QUESTION OF THE DAY #6: Send me your most unpopular theatre opinion. Something that might make someone want to fight you. Please don’t be offensive (racist, misogynistic, etc.), but other than that…go as hard as you want. Spill all the tea.

MY ANSWERS: 1) The Pretty Woman score fucking slaps idek, 2) Come From Away (or even Bandstand...) should’ve won the 2017 Best Musical Tony, 3) I prefer the West End Heathers cast album to Off Broadway, 4) Shows shouldn’t sweep the Tonys just because they’re Best Musical worthy...shows that aren’t too critically acclaimed but have really impressive elements should get recognition too.

SUMMARY: Out of 37 responses: 5 were about Dear Evan Hansen, 3 were about Hamilton specifically, 2 were about: Rent, ALW, Wicked, In The Heights, Be More Chill, etc. etc....if your favorite musical is one of these and you get easily offended i wouldn’t read these.

NOTE: I agree with some of these, I highly disagree with others. I do not endorse any of the things that were said, I am simply sharing them with you all. These were what was sent to me. The songs taken out of context are significantly more powerful than when placed in the context of the show, which gives us exactly zero evidence of Evan's work to improve and also never resolves Evan's u healthy goals in the first place.

It was good? but also sucked a lot. I had a lot of issues with my mental health and struggled for a long while with something. I was bullied and stuff at home wasnt always that great. And i got outed so that was fun. Other than that I enjoyed swimming competitively and I got into art

I never got to know my grandfather on my moms side bc he passed away a few months before i was born and I sort of knew my grandmother but she lived far away and passed away 10 years ago. I usually see my gramma on my dads side the most and I try to visit often and help her out with stuff and I love her even though she can be a bit... racist and shit.. and I sometimes see my grandpa and step grandma but they can be strict about weird shit and always ask a lot of uncomfortable questions

I dont really do much on my birthdays? Ive had a lot of nice birthdays and it usually involves going out to dinner or having a nice dinner at home and having birthday cake and playing games like jenga or yahtzee.

Dmitri looked up, masking his surprise and holding his tongue.

Dr. Montag looked over, quieting the running water and placing the dish was he was cleaning down, “Really?” he said, brushing his hands, “You got any plans?” he asked, Dmitri.

“Oh we usually do something small,” His aunt interjected, “But seeing as he’s my father’s favorite grandchild,” Only grandchild, “He’s is flying from Paris to join us. And he was never a man of modesty so I’ve been thinking about doing something special for the occasion.”

Dmitri fought the smile creeping on his face, ducking his head. He shouldn’t be surprised that she remembered after all if his grandfather was visiting. It’s how he got his phone, laptop, his car.

It’s probably why she puts up with him, to begin with. Cause it wasn’t guilt.

“--We should get your hair cut,” She continued, and Dmitri snapped out of his thoughts, “Maybe invite Diana--he’d like her,” she murmured.

“Diana and I a-” He closed his mouth, and his aunt’s eyes shot over.

“You broke up?” She narrowed her eyes, examining her nails, “Huh, makes sense seeing as...” she gestured at him vaguely, “So who have you been sneaking around with?”

“I’m not sneaking around with anyone,” Dmitri said, meeting her gaze. And technically he was right, it’s not sneaking if she just hasn’t been asking. And he’s given up on telling.

Dr. Montag’s eyebrows knitted together confused,” Well that isn’t true,”

Dmitri’s eyes went wide, stomach sinking.

His Aunt’s grin spread, “Oh really?”

longpost lol i quit

LOL resigned. anyway heres some more wild bullshit that happened on my official first and last day

fucking vauged their way around the specifics of the job which was to go stand in front of a. walgreens. and try to sell charity to the poor people walking past by saying we got to locations or confrences

i got SO fucking sunburned NO ONE TOLD ME i have mad mask tan i look like i have anime blush

in the morning i walk in to music that is SO loud. it is 9 am i have been up for 5 and a half hours.

i am led into the Very Loud Room (called the Atmosphere Room) where there is music and random bursts of call and repeat shouting and am introduced to Robert, my teacher and fellow associate. note: it is very loud. my audio processing disorder says nope and i cant understand half the words spoken to me at all times.

there are at least 25 people in this rather small room. there is no social distancing. at least a quarter of the people weren’t wearing masks including the ceo. who does he think he is.

the ceo gathers everyone into a big circle(by shouting of course) and there is a call and repeat. at least 3/4ths of the people respond. i plead for my soul with the 1/4th that don’t.

there are 3 women who look like 3 very different kind of lesbians in the room. i try desperately to make eye contact. denied. note: one of these folk had puka shells in their dreads, literally so cool. i had awkwardly waved at them, gayly, the day before maybe thats why. maybe they were too far gone.

after the shouting is done there is... more shouting!

people are called out and some sales numbers (I think this was one of the times I genuinely could not understand anything that was being said) and then they’d run around the room giving everyone a high five. again, there is no social distancing. at least five names are called.

i am trying to avoid these high fives. two of them reach out to get me like this is goddamn midsommar

one of the managers (note: the position i was technically in training to be) gives a speech. he revolves it around architecture because his grandfather designed the louve or whatever. obviously this is just an excuse to bring up that fact.

after the atmosphere room we go to the site. walgreens. admittedly a walgreens in a bougie part of the city but. walgreens. oh ok we’ll set up shop inside, i think, naively.

go to the bathroom to change into a care international t-shirt they gave me. at least it was for a good cause.

we are not inside we are outside. robert is waiting outside my car, i drove, to get the small table and his stuff from the back.

robert got me pringles. robert is cool. maybe too friendly. i start to recognize the pitch tips he gives me pop up while he makes conversation. with me.

we spend the next 8 hours standing up. bothering people about signing up for a monthly donation to charity. no cash no single donations, has to be monthly. but robert won’t come out and say that even when they ask

robert sticks to his script every time. literally he said the same things. the same jokes with everyone even if it wasn’t landing. there was this old dude who was just so unamused by his performance it was a sight.

i occasionally pop in and say hi when people walk up and nervously describe care international to these people before i run out of this to say and swing it back to robert. he directly calls out that its my first day, which i appreciate, and then high fives me, which i do not appreciate

cunts. i wasn’t done

i spend most of 3-6 trying to shield my eyes from the sun. it is so bright there was not a cloud in the sky today. a real beautiful day. i saw so many little butterflies and one big butterfly. the yellow and black one from ac. you know.

robert first suggests we leave after i (he) makes 2 sales. i am enthusiastic. ceo says no do 10 pitches so i can get experience. i, already aware i’m quitting, am despondent.

when we finally finish i am barely handling it. i have been up for 15 hours. my math might be wrong. i might've broken some dominos pens. im fine.

i drive us back. we do a overview of the day, i am forgetting many things bc i am thinking about the **** i will be buying afterwards and deciding how to word my resignation.

i listen to robert and the ceo talk about the things we’ll be doing in the following days. like on saturday, the 6th day of the week which i would be working. all day. i nod along.

i walk out the door. robert high fives me again. dude. i get in my gay mid sized subaru and never look back.

so something (refer to the song he said suits myday) happened with jae recently and ive seen fans trying to defend him by @ing him and saying that they love him which is fine - great even! but what i dont approve is how everyone’s basically forgotten about the whole matter because they had concerts so instead of @-ing him and asking him to explain himself, they tell him what a great concert it was which is also great bc their concerts are honestly amazing. basically my pet peeve is when ppl dismiss the problematic action of some people just bc they like them.

another thing is that there were some fans who started guilting others for wanting to drop day6 completely because of what jae did and in my opinion i think it is totally cool to want to drop a group if they did smth bad like??? its ur life???? u can choose who you want to like. what is not cool is pulling out all the good things the person has ever done in their entire life and try to remind others about the positive sides of the person. yes. they’re an encouraging person, etc. but that does not cancel out the bad things they’ve done until they explain/apologise. what is infuriating is just the manner some people took it?? they literally went ahead and tweeted shit like “would your parents drop you if you did smth wrong?” and “you’re seriously gonna drop someone whos been nothing been nice because of one incident?” yes. people will and you dont have any fucking right to stop them? so dont go pulling out receipts.

another thing. its also okay to want to stan the whole group even if someone has done smth problematic. like? to me youre cool if youre able to see and acknowledge the bad shit someone has done and still stand by their side while educating them at the same time its nice to have faith in your idols. however, i wont say much when your idols dont respond and/or respond in a way that shows absolutely no remorse. its cool if you want to support them too, despite that.

tldr; dont fucking excuse someone’s behaviour/action just because youre so far up their fucking ass. dont pull out shit from before either, be it good or bad. and lastly, its okay to want to drop/continue supporting them, its your life.

i just wanted to talk about this tbh,, it was nice to see a few mydays trying to urge jae to explain the whole situation but seeing as he still hasnt and couldve it really irks me :-/

Ready, Set, Go (Pt. 2 of AFTR)

Alright so here’s the requested (and promised) sequel/continuation of A Flight to Remember. I know my ship list mentions that I wouldn’t do multi-part stuff (mostly bc idk how to link them haha) but I’ll put this under the AFTR tag too so it shouldn’t be hard to find. There will be a part 3. Without further ado, here you are!

Setting: Unnamed smallish U.S. city from the first part of this

Background: Aight so y'all can probably already tell that you can get most of the bg to this in the first part so probably check that out before you read this one. Didn’t mention this in the first part, but reader is probably 19 or 20, so not at the legal drinking age in America sorry. Also referenced but not mentioned in the original, but this is set in a timeline starting on a Wednesday and the dinner is Thursday (idk why it’s just what I went with)

You got home no more than ten minutes after leaving what you were now calling the “Holland Crew.” You were also already planning what you would wear and do tomorrow night for dinner.

The first person you called was your friend to let her know why the text you sent her from the airport was incomplete. You explained how you met the boys but chose to leave out the whole “going to dinner at your favorite casual restaurant tomorrow night with your all time celebrity crush” thing. You knew that if you told her, she would tell others who lived in your town who would probably show up at the restaurant just for a photo op, and you knew that would be a bad experience for everyone.

“Omg!! Y/n! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“Seriously? I left the airport ten minutes ago! What more do you want?”

You also felt the need to call your parents about it, since they too were out of town, leaving you home alone until Sunday. It was only right that they knew you would be hanging with technical strangers, and that these “strangers” were incredibly famous.

Just as you expected, your mother worried about you going out with 3 young British men while your dad congratulated you for making a Hollywood hottie swoon over you.

Once finishing your conversations, you hopped into the shower to get the grimy feeling of traveling off your body and to wash the hair that you could feel getting more oily by the minute under your hat.

After your long, much needed, shower, you slowly dressed and decided to let your hair air dry. You figured that being home alone had its perks, and this was one of them. Air drying your hair was a daunting task that often took at least an hour, but you knew you wanted to straighten your hair again tomorrow and blow drying it would put your hair under too much stress.

The hour it took for your hair to dry consisted of dancing around your house excitedly once the fact that you had met, and were going to dinner with, Tom Holland and his little crew had set in. Towards the end of that hour, you saw a notification from an unknown number show up on your phone.

“Hey, y/n! It’s Harrison (aka Haz, for future reference) and I just wanted to discuss tomorrow night with you some more. Tom can’t stop talking about you ;) P.S. I got your number from his phone, so don’t be weirded out by this when you see it.”

You smiled to yourself as you added Haz to your contacts list. It wasn’t every day you got to say you had the phone numbers of two well-known actors, not that you’d be sharing them anytime soon, though. You sat down on the couch to reply to Harrison, detailing the next night’s events and asking Harrison for his opinion on how you should dress.

“Come on man! It’s not every day you get the cute boy’s wingman/bff on your side!! You know his type!”

“Y/n, if he truly likes someone, he has absolutely no care whether she’s in old sweats or a cocktail dress. Though he does like a little bit of leg…”

With that, you decided on the navy floral halter dress you had been saving to wear for a date. It wasn’t anything skimpy, only hitting just above the knees, but it was sleeveless and flowed out a little at the bottom, which complimented your body well. You hung the dress up and set below it a pair of flat, white sandals that paired well with the look. You weren’t one for heels, mostly because you enjoyed the freedom of movement without them, but also because there was many a time where you had humiliated yourself in them.

You turned in early that night, hoping that a full night’s rest would leave you glowing the next day.

You awoke at 8:34 a.m. on Thursday and rolled out of bed, heading straight for the bathroom as always. Once out, you checked your phone for new messages. There were at least 20, all from only 3 friends. You rolled your eyes and shook your head, your friend you had called yesterday had obviously let these 3 girls know, and they couldn’t believe what they had heard.

“OMG!! Y/N! WHY DIDNT YOU CALL ME??? I THOUGHT I WAS YOUR BFF?”

“GIRL. You met TOM HOLLAND?? AND DIDNT TELL ME?!?”

“Omg y/f/n just told me you met Tom Holland and I swear to God if she was lyin…”

You rolled your eyes and replied to each about how yesterday was tiring and all you wanted to do was come home and sleep. They definitely couldn’t know about tonight. One invited you to dinner tonight to tell them all about yesterday, so you covered, saying how your parents were gone and wanted you to clean up the house while you were home alone, and you would need to catch up on work stuff before Monday rolled around. You hated lying to your friends, even if some of what you said was true. (Your parents had been serious about cleaning up the house)

You checked the clock, which read 8:58.

T minus 10 hours until you saw the boys again, so obviously you needed to start getting ready.

You started by doing your hair, a task that also took quite a bit of time. You turned on the TV for background noise as you began straightening your hair in layers. At the half-way point, you took a break to toast yourself a bagel and grab a sparkling water for breakfast. Once finishing on your hair, you went to work cleaning up the living room for your parents. By the time you were done, it was almost 11:00. Only 8 hours left to prepare for the night.

You spent those 8 hours overthinking everything, from what you would say to how early you would show up to the restaurant to the underwear you were planning on wearing beneath your dress.

At 4:00, you touched up your hair and swiped on some mascara and a little bit of foundation. You were never one to wear makeup, and most of the time you opted to just not wear it. Even though the boys had seen you 100% makeup-less yesterday, it still felt nice to do yourself up just a little bit to raise your spirits.

You dressed yourself at 5:45, finally deciding on that one strapless bra and those black underwear for a confidence boost. You waited until 6:30 to strap on your sandals, seeing as you wouldn’t need to leave the house until 6:40 and you honestly preferred being barefoot above anything else.

You gave yourself another once-over in the mirror before checking your little cross-body purse to make sure you had your wallet, phone, keys, and anything else you might need for an emergency. After that, you were off to the restaurant, your mind buzzing and left foot tapping against the floorboard as you tried to keep your right root from flooring the pedal out of anxiousness.

You sat in your car and gave one last deep breath once you had pulled into the parking lot, heart racing faster than you could ever remember before. It wasn’t just the fact that you were meeting your celebrity crush and his equally amazing pals for dinner tonight that got you; it was the fact that you hadn’t been on a date in quite a while and you knew you were probably just a little rusty.

With that thought, you pushed open the door, and headed off towards the front of the building, ready to dive into what would hopefully be the best night of your life.

A/N: Haha wow am I the worst or what? I know this totally didn’t even feature Tom but don’t worry, the next part will. I decided to make this more than a two-shot like I had planned because I just had too many ideas to cram it into two parts. I hope to get the next (and maybe final??) part out within the coming week, but we shall see. Tbh I’ll probably end up doing what I did with this one and write the first 3 words tonight after I post and then not finish until 9 pm next Sunday wHOoPs.

that time Caitriona Balfe is the nicest human ever

I need to preface this by saying: I think ECCC was a bit under-prepared and overwhelmed by how many Outlander fans were there today. The lines were INSANE. I waited, each time I met Sam and Cait, no less than 45 minutes and over an hour for the autographing. and by the time we had made it to the hotel after the panel, to attempt the first autograph session, it was already filled up. at like 12:15. the panel ended at noon so like....HARDCORE. I am not so hardcore. I left and came back hahahaha

THIS GOT REALLY LONG IM SORRY

so the first one I did was the joint photo op. the waiting on line part is dull you don’t care about that. except there was a little boy on a different line while I was waiting who just like lay down on the floor and I felt for him bc same. anyway. it happened SO fast that I like don’t remember much. I remember walking up to them like holding my sleeves, which I do when I’m nervous, and they said hi and I said, “I’m SO nervous!” and Cait goes “awww, don’t be nervous!” and then I was in between them and both their hands were on me and they’re SO TALL and we’re taking a fucking picture???? and then I think Cait said thank you and I turned and said thank you and Sam didn’t say anything lol and I walked out and could NOT stop shaking. and then I went and got my pic (and also collapsed and gave @givemethewest a hug and told her I needed to sit down I was A MESS) and literally didn’t look at the picture. like all the way down the escalators, all the way to meet my friend, did not look. and then I literally bowling balled myself into my friend/my jacket & bag HEAD FIRST and laid flat on my stomach on the floor like screaming into my coat for 10 minutes and some poor girl who had become friends with my friend was laughing at me and also judging me hardcore and I was just like HI IM JULIA NICE TO MEET YOU from the floor.

and then I had to get off the floor to get back on line to get a solo pic w Cait, which I had bought literally 2 hours prior. and we get on the line and we’re the very last ones so I just lie back down on the ground. and also take a pic of my pic (which I’d finally looked at) and tweet about it obviously but also lie on the ground because SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO LIE ON THE GROUND OK. anyway, more waiting on line blah blah blah. get to the front of Cait’s line this time and she is SUCH A GODDESS I CAN’T EVEN TELL YOU. she was SO kind and idk if she recognized me or not but she like hit her thighs when she saw me and bent down a bit and was like “hi!! nice to meet you!!!” and I was just like hi! again. and then ONCE AGAIN Cait’s arm was around me and I was trying not to combust and I also had my arm around her and her shirt was really soft and she’s TEENY and on my way out I fucking threw up metaphorically on her and said something along the lines of, “thank you for everything you do I love you so much” and I think she gave me a sweet look and said thanks???? I think I also blacked out so I don’t really know what the fuck happened. but my picture with her is WONKY (my eyes wtf is wrong with my eyes) so I’m just gonna cut Sam out of the first one and say that’s my pic w Cait

and THEN I think I waited over an hour for the autograph thing bc we were in the spillover line and by this point I was feeling like an 85 year old woman. like everything in my body hurt, I hadn’t really eaten all day and I was exhausted so waiting was the last thing I wanted to do. but WORTH IT. I have to say. Once we got like...in the room where the autographs were I could not stop watching Cait. That gif of that guy with hearts popping out of his eyes was me the entire time. there’s just something so mesmerizing about her???? like I get why Sam stares at her all the time. I get it. as we were waiting though some lady asked if anyone was there for Sam only and NOBODY stepped forward. and I cackled. Everyone wanted to meet Caitrionaaaaa!

so anyway I get to the front and I’m one of the only ones who is doing an autograph from both of them so even though Cait is technically first the lady sends me to Sam, whose line is empty lol so I go over and I’m fucking NERVOUS and I give his like handler dude the Emmy magazine and Sam’s too busy talking about opening a bottle of whisky and subtly but not so subtly looking over at Cait to notice me for a solid like 30 seconds but then he does and he signs my magazine and I give him this card I got for both of them and jesus christ the details are really embarrassing I will never tell but it’s REALLY shippery and it’s from me, Jess and Lauren, which I tell him (no idea if he connected who we were) and he goes to open it and I’m just like NO DON’T and he makes this face at me 😏 and tries to open it again and I’m just like nooo don’t!!! so he smiles and puts it down next to him and he thanks me for it and I tell him thank you for coming etc etc he looked so tired poor buddy. and then I had to get back in line for Cait.

so I get up to Cait and she’s like “hi!! how are you?” and I told her I’d flown all the way from New York City to see her and she goes “my old stomping ground! where are you from?” and I said Manhattan and she was like oh I miss it so much! and I told her she should come back to visit and she leaned back and was like “I want to!” AND THEN ADN THEN. BACKSTORY: every fucking q&a she’s had on twitter I’ve asked her the same question about seeing theater in NYC and she’s never answered so in my brief moment of clarity I asked her if she sees theater when she’s there and she was like YES I love to! and I asked her what the last thing she saw was and she took a minute and made some really cute thinking facial expressions hahahaha and was like I don’t remember but I think it was something at the Public. and then I said thank you (again) and left and realized as I was leaving that I’d completely forgotten to give her the gift & my letter so I had to hand it to some lady working there hahahah OOPS. hopefully she got it.

BUT I HAD AN ACTUAL CONVERSATION WITH CAITRIONA BALFE CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. SHE IS AN ANGEL ON EARTH. and also I hope they fucking enjoyed that card. yikes.

and then I went out to meet my friend and we were sitting against a wall just like gathering ourselves and out walks Sam, I guess done w the autographing and he goes over to a group of peakers to take a group pic and right as it gets really quiet I go (not very loudly but....also too loud), “I don’t wanna be in a pic with him!!!” so that’s awkward hope he didn’t hear that. and then he goes into the bathroom and I shit you not 2 security guards stand in front of the bathroom. and then!!!! like a minute later Cait walks out, looking like a goddamn goddess, and goes to the bathroom and she comes out, Sam’s still in the bathroom, and she walks back into the panel room for something and then back out. Sam’s still in the gd bathroom and Cait’s like making her way towards the elevator taking selfies w people and then Sam walks out finally (he’d changed out of his kilt hence the security) and they both (with all their entourage) made their way towards the elevators. so naturally I planned on just walking by all casual but by the time I got over there they were gone behind some black curtains :(

can you do a headcanon where riley stays with eric for like a summer?

absolutely

Okay so 9th grade is drawing to a close and Riley’s a bit of an emotional mess

She’s just officially dumped Lucas after a few months of him being a shitty boyfriend and leaving her confused

She’s been picking up hints that Farkle’s actually interested in her, and by now she knows how she feels about him, but the dummy is still dating Isadora and hasn’t outright said anything so she’s just upset and confused about that whole situation

Her self-esteem is at an all time low, she’s fighting with Topanga more and more, she doesn’t want to talk about most of that with Maya and that’s causing them to fight a little

Basically she’s just back in ‘tired’ mode you feel

So Cory picks up on this and knows she just needs a general break so he starts looking up like if there’s any sleep away camps for her but he’s not finding anything he thinks she’d be thrilled with

And he does this for a while and just mentions it in passing to Eric (bc Eric knew something was up with her and wanted details) and Eric’s just like “dude I’m gonna be in DC for most of the summer and they’re running this program where high school kids can intern for their state’s senators. I’m SURE I could pull some strings and get Riley in”

And Cory thinks that sounds perfect bc he knows Riley misses being close to Eric and it’d be a great way for her to just forget about everything back home for two months and learn some things about politics while she’s at it

Topanga is sold because she thinks it would look great for college and job resumes

So one day after a particularly horrid day at school, during which she overheard 10 different classmates wonder when lucaya would get together now that Riley’s not ‘holding him back’, Smackle announced it was her and Farkle’s one year anniversary, and she accidentally toppled a pyramid during cheer practice, this girl is fucking done. She just wants to sleep. But Eric appears from the shadows and drags her off to dinner at some fancy restaurant

Like she appreciates the gesture but she’s not feeling it Topanga dead ass had to get a dress and shove her into the bathroom lmao

But anyway they get there and have a nice dinner. It’s literally just mostly Riley venting about all her problems while Eric nod’s and “no” ‘s appropriately

But sometime during dessert he just out of the blue “hey you wanna live with me this summer?”

This man has no tact there was no build up Riley was caught so off guard omfg

But he explains the whole internship thing, and he’s like “You’re a model student and I already spoke to the head of the program, they have no problem giving you the spot. I’ve got this big place in DC and Jack’s only going to be able to come by sporadically because of the company so that leaves plenty of time for uncle/niche bonding when I’m not at work. You’d get to meet a bunch of new kids your age, and I’m sure all the Smivy League colleges you’re shooting for will think this is great. You won’t have to focus on any drama with your friends until August. So, I’ll give you a few days to think about it? You know you can call me whenev-”

But Riley’s already shouting “YES!!!!” at the top of her lungs and lowkey tearing up omfg she’s so happy about this

Eric was not expecting this enthusiastic of a response but Riley’s hugging him and seems genuinely happy and excited for the first time all night so he’s thrilled

Okay, so she had to leave to be in DC about a week before her school actually got out. (Technically two, if you count the three days for exams) Cory worked it out so she took all her exams early on the weekend before she left

And Riley was like “Now, I could be mature about this and tell all my friends about this…Or I could be me and just up and leave with absolutely no warning and not give them any solid explanations unless I’m feeling better in August.”

She decides to go with that and swears Cory and Topanga and Auggie to secrecy lmao

Like literally the gang walks into History class one day and they’re all “Wtf where the hell is Riley she’s never absent” and Cory’s just like “Oh she moved to Washington please turn to page 394.”

You can imagine the reactions that got lmaoooo

So anyway, Riley’s in awe of Eric’s place in DC cause it’s so big and fancy

She doesn’t have to do anything her first day there so he sets her up with someone to take her on a tour of all the important buildings and stuff and she meets a couple of other intern kids so she has fun

And then when she actually starts the intern job it’s literally basically just following him around to take notes at meetings and getting messages to other senators and making coffee. She doesn’t find it that much of a hassle and really gets to know some of the other kids pretty well

They all have relatively the same grades and college aspirations as her and she’s like!!! Finally!!! People who are as smart as me but not obnoxiously condescending about it as Farkle and Smackle!!!

OR Finally!!!! People who seem to like me and not find any parts of me too annoying like Lucas and Maya!!!

Or Finally!!! People who don’t make me feel like they’re only talking to me out of convenience like Zay!!!

Like obviously Riley still adores her friends, she always will, but this was like a big eye opener that not every single person in the world is going to view her in the same way her friends and family do.

And that really helped with her self-esteem a bit. Did it also help that Maya wasn’t there so she could constantly feel overshadowed? Yes. Like, she knows Maya’s in her life for eternity, but having a couple months to learn to thrive without her was really helpful for Riley. Same with not having Topanga try to nit-pick everything she does, or Cory constantly worrying over her, or things like that.

Eric was a pretty chill guardian. He gave her space to grow and try to figure things out about herself, he had no problem with her hanging out with the other internship kids. He let her dye the ends of her hair purple (which she pulled into a bun during work hours to look more professional), she got another ear piercing, she started playing guitar again which she hadn’t really consistently done in years (Eric had somehow ended up with one of Alan’s old ones, but he never used it despite his talent for it lol. Riley found it in a space room when she was exploring around one day since Eric and Jack went for dinner)

And Riley loves spending all this time with Eric again. Since he was around daily in her early childhood, and she had never completely taken well to him moving out. While they stayed close through the years there was just something different about it, you know? So hanging out with him every day made her happy and feel a lot more carefree.

He took her out for lunch every day unless he had to work through it, they saw movies whenever they could, he let her drag him onto a couple horrid shopping trips (with all the pink he was starting to have war flashbacks to Desire lol), her Instagram was flooded with cute selfies of them, they ate way too much pizza because cooking will never be Eric’s strong spot, he took her to see a musical one night. They were having a lot of fun.

And Eric was just thrilled bc Riley was deadass thriving like she was so on top of everything for work and was always having fun with the other interns. She was back to huge, bright smiles never leaving her face, there was a bounce in her step at all times, she joked around a lot and everyone at the office adored her.

Riley, true to plan, barely spent any time worrying about any drama she had back home. She was living in the moment and being happy. She occasionally shot her friends short updates like “Having so much fun here! Can’t talk right now, too busy, but can’t wait to see you guys when I get back!” but that was basically all the thought she was giving them. This was a summer of having fun and focusing on herself and her own shit and that’s what she was committed to doing

There were a few instances where Eric and Jack had her go through everything that was upsetting her, just so she doesn’t go back and just immediately fall back into those situations.

Conclusions she came to:

1) She was absolute on her feelings for Farkle, and felt she had dropped enough hints alluding to them. The boy and Smackle had officially broken up sometime in late June, and after all the drama of Lucas being such a passive boyfriend, she demanded that Farkle would have to be smart enough to make the first move.

2) She needed to stop being so symbiotic with Maya, or else she will never escape feeling overshadowed by her. She was sorta getting there with cheerleading, but she shouldn’t let devotion to her friend stop her from joining other clubs she wanted to, like physics club or sci fi club or drama club or GSA or student council or film club or the basketball team or a book club. She just needed some space away from Maya in places she knew she’d enjoy and shine in.

3) She already knew she was completely over Lucas Friar’s ass, but she needed to stop listening to her obnoxious classmates gossip about them. They had no real idea of anything that went on between them, so whatever they have to say shouldn’t effect her

4) Her grades were just as good as Farkle and Smackle’s, and she was going to make damn sure they remembered that when school started back up. She was sick of being made to feel like an idiot just because she didn’t laude her grades over everyone (however unintentionally the duo were doing that). She knew Farkle was mostly better considering she had floored him when she turned out to tutor him in math earlier in the year, so her main focus was just beating Smackle at like every test she could lol. It might be slightly petty but what else do you want from a 15 year old?

5) She was going to sit down and have a LONG talk with Topanga about how she makes her feel.

6) She is going to remain in contact with all her new friends from across the country and make more in the clubs she’s planning on joining. Her little group is still who she feels closest to and she has no plans on ditching them, but she still wants to branch out and not feel dependent on people who don’t feel dependent on her. She doesn’t want to feel dependent on ANYBODY.

And various other ideas on just how to keep herself sane and happy. Eric is extremely proud of her for all this yes he cries a bit

She also has a brief fling with one of the other interns and they both know it’s not serious or going anywhere and tbh that kinda thrills her to just spend a few weeks kissing someone she knows she doesn’t have to feel destined to marry. Having something so non-serious like that helps her feel more like she’s growing into her own person and isn’t supposed to repeat the steps of her parents

Eric gave her a diary so she could keep a very detailed account of all she’s going through and figuring out

Did they spend a bunch of time reminiscing old memories??? Yes. Because Eric has way too many baby pictures of her lol

All in all they just really re-bonded and Riley really started blossoming during this summer. But she did eventually have to head back home.

There was a big ‘welcome back’ party planned at the bakery, and they were all expecting the Riley Matthews who left to walk through the doors right

But instead in walks Riley Matthews, who doesn’t have bags under her eyes and who seems like she’s almost glowing. Spring in her step, bright smile, purple hair, taller, not sleep deprived, looking genuinely happy to see everyone. She seems sure of herself and confident, everyone is fucking floored yo

She did throw glitter in the air for her own entrance though, so they did know their girl was in there lol

She maintains the summer spent with Eric was one of the best moves of her life Topanga and Cory are lowkey like is this an insult lol

So yeah season 4′s happening so we can get the developed and confident Riley we deserve what to you mean cancellation lmao you must have misheard

11 July

let’s see how many I do before I get too tired and put it off for another month

today in class we told victor we wanted to buy tickets for 42nd street and he said oh please do!! we’ll take a break when they go on sale so you can try to get some (and we did third row baby)

history classes just stress me out. i don’t talk much in any class and today after class victor actually asked john megan and sarah “so does she talk when you guys hang out is there something I’m doing wrong” and right away i was like omg no you’re fine I’m just quiet in class and I barely finished when john said “yea no she’s always pretty talkative, sometimes we can’t get her to stop this is weird for her” like k thanks bro (but also weirdly flattered he notices these things about me)

today we took the right way out of class and i stopped with sarah to get some food (at the iconic rockingham arms). i only really went bc it seems like she’s been by herself a lot lately. i only ordered a bagel and tbh it was nothing compared to the chocolate chip with maple shmear from lax. she was pretty quiet the whole time we were eating and even when we stopped at tesco on the way back she was quiet. whatever, her problem. i took a quick 10 minute nap before heading to the cereal killer cafe with john and megan (sarah didn’t want to come i guess??)

we got to sit in the front on the top of the bus and it was so cool. also it was cold outside again so life was great. megan showed me her john impression and tbh the way she sat when she did it was spot on. we also made fun of him for being like a grandpa (while reading the paper he sat with his legs crossed and yelled “this is all rubbish where is the world news?! i don’t care about tv news I want a story!”)

we wandered around the same block of camden forever because we didn’t realize the cafe was actually inside the market. once we found it holy hell was it cool. we all ordered some kind of cocktail (i got a cinnamon mix) and we got our vhs order tape (saved by the bell episodes). we sat in the corner on two beds, one was super mario and one was power rangers (so i mean technically john and i shared a bed with power ranger sheets nbd)

the place was SO 90s it was incredible. they only played 90s music and had cereal portraits of serial killers it was just great. this was also the first time john and i were left alone and we didn’t just sit in awkward silence so yay to progress. the cereal combo was 12/10 and i wish something like this existed in the states. john asked megan and i some british trivia questions from the 90s and i weirdly knew a lot of them from joe and zoe and i hate me

we wandered around the marked for bit but we didn’t see anything worthwhile so we tried coming back but couldn't find the right bus stop for like 10 minutes. once we got on the right bus john almost instantly fell asleep. it was actually pretty cute. also we sat next to each other again BLESS.

back at the dorms, I started getting ready for 42nd street and some girls in the kitchen were trying to open wine. they asked if i could help but i told them last time we tried opening a bottle we pushed the cork in with a heel so i wasn’t too helpful but they decided to just push the cork in too.

i made it downstairs before megan so john and i got a chance to chat again, and it was the least awkward conversations we’ve ever had. everything just felt so natural and good and pure. we took the bus to the show and it was a v chill bus ride. when we got there we were all SUPER pumped though and we found the bathrooms for megan. I have the bladder of a camel so I just stood and held bags. john and i started talking again with no awkwardness and it was just very comforting tbh.

we got to our seats and it sucked bc i was separate from them but i still had a killer seat at a freaking west end musical so I can’t complain too much. the show itself was my favorite one to date. the opening and ending numbers all 40 cast members had custom tap shoes and we’re in the money they had gold ones with bows and a rotating stage and the big dimes and the very finale was like 10 minutes of straight tap with sparkles and steps and risers and so much joy and wonder. I loved all the dancing and the singing/acting wasn’t too bad either i guess. Billy was played by an understudy but he was actually perfection and i loved him v v much.

after the show it was pouring rain so we pulled out our jackets/umbrella and started walking. we were all doing little tap steps along the way and it was just v innocent and giggly and fun and movie-esque. we realized at one point that we were going the complete wrong way. actually multiple time. we did like half the walk home just trying to find the bus stop. we walked in a lot of puddle and got soaking wet but it was still in good company. when we finally found the bus stop, i held my umbrella up higher mostly to avoid everyone else with their umbrellas but john took it as an open invitation to come under it. heck i wasn’t going to stop him. and then meg going us too.

so there we were, the three of us soaking from the waist down cuddled underneath a flower umbrella from pound land, waiting for a double decker bus. you gotta get lost in london rain at least once, right? we ended up seeing some of the ensemble members on the bus home actually too. we all got separated on the bus it was so crowded. i was stuck by some drunk dudes (who were also v cute) and when i saw john and megan i tried moving towards the doors and one guy was like oh man so sorry we isolated you!! and yelled at his friend to move so i could get off the bus.

john actually road the bus illegally. we went to fill up his card and then walk back together. it was a chill walk back, the rain let up a lot. we still talked about how much we all loved tap dancing and theatre and all good things like that. it was a very pure day and honestly one of my favorite days. I called casi to tell her about my day and then I wrote my theatre paper on titus and now it’s 1:30 am and i am pooped

***megan messaged us thanking us for going to 42nd street with her and i messaged them thanking them for a good day and john just said “you’re welcome home you sleep well” and we all typed in caps lock and i just greatly appreciate these dorks***

***also today megan realized how much she says holy shnikies after i said i started saying that and swanky because of them and john just laughed at swanky bc he started that one as a joke awhile ago but he’s glad we’re all catching on with it***
