I'm rewatching the first few episodes of Lower Decks s5 again and the first one is just... so much. There's just so much.

First of all, D'vana Tendi my beloved

SECOND of all, Naomi Wildman joke, 15/10 I love her

And Becky Freeman? Loving the fact that Mariner is absolutely unhinged and wildly fucked up in every universe. Hate that for her, love that for us. Plus the fact that her personality is still the same and is wildly at odds with her rigid Starfleet persona is absolutely *chef's kiss* Stomping into the cargo bay yelling, "What in the Kzinti fuck is going on here?!" was so on brand.

I REALLY loved that they didn't suddenly write in Becky as this barely alternate (as they stated flat out) character who goes against what Mariner wants and ends up happy about it, but rather reinforced what Mariner has been saying for FOUR SEASONS. "I'm not going to cover up my insecurity by becoming a screaming despot" was hilarious and the kind of line that nails what this show does well: comedy as a carrier for deep issues and major character development.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ONE (1) thing I wanted from this final season was to find out the story behind Mariner's name AND THEY GAVE US THAT 🙌🏻 and they also gave us Freeman stumbling over Becky's name because she's so used to saying "Mariner" which hurt me actually

King Billups? Mullet Ransom? RikerBeard!Boimler doing the Riker chair move and supporting Mariner even though he literally doesn't know her and Becky is a total dick? Amazing

AND T'LYN'S JOKE oh my god

Honestly Tawny Newsome was the absolute MVP of that episode. The little differences between Beckett and Becky in just the voice acting alone was so, so good. Anybody who knows me knows I LOVE anything where there's alternate versions of characters and this nailed it for me.

The thing that's driving me nuts though? DID ALT T'ANA HAVE HER WHOLE TAIL?????

This season has been so good already, and it's making me extra emotional about it ending. Like, we deserve to see the full arc of Boimler's weird little mustache. And the Sequoia!!! And the Ransom head "strange energies" episode had nothing on that strange energy in whatever the fuck that was with Mariner's com badge in ep 2

I cannot express enough that if your reaction, as a hobby artist, to not getting that many notes on your art is to say "maybe I should just stop doing art altogether" you need to stop posting art to tumblr

not necessarily forever, not even for long, but just stop putting your art on here and start doing it for you again, remember why you enjoyed doing art in the first place and stop relying on the attention of faceless people on the internet for your enjoyment of your hard work

believe me, I get it, nothing crushes the artistic soul quite like labouring for hours on a piece only for it to get like 10 notes, so you need to find your own source of joy in the act of creation and a lot of the time that means making art and not showing it to anybody

Sorry to be 911 critical during a positivity event but it really is such a poor writing decision for Madney’s second baby, their first since they got married, to be an accident. They should have decided together that having a child was worth the risk instead of having fate decide for them. Maddie’s story has always been about her own agency and taking her own life back so the ability for her choose to have a second child would have been so much more powerful than the contrived drama of her coaxing Chimney into giving her permission to have it. It just feels like a major misstep out of line with where Maddie and Chimney should be at this point.
