My personal headcanon is that Joel has referred to himself as "dad" to Ellie once. She had a nightmare, probably post-all the David shit, and he woke her up to stop the nightmare and was trying to comfort her. He just slipped into dad mode and started going "it's okay, you're safe now, you're alright, dad's here, you're safe" while she clung to him - which is exactly what he'd always say to Sarah when she'd go to his room in the middle of the night after a nightmare. He probably never even realized he said that and Ellie was still too panicked yet to notice that slip up.

I love this so much. It's such a poignant and heartbreaking moment that fits perfectly with their characters and relationship. The image of Joel, who has spent so much of the story grappling with his inability to protect his daughter, instinctively falling back on the same words and gestures of comfort he used with Sarah... it's just devastating. And the fact that it slips out so naturally, without him even realizing it, speaks to how deeply ingrained that paternal instinct is for him.

It must be so confusing and overwhelming for Ellie in that moment—she's already in a vulnerable state after the nightmare, and then she hears Joel refer to himself as "dad". Even if she's still too panicked to fully register it, it's the kind of thing that would linger in the back of her mind afterwards. Maybe she brushes it off as just a weird slip of the tongue in the heat of the moment... but it still plants this seed of an idea that Joel is more than just her older companion. That he sees her as a daughter figure, even if he's never explicitly said it.

i cant get over the ball being so CLEARLY all for crowley i can't get over aziraphale trying to woo him with a WHOLE FUCKING BALL because that's what he knows that's what romance IS for him because he's been wanting to dance with crowley ever since dancing was invented and he's so stuck in time with the way he dresses and talks and he still thinks a dance is the high of romance AND HE MADE A WHOLE ENTIRE FUCKING BALL FOR CROWLEY JUST SO HE COULD DANCE WITH HIM like now it's so fucking obvious he gave away his BOOKS without a second thought and it was all for crowley he organised a whole JANE AUSTEN THEME BALL just so he could have an excuse to finally dance with the love of his life and i can't get over this i'm shaking my fists and pacing up and down he did not give a single fuck about anything other than dancing with crowley and HE BARELY TOUCHED OTHER PEOPLE'S HANDS WHILE HIS WHOLE FUCKING PALM WAS PRESSED TO CROWLEY'S AND i need to lie down
