I once got an anonymous ask saying that I was being "transphobic" and "discriminatory" towards nonbinary people because I referred to my nb oc with masculine pronouns. He doesn't see himself as either a boy or girl, but he likes how masc pronouns sound. The user said that, and I quote, "nb only use they/them and masc and femme pronouns are erasing their identity!"

I have several friends that identify as nb and still exclusively refer to themselves with masc and/or femme pronouns. Several of them don't like using they/them at all.

So apparently by their logic, if a nonbinary person is referred to as ANYTHING other than "they/them", you're transphobic and erasing their identity!

And that anon isn't the only person I've seen with similar sentiments. So this literally might be something as simple as "this nonbinary character that goes by "they/she" got called a "she" in Chapter 2 so this story is transphobic!"

It's kinda sad that that mindset is so common. :/

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think that maybe the author was being confusing about the character's identity or maybe they actually WERE being discriminatory, but idk with the track record of the internet I just feel like it's likely "GRRR NB CAN'T EVER USE MASC OR FEMME PRONOUNS!!!!"

I really liked your pink Mourn Watcher girl but when I look for more stuff about her on your blog I keep finding other Rooks? It's a little confusing because usually people have one main character and ship on their blog

Yeah, sorry, I honestly really admire people who have one (1) OC that they consistently make content for, because I keep coming up with new ones (I even downloaded a mod that lets you have 99 Rooks on PC instead of 10). At one point, I actually attempted to tag all of my OCs but quickly gave up because the tag search was not returning all posts that I clearly remembered putting in there. I guess you will just have to bear with me, or send me asks if you are interested in a specific OC!

erecia (requiem for the monochrome) -> straight-lesbian. she’s butch & troibemme (nb in this universe) but would consider herself bigender she/he in our terminology and fully considers herself both a man and a woman at the same time. she would honestly prefer the label straight-lesbian more than sapphic bc she’s not a woman all the time and that speaks to her experience more than anything.

narcissus spokes (prim & provocative) -> aro-graysexual (sex and romance positive). it’s something she comes to discover throughout her narrative. she doesn’t really experience or feel romance or desire for sex in a traditional way; she desires being wanted so she wants those things for herself but she doesn’t experience the actual attraction herself. she didn’t realize it bc on paper before her divorce, she didn’t have to question any of it—being with myrtus and being casually intimate but never hot and heavy seriously never bothered her. once he leaves though, through meeting new friends (i’m cooking) and generally going through it grants her new perspective.

carlos carvalho (jenna the reaper / jenna the witch king) -> aroace (sex/romance repulsed). in a qpr and is a caretaker of jenna - though when i say they're in a qpr its a very unspoken thing between them. like, jenna's whole goal is to become a witch and then make carlos her familiar so they're never separated, so i think that's very explicit about what they are to each other pff.

n blackburn (dead rites) -> the way that n barely registers his sexuality bc he's married to his work LMAOOOO. he'd say that he's pan, it really has more to do with the mental connection than physical attraction for him so anything is fair game (but again... married to his work actually)

lil rant in coming . kinda prompted by the event . talking about gender & the fandom & ..basically a big ramble.

the story message is so darn cute. i love that amaya can tell young people that a form of love is self love & being true to oneself & your preferences. because amaya wasn't always out as NB. in 'my verse / my none tumblr wol verse / twt verse??' they came out during shb.

cause not all queer stories start with a teen figuring this out. some people are older. but people constantly shame older queer for coming out late... personally I wanted amaya's story to be one where, when they learn to forgive themself, to be themself, they also truly stand to themself. & for them, that journey takes up to shb. that journey takes them until they are 30. ( I am a not fully out yet NB person myself & I may never really come out irl because of how german works as a language & wanting to avoid troubles ).

& dunno. the fandom sometimes does not make it easy. like i know i started writing amaya as a woman but ya know. self discovery yadda yadda. I do write amaya as sb who has been living as NB since their younger years bcs I do not trust people to be able to realize why amaya may use she/her pre-shb & then they/them.

but the amount of times ppl go "well you know amaya is still kinda a she" why. cause they have a bigger chest? cause sometimes they wear a dress? cause they do not fit a stereotype of how all NB people must be androgynous? I am sorry they do not fit into this media & fandom pushed idea of how NB people must be. People really want NB people to be like a third gender when this is exactly what we are not. & also ofc the eternal dispute of "amaya appears straight" cause some of their ship are with men. sorry to say, but part of it is.... if we talk about xiv canon women, as much as i love them - they all tend to fall under a same-ish archertype. we have way more diverse masc presenting characters where it is clear the devs put more love & care into them.

moen & ysayl.e were killed off for no good reason. shtola never got the same kinda development the male scions got ( nah imma say it, if shtola had been a guy the whole lifestream thing & aether sight would have had its own arc. alas it is 'haha funny we nearly saw her naked'). the moment the devs remembered minf.ilia is a really interesting character they got so scared they yeeted her off for over an expac only to have her be dead once we reunite. yotsu.yu died too. i really like zero but i am trying so hard to not be too attached bcs the game slapped she/her on 'em so all i see is a deathflag.

i am sorry then that people feel more inclined to ship their characters with the guys then. the saving grace in all of this are the rper here tbh who grab these characters & give them so much more life ( just as an example, @astherea 's shtola is just brilliant )

But ofc you can see that it's an unattainable goal to try to become like Miguel. No matter how hard she tries theres no way she can catch up to him, he got everything she wants and even his dad is the boss of alchemax (in the comic, which I also use for this universe.) Meta wise it's also an allegory for my gender envy (?) trans??

When I see ppl like Miguel, there's a sense of admiration but there's also the feeling of enviousness and disappointment that follow. I have this kind of motif in a lot of my plots for my ocs too bc its smth i struggle w, whether meta or like, in-lore. (the what I could be vs what I’m given)

I hate being reminded that "No, actually you cant become anything you want. You can only become the best version of yourself." And idek whats the best version of ms. That is the essence of Hoạ. The desire to become something but you don’t really know what that is.

ince i'm quite fluid (idk if im nb or genderfluid tbh maybe both) and i like fluctuating between my identities, its easy when i feel femme bc i already look and am femme, but when i need to be more masc its such a struggle and you also cant just magically erase the 20+yrs of existing as a girl, so yknow, its frustrating. Hoạ Fontaine as Spiderwasp and Wasp spider (future disguise)!

OKAY so...

Very basic summary of her backstory for universe 742!

Fontaine is an aspiring etymologist/geneticist at Alchemax. She's a bit younger than him and got into the corporate later than Miguel so hes kinda her colleague and mentor figure. However, during a collaborative project on recreating Spiderman (like in the comic), she somehow messed things up and got kicked out of Alchemax.

All of her researches belong to Alchemax so she wasnt allowed to take them due to rights/legal issues. She also lost her Babylon apartment (from alchemax).

Despondent, she looked to Miguel for support only to be met with silence. She tried to take some of her researches with her but only manage to get her hands on some notes. She fell into depression and just kinda live day by day doing random jobs and watching tv.

After a while seeing the resurgent of Spiderman and how much public reception he has, she grew angry and jealous of this Spiderman, because this could've been the result of her work too.

Motivated, she got back to the drawing board and began her own research and after a long while, managed to inject a substance that changes her DNAs to half of a wasp's. Fontaine started going after spiderman to vent her anger.

One day when she sneaks into alchemax as Spiderwasp to get more of her researches, spiderman caught her.

Upon confrontation and putting previous evidence together she realized its Miguel. This sent her spiraling.

Fontaine continues to be an antagonist until she meets spot hijacking Alchemax, and manages to steal a watch from another Spiderman, and got to 928b dimension (movie spider tower). She started disguising and blending in with the spider people there to find out more about things, subsequentially her involvement with the Web of Life and destiny, making new connections, questioning her life purpose, talking to Spot and other Spiderpeople. Thered be a lot of existential crisis and sneaking around.

From then on, it's possible that this universe will branch out to 4 different branches/directions/alt universes however you call it!

Ok so I want to first say I totally understand where you’re coming from-there is undeniably racial fetishizing (and fetishizing in gen) in fandom especially with mlm shipping dynamics (I am mlm btw but I digress), you can see it with peoples ocs or how they interpret certain characters so again I do agree that said I do think Star and Julio are an exception due to the fact that Julio really is a masculine gay man and makes a point to avoid being seen as an effeminate gay man like that is the crux of his character is his relationship to masculinity and his sexuality-he’s literally leather gay adjacent 😭 and honestly if Marvel wasn’t so fatphobic you just know he’d be a bear, whilst with Star he really was gnc and effeminate up until xfi (sm jokes about him wearing makeup in xforce 😭) (and there was still stereotypical femme gay jokes about him in xfi tbh) and rn he’s somewhat gnc again. Given the coding of his character there is a real argument to make for nb/Trans Star in canon (along with transmasc Julio tbh). Also Star being white in comics is a separate conversation because tbh he shouldn’t be 😭. So again whilst I totally understand and respect where you’re coming from with this Julio really is canonically a masc gay man-purposely so (and to a fault tbh)-and Star is a gnc/femme bi man when he’s allowed to be (and still mocked for being one regardless) I know my answer isn’t phrased perf but it’s the best I can do rn. Ghost OC Week: Part 1

April 3rd - Introductions - Who is this character? What do they look like? What inspired you to make them?

Hello everyone, I'm Dash! 

Throughout this week I'll be telling you a little bit about myself I guess. I'll try to keep it as short as I can, but my story is kinda long and I bit crazy so bear with me. 

As you can see from my picture, I'm a male and clearly ghoul. In fact, it turns out that I'm both a quintessence ghoul and a fire ghoul. Yeah, mom had a thing for fiesty fire boys and I guess I inherited that. I suppose that's how I got involved with Dewdrop in the beginning, but…that's a story for later. 😉

But anyway, I'm 5'10"..not short but my man Swiss is still taller than me (I'll get into our relationship later.) 

My white hair is something that I inherited from how I was summoned to earth. Let's just say, some old dumbass in the clergy wanted a servant but he was too stupid to do a summoning ritual properly so my soul ended up occupying his body. Thank Satan the rituals usually let me keep my own looks when we are summoned, but because he was still technically alive when it happened, I ended up keeping his white as fuck hair. But, it's whatever..I'm still gorgeous.

Speaking of me being gorgeous, as you can also see, I have a fairly nice build, I exercise by running a lot so it keeps me pretty fit. (Riding my man pretty much every day also helps too..😏)

My eyes are a pretty purple, but apparently they have been known to turn weird colors when I use my powers. I've been told either completely white or black depending on what powers I use. 

Right now, I'm only proficient at using my quintessence powers which generally just means I can heal people of minor sicknesses and injuries.  I don't do it that often though because it makes me pretty weak. I've healed more serious stuff, but it damn near killed me so I generally don't risk doing that unless there is dire need. My fire powers are weak as shit and I've only really sprouted some tiny flames from my ears or burned someone when my skin got too hot. (That's also another story for another time. 😉)

To finish up some last bits, I play guitar and work for the Ghost band project as Dew's guitar tech. I'll eventually start my own clergy band, but it's been kinda slow going unfortunately. 

So.. anyway, that's me, I condensed a little but I'll go into more later. See you soon my lovelies!

So, I basically created Dash for a roleplay discord server and, tbh..I wasn't that attached to him at first. He was just a reason for me to be able to hang out with my friends, but.. fairly quickly, he became SO much more. I ended up putting so many of my own experiences and personality into him that he ended up becoming somewhat of a self insert. And then..somehow, he almost became an extension of who I was..and if I was honest with myself, he was what I wanted to be. 

And then, something crazy happened that I never expected. Not only did I realize that I wanted to be Dash in terms of who he was as a person (because he's cool as fuck), I wanted to be him in terms of the gender he had that I didn't. 

I now know that this has apparently happened to trans/NB people in the past, but I kinda never imagined that creating him would make me realize that I wasn't meant to be in the gender I have now. Maybe I am a little because I still like certain femme things, but being more male was definitely something I never expected to want until Dash. And for that reason, he will always be my baby boy that I will cherish forever! ❤️

Yknow maybe I'm reading to much into this but I've noticed in a lot of your recent aus (namely pantheon and the mer! Lo au) Virgil has really long hair or a veil that mimics it, is there a reason for that or is it just a coincidence?

Ehhhh I can say it wasn't specifically any conscious decision?? (To be fair tho i havent made a new au in a short while so my time perception of which aus are newer than others is super skewed at this point lol)

But ehhhh the worlds entwined au(aka the analogical mer!Logan au w/ veiled Virgil) was actually started from a piece I drew and posted in july of 2020 so its not that its recent its just that ive touched on posting some content for it recently

As for generally tho, idk. I like veils, I like drawing males/nbs with ridiculously long hair and/or femme attire because i like drawing long flowing hair/clothes but havent made a habit of making fleshed out female characters in, what, over 6 years? (Nothing against female characters or ocs obvi and i do draw women on occassion, but i dont make or draw female ocs personally because I just. Don't feel comfortable doing so? Idk. The fact that im trans has probably got something to do with it, maybe. I know I could do it and do so with ease I just, chose not to because it isnt personal to me.)

So, the pantheon was inspired by an amazing fellow fic writer and creator's au and the way thst mine developed meant i could have an excuse to draw Virgil that way and explore it because I find it fun and its low-key some gender envy we'll never have the comfort of pulling off due to the hell-high amounts of gender disphoria that come with seeing our body in a dress, long hair, rounded-baby face, and our visible chest.(because we cannot bind for long, and it doesn't hide it well anyway)

Make with that what you will, but yeah. Theres no specific reason its been Virgil either, I think that part is just coincidence because Virgils one of my top favorites.(i didn't go through the hell of hand making his jacket for nothing damn it xD)

Dhekdnsken this may be odd but i need a bit of advice. I have a lesbian oc and she's very fashionable but the problem is I'm an nb mess that is Bad At Clothing. What are some outfits/specific things that scream "I LOVE GIRLS"?

Button up shirts, obnoxiously patterned if u can, Hawaiian shirts also ofc, long sleeved but also short sleeved! Do not be afraid of the short sleeved button up shirt! This with like a very thicc wide belt and a good pair of boots. Or if you want to go more barbecue dad, slap a pair of cargo shorts on there, or you can go for the lesbian f-boy look which involves a tank top (thick shoulder straps and wide arm holes) and a snapback.

Throw a flannel and some old jeans on there for a lumberjack lesbian, or you can make it a little preppier, a little more dapper, by convincing the button up with a pair of slacks and dress shoes. A waistcoat would be peak on that, I think.

For more femme looks I’m not as much an expert on, because usually when I see a femme I’m like “wow pretty” ans my brain shuts off, but the button ups stay true. Now, though, I would unbutton them a few buttons so you might see a bit of lace underneath. Maybe a pencil skirt. Really gaudy jewelry would be good I think, or almost any formal wear that would normally make them a little overdressed for a casual setting, but that’s good. That’s what you want. Or, hell. Put em in a ball gown. Sparkly Cinderella gown on the subway who cares. Or put her in anything you think Barbie would wear, and then scale it up a bit

Or, you know. You could just make them goth jfhdnfkfjf

Or give them a shirt that says “I love girls!” On it 🤷‍♀️

buddy… my pal…. you have opened a WORM HOLE bc i will never shut up about them all but here’s the version that’s as short as i could make it:

Oliver (Mena Massoud) is the main perspective character and he is beautiful and kind and also my son. He has anxiety and cares about his friends so deeply and he wants to do good in the world and he insists on going on The Quest even tho it will be dangerous and Cord wants him to stay home but like fuck he’s gonna let his friend go on a dangerous quest without him!! like fuck!!! Eventually, through a series of events i have no yet pinned down, he meets and falls in love with Princess Adina (Danielle Brooks), who loves math and good food and has a penchant for taking on too much responsibility bc they are both victims of Caring Too Much Disease and it’s incurable.

Cord (who, in my head, is kind of like Richard Armitage and Raul Esparza smashed together so that’s why they’re both in the board but tbh neither of them actually fits the image in my head) has just… So Much PTSD. He is a good good person and is also my nonbinary father. He’s been through so much?? but slowly he is healing????? he would do anything for people he cares about and has zero self-preservation. His parents (Katrina Kaif and Liam Garrigan) make me wanna commit murder on people who don’t even actually exist and who are also already long dead in canon.

Cord’s husband is Irik (Idris Elba as Heimdall is basically 98% of Irik’s Look™ ) and he is also my literal actual father. This baby can fit so much dad energy in him. He is SO smart and SO functional and SO sexy and even though he also has been through So Much, he actually lets people help him when he needs it and that allows him to help other people. I cannot stress how much of a dad he is and also he is so incredibly in love with Cord even though he is still very hurt that Cord kinda sorta definitely faked his death and disappeared after they were in a war.

Sera (Danai Gurira), Hela (whomst i don’t have a faceclaim for), Ty (Chella Man), Lila (Indiya Moore), and Titania (Anjali Ameer) are Cord and Oliver’s friends who are going on the journey with them because they too suffer from Caring Too Much Disease. Sera is the lesbian mom-friend, Hela is a nb brawler with ADHD, Ty is a nb deaf autistic construction worker who makes terrible kosher wine in their spare time, Titania is a pickpocketing trans woman with dna that is 90% mischief, and Lila is a trans femme scribe who recites romance novels from memory to keep everyone from getting too bored while they travel. There is also Ekke (Ranveer Singh) who starts out as Lawful Evil Lite and ends up with a redemption arc that makes me emotional just thinking about it. And there is Mech (Lee Pace) whomst is a genius chaotic neutral engineer and the story has evolved so much that i’m not sure what i’m actually gonna do with him now that his main plot point has disappeared bc i changed so much around, but he Definitely Exists and i also love him.

And then there’s the pieces de resistance, King Markus (Hrithik Roshan) and Queen Emmalina (Michelle Forbes) who are kind of also my parents but also Emmalina is my milf wife so like take that for what you will. Markus is so Good and Kind and he is TRYING SO HARD to make the world a better place even though the court blocks him at every attempt and he loves his daughters and his wife so so much. Emmalina is Cord’s older sister and she is Sharp and she is Smart and she is Ambitious and when i think about her too much i start crying.

That was probably way more than you wanted to know but legit all you gotta say is “can you tell me about” and i black out from loving my OCs.
