new person, same old mistakes. || scotty x black!fem!reader ♡

author’s note: back from my break + a new fic that isn’t shuri! however it still is a letitia character LMFAO. this time i’m writing about her role as scotty in the mini series cucumber & banana! me and @erensslut​ watched it together, had a blast, nd now i’m writing about this crazy lil girl. please watch the episode before reading this fic because it’ll make more sense.

this is dedicated to the black girls who felt weird about scotty going after someone that was..... yknow. LMFAOOOOO. also, reader wears wigs!! it’ll be useful info later on.

originally this was in my drafts for a very long time because of the tiktok discourse surrounding letitia fanfictions. now that the drama has died down, i feel more comfortable to post this. warnings are stated for a reason. enjoy!

warnings: stalking. scotty is a stalker, if you couldn’t tell from the episode. don’t like it, don’t read. i’m not gonna sugarcoat it LOL.

plot: even after moving on from yvonne burgess, seemingly becoming a different and changed person, scotty seems to find another girl to latch onto. this time a vans employee in the mall.

the mall. it was a wonderful place to be. kinda. malls were beginning to become a dying breed, and they tended to only spike when it came to holiday season. annoying kids running around, adults frantically trying to find gifts to buy people last second, and so much more.

well, it was holiday season, and all of those things listed above were happening at that very moment for you. see, you work at vans. it’s not much money, but it is some money. you definitely don’t get paid enough to have kids running around the store all the time, or people trying to steal, but you couldn’t be bothered to do anything about it.

it was a busy day, of course, and so helping people out was never an issue since it was your job. “excuse me, ma’am? i’m trying to find shoes for my son-- he skates.” a short, older lady came up to you and you smiled back at her and nodded. “oh, of course. come, show me what type you were looking for?” you used your customer service voice as you waited for her to lead the way.

as you two were walking, you couldn’t help but to think about how things were going lately. lately it had felt like you were being watched. it was a weird instinct, but a possible, truthful claim. you had told your co-workers about this before, but they laughed it off. to them it wasn’t serious. just a practical joke.

you could feel that feeling of being watched again. in the background, you could faintly hear someone calling for you.

“hello? miss? i have the shoes.”

it took you a moment before you focused again, shaking your head and sighing, you pretended to be tired. “oh, gosh, i’m so sorry. i’ve been working since this morning so i’m very tired! back to what we were doing.. what size did you want these shoes in, so i can check the back--?”

“a size eight, please.” you smiled and nodded, before making your way to the back to grab the shoes. about six minutes passed, and you were back with the shoes for the customer. you led her to the front of the store to check out, and you turned your head to look through the display window, where your displayed shoes sat. then, all of a sudden, your stomach did flips.

your instinct was right. you were being watched.

in the very distance-- where the food court lies- there was a girl. she couldn’t be too old. short, straight hair. she was tiny to say the least, like she really couldn’t hurt a fly, and she was interested in you. really interested in you.

it all started two weeks ago, when she tagged along with her friends to go to the mall. nothing serious, she just came with since they invited her. there wasn’t much she could buy in the mall, so window shopping was her best option.

and that’s when she saw you.

you were incredibly gorgeous. the way you smiled at people that walked inside of the store, how attentive you were, the way you walked around.. and all you were doing was your job. you work in retail, so everything that seemed normal to you, was perfect to her.

you were completely oblivious to this girl and her behavior, until you weren’t. see, for the first week, everything felt normal. you went about your job and duties normally. but on the second week, you were really starting to feel watched. you weren’t sure if it was because of you watching horror movies recently, but now everything felt off.

meanwhile, here was scotty. trying to get as much information on you as possible because she was so interested in you. she’d ask her friends to go to the mall practically every weekend just so she could see you, but she realized you weren’t always there when she was there.

it only clicked with her some time later that you definitely have a work schedule. which only meant she had to start coming on weekdays now, no biggie.. for her. not for you, though. that was when your weird stalking feeling started to come in- when she started coming on weekdays.

there were so many times when scotty wanted to come into your store; but she never knew what to say. ask for assistance, maybe? nah. vans were so expensive, why would she even bother asking for something she knew damn well she couldn’t afford?

regardless, she admired you from a distance. she managed to pick up a few facts about you whenever you walked out of the store on your break, walking and talking with your coworkers.

“ma’am, i’ve been standing here waiting for assistance and you haven’t even rung me up.” the lady you were helping earlier scoffed, and you snapped out of your slightly terrified demeanor. the girl you saw earlier was no longer there. she must’ve ran away the moment you two made eye contact.

“i am so so sorry, don’t know what’s up with me.” you awkwardly laughed, lying. you knew exactly what was wrong but you didn’t even want to think about it.

you continued to ring the lady up, but your heart was pounding, and your mind was going crazy. you handed the lady her bag, and she snatched it, looking at you like you were crazy. honestly, you felt like you were going crazy. maybe you were just seeing things from the lack of sleep. it was all a blur.

you sighed, leaning on the counter as you looked back out the display window.

“hey, y/n?” you slightly jumped, looking at your manager with a slight embarrassed look.

“sorry for frightening you-- i think you should go on break. you seem so out of it. i’ll cover for you, just go get something to eat or drink.” your manager explained, and you sighed, nodding and grabbing your bag.

you walked out of the store, slightly shaking. ‘why on earth did you leave the store? you now have a higher chance of being hurt!’ you told yourself in your head, but you simultaneously ignored your own words at the same time.

you stood outside the store, looking around frantically before pulling your phone out and looking down at it. you opened the weather app, hoping to god you looked busy.

meanwhile, in the bathroom, there was scotty, panting like crazy as she stood in a stall, slightly shaking. you were never meant to see her. she was only supposed to be admiring you from a distance, not calling the store’s phone number or anything-- or that’s what her coworkers told her to do. be less creepy. that plan absolutely backfired.

just as scotty was about to exit the stall, someone entered the bathroom. it was you. she looked up from the floor to see you, and you turned your head to see her. just as you were about to holler out, she put a finger to her own lips and motioned to the other people in the bathroom.

you looked at her like she was crazy. because other people were in the bathroom, she was about to motion for you to leave the bathroom with her- but immediately decided against it because she realized how that would even look.

you two awkwardly stared at each other before a lady exited the other stall, looking weirdly at the two of you as she washed her hands. scotty looked down at the floor again, and you looked back at your phone, trying to seem like you were just chilling on your break.

the silence was.. terrible to say the least. that woman took her sweet time washing her hands, and she used the hand dryer instead of paper towel. after about five minutes, the lady walked out of the bathroom, looking back at the two of you weirdly, before turning back around and leaving.

out of your peripheral vision, you watched the woman leave. once you were certain that she was gone, you sighed, and looked back up at scotty, who was still staring at the floor.

“i can explain, really i can. i’m sorry.” her voice was incredibly soft-- timid. you weren’t expecting it. in fact, you were taken aback. you couldn’t speak for a moment.

she slowly looked back up, looking at you with a face that was genuinely sorry. you sighed and nodded. “you can explain yourself-- but not here. and not in an entirely closed off area. i’m keeping my phone with me in case you--”

“i understand, and i would never do anything like that. honestly. we can go to the front of the mall if you feel safer.” she was quick to respond, and the attentiveness made you less scared.

nodding again, you walked out of the bathroom and she followed behind. you two made your way out of the mall, and you texted your boss to let him know you’d need a minute, and he responded happily.

as you two were making your way outside, scotty was incredibly terrified. this happened before and she didn’t want you to respond so negatively.

you sat down on a bench that was near the entrance, and she sat next to you, keeping her distance out of respect.

“explain.” you simply said.

“i know how bad this looks,” she began, and you scoffed, nodding as she looked down at her hands. “and i’m sorry. this isn’t.. the first time this has happened.” you looked at her, an expression that was mentally asking her if she was crazy.

“um. i saw you about two weeks ago.. doing your job. i thought you were really beautiful, but i was too afraid to say anything so i.. just kinda watched you from a distance.” her voice got small at the end. you didn’t say anything, feeling as if she wasn’t done talking.

“i understand how bad this looks, so if you’d like for me to avoid coming to the mall when you work, i understand.” she was silent after that, giving you the floor to talk.

“i guess i’m just trying to figure out.. why? like, why me?” this question was a gateway for scotty to go into a monologue, but she tried to keep it as short as possible.

“you’re beautiful. you’re always so nice to customers and it’s comforting to know that if i walked into that store and.. i guess, you saw me in there, you’d be nice to me too. your hair color always matches your shoes-- i think it’s so unique. you have a new makeup look everyday too. you just put so much effort into your appearance and i admire it. even if you wore no makeup, you’d still look perfect.” she rambled.

your heart was racing and you didn’t even realize it. you had it all wrong about this girl. she didn’t mean any harm but it definitely came off that way. it took you a moment to say anything.

“you don’t have to say anything either, i’m happy to just leave you alone and--”

“what’s your name?”

scotty looked at you, furrowing her eyebrows. “uh-- my name is scotty. scotty.. well-- it’s actually vivienne scott, but everyone calls me scotty.” she sputtered, fidgeting with her hands.

you nodded. “well, scotty. i’m gonna assume you know my name already; but just incase, it’s y/n. i’m really flattered by.. what you noticed about me. and the compliments, too. and i’d love to get to know you better, but just.. don’t do this anymore, please? you had me paranoid for like an entire week.” scotty was quick to nod and agree.

“of course, i’m so sorry.”

“apology.. accepted. i’m willing to be your friend.” scotty’s heart slightly fluttered-- friend was not the title she wanted, of course, but she was willing to work her way up to more than the title of friend. she smiled. “i’m really happy to hear that.”

“are you up for meeting with me on my lunch break tomorrow?” you asked, and scotty, slightly shocked you even asked her that, nodded. “oh, i’d.. love that, actually.”

“great. my lunch is at 11:00, and it ends at 12:00. it was nice having an actual convo, scotty.” you softly smiled before getting up and walking back inside the mall.

“oh yeah, definitely. thank you for the information.. bye, y/n.” scotty stayed seated at the bench, and watched as you walked back inside, the way your hips naturally had a slight sway as you walked.

but scotty already knew when your lunch break was and when it ended.

It's the same reason when I post something about Kat*ang I have to do it like that because I don't want it to end up in the yucky tag.

It's not like they are actively trying to offend us more, it's just some of them are actually trying to use tagging etiquette (good on them for doing so) where we aren't down each other's throats. It's just being polite if... if polite was a back-handed comment.

I honestly have no discourse with Kat*angers unless they are being outright bullies, and I will call them out on it. I will also disagree with their posts but also tag it correctly. If I see a post I don't agree with, I'll screenshot it and make my own post rather than reblog because that just causes an argument with the OP and I'm not about to waste my time. I also have control over who sees that post by the tags, so it's a win/win.

An object, a little animal, a food- whatever with cute lil wings :3

Appearance

Nothing confirms directly they are as species but they're very much alike and/or creators took totally inspirations from angels. Or they assume to have the role of an angel.

Disguise

People who wants to be simply disguised as angels.

As Birds

They aren't at all angels but if they are humans/humanoids with wings on their back weeeeeell-

Not at all angel I know but it is to me if they have wings.

🌿💤Mechanics I'd include in P6💤🌿 ; (Part 1)

Hello, my name is [REDACTED]!!!

I've had this idea for game mechanics and features for P6 for a long time now, and I thought, "y'know what? I might as well just write them down!". [DISCLAIMER] ; Some of these ideas are heavily inspired from this video, this video, and this video. I also wanna point out that this is simply just my interpretation, not what Persona 6 will actually look like and not what I expect it to look like, now anyways, without further ado ;

1 -. GENDER : Now first things first, I know that everyone who I've ever met wants an option for a female protagonist like in Persona 3 Portable. But may I propose the idea of a non-binary character? No matter what gender you choose, some scenes will play out differently, and you'll have unique social links depending on who you choose, perhaps even unique things that the different protags can say!

2 -. SOCIAL LINKS AFTER COMPLETION : I feel like after you max out a social link there isn't really anything left to do with them, so perhaps you can have the option of simply just spending time with them and hearing about themselves, maybe make the player more invested by having it voiced! After doing this, the player is rewarded with a unique item that can help them out in battle. Perhaps even give them unique dialogue if you decide to romance said character! Which brings us to our next couple of topics

3 -. PARTY INTERACTION : The party members in P5 and I guess P4??? Felt very disconnected with each other besides the protagonist, so why not do a Fire Emblem Three Houses and have the party members interact? For example, you get a notification on your phone and you get to see two characters bond, this will have an effect on the battlefield, kinda like how a Miitopia character will jump in the way of an attack to save an ally once they've become closer. Party members can also have discourses between each other which they ask the protagonist for advice to solve and this also has effects on the battlefield. And all of this leads up to the two characters gaining a special ability that they can do together to tag team the enemies!

4 -. ROMANCE : Repeat after me. WE. NEED.TO.HAVE.GAY.SHIT!!! Now I'm not saying make every party member/social link into the protag no matter the gender, but just some! There are even possibilities to end up in a throuple, but again, this isn't for every character, three certain conditions must be met in order to achieve this, 1, the protagonist must have two romances at most, anywhere over that and this is no longer possible. 2, both characters must be romantically interested in all parties involved, if not then the character has to choose which character they have to let go and remain friends with that social link for the remainder of the game. 3, no you can not include an adult social link. In fact, I think it's just weird that P5 made it so you could date older women, so yeah, no. All in all, if you are able to get the throuple route then not only will it introduce different versions of scenes, but also let you max out 2 social links for the price of 1.

5 -. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! : I always found it odd that we never got to celebrate the characters birthdays considering we have a calendar. You can spend time with this character on their birthday, and you have to give them a gift they like, kinda like in Persona 3 when you gift your girlfriend a Christmas present!

6 -. SIDE QUESTS : What I think would be a good idea would be a mechanic that allows you to grind by simply having fun and experiencing different kinds of wild situations, side quests! For example, a guy wants to buy his son a comic book for his birthday, once you give it to him, by the end of the quest you'll be rewarded! You could be rewarded with stat points, items, maybe even a weapon!

7 -. MAKE THE MASCOT USEFUL : Now I hate an annoying mascot just as much as the next person, all up in your face and telling you how cool you are and what to do. Well, how about you let the protagonist think that for themselves like "Maybe I should go to bed", like in games before P5. As for our mascot, give them a reason to say things, perhaps make them a part of the main menu and they can give you tips. Like in the middle of class you need to answer a question and the mascot says "Hey, maybe if you answer this, people will think you're more knowledgeable!", or you wake up in the morning and they say "Hey, maybe today seems like a good day to spend with (insert character) and (insert another character)". Stuff so that the player can keep tabs on what they are doing at all times, not hand holding.

8 -. GAINING A PERSONA: Instead of having the shuffle time and negotiations with shadows, how about interrogations, y'know how there's the good cop and bad cop tactic? Each one of your party members has a different way to convince a shadow to join your party, think of it like Persona 2 where Tatsuya had his motorcycle impression. I liked when Joker was able to choose different party members to distract and steal the crown from Kamoshida in his boss fight, in this interrogation scenario, the leader can choose a party member who aligns well with a shadow. Say that the shadow wants to laugh, you choose a party member who does something funny, say that the shadow is a loner, you choose someone who sympathises with them, that type of stuff.

I have a super secret (not really secret at ALL) side blog that is way more famous than I am on hockeyblr. I'm pretty sure all of my closest mutuals have figured it out but I'll pretend they haven't LOL. There's also @devils-pirate-crew which is a half-askblog half-fanfic thing that I was updating every other day to motivate myself to write on a regular basis and is currently on hiatus for the past year (so you can tell how well that's going)...

I have a weird tagging system where I double-tag most Devils players: once is for the actual name of the player, the other is a "funny" tag that I just like to use. I'll probably compile a list of those and put it here at some point.

Some important self tags you should know, though:

My most used tag is #beat reporter stereax which is frantic reposting of Twitter things (and sometimes other things) that are hockey news. “It’s fine,” you replied. Which obviously meant it was not fine.

Chris sighed as you looked away from the screen. “It’s not. I’m sorry, but I have interviews and events back to back. I’m trying.”

“Are you?” You finally looked back at him, furrowing your perfectly threaded brows.

“You know I am,” he said. “I promise I’ll come see you soon.”

You rolled your eyes. He bit his tongue. Refraining from telling you to behave. This didn’t feel like the time for that. He didn’t wanna upset you more. “You keep saying that but every time you push it back. I always come see you, but it’s never the other way around.” You went off. Clearly this had been something you’d been holding in. “You know what I gotta go. I’ll just talk to you later.”

It had honestly felt like a gut punch. Despite everything that’s been going on, the two of you had never really fought. Sure there was one time you’d gotten into a “disagreement” over something dumb once but it was over in like a second. This time felt different.

He was busy, you were busy. Distance is fucking hard. He was so proud of you and it made him feel guilty that he wasn’t really there with you.

Still he was really trying. He bought you flowers all the time. Texted you as much as he could. Fuck the two of you were at least in the same time zone so you could always FaceTime before bed.

When everyone found out there was this weird lull for a minute. Things just felt off. Maybe because of all the sudden attention and the way everyone seemed to be analyzing every move, but it was hard. But it didn’t matter. Because despite the weird slut shamey comments from too many people, the constant speculation about your sex lives, this weird tarot reading situation that people kept tagging you in, and obviously you ended up getting the brunt of most of the bullshit, you stuck through it.

There was one set of fans that was totally over the fucking moon. Then there was this other for both of you. The hate always seemed to happen for the same reason. Either way it was worse for you.

You always kept up a happy face though. That even though you’d bitch about the dumb shit they’d say you also read so much nice stuff. The even after that weird fucking segment from a dork that leaves his wife with a dry ass pussy and a few of the other fucking weirdos in that particular group of fuck wholes, you were okay. Everyone told him to not respond even though he wanted to so bad. But he was dying to say something, but he promised you so he refrained.

You were obviously right. It mostly died down. Of course there was this one particular dickhead that seemed to obsess over it. Even that became easy to ignore at some point. Not like you hadn’t kind of expected something.

Honestly it felt weird. Like he was worried about you. About how it was affecting you. If this was good for you. If he was good for you. Then the other part of him never wanted to leave your side. He just loved you.

Then a fucking bomb dropped. At first you rolled your eyes. Even laughed. It was like who the fuck cares where he thinks. It’s just then it’s became a discourse on twitter. On if it was fair for you to move on. It was such bullshit.

It was easy to mute certain words online and filtering as much as you could. Still not wanting to disrupt your happiness just because some jealous asshole had some dumb shit to say. It would have been fine if it didn’t end up in every interview you did.

Your album had finally dropped. Which came the press tour. Everyone heard about how you’d reworked it and it was so obvious he was why. Everyone felt the need to comment on it.

Of course he was asked questions about you. Everyone wanted to know as much as they could. He couldn’t even go to the grocery store without someone asking. Not to mention the way people would get when they saw you together.

It still didn’t compare to the absolute scrutiny you received. The way they’d dissect you. Everyone just running with a bullshit narrative that you’d led him on only to get with Chris and ghost.

Which wasn’t even true. You’d seen him at a few events. Got photographed together and suddenly everyone was running with that like it was true. Then a few days later there you were with him. Flirting with him on camera. Then letting him take you home so you could smoke and fuck.

Then the way you got caught. It just wasn’t a good look right after scrapping the album that was about him. Chris had read the lyrics. He hated that you ever had to feel like that. Not to say the entire thing was dedicated to your breakup, but after you’d done it all over it just wasn’t the same. Your heart was in it more. And people noticed. Despite the drama you were blowing the fuck up.

He was never the type to be in drama before. This was all new to him. Sure people speculated on his relationships. Hell there’d been speculation with his current costar. Fans and gossip blogs always did shit like that. He knew that. Hell he expected that kind of stuff to happen.

It was just that something was off and he realized that. Suddenly days that should have been scheduled together had been not happening. Something wasn’t right.

He knew he’d made sure to take those specific days off to see you on tour. It’s not like this was the first time he’d seen you. You tended to get more days off so you managed to make more time. Staying in bed for as long as you could. He fucking missed that. So yes he hopped on the fastest flight he could get.

The whole time there he was doing everything he could try and get a ticket. Not totally sure how to since it seemed like you were sold out.

He didn’t wanna be a fucking douche bag. Go up to someone like let me in I’m Captain America. You’d think he was a fucking dork. Well he could go up there and say hey I’m Chris Evans your boyfriend. Maybe he was still on the list.

Well he was going to have to look like an asshole because he had this big ass bouquet. Just hoping maybe it wasn’t too late. God his management and everything were about to be pissed, but he’d handle it. It’s just that ever since he met you, it felt like you belonged in his life. He wasn’t ready to lose that.

The thought had made him sick. It was like hey asshole. Either he got his shit together or he’d lose you. His fucking person. You were it him. And breaking up wasn’t an option if he could help it. Even if some tough decisions will have to be made.

Yeah he knew everyone would be pissed, but it was just something he’d have to deal with. It’s not like this has been a habit. It’s just that this time had been a little too long. Especially with all the problems going on.

If anything now that he was coming today he was here earlier. Which meant he could spend more time with you. Say sorry in your section of the bus. Get a hotel when you could.

“Hey, Chris!” Your tour manager greeted him with this fake ass smile.

“Hey,” he said probably sounding more nervous than he wanted to. He just wanted to see you already. “Is she already on stage?”

Your manager sighed then groaned. “See we just calmed her down. We feel like you being here might upset her more so-“

“What?” He asked with a raised eyebrow, side eyeing them as they’d rambled on. “You realize I’m her boyfriend, right?”

They bit their tongue and made a face before scrunching up their nose. “I’m aware,” they replied. “It’s just that we don’t need her having problems right before she goes on stage.”

It’s not that he didn’t get that, but fuck. If it was that bad he could make it better!

“There’s nothing I can do,” they replied with a shrug.

Yeah see that wasn’t going to work for him. He doesn’t know what the fuck was going on but he was getting the fuck inside. Whatever games everyone was playing was not keeping him from his girl.

He sighed and took his phone out. Considering he wanted to surprise you, at least he knew one person here that didn’t hate him.

“Why didn’t you just text me first!” Your best friend rolled her eyes.

Chris chuckled feeling relieved. If she didn’t hate him. You didn’t hate him. “I know. I should have. I just thought you’d be mad at me.”

“Look, you’re here. Her last dude would have never hopped on a plane for her like that.” She shrugged. “I like that about you.”

“Yeah I’m trying. It’s just… I feel like our schedules never line up anymore, but that’s okay I’m gonna talk to my team and tell them they can’t just add things without speaking to me first anymore,” he rambled on.

Chris almost missed the way she glared at your tour manager. “Yeah, that’ll be a start at least.”

Watching you in the studio had been magical to say the least. You looked so fucking cute all serious and energetic. Like you were so in love with what you were doing. He’d never been like this before. Honestly he felt like a fan girl.

You sang a lot at home. Like when you’d be fiddling around with different melodies or lyrics. Sometimes with acoustic guitar accompanying it. Then other times piano. There’d been a few times where you’d play together. Not that he was at your level. 

Those were some of his favorite moments. They seemed to be yours too because you’d giggle and bite your lip. Then you’d always end up on his lap. Kissing and grinding on him. But this? This was not the same.

You were in your element. And the crowd was probably just as pumped as he was. It’s not like you were the first famous woman he’d dated, but it was never like this. Something about you in that spotlight in your knee high boots and little costume. You were so fucking perfect. All made up. You looked like a fucking star. And you had no idea he was right there.

Your fans were clearly feeling it. Screaming along to every song. You honestly looked like you were having the time of your life. This place was fucking packed. All for you. God he couldn’t believe he almost missed this.

You still hadn’t noticed him from where he was, but you were performing like it didn’t matter. That’s his girl.

“I always put you on the list,” you replied.

He sighed and kissed the top of your head. Fuck he really needed to step up. “Y/N, outfit change,” your manager said.

“We’ll talk after?” You asked pulling away from him.

“Yeah of course. You sounded amazing by the way.”

“Think so?”

“Of course I did,” he said with a smile before pecking your lips again. His eyes connecting with your manager’s who sneered at him as you finally went on your way.

It didn’t take long for you to be back into it. Up on stage putting in work. He doesn’t know how you did all of that. In heels.

He was genuinely bummed out when it was over. Then you were back in his arms giggling as he placed kisses all over your face. He actually couldn’t believe you were his girl. That you were this fucking amazing.

After the meet and greet and some other stuff the two of you finally got to be alone. Getting a hotel so the two of you could be alone. Honestly he was waiting for you to do something. Scream at him maybe.

Instead you let him hold you in the shower. A silence falling over you. Just wanting to be with you. Fuck he felt like such a fucking asshole still. At least he knew things weren’t broken.

•They were caught off guard when you called them "gringo" for the first time. They unconsciously started to remember if they said something wrong, but a few more times of being called that they got over it.

ok, here's what i'm driving at: this epidemic of 'maybe women are SMART ENOUGH to just not be influenced by society in any way :)' arises from the exact same flawed mentality as treating 'Racist' as a noun, as an identity. that a person Is An Racist or they are Not An Racist, rather than existing on a spectrum of benefiting from/perpetuating/internalizing racism.

it's the same fallacy that leads people to mindlessly parrot TERF talking points and then say 'trans rights!' in the same sentence. i'm sure there's a word for this, but if there isn't, i'm going to call it the 'Identity-Ideology Fallacy.' it's treating ideology like a list of The Correct Words To Identify As, rather than the internal system of the things you believe and why you believe them.

'TERF' is on the Bad Checklist, so i hate TERFs! no need to analyze what TERFs believe or why they believe it, because i am a Trans Ally (good), which means i am immune to transphobic dogwhistles! no need to examine my own personal beliefs, because i am not A TERF :)

and

'beauty standards' is on the Bad Checklist, so i hate beauty standards! no need to analyze how they work, because i am A Feminist/Antiracist (good), which means i am immune to internalized misogyny/white supremacy! no need to examine my personal sense of aesthetics, because i am not A Misogynist/White Supremacist :)

are both predicated on this fallacy, and, in case it wasn't clear, this is fucking dangerous. it poisons the well of public discourse, resulting in well-meaning people becoming unwitting proponents of deeply bigoted opinions. and genuine bad actors are aware of this, and will intentionally use the Good Checklist as camouflage- TERFs and other white supremacists are experts at this. it is a foundational component of every left-to-right political pipeline.

i've seen QUITE a few positivity posts lately aimed at gnc lesbians, along the axis of things like packing, binding, etc, doing things that look more 'manly' and how that's good and awesome, and it is! but yknow what i'd like to see? what i've never, ever seen? some of those posts aimed at... literally anyone else. everyone else. i want to see it independent of sexuality, actually

i want queer/trans people fully liberated from the idea that our bodies should 'match' our gender, and that cannot be achieved without fully liberating cishet people from the idea that their bodies do 'match' their gender.

Remember a few years ago when I admitted that I spent the entire run of the 2003 series worried that Raph actually hurt Mikey and that those head slaps were harmful? I never grew up with siblings, and most of the friends I had with siblings either fully adored their siblings or genuinely went through real abuse - physical scars and emotional trauma. I still actually have issues because of a guy who was a lot like Raph except he actually regularly beat the shit out of his kid brother on purpose.

So for over a decade I had very little world experience with sibling rivalry that was "healthy wrassling" rather than outright terror that made the younger sibling leave the family. Even in the tags here, with 2012, there's extraordinary discourse. Personally? Yes, I think 2012 Raph absolutely hurt Mikey when he didn't have to, which doesn't negate the love and care, just like 2012 Splinter being weirdly negligent of Mikey didn't negate the good things he did. Family can be two ways with each other, and it's so weird to see 2012 fans defending Splinter using his willingness to die as ultimate proof of his love while ignoring the fact that he often wasn't that great with his individual kids. He stumbled as a parent. The family dynamics wasn't great. Raph hit Mikey. Splinter let Mikey slip under his radar. The writing wasn't great. We as fans sigh heavily, grumble, rant on our blogs, write massive essays, and ultimately accept it and make a bunch of AU stories to project our headcanons onto one way or another.

The fandom isn't really toxic the way other fandoms are, it's just made up of mostly people under age forty with A Lot Of Feelings who lash out at each other when they feel defensive over canon. I mean, obviously. Some older person with a psychoanalysis hat telling you that your beloved characters reflected behavior that was easily read as manipulative or sshh abusive is painful.

Thirty years in this fandom means seeing patterns and cycles of discourse. It means having to literally say "It's okay, you can write your own version of the canon story, that's literally why fanfiction exists." Took me until the late 2000s to figure out that there were categories like Canon Divergent and Fix-It. I didn't know "What If" was called Alternate Universe and I used to call ficlets "Scenes From [Alternate Universe or Canon Divergent Story That Will Never Actually Be Written Because I Just Wanted To Write The Good Parts]." I'm still learning. I may be an Old Fan from Old Times but I still have a bunch to learn. However, I'm very good at finding patterns. And the TMNT fandom follows very familiar cyclical patterns. It's comforting.

Point is, the 2003 4Kids series had a really really good portrayal of brotherhood, and for me it's like a whole new study of psychoanalysis now that I see more nuances than my younger self. And it appears that my own fic writing reflects that subconsciously.
