"if confidence could keep you alive Geoffrey would still be here"
Brennan, how about you just rip my heart out with your bare hands instead because I think it would be less painful than that line

The last volume of The Robots is out this week. I am looking forward to it because I love the Chenka sisters. I know Liv will be okay because she appears afterwards with the eighth doctor, but given the end of the last volume Tula is in serious danger. If she does not survive I will be Unhappy.

Thinking about this again,
Thinking about Tula and the exhaustion, about how she ended up embracing the cold after fighting to live and live for her children, even though her father was dead, her siblings were dead, her husband was dead.
All she had was her children left, her love for them, her responsibility. And she knew what it was like to grow up with the burden of your dead father at the hands of your mother. You saw it crush your own mother and you decided that you would be different.
But as she lay in the cold, eyes flickering shut and the life drifting away from her, Tula thinks about how peaceful it is. How nice rest is, finally. But that stubborn, unending love of her two children brings Tula back to life. She is the husk of an animal, she died years ago, but she couldn't be more alive. She knows what she needs to do and that, she will do
Oh there is so so much to say about the ending of Burrow’s End but Tula’s lined up a shot right into the core of my being so;
She’s back in the fields where she found her husband, dead, lifeless, cold. It’s winter and the snow has piled up so high and she runs around after the terrifying sounds of lightning in a clear nights sky.
It’s Blue and icy when she falls asleep, oh so tired and she hadn’t even begun to process the grief. Her mother’s response: “Where were you?” to a “Geoffrey’s dead”. She‘s a mother of two. She gives into her exhaustion. She sleeps. Everything is so quiet in the cold, the Blue.
And a few years later, neither dead nor alive but with a renewed sense of hope and peace, things Tula has never given herself space to feel after her husband’s death, she walks to his resting place and talks about their children. She talks about accomplishments, hopes, about dreams.
“I can’t wait to find out what’s gonna happen tomorrow”, she says. She means it.
(and Brennan as the player breaks just the tiniest bit)
Tula finds softness, she finds comfort. The cold, the Blue melts under spring’s warmth and the grass below finally drinks. She is happy.

In rewatching the season, I'm noticing how clever Aabria and Brennan were in crafting Tula's story. How well thought out everything was.
Specifically, the bear. It's been mentioned so many times before, but with the context of the completed season, I cannot help but be in awe at the skilful storytelling at display here. The way in which the Blue is described to appear wrong only in reference to Tula and her heart, the way in which Tula talks about curiosity and and having experienced knowing someone who died because of it. Of how Aabria describes to Izzy how Tula looks when she heals the bear, of how Aabria specifically points out that Tula recognises the commonalities between herself and the bear. These breadcrumbs that mean little in the beginning, that tell everything at the end. It's amazing, stunning, masterful storytelling. I am in awe.

okay but do you understand? tula is dead. she’s been dead since the minute her husband died. like the bear, she’s a walking corpse, held together by strings and forces beyond her control. she is alive for her children. she has to be. she has no choice. she would not choose differently. but a scaffold is also a prison, if you look out instead of in.

Riz is getting mindcontrolled next episode and I already know it’s going to be devastating. Riz, who is so dedicated to his friends, who has shaped his entire life around supporting them.
Do you think he’ll finally feel at peace, even if only for a moment? Will he find out what it’s like to take care of only yourself? When he snaps out of it, will the stress rush back? And will it be harder to bear now that he knows what it’s like to breathe without it?

Anybody ever have a rough time watching D20 because Brennan does parenting in such a specific and painful way for people who have complicated relationships/feelings with their parents? No? Just me?

i know there are only like five of us but i feel like garth stans really don't talk enough about how left out he feels with the titans. dick and wally are Best Friends. donna and roy are on and off again. dick and donna are too much to explain. on average, roy is close with at least one of dick's siblings. dick donna and wally all go on to be in the new teen titans. garth isn't Close with any other titans but the originals
and it's this thing where,,, it's not his Fault yknow? he's not mean or spiteful or creepy or anything that would warrant them not liking him as much. he joins in on their jokes, he risks his life, he shares his feelings, he does everything that he knows friends do. but just the virtue of him being atlantean and them being land dwellers ruins everything. he Can't spend more time with them, he doesn't understand their culture, he will always choose atlantis.
they'll always be his friends but he can never truly be with them or form deeper bonds. he'll always be the last one to know what's going on, the last one they call, a complete shadow and afterthought.
and sure there's a part of him that knows this, that feels bitter and lonely. but he can't even be that mad at them because he does the same thing. the titans are never his first thought, he never calls them first, he doesn't reach out and ask if they're okay, they're always the last ones to know what happened to him. the titans are such a huge part of his life but they're barely in it.
there's just something so inherently lonely about garth that i feel most dc writers don't understand. they just don't get it. they don't get what it's like for this boy who was all alone, never had parents or a family, suddenly being taken in and having to act like he knows how to be a son, a friend, a partner. meeting kids his own age and wanting to bond with them so bad, having to watch as they all get closer to each other and leave him behind, not being able to do anything about it. never being taken seriously, always the last choice... garth man.....
