The character building in D&D 5e doesn't inspire me. I don't know how else to say it. I've only played a few 5e games and I've already started recycling characters because coming up with new ones just isn't that fun. Like, I still enjoy actually playing the game because it's a good time doing improv adventures with my friends, but I don't feel a drive to get super creative with it.
Meanwhile, I just spent 5 hours yesterday building a brand new level 2 Pathfinder character and then literally couldn't sleep because my mind was swimming in the possibilities and deeply inspired to come up with a backstory to match. And to be clear, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Something about the character building system is really fun to play with.

Love trying to figure out how to draw a nonhuman, non corporeal character. Like. HOW do you depict dry sarcasm without body language? Without facial expressions??

Listening to coinstar by the growlers and thinking about mel so hard I get nauseous
Ridiculous stream of conscious in the tags apologies but not really
#it speaks#white woman moment#its really funny bc like. its very much a her to jfk song#(everyones favorite problematic short king)#but she looks at him with uhhh#like heres this kid(hes 28) standing on the precipice o what she had been all those years ago#but he KNOWS it she didnt know she thought she had mold poisoning from her shitty apartment until she died#and she is projecting so much onto him. which is part of why she doesn't respect him at all#'im a sucker just like you'#its also funny bc like. it is Too Late for Phoenix.also its scary that theyre hungry bc as far as she knows death avatars arent supposed 2 b#but also theyre the first one shes met. and Phoenix is kind of just scary in general.#but being around those two is like. almost flashbacky(jfk also reminds her alot of her ex aroun that age tho audreys dad was Worse)#(she never met him but heard enough stories about the guy and i mean. he fed her to the hunt on purpose.#i dont think jorges dad wanted what was going to happen to happen)#part of why she texted her so fast tbh. not that they hadnt talked at all since the divorce.#i thinj they talked. not alot bc mel WAS in europe and international data rates pre smartphone age oof ouch#and also like. they did irrevocably harm eachother physically and mentally but they do both careeeeee#tho. i do not think melissa wouldve ever dropped everything to go help audrey like audrey would and did for her.#(girl who runs away from her problems x girl who is a dog)#auuughhhhhh#she really is my chew toy.#i also think alot about her sky mafia years but those r fun and sexy little secrets for me#as much as i love Basil's motw campaign i do with it was easier to unentangle her from tma lore.#bc like. normal vampire works well but it loses so much of the flavor. various sea beasts keep the flavor but loose the morality.#for pathfinder if i were to redo her id go with storm oracle and then spec into kineticist. which does work Ok I Guess.#but like. even that its still not what i want#one scene that probably would've never happened in game but i thought ahout if we ever went back to the item storage or maybe a wierd thrift#shop or something was to like. have her come across a violin and pick it up and make it scream horribly. like. really concentrate on making#it make the worst noise imaginable. shes trying to reach that wonderful horrible music avatars mention alot in the earlier seasons#and then realizes everyone else Hates That So Much and jokingly play one of the devil's riffs from tdwdg. tbh i should finally draw that

more niche aus! more niche aus!
anyway, binging Vox Machina made me think about this idea i had a while ago, where Hawke was a goddess of death and somehow, her most devoted follower and champion was Goodest Boy(tm) Sebastian.
He became devoted to her after he pleaded for her aid; his oldest brother had fallen deathly ill, and knowing that as the youngest son his life was not worth as much as the heir’s, he offered to trade his life for his brother’s. Hawke found herself touched by this mortal’s willingness to sacrifice himself for his family, though she held umbrage with his idea that his life was inherently worthless.
To prove him wrong, instead of taking his offered soul, she made him her Champion, and he has served her faithfully ever since.
other misc ideas:
Hawke was originally a mortal who ascended to godhood, but it’s been so long the details have been lost even to her. She’s fairly certain she had siblings. Twins, perhaps?
Sebastian originally followed a life/light god before vowing his service to Lady Hawke. He felt conflicted about it for a while, but he was always fascinated with Lady Hawke’s teachings, so he settled into his new role easily.
People are always shocked that someone with such a... wholesome and cheerful demeanor can follow the dour Lady Hawke so faithfully.
The other gods keep telling Hawke she can’t play favorites so brazenly. She keeps saying shut up and look at how amazing and handsome my Champion is.
Hawke is supposed to have a wicked cool mask shaped like a hawk’s skull but I couldn’t... draw that lmao. So just imagine it instead.
Other members of the Kirkwall crew are also gods.
Fenris: God of Wrath, the Patron of Slaves
Merrill: Goddess of Knowledge, the Lorekeeper
Aveline: Goddess of Order, the Lawbringer
Isabela: Goddess of Fortune, the Patroness of Thieves
Anders: God of Medicine, the Righteous Healer
Varric: God of the Arts, the Storyteller
They all have varying opinions on Hawke’s.... intense relationship with her champion.

NAH, but don't ask them to pay-- just ask them to provide their own dice, and ask them to pitch in for one of those dry-erase grid playmats to use whenever you're in a combat. Theater of the mind for the rest. Then for their character minis they can just start with like. Literally any toy or object that's about an inch square, until you guys are sure you like what you're doing, then you can invest in minis (feel free to DM me later if you want to know where to look). For the DM screen you can just put together a couple cheap school folders and pin on there some printed out cheat sheets for stuff you gotta know, and your notes.
As for books, if you have a LGS, then everybody pitch in together to buy one PHB and one DMG. If you don't have a LGS to support with your patronage, pirate that shit. Do not buy it from Walmart. Don't pay a dime for any of their digital shit. Wizards of the Coast can suck a fat dick.
And have fun! Your experience probably won't be like in all the podcasts and movies, but it's still a lot of fun. And then once you're sure you like TTRPGs and stuff, switch to Pathfinder 2e at your earliest convenience
WIBTA for asking my friends to pay me for DMing?
Maybe a weird situation but hear me out. I (22F) really really love DND. I listen to shows like NAADNDP and CR and D20. I’ve played in a lot of online oneshots and tried finding a local group to play with but haven’t been very successful because between classes and work I’m always too busy.
A couple days ago in a discord movie night with my friends (all early 20s) we watched the DND movie, and my friends were super into it and kept asking me stuff like “Is this from the game? Can you really do that in the game? Was that a good dice roll?”, just being really into it. Later one of them asked if I would maybe DM for them. I was SUPER excited as I’ve always wanted my friends to play DND with me but never pushed cause they didn’t seem too interested. I said yes without a moment’s hesitation and started planning. But in the middle of planning I realized how much I really needed to buy. I’ve never actually done DND in person. At the very least I need a dice set, plenty of paper, something to use for maps, something to use as a screen- even if I forgo minis and the books and the modules and all that expensive stuff. Not to mention I would need to take time off work, because right now I’m going to classes 5 days a week and working 6 days a week and that 7th day is for staying at home in bed recovering only.
So I was wondering: would it be considered a dick move if I were to ask my friends to give me a bit of cash in return for DMing? Obviously not enough to replace the lost income from work, but maybe like $20 each (from 5 people)? Or maybe ask them to help buy some of the materials I need? I’m afraid to ask and scare them off the idea of playing, because I wanna play soooo bad, but also I am very much broke and might be putting myself in a bind if I try to do this all by myself.
What are these acronyms?

Okay so now that my gaming computer is working again I'm working thru Gale's quest finally and wow. OK.
So I still A: don't like Gale and B: don't really care that much about his personal drama with Mystra HOWEVER his rant about how the gods are selfish and have basically abandoned them in this conflict is such a great foil to Panic's devotion to Irori. Who I know doesn't exist in this universe bc Irori is part of Pathfinder's pantheon and Panic is my *Pathfinder* character and not necessarily DnD compliant BUT STILL.
Didn't expect Mr Annoying Wizard Man to directly challenge Panic's faith right as he would be just barely about to touch perfection and become enlightened himself. What a good moment of doubt for him- and of course it comes from the least liked companion.

Also the comment about "People who want romance in rpgs are annoying" made me again realise how people who say that just don't get it.
I think I made a post about this years ago about how it's not just romance, it's part of it but the main thing I think people need in rpgs are better relationships between the people in the game. We need different kind of companionships because how else could you include your character into the world.
I felt like this in Original Sin 2. Sure my character was present but she will never be as cool as the written characters Larian created. She was like part of the world but also not important to anyone. Which is I guess ok to use as a narrative method but it feels more like a joke and a bit empty at the end.
Since I finished Pathfinder WotR I guess I also can include it as a good example why relationships are important for the roleplaying part. Not all of them were good but some actual gave me the freedom to establish my characters personality.
I think in that Awoved interview they said the game will be like Outer Worlds or it will have the same scope. Well I for example can't remember if I even had any kind of companionship with my companions in that game besides Parvati who you can create some kind of bond by relating to her or helping her in a very personal quest. I can't remember a single thing about the other companions besides the banter they had between each other. Why can't we be space buddies?? (I have more memories about being buddies with Alistair from Dragon Age and that game is centuries old!)
The other thing from that interview is this part:
The companions in Avowed will be tied more tightly to the story than in previous games, apparently, and the team wants to make sure they hit their story beats without confusing the issue with relationships. "We wanted to make sure that we were paying that off and we didn't feel ready to do romances as well," Patel says. "Especially because it gets kind of awkward if you're trying to save the world together and then you've broken up but this person is still travelling with you."
First thing it sounds like they are doing the Larian thing where they wrote cool OCs and you are their sidekick who leads them to becoming a god or something. Which is ok but do I really want to play a husk of a character?
The other thing is they did relationships in Deadfire before and I get it's a lot of work but again with the acquisition you would think we could expect more but alas. I think it would be more genuine to say no one wanted to make romances so we didn't.
The other other thing is why is it established that we need to romance companions? We spend most time with them but when they are in the way then some cool side characters who are outside of the main story but have their own thing going on are fine too?! Since when did games start to make only companion relationships/romances🤔
Like I said before I trust Obsidian to write a good story and the game will be fun just wish they wouldn't need to paddle back with the expectations which were created.
I also honestly wish people would stop and think a bit more why rpg players want deeper bonds with characters instead of calling them annoying and being happy they aren't part of the fandom. Less people who enjoy your games the less likely you will get games.

i am going to finally start posting what I’ve been working on!!!
my girlfriend and I have been world-building together for a homebrew pathfinder campaign that she started running for us and some friends- this is a character i’ve had for 3 years now, but only really started developing her story and whirling her around in my brain at mach speeds in the last couple months or so
i’ll put some lore and a couple other sketches under the cut. i’m also going to try and set up a queue for the other art and sketches i’ve made for the campaign so far, so watch out for that!
--------------------------------------------------------
Have you heard of a whale fall?
Tumblr media
Imagine being a creature living on the bottom of the ocean floor- life is hard. It's cold, it's dark, food is scarce. Suddenly, a giant, incomprehensible being floats down from the heavens. You and hundreds, maybe thousands of organisms clamor to the remains of the beast, a sudden beacon of prosperity in this wasteland, desperate to get even a scrap of its of life-giving nutrients. Every creature that partakes will have a piece of that being inside of them forever- fueling them, giving them life, becoming a part of them. Do you think these creatures would worship such a being? Would they consider it a god? Salvation? In the world of Omna, remnants of old gods past have fallen down from the divine realm and settled in the mortal plane. Their remains are what have created the landscapes of this world (mountain ranges, valleys, islands, etc). Mortals who live and dwell upon the remains find themselves changed slowly throughout the generations- changed by the faint fragments of the gods lingering power. --------------------------------------------------------
ok. now for my character Name: Felise Pfeiffer (Fell) Age: 19 Class: Cosmos Oracle Background: Scholar (Arcane) Felise is a cosmos oracle- which means her powers come at the cost of a curse that slowly takes over her body. Instead of something like stars, I wanted her curse to appear as this sort of.... corrupted, glitchy, chaos-y aura. It's very closely tied to her emotions, so when she gets really worked up, the static progressively expands around her. After she was "cursed", if she let her emotions get away from her, she risked hurting herself or other students at her academy. In order to avoid becoming a threat to the other students and faculty, and ultimately getting kicked out of school, she devised a number of strategies to help keep her emotions in check. (mechanically this is her settle emotions/refocus action. I'd like to think she uses the time to focus on slowing down her breathing. She uses her dancing lights cantrip to help- i imagine her spinning the lights around in her hands meditatively, kind of like baoding balls if you know what those are) (also yes, her curse magic manifesting is the equivalent of a panic attack) She's covered up a lot of her body to try and hide as much of it as possible, but her hair is always a dead giveaway. She leaves her fingers exposed since it's easier to channel magic through exposed skin (gloves, unless made of a special magic-conducting material, tend to dampen spells just a bit) - but this means others can see her fingers start to shift into static as she uses her cursed magic. I had a lot of really intense anxiety in junior high/high school/college, so she's become a really neat vessel for me to conceptualize and process those experiences and emotions. But, like, instead of having undiagnozed ADHD and RSD she gets like. cool magical girl powers BIO: Felise was the sole child of local inventor and archeologist, Atticus Pfeiffer. Her father's lifelong devotion was to study and uncover the mysteries of the ancient winged people known as the Featherfolk, who had seemingly vanished some 1000 years before. She grew up in a cottage built on the coast of a mysterious bird-shaped lake, where she and her father would excavate broken murals, walls of hieroglyphs, and other artifacts that hinted at the lives of this forgotten feathered-society. Until just under 10 years ago- when her father mysteriously vanished. From then on, reports of strange attacks began sprouting up all over Aton and other neighboring regions. Attacks fronted by giant, chimera-like bird monsters that would descend from the sky to snatch up unsuspecting victims- carrying them away to some unknown in the sky. Felise did her best to pick up the pieces of her father's research- hoping to find the cause behind the sudden appearance of these monstrous aberrations, the reason for their attacks, and maybe, just maybe, where her father disappeared to all those years ago.
-------------------------------------------------------- you did it!! i give you tasty treat for reading my lore dump! even if you didnt thats ok, you must have at least clicked the read more and scrolled down. you can still have a little treat
Tumblr media
an unfinished reference sheet for her dad, atticus
Tumblr media
these are my girlfriend @im-ashl sketches - Skraaw, The Carrion King - the BBEG of the campaign, an Evil Bird who is Awful
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally some sketches of- whos this? the featherfolk princess??

hi! i'm really loving icarus, you're a wonderful writer! but i just had a quick question. i love the flock graphics, and they're super helpful! would it be possible for you to maybe list the species of birds for the main 'characters' of the story as well? you don't have to post example photos or anything crazy, but i think just a list like that would be helpful too. sometimes i forget who has what kind of wings, and i think having a list so i can google image the bird would be great.
if that's not something you want to do or don't have time to do or something, no worries!! i really appreciate you taking the time to write icarus in the first place <3
Oof I might as well do a general guide! I never thought a maxiel wingfic would spawn so many specific wing allocations but here's the general list:
Paddock wings in Icarus:
Current grid:
Daniel Ricciardo - Scarlet Macaw (colourful, nimble flyers)
Max Verstappen - Peregrine Falcon (raw speed, inherited from his mother)
Sergio Perez -Crested Caracara (a type of mexican bird of prey)
Lewis Hamilton - Greater Bird of Paradise (beautiful wing plumes, lovely singer)
George Russell - Blue swallow (beautiful metallic-blue feathers, scream like madmen when they fly)
Carlos Sainz - Spanish Imperial Eagle (white epaulets, very regal)
Charles Leclerc - White Dove (need I say more? Perfect white wings, exploited because they're pretty but so intelligent in pathfinding)
Lando Norris - Lucifer Hummingbird (Small, colourful, likes to hover in place)
Oscar Piastri - Little Lorikeet (One of the smaller types of Australian parrot. Very cute)
Yuki Tsunoda - Japanese Long-tailed tit (Photos should be self explanatory. They fly like ballistic missiles)
Alexander Albon - Crested Fireback (National bird of Thailand. Beautiful dark blue and fiery plumage)
Logan - Blue Jay (Commonly found in Florida. Blue, like Logan's current posting, and his eyes)
Pierre Gasly - Osprey (A bird of prey often found near coasts along the European shoreline, and Pierre is from Normandy)
Esteban Ocon - Black Stork (Tall, gangly, also migrates through France)
Fernando Alonso - Kestrel (a type of small bird of prey, hunts by biding their time and waiting then divebombing)
Lance Stroll - Snowy Owl (Lance is cuddly ok and I didn't want to make him a Canadian goose because that's his dad)
Valtteri Bottas - Bullfinch (Look it up. The picture is self-explanatory. The manliest of men)
Zhou Guanyu - Chinese Red-Crowned Crane (A crowned crane for the champion of the universe, as translates his name)
Kevin Magnussen - Raven (Viking. quoth the raven.)
Nico Hulkenberg - Crow (he keeps coming back. As wily as many of their bird counterparts but has a bad rep for being a bad omen)
Retired drivers or drivers not currently on the grid:
Sebastian Vettel - Swiftlet (Extremely good fliers, reaching up to 160km/h and pulls insane G-forces)
Mick Schumacher - European robin (Very cute. Universally liked. Same wings as his father)
Nico Rosberg - Eurasian Sparrowhawk (a bird of prey that hunts by ambushing before a high-speed, agile chase)
Jenson Button - Northern Harrier (hunts in a high-speed flight close to the ground, exceptionally good listeners)
Mark Webber - Cassowary (look up a photo. Just look at it.)
Kimi Raikkonen - Giant Albatross (King of gives no shits, flies very long distances without a care)
David Coulthard - Bush-Stone Curlew (White trousers!)
Romain Grosjean - Red-tailed Hawk (I chose the bird of prey that could best mesh with the phoenix metaphor)
Antonio Giovannazi - White-spotted Starling (Very pretty plumage)
Daniil Kyvat - Great Bustard (I honestly don't remember why. Distributes in Russia)
Nyck De Vries - Common European Sparrow (Small. Commonly found. Unfortunately often hunted)
Nikita Mazepin - Flamingo (Need I say more)
Sir Jackie Stewart - (Clipped) Merlin Wings (Extremely fast Scottish bird of prey. In-fic, Jackie was one of the generation of drivers that clipped their wings, permanently robbing them of flight)
Team Principals and people in the paddock:
Toto Wolff - Black Swan (self-explanatory)
Christian Horner - Golden Eagle (A bit pompous. Matches his hair)
James Vowles - Magpie (Utterly clever, not from any particular prestige)
Fred Vasseur - Partridge (Affable. Cuddly.)
Guenther Steiner - Shoebill (self-explanatory, look up a photo)
Cyril Abiteboul - Eagle Owl (something about his face is very Eagle Owl)
Micheal Italiano - Kookaburra (laughs when they shouldn't)
Zak Brown - Chicken (self-explanatory. Literally and metaphorically)
Andreas (mclaren) - Common Quail (short lifespan)
Mattia Binotto - Pigeon (wants to be as pretty and loved as Charles. Is a public nuisance instead)
Otmar sznafnauer - Peacock (Struts around, can't really fly)
Resident Bastard:
Jos Verstappen - Cuckoo (Cuckoos are brood parasites, and lay their eggs in nests of birds of other species'. The cuckoo parent therefore does nothing while other birds raise their young)

Hello There! 👋
I'm a fan of your blog and I noticed that you make video game recs.
I was wondering if it was OK to ask your opinion on Pathfinder: Wrath of the righteous, please.
I recently bought kingmaker but... I hated it. I suffered just to finish the prologue. 😭
The second opus looks "better", but I don't know if it's exactly like kingmaker ...?
I wonder if someone who hated Kingmaker could like Wrath of the Righteous? 🤔
Smooches, and keep spreading love about Wyllstarion! ⚔️🧛🏻‍♂️
IT IS ALWAYS OKAY!! I love to talk about the Pathfinder games also.
Regarding Pathfinder Kingmaker, I think the prologue is pretty slow. I admit I also sometimes push through it (I am replaying it now and I am in the prologue and wondering whyyyy). For me it starts picking up the moment I get my castle, but I always use toybox (or well, I think it has another name in Kingmaker) to make castle management easier.
I have to say the two games are pretty similar. Pathfinder Wrath starts with a lot more plot involvement, I think, but for me also it feels like the first two chapters of the game (ch1 and 2) feel a bit prologue-y.
I think if you hated Kingmaker because you get the kingdom you'll probably not like Wrath unless you get very taken by the plot. As someone who does not know the lore of Pathfinder, it took me more time to get curious about the Wrath plot. But it really picks up fast once you choose a path (end of chapter 2), and the plot is one of my favorite ones.
Do you remember what you didn't like about Kingmaker prologue? If it is how the plot seems very disconnected and impersonal, then maybe you might like Wrath more. But if it is more the mix of mechanics (map travelling, confusing lore/quests) then you might not enjoy Wrath!
I remember the polyamorous Regongar/Octavia/player relationship pushed me through EVERYTHING while I was playing Kingmaker :'D I love them. While I think Wrath has much more interesting plot elements and the mythic paths are amazing.

If you're willing, totally get if you aren't, would you rate the campaigns you've watched? Not best to worst but out of whatever stars? I'm just curious and feel like you'd have interesting answers.
Hey anon,
I must admit that unless I genuinely liked all campaigns exactly equally this still ends up being a ranking in that they're going to have different numbers of stars and some will have more. I will strive to explain myself though since that's where the interest is, but, spoiler: my opinion is a fairly common one and I don't know if you'll find it interesting.
I'm using the Goodreads 5 star system of 1 - didn't like it, 2 - it's ok, 3 - liked it, 4 - really liked it, 5 - it's amazing.
Campaign 1: 4 stars. I think the one-two punch of the Briarwoods and Chroma Conclave - half the campaign - is an incredible story, and greatly enjoy both the lead-in and fade-out (yes I know Vecna is the final BBEG but the emotional heart of the campaign is Briarwoods/Conclave). Perhaps because I've been thinking about the Drizzt novels again but it feels like the closest, most archetypal form of that kind of This Is D&D story. I enjoy all the characters, though some took longer to grow on me; the emotional beats and the relationships all hit (Perc'ahlia exceptionally well for me, but Percy and Vex are just characters who happen to be directly up my alley), and while the shift from Pathfinder to D&D shortly before airing/incompleteness of some of the world occasionally peeks through that's very minor. Fantastic campaign, would recommend highly.
Campaign 2: 5 stars. I think this sets the standard of what a long-form actual play D&D campaign can be. Without going on too long a tangent, I think the great thing about the medium of actual play is that it can go to places that something scripted likely wouldn't, and in doing so, show us something we (as consumers of scripted/written fantasy media) didn't know we wanted but desperately did. Campaign 2 does this; Worlds Beyond Number is the only thing that has shown that same potential that I can think of. I think it is character-driven in a way even D&D often doesn't get a chance to be, I think the characters are made with incredible love and care, and I think that in the end pretty much every single beat - plot, character, romances, worldbuilding - lands. When Critical Role stops airing longform campaigns, whenever that may be, I will be sad, but I will be excited to have the time to finally get around to a Campaign 2 rewatch.
Campaign 3: 3 stars. I like that having established this world in Campaign 1 and further in Campaign 2 we are threatening it in a unique way that could truly change it forever without destroying it, though it also may destroy it. I'm enjoying the plot: while it takes some time to settle, there is a domino effect to it that, while present in the other campaigns, is deeply satisfying due to its cross-campaign, years-in-the-making nature. I also think the role that Bells Hells plays within this plot is unique: whereas Vox Machina are already near-legends by the time their arc of reckoning comes about, and the Mighty Nein are by and large unsung, Bells Hells finds themselves as one piece in a vast machine, and that's a different perspective uncommon in D&D narratives that's fun to see. I have said in the past that I think the only thing holding it back from being...well, under this system, 5 stars, is the character creation process was likely lacking and did not adequately set up for the very intentional and structured plot. I maintain that is true.

ok yea i like crunchyness, my criticisms of 5e are specific things like exhaustion points and i hate that the fighter has a 18% chance of having a critical fail with 4 attacks or that a level 15 barbarian will fail a wis saving throw just like a lvl 2 barbarian.
however, i hate WOTC and really want to get away from dnd. Do you know any suggestions?
if you like crunchiness and just think dnd 5e is badly designed but (presumably) still like the high fantasy combat of it all and don't want to play something by wotc then i'd recommend pathfinder 2e or ICON !

I'd like to hear more about "acute problems in life-ruining mentorships / lessons in the advanced physics of self-sabotage" and "trapped-in-a-closet fic" 🥰
hi hi hi hello again!!! thank you so much for indulging me i am having way too much fun being given excuses to ramble about the wip pile
12. acute problems in life-ruining mentorships / lessons in the advanced physics of self-sabotage [placeholding multiple half-formed title variations on that theme] is the absolute dumping ground for every single Aleida / Margo mentorship related thought and emotion i had on second watch thru. suffers from... being a completely disconnected set of thoughts and emotions related to Aleida and Margo's mentorship i had on second watchthru haha. and from being very split in tone between some like, 'people on the outside looking in have gotten the completely objectively hilariously wrong impression about these two's relationship' bits (e.g. the multiple boyfriends who literally come in and out of Aleida's life across seasons 1-3 in direct reverse proportionality to how much she's working with Margo) and some more serious stuff (a la "You got in my head, Margo! Then never! Left! Your voice just... pushing me, telling me how to live up to you then shooting me down the second I was starting to succeed, over and over and over and—" which we'll call an excerpt of this one!)
13. trapped-in-a-closet fic is a margo/molly fic I actually really really want to finish!! the scenario is like right there at the end of S2 ok like it would actually make more sense if the reason that storage room was left open for Aleida to overhear Tracy and Gordo trying to make contact on the old comm was because that closet has a busted lock right??
honestly the only strugg with this one is trapped-in-a-closet is generally not the trope you apply on top of a situation as sad and serious as the end of s2 but listen you can get trapped in a closet for uncomfortably close-quarters grief and anger just as well as Other Things!!
start of the trapped-in-a-closet fic under the cut!
As soon as communication was reestablished with Pathfinder, Margo spotted Molly booking it out of Mission Control.
Mid-conversation with Bill, she briefly closed her eyes. She knew where Molly was going. Three of her astronauts might be safe now, but two were still unaccounted for. She had to debrief with Ellen, but made her excuses two minutes in, and went after her.
Sure enough, she found Molly hunched over the shelving, illuminated in outline by that staticky glow. Speaking on repeat: “Stevens? Stevens, do you read me?”
She said it three times while Margo hovered in the doorway, working up the courage to tell her it was no use.
When Molly’s voice broke on “Gordo? Tracy?” she stepped inside and closed the door.
“Hey.”
Molly’s head whipped around towards her. “Shit.”
She held up her hands. “Didn’t mean to sneak up. I can see you’re very focused. But, Molly. You saw the timer. Even if they made it back in, the damage they’d’ve taken in almost twenty seconds of hard vacuum? In the Lunar day?”
Molly glared at her. “I’m not giving them up for dead until someone shows me a damn body, Margo.” She leaned back towards the mic, voice harsh. “Gordo, if you’re ignoring me just to get even after I swapped out your liquor stash, so help me I’ll—”
It was heartbreaking, how Molly’s voice cracked just then.

It was the 19th November and you were resting a little in bed tired and stressed out by doing all the chores you were given by a home harmonizer robot your big sister(or mother) was recommended by a friend of hers. You just wanted to avoid that robot so badly since you just finished high school recently now but being the middle child, it’s not easy. Suddenly you heard the doorbell rang.
"(Y/n)! Someone is here to see you!" Your mother/adult big sister called out. "Oh, who could that be?" You asked and when you came downstairs, a nice brunette young man as in, your Naruto crush Izumo was at the door. "Izumo. What are you doing here?" You asked with hope. You developed a little crush on him since you binge-watched Naruto with your friends at their houses for weeks.
Izumo said "So basically, like, my best friend Kotetsu just helped me plan the coolest party of the year for my birthday next week on the 25th Nov, and yeah, I really hope you can make it. If not, I’ll probably film most of it to show you." He then gave you a light blue and lime green invitation for it. You just can’t believe it! 😃 your anime crush Izumo Kamizuki just gave you an invitation and invited you to his birthday party for the next week.
You gasped in happiness and need for freedom "Izumo, you don’t realize what this means to me . You are a glass of either fresh spring water or fresh sparkling mineral water in a dry, unforgiving desert." You’re a ray of sunshine in a sea of miserable, foreboding clouds." But your mother/adult big sister said "You can stop now, (Y/n). He’s gone." "Oh, well. Mom/(big sister's name), can I go next week?" You asked and begged "Please, mom/(sister’s name). Please!"
"I’d say yes, (Y/n), but is your homework done?" Your mum/big sister asked. "Yes, of course it’s done! Pathfinder’s in charge of my life!" You replied. Then suddenly "I strongly recommend saying no, (your mum’s name/sister’s name)." "Nobody asked you." You replied but you were scared when Pathfinder has been upgraded but taller walked two steps towards you.
"Relax, (Y/n). It’s only Pathy, new and improved." Your mum/adult big sister said to you calmly. "You upgraded again?" You asked in shock. "(mother’s guy friend's name) told me about it and I couldn’t resist." She replied. "You have to stop talking to (mother’s male friend’s name)!" You protested. "It wouldn’t be easily wise to let (Y/n) go to a birthday party on a school night." Pathfinder said. (School night for your younger siblings) "Is no the only word you know?" You asked the robot almost getting angry. Pathfinder then said calmly "No."
"You see that, mom/(sister’s name)? All he knows is no." You said sternly. "Try to look on the bright side. Pathy can help you help your younger siblings get ahead in math." Your mum/big sister said with a smile and walked into the kitchen. You chuckled "Get ahead in math? Oh, that’s just swell, mom/(sister’s name), because, y'know, that’s even better than a party with all the cool kids!" You said sarcastically getting mad. With that, the home harmonizing robot walked away to living room. Your smart older sister came downstairs "Ok, what are you planning, (Y/n)?" she asked while you were thinking. "Me? Oh, nothin'. Nothin' at all. I’ll just do what I’m told. As always." You said as you walked away. Your older sister was thinking what you were going to do next.
timeskip no jutsu to next week on the 25th of November (the same birthday as Sai) 10 ish at night
You and all of your siblings were sleeping in your beds and you quietly woke up and got ready for Izumo's birthday party, you did your make up, did your hair with a hair straightener and picked a cute party outfit of your choice and crept downstairs to not wake anyone. (If you plan to wear heels at a party, put them on after sneaking out of the house)
You were thinking when you saw Pathfinder charging up for the morning after. "Ok, now. How do I shut you off?" You then pressed the red power button on the charging console causing the charging console and the robot to power down. "Yes!" You cheered quietly and chuckled a little. "Looks like I got the last laugh, Pathy." You then creep out of the house after you powered down the robot. Or so you thought when Pathfinder powered back up while charging. "Baby mode engaged."
The robot made its way upstairs to yours and your siblings room and opened the door realizing you weren’t in your bed like your other siblings in their beds. He rings the alarming sound causing your siblings to wake up and jump out of their beds and says "Alert! Alert!" Your mum/adult big sister came in the doorway when she heard the alarm "What’s wrong, Pathy?" She asked. "Baby (Y/n) has escaped!" The apex robot replied. "Baby (Y/n)?" Your mum/big sister replied.
"Security protocol engaged!" Pathfinder then locked the windows then laser trapped your mum/big sister and your siblings one by one. " Lockdown engaged. Stay safe. I will retrieve Baby (Y/n)." The robot said as he makes his way from the house to track you down. "(Y/n)!" Your mum/big sister shouted.

You made your way to the address of Izumo's house as you could hear some music playing from a block away, maybe some Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg and 3OH!3 playing when you found the address and saw Izumo and the man same age as him with a bandage over his nose and dark black hair must be his best friend Kotetsu and the other third friend with Izumo and Kotetsu is Yamato who is a tall muscular built man with brown hair and wore a flannel shirt and some jeans with vans shoes.
"Gents, the birthday party has arrived." You announced happily and walked to the entrance of the front door. "Oh my God, (Y/n), you made it!" Izumo cheered. You let out a little giggle-chuckle combo "I wouldn’t dream of missing the festivities. Hope you saved me a dance." You said with a cute smile trying to be flirty but actually cute mostly. Izumo laughed "You’re so hilarious, you know that? Get in here!" He said inviting you inside. Then suddenly you felt the back of your hoodie being grabbed. You screamed as you were grabbed and being picked up by Pathfinder who unfortunately found you and tracked you down. You looked up at the robot "Pathy?" "Baby needs feeding." Pathfinder then fed you with a baby bottle, you resisted quickly "Pathfinder! What the hell are you doing? Baby needs to be put down! Put baby down!" You protested but the robot didn’t listen and did nothing but respond "Time for a night time feeding."
The boys had a slight shock on their faces seeing you get embarrassed. Then they had an idea.
"This is so cute!" Izumo happily exclaimed. "Adorable!" Kotetsu agreed. "Get the camera, Kakashi, get the camera!" Izumo called out to Kakashi who was probably inside the party in his house ready to get the camera. Izumo, Kotetsu and Yamato we’re smiling despite the embarrassment you are having.
"Uh-oh. Did baby wet her diaper?" The robot checked you thinking that. "What? No! No, baby did not wet her diaper. Why the hell would you say that?!" You said in embarrassment. "Baby needs burping!" Pathfinder then repeatedly patted your back to burp you as if you were a baby, even though you’re not actually a baby, you then let out a burp (stuck out your tongue at the same time). "That did feel good." You said. And well, the boys started laughing on how cute your embarrassing turn of events is. "Time for beddy-bye." Pathfinder then placed a pacifier (Brit’s and Aussies call them dummies) in your mouth which you then pushed out of your mouth. "Izumo! Just pretend this never happened! Never happened! OK?!" You shouted out loud for him to hear. "OK, (Y/n)! I’ll try not to, but it’s so cute and hilarious!" Izumo shouted back. "Aah! I’m never going to live this down." You said in sadness being embarrassed as Pathfinder carried you all the way to your home. And just dare say, that your mum or adult big sister was so relieved that the robot tracked you and brought you back and was worried sick about you so as punishment, you would have to do all the chores but mostly help your younger siblings with their homework and chores. And good news is that Izumo filmed most of what was going on at his birthday party then posted some pics and videos on Instagram the next time you meet again.
the end.
I was watching Alvinnn!!! And the Chipmunks and was inspired by The App episode and I know how everyone feels being stuck in the house and not able to go events like your friends parties and stuff. 🤭

hello, idk if this is the right place to ask but I'm going to be a first time DM soon (I think) and I'm looking for some advice? specifically about the premise of my campaign
for a bit of background I have never played dnd in my life. as a player or DM. but after watching Fool's Gold I realized hey! I have a story that could maybe be put into a campaign! (disclaimer: I am aware that I will never be Exactly Like a professional nor do I want to be)
the problem is. almost EVERY "tips and tricks for beginner DMs" video on yt and post on reddit or whatever has told me to NEVER homebrew a lot as a first time DM. which uh. . .oops
without spoiling anything (don't want to chance one of my players seeing this) it's going to be a mashup of dnd and a Super Mario AU that I'm starting to realize is much more of the AU than it is dnd-
the campaign would have completely homebrewed monsters, locations, spells and pretty much everything. there are even modifications to rules that some people consider "core". (e.g I'm replacing spell slots with what is basically mana)
I can go into detail about the plot in a follow-up ask but I would prefer if you answered that one privately
Hey, I’m honored for you to send this ask my way! Thank you!
First of all- there’s absolutely no reason not to go fully into homebrew from the beginning. You’re already doing something really important which is learning and getting interested in running a game by watching/listening to an actual play game. That’s a fantastic way to learn rules and flow of game by osmosis.
I homebrewed games right from the get go- though I had played as a player first in pathfinder. Creating a world or using a one and expanding and extrapolating it out to fit around the story you want to tell with your friends is incredibly fun and worthwhile and you can have amazing experiences doing it.
I think my advice would be two fold:
1. Jump in. prepare a one shot/two shot and do everything you want to try to do for a campaign but in a much more limited scope with a really defined ending. A small adventure in the world you want to play in. Get a feel for it and for your players, and learn and have fun together. Fun is the point- so focus on fun before rules.
2. In homebrew, and as a new dm take advantage of existing systems and stat blocks. You can reskin any stat block to fit your world. If you’re playing a version of 5e, use the vast array of free resources and things available through Creative Commons so that you can focus on your narrative and creativity. Mold the game to fit you and your players. This will sound a little contradictory to what I just said above but Knowing the rules and having a feel for the game makes it so much easier to break the rules or bend them in the way that is most fun for you and it takes the burden off of you as the DM of having to reinvent the wheel of a TTRPG system while also dming for the first time and crafting a world for your players.
I think your idea sounds really fun and I’d be glad to chat about it more if you want to send more asks or dm me, that’d be great. I hope it’s ok that I answered this ask publically?
