BnHA Chapter 259: Jakku General Hospital

Previously on BnHA: We chilled with Hawks and Twice, who filled us in on the various different facets of Pliff’s plan to fuck over the world. For starters there are like a dozen new bad guys who are each heading different Pliff regiments, just in case anyone forgot that this is a literal army we’re dealing with here. Hawks also reminded us of the fact that Twice can clone basically any one of the bad guys as many times as he wants now, so that’s a nicely terrifying thought to sit and mull over. We learned that once Tomura is done powering up, the villains intend to attack all over the country simultaneously and basically destroy society as we know it. Oh and also kill all the heroes of course. But I think we already knew that. Anyway, so the one bright side in all of this is that Twice naively let it slip to Hawks where Tomura was currently undergoing his Frankenstein procedure. And so the chapter ended with basically all of the heroes in Japan launching a surprise attack in the mountains of Kyoto, while the kids waited on standby to help with the evacuations. And I know that doesn’t sound very safe, but... well... shit.

Today on BnHA: A quiet morning in the Kyoto suburb of Jakku. All is peaceful -- or so it seems. Little does the elderly CEO of Jakku General Hospital (a stand-up citizen, philanthropist, and caretaker of orphans all across the country) know that lying in wait just outside his doors is a group of wicked and immoral HEROES ready to -- okay lol you know what, I can’t. Not sure what I was really going for there anyway. So! Meanwhile in the woods outside the ol’ villain hotel, a second group of heroes led by Edgeshot and featuring several child heroes in training, including KAMINARI WHO WAS LITERALLY JUST BORN YESTERDAY AND SHOULD BE AT HOME IN HIS NURSERY WATCHING PAW PATROL AND NOT OUT HERE IN THE WOODS WHERE HE IS IN TERRIBLE DANGER, is gathered and ready to attack the League’s main forces. So things kick off with Death Arms apprehending the traitorous Slidin’ Go, while elsewhere the heroes bust into Jakku General Hospital to capture Ujiko. Show of hands, who here thinks this is going to go smoothly? ...Yep. Yeah. That’s what I thought.

okay guys, before we get started I’m gonna answer a couple of relevant asks from last week. first:

I’m almost hesitant to talk about this, because I’m paranoid that Viz and co. could pounce on these sites again at any moment, and so I feel like this sort of thing is better left to private messages and discord servers. but I guess one little mention of it won’t hurt. so the site currently doing the scanlations is readheroacademia.com, which has been around for a while. and there are several other sites which also host the new chapters and have all of the old chapters archived as well. kissmanga is a big one which I know a lot of people use, but my personal favorite is readmha.com (idk, I just feel like its layout is... cleaner? if that makes any sense)

also do keep in mind that all of these sites are pretty ad-heavy, so I wouldn’t recommend visiting without a good adblocker at the ready (I generally use Chrome on both desktop and mobile, and have uBlock Origin and Disable HTML5 Autoplay enabled on my desktop browser). that being said, I’ve never had any issues myself

good question! I was actually thinking about doing a weekly follow-up post on Sundays after the official Viz translation comes out, but obviously I did not end up doing that last week lol. so now I’m thinking it might be easier for me to just post any subsequent thoughts/remarks in the following week’s chapter recap, since I’m already committed to doing those anyway and so it makes it harder to flake out

so that said, my one follow-up thought about chapter 258 is that the fan scanlation seems to have mistranslated that whole “AFO’s resurgence” part. in Viz’s version Hawks was instead saying that the PLF’s plans would “throw the world into chaos and enthrone Shigaraki atop the rubble.” and he then referred to Tomura as the second coming of All for One. sooooo, pretty much exactly the opposite of the other translation lol. this is a big blow to my continued effort to search for evidence that AFO is gonna come back and be the final villain, but I am still not deterred. we will continue to fight on until AFO either actually dies, or does come back like I keep predicting he will! please try to work with me a little better here, AFO

one other thing, instead of “New World Movement”, Viz used the same “Vanguard Action” regiment name that was used during the forest training camp arc. Caleb said that the wording (“kaibyaku koudou”) was exactly the same. so I’ll be using that too moving forward. I guess that means that Pliff is still on the menu though, pity

anyway so let’s get started now

I’m... not really sure how I feel about this? like, right now I’m not trusting anything Horikoshi does lol. “quiet beginnings” you say? this is just a sneaky new way to bring me more pain. isn’t it

(ETA: I guess “quiet beginnings” also summarizes the other activities of this chapter pretty well. also is that Natsuo’s girlfriend??! at first I thought it was Rei, but those look like quirk-related ears? so Natsu then really is living his best college life huh.)

(ETA: wait, is he actually quirkless? or is that just another LIE. you big LIAR.)

I’m so curious what the kanji is for this latest name. can’t wait for Caleb to enlighten us. I wonder if it’s “shi” as in “death”, just like with Tomura/AFO’s name. and no idea at all what “Maruta” means. basically I just want to know if there’s some pun or something, since yet again he’s obviously using a fake alias here

(ETA: so someone informed me in an anon ask that this is a reference to Unit 731, which was a Japanese unit that undertook lethal human experimentation during WWII. basically the people who conducted the experiments referred to their human subjects as “logs” to dehumanize them. and the Japanese word for log is, you guessed it, maruta. so that’s an extremely powerful and disturbing association for this name, and it’s obvious now why Horikoshi went with it.

that said, the anon said that some people were really upset by this name choice, and while I guess I can understand that, I also think that’s kind of the point, though? like, it’s supposed to be horrifying. anyone with a human conscience and any kind of empathy whatsoever should be horrified. and atrocities like that shouldn’t be forgotten, and I actually think that for someone born and raised and living in Japan like Horikoshi to be making a reference to this is fairly ballsy. because my understanding is that, like a lot of Japan’s other war crimes, it was more or less hushed up by the government afterwards, and isn’t really taught in schools or mentioned in history textbooks other than in passing. so while I can understand people maybe finding it disrespectful, I don’t think it was meant as such. it seems to me that if anything, Horikoshi wants people to look into it and be educated about it. and again, obviously he’s associating it here with easily the most reprehensible and morally sickening character in the entire series, which is fitting I think. anyway so those are my thoughts on that.)

anyway, guess what guys? looks like we’ve got ourselves another Star Wars reference! let’s just hope this particular Jakku doesn’t wind up as wrecked as its namesake when all’s said and done. it’s gonna be a loooooong day

he’s a philanthropist! and he runs orphanages all over the country! wow! what a great person!! and nursing homes as well, where residents presumably die on the regular (of old age and other natural causes no doubt), at which point they are presumably cremated, and I wonder who runs the cremation facilities? I’m sure whoever it is is definitely on the up-and-up

and “quirk-based community healthcare.” I wonder if they’re selective about who they treat based on what their quirks are. all the better to make sure people with particularly strong and/or unique quirks get the specialized treatment they need!

anyway. see, this is more like what I expected. some super dark shit, and finally some answers to a few long-established questions as well, but not without a price. that price being the churning feeling in my gut right now lol. oh man. well I just ate, so that might have something to do with it. but I tell ya, nothing makes you vaguely queasy like trying your best not to think about a massive conspiracy to kidnap and torture innocent children in the pursuit of ultimate power! so anyways I sure do hate this!

how do you get into roleplaying on a ff server? like how do you do it and how do you know if your character is lore compliant? ;A; pls youre a big inspo to me

*Hugs Nonny* Getting into RP on a FF server can vary; I don’t actually RP much these days, outside of some friends I already have connections to--and that in itself can be difficult just due to Life! It can take time, and patience, and some fits and starts.

And this gets...really really long, so buckle up and go below the cut, please. :)

In game there’s always the RP status tag, and just doing RP with folks in public spaces. There may be trolls now and then, but they can be ignored. I personally find Balmung’s Quicksand area too busy and anxiety inducing and not actually all that conducive to actual RP, even “meet at a tavern” walk-up type. But unless you already have a ready-made group of friends/FCmates willing to RP more than some random walk-ups with you, it may take some legwork to find folks you can and want to write with.

Social Media There are a couple of RP community blogs, like @mooglemeet and @ffxiv-crystal-rp and plenty of server-specific ones. There’s also some Discords for these communities. They host and advertise events and reblog people who are looking for RP contacts. Some of them have running gdoc calendars and in game linkshells and fellowships as well.

Shofie has a good post about Tumblr/social media RP blogging.

It’s a fact now that social media outside game is a way to make contacts, or even a medium for RP itself. There are few centralized websites/forums for server RP communities anymore. Making connections over your social media, like Tumblr and Twitter, can help find RP. You can’t just throw your own character info out there or reblog prompts hoping others bite, though; you have to put in some work and show interest in others, too. This can be difficult and even scary. That’s OK.

RP is about collaboration and creating with other people, which means finding folks you can write with, and who see you as someone interesting but also interested in them and their OCs. If you want to keep it a solo endeavor focused on your own OCs, write fanfic (which I’ve actually made friends and gotten RP interests that way too through comment interactions, so hey).

If you reblog a prompt from someone, see others on your dash reblogging prompts, if people reblog that prompt post from you? Send them asks! Alternatively, don’t wait for prompts, just send asks, comments, or chats saying hello and things you notice or like about their blog/character/posts they make. Try to form connections with people you think are genuinely interesting and might be fun to talk with. Social media should be, well, social.

BUT respect boundaries, too. Don’t try sarcasm or jokes with people you don’t actually know, it tends to go over poorly. Unless someone’s specifically posting a naughty meme/prompt, keep stuff you others send clean and polite, especially if it’s unsolicited and you’re not already friends (doubly so if you don’t know how old they are IRL, there are laws you do not want to break). Respect if people aren’t open to random asks or chatting with new followers, or say “no” to RP, and know it’s not personal--it’s just what they have time, energy, and emotional/mental capacity for. Don’t give up on other people, though. This stuff can take time and effort to find those you click with.

Respect and communication with RP partners is pretty key.

Do curate your feeds and don’t be afraid to unfollow/mute/block folks, either. I’m selective in who I follow and remove as needed, too, for my own mental health. I miss so much of the discourse and drama and that’s fine by me. Also it costs nothing to not step in on a lot of the drama when it does pass in sight.

Profiles I have static RP profile pages for my girls here on Tumblr (and a lot of other static links and pages, but I’m weird about organizing like that). This way, if people want to write with me, send me prompts, if I sent them prompts, or they want to otherwise interact with my characters, the information is handily available. For some folks, this makes all the difference in who they choose to interact with: how easily can they find even basic info about your OC?

Some people make Carrds. Some folks have gdoc links, or use Dreamwidth, etc. Just keep the links in the blog’s sidebar menu, and/or in the blog desc so people can see ‘em on mobile. There are templates out there, or you can make your own. Feel free to snag mine if you’d like. A lot of times people also copy their profiles to rebloggable posts when looking for RP contacts. Profiles are a good way to let folks know just the at-a-glance basics about your character(s).

I picked a simple theme with a simple layout that makes it easy to add and show off links. I put them in the blog desc to make them easy to find on mobile, too.

RP, Stories, Lore Post some stories or RP logs (with permission of others involved) or even just random little blurbs and headcanons, as well as any screenshots, art, aesthetic posts for your OCs. Have something of interest to show for your character, too, so some of those folks your interacting with have something of their own to see and ask about!

If possible, try some light RP with friends and FC Mates who are amenable. Go to events, even if just to lurk at first. When you do get up the nerve to talk to people, don’t try to throw a character’s entire backstory at them, or try to steal the limelight--RP is collaboration, back and forth, and a lot like real conversation. Maybe come up with little light things to talk about if asked; a recent adventuring job, a silly shopping incident, etc. They can break the ice or just give you something to reply with for a few minutes.

Lore Compliance is Variable. Some people really want lore compliance, others are OK bending it here and there, while still others throw it out the window entirely. If you want to be super lore compliant...read. There’s a LOT of information, in game and out, for finding lore; from official publications and website material, to tools like Garland Tools site, to compilation blogs like @mirkemenagerie.

Note what’s important for your concept. Narrow it down. Characters aren’t going to know or be or do everything, so only worry about what’s necessary for the base idea. And be flexible; it’s SE’s sandbox, we just play in it, and they can change things any time. They usually do it in the guise of characters not knowing/having all the correct information, at least, but also some places just don’t exist in game yet so we don’t have info.

I’m unspecific about a lot of elements of Aeryn’s childhood, for instance, other than “traveling merchants near Thavnair.” I don’t have to be super specific. I can keep most details vague, and focus on her family and those relationships.

Dark, as my first character, has a fairly simple backstory that I’ve expanded on and adjusted over time as I learned and came up with new info. I also bet no one remembers I originally said Dark was from the North Shroud. I’ve changed things (now from East Shroud, due to the proximity to Gyr Abania and its Hellsguards) as I learned more about the world and my character. You don’t want to change things willy-nilly, but sometimes being flexible and smoothing down some rough edges and making small changes can be fine, especially as one gets more lore over time.

Iyna has a pretty detailed backstory, that came from a basic idea, and checking dates in the pre-Calamity timeline. I based her being taken and trained the way she was not only on what info we have about Garlemald’s imperial practices with conquered provinces, but borrowed a bit from real life and the re-education schools many Native Americans were forced into (though I haven’t gone into detail on that yet, either). I tied the turning point in Iyna’s life to a major event that wasn’t the Calamity, and have left plenty of space in between for me to fill in as time goes on and I learn more about her and the world.

The world isn’t static, and is bigger and more diverse than what can be shown in the game. There’s space in the margins for plenty of weird stuff and contradictions or unusual cases. So read up on what you can, ask questions, and then find where in those spaces your OC fits. Then, find people who enjoy similar tastes in lore compliance (or non-compliance), and who enjoy playing with you and your OCs, and not worrying about the rest. Can’t please everyone, nor get along with everyone, so don’t try; just find what works for you, and who works with you, and don’t police anyone else’s pretendy fun times, either.

There’s no magic answer on the “right” amount of lore compliance, or how to quickly and easily find RP partners or break into the broader RP community.

I hope this helps at least a little bit! Good luck in finding your niche for RP, and maybe I’ll see you sometime at an event :)

alright, so I’ve been thinking about overwatch’s potential lineup of content for may, particularly when anniversary might start bc that’s what’s on everyone’s mind atm. and after talking to some discord pals and thinking to myself for a bit, i’ve settled on two possibilities (that i personally would like to see).

before i list them off, i just wanna make note that we’re most likely going to get an event of some kind next thursday at 3pm (atlantic time), which is the usual update time. the current comp season (season 21) is scheduled to end in 6 days (which is really 6 days and some odd hours but they never specify how many hours that is), and so it makes sense that we would get something right after that season ends and the new one begins imo, especially considering that 3pm atlantic time is the time they release patches to the live servers, including the start of events like anniversary.

(fair warning that this is a bit of a long post and i’m on mobile so i can’t put in a read more, sorry!)

the first possibility i have in mind is the one that makes a bit more sense logically and follows dates from previous years. anniversary has always started on the tuesday closest to may 24th, which is ovw’s actual birthday. so, if we’re set to get something next thursday, we could potentially get a mini two week challenge event (possibly with a short story being released the day before?).

it would make sense in terms of traditional anniversary start dates, but the only gripe i have with it is that if it ran for two weeks starting on the 7th of may, then it would end on the 21st of may, which would surely be the anniversary starting date if it’s not the 19th. so in order to make sure it starts at the right time, the challenge would have to end a couple days before the 21st, making it not completely two weeks, which is something mini challenge events don’t normally do.

there’s also the possibility of the challenge beginning on tuesday the 5th, ending on tuesday the 19th, and anniversary beginning on thursday the 21st, but that conflicts with the strong evidence of an event coming next thursday.

the other possibility i have laid out might sound a bit far fetched at first, but i feel like it has more facts to support it, rather than the previous idea which was mostly guesswork with shaky conclusions tbh. what if anniversary actually began on may 7th?

i know you’re probably thinking I’ve lost my mind, but as arthur conan doyle once said, “When you remove the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.” and think about it:

- if it started on the 7th and went for three weeks, it would end on the 28th, meaning that the 24th would be in the event period timeframe and it would leave the whole month of june open for content (and probably a short story). there would be no ending of something else to interfere with the start of anniversary if this theory is true

- the 7th is a thursday, and the last two seasonal events we got (year of the rat and archives) started on thursdays

- (almost) none of the Important Content Dates for this year have been consistent with the ones from previous years, and although anniversary is an event that’s fixed around one day, it’s safe to say we have a bit more leniency when it comes to our guesses this year if you ask me

- jeff said in an interview with pcgamesn from a little over a month ago that the team was working on some stuff for summer games. if they were working on stuff for summer games back then, wouldn’t that imply that they had at least a good chunk of anniversary stuff done all the way back in late march, just waiting for the event to roll around so they can release it?

- what other guesses do we have? sure, there’s the 12th and 14th, but that also butts heads with the evidence of something arriving on the 7th. this is one of the only layouts i can think of where the dates both make sense (even if it takes some thinking at first) and keep the surprise factor that pretty much every other important date has had so far this year.

i think the only piece of this theory i’m missing is the one i can’t get myself, and that is a background update. in case you don’t know, seasonal events like anniversary always have a background update that needs to be installed a couple days before the event goes up so it can load the new menu screen and stuff (i think). iirc, these updates only happen on pc, so if any pc folks happen to get a background update in the days leading up to the 7th, feel free to tip me off bc i genuinely wanna see if i’m right on this or not haha

Please note: Hibari is someone who likes being aloof, That means regardless of whom I rp with, chances are that our RP’s and threads are rarely long due to Hibari’s character. It might be different. if we decide on a multi rp, but that’s unlikely to happen very often because I rather write those I’m good with and not other characters. However I may agree to it if other characters involved in our rp are written like NPC’s or if I just need to explain what they do and not write and speak as them.r

x- About my muse: I can be a battle maniac and bastard in rp and my muse will often say “kamikorosu” aka.. “I’ll bite you to death”; honestly it might be a bother within a while to read that all the time.. but if you don’t like it ,then know that I don’t care because Hibari says it a lot and doing that is only in character. And I care way more about an accurate portrayal than some possible complains.

furthermore be aware that due to my headcanon this hibari is a yakuza son and hitman. I know a lot about the yakuza traditional and modern ones. And that’s why I think it’s obvious that Hibari is definitely related to that. As I mentioned already my muse is a battle maniac. that means fighting situations can and very likely will happen a lot in our RP. I do not expect you to be a great writer at T-1 tho, so please don’t worry about detailing.

my writing style differs via mode. Sometimes I write a lot, sometimes not. My preferences are para-semi and novella. There is absolutely no need for you to do the same in return. But if we have chosen a semi para rp I ask kindly that you refrain from sending a single line as reply. I always allow this for asks and crack rps tho. I’m not a professional writer so please expect me to have writing flaws. English is not my native language after all.

I approve of M!A’s but I have a right to refuse them when I don’t like them, or think of them as too ooc;If you are part of a MMOFRPG group and would like to rp with me, don’t be afraid to approach me. I used to rp at MMOFRPG for an entire year and I don’t mind roleplaying with you just because you’re part of a group.

If you think I missed your reply, hit me up pls. I try my best to make each roleplay enjoyable for my roleplay partner, chances are , I’m trying even to meet your way of writing, to please you. NOTE: all opinions expressed here are mine, jack’s, belonging to jack. i make no claims to knowing what is best for every group – i only offer advice based on my experiences, what i’ve seen in the community, and my personal knowledge. no one person knows what is best for you or any group other than yourself; because you were the one who put all of this together in the first place. so take everything i say as a suggestion, and remember that you have accomplished so much!!

i want to point out before the opinion that this isn’t just a shoutout, it is a very big rec!! thepinesrpg is a great place to form a muse in a creative yet familiar supernatural environment

and if you have any questions, want feedback on something specific, or want elaborations on anything said in this opinion, don’t hesitate to message me!!

So first impressions by the main are excellent. Your header image is minimalist but with that slight movement from the gif that it doesn’t draw attention to it repeatedly but also it’s not cluttered and an eyesore as some headers often can be. The contrast of the dark green with the white shades of the background create a good balance too. Personally I’m a BIG fan of sidebars that include a lot of worldbuilding information like the calendar, the weather forecast, etc. I will say though it IS a lot of scrolling. Ideally finding a theme with two sidebars would be perfect to kind of give a balance to what you’re looking to have included but I know they can be hard to find while still including everything you want out of the theme itself -- so that’s not a big issue.

The one thing that I’m against is the length of your sidebar description. It’s catchy, sure, but three paragraphs is a bit long compared to other rpgs. I’d recommend bringing it down to one paragraph with your favorite parts and then including a generic statement at the bottom. I actually ended up putting one together myself (which you’re free to use if you want to take my advice on condensing it, otherwise feel free to ignore it) below:

They say it’s the quiet ones that you have to watch out for ― that the most dangerous people wait in silence to strike. Places are like people in that way. With big cities it’s all noise… but towns―towns are quiet, aren’t they? And this town ― Blackwood Pines ― made quiet danger an art form. But you’ll never know about the accidents, the disappearances, the murders or cults or hauntings until you move here. That’s how we like it. So why not stay a while? Take in the sights, breathe in the mountain air. If you’re brave enough see what kind of trouble you find… or what kind of trouble finds you.

I’m also wondering if it wouldn’t be more prudent to reduce your sidebar links to your primary focuses? I feel like Tasks and Events can be brought up to the Post Acceptance tab. In what I’ve seen the existence of Sidebar links is for those things that don’t really have a PLACE on a main link bar, or that would extend one subsection way too far. Reducing it to your mobile nav, trigger list, announcements, discord, and inspo blog might help you seem less cluttered in the long run.

I love love love your Plot. It’s well-written, well thought-out, and just overall cuts right to the chase and gives me the information I need while also encouraging me to keep reading to learn more. My recommendation would be to move the timeline of events to its own page. I get how it builds on the plot but thinking ahead it would be an excellent page to include RP Events and Plot Drops, but you don’t want the plot page to seem too long. I love the timeline idea but adding it to its own page highlights both the Plot and Timeline separately as their own informational pages.

Your Guidelines, not gonna lie, are HELLA long. Many of those points can either be condensed into one statement or brought together with other points. I’d say just go over them as admins and see what is redundant and what could be worked out with less words. The reason I say this is because a lot of times long rules pages -- while personally something I like, as it proves the RPG has structure behind it -- can be a huge turn-off for potential members. God knows why, but they just are. You can still say everything you have with less wordage!

Just so y’all know -- your FAQ link redirects back to the main. Don’t know if that’s on purpose yet or not.

So your Character Masterlist page theme… shows a LOT right off the bat. I can get why that’s appealing but have you considered down the line when you have tons of members keeping all of that information in line and constantly updated? It can be really time-consuming. Finding a page theme that has room for the FC, name, and species (and player, but that’s optional i.m.o.) would make it seem much neater and then you can link to pages with all of that additional info as well as character biographies. This is partially personal preference but also just what I see from groups like yours in the rpc, while also taking into consideration the amount of work you’ll have to do down the line.

As a whole your worldbuilding pages are great! I’m not gonna comment on your lore because, well, it's YOUR lore. But I am seeing a lot of different page theme codes and while it can be helpful in differentiating the different info… I’ll warn you that it can alienate potential members. There was a bit of discourse about this a while back in the rpc and while I couldn’t give less of a fuck about what people think so long as my info is presented well, as someone with attention issues it is a little hard for me to keep focus when there’s just so many different layouts changing; some unnecessarily. Some people just don’t like it -- which is silly -- but it can take away from people’s experience if they have attention and focus issues like I do.

I’m a big fan of how all your forms are on one page?? Hiatus, Connections, Application; having all of that in one place makes it very easy for members and newcomers and honestly can we make that the standard?? I’ll happily pitch it.

There is only one thing I’ll request y’all DO change, and this is something I’ve spoken to other rpgs about before. I’d like for you guys to go through your pages and take every instance of “MALE” and “FEMALE” and replace them with “MEN” and “WOMEN.” It’s a common language mistake but does wonders for showcasing the inclusive environment I know you admins are striving for here. Especially since you do have a Non-Binary section as well.

Overall I’m a HUGE fan of your rpg. It’s not my personal cup of tea but I’m a sucker for lore, worldbuilding, and tons of info and history to suck up before I’ve even started thinking about a character. Many RPGs with these types of in-depth info pages are limited only to skeletons and I think your choice to have open characters and apps is a great one. There’s a lot of long-lasting potential here as well as great and juicy Events and Plots. You guys should be very, very proud. And you should also know that there are groups of people who are NOT as excited about extensive lore as we are. It has the potential to alienate some just looking for a place to make a muse and write in a new setting--which is what you guys are at your core. Whether you’re fine with that or maybe want to go back and see if there’s anything redundant that can be erased or condensed -- that is completely up to you guys. I had my own lore-heavy RPG and know the pros and cons firsthand.

I can see you guys being around for a long time and I urge you to keep up the amazing dedication! There’s a great admin team here and that’s apparent from the first page. Good job guys!!

In order to make my rules more accessible to mobile users, I’m posting them here-

Please follow these rules or risk being unfollowed, soft blocked, or blocked;

While I am primarily a para/multi-para role-player(with a dab of novella mixed in), I have also done some semi-para and one-liner role-play. It typically depends on what I’m giving. That said, if I get too little, I will ask for more because I need some form of content in order to reply. If I send you a reply or starter and it’s too long for you (I’ve never run into this problem, but I have friends who have), please do not ask me to shorten it for you. I likely won’t be able to.

You don’t have to tell me you’re dropping a thread. You don’t have to keep up with a constant Ask Box oriented role-play. I don’t need constant interaction with you to keep following you. That said, I will likely drop threads and whatnot. It’s not for any particular reason. I only have so much time and so much energy. This isn’t a rule so much as a fore warning; If dropped threads bothers you, then perhaps starting them with me isn’t the grandest of ideas.

While I, myself, will have triggering content on my blog, I do attempt to tag EVERYTHING. I will be posting a tags list on my blog with a list of tags I use for triggers, but if you need a very specific tag used, please do not hesitate to message me. Triggers and appropriate tags are extremely important for me as I want my blog to be safe for everyone who follows me.

Shipping with Kaiba will probably actually be very difficult, if shipping is your intent. Please do not auto-ship without express permission. I prefer slow builds and relationship development. As well, if you don’t play your character in a way that I can see us shipping, please do not be upset. I adore all forms of role-playing; Friends, enemies, frienemies, etc. Please give me more than just mindless ship fodder. Plus, I will not change how Kaiba acts or responds just for the sake of friendship or any form of ship. I play him a certain way and I like how I play him.

I take a while to reply sometimes. I have a soul sucking job (I have literally watched so many people crack and fold here, man, it’s not okay.) and I have a lot of personal stuff that can make me too exhausted to reply immediately. Please do not pressure me for replies. As well, there are very close friends I role-play with here and they typically take priority. And remember, the more threads I have going, the slower I’ll be. Simply put, I very much appreciate your patience, but if you can not be patient, then perhaps I am not a suitable role-play partner.

I use icons for some of my blogs! You do not need to. Obviously. If you want to use my icons, feel free to. I don’t mind. They took me two seconds to make and are just cropped doujin images with a blue filter. That being said, I do NOT condone stealing other rper’s icons. A lot of people worked really hard on theirs and are really proud. It’s awesome that you think they look cool, but please don’t steal other people’s icons. Also, if you use fancy text for your role-plays or fancy tags, that’s awesome. I typically do not. If that bothers you for some reason, simply leave.

I don’t like elitism. We’re here for fun. So instead of mocking new people or calling them trash for not having fancy layouts or whatever, how about instead offer to help? Someone’s layout being a more mobile oriented one doesn’t mean they’re a bad role-player. You’re no better than the rest of us. We’re all just nerds writing about OTHER nerds. Like, how is elitism even an issue in this fandom, I don’t even– Just don’t do it. I likely won’t interact with you if you are.

While I originally was not very particular in how I role-played here on Tumblr, I’ve found some peeves that I have. If I answer an in character ask and you can’t make a new post, just tell me. You can reblog the ask and then I’ll make the new post, but please do not continue the role-play in thread comments, because I will absolutely lose your reply. Do not reblog an ask without telling me first. I don’t mind doing the grunt work to make the new post, though. So just- Communicate. I also do not role-play in private messages. If you want to role-play privately, I use Discord for that. If you do not use Discord, then you’re just out of luck.

If you are not involved in the role-play do not reblog or comment on it. At all. Like it, read it, move on. Maybe message me or send an Ask about it, but that’s it. I appreciate you enjoying my work, though.

Unless you are a very close friend of mine, don’t come to me with your drama. While I’m known to be pretty outspoken on my views here, I don’t just get involved in everyone’s stuff, even if I’d agree with you and take your side. I’m too tired for it. That said, people need to stop creating drama in the first place.

I won’t give you any “warning” if you break my rules to the point of me blocking people. If I block you, just leave it alone. If I even hear a whisper about “Someone please ask @radiant-blue-eyes why they blocked me”, I will go out of my way to never address any utterance of your existence. If I block you, deal with it. It’s simple. I don’t know why everyone has an issue with that. I’m sure plenty of people have me blocked, and I don’t even remember their names.

I try not to be selective. I like being open to most people. So if I don’t follow you back right away, it’s probably because I just haven’t gotten around to it. Please be patient with me.

for edits

- tag source/network/mututals/popular blogs in your edits: i know it’s scary and I sometimes still feel uncomfortable tagging mututals and especially blogs that don’t follow me but most people appreciate it a lot when you tag them in your edits and the worst that can happen is that they won’t reblog it (feel free to tag me, I track #usersabrina)

- use the right tags on your edits: beside the tags for the blogs I just mention check out which other tags are popular in the fandom (like hpedit for the harry potter fandoms or gotcharactername for the got fandom etc)

- try to make edits regulary: i know that’s hard because life is busy but it’s the best way to get followers tho asgaj I always take a few hours a week to make edits and then put them in my queue (so that one is posted everday)

for your blog in general

- choose a nice blog layout: it’s not really logical but people will follow you more easily if you have a nice (not overloaded) blog layout, don’t use a default theme from tumblr (check out my theme blog for recs @venusthms)

- have a nice mobile theme: it’s the same reason as above ahsaj people will just follow quicker if you have a good (not overloaded) mobile theme

- interact with people: people will notice you more easily when you interact with them ! i know it can be scary to socialize with people but it’s a good way to get friends on here ! maybe just message some of your favorite blogs telling them you like their blog !

- have a good tagging system: a lot people won’t follow you if you don’t tag your post properly (at least tag the fandom but preferably ships/characters too)

- join networks/fandom family’s/ discord chats: again it’s all about getting to know people ahsja beside that networks/familys/chats are fun and a lot even offer a space where you can share your edits

Any advice for first time admins? I'm desperately trying to start up this roleplay but I'm having a hard time. Thanks!

no problem, bub !! * finger guns * i’ve only ever been an admin once, an rp that my friend created. it was hard at first, i have to admit, which i feel it is for most people. you get a spark of an idea, but it sometimes doesn’t quite ignite the flame. you just have to keep trying and don’t give up. if you want to know anything else, just send another ask, or send me an im, but i feel most of the things will be addressed under the cut.

personal advice:

i would like to put emphasis on you, the person behind the admin. managing an rp is great, but you also need to take time for you and your life. don’t suffer at the hands of your rp, and don’t let people make you feel bad for taking time for you, either. because let’s face it, people can be really impatient and try to make you feel bad. ignore them. whilst, yes, it’s also for them, it’s also for you. so make sure you don’t take things out on yourself if it doesn’t work out straight away. you’re going to make mistakes as a first-time admin, creating an rp from scratch, just keep that in mind. you just need to correct those mistakes when they happen. the fact that you’ve managed to pull together a plot, bios and the rp in general, is something to be proud of in itself, even if it doesn’t take off. not everything is going to work out straight away - an rp doesn’t start up overnight. but, if you keep at it, and don’t give up, even when things get tough, then you’ll persist through it. dedication is a large chunk of being an admin, especially when you’re the admin that started it all. but don’t let that dedication ware you out and make it all seem tedious, which it can if you put too much pressure on yourself. it’s not a job, after all. it’s something you’re doing out of your free time because you enjoy it, don’t let people take advantage of that. it’s your group. just have optimism in what you’re working towards, and not where you are. like drake said, started from the bottom now we’re here.

and, if things ever get too tough, why not consider getting a co-admin, as my friend did with me. so, you could possibly ask a friend on here. it’s so useful when it comes to queueing promos. however, i know there can be drama sometimes when admins clash, but i rarely see that happen, not nearly as much as i used too. but, i would understand if you were against it too.

general:

enthusiasm. it’s a key factor in putting a spotlight on your rp and gaining members because it shows how excited you are about your rp, which tells them you’re passionate about it and it means a lot to you.. it also shows them how much effort you’ve put in, and you haven’t gone into this all aimlessly.

communication, which this sorta overlaps into enthusiasm too. when your rp firsts opens, embrace them with open arms and welcome them into the group personally. by taking care of your members from the get-go, it creates a positive atmosphere where muns want to stick around for longer, therefore ensuring that the rp lasts longer. a members first few weeks are a key time for shaping their opinion of the rp, since it can be so intimidating if you don’t know anyone in the group already, and people sometimes are unsure of whether they want to stay or not. it’s one of the reasons why i feel an ooc chat of some sort ( i get onto this in a moment ) is very important, as it allows you and other members to get to know one another. i’ve always noticed that when the rp feels more like a big family, and the admins are very welcoming, it tends to stay open for longer. it’s definitely why i stay around in rps for longer times.

hate. it’s something that not only all rps receive, but all people receive. it’s the downside of anonymity since people feel that they can hide behind the feature and not face the consequences. it’s the worst. but, you can be the better person. sometimes, it can be straight out nasty what they say, or someone words something in a condescending way. there’s one thing to have a criticism about an rp in a constructive way, but it’s another to send hate about it. either way, you either delete it but keep it in mind, or respond with maturity and dignity. in my personal opinion, don’t give the anon the satisfaction by posting it. but, do make a post about anon hate, to reinforce the fact that anon hate will not be accepted. the thing that a lot of anons forget is it’s actually very easy to track them down.

promoting. get out there and promote as much as possible. there are many ways you can do this. you’ll want to advertise on your main blog, tagging the posts effectively with the correct tags. but, a key thing is also creating a promo blog ( which can just be a sideblog to the main, ) and promo graphics for it that focuses on the aesthetic of your rp and is eye-catching. then write out a little teaser plot to go underneath your graphics with different links for the rp too - capture the essence of the plot, but don’t go into too much detail - just something that will catch people’s eye. since people will get the rest of the information when they arrive on the main. it’s like meeting new friends, you don’t wouldn’t everything about yourself straight away on the first encounter ?? because then there’s no mystery and people get bored. and, then there’s the queueing. but, with the help of xkit, that should be slightly easier since it has a more advanced timer. it can take a while to copy and paste the promos, but if you stack 2 or 3 days worth, and then use a timer of whatever time you feel between posts, you should be okay. just, try not to flood some tags, since some are less busy than others. another way to promote is to go to different rphs that do shoutouts and reviews and request those. use a description you feel will make the rp stand out, which are generally the ones that catch my eye. especially, since, the shoutout tag will have lots and lots of other rps trying to promote their blogs too. but, be patient with rphs. if they haven’t gotten around to your shoutout or review yet, it probably just means they’re a little busy. if you want to look at anything more about promoting, i would advise looking at this post.

uphold your rules ( which i have to say look perfect ) to a fault. a few rps i’ve been in, i’ve seen that the admins have favourites, and therefore were more lenient with certain muns. so, just make sure, you treat everyone the same when it comes to rules. of course, if someone is having real life issues, then it’s okay to be sympathetic, but don’t let people take advantage of that.

also, there’s always the decision of making either an ooc blog, discord server, chatzy server or really any type of platform that could be used for members. there are disadvantages to each, but also pros to each. my personal preference would be discord since it’s easier to keep track of. but, it can be stressful at times. but, that’s the thing. it is about personal preference. so, when the rp opens and you have a certain amount of members, create a poll to see what they would like, since not everyone likes all of them, and it’s just fairer that way. now that i mention it, polls are very handy for knowing what your members want. like, if you have ideas for an event but aren’t sure, do a poll and see what the members choose.

application

picking certain applications over another can be tricky. one thing you want to look out for when picking an app is their originality and the direction they take the character since in your rp it’s all up to the players. though, personally, it will be tough, since you don’t want some people to be left out when it comes to connections ( maybe have a max of 3 ?? ), so that will be something you need to look out for to make sure characters will have the same amount fo connections. and, sometimes, you have to choose between two people who have applied for the same character. so, if one mun doesn’t get the character, but the app was still very good, then just send them a message saying they enjoyed their app, but it wasn’t accepted, and hopefully, they can apply with another character, since there are many bios on offer.

aesthetic / theme:

make sure your theme is coherent and readable, balancing that with aesthetics. both are needed. an aesthetically pleasing layout and colour scheme do attract potential members, but you also have to make sure that it isn’t at the expense of font size or texture, which can make it harder for people, especially those with impaired vision, to read the text. make sure the colour of any of the text doesn’t clash with the background, especially with graphics on the blog. and, last but not least, make sure your navigation page is easily accessible, both on mobile and desktop, but from looking at what you have so far, it seems very easy to find. i also think it would be great to have a masterlist page, with all possible characters on one page, using a page theme like this or this, where you could create filters on availability, gender and affiliation. a locations page could also intrigue people too, using this page theme or a similar one.

4. Yes I know Zoom. I came to know Zoom when I visited Korea last year when covid first hit and church had to be done on Zoom.

6. Only use it for church. Have used it once for work because the client insisted we use Zoom. Usually use google hangouts at work.

7. Kinda confusing at first. Mostly because video meetings weren’t the norm before covid.

4. Yes I do. When we went into our first lockdown, we had to use it for uni classes and church.

5. Yes I have used it before. My first experience was when we had to have online classes for university.

6. We don’t use it for uni anymore, but we still use it at church for our daily 9pm prayer meetings.

7. It felt very unfamiliar because I hadn’t used some kind of video calling service in such a long time, especially in large groups.

8. Screen share was super helpful. I also like gallery view where we can see everyone rather than just the speaker.

9. At times I felt more connected to people because we could meet more frequently on Zoom more than we would meet in real life.

10. I don’t know about similar software. I only ever used video calling on my phone for brief calls and Zoom is already much more advanced than that.

11. Yes, we used it at uni. The features that were really useful were obviously the screen sharing so that we could see what the lecturer was referring to as they were talking, as well as the breakout rooms. We were in a class of 200, and then used the breakout room feature to split into groups of 4 or 5 to have discussions before coming back together. These features made online classes a lot easier and manageable. The chat feature was also useful because if a student had a question, we did not have to turn on our mic in the middle of class, but instead just ask on the chat.

5. My online experience was ok for the first time. It was engaging because of the break out rooms. It felt like in class where the lecturer jumped from each table. Peer to peer communication was good. It was quite awkward at times because only 2-3 people turned their cameras on, so very little social interaction.

6. I use it for collab projects with my uni partner

7. Simple, functions are easy, but it would be better if it straight away shared the screen if you clicked on the button (right now there are too many steps)

8. I was quite happy because I could finish and continue with my papers, way better than blackboard because you can't see who is speaking and all of the members. Zoom you can see everyone in the meeting

9. Share screen, reaction emojis are good as it lets people engage just like they are in a classroom

10. The break out rooms were great as I was able to have the 1:1 discussions and have engagement with the lecturer just as in real life. It was nice to have the time to catch up with classmates before class started.

11. For the chat, it would be nice to follow the facebook messenger system where there are separate chat boxes for different people. The current zoom chat system is confusing and can accidentally send to wrong people.

When we start a roleplay, I try always strictly to stay in character, Rena will not just appear in your timeline/world without a proper plot.

another aspect of this might be my husbando, since he roleplays mainly edgy Battler, it’s more ic; for our muses; rena loves Keiichi, and even if she falls for Battler during an rp, there is no way she’d fall for the edgy Battler too. Since he’s literally a nightmare of the original Battler.

Rena has been through a lot of shit. She is bad-ass insane at times. However, Rena isn’t a killer-loli, She’s much more than that. Despite her usual cheerful and childish behavior, she’s actually one of the most matured characters in Higurashi with a really deep personality. And I will roleplay her accurate to the games not the anime.

You may consider Rena as a Yangire which isn’t just wrong, but please keep in mind that her deceiving treats come from her delusions most of the time and such come again by 80% from the hinamizawa syndrom.

Rena has the highest number of murders of the club members because in Yoigoshi-hen (the alternate version of Tsumihoroboshi-hen) she successfully blew up the whole school which killed 15 children (including herself, Mion, Satoko, Rika and Keiichi), likewise, she murdered Houjou Teppei and Mamiya Rina.

Rena is not mentally labile, tho she may seems evil at times, she is neither good or bad. One could most likely say she’s very ‘sick’ at times. Absolutely delusional. If I had to categorize her, I’d say she’s “chaotic good”.
