Story Summary: Qrow has always had a hard time dealing with the shitty hand he was dealt. It wasn’t until he met Ozpin that he started to feel like maybe life wasn’t so bad. Helping Oz and protecting his nieces are the two main things that get Qrow out of bed in the morning. When he introduced the girls to their Uncle Oz he didn’t expect anything to come of it. Boy was he wrong.

Chapter Summary: The Vytal Festival has come to Vale, and Qrow comes back with an unsettling warning for the Inner Circle...

Also, Qrow being Howard oddly fits if you picture him as a raging alcoholic who unintentionally neglects Ruby while she was growing up)

2) Penny Polendina as J.A.R.V.I.S. / Vision (reasoning: A..I. and android who is close friends with Ruby)

3) Pietro Polendina as Ultron (reasoning: okay, so this one is a bit of a stretch. Since Ultron is the “father” of Vision, then it made sense that Penny’s father would take this role. Just imagine that Pietro is a rogue A.I./killer robot made by Ruby and Yang in this AU)

4) Oscar Pine as Pepper Potts (reasoning: Jaune and Weiss have already been cast, so I guess this AU is a Rosegarden fic)

5) Coco Adel as James Rhodes / War Machine (reasoning: I was running low on characters. This is literally just because her main weapon is a minigun)

1) Raven Branwen as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (reasoning: so instead of Ross being Betty’s father, Ross would be Bruce’s father in this AU. The reason for this change is that I really wanted to include Raven in this AU and casting her as a power-hungry general chasing her daughter around the world in order to control the Hulk felt appropriate)  

2) Vernal as Betty Ross (reasoning: to keep the General Ross-Betty Ross relationship to some extent, then Vernal as Betty made sense. Instead of being father-daughter, it’s “mother figure-daughter figure”)

4) Glynda Goodwitch as Maria Hill (reasoning: this would’ve been Winter...but I have Winter cast as Hela. So Glynda, being my second choice due to her past relationship with Ironwood, gets this role)

5) Neptune Vasilias as Jane Foster (reasoning: closest character we have for Weiss’ love interest. Don’t come at me Whiterose stans, Ruby’s already Iron Man)

6) Bartholomew Oobleck as Erik Selvig (reasoning: it’s mainly because he’s a professor)  

7) Pyrrha Nikos as Peggy Carter (reasoning: warrior, closest character we have for Jaune’s love interest)

8) Saphron Cotta-Arc as Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier (reasoning: there was literally no other character who I could think of that could fit this role, so I went with Saphron since you have the sibling relationship element with Jaune. This is obviously not a romantic-Stucky interpretation, this is more along the lines of Steve and Bucky being spiritual brothers)

9) Ozpin as Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange (reasoning: Earth’s protector, one of the guys leading the charge against Salem. Also, Ozpin looks like the kind of guy who’d be a mysterious sorcerer)

4. a headcanon that i think people won’t agree with

That Bart was very deep into the inner circle. There's just not much talk about it, and I think he was as important to Ozpin as STRQ and Glynda were. There just wasn't enough time to look at it.

My Most Important Takeaways from After The Fall

Velvet is strong enough to boost Yatsuhashi into the air. I have seen exactly no one talk about this. We should be appreciating this.

Coco is very heckin gay. I have seen many people talking about this. Good.

Fox is a snarky smartass and the only reason anyone thinks otherwise is because he prefers to speak telepathicly

Velvet and Coco went to the same combat school. Velvet knew who Coco was but she figured that Coco, being popular, probably didn't know who she was

Coco did, in fact, know exactly who Velvet was.

Making punny jokes about a faunus's animal trait is considered offensive

Ozpin only drinks hot chocolate

Yatsu is an incredibly soft giant of a boi and i love him

CFVY had something of a mentoring relationship with RWBY

Velvet allowed the bullying from other students (even though we know she could have easily beat them black and blue) because she doesn't believe in fighting prejudice with violence

Yatsu has a temper but is good at keeping control of it. He does meditation to centre himself

Velvet is a nerdy dork who makes graphs when she absolutely doesn't need to and pauses for dramatic effect

Velvet's teammates sometimes call her "V"

Coco has insecurities about being team leader

Coco is particularly protective of Velvet, keeping her out of the action when possible. Logic says this could be because Coco wants to keep her as a secret weapon. My crosshares heart says crosshares

Velvet is touchy about being left out of the action so often and has a need to prove herself

Fox makes blind jokes

Coco is confirmed to be the kind of person to choose fashion over practicality "at the drop of a beret". Woman was probably out in the desert in heels

There was a group hug and it was wonderful and v sweet, we stan a team who care about each other

Sooo ozglyn (or as I call it Second Chances) yes or no on the shipping?

First of all, I love that name! I might start to use it from now on.

Secondly, it's currently my favorite Ozpin ship (second is probably Ozbleck)!

Not only because I fell a bit out of love with Cloqwork, but also because, during my latest rwby rewatch, I got the impression that theirs is the healthiest relationship between Oz and his inner circle. I would like to think she wouldn't react too badly about Jinn's revelations, and that she may have known more than the other ozluminati did.

Of course, I could be wrong. We can't be too certain until Glynda comes back - or even IF she ever does, tho I think never having her reappear would be the only true case of the "wasted potential" claim that the fandom throws around so much.

Until then, I'd like to think that she'd be the one who immediately treats Oscar as his own person, even just because it happening FOUR times would become tiresome and predictable. But that's another thing.

Anyway tl;dr: I stan Beacon mom and dad.

as someone who admittedly has problems with taking Oz Criticism bc,, dumb monkey brain projects too much, GOD THE WHOLE ATLAS THING WITH OZ STANS IS SO DUMB. the 'cordo is just doing her job!' excuse IMMEDIATELY became invalid when she brought out a GIANT FUCKING MECH AND TRIED TO KILL THEM. like what do u think causes more panic. some airships flyin around, or a giant mech yelling out literal threats. like PLEASE yall just use your braincells

my biggest gripe with it are people saying “the kids were so egotistical thinking they’re better than the adults!!” how many adults HAVEN’T failed them at this point? i can only think of glynda and oobleck. they’re better than 90% of the adults they’ve come across through virtue of not standing on their laurels and waiting for salem to come fuck their shit up before doing anything. ozpin would’ve let the whole of the volume 2 breach come into fruition without a hitch if rwby hadn’t gotten involved because it was always “wait to see how they play” except they’d wait too damn long every time. and that’s supported by the fact ozpin was outed for stalling against salem for years.

and no, they weren’t cheering and clapping about putting argus in danger. they weren’t being egotistical. when cordo starts screaming at them that it’s their fault, do they scream back at her “no, it’s YOUR fault, bitch”? the fuck they do. they immediately look at each other and FUCKING SAY OUT LOUD “we helped cause this, we can’t leave argus without helping them against the grimm”, or something similar to that effect. if they really thought they were blameless and that this was all cordo’s fault, obviously they still would’ve stayed, but don’t you think they would’ve at the very least berated her over the comms? or call her out on her bullshit like they did so freely before they stole the airship? do you think anyone would’ve looked grateful for the fact that cordo wasn’t going to mention them in her report on the incident?

people are literally taking their cooldown in the airship as they were 100% having a fucking party over the fact they did something illegal and it bugs me so much. so what if they’re joking around to ease the tension after a massive fight where they almost died? they didn’t even insult cordo during it, they didn’t berate qrow or rub in his face that they were ‘right’ and that they’re better than him, they didn’t react with “fuck ozpin’s help, we could’ve done it ourselves!” when oscar reveals ozpin helped him land the airship. they just say, “so he was watching the whole time?”. no being disrespectful to the adults, no high horses, and the fact that they’re trying to lighten the mood is played off as “the kids think they’re hot shit and better than all the fucking adults!”

also, ruby told qrow off not because she thought the plan was fucking brilliant, it was because he refused to help point blank. if qrow had helped them, or offered any sort of other option instead of just giving up and drowning his sorrows, maybe there could’ve been a different plan. but the kids had to work with what they had because the capable huntsmen in their midst essentially gave up and retreated. how is that their fault?

so anyway

the kids accepted help from adults during the heist.

the kids didn’t scoff at the fact ozpin helped them, even with all their rightful suspicion of him

the kids didn’t wholly blame cordovin for the whole ordeal and took responsibility and risked their lives to save argus from the grimm they unwittingly drew in

so tell me, how the fuck are they selfish, egotistical and think they’re better than fully trained huntsman, just because they took initiative when two capable adults refused to help them until they had a plan and made their move? how the fuck can you call them that when they continually risk their own lives for the sake of the world, and a dumbass racist woman with too much pride and an unhealthy amount of nationalism decides she’s going to cause widespread panic without them even knowing she could do that? i don’t get it. just say you personally don’t like the main cast and go.

Noticed that Glynda is referred to as Ozpin’s assistant.

Hmm, no. She is his Deputy Headmistress, the highest executive authority at the academy aside from the headmaster himself. She assists him, of course, but that does not make her an assistant. At best, this is disrespectfully reductive. In all fairness, there is language translation involved here. However, whoever wrote this should take a lesson from E. C. Myers (author of the CFVY spinoff books) and author of her card descriptions in Amity Arena (Does anyone know who wrote these?). 

I am scrutinizing this under a fine lens but its important to remember Glynda is the only female headmistress and one of the only (NONE EVIL) women in power in the show. Especially when ‘girl power’ is a part of the brand I am naturally inclined to hold it to a higher standard. 

Just a thought, she’s my favourite character (I STAN) and I’m being very sensitive but even after I mulled this over for a few days I was still irked enough to make a post.

I'd love If Oscar didn't run into a villain but a new character within Oz's inner circle, one of his older friends like Leonardo, someone who is genuinely good and kind and hasn't stopped fighting despite the odds. Someone both to help the poor boy understand the resurrection and to offer a MUCH NEEDED different perspective to QRWBY + JNR. Maria could tell them why it isn't hopeless I guess, but it'd be awesome see someone from within delivering a "Reason you suck" speech to them.

I’d love it if he ran into an old friend! Sadly I’m not hopeful (the attack/kidnapping theory seems pretty likely, especially with Cinder and Neo closing in), but in general? Yeah, the whole team needs another perspective laid out for them. Ruby has hinted at it, but everyone was too consumed by the Apathy to listen. Maria has been blunt - your generation needs to do better, you can’t give up the fight - but she’s still a comparative stranger and the people who most need to hear that message either actively dislike her (Qrow, Yang) or met her a few hours ago (Jaune, Nora, Ren). 

It’s a sticky situation because the gang really needs someone they trust, someone they’ll listen to...but those people don’t know about Salem. It’s a bad venn diagram where “People Who Have All The Information” and “People Who Could Inspire The Gang” don’t have much overlap lol. We could get an inner circle member of Ozpin’s who’s still fighting... but would anyone listen to them? We could get an old mentor like Oobleck... but would his words still have meaning to them without all the context? 

I still think Ironwood would be a good middle ground. Granted, he can’t randomly show up because that would entirely defeat the purpose of the “how do we get to Atlas?” plot line, but later? He’d be a decent fit. Presumably he doesn’t know about Salem’s immortality, but he did stick by Ozpin even when they had MASSIVE disagreements. It might be cool to have the gang meeting someone who wasn’t/isn’t an Ozpin stan (aka Qrow), thinking that they’ll get it, you hate this guy too right? And instead Ironwood turns around with, “Disagreeing about methods doesn’t mean we disagree about the fight itself. Of course you keep going. Come up with a new plan. Move forward. You signed up for this.” 

This guy respects Glynda and listened when she told him to start showing loyalty instead of just talking about it. He announced that Weiss, in her angry passion, was the only one making sense around here. Ironwood’s a fighter. He’s also, first and foremost, a general who sees kids as soon to be soldiers (even as he cares for them). At the very least he’d expect people to keep fighting because you’re the soldiers and this is the war.

So yeah. Really hoping that if the gang hasn’t formed Team Hope by the time they get to Atlas that he’ll knock some sense into them when they arrive.

Ozpin/ma for the Ask Meme?

favorite thing about them: That he is probably the most genuinely good-natured example of the Subverted Big Good character type that I’ve ever seen. Lord Death in Soul Eater? No spoilers and no offense, but what the fuck did he think was going to happen when he Did That. Sinbad in Magi? His good intentions were eaten up entirely by his own fat fucking ego. Albus Dumbledore? Bitch. But Ozpin? His motive is entirely selfless, and he is legitimately trying his best to be a good leader, friend, and mentor. Before “The Lost Fable,” I had thought that he was atoning for some kind of terrible mistake he had made in a time of arrogance, as if he’d opened Remnant’s version of Pandora’s Box. But no, the blame is shared between Salem and Remnant’s fucking egotistical piece of shit gods, and poor Oz was caught in the middle and is just desperately trying to clean up their messes and end his curse so he can finally die and be at peace, like he wanted to before Fuck Ass God #1 dragged him out of bed death and told him maybe 2% of what he needed to know before dumping him out into a new and terrifying world with a nigh-impossible task. He’s just so much more tragic of a figure than I thought him before, and no matter how terribly flawed his methods are, I still just want to give the poor guy a hug.

least favorite thing about them: (breathes in) BOI. His motive is entirely pure, it’s just his methods that are the problem. He is trying his best, truly he is, but...he was never chosen for his ability to win a war, he was chosen very nearly at random, and so he’s been trying and failing for thousands of years. He’s ancient, he’s exhausted, he’s jaded, he's never had any real plan of action, he has no hope of relief or victory and no faith in humanity left, but as much as he wants to give up, giving up is physically not an option for him. So he’s at the end of his rope, down to just half-heartedly throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks, but when the stuff you’re throwing is human lives, that’s maybe not the best method in the world. And while his trust issues come from a valid and horrific place, it’s probably not the best move to give someone (especially several someones who have also been used, abused, and manipulated by others before) your word, and then when you’re called out on blatantly breaking it, essentially snap at them, “Well, you had no right to expect that of me anyway!” 

favorite line: “I hope they never have to.” 

brOTP: I miss his interactions with Glynda.

OTP: I still have a soft spot for Ozqrow, even after All That.

nOTP: I do hope this goes without saying, but him with any of his students. I haven’t seen any of that anywhere and I Better Fucking Not.

random headcanon: Something that’s carried over through every life he’s had is that he makes exceptionally good hot chocolate. His first daughters in particular always loved it.

unpopular opinion: Apparently, that he’s a nuanced fucking character who is neither a pure and flawless baby who can never ever be criticized because that’s mean, nor an evil and careless mastermind who is actively trying to get people killed. He’s just a normal man thrown into a godawful situation, who is trying his best but has no endgame and no solid idea what to do with the shit hand he’s been dealt, so he just keeps fucking up. Also, Qrow being Howard oddly fits if you picture him as a raging alcoholic who unintentionally neglects Ruby while she was growing up)

2) Penny Polendina as J.A.R.V.I.S. / Vision (reasoning: A..I. and android who is close friends with Ruby)

3) Pietro Polendina as Ultron (reasoning: okay, so this one is a bit of a stretch. Since Ultron is the “father” of Vision, then it made sense that Penny’s father would take this role. Just imagine that Pietro is a rogue A.I./killer robot made by Ruby and Yang in this AU)

4) Oscar Pine as Pepper Potts (reasoning: Jaune and Weiss have already been cast, so I guess this AU is a Rosegarden fic)

5) Coco Adel as James Rhodes / War Machine (reasoning: I was running low on characters. This is literally just because her main weapon is a minigun)

1) Raven Branwen as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (reasoning: so instead of Ross being Betty’s father, Ross would be Bruce’s father in this AU. 5) Neptune Vasilias as Jane Foster (reasoning: closest character we have for Weiss’ love interest. Don’t come at me Whiterose stans, Ruby’s already Iron Man)

7) Pyrrha Nikos as Peggy Carter (reasoning: warrior, closest character we have for Jaune’s love interest)

This is obviously not a romantic-Stucky interpretation, this is more along the lines of Steve and Bucky being spiritual brothers) 

9) Ozpin as Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange (reasoning: Earth’s protector, one of the guys leading the charge against Salem. Also, Ozpin looks like the kind of guy who’d be a mysterious sorcerer)

10) Marcus Black as Ego the Living Planet (reasoning: Mercury’s estranged, biological father)
