I may be biased but that one Deluca cafe scene...? Or another you think we'll like!

I am also biased for the coffeehouse scene. >.>

You’re wondering how, he asked me—while his breath was busy ordering our coffee—and that smile never wavered, silver, treasure. We are reflected in all but silver.

Then how, I checked. I checked the mirrors in the ship, in the manor, I did, every one I did, hoping to see myself…see what he had made me.

La Lune Royale is a magnificent vessel, fitted with all the finest delights my Mistress could afford, he explained, nodding to the man behind the bar, “My partner here is new to the city, and I think your café has enchanted him.”

The man nodded, smiling at the compliment, and went about preparing our coffees. While I continued to stare at my face, how all the little lines I had were smoothed away, my eyes burned a richer brown—almost red, it bothered me, that. Yet not so much as my ears. Lucient tugged me from the mirror, toward a booth, and I allowed it, but I fiddled with my ears. I knew they’d changed, felt they were different, and his were a tad pointed so I expected it. But it was strange to see.

“You’re still beautiful,” he assured, sitting across from me in the booth and trying to take my hands across the table, “More, perhaps.”

“Did you know?” I kept fiddling with my ears, the points were small—unnoticed by most—but they were different enough to alarm, to make me other. Never mind the teeth, which I couldn’t check with all the eyes in the room.

Lucient smiled as he managed to get my hands, “Yes, treasure, I knew. But we had no mirrors to prove it, and, to be perfectly honest…I thought you’d catch your face in the water.”

“Instead I had to wait until you invited me to a coffeehouse halfway across the continent,” I sighed, laying my head back on the cushioned bench.

And Lucient took his hands from mine, adapting a chill snap to his tone, “Café, and you can’t be upset at me about this. You’re the one who made assumptions.”

I didn’t wonder it in any manner he could hear, but I did wonder if he was trying to pick a fight, and played along out of…well, pedantic need perhaps, “Coffeehouse, and I am allowed to be upset,” he was smiling, and it inflamed me, burning all too easily with the sun throbbing its heat in my veins, still I looked around, still I leaned closer as I hissed, “You knew what I assumed when I looked in that fottuto mirror, and you said nothing against it.”

He leaned as well, close enough to kiss across the table if he chose, but he only whispered, “Café, we are in a café and there was no reason to correct you at the time, treasure, because once again, I had no mirrors to prove my assurances.”

“Your word would have been enough,” I said through a smile, accepting the tight grip he took of my hands before I snipped, “and we’re in a coffeehouse.”

Tighter that grip and I matched it, chuckling at the crease in his forehead at my greater strength, still he hissed, “Café.”

“Coffeehouse,” I did not hiss, smile too comfortable with how it wrinkled him.

“You want me to cause a scene, don’t you, right here in the middle of this café?” He tried to coo, I think, but it came out more of a snarl.

And I adored it, “Depends, my dream, what sort of scene are you planning to cause in this coffeehouse?”

Our coffee arrived in time for us to startle the young man who brought it, but he spilled nothing but a spoon from the tray as he caught the scene. Lucient released my hands to take my jacket in both of his and nearly yanked me across the smooth wooden tabletop to shove his tongue down my throat. I heard a few gasps and murmurs before the debates and lectures returned to fill the second of stunned quiet.

So I grabbed his jacket right back and fell into those icy lips as all of Lucient’s irritation was forced into me through the veritable war his tongue waged on mine.

That was the sort of scene he always meant. It was his manner of dealing with any emotion he didn’t care for. He didn’t seem to like feeling, or perhaps…perhaps he simply lacked experience being allowed to—he would, eventually, learn—and I took advantage of it, stoked it. And I would again; being the wretched thing I was, so eager for his touch, I would do it far more than I should be so comfortable sharing.

The young man that brought our coffees set the tray down, still gawking at us and, in a terror-quiet voice said, “We call it a ‘penny university’.”

We remained locked in our kiss, but both of us slid our eyes to glare at the poor boy, withering him before he backed away from the table—then ran.
