Better Prepared

Three weeks had passed since James’s encounter with Zim. The vampire had been busy.

However, it wasn’t all leisure. The pestering child named Dib had been a persistent nuisance. Every few days, the young boy, who seemed to have an uncanny ability to track down his every move, had tried his best to challenge James. Dib was persistent, no doubt, but also reckless in his pursuit. The child seemed to believe James was just another alien or supernatural oddity to be uncovered and exposed. In fact, James had spent more than a few occasions ducking into alleyways or scaling buildings to avoid the little nuisance, whose obsession with proving the existence of the paranormal made him particularly dangerous when it came to dealing with beings like James.

Only the little alien understood what he was going through. Ah yes, Zim. His thoughts occasionally wandered back to the little alien—especially after the oddity of their first meeting—he hadn't expected to run into him again anytime soon.

The evening air had a chill to it, a brisk reminder of the impending holidays. Flurries of snow beginning to fall. And with Winter, it was already dark, the early evening settling in faster than usual, as James casually made his way through the streets. The festive lights hung on houses, their glow reflecting off the snow that had begun to dust the sidewalks, a reminder of the human world's seasonal cheer. He hadn't been in the mood for holiday festivities—too many distractions, too many annoyances. He'd much rather find something to occupy his time in more… satisfying ways.

That's when he saw him.

Zim, unmistakable even in the dim light, trudging out of Skool with his usual paranoid, self-important manner. James couldn't help the smirk that tugged at his lips

"Well, well," James called out, smooth and teasing as he stepped forward, his sharp green eyes gleaming in the shadows. "Look who’s been a very naughty little alien." He paused, his grin widening at the thought. "I’m sure Santa's got a special spot on his list just for you. So, tell me, little one, have you finally managed to rid us of Dib yet? Or are you still working on your… evil plans?"

Clockwork would openly admit that he couldn’t see Danny’s timelines. Not since the moment he stepped into that portal and became something more. A child of Infinity, of the very Realms itself. 

But he’ll also admit that it always meant that the child surprised him all the time. This just happened to be a startling surprise, and an admittedly amusing one, even if Danny was openly complaining about the situation. 

“It’s not fair! You have to be able to fix this, right? Right?!” the ghostling, quite literally now, practically yanked at his cloak. “Clockwork, I was going to graduate, I can’t be two! Please, you’re the master of Time, you can fix this right!?” 

No, no he could not, seeing as young Daniel was in fact, immune to timeline machinations, doubly so for his own. To the ghostling’s open distress, which he did his best to soothe. What he could do instead, was stop time in his home dimension, and instead let him age back up again. 

Which the young halfa wasn’t happy about, but it was the best thing they had, so Clockwork supposed he had a ghostling now. A tiny adorable ghostling who kept pouting each time his much younger body had any sort of effect on his behavior. 

He’d never exactly had a ghostling before, nevermind one who was part human, but he would admit he honestly was enjoying it. Most time was spent alone, something he hadn’t realized until Danny ended up crashing into his unlife. 

Honestly he would openly admit that he absolutely adored his little ghostling. Who was now around four, at least physically, and had gotten into the adorable habit of curling up in the pendulum in his chest. Which was honestly the safest spot in Long Now, he’d admit. 

The singular issue however, with this habit, was that when someone attempted to summon him, they got his ghostling as well. And well, normally he could very much control himself for these summonings that happened every few hundred or so years, but well. There was a reason why even the Observants had stopped popping in the moment they realized he had a ghostling. 

Nesting ghosts do not mess around should they feel one is messing with their very vulnerable child, and really it’s not his fault the mortal cultists woke up and startled Danny. Perhaps deleting them from the timeline was a bit too far, if the other mortals rapid paling was to go by, but oh well.

Had the amazing opportunity to meet and talk with Tara Billinger (art director of Clone High and co-creator of Long Gone Gulch) ! She is amazing, as a person and her art, please go and follow her on Twitter~ :D

When she was talking with me, she said that Phil Lord was pretty pissed that the show was cancelled, and is pretty serious about bringing it back in some way. He wants another season, but might even do a movie. Tara was saying that because of his influence, there’s a high possibility of him getting his way. It will probably not be with HBOMax, BUT it will most likely be the same team that worked on the last two seasons because that’s how Lord and Miller work; they like to keep the same people.

Anyways, thought that was pretty good news for Clone High fans, so let’s see what the future brings! :D

Love the thought of Leo just casually being well traveled to absurd degrees. Like one day they’re facing their new Big Bad of the year and like, Draxum or whoever says that the key to their fight is located somewhere in, like, Latvia or some place, but no one knows where to start.

Then Leo’s like “oh I know a place” and when asked how the heck he could know of one it smash cuts to Leo falling through the ceiling of said place due to a portal mishap.

Also love the idea of Leo, being as accidentally (and then later, purposefully) well traveled as he is, sometimes taking his family on outings to different places all over, maybe to some new Yokai spots he found along the way.

In these places, Leo 100% lets his bros get scammed by tourist traps.

solarflare is the hip new hero on the block, with a myriad of powers and an almost alarmingly carefree attitude. the sole survivor of her alien planet, andersen, she's ended up making earth her home, and she'll gladly do anything to protect it. when not out fighting crime and saving the world, she's jane "joy" ray, working her day job as a photographer for the newspaper the train of thought, alongside her coworker she often does joint stories with. and while she's good at her job, she's a bit of a klutz and often absent...especially when a breaking story about solarflare is hot off the press. what gives?

speaking of...samira sage is one of the most renowned reporters at the train of thought, as well as the most patient. she's got a near innate ability to hone in on the emotional core of each subject and carry out thoughtful, poignant conversations with her interview questions. it's that very patience, though, that's gotten her assigned to looking after ray. she claims it's "just her luck," but maybe she's also choosing to stick around. not just because ray's sunny disposition has started to grow on her, but also because she thinks she just may have a lead on solarflare if she keeps at it. there's just something about her...

and that's not even getting into kuiper, solarflare's sidekick! originally a college student, xenia merak, who gained super speed from a freak lab accident, she has big dreams of being a hero of solarflare's caliber, but still has a lot to learn about what it means to be a hero. her ambition and enthusiasm more than make up for it, though! or often just land her in trouble. or both! she was the first (and apparently only) person to figure out that jane and solarflare are one and the same. and after sol got over the initial shock, she ended up greatly appreciating that she has someone she can confide about this sort of stuff with. xenia usually hops around from her dorm to headquarters, crashing at either intermittently. sol's home is kind of like a second home to her. they're an odd pair of roommates, but xenia always has her back! plus...it's nice to finally stop feeling like an outcast.
