waow 2024 is almost dead!!! gone too soon. feels like it’s been a big year for me art-wise for many reasons, BUT. i’m making 2025 bigger.... hopefully....i’ve made some art goals for next year which i won’t explain in detail but they boil down to 1) do more studies 2) tackle my weaknesses (backgrounds, dynamic poses/angles, uhhh lots of stuff i am a one trick pony right now) 3) get into drawing comics, all of which are in preparation for 4) take my story ideas more seriously and get started on one of the many graphic novels living in my head. i have one in mind i HAVE to complete in my lifetime or i will die, but firstly i’m gonna mess around with some little standalone svanhildr comics perhaps. goat fans rejoice. 

anyway i wasn’t meant to ramble so i’ll just say THANK YOU for the support as always!!! i’m very flattered all of these have more than 1000 notes.....crazy. thank you. muah

So I watched the THK cast reaction/interview with English subs (credit: nellyyangyang on twitter), and...

They're so desperately trying to clarify that it's a romantic comedy ya'll. The number of times they keep saying "it's easy to swallow, no need to chew" and "you can watch without thinking" and "it's really simple". I wonder if this is pre-emptive because they can see online how many people are taking the trailer the wrong way and they don't want to get the backlash of disappointed fans?

Maybe the colours and aesthetic of the trailer is making people think it'll be serious? But like... ok has anyone else seen the 1996 Leonardo DiCaprio movie Romeo + Juliet? I feel like this is in the same vein where its simultaneously shot incredibly seriously with a very specific aesthetic and vibe, but also completely irreverent and satirical, but like earnestly so. (Which, ngl, if it IS that would be SO awesome; Romeo + Juliet is iconic for being so unhinged in the best way.)

Dylan stopped pacing in the middle of the room, his fists clenched, as if struggling with some secret of his own.

"Thank you for trusting me, Alek." The boy looked at the floor. "I haven't always trusted you. Not with everything."

Alek pulled himself up from the chair and walked closer, resting his hands on the boy's shoulders. "You know you can, Dylan."

"Aye, I suppose... and there's something I should tell you, but you have to swear not to tell anyone else. Not Lilit, not the committee, no one."

"I'll always keep your secrets, Dylan."

The boy nodded slowly. "This one's a bit trickier than most."

He fell silent again, the pause stretching out.

"It's about your mission here, isn't it?"

Dylan let out a slow sigh, a sound of relief and exhaustion. "Aye. I suppose it is."

LOTS to say about this bit in particular

1. I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is the best place Dylan could have said anything, and the last opportunity he had to do so without making Alek feel like Dylan doesn't trust him.

2. Alek's repeated use of "Dylan" makes this harder. That's a huge part of the secret, the name, and Alek keeps using it. Dylan is repeatedly reminded that the version of him that lives in Alek's head is not an accurate one, and he has to decide if he's willing to correct that. (this is hard to talk about clearly with my decision to keep using Dylan and he/him pronouns during Alek's chapters but I am sticking to my guns)

3a. AND THEN ALEK GIVES HIM AN OUT. Dylan could have a hard conversation about identity and social expectations and trust that could end up with his friend rejecting him-- or he could talk about his adventures and being a soldier. We know Dylan. Dylan will almost always deflect so he doesn't have to experience a big scary uncomfortable emotion. Of course he's going to take the out.

3b. Once again we have that gender dichotomy of girl vs. soldier. The truth here is equivalent to the messy, embarrassing feelings that he's been trying to squash (girl). The mission is equivalent to the professionalism and confidence and strength that Dylan's been trying to project whenever his feelings get annoying (soldier).
