
With himself.Â
It was a mystery he had yet to solve.Â
Hyrule was directionally challenged. This, the Links caught onto almost immediately. The Hero could not go anywhere without getting lost. He was also someone who was unaccustomed to company. Warrior could tell with the hesitant and almost shy way in which he would interact with them and try to integrate with the group. It had taken him time to grow accustomed to camping and sleeping around eight other Heroes.Â
Warrior gave a small smile. The Links could care less about how a person was. They accepted everyone. Welcomed them. If they kept Legend around, then Hyrule had no need to fear about his place with them.Â
Warrior would have snickered.Â
Twilight was a man of few words. He spoke only when he needed to or felt like it. He spoke little of his adventure, only sharing snippets here and there. He was scarily protective of Wild, and that protection extended to Wind and Four seeing as they were the youngest of the group. Warrior often heard Wild claim Twilight acted more of a big dog than he would ever realize, and Warrior had to agree.Â
He even growled.Â
Wildâs name fit the Hero perfectly. He was an adventurer. A wanderer. Someone adept to surviving in the wilderness. He rarely spoke and the Heroes never pressed him to. There was no doubt in Warriorâs mind that Wild had once been a Knight. He held himself like one more than he realized and fought like one. He was skilled in using multiple weapons and quick to observe. If there was anything Warrior couldnât deny, it was Wildâs ability to whip up a meal out of whatever resources were available.Â
Legend was...well, Legend. Snarky, sarcastic, and outspoken. He rarely kept his thoughts to himself, and was honest- sometimes brutally so. He was wary of others and slow to trust. He kept a close eye on his belongings and possessions, as if he were afraid they would disappear if he didnât. Money was a big deal to him, and Legend was greatly unwilling to part with his rupees. He only did so if he had an absolute need to.Â
Warrior knew he hadnât always been this way.
âIâm sorry, Warrior.âÂ
Warrior flinched. How he hated that phrase. Those two little, meaningless, words.Â
~~~~~~
âWeâre sorry, Link,â The soldier said to him, his professional and calm demeanor telling Link he wasnât. Not truly, anyway. They were desensitized to this kind of thing. They were used to this. Casualties and bloodshed were a part of war after all...But this...
Anything but this.Â
âBut there was nothing we could do.âÂ
Link clenched his fists tightly together, eyes burning, âSo you left him there to die?!â He demanded, and the soldiers flinched. âYou were his reinforcements! The lot of you are nothing more than pathetic cowards! You are unworthy of your names!âÂ
~~~~~~
âDonât be,â Warrior found himself saying, plastering a fake smile on his lips and shrugging nonchalantly, âWhat else could you have done?â And with that, he turned away and left, leaving Legend to stare after him weirdly.Â
Hours had passed since then. Warrior lost track of time.Â
~~~~~~
âHe died a Hero.â A quiet, mellifluous, voice said.Â
âWhat does it matter?â Link muttered, knees drawn to his chest and arms wrapped tightly around them. âHe shouldnât have died in the first place.â Bitter sorrow and anger laced his words.Â
The woman flinched. She knew they hadnât been directed towards her, but she felt responsible all the same. She moved with the grace and elegance befitting of a Queen, crouching down beside him and brushing her fingers against his shoulder,Â
âHe was a warrior, Link. The Captain of the Guard,â She softly murmured, âHe did what he knew to be right.âÂ
âAnd he died for it,â Link whispered hoarsely, tears springing to his eyes. âHe died because they left him! They were his men! He trusted them with his life and they betrayed him!âÂ
~~~~~~
Ah, betrayal.Â
Warrior loathed traitors. For those were exactly who those worthless knights had been. Wild had seen first hand how Warrior dealt with traitors.Â
The Yiga stood no chance against him.Â
~~~~~~
âHow long will you grieve, Link?â His dearest friend had asked him one day. Sheâd found Link sitting in front of the tomb the kings of old were laid to rest. His friend knew who he was visiting that particular day. She had heard Link had not once moved from it, and it was far past sunset. âIt has been seven years. He wouldnât want this.âÂ
Linkâs face was hidden by the shadows, his hair creating a curtain that hid his face from her view.Â
Zelda did not think he would answer, but then, Link raised himself to his feet, straightening his back and shoulders. When she met his eyes, she recognized the sheer determination and willpower blazing within them. The Knight-in-training lifted his clenched fist and solemnly declared,Â
âI will become the next Captain of the Guard- a warrior, like my Father before me!âÂ
And Zelda knew it to be true. Whether it was the fire in his eyes or the passionate declaration, she knew not.Â
âI will win this war in his stead and bring honor to his name.â He turned and pressed his hand gently against the cold stone door of the tomb, resting his forehead against it. He whispered something so softly the Princess was unable to pick up the words. Once he was finished, Link left to make preparations for their next attack.
She watched him go before moving to pay her own respects to the Hero who lay within.Â
The Hero of War Our beloved Captain of the Guard Who will be dearly missed,Â
LinkÂ
~~~~~~~
For Warrior, his name wasnât simply a name.Â
It was something more personal to him.Â
It was his Fatherâs name.Â
And he both hated and loved it.Â
â ; [ BOTW / OTHERWORLDS.2 Â ] Â Â WORLDBUILDING â VERSE
Honestly, i was trying to write a reply for @wildsheroâ & then i thought maybe.... i should let people know a few things about Twilight Princess Link in the setting of Breath of the Wild. I feel like it would just be better for people to know a bit more about the verse since itâs actually one or my more favourite verses imo. but first allow me to refresh everybody on what i have for the verse.
let it be know that i will differentiate between the links for the rest of the post as the following: Wild = BOTW Link Twilight = TP Link
NAME: Twilight, Wolfie  SPECIES: wolf  HEIGHT: 4â3â  â IS A LITTLE SHIT â Summoned as a wolf by Wild Child. He has to deal with his antics without rest or until he is returned back to his home world. Until then, the Link of this world must deal with the Cheeky Hero-Beast. Nobody said he had to play nice.
Another tidbit, i will always, ALWAYS RP Twilight in a post, TP state when he is in BOTW. Meaning that he already accomplished his role as the saviour of hyrule & things are at a somewhat normal state for everybody. he is currently looking for ways to look for midna & often times runs into random âtwilight portalsâ that are still in his world. these portals are like the normal portals you use in TP, however these are a bit different because they react when 2 things happen. 1: when twilightâs twili shard is nearby & 2: something âelseâ happens that causes the portal to activate. that something else -- for BOTW purposes -- is when Wild uses the sheikah slate. consider these portals though more like random rifts in twilightâs world. sometimes he canât even see them.Â
one this is for certain though: when he teleports -- only his body is taken. his master sword of his world is not taken with him. so the chances of him turning back into a human are very slim UNLESS he touches or tries to hold the master sword in wildâs world. Also another thing: twili magic works very differently in wildâs world. sometimes twilight -- if he wants to stay close to wild, is able to WILL himself to teleport to wild. but if he stays too far from wild for an extended period of time, he will be teleported back to his own world. he legit cannot stay alone in the wildâs world because itâs not his world. the thing that is keeping him there is the sheikah slate. so obviously if heâs not around it for a long time then he will naturally go home.
anyway, everything else will be under a read more because it talks about twilightâs relationship with wild & so on.
Honestly though, THIS POST made me really think about how Twilight would consider Wild as. if Wild was just a child to him, or if he considered him more as an equal. I feel like it would be the former tbh. THIS OTHER POST kind of proves a bit into that theory as well. Twilight obviously knows a lot more than Wild does & not just because Wild lost his memory.Â
Wild, in many ways, is still âyoungâ in the aspect that he hasnât taken down ganon like how Twilight has. Twilight has fought many things, took down the Demon King himself, & lost a beloved friend while also losing part of his humanity as well. heâs only in his early 20s & he suffers from survivorâs guilt and its trying to mend a broken/betrayed heart.Â
am i ignoring that wild has amnesia? no. i am not. wild himself has gone through hardships, i will not lie about that. he almost lost to ganon. the other champions have all died. & zelda is keeping ganon at bay. but he doesnât know what it is like to have fufilled the prophecy in his world. at least not like how twilight has.Â
I brought it up in another post about it, but essentially twilight feels empty after the defeat of ganon. not only that, but he also feels used. now that ganon is gone, he.... doesnât know what to do with himself. & his friend destroyed the only known why to visit her. so yes, he... feels shattered. his heart weighs so heavy because after such a long journey, he canât just move on. itâs like everything was stripped from him & heâs back to âjust being plain old link: ranch hand of ordon village.Â
so yea, wild IS a child compared to twilight. his antics are all over the place -- wild is incredibly fickle. he feels like heâs dealing with the ordon children all over again. yet at the same time its just like the ordon children. he wants to help wild. he wants to protect him. in a way, he wants to prevent wild from having the same fate as him. yes he KNOWS what it feels like to be empty. wild is not empty, just because he doesnât have any memories doesnât mean that he is empty. wild is just lost. twilight wants to help him, & yet he doesnât want to rush anything.Â
there was a post that discussed the personality of wild but i canât find it. but it has to deal with the japanese version. ( another reason why i hate the english translations ) in the japanese versions, all the entries in the sheikah slate are LINKâS entries. its like link is keeping a diary to HELP him remember. so in wildâs case with twilight, its THE SAME THING.Â
the problem is that the more he remembers, the most intense they are. mainly because pieces of the memories are now wielding together. they arenât just random fragments. the puzzles pieces are now fitting together. but you try to remember everything too fast? it can be incredibly devastating & more harmful than helpful. twilight recognises this. he knows this because lanaryu did that to him when he was given the vision. it can be harmful to oneâs mental health especially if you arenât prepared. it can lead you down a dark path & you can end up doubting yourself.Â
so if wild is rushing in trying to remember everything, it can hurt him. it could make him more reckless because he is simply more determined to win. just imagine this: somebody lashes out in anger after finding something out. you arenât thinking, you are acting out on anger -- on emotion. itâs the worst thing to do especially in war. you HAVE to be calculating, especially with ganon. you cannot fight ganon with anger & pain. GANON IS THE EPITOME of those emotions. you will only be predictable & naturally, fighting anger with anger doesnât work out. link will die because ganon is stronger than link mentally in this aspect. wild cannot go in blindly: he doensât have zelda this time to give him another chance.
& yes, twilight KNOWS all of this. you are the only one who knows you the best. for twilight, he knows wild in a sense that wild is another incarnation of himself. twilight has also met the heroâs shade as well to know that there are several things that always get reborn with the hero of courage. one is that every link is reckless in some way, shape, or form. they have to be! they are the hero of courage; fear is not supposed to be in their blood. i say fear isnât suppose to be, but anxiety still can be. any link can still hold some sort of doubt &/or self-blame. itâs a given. they are all heroes after all. they are not perfect, & they are expected so much. but each link can take it in differently. though i digress. my main point is that every single link is reckless. ( yes, even twilight, one of the more calculating heroes of courage is also reckless, itâs in his blood )
so yea, twilight worries for wild. he should. but anyway. that doesnât mean twilight wonât be a little asshole to wild. as much as wild has his antics, so does twilight. wild often times does some really stupid shit, so naturally twilight would too. just to annoy him. call him petty if you want, but twilight is just a tired boy.
please let it be known that while twilgiht is an asshole sometimes, he is VERY protective of wild! he would consider him a best friend ( eventually ) and a companion! Wild does, in fact, fill the voidness in twilight's heart, and while he may be annoyed with him 80% of the time, he still cares for him. a lot.Â
uh.... some other things to consider too. twilight would not hesitate to pick up the master sword if wild is severely injured. while he may transform back as a human, he still is a swordsman at heart, and if heâs canine body cannot defend wild, then so be it, twilight would transform to his normal state & risk his life for wild. he will always be better & stronger with a sword than his beast form anyway.
while twilight calls wild âlinkâ, wild does actually call him twilight! or twi for short. wild gave him the nickname for a few reasons.Â
1: his fur & the patterns in it. twilightâs fur is not just one brown, its a mix of brown that kinda resembles that mix of yellow-orange found literally at dusk/twilight. 2: twilight is actually most solemn & quiet at the twilight hours. wild can tell that heâs a bit distance during this time as if heâs thinking about something or rather, something is on his mind. 3: the twili magic that causes him to warp is obiously very twilight-esque. aside from the legends passed down, wild would most likley recognise this as twilight magic -- especially when they find midnaâs helmet. because it only confirms that the legends are true: that twilight magic exists & that twilight has something to deal with it. 4: the sheikah slate actually registers twilight as twilight instead of link -- even if he were to be in his human form, the piece of technology considers him as that. besides, if twilight were to ever transform ( mind you he probably wouldnât unless forced to ), twilight would say that his name is twilight.Â
does wild know that twilight is him but from another time? honestly, i donât know.itâs up for debate. i probably could go either way to by honest, but i think my natural instinct is to say that no, wild does not realise that twilight is him but from another time. but thatâs my 2 cents on the subject.
also: other names wild calls twilight is puppers, bud, & wolf/wolfie. twilight PREFERS twilight though, he feels a bit sentimental and happy when heâs called that. & it is ABSOLUTELY noticeable cause twilight will wag his tail when he is called twilight. donât judge him.
more to come when i think of anything else.
The âFailedâ SacrificeÂ
~ Ooooiii, hows it going fairies? I've been recently doing research & thought about BOTW 2 and the small cutscenes we get to see. And, of course, lots of theories have come out to figure out just WHAT exactly happened to Ganondorf & why he's dried out like a prune under Hyrule Castle đ° So join me in this semi-long theory of what I think happened to not only Ganondorf, but the Zonai Tribe as well... Also, your free to have your agreements & disagreements in the comments. Just...don't get harmful đ
Alright, let's talk about the Zonai Tribe. Who were they and how did NEARLY their entire race mysteriously disappear? I say NEARLY because I believe their people still live, but I'll get to that a bit later. As we know, the Zonai were Ancient Warlike People during their time in Hyrule, though it seemed their people were pretty hidden from if not all, but most of those in Hyrule before Calamity Ganon struck. We also know that, thanks to the Barbarian Armor you can acquire in the game, that they were a strong Tribe and clearly from the 3 Labyrinths you can find in Gerudo Desert, Herbra Plains & behind Robbie's lab, they were clearly WAY more advanced than most Hylians, kinda like the Sheikah Clan, but... the real question is: if they were such a great and strong tribe...how did they go extinct (or to me, NEARLY extinct) âââ - here's my main points I want to stick with: ONE: The Zonai & The Sheikah Clan had some kind of connection to one another. TWO: They "mysteriously" disappeared all at once because of a great sacrifice they made to keep Ganondorf locked away. THREE: The mysterious blue/green hand we see on Ganondorf heart before grabbing Link to help Zelda & him up was a way to stop Demise's cycle. Because...no reincarnation. No curse. FOUR: Someone, moreover the Sheikah, was close to the Royal Family who could have possibly tricked Ganondorf into going under the castle to "have the upper hand" on Hyrule. [C]âââ Okay, so let's start with the first. I believe the Zonai & The Sheikah Clan had some kind of connections with one another, though it seemed the tribe were seemingly standoffish to most of Hyrule. I say this because if you enter in any of labyrinths, what's the first thing you see? Specifically, in the air. [IMG=C8H] [CIU]Guardian Skywatchers. And I think we can all agree that sometimes these things can be annoying to shoot down, especially if you have terrible aim like me đ, but that's not the point. Now I know most may say: "Those could have been placed there AFTER The Zonai disappeared" And that could be true, which is why I'm not 100% sold on them working together, BUT, say for instance if that wasn't the case. Say if someone was so convincing to the tribe that they could help them achieve the one goal they had in mind: Stopping Ganondorf. Now, I say it may have been the Sheikah who leaned onto the Zonai because it was clear 100 years ago that Zelda's Triforce wasn't awaking & without a Royal Psychic ( which is usually ONE of the women in the Royal Family, possible Zelda's mother ) they were desperate for a way to get more time so Zelda could awaken her power since her mother couldn't teach her. Now, I say Zelda's mother could have been the one with the psychic ability because it's said that some females in the Hyrule Family have this magic stood upon them & pass down their knowledge of the next generation shows signs, meaning that not ALL princesses & queens of Hyrule have this ability. As we know, Zelda's mother died when she was only 6 from a mysterious illness & she didn't have a chance to learn her teachings. Some even theorize that she was poisoned by someone close to the Royal Family who could have been a Yiga Spy, but I don't know. It's not impossible considering the time era Legend of Zelda takes place in for if you were someone with such HIGH standard, you would have a lot of enemies & needed to watch who you kept close to you... Now without Zelda's mother's ability, the Sheikah were at a standstill. Their Clan was already split into two: The Sheikah and The Yiga Clan from their technology being thrown away because the Royal Family feared of them overthrowing them, so without their greatest inventions of this time era, they needed something that could assist Zelda while she searched for that THING to help unlock her power...which leads me to the Zonai. It's clear the Zonai were around before and during The Great Calamity, but not after..or so it's said. I believe that the Sheikah, without telling the King Rhoam or Zelda of their plan, went to the Ancient Tribe and realized they had the same idea of getting rid of Ganondorf once and for all to stop the endless cycle of this curse. Now, I can't fully say WHAT the labyrinths were for. Maybe a test for Link, but they feared others would go near it and enter themselves? (Which I think might have been possible because if you interact with anyone who notices the Sheikah Slate on Link's hip after awaking, they always say something along the lines of "That's A Sheikah Slate" And never really "THE Sheikah Slate". If there was only ONE in existence, wouldn't they say THE instead of A? Idk) Maybe they just wanted to keep outsiders out & insured that with a long & complicated maze? Or maybe they were doing their Ancient Art Magic in each area to see if it were a good place to hold the King of The Desert? ( and yes, I know, from one of Link's memories that Zelda tried to enter, but didn't have access. Could it possible that the shrines were only made for Link? Or maybe that particular Sheikah Slate is like the Master Sword and only responds to him because it only has one task: assisting the hero.) Regardless of what the labyrinths were for, it's clear that the Sheikah have left their mark on these ancient artifacts and knew of more knowledge on this tribe than anyone else.Now remember, the Zonai worshiped the Water Dragon, AKA Farosh đ so they were clearly those who trusted somewhat in The Golden Goddesses...maybe. âââ Now onto my second point. They mysteriously disappeared without a trace, which is strange considering they were clearly in a LOT of areas of Hyrule. From the sandy beaches in Lurelin to the hot desert all the way to the colder regions of the Hebra..it was clear their tribe might have been bigger than most expected....either that or they were just really sneaky. I like to say that their "mysterious death" was really a noble sacrifice. Remember that if this is true, it isn't the first time someone else, other than Zelda and Link, stepped in and tried to stop the Demon King. In Twilight Princess, the ones know as the Six Sages also took matters into their own hands & attempted to stop Ganondorf by stabbing him in the chest with The Sword of The Six Sages... But they failed miserably, even thinking that the gods were playing a cruel joke when seeing Ganondorf had The Triforce of Power on his left hand, leading to the king breaking free & killing one of the six Sages before they used The Mirror of Twilight to send him away and think of their actions. Which...if were being honest...the goddesses have some things messed up about them, but that's a different rant for another time. Now I say they had a noble sacrifice because one of things we see in the short cutscene of BOTW 2 is the famous Lumious Stone that can found just about everywhere in Hyrule, but specifically underground there's A LOT OF IT. And if we read the description of the material, it's clear that some of Hyrule like to theorize it glows so bright because their are souls trapped inside. Now, clearly, there's a LOT of lumious stone in this one area, and if my theory is right tat the Zonai were one of the people who used their ancient magic to try and seal away Ganondorf, I feel it would have taken A GREAT AMOUNT of magic to do so considering we know how strong not only Ganondorf is, but the Triforce of Power. Hell..it stopped him from dying by a goddess forged weapon! YOU TELLIN ME THAT AINT STRONG!? I believe that possible not only the Zonai, but some of the Sheikah Clan, died doing a noble cause of holding Ganondorf back, or at least his body, to keep him from a new reincarnation. Alright...I know this is a lot. Take a breather. Get some snacks and a drink because here's POINT 3: This caught everyone's attention. The Hand. Off the back, we can tell this clearly Ganondorf's newly found prison & a terrible and dark one at that. I mean, cmon, I personally wouldn't want to be mummified and have my heart grabbed at by a hand, but that's just me Now from this hand we can tell it's the same color as the ones that reside around Lumious Stone, The Fallen Champions, & The Monks when taking their Spirit Orbs to give to the Hylia Statues when exchanging it during prayer...kinda like Link is the key to setting their soul free for doing their deed for Hylia. I believe a lot of spirits were brought together in sealing away Ganondorf....a lot of ANGRY spirits, but as we see in BOTW 2 cutscenes that it's clear the hand not only moved itself (or the spirits moved themselves) to help Link and Zelda when they almost fell to their doom. And, even though this is a different game, I make the comparison of a lot of souls in ONE BODY to Noob Cybot from Mortal Kombat. Even though he appears as one person, there are lot of souls stood inside of him and one of his quotes are "We are many. You are one". The power of the hand, now given to Link, could be the spirits last attempt at helping Link and Zelda seal away Ganondorf considering it seems The Master Sword isn't as strong as it use to be ten to thousands of years ago. But in doing so, they released the seal that held Ganondorf captive for those past 100-10,000 years. I'm sure the only freedom Ganondorf had was The Malice that leaves his body (which is just a mixture of rage and hate..and honestly I'd be mad too if my only escape was a spirit form of myself) and his mind, if it wasn't already gone by then. Because of the seal now being broken, our beautiful demon king was up from his long nap đ
I mean...cmon now...theorized to be bad or not, Ganondorf is FIIIIINNNNEEEE đ and I would give myself to him, but we're not here for my girly fantasies. And now was prepared to release havoc on Hyrule once more. Now, I say that this was a attempted by the Zonai and Sheikah to hold Ganondorf back because even though it's clear Ganondorf can still attack in spirit forms and smaller, puppet forms, as we see with the BLIGHTS, Ganondorf can't reincarnate if the DOESN'T HAVE A BODY FOR IT. Clearly when Ganondorf dies in his physical, Gerudo form, it takes Eons later for him to reform and be born into the world again, but...his body was still under Hyrule....and it could be possible, just like the Monks, that he was still alive, but had no ability to move, leading him to release so much hate in the world that it created Blights and Calamity Ganon, along with Dark Beast Ganon And now with that seal gone and nothing holding him back, the Demon King was Awaken once more, but...my final question is...how did he get down there in the first place? âââ I'll try making this last part short considering this was longer than I expected. Also, no more pictures passed this point. I've already reached the MAX if you couldn't tell đ
Now this is my own thought. I believe someone in the Sheikah Clan who served the Royal Family set Ganondorf up. I say this because I can't think of any other reason why Ganondorf would be hiding below the castle and not strike. There's also my thought that Ganondorf was either led there or possible kidnapped and brought to the sacrificial grounds below Hyrule castle. And I know some might say: "Ganondorf...kidnapped? That's impossible" But we have no clue HOW STRONG the Zonai's magic really was. Even in Twilight Princess, those who wielded a very strong and ancient magic had power great enough to take over Hyrule for their terrible desires, leading them to living in the Twilight Realm, so it's not as if it's not possible that this power was equally as great, but used for a different cause. Whose to say the similar green color of the Twilight Magic isn't being used once again, but this time for good and not selfish greed for the power of the Triforce? I believe that if Ganondorf was led to this area, he was clearly betrayed. Now, in many incidents  in past time eras, Ganondorf has been betrayed by many and his power was turned against him, which I hate, but this isn't about my personal feelings on the king. I have TWO ideas of how it could have happened: Say if the "spy" for Ganondorf was actually working for the Royal Family and tricked him to believe that they were getting as much intel as possible to keep from him being killed by Zelda and Link. What if the spy had been discovered by a fellow Sheikah member and eliminated them to keep things as they should have been? What if they gained so much of Ganondorf trust to the point where he thought they were a ally that they gave him the idea of going under Hyrule Castle, hiding for a certain period of time and was ambushed by the power of the Zonai and The Sheikah Clan? The other idea is that someone was ONCE loyal to the Royal Family, but betrayed them and went to Ganondorf instead. I think this is possible because it's clear the Royal Family has dumped the Sheikah Clan many times and doesn't trust them fully (which is understandable in that day in age, but still) and a few banded together to betray the Royal Family. Telling Ganondorf of the technology they created and how they were planning on using it against him, leading to him creating the Blights and attacking all 4 divine beast and the champions, but they were figured out, forced to reveal where Ganondorf was hiding OR someone followed them and found out the truth and set them up under the castle, but maybe not all, and this birthed The Yiga Clan in secret. It could have been possible that Master Kohga could have been there as well, or heard information of it, considering the Sheikah can live up to 100 years plus as we see with Impa, Robbie and Purah, along with the monks, but idk if it was Master Kohga in particular considering how goofy he is, but some like to theorize that he's a descendent of Zant because he mentions something of his great great grandfather's magic that was once sealed away was taught to him. Not to mention, they have similar personalities and fighting styles. So it could be possible...that the power of the Twili tried so hard to get rid of ten to thousands of years ago...still lives on, but now, used for good instead of evil by the Zonai. I could go on and on about this, but I clearly need more information on the whole thing. That and this is getting way too long. These are just my theories of what may be in the story line of BOTW 2. I hope you fairies liked this one đ§ââïž PS: if you didn't notice, the same symbol that's on the walls in the cutscene of the SWIRL that can found on other works of the Zonai are the SAME as the symbol of Lurelin. This is what I meant when I said that it's possible that their people are still alive, but either the people of Lurelin don't know of their history considering most of their tribe died or was lost OR they know, hold some power, but keep it secret from outsiders of the village and disguise themselves as "noble fishermen" . I also think it's strange that Lurelin wasn't effected by the Calamity considering it was BEHIND that great defense wall where Zelda awakens her power & Link nearly dies. I say it's strange because I feel like Lurelins people & the Zonai have a very strong connection, but that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY âŒïž
Words: 2.098Â
This is a Sequel to this!
Thy hylianchampion swung his sword the last time and a painful scream came. In thismoment, the princess hold up her hand and seal the monster before them. Thedark atmosphere moved away and the first sunray went throw the clouds to shineupon the now saved kingdom of Hyrule.
âWe didit?â the princess whispered to herself and looked to her appointed knight indisbelief. He just nodded and put his sword back.
âWe didit.â He said in a firm voice. From far away, the younger princess looked out ofthe window. She observed every movement from the fight. During it, she holds acrafted bow deep to her chest while she prays went to the fighting championsand her sister. When the calamity was sealed away and the sun came up, she feltrelieved.
âThey diditâ she screamed in joy. Suddenly, her expression changed.
âSo thismeansâŠheâs safeâŠand alive?â
âToday, weare here to celebrate. The plan from our ancestors were a huge success. Thedivine beasts harm ganon and the knight with the dark sealing sword and theprincess with her power from goddesses sealed him away. All of them, the championsand the princess, showed us their strength and courage and together, they savedall of us. We are here to celebrate their effort. Thank you for saving our dearHyrule. Youâre heroesâ
Everyone inthe hall applauded to the six people in the middle of the room. They lookedaround and saw the relieved faces. They were safe and alive. The plan was asuccess.
The musicstarted and the celebration began. A lot of royalty was there. From the Zora,the Goron, the Gerudo and the Rito. They chat, they eat, and they dance.Everyone was happy.
You lookedaround the hall, but you couldnât find him. Since the start of the calamity,you hadnât seen your appointed Knight Revali. You knew from your sister, he wasalive. However, it didnât stop for feeling worried. You needed to see him.
â[Y/N]!â
In the nextmoment, you felt soft feathers around you. You immediately were calm andrelieved to be in his arms. You put your hands around him and return the hug.
âI am soglad to see youâ you said. âI was worried when I saw how huge the calamity was.How they attacked the beasts and so. I thought my heart would stand stillâ
âItâsalright, I am hereâ he said. âAnd all thanks to youâ
You lookedconfused to him. âMe?â
âSince Iknew you, you are you. You have your own head and ideas and nothing stoppedyou. Even though there was no light, you made your own light. It inspired me. Ihave to look forward. During the fight, I looked forward. Forward to see thefuture of the kingdom. But also forward to see you again. You gave me a reasonnot to fall down and still keep fighting. I know my role in defeating ganonwasnât that huge â the hylian and the princess had the most difficult part. Butwith you in my mind, I could lend them my strength to defeat them.â
You werespeechless with every word he said to you.
â[Y/N]âŠWhenI went into the divine beast and saw the calamityâŠI made a promise to myself.When everything is overâŠwhen the kingdom is saveâŠWhen youâre safeâŠI will behonest with youâ
Your eyeswiden a bit.
âI know thefuture for us didnât look good. From now on, there will be a little time beforeyou have to go. I know,its a little timeâŠBut I want to spend the time close byyour side. Only for a moment, I want to show you how deeply I appreciate you.â
He tookyour hands in his and looked in your face.
âCan I beyour mateâŠonly for a short time?â
âIâŠ.I am sorryâŠRevaliâŠIf you told me beforethe calamityâŠI am sure my answer would be anotherâŠBut while you were awayâŠI hadtime to thinkâŠI know, now there is peaceâŠBut it didnât stop foreign kingdom tobe evilâŠWe have to construct a good networkâŠFriendship is important for everykingdomâŠItâs hard to understandâŠBut I understand now my role. I had no rolewith the calamityâŠMy role is anotherâŠ.I am part of the royal familyâŠI want thispeace for everyone in HyruleâŠSo I must sacrifice myself for them. One lifeisnât more important than the lives from a whole kingdomâŠI know it will notmake me happyâŠBut I know I will do a job for the peopleâŠAnd I care for thepeopleâŠI will stop being a rebel and start being responsibleâŠâ
He neversaw his daughter in such a sad state. It was casually when he saw them talkingat the celebration. He saw how they hug and how the rito champion open up toher only to be rejected. He couldnât believe his eyes.
He knew fromtheir feelings for each other. He wasnât amused about it but they never didthings couple do. They knew what was right for the reputation. However, it madethe king sad to see his youngest sad. He knew he was a strict father and hesometimes ignored the feelings from his children. Every time he saw his wife intheir faces. She left them too soon and he missed her. He never hated hisdaughter for being a rebel. He only didnât like it she ignored her duties as aprincess. His mind changed his daughter speak to him about the arrangedmarriage. It was only hours after the defeating of calamity ganon when sheshowed up and told him her wishes to serve the kingdom.
He neverexpected this. He had in mind she would run away. She didnât. He was proud byher words. However, he also knew what this would cost.
There was aknock on the door. âCome inâ the king said.
âYou wantedto talk to me, your highness?â
Thechampion arrived at the personal office of the king and kneeled down.
âThere isan important mission to discuss. I will entrust them to you and only to you.Please listen to my wordsâ
Days passedand you avoided every contact with Revali. His expression after you rejectedhim was deep in your mind and every time you saw him, you remembered thisexpression. It was full of hurt, sadness and disbelief.
You wereglad you quickly went away after this. At your room, your tears streamed downyour face. You waited such a long time for it but he came too late. Yourdecision wasnât easy. However, you cared a lot for the well-being of Hyrule. Ifit was necessary to keep it safe, you would sacrifice yourself for this.
âYourhighnessâ a guard suddenly told while you sat in Zeldaâs office. âThe kingwants to talk to youâ
You justnodded and followed them.
Your fathergreeted you firmly. âSat down, we have things to talk aboutâ
You satdown and look at him.
âWhat iswhat you want to talk about?â you asked and looked at him. His expressionconfused you. Normally, he had a serious and concerned face. Now it was calmand caring.
âIn thepast, all I could think was the calamity and the well-being of our beautifulkingdomâ he started.
âIt was ahard and painful journey. Your mother left us too early in a time we needed hermost. It did change by her leaving. I tried my best to raise you both the bestit could be for the kingdom. It was strict and sometimes unfair for you twoâ
You justsat there and listen to his words.
âAfter herleaving, my plans were clear. Zelda had to learn to awaken her power on her ownwhile you learn the duties of the princess and future wife. Both of you werenâthappy with this. Zelda was a bit distracted while you rebelled againstanything. I thought this was just puberty. It wasnât.â
The kinglooked for a bit down, then straight into your face.
âWhen the calamitywas defeated, my opinion changed in my ways to raise you. I was too focus onthe well-being of the kingdom and ignored the factâŠyou two were humans withgoals and feelings. Now with the time of the great peace, I wish for everyoneto be happy. This also includes you, [Y/N]â
âWhatexactly do you want to tell me? I am a bit confusedâ you said. His wordstouched you but you really donât know why he told you this.
âI knowfrom your feelings for the rito championâ
Immediately,you blushed hardly and looked sad away. You only heard him laughing.
âI know itoften look I wasnât interested in your life. But I do have eyesâ
The urge tohide was big.
âButâŠitâsimproperâ you said a bit nervous.
âYouâreright. Youâre a princess with royal blood inside you while he is your knight, asoldier. Let alone youâre hylian and heâs a rito. ButâŠâ
There wasthe caring face.
âI washappy when you wanted to fulfill your duties. I am very proud of you. However,since I saw how you rejected him and you leaving with such a sad expression, Irealized it. The well-being of Hyrule is important. But also the happiness frommy dear daughters.â
You werespeechless by his words. You had the urge to embrace him but you wereparalyzed. Tears streamed down your face.
âT-thanksâyou said in a quiet voice.
âYou cancome out!â
SuddenlyRevali came from nowhere. Now you really didnât know what to think or say.
âYour Highness, what is this special mission?âthe rito asked. He was confused to have an audience with the king.
âItâs a life mission from now on. Are you readyto accept this?â
âCan I askâŠwhy me?â
The king turned to him with a serious face.
âYou did a great job in the defeating. You alsodid a good job with keeping my daughter safe. So you earned the right to thismissionâ
He really was now curious about this mission.He was also glad he got it instead of this hylian champion.
âI ask you againâŠAre you ready to accept thismissionâŠ?â
He had the intention to speak up.
âTo marry the princess?â
âAs I said,[Y/N]. I wish for your happiness. So I talked to him about you.â
The rito fall down on his ass when he heardthese words.
âM-marry the princess?!â he asked confused.âIâŠI donât understand, your majestyâ
The king only chuckled.
âI know from your both feelings for each other.And I also saw how she rejected you at the celebrationâ
He looked in total disbelief. He didnâtunderstand anything.
âAs I said, you did a great job. You showedyour loyalty for us and the kingdom. Itâs right thatâs an honor to serve us.But you also deserved happiness like everyone else in Hyrule. I know mydaughter is in good hands with youâ
âI am flattered, your highness. But I am a ritoand sheâs a..â
âYouâre right. Normally, itâs improper for arita and hylian to found love. But I said before, everyone deserved Love. Evenif youâre her appointed knight, I give you my blessings.â
He really was speechless and didnât know whatto say.
âI only want the best for her. And you are thebestâ
You watchedhow he approached you. It was silent between you. But the action spoke words.
He kneeleddown before you. He took out his bow and took the cloth from it. Then he put itaway and offered you the cloth.
You heartstopped by this action. In disbelief, you watched between Revali and yourfather. The king smiled and nodded to you.
It wasnât atradition a normal hylian knew. As a princess, you knew it.
While itwas common for hylian to propose with a crafted ring. It was common for a ritoto propose with the cloth from the bow. The bow is a guiding symbol and everyrito had to craft his own bow. The bow and the cloth mean their life. To giveanother one the cloth means giving their life in their hands.
You hesitateda bit. Then you took the cloth and put them on your arm. You cried for joywhile Revali stand up and took you in an embrace.
It was the beginning from something new.Something you will share with him. Your friend, your knight and mate.
My Thoughts On: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Hi there, it's Alex! And oh boy, this is uh... I don't think my thoughts will be well-recieved on this one. I know the general consensus is that Ocarina of Time is quintessential Zelda and should be played by all fans, as evident by its 99 on Metacritic and the "Must Play" tag, but... well, to be honest, I didn't enjoy it that much.
(insert sounds of shock and dismay)
Yeah, I know. Look, I don't disagree with people just for the sake of being "different", ok? I was just expecting something a little more from this game going into it.
Starting the game, I was not a fan of the Young Link portion at the beginning. Starting in Kokiri Forest every time I started the game was such a drag, especially because I hadn't learned any warping songs yet. I was really not into this part, so much so that I lost interest and dropped it for a month or two before finally coming back to it.
Finally pulling myself through the first three dungeons (which I found to all be mid, except "Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly" which I hated) I went and claimed the Master Sword, sending myself 7 years into the future... Now, the Adult Link portion of the game was much much much better than the Young Link portion! I found everything to be more intuitive, like the game had been built for Adult Link and Young Link was added as an afterthought. The first Adult dungeon, the Forest Temple, was a ton of fun! I loved the puzzles, and the final boss fight was great! I was actually hyped for the rest of the game!
At least, I was. That was before I actually played the rest of the game. I don't remember enjoying any of the other Adult Link dungeons, nor any of the boss fights. Bongo Bongo was especially horrid. This isn't an "Oh I'm not good at this game, I hate it!" kind of tantrum, I just didn't find any of the boss fights to be fun. If anything, they were annoying!
A big pro is that I loved exploring Hyrule as Adult Link! There's so much to see, so many nooks and crannies to explore, and I had a lot of fun! Even finding the Golden Skulltulas was an enjoyable challenge, though I only found about half of them before I beat the game.
Speaking of beating the game, wow what a climax! The climb through Ganon's Tower is so tense, and is one last challenge before facing off against the Gerudo king himself. The fight isn't particularly difficult (especially if you got the Biggoron Sword) but is so dramatic, and has one of the coolest kill scenes, rivaled only by Wind Waker's climax.
In the end, I'm glad I played Ocarina of Time. It had some fun aspects, some good gameplay, and sadly lots of cons. I didn't enjoy most of the dungeons, nor the puzzles within them, but Ganon's Tower and the final battle was a nice wrap-up of the experience! Overall, let's say a 3.5/5 stars from me, I wanted to enjoy it more than I did. Soon I'll dive into Majora's Mask (the original, not the remake) so let's hope that there's something for me there!
Thanks for reading, and be sure to ask questions and suggest new post ideas in my ask box! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and God bless! Happy gaming to ya!
~ Alex
An Honest Blue SidonxLink
Please read my fanfic âAn Honest Blueâ at https://archiveofourown.org/works/14721360 Dedicated to all SidonxLink Tumblrs and artists and writers. Thank you for your content. This is possibly part one of a series involving a bit of an AU. I have an idea spinning in my head and this is kinda the prologue to it. Setting the tone. But this could just be a stand alone. May add to it before adding the official story. No promises. _________________ There has always been a vastness to the color blue, Sidon thought. The way it spans the sky in a large dome like shape, how endless and bright and fulfilling the color can be. Sidon always found himself surrounded in different shades of blue and all uniquely beautiful in their own way. Sometimes there was so much blue that, that endless and vast sky felt cramped and smothering, the palace walls smooth silver gilded edges felt like they were coming in as jagged edges and it felt suffocating. There was always so much blue around him that he almost began to hate the color. Sure there were occasionally Zora of different colors but...they blended in and were muted in shades and it became hard to decipher as time went on.Â
The only placating shade of it to him was found whenever he discovered himself in his late motherâs chamberâs, fingering the Zora Sapphire. It was deep and rich, saturated against all the overly glow-like or muted blueâs that surrounded him. He found comfort in it. The sapphire sparkled and it didnât have that never-ending quality to it. It was vast and he could stare at it for hours, sure, but Sidon felt peace with it. Itâs vastness was unlike anything else, It had a clear ending to it, told a story in glittering lights in rich blues that held a peaceful tone, a silent sirens melody.
It wasnât till many years later when he had met Link that he saw the sapphire blue in something that wasnât his motherâs heirloom. When Sidon had met the little Hylian, he had never really looked into his eye, it was always cloaked with a hood and Sidon didnât have really the care or desire at the moment to look into his eyes; there was the pressing matter of Vah Ruta. After the Divine Beast had been appeased, Link had come and gone and never resurfaced until about two months later, clad in a deep blood red veil, a feminine gilded green top with red rubies and a red sirwal. Link had emerged from the stairwell that led to the shrine, the moon hung high in the sky. Sidon had been staring, once again at his sisterâs statue when he had heard the wet foodpads stop beside him and he looked down to find the red clad Hylian. These were clothes unknown to Sidon but they were a bright contrast to the endless blue around him, much like he himself. Sidon had stared at the Hylian maiden only to find that when the veiled face looked at him, all Sidon could see was the deep rich sapphire blue, staring back at him. For a moment he thought he was hallucinating but the facade fell apart when the veil came down from beneath the Hylianâs eyes and he was staring at Linkâs smiling face. Linkâs hands came up and his head cocked slightly to the left, his hair swinging a bit and framing his face lovingly. âAm I so beautiful that youâve no words left?â It was motioned with such a coy expression that Sidon was well aware that Link was playing a game with him since he must have seemed a little flustered. âYes,â the Zora answered honestly. âThat outfit suits you, my dear friend.â The Hylian flushed hotly. He scratched his head and tumbles of long golden hair came forward. âYour hair grew! What a tremendous amount! Iâve never come across many Hylianâs but Iâve never heard of hair growing quite so quickly!â Linkâs blush faltered in surprise and he waved his arms back and forth and shook his head. âNo, these are calledâŠâ Sidon caught the word hair but the rest seemed odd. âHairâŠSomeone elseâs hai- You scalped someone!?â Link vigorously shook his head and hands. âOh good... Um⊠Hair...length...attachment⊠Oh!â He snapped his fingers. âHair extensions!â The Hylian nodded. âThereâs a spa in Gerudo Town. I had to stay a couple of weeks and plan an invasion against the Yiga and I was offered a hair treatment. I was unaware that hair would be attached to my head but⊠Itâs not bad. Its Gerudo donated hair thatâs been dyed with Electric Saffinaâs and some other flowers. Apparently itâs only been used for royalty but itâs becoming popular with locals.â âIt suits you well my friend.â Sidon couldnât really help himself. He took the long thick weft that hung across Linkâs shoulder and picked it up, feeling it between his fingers. He didnât realize how intimately close heâd come up to the Hylian, staring down at the red visage painted across the century year old teen. âAh, my apologies Hero. I didnât mean to invade your space.â The Hylian smiled and shook his head. âWhere are my manners, Youâve traveled a long way from the desert and Itâs quite late; can we accommodate you for the night? There are many rooms in the palace and-â Link shook his head and pointed at the Inn. âSurely I can house you in a much nicer room. There is plenty of-â Linkâs smile grew fonder, gentle like the rich blue within his eyes, waves of ever blue sapphire. Sidon chuckled. âThereâs no way I can dissuade you?â The elf shook his head, that smile glowing beneath the radiance of the moon. âAlright. Iâll see you tomorrow then and we can discuss how we can assist you, in whatever way you need that has brought you here.â Link continued to smile at the prince, waved his hand and walked away, toting a large bag and the slate upon his hip. That night, Sidon slept in his pool thinking of that rich deep blue. The only blue that didnât make him feel cramped. Beneath the bright blue endless sky, Sidon found himself once again staring above with an uncomfortable look on his face. He almost missed the gray of Vah Rutaâs wrath. Almost. That morning he had woken up and found the blue toxic glow of the walls around him just as aggravating as ever. He stood at the balcony below the throne room, above the statue and stared out the beaming dark cliffs and into the vibrant greens and pinks and flowers and- Sidon looked down to find a gentle hand on his arm. Wide rich blue eyes stared back at him; deep and honest, trusting and brave and lovingly soulful eyes piercing his own. Link smiled and signed a good morning to the prince and Sidon smiled back. âGood to see you! Did you rest well?â A nod. âGood. Now that the sky is bright, how can I help you?â Link was dressed in a surprisingly casual outfit. He wore a cyan shirt with a lobster emblem on it, a pair of gray long shorts and a pair of climbers shoes. The most notable part though was that his hair was in its usual ponytail, the same blue ribbon that held it together. The length was so new and striking and it complimented Linkâs seemingly fragile and lithe body structure. It swayed in the chill breeze like a boat on gentle waves. Linkâs expression grew tired and agitated quite suddenly. He raised his hands and his eyes lifted back up from the ground.
âActually, Iâm not here on a specific mission or quest. Iâm justâŠâ His hands hovered for a moment, he averted his eyes, bit his lip and continued sweeping his hands gracefully through the air. âIâm just tired. I need a break for a moment you know? I didnât get to spend a lot of time here so Iâd like to see more of the Domain.â Sidon smiled brightly. âAh yes! That sounds wonderful! Iâd love to show you around my home!â Link flustered a bit. âDonât you have duties or⊠I donât know, prince-ly things to attend to?â Sidon stared for a moment before bursting into laughter, only increasing Linkâs hot flush. âNo my friend. I go through constant training to inherit the throne, sure, but socializing with my people is a great way for me to stay on their good side and to keep their spirits up. Showing you around will not only be a personal pleasure for myself but I can socialize with the other Zora whilst doing so and it allows me to check in on the lives of the peopleâ Link nodded, the weary tired eyes of a soldier falling and crumbling away into the curious innocence of a tourist. Sidon gave Link a moment, saying he would return shortly. Sidon walked up the stairs up into the throne room to find his father talking amiably with Muzu and another elder Zora. He knelt down to his father formally and waited patiently for the king to address him. King Dorephan paused his conversation and had Sidon rise. âGood morning my son.â Sidon stood and looked up to his fatherâs kindly face. âFather, The Hero of Hyrule is here. Iâve offered to show him around, I just wanted to let you know in case I would be needed.â King Dorephan nodded sagely but placed his hands around his jaw. âIâll assume that means he still doesnât really remember the Domain.â Sidon really wasnât sure how much Link remembered since the Hylian hadnât brought it up outside of implying he wanted to see what the Domain looked like extensively but the prince shook his head anyway. âIâm hoping maybe his memories might return if I show him around. He was quick to recognize Mipha a little once he had stared at her statue for a while.â Again King Dorephan nodded and bid Sidon adieu. âNothing needs your immediate attention today. Feel free to do as you wish with the Hylian. If you stray farther than the Domain, try to be back in a timely manner is my only request. If not, inform someone to let me know you are fine.â Sidonâs tail wagged a touch back and forth with a little excitement. âThank you father.â He rushed out quickly and gracefully from the throne room. He was going to turn to the left to go down those stairs when he spied Link with some children. He was seated on an elevated area of the flooring that didnât have a thin layer of water. A few children were sitting around him playing with his hair which had been freed from the ponytail. His hands moved swiftly and his expression was energetic as he told the awed children a story of one of his trips outside the Domain. Sidon stared for a moment before he smiled and relaxed. He leaned his arms on the rail and gazed down and read the story along with the children for a moment before he felt a presence behind him. Sidon looked behind him to find Muzu, also watching the children play with Linkâs hair and watching his hands tell them a story. The older Zora didnât say anything, just watched with Sidon from afar. Eventually the story began to come to a close and Sidon nodded toward Muzu who raised his hand up and nodded his head as well. Sidon began to make his way down the stairs; Link was holding the hands of some of the children around him but once Sidon stepped forward towards them, the children laughed and scattered, waving behind them. âShall we go?â Link looked up at the prince and smiled brightly, his ethereal blue eyes lidded with the joy. Sidon had to refrain from flinching at such a radiant display before him in such a simplistic expression. Truly the work of art by the goddesses. Link signed an affirmative and took Sidonâs arm. Link found that Sidon began to glow while showing the Hylian his magnificent home. Sidon walked them expressively across the bridge; he insisted they begin with the beginning. He explained that the building of the bridge began several thousand years ago when luminous stones were first initially discovered. The bridge had been crafted over a sum of 10 years and initially named Luminous Arch. Sidon walked Link across the bridge and the Hylian seemed enthralled with the history lesson. The bridge finally crossed, the prince waved his arm in a grand manner gesturing to the upper part of the palace. âWelcome to Zoraâs Domain. Now what you see here is the up-most tip of the palace, much like the highest spire of Hyrule Castle. Beneath the waterfalls and the river lies the rest of the palace which unfortunately is inaccessible to Hylianâs and other none water breathing species. It is unseen but behind the waterfalls are walls which were carved into, attached to the palace and then rewalled to seal them from the waterfalls. Originally the palace lay solely deep within the river but we built up so that we could have more communication with land dwelling races. Because we were doing so much construction above land, shafts were carved and mined through other areas of the river and through the mountain which is why when witnessed before, Vah Ruta dove deep into the water and was able to access other areas of the rivers.â Sidon described a vast and incredible palace beneath the waves, behind the waterfalls and embedded within the mountain. As time went on and the pair traveled through the domain with Sidon introducing fellow Zora to Link, they began to pick up other tourists who were interested in hearing the history and architecture of the domain. âMuch of the inner palace was later reconstructed or built over to include luminous stones in the design and architecture. Youâll notice there are pools that Zora will sleep in here. Many of these Zora have lives and family up here. But notice how few Zora are actually around. Hundreds of thousands of us dwell within the palace; it is a city of sorts in its own right.â âHow do you keep monsters out of the city if it expands across the connecting rivers that do in fact have them?â A Hylian piped curiously. Sidon smiled and turned to face the hylian, Tracy, Link thought her name was. âThe arches were thankfully built in a time when monsters were seldom around or riverbound so they are unable to enter. We have had problems in ancient times past with some of Ganonâs previous colossal monstrosities but other than that, we have no issue keeping them out.â Tracy nodded enthusiastically and continued to write. An hour further around the palace again, Sidon concluded the tour and the Hylianâs and a stray Goron began to disperse. Sidon smiled privately down towards Link who remained in awe of it all. âThere are much more things Iâd like to share with you, my friend. Things that other outsiders donât really need to know.â Linkâs eyes began to glow again with interest and a smile broadened onto his face. He looked so sweet with the doe like sapphire eyes and that large smile. Sidon could faintly see the freckles on the hylianâs face. They reminded him of the stars; clearly spread through the expanse of sky by Nayruâs graceful hands, it seemed that Faror had painted each and every freckle with care. Sidon averted his eyes and schooled his thoughtful and poetic mind. âCome, my friend.â He led Link to the underside back of the throne room where the Zora sleeping pools were spread out. He took link to the center of the wall and stood there. He gave the elf a mischievous smile. âDo you notice anything different about the wall?â Link opened his mouth in an âoâ shape before giving the wall a hard glare, looking for any differences. He stood there for a while, contemplating. His eyes flickered all over the glimmer of the wall when a pattern began to blossom against the normal pattern. His eyes picked up the faint differences and on an impulse he pressed a hand against it. Sidon snickered. âYes my friend.â Sidon pressed his hand over Linkâs. The elfâs hand was warm and soft like silk. Nayruâs mark glowed beneath their hands and a section of the wall pulled back and opened. Link gasped and stared in awe, his eyes glittering in excitement. âOnly a Zora can open this wall. Or the holder of the Zora Sapphire. It leads into the lower part of the domain.â Link made an excited chirp and began to step through before stopping and looking at Sidon for permission. The prince chuckled but gave the hero a sad smile. âUnfortunately, you could only go down so far before we come to the water. Otherwise I would indeed take you down.â Link looked a little bummed but he shrugged. He stepped back and the door filled back into place. The day onward went quickly. Sidon continued to insist that Link move from the inn and into guest quarters that were located in another section of the raised palace behind a small curtained waterfall. The boy eventually gave in and smiled. Sidon returned the grin with a thumbs up. He never gave any indication of the slow idea forming into his mind. The day finished after they had ventured out and around the Domain and its surrounding terrain. Currently the day found them sitting at the East Reservoir Lake. Link had rolled up his pants and his shoes were sitting beside him, his feet dangling in the water. Sidon had left him for a moment to go for a swim while Link sat there and braided his hair, humming a short repetitive tune. Sidon broke the surface near Linkâs legs, so tall was his torso that even with half his body still in the water, Sidon continued to tower over Link. âI had a lot of fun today. Touring my home with you was nice.â Linkâs smile never seemed to fall when he was around Sidon. The blonde turned his head and nodded, agreeing that he too, had, had fun with the prince. He wiggled his toes and Sidon pinched them playfully to which the elf laughed. It was again, a bright and radiant sound, soft and unused, a bit husky but had a graceful quality to it and a light hearted tone. Sidon continued to eye Link, watching his loose braid slowly come together and fall across the manâs shoulder. âIâve said this before but I do enjoy your hair length. It suits you very much so.â The century old teen blushed a little and his smile shifted to a more shy one. He wasnât used to compliments, Sidon could tell. Sidon continued to watch Link who soon became oblivious to Sidonâs stare as a bird came and sat next to Link. It perched itself next the the hero, a brave little thing. Link gasped lightly, held out his finger for the bird and it hopped up. It pecked at his finger before ruffling its wings a bit. It tweeted at Link and the Hero began to smile again. Sidon watched as the sunâs orange setting rays of light glimmered against the rich sun spun gold of Links hair, the glow accentuating a halo around his head and making his skin seem dark and supple. Linkâs lashes fell across his cheeks, a dark rich brown that complimented the blue of his eyes. His smile was so⊠soft⊠Sidon had never felt this way or thought this way about anyone. He could see why his sister had fallen in love. His heart clenched at little and he bit his lip. Link twittered at the bird a jovial song and the bird seemed to repeat the tune at a higher pitch. The bird flew away from Linkâs finger, a light dusting of feathers in its wake. Link turned his smile at Sidon and oh how Sidon wished. He didnât know what he wished but he was certain that he felt a sense of wishing and yearning. Link was so light, so bright, that Sidon could feel the shadow that it cast. Link lifted his hands and said, âAre you ready to go back?â Sidon leapt out of the darkened water and stood. He held his hand down for Link to grab. Link placed his hand into Sidonâs his eyes sparkling like sapphires. His eyes were an honest blue. The prince held Linkâs hand tightly.
The Hylian Child Chapter 5
Previous: Chapter 4
Next: Chapter 6
Disclaimer: The Legend of Zelda does not belong to me
Link finished dinner before everyone else, so he ended up sitting in rather awkward silence. He listened quietly as the King, the Princess, the Champions, the royal councilors, and the royal guards talked about politics, foreign kingdoms, suitors, economics, prayer, and about dealing with Calamity Ganon. He noticed that a few of the chairs at the table were empty and sighed. He waited for Urbosa to stop talking and leaned towards her to ask a question.
âThe empty chairs, near the other Royal Guards, whoâs supposed to sit there?â Urbosa glanced in the direction of where the Royal Guards were sitting before turning back to him. She put her mouth near his ear and whispered, âOne of the captains brought some other guards with him on some trip outside of Castle Town. Why?â âNothing important. I just⊠I just wanted to say hi to someone, Lady Urbosa,â he muttered slightly. He zoned out for most of the other conversations and focused on small, minute details in the room. He stopped and caught the stare of a Royal Councilor. He quickly broke the gaze and went back to focusing on the tiny details. The talking around him was constant but it suddenly went silent. He ignored it as the silence lasted for a minute or two until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned his head and saw Urbosa looking at him with a worried look on her face. âIs something wrong, Chief?â he asked quietly. âYeah. You,â she said with a light chuckle. âIs everything all right?â âYes, Lady Urbosa.â âGood. Because Lord Cyrill has been trying to ask you a question.â Link knew that if his skin wasnât so bronzed from the desert sun, that it would be obvious he was embarrassed. He hesitantly turned his head to face the councilor he believed was Lord Cyrill, a man with naturally tanned skin, hazel eyes, and black side-parted hair with a few streaks of gray. Urbosa merely chuckled, âI apologize on Linkâs behalf. Mealtimes with soldiers range from being loud and prolonged to being quick and short. Link, however, is one those soldiers that always prefers it quick and short.â Cyrill nodded and opened his mouth to repeat his question but was interrupted by another councilor. âI apologize for how slow Lord Cyrill can be, Sir Link. I am Head Councilor Lady Elfrida.â Elfrida was pale of skin with dark brown eyes, her blonde hair tied in a neat bun. Cyrill looked a bit annoyed and the princess stifled a laugh. âIn any case, what is it like to live in the desert?â Link stayed quiet for a short moment before answering, âWell, during the rainy season, the days are shorter than the nights by about an hour. And during the dry season, day and night are the same length. Days are hot, nights are cold. Itâs pretty much what youâd expect if you lived in a desert.â Cyrill raised an eyebrow in puzzlement while Elfrida seemed a bit too interested for her own good. Why does she care so much? Link thought; It's the desert, nothing much to it besides sandâŠand Moldugas. Cyrill cleared his throat before saying, âI believe Lady Elfrida wanted to know more about your personal life as the only male allowed in Gerudo Town. Perhaps you could tell us more about that.â Link nodded slightly, âWell, sorry to disappoint you, but thereâs not much to talk about. I spend most of my time training and researching.â Elfrida jumped in before anything else could be said, âWhat do you research?â âGerudo history.â âAndâŠ?â âThatâs it. Gerudo history.â âYou donât study about anything else? Like, oh say, Zoras, or Gorons, or maybe even Ritos?â âI never planned on leaving the Gerudo region, so I was never interested. And to be honest, Iâm still not interested.â âThat canât be true, you at least want to know something, right?â Cyrill sighed, âLeave the kid alone. If he doesnât care, he doesnât care.â âQuiet,â she ordered and gave him a cold glare before looking back at Link. âSo, what do you wish to know?â Link hated that he couldnât think of a way to avoid the subject. âI guess knowing the names of the other tribes would be niceâŠâ âLink, please tell me youâre joking,â Urbosa said quietly. âI apologize Chief, but Iâm not.â âLink, Gorons and vai Ritos come into town every day. The only tribe you shouldnât know about are the Zora, honestly.â Princess Zelda decided to join in on the voeâs embarrassment. âQuick question: what have you been calling Gorons and Ritos this entire time?â Link swallowed, âBoulder people and oversized vures.â Urbosa and the large rockâLink still didn't know his name for some reasonâburst out in laughter, which caused the people at the other tables to stop their own conversations and look over. ââOversized vureâ?â The vure suddenly repeated with a trace of annoyance. Urbosa, still laughing, barely managed to successfully tell Link to explain it. âYes, vure. Itâs Gerudo for bird,â Link muttered and received a death glare from him. âWell,â Elfrida said, âI suppose Link calling you that was reasonable. We didnât give him a proper introduction!â This vai seriously needs to take it down a notch, Link thought. âAh, my apologies,â King Rhoam said with a bit of strain to his voice. âZelda, care to do the honors?â Princess Zelda nodded and placed her fork down on her plate. She had a worried look on her face, but smiled anyway; to Link, it was obvious it was forced. âLink, I would like to introduce you to our Zora Champion, Princess Mipha.â The red Zora also gave a forced smile, but it held a bit more sincerity than Zeldaâs. Zelda continued her introductions. âHere is our Goron Champion, Lord Daruk, and our Rito Champion, Warrior Revali.â
Daruk finished laughing and gave a large smile, teeth and allânothing but a look of pure enthusiasm. Revali, meanwhile, simply frowned and huffed a little. Zelda chuckled slightly, âOf course, you already know about our Gerudo Champion, Chief Urbosa.â If I didnât, I wouldnât be here right now, Link thought as he nodded his thanks for the introductions Urbosa managed to leave out. âPerhaps, tomorrow you can meet the other members of the Royal Council.â âThat would be appreciated Princess, sarqso.â Silence followed and she blinked, âI apologize, I didnât understand. Can you say that again?â Urbosa coughed into her fist a few times as she finished laughing and put a hand on his shoulder again. âHeâs saying thank you.â âOhhh,â Everyone but Urbosa and Link said in unison and realization. After dinner ended, Link went back to his room and started unpacking the rest of his stuff. When he finished, he changed into a beige long-sleeved shirt and brown pants and was about to go to lay down when he heard a knock at the door; with a frustrated sigh, he opened the door and saw Kada. âLady Kada,â Link started, âwhat are you doing up so late?â âSheikah always keep a vigilant eye on those they protect.â
He moved aside so she could come in.
âNo need. I just needed to give you a few more scrolls and some books.â She placed them in Link's arms and turned on her heel. âIâll see you tomorrow.â âSav'orr, Lady Kada,â Link said before closing the door and placed the items down and went to bed. âGoodnight to you too, Link.â Meanwhile, Lady Urbosa waited patiently in front of King Rhoamâs quarters. She could hear light muttering coming from the room and sighed heavily. Rhoam wasnât lying when he said they would talk about Link later, she just wasnât expecting it to be so soon. A short moment later the door opened and she was invited in. Rhoam sat at his desk while Lady Elfrida and Lord Cyrill where at either side of him. She bowed and waited until she was given permission to rise. Rhoam decided to end the silence that followed, âLady Urbosa, you know why weâre here, correct?â âYes, Your Grace. Itâs about Link.â She almost licked her lips but remembered she was wearing lipstick and mentally groaned. He nodded and put a hand to his chin, âNow, as you know, Hylians and Gerudos have always had aâŠrather shaky relationship.â âAnd as Gerudo chief it is my goal to help make it stable.â âIâm aware,â he replied flatly. âLady Elfrida?â She thanked him before starting, âHis Majesty will only consider not breaking the Hylian-Gerudo treaty when we learn about how Link fell under the care of the Gerudo.â âWell,â Darn her for not listening to her mother. âI was not chief when Link was accepted to live among us. My mother Lady Oma was. I was also at Hyrule Castle when it happened. My mother said she allowed Link to live in Gerudo Town despite being a Hylian voe because she believed if she tried to return him, the Gerudo would be accused of stealing him.â Lord Cyrill intervened before Elfrida could say something. âThat answers a question but it doesnât answer the question asked. How did Link get there?â âI-I donât know.â âSo, thereâs a chance he was stolen.â âI suppose. But, although I donât know, his mother might. Sheâs my second-in-command, so she canât come here, but a messenger may be able to get an answer for me.â Rhoam nodded once more, âI see. Write your letter; a messenger can be sent by tomorrow afternoon. Youâre dismissed.â Urbosa bowed again before leaving. When she left the room she heard quick footsteps and saw the yellow and blue tail of a dress turn around the corner. âPrincess Zelda?â she muttered to herself. She was curious about why Zelda was eavesdropping, but pushed it aside. She walked back to her room, changed, and went to bed. In the morning, a young handmaiden with light brown skin, dark brown eyes, and short black hair walked to Princess Zelda's chamber with a tray containing some food items. She nodded to one of the knights on duty and he quietly opened the door. She entered and as he closed the door she placed the tray on the table. Then, she walked over to a sleeping Zelda and woke her. The Princessâ moves were slow and sluggish but that didnât stop her from getting out of bed. The handmaiden pulled out a chair for her to sit; the princess yawned and rubbed her eyes before grabbing a small loaf of bed from the tray. âThank you, Coralyn.â âYouâre welcome, Princess,â she replied and grabbed a brush and comb off the vanity and the parts of her dress out of her wardrobe. She did Zeldaâs hair and helped her get dressed while she listened to her talk about her adventures traveling around Hyrule, her struggles with prayer, her love for Sheikah technology, and just random thoughts. When finished, Zelda took a book from her extensive book collection and sat back down at the table. Coralyn sat down as well and took a breath before saying, âUm, Your Highness?â
Zelda looked up in response.
âI heard the news about the Hylian Gerudo boy, and Iâm curious. What is he like? If you donât mind me asking.â Zelda marked where she left off with a bookmark and closed the book. âWell, um, heâsâŠinteresting, to say the least. ââInterestingâ? How so?â âWell, heâat dinner last night, he called Revali a vure. Which is apparently Gerudo for bird. Iâm not sure if he was mocking Revali when he called him that or if he was just ignorant. I also had to introduce him to the other Champions and offered to introduce him to the other Royal Councilorsâthank the Goddess they won't be back for a while.â âYou seem irritated. Do you not like him?â âI donât really know how to feel about him. Heâs, not to be rude, but heâs strange. But he did say something that caught my attention: he said he usually spends his time researching about Gerudo history; the question is, what portion?â âMaybe you two have more in common than you think.â âMaybe⊠Well, I suppose thatâs enough chatter for today. I need to go to the library.â She got up and placed the book on her desk and started heading for the door. âReally? What for?â Coralyn opened the door and followed Zelda out. âStuff,â she chuckled as Coralyn rolled her eyes slightly and the two separated. Zelda continued walking through the castle halls and made it to the library. She checked the shelves but couldnât find what she was looking for. She went upstairs and was rather surprised when she saw Link closely looking at the shelves. Part of her told her to leave before he noticed her, but the other part told her to confront him. She inhaled and walked up to him. âGreetings, Link,â she said a bit nervously. What was it about this boy that made her feel like this? It wasn't loveâshe had possible suitors being checked out anywayâbut it was just something about him. If only she could find out what it was⊠âSavâotta, Princess Zelda,â he replied. He stopped browsing the shelf and straightened himself. âUm⊠Right. A-about yesterday night, you said that you spend your downtime researching. Iâm curious since I do research myself, but what time period do you research?â âAny time period, as long as itâs related to the Gerudo, Your Highness. If you donât mind me asking, what do you research?â âI research Sheikah technology.â âWhatâs that about?â Her eyes lit up at the question. Anyone who made the semi-mistake of asking her about that knew she could talk about it for hours on end. âIâm glad you asked, but letâs go outside first. I tend to get a bitâŠexcited when I talk about this.â Link raised an eyebrow but followed the Princess anyway, unprepared for what would be the explanation of a lifetime.
A Hero This Time
When they realized he was a boy, the Gerudo panicked. It used to be that the birth of the Gerudo male was a time of happiness and celebration. The goddesses promise to them was still there. Then Ganondorf came.Â
Even his mother wasnât sure what to do, turning to their chief, chosen by Nabooru herself to lead them and keep the peace between the Gerudo and all other races of Hyrule. She held him for a long time before making her decision.Â
âWeâll raise him to be humble,â she said, âNo destined to be king. If he wants to lead, he must earn the right.â The Gerudo sighed in agreement.Â
âHe will grow up knowing he has to save even the smallest of us,â she said, âHe will be raised to be a hero.â
And she gave him the name of one.Â
The Gerudo were his mothers and sisters. Thatâs how Link would always think of them.Â
Tender nurturing hands to help him when he was hungry and tired; lost and sad. Pure iron muscle teaching him how to hold up their swords and spears, old veterans telling him tips on how to fight a full grown Molduga out in the desert. Laughing playful eyes, racing him from one side of the city to the other, daring him to steal a sand seal and take it on a joy ride.Â
He loved them all.Â
When Chief Raina pulled him aside to tell them their history, Link listened. They all worried how he would take it.Â
Link was awed with the Hero of Time, wondering how he could ever reach up to his name sake. He begged the oldest Gerudo, the one who had only seen the Hero as a child to tell him anything more.Â
âWell...I thought he was a little short,â she eventually told him.
Not long after, Link had a series of nightmares. When he was hushed and comforted he only pointed towards the hall of past chiefs. Ganondorf sneered at them from his old likeness, but did nothing else.Â
They all sighed in relief as Link took to scampering past him whenever he had to go through the hall.Â
The couldnât keep Link a secret though. They didnât want to, but they wanted him safe. Their worst nightmare soon became fear of a new Ganon harming their son.Â
Raina knew they had to act first. Link needed to know about the rest of Hyrule, had seen him gazing out towards the greener hills out in the distance.Â
When the letter came from Hyrule castle, she already had an entourage for him. His birth mother, Rainaâs personal bodyguard, and the same guardâs appretentice. Who was also Linkâs closest friend. Â
He cried and cried when she told him he was going.Â
âYou must be brave,â she told him, âthe hero was your age when he first started his adventure. Now you must start yours...but it will be much less dangerous for you though. And youâll be home before you know it.âÂ
She was proud watching him leave with his head held high...and his eyes still a little glassy.Â
Link looked around Hyrule Castle with wide eyes and an open mouth. He was used to walls looking plain and dull. The Gerudo usually wore their color. The Hylians put it on their houses it seemed.Â
It had taken all his strength not to run around in all the grass to see how different it was from the sand back home. Here...he felt smaller than normal. Sina at least looked as awed as he did.Â
He was glad Raina let her come, and his mother. Boorunis  was too stern and stone like to make him feel any better. She tried though.Â
Staring up the throne room at the King, Link froze up. His tongue felt heavy and dry in his mouth. He said nothing. He couldnât say anything.Â
The king at least, was patient, offering to meet with him another time. Boorunis spoke for him and said that would be fine.Â
Link caught sight of a young Hylian girl. Blonde hair braided neatly, ties matching her dress. She glared at him, sticking her tongue out at him behind her fatherâs back.Â
Sina was the one who responded in kind when the King dismissed them.Â
The King smiled when Link confessed he wished he could meet the Hero of Time. Apparently it was a good answer because the king shook his hand.Â
âThatâs a good dream to have in my opinion,â he said.Â
He also told Link he should meet the other races: the Zora, the Gorons, even the Rito who had just missed Ganonâs rage.Â
âYou should get to know Hyrule better,â he said, âsince you want to protect it.âÂ
Their small group went to Kakariko Village first. The Sheikah elders eyed Link much the same fear and worry as the people in Castletown.Â
Their children, were another matter.Â
In less than a day, Link had taught them all the Gerudo games and they the Sheikah ones. He made friends fast, Sina helping to translate his gestures when his tongue got tied up again. They were the ones to play in the fields of grass with him, and splash him with water from the river.Â
When they left Kakarikio it was with the Sheikah blessing. Ganonâs power did not reside in this child. He had no lust for power.Â
All through the voyage up the Zora River, Link watched the water warily. Water in the desert was usually still, calm, and warm. Here it was cold and moved fast. Link wasnât sure he could swim here. He couldnât even see the bottom.Â
He jumped into his motherâs lap when a head popped out of the water. When he saw Boorunis talking to it like an old friend he calmed down. Sina laughed at him and Link stuck his tongue out at her.Â
The king had told the Zoraâs he was coming and they were coming to meet him and carry them the rest of the way to Zoraâs domain.Â
Link gasped when he saw it. The water made the entire thing glow.Â
Heâd never seen anyone as big as King Dorifin and clammed up again. Boorunis had to speak for him again. She told him later she didnât mind. They were all welcome to stay as long as they wanted.Â
Link spent a long time examining the Zora. Heâd never seen anyone with fins before. The Zora all hated the sound of the desert, but they needed their water so he didnât blame them.Â
He loved their songs, the music they made. He was iffy about eating fish, but they promised him heâd like it.Â
âLink likes most food,â Sina assured them, nudging him.Â
After two days he finally jumped in the water. He panicked until he remembered how to tread water. He wasnât strong enough to swim back to shore though.Â
A Zora jumped in after him.Â
âClimb on my back,â she said, âIâll bring you to shore.âÂ
Runa was nice enough, so far as Zora Princesses went. She was as bad a tease as Sina, and both girls got along fabulously.Â
But she took a shine to Link.Â
âYou need fins and scales to swim like us in the river,â she said, âUsually Zoras make armor for our finacĂ©s. I donât like tradition though.âÂ
Link felt a little more at home on Death Mountain. It was hot, a little too hot to be honest, but dry.Â
The Gorons made up for it. Link loved them all instantly, even if they were a little rough. He longed to roll like they did. Out in the desert they might get stuck, but here it was so efficient going up and down the mountain.Â
They insisted on calling Link âbrotherâ. His mother didnât seem to like it.Â
âYou seem like a tough one, brother,â one told Sina. She looked over imperiously.Â
âIâm not a âbrotherââ she told him.Â
âErr...sister?âÂ
âI can do that one.â
Link was scared when they told him about fighting Dodongos. They seemed dangerous, but the Gorons said theyâd help him.Â
âThe old Hero of Time did it at your age,â the old chief told him, âand weâll supply the bombs.âÂ
Sina, Boorunis, and his mother were all waiting anxiously when he came out of the cave. He was positively beaming and the Gorons all cheered for him.Â
The Boss gave Link a big Goron sword. âTo grow into,â he said. His mother was livid when she realized they had snuck in a bomb bag too.Â
Link shivered his way up to the Rito Village. The Elder was happy to give him a coat when he did arrive. He snuggled into the down they had stuffed inside. Sina looked just as cozy.Â
Link was in awe watching them fly up for their âtarget practice.â Heâd never shot a bow before.Â
âHe takes to it like a fish to water,â the instructor said after his first lesson, âor a Gerudo to desert.â He hit the target every time after that, but never dreamed of ever being as good as a Rito.Â
Still, Â wrapped head to toe, and with his mother biting her nails as she looked on, Link gave it a try on his teacherâs back.Â
He hit every target.Â
âItâs a shame you werenât born with wings,â he said when they landed.Â
The elder had a glider crafted for him, as a parting gift when they left a few days later so he could always be âan honorary RitoâÂ
âThat is the last thing he needs,â his mother said, trying not to watch Link test it out.Â
It was six months later, and they were finally on their way home. They cut through a forest, trying to make it faster.Â
Link woke up before dawn, to giggling. He looked around, seeing something flit away with his paraglider. He was on his feet in an instant.Â
Just as quickly...he got lost. Boorunisâs training took over and Link closed his eyes, listing for a breeze, a sound to lead him.Â
The giggle sounded again.Â
Over and over, Link chased the noise. Slowly the trees thinned and the dawn light shone over the woods...and the thing that took his glider.Â
He tackled it, pulling the glider back. It laughed harder.Â
âYouâre back!â it cried, âmy old friend!âÂ
Link followed the self-named skull kid through to a great clearing, with the biggest tree he had ever seen.Â
âSo you have come again,â the tree said, âand I have no doubt youâve forgotten me. I know time is short, but you have come too early now. The sword doesnât call for you.âÂ
Link finally saw it...and knew it in an instant. The Master Sword...the sword of the Hero.Â
The Great Deku Tree laughed.Â
âYou can touch it if you wish, but donât try and take it. It wonât budge.â Link approached reverently, letting his fingers brush over the hilt. He jumped when he realized he had an audience.Â
âThe children of the forest remember you,â the tree said to him, âeven if you donât remember them. They have changed as much as you have, Link.â The little tree children hopped and laughed over him.Â
âHeâs so big! So brown! Pretty eyes! Pretty clothes! Can you play with us?âÂ
âThey will follow you home,â the tree said, âa few of them. But...only you can see them. Only you could find your way here.âÂ
âMay I have one promise,â the Deku Tree asked, âKeep my children safe?âÂ
Link nodded. The Tree laughed.Â
âI expected nothing less.âÂ
The next time Princess Zelda saw Link, she did not stick out her tongue at him. She instead looked to him as her ally.Â
âWe know Ganon is coming...and Kakariko is finishing the Divine Beasts,â She said, âwe just need the champions.âÂ
âPrincess Runa will be here soon, Instructor Keene taught me to shoot a bow and has been my friend since then. Darune leads the Gorons and wonât let another take his place. Sina insists that she comes with me too. Will they do?âÂ
âBrisk as ever,â Zelda commented, but smiled, âyou just need your sword.â Link blinked.Â
âWait until Ganon sees one of his own countrymen fighting against him,â Zelda said, âwe are going to succeed.âÂ
Linkâs heart skipped a beat when he realized what she meant. And far off, a korok laughed and went to tell the Deku Tree.Â
The Marriage of Lanayru, Chapter Seven
The Ghosts of the Past
Zelda reflects on what Ganondorf means to her and consults Midna about the nature of his magic.
1,800 words â (Also on AO3) (Story Tag on Tumblr)
* * * *
Zelda sighed as she looked out over the lights of Hyrule Castle from the window of her tower room. The day had been a nightmare, with interminable meetings and a steady stream of documents requiring her attention. The procession of tasks necessary to rebuild her kingdom after the siege seemed endless, and now she had the situation in Kakariko to deal with as well.
After their brief visit to the old Sheikah village, Ganondorf had gone off somewhere, and she hadn't seen him since. He had not objected to the prospect of becoming the next king, but she wondered if he were really cut out for the job. No matter what he may have been in his own time, running a country was vastly different than leading an army; a monarch cannot simply disappear and tend to his own business in the middle of the day.
It was embarrassing for Zelda to admit to herself that she had expected anything of Ganondorf. She originally intended for him to act as little more than a figurehead, and it suited her purposes for him to be here in the castle. If he returned to the desert, as she strongly suspected he wished to do, she would no longer be able to keep an eye on him.
Zelda turned away from the window and glanced at the pile of books on the small table that had served as a desk during her imprisonment. She had read about the Gerudo, a tribe that once built a thriving civilization strong enough to rival Hyrule. By all accounts they had enjoyed the prosperity that accompanied their assiduous management of the trade routes passing between the kingdoms that lay beyond the border of the western mountains. These kingdoms no longer sent emissaries, and Zelda did not know whether they had fallen into decline. Had Ganondorf attacked Hyrule because the Gerudo were suffering economically due to dwindling trade? Or had the Gerudo grown so wealthy and powerful that he assumed he would be able to conquer Hyrule without resistance?
The histories she consulted had not provided her with the answers she sought. Perhaps the only person who could tell her what happened was Ganondorf. How incredible it was that she found herself in the company of a living artifact from Hyrule's past. Everything from his accent to his gestures to the manner in which he ate was foreign to her, and she could never tell whether his strangeness was the product of his Gerudo heritage or of his temporal displacement.
Regardless, Ganondorf did not seem like the sort of person who would carelessly bring about the demise of his kingdom. Zelda was not blind to the hideous and terrible anger he carried within him, but even at his most furious he had maintained an iron-fisted control over himself. She had been enthralled during his battle against Link. She knew Link would win â he was fated to win â but she'd spent years studying the art of the sword, and she watched Ganondorf with keen interest. He was clearly uncomfortable with the heft and balance of the sword he wielded, but every move he made was calculated and deliberate.
It was clear to her that Ganondorf was not a madman, and the danger he posed lay not in the strength of his body or of his magic, but rather the strength of his will. Zelda realized he could be valuable to her, and that she may be able to use him. She decided to spare his life, and her resolve endowed her with the strength to pierce the magical barrier that separated her from him. To Link's amazement, she stayed the blade of the mythical Master Sword with her own hand.
If she were being honest with herself, however, she would have to admit that her decision to save Ganondorf had already been made in the moment when he pressed his mouth to hers, sharing her breath as he passed the essence of his Triforce into her dying body. She had been filled with the exhilaration of the energy flowing into her, and she understood for the first time what power meant. It was not just the burden of responsibility, but the freedom of an infinite potential.
Zelda turned away from the window and walked to the mirror. She blew onto it and wrote a quick succession of glyphs on its clouded surface. The glass pulsed with light twice, and then Midna's face jumped into sharp focus.
Zelda laughed in surprise. "That was quick."
Midna grinned back at her as she twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "I've been waiting. What kept you? Were you with your loverboy?" Midna's lips curled in distaste. "Because I certainly hope not."
"It's been a long day," Zelda replied. "Listen, speaking of Ganondorf, I have a question. What is magic, exactly? Is it something you were born with, as a Twili? Or is it something you inherited as a princess?"
"Wow." Midna raised her eyebrows. "Way to get metaphysical right off the bat."
Zelda shook her head. "I don't care about the theory, just the basic practicalities."
"Of course not, no one cares about the theory. As for the practicalities, we Twili have varying levels of ability. I was lucky enough to be born with a little magic, but I wouldn't have gotten anywhere if I hadn't studied my ass off for years. Isn't that what you did?"
"I... no. I didn't study magic." Zelda was embarrassed. "What magic I have came to me with the Triforce, and I really don't understand anything about it. We don't have books about magic here in Hyrule. But, since you were able to study it, do you think it was the same with the Gerudo?"
"Hmmmm..." Midna tapped her finger against her chin as she considered the question. "I don't know much about the Gerudo. Back in the day, you Hylians had a great deal of magic yourselves, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Gerudo had their own traditions. As someone who hated studying, I can tell you that your fiancé strikes me as someone who probably loved it. He's such a damn nerd."
Zelda covered her mouth with her hand to hide her grin. She had never thought of Ganondorf like that before, but Midna's description of him was apt.
Midna rolled her eyes and continued. "You know what I'm talking about, then. That boy spent too much time reading, and then he became a loner with unrealistic ambitions and a delusional savior complex. He's such a stereotype. Honestly, I don't know how you stand him. Still... I can't deny that he's good at what he does, and there's probably a reason the Triforce chose him. There's no accounting for taste, I guess."
Zelda was amused, but she pressed on with her line of questioning. "You said that you don't know much about the Gerudo. Can you tell me anything?"
Midna shrugged. "Not really, only that they were one of the tribes of Hyrule. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of digging through old books."
"Do you know if they were associated with boars?"
Midna scowled. "I don't know whether they were or not, but I can tell you who is â the man you stupidly decided to marry. You were really out of it when Link and I fought him in your castle, probably because he had just possessed your body, which, you know, is obviously a healthy start to a relationship. Can we talk about that, by the way?"
"Midna, please."
"Okay, whatever. Anyway, your hubby-to-be transformed himself into a giant boar, except it was more of a demon, just raw strength and pure rage. Or, it wasn't really a boar; it had thick fleshy toes instead of hooves, and I can't swear that it wasn't scaly. It creeped me out, and let me tell you, I've seen some things..."
Midna paused for a moment and massaged her temples before continuing. "In any case, that's what you can thank for the destruction of your throne room. You're not going to want to hear this, but I think he was trying to take on the form of the legendary demon king Ganon. I mean, that's how he persuaded that idiot Zant, by saying he was Ganon. It would make sense, given that he calls himself 'Ganondorf.' The thing is, though â I'm pretty sure Ganon isn't just a legend. I think it's real, and I think it has something to do with why we Twili were banished from Hyrule in the first place. I can tell you the story, but why don't you tell me why you're asking about boars in the first place?"
"I'm sorry, Midna," Zelda responded. Her suspicions had been confirmed, and her heart was racing. "I think I have to go. Can we talk about this later?"
"Oh..." Midna's face fell. "I bet you just remembered an important conversation you're supposed to be having with someone else. Fine. But be careful with him, okay? I wouldn't trust him any farther than I can throw a, you know, a..."
"A pumpkin?" Zelda suggested.
"That's right!" Midna snapped her fingers.
Zelda smiled, grateful for Midna's concern. "I don't believe Ganondorf is a threat. At least, not in the way everyone thinks he is. Still, I suspect he knows something that he's not telling me."
"Have you tried using your feminine wiles? I bet he's a real beast in bed, if you know what I'm saying."
Zelda raised an eyebrow. "You're one to talk. By the way, how's Link?"
"Listen, Zelda," Midna said, suddenly serious. "We'll be here for you, me and Link. We're right on the other side of this mirror. If you need us, just reach out, okay? We'll come for you."
Midna raised her hand to the glass. "Thank you," Zelda whispered, touching her fingers to Midna's palm.
The connection flickered and died out, and Zelda allowed her shoulders to drop. She rolled her head and rubbed the back of her neck. Her heart was still pounding in her chest, and she felt her exhaustion fading. She was looking forward to talking with Ganondorf, and she knew exactly where to find him.
I bet he's a real beast in bed. Midna's words lingered in Zelda's mind, and her face grew warm as she blushed. What she didn't want to tell her friend was how incredible it felt when Ganondorf's spirit had entered her. He offered her his life, and she had taken it, knowing full well what sort of power it would give him over her. When he came to her in her tower room, he was not the prince she had always dreamed of, but he was the only person who had ever seen her in a moment of true weakness and not turned away in disappointment. However terrible he may have been, she was not afraid of him.
