I don't think I've ever been as hype for a game as I was when the first pokemon mystery dungeon dropped. The excitement at playing a pokemon for some reason thrilled me to my core. I remember looking at the promotional materials for it (and I can vaguely recall the trailers) and just how hype the concept was. Also PMD Red Rescue team was the first pokemon game that fit my real name (my real name was too long to fit in any pokemon game prior so I always had to shorten it) I spent many late nights as a kid playing Red Rescue Team, and I remember how grateful I was that they released Red Rescue team for Gameboy advance as at the time I hadn't gotten a DS. (though once I got my DS lite, I was immediately excited to play Red Rescue Team with the DS lite's backlight) Red Rescue team will always have a special place in my heart. But Explorers of Time/Sky just hit different. That story was just *chef's kiss*. I loved everything about it. Dialga is one of my favorite legendary pokemon (one of the first ones I caught successfully in a game, I think I might've only succeeded on catching a few of the legendary birds prior (I basically played gen 1, some of gen 2 I may have gotten stuck behind the sudowoodo when I played gen 2 and then skipped ahead to gen 4) I think also it just had mons I really liked. I adored playing as piplup in time, and then I got vulpix in sky (with riolu as my partner). The update to the portrait images. The updates they made in sky (those episode were so much fun, the new partners, the cafe, shaymin) were amazing. ALSO THE POST GAME IN EXPLORERS. While the ones that came after it didn't quite hit the same highs as Red Rescue Team or Explorers of Time/Sky. I still really enjoyed playing through Gates to Infinity. Super Mystery Dungeon was also fun, but since you could recruit every pokemon once you beat the game I know I got very bored with it unfortunately. I do like that they made all the mons recruitable and definitely early on you're like 'ooo cool I can recruit these mons' but one of the things I did like in gates to infinity was the ability to go on adventures with your teammates without partner and hero. In my head it was fun to just have Volt the Joltik and Muse the litwick go adventuring together on smaller missions and be their own little duo just taking care of the smaller tasks while the hero and partner were off gallivanting. IT was like having the ability to play some little side characters, and they're pokemon you recruited so they're just more the merrier. Which I think was something sadly lost in super mystery dungeon with the sheer abundance of members you can wind up with. I do like that it was a push to allow you to get every mon but also, woof that was a lot of pokemon. Plus if you just got the evolved forms, it kind of defeated the purpose of training up the pre evolutions because it was like 'well why bother evolving them, their evolved forms are already in my team' But the additions of wands and other stuff were fun little features, that I am glad to see carried into DX. Speaking of DX WHERE IS THE EXPLORERS OF TIME/SKY REMAKE. Gosh give me that game with a fresh coat of paint. I do love the pixel style of the time with that, but I would still like to see it get the DX treatment and jsut see how it plays with all the series improvements. I just want more Pokemon Mystery Dungeon T.T

I would be interested to know that your favorite part is PMD (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon), mine would probably be Sky and PSMD both are equally good in my opinion and I find it difficult to choose.(but basically I like all games of PMD)

I hope everyone enjoys the survey.

My piece for the @trafficzine 5th edition! It was such an honor to have my piece alongside so many other amazing artists in this fandom, and it's especially special since Secret Life was the first life series I watched!
I'm so proud of this piece, the mounders have my whole heart... See if you can name all the little mounders moments I put in the panels :]
Alternate versions and sketches below the cut!
Top two are sketches from when I was laying out how I wanted the final thing to look like, bottom left was the first draft of the piece until I decided I wanted more little references to other Mounder's moments across the piece, I still love it; and bottom right is the lined version of it when I was still struggling with color and figuring out how the sparkly parts were meant to look.

Congratulations My Hero Academia for providing, possibly, the biggest and longest legit straightbaiting yet in shonen history.
Bonus points that their final chapter was released on yaoi day.

As a fellow fan of Dark Souls 2, I've never seen a post that sums up my feelings on DS2 and DS3 more. DS2 is definitely more clunky, the animations are kinda shitty sometimes, and while ADP isn't an inherently bad stat it should have been communicated to the player much better. I will concede to those complaints. However, the world, story and environments felt like they had much more care and effort put into them. The combat of DS3 feels better, but for me, the combat was never really the point of the Dark Souls series, or any other games like it. Dark souls is about exploring a vast kingdom, long since broken but teeming with new life, like vines overtaking a castle's walls as nature takes back what it rightfully owns. It's about experiencing carefully crafted, beautiful environments, with enemies, items and bosses being there just to give you things to do as you go along. That's what I want from the Souls series, and that's why DS3 is my least favorite. The combat is arguably better, the animations are better, but the world just doesn't have the same spark. It doesn't intrigue me, make me want to dive in headfirst and immerse myself. It feels like they put the combat first and made the world second, and it just isn't the same.
I've yet again descended into the rabbithole I'd playing all 3 dark souls games and then obsessively watching a ton of videos and reading a ton of Reddit threads about dark souls. And man, DS2 slander really pisses me off. DS2 is my overall favorite dark souls game because it's unique. Even if it has a lot of gameplay flaws, atleast they actually tried something new. DS3 basically just took Bloodborne combat, took all the cool parts like healing and damaging limbs and then put it into dark souls. Giving us infinite stamina and making combat more reaction based turned combat from the slow methodical combat of DS1 and DS2 into a generic hack-n-slash spam R1 and panicroll through 99% of the bosses deal. And I fucking hate that everyone just ate it up and signaled to Fromsoftware to lean into it even more in Elden Ring.
And while DS3 might be a better game in terms of gameplay, if only because it's just a much more modern game and DS2 really did fuck up with ADP and making combat animations too floay, in terms of lore it's literally just repeating the lore about the cycles form DS2 with a bunch of DS1 fanservice, it doesn't actually add anything new. You can play DS1, then DS2 with DLCs and then immediately jump in Painted World and Ringed City DLCs without playing base DS3 and you won't actually miss any major lore, it's insane how little new stuff base DS3 brings to the table. And the way they did references to DS1 is absolutely fanservice, Its actually wild how the B team without Miazaki actually stayed more true to dark souls storytelling then the fucking A team with Miazaki. DS2 actually had a ton of references to DS1 despite all the mouthbreathers on the internet saying DS2 basically only connected to the franchise through its name. It just did those references in the same way DS1 told it's story - through scraps of info hidden in item descriptions and throwaway dialogue lines from npcs. DS3 on the other hand just literally hits you over the head every 15 minutes with blatant DS1 references. For fucks sake, one of the first NPCs you meet in the game is the damn Andre.
Overall, DS3 is only saved by the DLCs. Without them it would have been just rehash of DS2s story with bloodbornified combat and a bunch of DS1 fanservice. Which makes for a great game, don't get me wrong, but it's a shame they didn't do something new and unique for the last game in the series. The DLCs saved the game for me, even if I'm kinda pissed they spent the whole game to retelling the lore from DS2 and then ended the whole series in a damn dlc.
