Happy New Year's Eve, Slay the Princess community!

A long, long message and credits to the designs are under the cut.

[Please excuse any awkward sentences, weird repetitions, and grammatical mistakes, I've been awake for 20 hours or so]

I cannot describe how much joy I feel right now, finally getting this drawing done. I feel nothing but joy when I think about Slay the Princess, and I feel nothing but pure adoration when I think about and spend time in this community. This game and this community truly brought a lot of happiness to me and made this otherwise unremarkable, maybe even depressing, year that much brighter. I wish I had more and better words to describe what I'm feeling right now! Genuinely, I don't have words to describe how much gratitude I feel right now.

And so for my final piece of 2024, I wanted to make a thank you drawing to this community and hopefully express the fraction of love and gratitude I feel right now. And I decided to make that drawing a group photo of 30 different Heroes! It ended up being 29 Heroes and one Opportunist, but I promise there is a reason for that-

If I had more time and energy, I would've included even more people, there are so many skilled artists, writers, and wonderful people in general who ended up excluded, especially due to this drawing being a voice-centered piece. But I'm glad I at least get to highlight some of the wonderful creators and artists in this community! Please check them out and support their work! They are all amazing <3

First! I sincerely apologize if I missed some details with your Hero design, or if I used an outdated version of it. I wanted to keep this a surprise, and for some of these, I had to dive into the depths of Tumblr to find (hopefully) relevant references. And yes, if you've received a DM from me about your Hero in the past few weeks or so, this project was the reason why! I can't believe we only have one week left til is all over for real 😫 Time has truly flown by so quickly since we first met Clone Force 99 all the way back in 2020. I'll admit, the first time I met them, I was like ok cool. These dudes are pretty fun to watch. Now, they've come to mean so much to me. I guess that's one perk of having the show come out whilst in school; it felt like I was going on a journey with them. And now, it all comes to a close.

I don't know what the finale will have in store (pain), but I do know that I'm gonna miss this little family so much. I've loved watching my blog grow over the past few years and meeting so many incredible people who love this show just as much as I do. I love seeing all the fics, fanarts, analyses, and memes people create for TBB. We're a small but mighty fandom.

So, thank you everyone for a truly wonderful past 4 years with Clone Force 99. I'm still gonna be posting about these boys and Omega, even if the show is over. (And nothing will ever take "The Outpost" from me. You're gonna have to claw that episode away from cold, dead hands. It's truly that special to me).

I'll be mentally preparing for the finale, but I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for this wonderful fandom and show :)

Nova’s Notes - Dracula Daily - June 25

Where Jonathan springs into action!

“No man knows till he has suffered from the night how sweet and how dear to his heart and eye the morning can be. When the sun grew so high this morning that it struck the top of the great gateway opposite my window, the high spot which it touched seemed to me as if the dove from the ark had lighted there. My fear fell from me as if it had been a vaporous garment which dissolved in the warmth.”

His poetic side is just…*chef’s kiss*. It’s interesting also how he uses religious imagery here with the dove from Noah’s ark in the Bible. I want to dive a bit deeper into this because I think it holds meaning.

For those who may not know, the story goes that God flooded the earth and Noah and his family (plus two of every animal) were the sole survivors because he built an ark as he was instructed to. Well, after many *many* days of this flood, Noah sent a dove from the ark out. If it came back empty-beaked, they would know the flood was still on, but if it came back with something (which it did — an olive leaf), they would know the flood was ended and it would soon be time for them to be on dry land once again.

I think Jonathan comparing the sun to this dove in particular tells me that he sees it as a messenger, both of peace to him (because doves are often used as symbols of peace and his fear falls away) and that he needs to stop being passive. If he imagines that this time as a prisoner has been spent like he’s in the ark during the flood, that time has now come to an end: now it is time for him to step out onto the “land” which is almost quite literal here. He confirms this by saying:

“I must take action of some sort whilst the courage of the day is upon me. Last night one of my post-dated letters went to post, the first of that fatal series which is to blot out the very traces of my existence from the earth.”

“Let me not think of it. Action!”

He knows his time is limited and — wisely — treats it as such. As many have pointed out, Dracula has made a mistake by giving Jonathan a time limit. As he himself has said, he knows the span of his life and that is one heck of a motivator. Not to mention, he just experienced two horrific events last night (even if he didn’t see them exactly, he knows they happened and that’s enough) and it is justifiable cause to get him moving. Some people would sink into despair and wait for death to approach them, but for Jonathan, it has the opposite effect.

He figures that the Count must need some time to rest and if it’s not at night (which is always the time he’s harassed), it must be daytime, right? And the best way to find him would be to infiltrate his room — if only it weren’t locked.

But then Jonathan gets an idea. An awful idea. A wonderful, *awful* idea!

Sorry, y’all! Had to make the Grinch reference. Anyway, yes, Jonathan decides that if Dracula can crawl up walls in a lizardly fashion, so can he. Desperate times call for desperate measures. If he doesn’t make it back well…

“Good-bye, Mina, if I fail; good-bye, my faithful friend and second father; good-bye, all, and last of all Mina!”

First of all, this is so sad and so sweet that he says bye to Mina first and last (again, that first and last thing to show you care is becoming a running theme here) and calling Mr. Hawkins a second father is also very sweet.

Secondly, if you also thought of the “you said bye Squidward twice” meme like I did when you saw this (I promise I’m trying to be serious), there’s fanart for that! Check out this lovely art by @count-skribula!!

“I went whilst my courage was fresh straight to the window on the south side, and at once got outside on the narrow ledge of stone which runs around the building on this side.”

So it’s interesting that he chooses to not go from the window on his room, but instead to go from the South window. One reason may be that, as he says in the next sentence, the stones are bigger here and can probably hold him better, but I don’t think that’s the only reason.

I went back to the first Lizard Fashion entry to figure out a bit more about why that may be. Here’s what I found:

“The window at which I stood was tall and deep, stone-mullioned, and though weatherworn, was still complete; but it was evidently many a day since the case had been there.”

So this is referencing the South window and it sounds like this window is much easier to fit a human being through than, say, the one in his room. Going back to this entry was also useful because it references where the Count’s room is in relation to this window:

“As I leaned from the window my eye was caught by something moving a storey below me, and somewhat to my left, where I imagined, from the order of the rooms, that the windows of the Count's own room would look out.”

So while this window is more ideal for his ease of movement, it will be more difficult for Jonathan to reach the room itself.

“I took off my boots, and ventured out on the desperate way. I looked down once, so as to make sure that a sudden glimpse of the awful depth would not overcome me, but after that kept my eyes away from it. I knew pretty well the direction and distance of the Count's window, and made for it as well as I could, having regard to the opportunities available.”

He even gets the Lizard Fashion down to taking off his BOOTS and going barefoot. Also, have I mentioned I love Jonathan and his smartness today? Because I do!!! Him looking down once so it doesn’t catch him off guard later is so….UGH. I don’t go into fangirl mode often, but for him? Always. What a guy, so smart. I don’t know why that detail gets me but it does!! Love that man.

ANYWAY, you can tell he’s been watching the Count very often — probably every night — if he knows exactly where the window is. So another cool detail right there.

I love how he describes himself as excited initially until he reaches the window, at which point he feels agitated, whether it’s from trying to open the windowsill or just from his proximity to the Count.

After diving (feet-first) into the window, he discovers that there’s no Count! The room, in fact, is practically empty. He is able to make some astute observations about it, however:

1) It looks like most of the other South rooms he’s seen.

2) It’s dusty — obviously in disuse.

3) the Gold CornerTM — filled with gold from different countries (that he’s able to name!). It’s also dusty as if it’s been in the ground, but less than three centuries old. The jewels and chains that lay there are old and stained. It’s interesting that he takes the time to note this. It must’ve taken a while to go through the coins and note their age and where they’re from!

While he can’t open the outer door and there’s no key to speak of, he does notice a heavier door that’s open. It leads to a big spiral stairway…this is usually the part where I’d say “turn around and go back!!!” But Jonathan has proven himself quite capable for a horror protagonist thus far and he’s already taken so much effort to get to this point, why not?

At the bottom of the tunnel, he finds a door which leads to an old and broken chapel which smells of “old earth newly turned” — a horrible smell, apparently. Inside, he finds the ground has indeed been dug up, with the dirt now in boxes, the same boxes the same he saw from the Slovaks’ wagon. There are also three vaults to go into. Ever the sleuth, he carefully combs over every inch of the chapel. Going into two of the vaults yields nothing but the heebie-jeebies (with coffins and more dirt), but the third…

“There, in one of the great boxes, of which there were fifty in all, on a pile of newly dug earth, lay the Count! He was either dead or asleep, I could not say which—for the eyes were open and stony, but without the glassiness of death—and the cheeks had the warmth of life through all their pallor; the lips were as red as ever.”

Yep, Dracula jumpscare! He’s in a dirt bed (has anyone made a teenage dirtbag edit for him yet? Can we make that a thing?) and sleeps with his eyes open. *shudders*

It’s interesting that Jonathan notes while he seems dead — he even searches him for signs of life by bending over to look at his breathing — he notes that he can’t have been dead long and seems to retain some signs of life. And, most disturbingly, when he goes to search him for keys (one of his original missions here) his eyes have taken on an expression of hate. Either he has RBF (literally) or he’s not as lifeless/asleep as first thought.

“I fled from the place, and leaving the Count's room by the window, crawled again up the castle wall. Regaining my room, I threw myself panting upon the bed and tried to think....”

Now, I know you may be thinking “Jonathan, WHAT??? You went all that way just to do nothing and run back??” And yeah, I get it. But he actually did find out some good information here, both about this castle and himself:

Where Dracula sleeps

Dracula *does* rest during the day (although how is uncertain)

Dracula has currency from around the world (less than 300 years old and likely kept buried — why?)

What the Slovaks are doing

There are hidden passages in this castle (possibly more?)

Jonathan can go into Lizard Fashion ModeTM and even in a rush, too!

Keys may be a lost cause here (try something else to escape)

I would consider this productive, because above all, some of the scariest part of this whole experience for him has been his inability to gain information. Hearing the Slovaks do their work, seeing Dracula come and go, being simply locked in his room has been grueling on him. At least being able to gain some kind of information is extremely valuable and the fact that he’s setting his mind straight to thinking tells me this was not an idle trip.

Also, as a fun note: another user (here’s the post) pointed out there are airholes in the cover of Dracula’s dirt box and…yes there are LOL. Like he’s a little bug 😂😂😂 I have no special reason to point this out, I just really like that this is a thing.

Live-read: The Wheel of Destiny #1, Atcham.

Before I begin this post I want to acknowledge multiple things:

On the hierarchy of canonical media, web articles are like... the bottom of the barrel. I already suspected this, but season 4 fully retconning Eva's parents from the lore articles sealed the deal. For this reason, take these as nothing but the sort of canon that will get retconned at the first available opportunity.

I recently found out that the Wheel of Destiny 8, the one about Kerubim, seems to use stolen fanart by Flowerimh, which is sad. I don't know where else to put this, because I don't want to make a separate post about this. Flowerimh isn't even active anymore...

Despite these two things, let us proceed to read this article together:

So, this article happens anywhere from one year to a decade before Joris was born, and at this time, Atcham and Julith were already acquainted and spending free time together.

Spoiler alert: They are searching for Kerubim.

Keke getting called a "precious runt" is on par with the shit Joris gets called. Wonderful. I do wonder why they would search for him in Brakmar. Someone confused him for Atcham? Maybe they asked Kerubim himself, and he didn't want to deal with them, and so, sent them to Brakmar on a wild goose chase?

I will not be asking "what did he do" because, like, Fifi Pretty Calves exists. He has enough enemies to have a price on his head.

I am literally in love with him, and every single way he is described in this part of the text.

"He had a preference for sibilant sounds", "Aw, poor little puppy", "the only reason he hadn't robbed them blind is because he wanted to know more".

He was so excited.... he thought they wanted him (not carnally).... ��

He takes a lot of pride in his work and insane behaviours.

Atcham considers himself an extraordinary adventurer and a valiant fighter. AND HE ISSSSSS. But it is interesting that besides being a killer for hire, he probably also adventures.

He was so ready to be the one people wanted to kill just once, and they ruined his whole fucking evening.

Imagine this being your day-to-day life, for decades. Just people laughing at you, laughing because you still hadn't caught on that you're the joke, and laughing when you finally understand that, and get upset.

Laughing about you behind your back, to some random stranger, too. Because they still hadn't realized they're literally talking about him.

I think this is a good time to say that I headcanon Atcham as autistic. It is simply a headcanon, but one rooted in the themes of his character. I think it is a fitting conclusion, (albeit, just like my hcs of Joris having ADHD and OCD and Kerubim having comorbid BPD and HPD, very accidental one, on part of the writers).

I could talk for hours on the way neurodivergence, disability, body issues, and violence-as-response-to-abuse intersect in Atcham's character, — or the way he hates everyone preemptively, because he knows that they will probably hurt him, yet still tries to be at least a bit kind and fair to others (....who aren't Kerubim).

I am probably not autistic, — however, I am neurodivergent, and I love & relate to him, so yeah. Always rotating this bingus in my brain.

Imagine this being your whole life.

I read descriptions of Atcham being cool and fast, and all the analysis leaves my brain as I say "awooga hummina hummina".

The fact that nobody ever wed him is literally so unrealistic, like WHAT DO YOU MEAN you don't want the weird, mentally ill, neurodivergent twink.

We never see Atcham's home in Brakmar, but from the description of "tattered", and the way his bed looks in the comic panel I inserted earlier in the post, it is safe to say his home is the definition of "girlrotting". It probably smells. Bad.

Says the woman whose kindness will also be the death of her, — and her ruthlessness too.

Because of her visiting his home so nonchalantly, and their interactions as a whole, I like to view Atcham and Julith as somewhat close friends, — as close as two very emotionally repressed people, who have a huge age difference, and don't like to admit that they feel anything positive, can be.

He probably didn't mourn her, — not after she was presumed dead for ten years, and not after she died for real.

But he probably still thinks about her, once in a while.

Just got done watching the entire new hbomberguy video and like,, yeaj

One thing i thought about that he only briefly touched on was, with this uncertain social status of youtubers as content creators, i am so sure that many youtube video essayists plagiarize bc they're truly convinced that that's just how the youtube format/platform... Works. When i was a kid who was discovering the internet, i remember, youtube was crawling with AMVs that were just... slideshows of uncredited fanart set to music. i don't think anyone asked for the art to be sourced back then, or even wondered if the artists knew their drawings were in AMVs. some platforms still work that way. Look at when we got all the reddit refugees here and their little r/169 or whatever tag was full of uncredited art and memes, like what they'd post on their subreddit, and they genuinely didn't know that this is Not Nice To Do Here. Genuinely i can see the mental leap to "why not also use other people's essays, articles and videos for my thing? After all, those are available for free on the internet!" Of course it all gets a lot trickier when youtubers want to graduate from "just nerdy amateurs goofing around in their free time for their 15 followers" to serious content creators who make money from their channels, while still freely using other people's creations, bc that is where the rammies come in

I've been reading through the book, but just wanted to give myself more time to write out my thoughts. And I wanted to make a longer compilation, rather than many smaller ones. (I believe it's a bit more easier to follow.) I'm thoroughly enjoying the book so far. So much so, that I try to make time for it every single day and feel really excited about coming back to it.

Recent reactions and thoughts:

Hell, yeah! Gideon got back the key from Harrow. No more dicking around for her. Jail time.

A book bound in human leather... Interesting... There are more than a few instances that suggests that Earth and humans do exist in this story, and necromancers are somehow derived from them (including their culture and religion), so I am interested to see whether or not this gets explained later on. If a aci-fi book connects to Earth somehow, to "reality", it usually offers some sort of hint at what happened with it.

"Maybe rigor... mortis," said Gideon, who assumed that puns were funny automatically." Yeah, well, I too find them funny automatically. So she's not wrong.

Ok, that thing with Harrow controlling Gideon?? So cool.

Anybody else completely lost during Magnus's and Abigail's anniversary dinner? Maybe I was just tired, so I couldn't follow what was going on, but still...

Loved the scenes of Harrow and Gideon working together through that fight!!!!! Fuck yeah!!!

You know when I think of JO fanart I think of you right? When I picture Jure's little cat smile I think of your kitty mouths? You have a very noticeable style and holy shit you draw quick and a fuck tonne!! I adore everything you make and if you have no fans it means I'm dead.

I get wanting them to see your work. They get hundreds of tags every day and Nace is the only one who actually reposts shit. We can't say how they feel looking at it. Maybe they share it with the others or really really enjoy it but don't repost for whatever reason. We can't assume they don't like it at all just because they don't share it.

It's pretty special they even do look at it, they don't have to be as involved with their fans as they are. I get being jealous and wondering why other people get shared and not you but that's not a reflection of the quality of your work. I dunno why they share some and not others but there's no point trying to guess cause we'll never know.

Your brain is dumb and sometimes it's just gonna be dumb. I value you a lot and your art and look forward to maybe meeting you in the queue and getting a sticker and being like "aaaaah holy shit I have a dope ass sticker ahhhhhhhhhh"

The first paragraph still makes me tear up sometimes it is so freaking sweet 😭. Especially the part about Jure’s smile 🥹. I feel like I’ve lost the drive to make art quickly (I say knowing full well I drew six sketches for the fanart meme this weekend) and that was my entire thing as an artist as some point: Not being the best but at least being quick. Now I’ve seen way more people quicker than I that keeps up the quality, so I am not sure if that point still stands with me being quick and productive. Never the less I still really appreciate these words <3

The next part is funny to read back on since I did end up being blessed by Nace in the end – twice in a row ��😭. I’m still probably insufferably happy about that and he owns part of my heart for all he does for the fandom, I mean as you say yourself he (and the others) doesn’t have to be involved yet he chooses to be. And that’s pretty special for sure.

I hope you still enjoy the sticker. It was so nice meeting you in the queues and so happy you had a great time in Europe and at their gigs (and that you got your drumstick(s)). 🤗

Late night thoughts vol. 1

It's 4 am and I cannot sleep so I'm just gonna splooge some random thoughts that I have (some positive, some negative, and some that's probably just nonsense.)

Uhh, I like to get negatives out of the way first so I guess I can start with that.

- Does anyone else miss when art/animation communities felt more niche but open? I'm particularily talking about the animation meme community here cause that's a community I've more or less lurked in for a long time. I remember a time when there was the big three of animation memes a lot of people and myself were inspired by. It feels silly to say that what got me into art were a bunch of independent artists animating anime cats fighting eachother, but that's exactly what happened. I loved these creators (still do) and I looked forward to seeing what else these creators had to offer. As time went on, more creators came in the fray with a lot of cool talent and craftmanship and it was honestly very cool seeing what everyone had to offer. That's something I loved most about AMC, that so many were able to feel free to create whatever they wanted and how wonderful it paid off to see that creativity put into so many special masterpieces of independent art and animation, and that's something I'll always admire. So it breaks my heart to see what the AMC has became. Don't get me wrong, there's still a ton of great artists out there and y'all are fantastic, but I cannot help but feel like the environment in that community especially had gotten a lot more vile than what it started off as. To be fair, that's pretty much any community these days, I'm well aware of that. But I have never seen so much drama, so much infighting, and so much people being deplorable to eachother in my life that it's honestly sickening! I've always wanted to make my own animation memes and I still do, I have a TON of ideas I'd love to get to eventually, but if I ever decide to post them, don't expect me to engage much with the rest of the community. IMO, the best communities you can have are the small close ones you have with your best pals.

- For the past few years, I've been distancing myself from big social media branches and fandoms because of how toxic the environments can be for some of these spaces especially, and it's honestly helped a lot with my mental health (Deleting my Twitter and moving here has honestly been one of the best things I've done last year). It's partially why I've stopped posting so frequently, because really the only people I truly care about pleasing are me and all my close friend groups and found families I've built. I don't really care about statistics and platform building, if people like my stuff, then that's cool. I can look at a post I made with bigger numbers than usual and go "huh, that's pretty neat" and then move on talking about a crossover AU I've been cooking up with my boyfriend. That's not to say I don't appreciate my followers or people who like my content, I do. But know that what I make isn't catered to what'll get me the most attention, it's what'll make me and my family happy. And if people like that, then that's cool. Maybe every now and then I'll ask my followers what they'd like to see, maybe a fanart raffle or sketch request event, I think that'd be nice. But for the most part, this page is very, and I mean VERY self indulgent.

- Uhh I've been doing okay for the most part, personal issues I don't wanna get to aside. I've mainly been working on plushies, commissions and other self indulgent projects. I mentioned before that I got into the latest Cookie Run game, and that's pretty cool. I've mostly focused on making art for that and mine and my boyfriend's OC/AU projects. I'll post more about it when I get there, but for now uhh... gay people.

I'm of the opinion that society only became ready for characters like Mickey Mouse and Popeye to be in the public domain now, and no sooner.

When you look back on the copyright extension acts of decades past, I think maybe, just maybe, it was a good thing for Mickey Mouse. Disney was only just getting back on its feet in the 1980s, after a long period of stale, formulaic, somewhat low-effort films and comics. If Mickey Mouse had gone public domain soon after Mickey's Christmas Carol had been released, Disney would've lost control of their flagship character during a time when they were just figuring what to do with him again. I think this would've made Disney's Renaissance era just a little bit worse. I couldn't tell you how exactly, since that would be mere speculation, but they may have been less inclined to build Mickey's Toontown or reprint Floyd Gottfredson comics, or anything like that.

The same thing goes for the late 1990s. If they had lost Mickey then, I have a feeling that wonderful cartoons like Runaway Brain and House of Mouse would've been less likely to have been made.

Here's what I'm thinking: Say that a Steamboat Willie horror movie had been made in, I dunno, 1988. Coming right after or before Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Disney seeing their most famous character tainted by a slasher film probably would've taken the wind out of their sails. Would the Eisner-era "returning to their glory days" attitude have been so prevalent? The entire decade of animation might've looked a bit different.

Disney today is very, very different. While they still see dollar signs when it comes to Mickey, and they still make good quality cartoons with him in it, the last time Disney really cared about classic 1930s Mickey was in the late 2000s, around the time when Epic Mickey came out. A retro, proud-of-our-heritage version of Mickey is something Disney no longer cares about, which goes hand-in-hand with the revisionism that plague the remakes of their classic films. Despite the "Rebrushed" version of Epic Mickey, I don't think Disney really wants to be retro anymore.

The other half of the equation is the internet and its indie creators. Remix culture is basically a revival of how most humans made art throughout most of history- not trying to come up with an "original idea", but making something derivative of what came before. Critics who complain about "endless sequels and remakes" probably despise this idea, but the fact of the matter is that nothing is completely original, and stuff like YouTube Poop, video game music covers, memes, and fanart is the 21st century version of that. There's a feeling going around that big media corporations aren't truly making the content we want to see anymore, and I'm inclined to agree. Marvel movies have already peaked and have gone downhill, we seem to be burnt out on Star Wars, and Warner Bros. generally seems to hate animation nowadays. I've been waiting for Disney to relearn what makes Mickey Mouse great for years. A cartoon series equivalent to DuckTales (the original, mind you), adapting Floyd Gottfredson stories has been a pipe dream for some time now. I just might make animatics for that idea myself.

So that's my take on it. Public interest in using these characters is coming at the right time, in my opinion. As for Popeye, I'm gonna wait until the whole spinach thing, as well as Bluto and Wimpy, are in the public domain before I seriously consider using the character.

You're making me wonder: Is Bagley's head tangible?? Like, ik you drew a scene with Colin(I think,) was holding his face(?) and it gave off the idea that his head can be touched and interacted with. But, was that just that scenario in general? If (hypothetically) someone tries to smack him in the head, would it somehow work normally, or will the hand phase through??

(Or, even bizarrely, could someone whack his head off??)

I feel bad admitting this but whether he’s physical or not kinda depends on my mood or what i’m gonna draw for Bagley 😭

Because to be honest i never really worked on this, the really really first draft for Bagley is that his entirety is just a hologram, so your hand would go straight through.

My initial thought with his way to appear on screen is, he uses the operatives optiks to display himself so the operative would see him on the optiks (kind of like that AR reconstruction in game, or even more simply like a Vtuber kind of display). He can also be projected as a hologram like that briefing table in the safe house. (Personally i like the Optik one more… tho both works). So when you smack his head it wouldn’t do anything and your hand would just go straight through, unless he wants to give some sort of reaction. But i believe he would pretend his head fell off just to mess with the operative.

I do still use the previous two ideas every time i draw something that’s more “serious” or that’s more related to his character alone rather than some funny memes.

But overtime i started to ignore that sometimes especially when drawing yume type of fanart of him because i find it a little frustrating every time i draw him hugging or do any kind of physical interaction the operatives i want i have to consider that the operative can’t feel anything from it since he’s a hologram, so i choose to not consider it and just pretend he’s physically there since i really really want to hug him and have the operative interact with him (there goes why that pic of Colin holding Bagley exists, and many other silly fanarts of him)

If you feel like that’s too inconsistent, i drew him as a robot/android before (though his head is still that hologram…) i just never really worked on this idea that much:

tldr: physical or not, he’s kind of whatever you want him to be 😭

There are even more minors on Bsky than on Tumblr it seems. Or maybe they’re just more open about it. They’re in every mature space and overrunning anything I might have an interest in.

Fandom skews so very young now. I steer clear of the 18-19 year olds, maintain what I hope are appropriate boundaries with the lower 20s, and straight up block anyone under 18.

But I’m wondering if I’m getting a bit too old for what fandom is now. I find myself stepping away from a lot of media or quickly being turned off it because I just do not feel comfortable there.

Pure fine art spaces are intimidating and a bit dry. Not a lot of goofy downtime fun there. Those and original fiction are currently more work and focus than I have the resources for so I probably won’t make the transition yet.

But… there is fanart and fanfiction that I’m just not sharing and feel discouraged from making. I’m even second guessing dark memes or being silly goofy because edgy crass humour attracts the kids. I’m self censoring. Not necessarily because it’s violent or sexually explicit. Or anything illegal.

It’s more that I’m uncomfortable and inhibited about creating or engaging around people in wildly different developmental stages to me. Especially if it’s anything emotionally complex or doesn’t match the idealogical purity of something created for teens or children.

I am an adult and often draw on my own life experiences to create things that are challenging, realistic, and messy. And that can be a problem.

The very young people (or kids) seek out “adult content” because they’re drawn to the edge but often miss the point.

They can’t seem to distinguish fiction from reality. Don’t understand how to deal with trolls or not be a troll. Can’t manage conflict or disagreement in a mature way.

For some every situation, hypothetical question, piece of art or adult space is interpreted as sexualized and perceived as an invitation to engage with it in that way.

Others don’t understand that not every character is them and would behave differently. Or that the villain or the author is not their RL abuser. They don’t understand that sometimes depiction is deconstruction or even critique.

There is no nuance. There are no shades of grey. No understanding of an unreliable narrator or why the curtains are blue.

I can’t count on them to have mature or respectful reactions to anything they see that is too complex for their age group or outside of their life experience. With the kids that ignore 18+ signposting or lie about their age I can’t even expect them to respect basic boundaries.

In fact I think a lot of the harassment of creators may have been because people were not at a stage to be able to manage their reactions to the content they sought out.

Also… I’m simply a grown ass adult and don’t like constantly being mixed in with kids or teens. Or brand new adults.

I have no idea what the solution is because I don’t want the privacy invasion of bills like KOSA (similar measures are still going ahead outside the USA).

I’m just frustrated because the online spaces I can enjoy as an adult are few and my comfort zone for engaging is getting smaller.

1. List 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)

Yttd: I trully love the people I met through this fandom! Even if I don't talk a lot with them, it is such a fun to see their posts. The analysis about this game are always so interesting and well-thought-through. This game and fandom really saved my creativity and really helped me with my opinion about my own art. I never thought I would draw fanart, but here we are. This fandom is really inspiring.

UT: I really love this fandom, because of AUs. There is a lot of them, but they are so creative and I really like some of them. And they are still going! I still see new ones. They make really funny content too! The memes and funny animations make my day.

E/c: I don't really know what to say about this fandom as I see so little things from it, that I am my biggest e/c fandom. But the people I met that like this game were so nice and their discussions about it are so fun. The sparse fanart is cute and I really need more fanwork in general for this fandom.

6. Something you see in art a lot and love

Yttd: I really love seeing interpretations of characters or events. Yttd is a fandom full of miningful artworks that makes you stop and think "wow, that hits hard" and "wow, my heart bleeds" as with miningful often comes angst. I love seeing headcanons others have and how much fun with characters they have!

UT: I love that a lot of artists draw characters so accurately. You can just look at the artwork and you know what that is for.

E/c: I just love seeing that there is art. There isn't a lot for me to answer this question.

16. A tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate

This question is even harder than the previous one. I don't consider myself a very observant person and I don't think I noticed something that isn't talked about aready. So my answer may be not accurate or it may not even be a real answer lol only my wondering.

Yttd: I think this fandom talks about everything. The details, reactions, traits, even colors. I've never met a fandom this devoted to pick little things. I love it so much. But if I have to think about one thing I don't see much, is actually from the manga. I didn't read it, only looked through the first pages, so I don't know if it is significant later in the manga, but I love that Sara has a matching cat keychain from Joe. I don't know, I just think we should to include it more in art (and not only) as it is such a sweet detail to their friendship.

UT: I can't think of anything here :(((

E/c: Can I pick the whole game as the tiny detail? XD in general, I think this game is not appreciate enough. But one thing that I can think from the game is the trust page. I know it is really obvious one (and not really a "tiny detail"), but I really love how Aether's scale is shown. And I think it was a really good and interesting take of it.
