Just finished reading Pez Dispenser Debris (I don’t even go there but I am fueled by Wiki articles and a love for your storytelling) and first of all—amazing!!! 10/10, I think I need to watch this series now. 

Second, I  noticed that (while very much distinct) Yuuta & Izuku have a lot of similarities in the voice you gave them—maybe it’s the constant panic attacks or perhaps both of  them placing blame for everything squarely on their own shoulders, but ough it makes for the perfect blend of gut-punching angst. I’d love to hear any ramblings you currently have about either of them. I am currently obsessed with both of them now and am placing the blame on you <3

I’m gonna pretty heavily discuss some spoilers for my hero academia in this. I figured that was okay since you’d already read my fanfic and the wiki so the cat is out of the metaphorical bag. That being said, maybe wait to read this answer if you want to not be spoiled for more details in my hero.

Yuuta and Izuku absolutely have the most similar voices out of all of my narrators and it is 90% because they are both completely insane and in violent need of a Xanax and a nice soothing cup of chamomile tea. God I love them both so much. They should each be heavily medicated.

My hero academia is a pretty great watch through the Shie Hassaikai arc. The concept is entertaining, the characters are GREAT, and the world building is really cool.

Then the story sort of. Went to shit.

I tried for a while after that, but eventually had to stop watching. My friends and I have a group chat named “horikoshi just call us” because we got so despondent at the writing decisions after that arc.

Horikoshi. If you’re out there. If you’re reading this. Just call us. We just want to help.

That being said, my love for the characters maintains its death grip on me. I simply adore them. They’re delights.

Yuuta and Izuku, on their face, have a lot of similarities as protagonists. The aforementioned insanity and need of Xanax, of course, but the skeleton of the stories has a lot of common touchstones and themes, like:

Both characters have some kind of history with suicidal ideation or tendencies. In the second scene of JJK0, it’s established that Yuuta canonically tried to kill himself. In the first episode of BNHA, Izuku is told to kill himself by his bullies, in an act which appears to be common to izuku’s life, and the only reason Izuku comes up with to not do it is “then you’d get in trouble for telling me to do it.”

Both characters have severe self worth issues. Yuuta’s looking for a reason to be alive at the start of JJK0. He’s looking for a right to be alive. In a way, Izuku is too at the start of BNHA. At the open of action, he is told by everyone in his life that he is useless. His nickname is “Deku,” which uses some of the same kanji as “Dekunobo,” meaning blockhead. The most direct translation were given is that this is a way of calling him useless. He’s the powerless member of a society choked with superpower, and he’s been told his entire life that he can do nothing, that his dreams are pointless, and that he’s a burden who would be better off dead.

They’re both saddled with power they can’t fully control. Yuuta with Rika, and Izuku with One for All, a transferable power that’s too strong to be contained in his body.

They both have a close relationship with an impossibly strong mentor that they are implied to be the successor of. Yuuta with Gojo, as he’s second only to Gojo in the modern age, and Izuku with All Might (aka Toshinori Yaga), who he is more literally taking on the mantle of One for All from.

They both are chugging that Loving Their Friends Juice and have tried to kill grown men with their bare hands as a result

That all being said, they could not be more different characters and honestly aren’t all that similar.

I have this sort of lasting grievance with literary analysis when people take a list of common plot points or events and use them to make the argument that characters are similar or parallel one another. Like, that’s all facial. The real question is how do they substantively handle those events. How do their story arcs treat those things? How does their character react to them?

Yuuta and Izuku’s actual substantive characters don’t really react to those events in the same way at all. The analysis could go on all day in this respect, really, but the biggest difference is how their respective story arcs treat the cornerstone of their original conflicts.

Yuuta opens action with Rika as the cornerstone of his conflict. She’s who he wants to free, she’s who he’s chained to, and it’s her protection of him that makes him think he deserves to die. Izuku’s cornerstone, meanwhile, is his own Quirklessness. He desperately wants to be a hero, and everyone in his life tells him he can’t be because he is Quirkless. He’s useless because he’s Quirkless. He should kill himself because he’s Quirkless. He’s a burden and always will be because he’s Quirkless.

And while Yuuta’s arc reconciles him with his cornerstone, Izuku’s forgoes it entirely.

The story just. Forgets. That he’s Quirkless. They stop talking about it. It never comes up again. It doesn’t make any real big impact on his character or decisions. It’s one of my biggest axes to grind with how the story developed, and it’s actually one of the biggest reasons why I wrote pez dispenser debris.

Pez dispenser debris was actually inspired by this one piece of my hero academia art where Izuku is hugging his younger self. I don’t know if it was official art or fan art, and I have no idea where it is or where to find it because by god have I tried so I can find it and link it for credit/to boost it. I saw it literally years ago, thought “oh that’s cool,” wrote the original first scene of the fic (where Midoriya stops the bus and is hit by the Quirk), wasn’t feeling it, got distracted by other projects, went to law school, graduated law school, signed up to take the bar exam, and was suddenly electrified in the last fucking month of studying with this fugue state of feverish artistic inspiration. I have never written so easily or so compulsively in my life. I’d write for eight unbroken hours and it would be fucking magic every time. It was like an addiction. I was writhing with a need to create and had so much fucking anxiety about the test I was not studying for instead. The words could not be restrained.

Anyway I taught myself three subjects on the plane ride to the state I was taking it in and passed anyway so it’s fine we’re fine

The moral of the story is that this story has been cooking long enough for me to get two more diplomas than I had when I started it and I have no idea where to find that fucking piece of art that inspired it, but if I find it, I’ll reblog it so y’all can see it too.

The thing is, the narrative sort of forcibly excluding Izuku’s past as Quirkless would make total sense to me if it was used as something Izuku himself was doing.

Izuku necessarily had to hide the truth of his former Quirkless status at the start of action—he needed to keep the secret of One for All. Like, he could not let people find out that a Quirk was transferrable, but you know, just the most powerful one, and also he had it, please come torture it out of him.

But as the narrative goes on, that rationale becomes less important. He has people he can trust with it. And yeah, eventually One for All becomes more known, but the discussion is all about him being all might’s successor. Him being Quirkless and how that affected him and still affects him isn’t really discussed or treated as important. And Izuku doesn’t act like it’s important to him either. He never really thinks about it.

And I just hated that. Like. He spent almost his entire life as a member of society who was spit on. He’s had a Quirk for less than a year. How are his experiences with Quirklessness not important to how he interacts with the world?

The other point of contention I had was Mirio.

Mirio is this superstar of a senpai who takes Izuku under his wing. He has an extremely powerful quirk that’s only as effective as it is because he put in the work and learned how to handle it. He’s a perfect, eternally smiling paragon of heroism. He’s flagged early as the one out of everyone, including heroes with established careers, who is most likely to replace All Might.

He’s also the one who was supposed to get One for All.

His mentor had found him and trained him to be All Might’s successor. Before All Might could meet him, however, he found this feral raccoon child in a sewer and said “oh my god I can’t not offer him incomprehensible power within the first three hours of meeting him” and tripped face first into fatherhood.

During a rescue mission, Mirio loses his Quirk in a way that’s borderline irreversible. There’s no known cure, and the only possible one is dependent on a little girl learning how to control an extremely volatile and dangerous quirk and using it in a way she never has before.

So surely, they’re going to commit to that writing decision, right? He’s Quirkless. We’re bringing back having Quirkless characters. It’s going to be this sick as hell juxtaposition between Izuku and Mirio. We are at least going to force Izuku to reflect on his own times as Quirkless or have some kind of discussion about how Mirio is treated differently now that he is Quirkless.

But no. He gets his Quirk back by the next season. We don’t talk about it much. It’s more of a minor inconvenience than anything.

It’s almost as if the show accepted as an actual rule that you couldn’t be a hero without a Quirk. And then just. Forgot. Everything it had to do with its literal protagonist.

Anyway, I hated it.

In contrast, I fucking loved how yuuta’s storyline with Rika ends. That scene where Yuuta’s turning back to Rika, thanking her for loving him, telling him they can die together? I’m obsessed with it. I recently moved across the country and listened to that theme song on loop during the drive.

Yuuta and Rika’s love was unhealthy. They hurt each other. But it wasn’t malicious.

They just didn’t know how to love each other in a way that didn’t hurt.

They were in shit circumstances. But the love was there.

Yuuta felt guilty for Rika’s love for him and his for her almost the entire narrative. He thought he cursed her with his love. He wanted to kill himself because of how she hurt people out of love for him. It’s why I have moments in sea glass gardens where Yuuta talks about begging Rika to stop loving him—he didn’t know why love had to hurt so goddamn bad, and he’s sorry for that, he really is. He wishes he was better at it than he was.

At the end of JJK0, Yuuta truly is the last person who remembers Rika as she was and still loves her for who she is. He’s faced with Geto, who wants to use her as a weapon. Everyone treats her as a threat or a tool, except for Yuuta.

Like. Just that moment. Of loving someone so genuinely, and being the last one who does, and knowing that everyone else will just use them. I’m obsessed with it.

Yuuta reconciles with his love for Rika and her love for him, and they’re both finally freed. It’s this perfect moment of acceptance that I adore. He comes to terms with his past. It doesn’t hurt him so much anymore.

I wrote pez dispenser debris to sort of force Izuku to have that kind of reconciliation. As it is, he hasn’t reconciled with his own Quirklessness and how that affected him. I wanted to give him something he couldn’t physically escape and had to face.

-if you’re too cold or too hot, he’ll use his quirk to help with that.

-also, it’s canon that he’s usually very cold himself, but can’t regulate his fire well enough to be a good temperature so he deals with it. So cuddles are a must to keep him warm

-he’s so insecure about it his scar, he thinks it makes him ugly and unlovable (canon) so he needs constant reassurance

-poor bae gets night terrors

-takes you to all the new restaurants in town. You guys have been every single one at least once

-make homemade (cold) soba for him or else *_*

-not that it matters to him, but Endeavor does not approve of him dating, so be prepared for arguments. You guys will win in the end though

Fun fact: Izuku and Yoichi have the same eye color.

I mean, it's not weird that some characters have the same eye color (for example, Miс in the anime also has green eyes), but Izuku and Yoichi's eyes are literally the same shade of green!

In fact, the shades of their eyes are slightly different in this picture, but I'm pretty sure it's due to the different drawing style of their eyes and the lighting because these frames are from different anime episodes. You may not even notice the difference in color the first time.

I wonder why they have the same eye color. Studio Bones changed the eye color of some characters in the anime (for example, changing Iida's red eyes to blue), but I doubt that they would arbitrarily make Yoichi's eye color exactly like Izuku's. Did Horikoshi really ask Bones to do this? Did the animators ask Horikoshi what color eyes they should make for Yoichi, and Horikoshi told them to make Yoichi's eyes the same color as Izuku's? Why? What's the point of this?

Perhaps it's just a matter of symbolism, as was the case, for example, with Bakugo and Kudo. Horikoshi made Bakugo look very similar to Kudo to show that Bakugo is the embodiment of Kudo's will in the battle against AFO. So perhaps Yoichi and Izuku's eye color being the same is also to show that Izuku carries Yoichi's will.

However, I can't help but wonder if there was another reason for giving these two characters the same eye color. After all, we all know about the DFO theory, and since AFO's brother has green eyes, that means AFO has green eye color in his genes, which could be passed on to potential children.

Although, I ask you not to take my reasoning too seriously, because it is based on what we saw in the anime, and the anime is not the original source. It's still an interesting detail, though, and I'd like to see it play into the story in one way or another.

No one argues with this; he's literally your personal chef.

He'll always make sure you eat well, whether you're a big eater or not.

This damn guy will literally stuff your stomach and cook for you anytime.

You can wake him up even at 2 a.m., and he won't mind, like:

"Hey, Katsu... I'm feeling kinda hungry... so-"

"Shut up, I already know."

And boom, he'll get up to cook a delicious meal for you and make sure you go to sleep feeling full.

He also loves styling your hair, no matter the type.

Straight, wavy, curly, it doesn't matter.

Just tell him how you want your hair, and he'll do it professionally.

He does most of the chores for you, like cooking, washing dishes, doing laundry, etc.

He absolutely hates seeing you tired or exhausted; he sees himself strong enough to do everything.

"You weren't created for exhaustion, not even your beautiful ass deserves to be tired from sitting."

Another reason he always holds you in his arms when you're alone together.

He always brings snacks for you at school.

At the end of each class, he turns around to give you candy or chocolate to keep you energized.

(He completely refuses to admit he brought them for you, always saying he got them by chance.)

When you're sitting in the dorm with others, he lets you rest your head on his shoulder if you're tired.

He absolutely doesn't let you go downstairs; he always carries you bridal style while going down while you're in his arms.

His excuse is that you're too foolish and will definitely trip and fall and hurt yourself.

Did I mention he's your guard dog?

Wherever you are, he walks behind you and gives death glares to anyone who dares to stare at you.

He also makes sure every day that he's the first person to say good morning or goodnight to you, whether in person or through messages.

He's not a big person with words, but he makes sure to say "I love you" enough times because he knows it makes you happy.

Believe me, he's just there for your happiness (I would die for this man).

This boy is the epitome of sweetness.

He's not just a green flag, he's the whole forest.

One thing I'm sure of is that he'll take notes for you during classes.

Even if you've already taken your own notes, he doesn't mind.

He still brings your notebooks and edits your notes to make them look like his own.

If you ask him why he does this, he simply replies:

He just loves being the reason behind your intellectual growth and knowing that he's helping you.

Every night, literally every night, he braids your hair.

Because he simply read that braiding hair before bed helps keep it healthy.

Speaking of nighttime, he takes you for walks at night when everyone else is asleep and lies on the grass to watch the sky just because you told him you love seeing the stars.

He's literally the kind of gentleman who lays his jacket over a puddle of water for you to walk on so you don't get wet.

He has a sixth sense about you, so for example, whenever something bad happens to you, he's already there to fix it.

He's 100% ready to defend you against anyone and doesn't feel embarrassed to stand up to them either.

He carries your bag for you on the way to school and back to the dorm, insisting on it even when you say it's okay.

He loves sharing his food with you; he always does.

No matter what it is, he always makes sure you take at least a bite of it.

"I don't taste the food's flavor until I share it with you."

He always keeps your hands intertwined and makes sure you're close to him, especially in crowds.

Every day, he makes sure to kiss you on the cheek and tell you how perfect you are, how lucky he is to have you, and how much he loves you.

This guy is literally like a character from books.

He has a top-notch degree in princess treatment.

He buys you anything you want, no matter what.

Even if it's a car plated with gold, he'll always fulfill your desires.

He flirts with you, but in poetic ways.

For example, he reads a love quote or a poem and makes sure to dedicate it to you.

Either he writes it for you on a paper and places it on your desk in your room before you wake up, or he whispers it in your ear just to drive you crazy.

He loves seeing you shy and flustered.

He also buys you books, a lot of them.

The reason for that is your talk about a story or a novel.

Be sure that by tomorrow he'll present you with the entire book series along with a red rose.

"Shoto! You didn't have to do that!"

"If my girl desires something, she gets it."

He lets you do anything to him literally.

Braiding his hair, putting makeup on him, dressing him up as you wish... etc.

Just say the word, and he's like, "Yes, ma'am"

(Once you put your daily makeup on him, and literally you cried because he looked more beautiful than you by miles.)

This man is literally carrying your bags when he takes you shopping.

And he doesn't complain; it gives him a sense that he's your strong man.

He also allows you to try makeup on the back of his hand.

(He's as pale as hell.)

He carries you on his back if you feel tired from walking.

Or in other words, if he feels it, which means he always carries you on his back.

So you won't tire from something as silly as walking.

He knows that everyone is looking at both of you, but does he care? Of course not.

(I feel like he's read "The Art of Indifference" at least 100 times.)

He's the kind of guy who allows you to wear anything you want.

You might come to him not sure about your clothes, and he simply shrugs in indifference.

"Wear whatever you want; I can fight."

(But not too revealing because you won't get away with it.)

One of his greatest features is that he uses his quirk to either warm you up or cool you down according to the weather.

He always gives you his jacket even without you asking because he knows that his scent calms you down and also ensures that you're warm.

Like the others, he makes sure you eat well and goes crazy if he knows you haven't.

(I think this is an Asian thing...)

This might seem gross, but on the contrary, it's not the case for him, but he allows you to spit out the food you didn't like on his hand.

He tells you to do it in the most poetic expression ever.

He hugs you a lot, first because he loves being close to you and secondly to stick his scent to you, so people can smell you and know that you're his

(he has a special scent so..)

When he gets jealous

A/n: writers block is so bad and I genuinely wanna write😭 I hope this makes up for the zero activity. But fr I genuinely don't know what this is lmao.

There were three things Izuku did to make sure everyone knew you were his.

Izuku would always get more clingy whenever he was jealous.

He trusted you with every fiber in his being. He just didn't trust the guys who would stare at you as if you were a five course meal, as if you were only an object to own. He hated those types of men.

So when he noticed how you seemed slightly uncomfortable with how the boy was looking at you, he quiete literally swept you off your feet and flew away with you cradled in his arms.

You were perplexed by the sudden action, arms flying around his neck as he used his quirk to fly away. The greenette gave you a sweet grin, holding you tightly against him as you thanked him for helping you; a cute blush on your cheeks that made his grin wider and his heart race even more.

You'd think that once you reached the dorms, he would put you down, but he didn't. Instead, he carried you bridal style to his dorm to hang out.

Hanging out with Izuku was a normal thing. But him refusing to let you go while clinging onto you like a koala? That didn't happen very often.

You sighed, a small smile on your face as Izuku rambled about his hero training with All Might while sitting on your lap. You would think that the gender roles would normally be reversed, but the green-haired boy didn't give a single fuck. He got to be in your personal space and was making sure you couldn't move from your spot by pinning you with his weight.

But you didn't really care that much, he was like a heavy teddy bear and you were really comfortable in your spot on his bed.

The next few days consisted of him holding your hand, giving you I love you so much please marry me platonic kisses on the cheek, forehead, and hands. He would literally become your backpack as you carried him around the entire day. Piggyback rides were normal between you two, anyway.

Overall Izuku would initiate more physical touch in hopes of being able to be closer to you.

Another thing Izuku likes to do when he gets jealous is by having you wear his clothes and colors.

It could be wearing matching bracelets with your favorite colors, borrowing his All Might themed shirts and hoodies, or it could even be him stealing your shirts, too. The last one always made you giggle because of how much your best friend liked your fashion taste.

It totally wasn't because he was desperately in love with you and wanted to be seen as yours.

There was another tactic Izuku liked to use, and it was more of a fun game, really. He would paint different shades of green onto your skin.

You both would have a great time, trying to paint on each other's skin while giggling and feeling ticklish by the brush and paint. You would do flowers, mini All Might faces, and you once painted a giraffe on Izuku's back.

The both of you would burst into fits of laughter the entire time, and Izuku decided to paint his name onto your arms. His first name on your left bicep, and his last name on your right. The greenette cackled and blushed when you flexed your arms at his finished work.

These two things were very sweet and endearing, showing how much Izuku cared for you and how he didn't want any other man to think they had a chance. They both worked well and made other guys back off, but when they didn't work, well...

Izuku had to resort to the third way. And that was only when a guy was starting to really piss him off.

We all know how observant Izuku is, and how he writes down everything in his journals to learn more about something. Izuku had somewhat a bad habit of being obsessive, and whenever you were involved,

Izuku made sure that everyone knew what was his.

You would never be thought of as an object or thing to Izuku, but the way he slammed a man onto the concrete floor when he tried to touch you, would seem otherwise.

Emerald eyes were wide with fury, the energy of One For All crackling around him. The man on the floor gasped for air, feeling threatened by the supposed savior of the Paranormal Liberation war.

Blood was dripping from the greenette's knuckles, staring down codly at the scum at his feet. The scum who had the guts to try and take advantage of you.

Izuku sneered in disgust, kicking the man in the gut as he flew back, wincing in pain as he was in shock.

"I'll make sure you won't touch her ever again." Izuku rasped, a crazed smile on his face as he knelt down to the man cowering in fear.

After the war, not only has he almost lost his quirk, Kacchan, his friends, he almost lost you. The doctors said you almost didn't make it, and something in Izuku just snapped.

The green-haired boy began to hyperventilate, panicking at the thought of living in a world without you, in a world where you weren't his.

And some asshole thought he could take advantage of you?

Izuku laughed, crazily as he looked borderline insane to the bloodied man on the floor. The man froze, shivering in fear when he made eye contact with the greenette. There was a glint in those cold emerald eyes, something feral as Izuku stood up, a smile no longer on his face as he clenched his fists. The energy of One For All becoming more powerful as he raised his fist.

Midoriya Izuku would die for anyone, but he would only kill for the people he loved. You were on the top of that list.

Blood-curling screams were heard in that dark alleyway as Izuku beat the man to death, his fists coated in blood as there was a psychopathic look in his eye the entire time.

Love was a powerful emotion.

"Hey, Izuku! I didn't know you would be back so early!" You chirped, going on to hug your best friend, wrapping your arms around his neck as he giggles, giving you the sweetest smile with hearts in his eyes.

Izuku relaxes into the hug, wrapping his arms around you tightly as he buries his face into your neck; sighing as he inhales your comforting scent. The one he's secretly addicted to.

"Yeah, I thought it would take longer because of the traffic, but I'm glad I got those... errands done tonight." Izuku mumbles, a cold glint in his eyes as he stares at the floor, a grin growing on his lips at the memory of dumping the body into someplace where nobody would care to look.

Izuku pulled away a bit, flashing you a lovesick smile as his pupils seemed to have hearts in them when you looked at him. Scarred hands cup your cheeks as you smile and giggle when he presses platonic kisses all over your face.

"Izu! Cut it o-out!" You laugh, feeling the pads of his fingers tickle your neck, leaving you gasping for air but leaving you with the biggest smile.

He could feel his heart leap at the sight.

The green-haired boy giggles, pulling back as he grabs your hand and leads you towards the couch to watch a movie.

Izuku had three ways to deal with jealously, but you were always the person that made him feel better afterwards.

With that recent nejire post you made combined with that ask a while back about “designated girl group” I’m now trying to manifest a fascinating alternate universe where the divisions were completely different among students who go with the big three for this arc. If you had to rearrange the overhaul arc such that no canon 1A-big three internship pairing happened, who would you put at each place?

Hmm...I want to start off by saying that other than the designated girl group, I think the other team ups made sense. Mirio and Nighteye were there to give Izuku an existential crisis. Fatgum is good with characters with generic low self-confidence like Amajiki and Kirishima.

But if I had to switch it up...I would probably send Ochako to Sir Nighteye's Agency. Ochako also has a character arc that involves going beyond the status quo. She seems like the type who would have been inspired by Mirio's drive but thoroughly disappointed by his inability to buck the status quo to save a child in front of them. But it might have been more of a shock to someone like Ochako rather than Izuku because she always fit the norm and was not so accustomed to the unfairness.

I would probably put Asui at Nighteye's Agency as well mostly because she has no filter and it would be fun for someone other than Rocklock to call out Nighteye on his nonsense.

Momo should have gone to Fatgum's Agency. They have quirks with similar functions and Fatgum is good with interns who need to work on their self-esteem. Amajiki and Momo are similar in that they're both brilliant heroes who perform poorly in the sports festival compared to their actual abilities. Izuku probably would have grown the most if he went to Fatgum's Agency as well due to similar self-worth issues.

Iida needed to stay out of the Shie Hassaikai Arc no matter what. Izuku's Shoot Style was too new and Izuku needed to be emotionally unstable in this arc, so Iida had to be shelved.

As for the Ryukyu Agency, it's hard to say because we know almost nothing about her. Nejire might have challenged Kirishima's rather rigid ideas of what makes a hero in an interesting way. I doubt Horikoshi would have ever chosen that route given how Kirishima's character is tied with the concept of masculinity though

Quite the opposite, this used to be your solitude when you were younger, but then, as you blossomed into young adulthood, your parents decided that they’d had enough of your “rebellious attitude” and that maybe spending some time with your grandparents in this god forsaken place would “straighten you out”.

They were just mad that you weren’t married and pregnant at 22 like they were.

The one good thing that came out of moving here was reconnecting with your childhood friend Izuku. You remember him being a shy thing, hiding behind you whenever you defended him against some losers that would try to bully you both. You remember the adorable freckles that adorned his face, almost forming constellations that you’d spend hours trying to connect. Forest green hair and eyes intrigued you from first glance.

He had matured. Quite nicely, in fact.

No longer was he a shy, fragile boy ready to cry at the drop of a hat. Instead, you were met with a fucking beast of a man. Bulked up with muscle, his arms were huge and his thighs matched in thickness as he towered over your plush form.

He looked absolutely delicious if you were being quite honest with yourself.

And that seemed to transfer to the people that he hung out with because he introduced you to some of the most attractive people you think you’ve ever seen.

Izuku invited you to a little Halloween get together with his friends. While you know they’re trying to be as welcoming as they can, you can’t help but feel like an outsider, being the only quirkless civilian out of the bunch. Izuku and Katsuki try to make you feel better about it, but when you think about the thin, athletic women that they’re surrounded with all day, it dampens your mood a little.

But you were determined to have fun at this kickback, ready to drink and dance to your heart’s content.

At least, that was the plan.

You decided to go dressed as Sailor Moon, adding a few accessories to customize it to your style before waiting for Izuku to pick you up. You didn’t tell anyone what your costume would be, knowing it was a bit out of your comfort zone, but you wanted to surprise everyone. Starting with him.

“Hey, “Zuku.” You coo, waving at him through the window. You wait for him to exit the car to open your door for you, something he insisted on doing ever since reconnecting with you.

His eyes give your outfit a once over, trailing particularly slowly over your thick thighs and exposed cleavage. He was clad in black jeans and a black muscle tee, his bulging arms busting at the seams. You swallow thickly, your eyes catching his. “Where’s your costume, Izu?” You question, your eyes furrowing as you glance at his outfit once again. “‘M wearing it.” He says, motioning to the Sniper Mask cosplay he fastened on the top of his head. You pout, your glossy lips puckered in the cutest way. “Izuuu,” you whine, “just a mask is not a costume. I would’ve even settled for you dressing up as yourself as a pro hero.” Izuku chuckles, opening your door for you. “Don’t worry, doll. When the night’s over, you’ll change your mind.” You initially wondered what he meant, but shrugged it off.

Maybe other people will just be wearing masks?

You both arrive at the party fashionably late, you never did like getting there too early, and by the time you greet your friends the event is in full swing, people dancing, drinking, making out. Now it’s a fucking party.

You immediately go to take 2 shots of vodka, chasing it with whatever god awful concoction that was put together in the punch bowl. “Easy there, Chubs. Ya jus’ got here.” You turn around to face the familiar voice, seeing none other than Katsuki standing with a smirk on his face. “And just what are you supposed to be?” You sass. From where you stood, he was dressed in black jeans, a black tee and his infamous combat boots. The only noticeable difference is the Cuban link chain dangling around his neck. “Homicidal maniac. They look like everyone else.” “Haha, very funny.” You deadpan, turning to look around the room. Katsuki grabs your chin between his thumb and forefinger, angling your head to look at him. “You’re looking very good though. I mean garters? You’re itchin’ for a rough night, doll.” He walks away before you get the opportunity to say anything so you take the chance to hightail it to the bathroom. The way him and Izuku are able to reduce you to a pile of mush should be a crime.

On your way to the bathroom, you notice droplets of what looks to be red paint on the floor. “Huh, they really went all out. That almost looks real.” You shrug as you enter and honestly, nothing could’ve prepared you for the sight.

It was a blonde guy, Monoma, you think his name was, laying there with his throat cut wide open. You weren’t close by any means and quite frankly, you’re kind of shocked to see him at this party. Katsuki is always raving about how the guy is bad news, yet here he is, laying dead in the tub of you don’t know who’s house.

You let out a blood curdling scream, the sheer horror of someone murdered before your very eyes shaking you to the core.

Izuku finds you first, his voice sounding distant as he tries to shield you away from the sight. “It’s gonna be okay (Y/NN). Don’t worry. Everything’s gonna be fine.”

Will it?

For the most part, only Izuku, Katsuki and their friends were the only ones who’d heard you and you were currently in a guest room trying to figure out what to do. “Okay, so we’ve got a dead body and basically a rogue serial killer on the loose who's probably here looking for their next victim, sound about right?” Kirishima asks, looking around. After a brief nod from everyone, he busts out into hysterics, “WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO DO?! I can’t go to jail, Kat. I-I’m not fit for jail. I mean I am fit, but that’s not the-“ “SHITTY HAIR, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER! Fucking idiot. Nobody’s going to jail.” Katsuki grumbles angrily. “But, what are we going to do-“ “GIVE ME A FUCKING SEC TO THINK!” He practically shouts at you. “Hey, there’s no reason for you to yell at her. She’s scared.” Izuku defends. “Yeah, well we’re all fucking scared, Shitty Deku. She can pipe down for a minute.” You place a reassuring hand on Izuku’s bicep as you feel him ready to start up again. He looks at you before giving you a brief smile, taking your hand in his.

“Alright,” Katsuki finally says after a few minutes of silence. “We’re gonna have to hide the body. Us boys will take care of the moving, you girls take care of the clean-up and kicking everybody the fuck out of this house. That not only slims down the chances of having another murder on our hands, but also the possibility of having a fucking killer in our house. Sound good?” He checks in, looking around for any signs of hesitation. When he’s satisfied he claps his hands together, “All right, let’s move.”

You decided to take to ushering people out of the house, while a lot of people were upset at having their fun cut short, you were more delighted at the fact that the possible murderer was being escorted out. Once you were certain that everyone besides your group had left, you closed the door behind you, leaning against it. “Feeling better?” You yelp at the sound directly in your ear. You turn to see Denki, one of the more eccentric people in the group. You aren’t particularly close to him, but you’d like to think you have a good relationship with him. “Oh, uh, kinda. Still a bit shaken up, I guess.” He hums, almost as if he’s considering your words. “I guess anyone would be. It’s not everyday something like this happens.” He says, closing in on the distance you’d put between you two, eyes trailing over your plump frame. “We should probably head back to meet with everyone.” You suggest, turning away and hurrying in the direction of what is now, the conference room.

You enter and see Katsuki, along with Kirishima and Mina, and as you turn, you see Izuku and Shoto entering after you. “Where’s Dunce face?” Bakugo asks, scowl present on his face. “He was just with me. I don’t know where he could’ve wandered off to.” You practically whimper, already scared of the possibilities. “Relax, Chubs. I’m sure he’s fine. Don’t worry your pretty little head. I’ll go look for him, how’s that sound?” He suggests. “I’ll go with you.” Izuku pipes up. “That way it’ll be safer.” You nod, not wanting anything to happen to your closest friends. As they leave, you sit quietly as Kirishima, Mina and Shoto all try to make sense of what’s happening.

It isn’t even an hour later before the lights in the room you’re in start to flicker before going out completely. You all immediately pull out your phones for your flashlight. “Um, guys. Something’s wrong.” Mina says after a few beats of silence. Kirishima is about to reassure her before he’s cut off by a gut wrenching scream. He takes to holding her against his chest, hoping to shield her away from the horrors that await on the other side of the door. The screaming stops for a while before starting back up once again, this time more chilling than the last. The screams come to a stop once again when all of a sudden, your phone starts flashing.

*Incoming FaceTime Call*

You glance around, wondering if you should answer when you decided, fuck it, and answer the call.

You’re all met with a figure in a mask, his voice distorted as he speaks, “Let’s play a game shall we?” The figure doesn’t wait for a response before continuing, “If you guys can somehow find your friend in the next ten minutes, I won’t kill explosion boy. Tick tock.” They say before disconnecting the call. You all don’t get the chance to discuss the call before the door to the room you’re in bursts open.

There stands Izuku, his attire disheveled and his face rather shaken up. “Izu,” You run up to him, giving him a onceover. “What happened? Are you okay?” “Ka-Kaachan.” He barely gets out. “What, honey? What happened with Kat?” You ask, hands rubbing soothing circles onto his back. “That’s just it, (Y/NN). I- I don’t know what happened. One second we were together, the next we weren’t. As soon as I realized I lost sight of him I came back here. I thought he would’ve had the same idea.” He sighs out. He felt like a failure. Not one, but two of his friends had gone missing within the span of an hour and he had the nerve to call himself a pro hero? “Then we’ll all go look.” You say, determination set in your voice. “They would do the same for us, we’ve got to look out for them.” You say, grabbing his hand. You look at everyone else the best you can and just barely make out their nods. “Let’s get going.”

You all walk together, flashlights in hand down the corridor of the house. “I think the screams came from the front of the house.” You hear Kirishima say. “Okay, we’ll check out there first.” Izuku says, leading you all towards the front of the house.

It takes you a while, but you finally arrive and nothing could’ve prepared you for the sight in front of you.

Almost like a sensor, the lights cut on, and you’re met with Kaminari beaten bloody and strung up against the wall and his throat slit.

But that wasn’t all.

There laid Katsuki, your Katsuki, with what looked to be six knives in his back and a pool of blood surrounding him. You turned away to keep yourself from throwing up. “Oh-oh my God. Oh my God. What the fuck?!” You practically shriek. You’re shaking, you’ve never been in a situation like this before. “What the fuck is going on, man?” Kirishima grunts. “Let’s go back to the room.” Izuku suggests. “What, why? What if the killer is still in here?” Mina asks. “What if they’re right outside waiting to kill us?” He counters. Everyone looks at each other before nodding, heading back to the conference room.

Once you all arrive, Mina’s on you. “I don’t care what anyone else says, I’m onto you, quirkless.” She practically spits, finger pointing harshly into your chest. You look at her stunned and everyone else is taken aback by her sudden outburst. “These murders didn’t start happening ‘til you showed up. And you just so happen to be the only quirkless person here? Seems a bit fishy to me, no?” She questions, looking around for confirmation. You notice Kirishima considering her words and you feel yourself begin to panic. “Mina, what the fuck? I thought we were friends?! How the fuck would I be able to kill a bunch of pro heroes in training? You said it yourself, I’m quirkless!” You exclaimed. How was this suddenly being put on you? “I don’t know (Y/N). It kinda adds up. You were the last person seen with Kami and you “found” Monoma’s body. Plus, you just so happened to be the one the killer calls? It’s just too many coincidences.” Kirishima sighs. You feel your heart breaking as you feel your friends turn on you. “You guys have literally no concrete proof that it was me.” “(Y/NN)-“ “No Izuku, they’re trying to blame me for something I didn’t do.” “I know, but if you’d just-“ “No! Fuck that, Izuku, I’m not the killer!” You cry. The tears blur your vision, so you fail to notice the smirk making its way to Izuku’s face. “I know.” He says as he pulls out a gun and shoots both Mina and Kirishima in the head. They both immediately drop dead to the floor, and you’re too stunned by the sight to say anything.

Izuku sighs, wiping the barrel of his gun. “Such a shame, I was gonna let them go, but then they had to go and rile you up. Are you okay, love? She didn’t hurt you, did she?” Izuku asks, giving your body a once over. “What? What’s going on?” You finally manage to take your eyes away from Mina and Kirishima to look Izuku in the eyes, alarmed. “You’re mine, silly. Had to get some competition out the way though.” He sighs. You’re taken aback by his proclamation. This whole time, Izuku had feelings for you? He liked you back, enough to feel like he had to kill for you? “You- you did this, for me?” Izuku nods emphatically, nuzzling his face into your neck, inhaling your scent. “Did it for us, baby. Can’t have people thinking they can have you.” He says, moving to pepper kisses along your neck. Unconsciously, you move your head to the side, granting him better access. While doing this, you’d completely forgotten Izuku’s other friend, Shoto, who’d not only been privy to Izuku’s love confession, but also to his friend’s admitted murder spree. “Uh, Izu? What about-“ “Todoroki? We don’t have to worry about him. Wherever I go, he’s sure to follow.” Izuku smiles. He turns to him, addressing him for the first time all night. “Actually, Todoroki, can you do me a favor? Stand outside for me?” You’re a bit confused why he’d want him to stand guard outside, but you don’t have time to ponder that when you feel Izuku’s lips on yours, his warm tongue gliding inside your mouth.

You know you shouldn’t want this. He’s a fucking serial killer! But, he admitted he did it for you, so the sentiment is there, right? It may not be the most conventional, but at least he put some thought and consideration into it. Right?

That was enough for you to kiss back, moaning into his mouth as you wrap your thick arms around his neck and he wraps his arms around your waist, grabbing handfuls of the fat settled there. Can't stop thinking about a CiderDeku focused AU in which our favorite seltzer boy and Midoriya work as part time vigilantes together.

And since Izuku has a fire bending quirk in this AU, the contrast of his quirk and Cider's (who is named Mizunami Himura in this story) make people start calling them "Steam-Bow couple" as their unofficial vigilantes name.

Still thinking about the details of how they started their crusade together as vigilantes, but I like that idea I mention in other post about Mizunami saving Izuku from Bakugou when both of them still were in Aldera and Midoriya was around 13. Mizunami still was the leader of the Cider House gang (and maybe two years older than Midoriya) but later he left the group because he felt his members started to be way too problematic and getting in worse situations with civilians and heroes, something he didn't like because while Mizunami commited crimes like robbery he never tried to harm innocent people during his operations.

Besides he started feeling for Izuku after protect him from Bakugou, and since Izu wanted to stay with him after the incident they both start to get along and quickly became good friends, Mizu also helping Izu no being so shy and insecure about himself due the years of bullying.

He start helping Izuku to train his quirk and body during his free time, which served a lot for Midoriya to get in good shape and develop a fight style for the years to come as he still intented to apply to at least a low-middle tier hero school (and this will became important later).

I like to think the incident with the Sludge monster from chapter 1 was what caused a twist on their relationship, as unlike what happens in canon here when both of them are attacked by the Slime that escaped from A.M, Izuku and Mizunami give the monster a big surprise because they were able to fight back.

Slime turned to be quite vulnerable to water and fire combined, which allowed Izu and Mizu to restrain him in a bottle of soda and left him for the heroes finish the job later, as they run totally excited by the experience.

After escape and being safe, Izuku suddenly jump to the arms of Mizunami and they started kissing out of the excitement of the moment. When they calm down both smiled and since that moment they became officially boyfriends, and decide they would have more moments like this in the future so they will start fight criminals together.

Also the incident also give Izuku the final confidence boost he always needed and when Bakugou provoked him after school trying to make fun of Mizunami who was there for walk along Izuku to his home, Midoriya decided he had enough when Katsuki insulted his boyfriend.

So what happened next is that Izuku deep breath and expelled a big green fire ball from his mouth, which resulted in Bakugou getting a lot of first degree burns and loosing his eyebrows (something for what he would be mocked a lot later).

Mizunami used his water quirk to extinguish the fire over Bakugo's clothes who is totally terrified, then Mizu and Izuku laugh at him take a picture with their funs for future reference and run away together.

Inko Midoriya found out about the bullying earlier than in canon.

After visiting the doctors and finding out her son was quirkless, the woman was at a loss at first.

Even with the assurance of her high school friend, Mitsuki Bakugo, and her husband, Masaru, that their son, Katsuki, will look after Izuku during their time in school, Inko felt uneasy.

And then...her boy came home after playing in the park with Katsuki and the other boys, covered in dirt and bruises.

Mama Midoriya was not having it.

She went off on not just Katsuki, but to Mitsuki as well. Despite Masaru trying to stop the rage that was coming from the green haired woman, he clammed up as soon as her fury was turned on him for being a coward against his wife and spoilt son.

Suffice to say, Inko severed her ties of long-lasting friendship with the Bakugos after that.

But that also meant that Inko could no longer stay in the neighbourhood, not with the Bakugos being the most popular in the community and all. Neighbours tend to talk, and Inko didn't want to be isolated and make Izuku feel guilty of why they were not friends with any of the other kids and their families anymore.

Luckily, Inko had a friend outside of Japan that could help them.

While it was not ideal to move to another country, it wasn't as if Hisashi was coming back for them. That was the only reason that Inko stayed where she was and raised Deku in the home that her supposed husband has provided for her while he worked overseas.

No, Inko was going to be the hero for once. Izuku's hero.

She called up that friend, explaining the situation and she smiled when the friend said that they're going to help her and Izuku. After all, Paris was one of the countries that had more quirkless than any others of the world. They could make a new life there.

Who would've thought that Sabine Cheng was the friend of Inko's. Apparently the two of them were part of an online flower arranging club, mostly giving tips to other women that loved the art and soon it formed a sort of 'pen-pal' relationship between them for years.

Sabine easily helped Inko with paperworks of divorce and a visa to Paris, thanks to the Cheng family having connections.

Inko wasn't ready to tell her son that she was quietly separating from his father, but then again, Izuku never seems to ask about his Dad anymore. Not since his fanatic obsession with heroes and All Might. It should relief her a bit, but it also worried her.

When telling Izuku that they were moving away, at first, Izuku cried. Mostly because he still dreamed of being a hero, of being like All Might...even if he was quirkless.

But somehow, after a few days, Izuku was quiet and conceded. Inko had a feeling that the last day of school for Izuku, something happened (she finds out later that Katsuki had said some mean choice of words...something about a swan dive. Who teaches an elementary school boy that?!)

Izuku tried to be happy, he really did.

While being a hero was the number one dream in his heart, he can tell that his mother was feeling guilty and sad about him. Especially when finding out he wasn't going to be like other kids.

On the bright side, at least he's away from Kacchan and the bullies.

Paris...was bright and colorful.

Both Midoriyas were at awe when they first arrived.

Sabine was there at the airport to greet them with a smile, along with a huge bear of a man that was waving at them happily and on his shoulder was a cute sweet little girl Izuku's age holding up a sign that said, "Bonjour et bienvenue, Midoriyas~!"

Marinette was excited to have a new friend.

It didn't stop Chloe's attitude, per se. She was going to be Audrey's daughter, through and through. But she wasn't as bad as canon.

It didn't help that Izuku was around when Inko was babysitting, meaning Marinette was always around as well.

The two wasn’t even phased by the amount of people surrounding them. The greenette even seemed to enjoy it.

You honestly didn’t care that much so you just continued taking shots and dancing. But eventually you were grabbed by the arm. The hand felt calloused and rough. As if they’ve been used many times over. You immediately prepare to slap whoever this was in the face until you noticed who it was. The same green haired boy as before. Quirk Analysis: Frog (Asui Tsuyu)

The quirks from My Hero Academia have always been my favourite bit, so I'm gonna have some fun doing some Izuku style quirk breakdowns. The science here will be both real and theoretical. Feel free to use any of this in fics. My science background is basically exclusively biology so expect that to be the basis for any of my fake quirk science. Have a quirk you wanna see next? Just tell me!

First things first - her quirk counselor should be dragged out into the street and shot - her quirk isn't frog - it's chameleon.

Now, you may say "but she looks like a frog" and true! She does! But so do her parents - Tokoyami's bird mutations are unrelated to his quirk, as are Spinner's Lizard-like traits, and were inherited from one or both parents. I'm sure Asui's are too, given both her parents have frog/toad like traits (another thing - frogs and toads aren't distinct types of animal, they are the same animal with different names based typically on aesthetics but without any taxonomic background. but. I digress.) Her other frog-like traits (regurgitating her stomach, mild toxins, etc) are likely also inherited mutations.

The tongue of a frog is attached at the front of the mouth, giving in the ability to sort of flap forward and back. It's very soft, sticky and actually rather short, but that forward attachment lets it extend quickly and a decent distance. This is nothing like Asui's long, flexible and muscular tongue. It more closely resembles a chameleon tongue, sans the bony support it has on the end, though she does seem to have a similar tongue pad. I'd actually say its a pretty even mix between the musculature and dexterity of a human tongue.

Her camouflage ability - its true some frogs can change colour, but its typically from one standard colour to another, often during the breeding season. A fine control over colour change is seen in chameleons, though its a communication tool rather than a camouflage. She has the ability to camouflage her uniform too, so we are just going to have to assume that's due to a DNA infused fabric or some sort of inbuilt translucency, otherwise she has a mild light manipulation quirk in addition to everything else and I don't want to think about it.

The colour change mechanism in chameleons is really cool too! They have a few layers of cells in their skin called chromatophores, each layer is either pigmented or reflects a certain colour of light (they have names, but just know the colours are red, yellow, black and blue, like a standard printer (yes i know its cyan and magenta not blue and red but my point still stands). The chromatophores can expand, showing more of their colour, or shrink, showing less giving us a a shade through optical colour mixing!

Blue is the colour that's only reflected light, not a pigment, it's colour is purely structural. This is true in all animals! Any time you see a blue animal (or admittedly a green one) the blue on them is due to a structural quality of their skin/scales/feathers. This is not true for plants (and possibly invertebrates? i don't know much about them).

So, basically, a more accurate description of her quirk is 'chameleon-like traits with frog-like vestigial mutations'.

Some extra questions

can she breathe through her skin? If she can, she'd be able to stay underwater/holding her breath much longer than any standard human, though it wouldn't be sustainable (surface area to volume ratio - she doesn't have enough skin to get enough oxygen to fulfill her needs).

cold triggers an involuntary hibernation - the idea she can hibernate at all is just wild. It requires a lot of very specific adaptions to do so, which we'd have to assume her quirk gave her. This means her heart-rate and metabolic rate can slow dramatically without any ill-effects - chilling her would be an effective way to stop her from bleeding out, or a way to conserve energy during a famine/siege.

some frogs which hibernate in areas that reach below freezing have natural mechanisms which prevent damage to tissues when frozen - a natural antifreeze. she should be highly resistant to frostbite and death by hypothermia. you could also cryogenicly freeze her and then defrost her at a later date.

chameleons can control both eyes individually, giving them a great degree of vision while sacrificing depth perception - could tsuyu? given practise, any human can do it, so it's not impossible, but the increase in visual field would be limited and not particularly practical.
