thinking about how Demeter 100% recognized Quasi when he joins the Jellicles, because she remembered the highlight of her time with Macavity being the little tom kitten who darted in and out of her room, delivering little treats and soft things to her and giving her a bright smile and making her laugh, the little tom kitten who she felt fiercely protective over and spent a single night curled around protectively the first time Macavity's anger was directed at him.

all Quasi remembers of Demeter is her warmth and the kindness she showed to him, letting him stay a little extra longer in her room when he made a delivery, asking him questions about his day, laughing at his silly little jokes, cuddling him close the night he lost his tail as he tried so hard not to cry, but found that she didn't mind if he tucked his face into her fur and sobbed silently.

so when Quasi shows up, and Demeter hears the same silly little jokes, and when he hears that same warm laugh, and hears her warm voice call out to him, it's all he can do to not fall apart.

she's the mother Quasi never truly got to have, and if you ask anyone, Demeter proudly says that he's her oldest child, he's her kitten, has been since the moment he stumbled into her room in Macavity's lair with a bird in his paws and a bright grin on his face.

i turn 24 today. To celebrate, I made this comic to be a spiritual successor to lead balloon, a comic in which I talked about the darkest period of my life so far.

A lot has changed since my 23rd birthday and this one. My priorities have shifted a lot, in ways that I think are mostly good. But i think the best part about today is that suicide has gone back to being a far away notion. I'm really lucky, and I'm grateful for that.
