Possessed by the spirit of Lauren in terms of how many times I had Nando’s this weekend but not in terms of how early I will get to the airport so here’s a long VHS post while I wait for my flight! (with spoilers if you don’t want to know any differences for this year’s show)

I know I already talked about this but where else do I start but with their parents 😭 I know his parents do travel for shows (waited right behind them in line for Spies 54 Below) but when they weren’t at TCBoB I figured it was so unlikely they’d be at VHS, and I honestly hadn’t even considered her parents even though it’s not as far for them to travel. But I look up and there they all are talking in the lobby (his dad also went and talked to her parents the entire intermission the first night and then of course they were all talking when they were sitting together and we won’t examine how deep my parasocial relationship goes that that makes me so soft). Also, their moms were just chatting away to each other when they came into the bathroom while I was drying my hands and I’m so grateful I was done so I could get the fuck out of there before I could say something embarrassing like “I love your kids”). 

As much as it was a huge distraction (for the second time!! I was already watching his parents more than I should have been at VHS 21) it was so fucking cute that they were there and made for some cute moments. Lauren smiled at his parents when they were facing them at the top of the show. Her dad was smiling so much when she was onstage. I had to watch Joey’s mom cry at Priceless for a second time but that was made up for by the look she gave his dad when Lauren hit her high note (truly as proud as if she’s their own kid!!! 😭😭) (Lauren’s dad may also have cried). Those first two shows were extra surreal because of that. And I have to say, you see the way Joey’s parents are and it truly explains so much about who Joey is as a person and in his relationship (marriage 🥺).

But my god were the shows themselves so joyous. I will never hear any criticism of them doing this show every year because it couldn’t be more obvious how much they all love it. And I didn’t think it could be any better than last year’s but it was! (and not just because I only had to see Joey’s ring in the second act where it makes sense instead of the entire fucking show).

The new VHSmas choreo is so cute and fun and I love any extra Bred Gruelle and Spektr moment we can get. They all committed harder than ever to Whaddya Do I LOVED it. Cold cold streets is even cuntier than last year which shouldn’t have been possible but here we are. It really does give Lauren and Joey an excuse to be touchy in Act 1 as well as Act 2. There’s a moment they hold a pose and they definitely didn’t have a set one because Lauren was laughing the first night (she had her hand draped up on Joey’s head and he was holding her stomach and Brian was 100% third wheeling). They were slightly tamer other shows but she was holding his face and was holding her arm (and Brian was 100% third wheeling) and he did briefly put his hand on her stomach again in one of them). 

This year made me realise how much the show goes to pieces during Priceless but in the best way possible. There was not one single show where Lauren wasn’t giggling during that song, usually because of Jamie followed by Brian followed by Joey even though they’re all doing the same thing they do every time. Joey said “shpeech” every damn show, Lauren was staring Jamie down when she broke, the disgust Emily has for her son never gets old and Brian continues to commit harder to the bit. “Call 911” was funnier than it had any right to be (and I don’t think they knew he was going to say it the first night) and it was sad that the applause started so early he couldn’t say it one show even though of course I love Priceless getting the appreciation it deserves. If the spin is cut from the digital ticket again (it will be) I’ll be devastated. They’re so so touchy during this song, of course (but the hand on the ass really was too much Ms Lopez even if it was for half a second). And it’s so clear to see what a special song it still is for Joey and Lauren to sing together. Best part of the show couldn’t love it more and I’m definitely feeling so normal about the possibility of never hearing it live again.

But them as the Cratchits in general is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever been given and as phenomenal actors as they are it is really sweet and special to watch them doing something that’s so natural to them they’re not even acting at points. When they walk together during Christmas Day almost every show they would look at each other and the pure genuine love in that look was honestly fucked up. He’d also be stroking her arm back when they were standing together in that song but then in the final show they were holding hands and it made me want to cry! (like I wasn’t already crying at the show).

It simply would not be a SK show without some goofs. Lauren’s giggles were not limited to Priceless, there was the Grandmaland goof that was fucking adorable, as was the look between her and Joey after it happened. She was also laughing during one of the Final Ghosts like babe your son is dead pull it together. There was the show AJ almost fell off the block which happened to be right after I said “this has been really solid for a filmed show”. There was also a show where Ali’s mic wasn’t working for Cold Cold Streets but they were SO on it getting it switched out for Buy a Match that it was almost seamless which really does show how much, while we love the goofs and the charm that comes from knowing these are friends doing what they love together, they are PROS and they’ve been doing this for a long time and are very good at what they do.

I’m also so grateful we saw it as many times as they did because truly not a bad seat in the house. Front row for closing night was insane but sitting on the sides meant I saw a lottt going on backstage. Multiple times Joey putting his hand on Lauren’s back. Her touching his back passing him offstage. Him making her laugh and hyping her up before her entrance in Something Perfect. There was also the time I thought he might have been handing her her mask (which he did have) as they went offstage until I realised, no, they’re just…holding…hands. :) (as Bred and Gruelle mind you)

There’s so much more I could say about how special this show is and how incredible everyone is in it but the fact that I’ve seen it as many times as I have (and all under pretty insane circumstances) speaks for itself. I laughed, I cried, I had the best time, and I really hope they do it every year forever.

1. What was the first part of your wip that you created?

Okay I'm actually gonna answer this about two different projects because a) I bugged gabe to actually give me a project and he said disarmed sksksk but also b) I have an interesting answer for one of my og projects

Disarmed, first of all - this is a fanfic wip that I'm currently working on (we're on the last chapter now, hurrah!). It's an idea I had in 2021, and I had actually decided that it was officially scrapped/permanently shelved at the start of January....only for me to then sign up to the goreswap exchange and decide to write it anyway SKSK ONLY TO THEN STOP because it got too long so I wrote something else instead.

If you don't like mentions of horrible injuries, I'd recommend stopping here and jumping to the next post on your dash haha.

Disarmed actually originally came about from a very rancid dream I had where the Doctor and the Master were both found in a forest on an alien planet, holding each other's severed arms over their shoulders rip. And so, from there, I ended up drafting this Idea in my brain - and I had this EXCEPTIONALLY clear image in my head of the Master sewing the Doctor's arm onto where his used to be (which...kind of doesn't technically even happen in the story anymore but the imagery remained), and so that was the first thing I created. Which is - actually tell you what, I'm gonna throw that sketch that i did under the cut along with the rest of this answer in case people scrolling don't want to see mild cartoon gore haha. Also this post might get a bit long anyway

So in case anyone wasn't sure, the title is purely there for the pun and always has been hahah

For my og project though - this is a script that I'm not gonna say the name of because I submitted it to a BBC script call HAHA, but it's about a meteorite strike that causes a lot of problems, including giving some people dangerous powers. This idea actually started waaaaaaaay back when I was like, 16yo or so, when I wrote three songs that I wanted to make into a concept album. I'm pretty sure that the first one was actually one called Days Gone By, which I actually filmed myself singing here, back when I had long hair haha, although I think you could argue that the bones of We've Heard It All Before (which is now a complete song - and also YIKES I took this fast, baby taka what are you doing sksksk) came up before any of Days Gone By. How do I know this? I have a ton of old voice notes on my laptop. The interesting thing here is that Days Gone By is actually Plot C in my script and doesn't even come up in the episode that I wrote, which was the pilot, and thus only covers Plot A (Through the Dust and Blood, the third song which I did not film) and Plot B (We've Heard It All Before). Even funnier story - the idea for the original concept album which became the script was ALSO, like disarmed, based on a dream I had HAHAHA (but like, so loosely. I don't think any of the original dream other than the imminent meteorite strike has made it into the final project. Great jumping off point, though!).

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Gonna answer this one about my og WIP script, Onkalo, because this project has some original folk songs that I've written right at the heart of it - and so, naturally, I would have a rendition of Over Onkalo as the intro. I kind of imagine it like, a medley of an instrumental or soundtrack version, so more dramatic and orchestral, but with people singing the song coming in and out of it - and then it would end on just people singing the last line acapella as the rest of the music fades out and theeeeen - titles! Or something like that. If I have to go with a song that's already been written though, I'd probably go with maybe El Búho by Blanco White, or You Are a Memory by Message to Bears.

Okay so I'm a little late to the party and I don't think I've ever posted something here, but I saw the rwrb movie like five or six times since it's been released and I have things to say.

Might contain spoilers because I am unable to write a review that's completely spoiler free so be warned.

Okay so first of all, the book is one of my favorites and I was so hyped for the movie and the waiting nearly killed me but it was so worth it.

The movie did not disappoint me in any way, it was beautiful from start to finish.

Yes, they cut a lot of things from the books (June and Leo for example) and I feel like the thing with the emails could have been explained better, like who leaked them and how, but I feel like we all still know who did it.

The movie has a running time of exactly two hours (there is a little post credit scene so keep watching you guys!!) and I have to say that when I watched it for the first time, I was crying for one hour straight because the second half was heartwrenching.

Nick and Taylor totally understood the assignment, I couldn't imagine a better cast for our FirstPrince. The banter in the beginning was just so perfect, the cake scene was hilarious and I am so glad we get to see it on screen now. One of my favorite scenes is the one in the supply closet in the hospital where they properly talk for the first time and the friendship starts blooming.

The filmmakers visualized the texting between Henry and Alex in a very cool way, I won't say much because spoilers.

I kinda missed Alex's bi panic after Henry kissed him, in the book it was way funnier, but I understand that you can't include every little detail in a movie and it was a bit fast paced but still, it was perfect.

Matthew Michael López said they would not hesitate to show how two men have sex with each other, and even though you don't see very much (because it's no porn obviously) the scene when Alex and Henry first sleep together is both sexy and romantic, but not in a super erotic way (I don't know how to describe it it was just very beautifully made in my opinion.)

My most favorite scene in the book is the one where Alex storms into Kensington Palace to tell Henry that he loves him. Now in the movie it wasn't exactly like in the book, not so wild and chaotic, but they used a lot of the original quotes from the book and Nick and Taylor absolutely killed it. They were crying, I was crying, I think the whole world was crying and you could see that they were really feeling what their characters felt. It was just perfect.

The scene in the V&A was also perfect (I feel like I use that word a lot but honestly, the whole movie was perfection). They didn't dance to your song but to can't help falling in love with you instead, and in my opinion it fits so much better, I was a sobbing mess when they played that song, and Alex saying „History, huh? Bet we could make some“ out loud just completed the perfection of that scene.

When the emails got leaked the whole affair was a little cut short but you could still feel the hurt and devastation that Alex and Henry felt, and Alex's speech in the White House had me crying my eyes out. Same when the two of them talk to the King and there are hundreds of people infront of Buckingham Palace weaving pride flags, I don't think I've ever cried this much.

Election night was also a little cut short and I am realizing now that I kinda missed Liam too, he was a funny guy in the books, but the very end where they go to Alex's childhood home in Austin stayed true to the books.

This felt like writing an analysis for school, but I think I coverd everything I wanted to say.

That movie is beautiful. Maybe very different from the book at times but beautiful nevertheless.

a/n: ok so i figured i’d mark my return to posting with a lil floof for the soul :) before i ruin it again :) so here u go here are two idiots being idiots :)

Oftentimes, it was easy to forget just how many members NCT had amassed over the years.  With the sub-units separated the majority of the time for their own promotions; the odds were that if you weren’t in a sub-unit with another member, you’d rarely interact with them outside of the company walls. 

NCT2020 was incredible in that sense. Twenty three boys and one girl, all in one room, singing the same songs and performing together. The impact left on the spring-flooring when they danced as a group physically shook the mirrors. 

They had a reputation to uphold; something which every single member took as seriously as a blood oath. 

Aria, over the years, had formed bonds with most of the other boys. She hadn’t really had much of a choice in the matter; it was either, make friends with the people around you, or have no friends at all. It was lucky, in that sense, that they were all so warm and welcoming. She found her home in the 127 dorms, and later, her family with the Dreamies. She wouldn’t trade it for the world. 

The fact remained, however, that when it came to Aria and WAYV - there was a gap. Be it because of the differing promotional schedules, or the fact that SM had point blank refused to acknowledge WAYV as a sub-unit of NCT up until the announcement of the NCT2020 promotions; the bottom line was, Aria didn’t know half of the members beyond their first name.

So, when the randomized name selection came out, and she was paired with Xiaojun; Aria took a deep breath, and reminded herself that this was a chance to start to form some new relationships.

She’d never been all too good at making friends as a child - always a little too shy, and then all of a sudden far too abrasive in a lost attempt to compensate for her earlier quietness. 

Sitting beside the boy in question, Aria left her hands tucked beneath her thighs to prevent herself from fidgeting. The air between the two vocalists was thick; and Aria found herself looking around desperately for Mark or Ten or hell even Yuta, even though she knew Dejun was significantly more scared of him than her.

Anything to break the awkward, stifling silence that was hanging over the both of them.

“Do you-”

“Hey, I-”

They turned to face each other at the same time, sentences blending together before being cut off abruptly. Aria’s face flamed beneath the foundation, and by the darkening tips of Dejun’s ears, she could tell his cheeks were flushing as well. 

“Go ahead.” He gestured with a nod. 

“No no, it’s okay! What were you saying?” Aria disagreed. 

“Uh, I was just wondering if you feel the breeze as well?” Dejun questioned, hands coming to tug his light jacket around his shoulders tighter. “It’s giving me goosebumps,” He laughed lightly, rubbing the back of his neck. 

Aria frowned. “No? It’s quite warm in here I thought.” The pair were surrounded with several lamps that were shining large bulbs onto their faces. With the heat from them, and the blanket that she had tucked over the legs, Aria was toasty warm - but a quick glance at the thin material Dejun’s jacket was made out of had her untucking the corner and folding it out again. 

“Here,” She offered, holding out the edge of the blanket. 

“Oh no I can’t,” Dejun began to refuse, but a shiver ran down his spine, cutting his words up into pieces. 

Aria raised an eyebrow. He relented.

“Thank you.” He acquiesced, once the soft material had been laid over his lap. He was still shivering lightly, but the body-shaking tremors had worn off, so Aria was better pleased than she was a minute ago. 

“Okay!” A voice called from outside the set. “It’s just an interview, like you were both briefed. Feel free to take it where you want and - Aria can you just -” The director gestured to Dejun. “Don’t sit so far away, people will think you’re scared of him.” He teased. 

Coughing lightly, Aria scooched towards Dejun, the blanket bunching up in-between their legs. She could feel him leaning back slightly, as if he was afraid of their faces being too close together. 

“Little more.” He insisted, now peering at the two through the viewfinder of the camera. 

Aria shuffled into the middle of the set’s sofa, her knee lightly brushing Dejun’s thigh. 

“Better! Now just don’t look like someone’s about to shoot you.” 

Aria opened her mouth before schooling her expression back into something less, terrified. “Sorry!”

This close, she could see the light flush that sat high on Dejun’s cheeks. His eyes were slightly glassy, and his chest was moving at a moderately quicker pace than it had been a few minutes ago. 

Aria placed a hand on his arm, lightly, patting the exposed skin where he had rolled up the sleeves. 

The filming went as well as it could. As they were told prior to entering the set; it was just a couple questions on how they were getting on together as a group, what it was like performing as a mix of all twenty three members, recounting some entertaining tidbits from the practice room or from behind stage. 

Over the next hour, the icy feeling that had surrounded the two vocalists melted into a comfortable conversation, soon drifting away from the interview questions and flowing sweetly into a little chat that czennies were sure to adore. 

With Dejun now turned to face Aria completely, and Aria sitting back with her shoes kicked off and her feet tucked beneath her; they were solely focused on each other; like the cameras had stopped rolling a half hour ago (They hadn’t) and they were old friends, catching up (They weren’t).

Aria learnt that Dejun had a penchant for green tea lattes, and the number eight. He slept on the top bunk, and was a lot funnier than his members gave him credit for. 

Dejun learnt that Aria was a lot more accident prone than her ‘professional image’ would let on, that she has a dimple on her right cheek when she smiles, that when she smiles she beams - bright enough to beat out a lightbulb - and that her favourite colour was yellow and she still looked at the stars when she got homesick.

Aria learnt that Dejun wanted to travel to Paris one day, that he wanted to learn how to bake bread properly and that he stayed up too late playing games only to regret it the next morning every single time. 

Dejun learnt that Aria had an addicting laugh; and he wanted to hear it as many times as he could. That he wishes she’d let herself laugh for longer; that she wouldn’t lift her hand to cover her face as she giggled.

His cheeks flushed brighter, the tips of his ears now a bright red. 

“Dejun? Are you alright?” Aria leant forwards into his space, her face moving closer to his. She had noticed the poor boy’s flush over the course of the last hour; but the pink was slowly becoming a deep red, and her concern was deepening with it.

Dejun immediately pulled back; floundering. “Yeah! Yup, yes, absolutely fine.” 

“Pardon?” 

“I’m doing wonderful! Are you alright? Aria?” Dejun flipped the question on her, sweat beginning to bead beneath his fringe. 

Aria squinted at him, relenting. “I’m okay, yeah. Are you still cold?” 

“No!” The reply was sharp, and she jerked back a little. 

“Oh- okay- sorry?” Aria pulled her bottom lip in between her teeth, worrying the skin lightly. 

Dejun could have punched himself in the face, but he settled for pinching himself beneath the blanket where it was out of sight.

“Aaand, cut!” 

The two vocalists turned to the director who was grinning madly. “That was perfect, you two. I don’t know what you did, or where you pulled that from, but you’re definitely the best duo we’ve had in here so far.” 

Aria didn’t think that was hard, there had only been two other groups in before them, but she kept these words wisely to herself. 

“You’re both free to go! I’ll expect to be seeing a lot more of you together though, this is going to go down an absolute treat.” The director’s smug little grin reminded Aria of a cat who had gotten the cream; and her own little grin formed to match it.

“Thank you,” The two bowed lightly towards the staff, before collecting their things from the set and shuffling towards the door again. Once outside, they were silent again - but this time the lack of noise was not unsettling. 

“Hey I-”

“What about-”

Dejun and Aria looked at each other momentarily, before bursting out into laughter. 

“Okay that has to stop.” She giggled, hand coming to rest on his arm. 

“Agreed,” Dejun coughed out, ears flushing one final time. 

“You sure you’re feeling alright? You looked a little flushed back inside; that’s all.” 

“Fine!” He squeaked. “It must have been, uh, the lights, or something. Yeah.”

Aria puffed her cheeks out, but made no further comment.

Pulling away, she slipped her feet into the runners she was wearing for the interview - uncaring as to whether or not she’d accidentally break the backs of them. They were old ones, anyway, ones she’d been gifted as part of a brand deal that had fallen through; no wonder, she thought, as the shoes really were all look and no practicality. They were the least comfortable shoe she owned - and Aria owned a lot of uncomfortable shoes. 

“’Til next time?” She straightened up, head turned to Dejun.

He nodded, going to extend a hand as Aria stepped forward to wrap her arms around him in a hug. 

What followed, was a painstakingly awkward hand-body-shuffle-jerk dance that left Aria’s face flushed red from embarrassment and Dejun’s desire for the ground to open up and swallow him whole growing to immense proportions. 

Eventually, Dejun moved away, waved, turned on his heel and borderline sprinted away back down the hallway before Aria had a chance to return the wave. He rounded the corner, slowing to a stop in anticipation of slamming his head into the wall. However, thinking against it, Dejun instead turned to put his back to the wall, sinking down against it; lifting a hand to smack himself in the forehead. 

“Idiot.”

K now let’s get to the serious talk, cause i gotchu babe, i’m a nurse(to be) so believe me this topic torments me as much as it does to you. Altough I’ve finally come to the conclusion there is no way to get this to make sense biologically (and God knows i’ve tried to come up with something). Maybe some jutsu that turns every Y chromosome into an X (and let’s ignore all the hormonal shit and the fact that oocytes come with us since embrionic stage) Sometimes it’s better to just forget about logic and take advantage of the fantasy context this world provides. I mean, fam has a demon inside of him, just let it be

So probs things got steamy during an undercover mission in which Naruto has turned into a female body and the ninja magic did the rest.

At the beginning he would be able to turn back normally (just bc it’s funnier that way) but around the fourth week he wakes up one morning and he’s turned back to female, yet he’s clueless of what’s going on inside of him. Then he would start with the symptoms, and it’s a living hell for both of them bc

-Naruto getting nauseous at ramen for the first trimester (and sadly it repeats on every pregnancy)

-Sasuke having to deal with an over sensitive and hungry Naruto that can’t have the meal he loves the most

Also the fact that Kurama’s right there all the time watching hell breaking loose is hilarious. The amount of times that he says “i told you it was a bad idea” is endless but mostly he just takes some popcorn and watches. Bc if it happens the first time because neither knew he could actually carry babies, it’s understandable, everybody makes mistakes.

Then, Risa chan is getting older and they decide to have another one, that it would be good for her to have a sibling to grow up with. It’s planned so everything’s alright.

Three years forward the third one comes, and alright, they weren’t planning that, but actually three children is a good number, and they were missing having a baby around, watching them learn how to talk and walk, oh what a beautiful stage. Here’s where things start getting hard to balance and they agree that three is good, three is enough.

Another three years later they’re at Ichiraku and Naruto gets suddenly nauseous at the sight of ramen and you can see the panic in their eyes bc that could only mean one thing (play this, minute 0:12)

(actually this song resumes their whole reproductive life pretty well)

But, you know, after a lot of panicking and running in circles during the first few years, they end up doing fine (well, most of the time) Plus Risa chan is the sweetest child and is always ready to help them out even when it’s just about having to behave herself or helping keep an eye on her younger siblings. Also when they were just three they agreed to not use clones unless it’s UTTERLY necessary, because they wanted to appreciate and cherish every life moment with their sweet children.

After the twins are born they are just like ‘fuck it bring the clones’. and it’s SO MUCH EASIER, thank you very much.

Then the twins learn the clone jutsu just by watching and hell breaks loose again.

Also, i don’t know if it’s obvious or not but Sasuke’s bun is bc he actually doesn’t find the time to cut his hair (not that Naruto complains about it anyways)

A few weeks ago all I could keep thinking about my lil early season headcanons because 1: I was lonely and ZR keeps my mind full, 2: I'm nostalgic for seasons 1-3 (spoilers up to s3). So I'll share some of the funnier ones here :). These are not in any particular order as I was just scribbling them down as I remembered them.

My Five had her tounge cut out, which is how she got to Abel, ect ect. So she mainly used pens and notepads to communicate, and sometimes a bit of ASL. The first time she signed "Thank you" to Sam, he thought she was blowing him a kiss and he stood there awkwardly until Maxine clarified what it meant.

Her first words (almost non understandable and muffled from missing that lil piece of muscle in her mouth) after the tounge incident happened during that one mission where Five had to jump on a moving train. The train pulls around to the crew, they ask why she looks so distraught, and she deadpan says "Life is a party and I'm the ✨fucking✨ piñata" (inspired by an incorrect quote I saw on here a couple years ago but I can't remember who posted it u_u) and continued to not say anything else until s3.

When she found and snatched a kitten mid s2, she assumed it was a female because she had only ever had lady kitties and didnt know males dont have super visible bits right away. One day a few months later, shes playing with kitten!Archie and she notices some 🏀🏀 growing. Horrified at her gross miscalculation, she ran to Sam (just ✨roomate✨ at the time) screeching. Concerned, obviously, he asked why she was so freaked out, so which she replied by scrawling on paper "Archie is an ArcHE".

She had godawful posture her whole life until the apocalypse. The end of such an era occured because Simon took personal offence to her slouching; and would physically thwack her (not too hard, but enough for shock value) with a ruler or stick if he caught her walking around town lookin like a dang question mark. She has excellent posture now.

Again, because of her lack of tounge, once she started to talk, it was mostly saying people's names at first to get their attention. But she couldn't pronouce S, D, N, or Js very well, (among many other letters) and some folks got accidental nicknames by Five. For example, Sam got turned to "Ham", Jody turned into "Yoie" and Janine turned to "Ahneen". Everyone was very nice and supportive and didnt make fun of the names they had been bestowed. Except Simon; who's named turned to "Hymen"

People think that Eugene and her would have alot in common both being Canadians, but they (affectionately) 😒 at eachother because they're from vastly different parts of the country (mostly that I HC hes a city boy and shes very much an isolated bumpkin). Despite their differences, they are good pals and like to scream sing Arrogant Worm songs at the top of their lungs as a past time.

Five has fallen in the comms/radio shack twice while trying to be helpful. The first time was after she got strep throat while in New Canton right at the start of S2, but it didnt settle in until getting back to Abel. It was a nasty cough and she felt half in the grave. She knew she definitely hadnt gotten bit, but was terrified of noone trusting her to not be a zombie. So she just continued on her buisness doing her best to not look like she was about to drop dead; until she was helping the radio boyfriends in the comms shack and just,,, collapsed in front of Eugene, Jack, and Sam, bringing down an array of equipment and some books with her. The second time it was sort of a runner group project to organize the mess in there, and she was tasked with untangling the wires. She was starting to hang them up higher and somehow got a foot stuck in the web, and very slow motion fell to the floor with a leg in the air, and everyone had to help her get sorted. Very embarrassing.

She cries. Alot. Normally its out on the field if something real bad is about to happen. The first time she audibly wailed within the gates, a few folks panicked and ran to her. Where she pointed and whimpered at a spider on the wall. Shes scared of very little but spiders are a deal breaker.

The way people knew for sure that it was Five infiltrating Abel under Moonchild's control was because her kitten was running after her in the bush, loudly yowling, and everyone put two and two together. Cover blown via cat screeches 😔.

She gets overheated really quickly, especially while exercising. She sticks to a sports bra and pants, and no amount of cheeky commentary or lack of degrees in the air will get her to wear anything else. When Janine tried to get the runners to wear uniforms, Five became a pain in her side because she simply would not. Janine would catch her before a mission and make her at least wear the tshirt. But she would immediately fling it off once she got out the gates. Janine gave up, and the uniforms pretty much just became a formality for special events.

She puts up her hair with a sharpened stick. Both because she cant get the right hairties for her texture, and because it makes for a good concealed weapon in close proximity. But because they keep getting lodged in Zombie eyesockets or covered in blood/bits, she keeps collecting good replacment sticks whenever shes outside, so at all times she has a pile of loose sticks in her belongings.

She absolutely *refuses* to get her socks/shoes wet. She will stop mid mission, being chased by an angry, on fire zombie, sit down, peel her socks and shoes off, then go into whatever body of water she has to cross. Wet feet is a huge nono, she would rather get bit than have to run with w e t feet.

During the s2 mission clip where Sara and Five were running on top of the train, I got a "collected a pair of trousers", so the only logical explanation was that she got hit in the face with an airborne pair of pants and kept hold of them.

She gets very obvious mum privileges from Sara, and whenever Sam or one of the other runners need something from her, they get Five to ask her for them. Sara has no shame in showing favouritism towards her baby child, and Five definitely doesnt mind.

She keeps forgetting to put on sunscreen, and being as sickly pale as she is, she burns like paper under a magnifying glass. One day Sam had enough of her coming back from missions the same shade as the barn wall. Just before opening the gates for a supply run, he hustled outside -tube of sunscreen in hand- smeared a huge glob on Five's face and arms, and wouldnt give the raise the gates signal until she rubbed it in on all her exposed skin.

She's terrible at most games, whether it be not being to serve the ball if it was on a platter in a friendly game of volleyball, or getting the worst rolls in D&D and her character losing all dignity; she is trash. But she kicks abosolute ass at Gin and Dutch blitz. In Gin she gloats and cackles everytime she throws her cards down, in dutch blitz everyone is horrified at her violent behaviour and unleasing of a lifetime's worth of internal rage through her tiny hands. There's been a couple finger casualties.

Being so young (a month from 17) when she showed up to Abel, and being really shy (tasty tasty trauma), everyone assumed she was really gentle mannered and sheltered. That is, until, the most disgusting and ruthless game of cards against humanity one evening. Noone saw her the same ever again >:].

So I spent yesterday nice and cozy in bed and put this off (good choice, tbh, I was very snug as a bug), but now, now comes the time for me to gush about some people in the fandom!  This is definitely not a comprehensive list, I have absolutely left some people out because I am very forgetful, but, in no particular order and under a cut because I’m a wordy bitch:

@tory-b: A delight and a dear, leading writer of monsterfucker!Betty, co-runner of @riverdaleprideandjoyzine, a legend and a friend, we have no choice but to stan.  Her stuff is so good and varied and just *chef’s kiss* a delight, two favorites of mine are Fangs/com/Match (Betty/dragon!Jughead meet via monsterfucker Tinder, has some great friendship moments with Kevin and Veronica and is v sexy and funny, features the horniest Betty) and Sticky Sweet Serenade ((past)-friends-to-enemies-to-lovers bughead, mixes up some statuses in Riverdale, excellent mystery, I remember reading it and going, “holy shit, a believable take on Northside!Jughead”).  I’ve also gotta mention Whats in a Name? (Betty and Jughead meet on tumblr, Betty writes poetry and Jughead is a shitposter, they slowly connect, it’s great) and To Balance the Scales (scientist!Betty/mermaid!Jughead, currently a slow build, I cannot wait for you guys to see the excellent worldbuilding she’s done).  I could keep going, or you could binge all her fics today, an excellent use of your Saturday, I assure you, because I’ve left a lot out.

@stillhidden: Always good for some great thoughts on the show, one of the best reasons for my your thoughts on Riverdale please show them to me tag, I get psyched every time I see a Riverdale text post or ask answer because I know I’m in for a good time.  Thoughtful and funny and nice, what a combo!

@satelliteinasupernova: So talented!  Author, artist, co-runner of @riverdaleprideandjoyzine, funny, haver of good thoughts on Riverdale is there anything she can’t do?  No, there is not.  Every time I see her art I’m like !!!, the colors! how well-drawn the hands are! the accuracy of their hair! the backgrounds! the way I can see the love in their eyes! I cannot even, there are no words.  Also!  Her fics!  So original!  One of my earliest memories in the fandom is reading The town called Riverdale (a sort of mystery about the meta fuckery going down in Riverdale, explores time loops, stories that control lives, the roles the Archie characters are “supposed” to have, a mash-up with concepts in Princess Tutu that requires zero knowledge of Princess Tutu) and going !!! is this a Princess Tutu mash-up?  Have I been #blessed enough to see a mash up between Riverdale, a story that fucks with archetypes, and Princess Tutu, one of the shows about fucking with archetypes and the way stories ontrol lives?  I was and I am and I raved to my non-fandom but Princess Tutu liker friend about it.  Has also wonderfully tackled eldritch horror in return to Eldervair and gothic horror/romance in The Lady of the Manor, does fluff, does angst, does it all, so go check her out!

@go-ldy: An angst and time skip queen, tbh, and always has some great thoughts on Riverdale, another reason I’m glad I have that tag.  Every time she answers an ask, I’m like, “Yesss, incoming Good Thoughts, I am HERE for this”.  But do not sleep on her as an author!  Into the Deep is some delightful dark!bughead, and I’ll walk with you in the shadows is such good time skip angst and a mystery and there’s a certain surprise I love but is a spoiler but you simply must read this, you must.  The Time after Time series is giving us that good angst bughead content that season 5 is not going to, and I’m so glad it exists and just thrilled that she trusted me to beta it.  I’m leaving a lot of stuff out though, so you should go check her out!

@milajovovich: One of the best gif makers in the fandom, I will fight you on this.  Makes absolute miracles with footage, the way she makes season 4 webrips look like they’re actual blurayrips is godly, they’re so crisp and so smooth and the coloring is always great.  And like, jesus, the way the bluray footage looks?  Fucking outstanding, the talent is off the charts.  Go marvel at their gifs, go, go.

@imreallyloveleee: A prolific, talented author and funny to boot!  loveleee is one of the people who has been here since the beginning, a mainstay in the fandom, and we are so, so lucky she hasn’t left.  How do I even begin to rec you some of her stuff?  She can write smut with fics like burn, baby (a 3x16 missing moment of bughead fucking in the car as the trailer burns, what a gift to the fandom, I can’t even), is queen of pining with fics like boy problems (season 1 post 1x05 canon divergence, a bughead get together but with that quality pining) and her i’m just a shot away series (two fics, one from Jughead’s POV and one from Betty’s, that are fully of pining and sexual tension and miscommunication and major teenage vibes, you gotta read them), and writer of one of the funniest fics in the fandom and one of my favorite, like spirits in the night (the core four + Kevin perform a seance to contact Jason Blossom and yes, it is just as funny as it sounds, perhaps even funnier).  And there are countless others, so settle in and go check her out because she does it all, fluff and angst too, I just don’t have time to rec them all.

@meditationonbaaal: Absolutely one of my all-time favorite fic authors, like across fandoms, the talent, I cannot even properly describe it, like the quality of the prose, amazing, iconic.  the devil’s daughter (a season 2 rewrite with some differences in season 1, jumps back and forth through time in the best way, has the best and creepiest dark!Jughead, has some great smut that includes dom!Betty and dom!Jughead can you believe we are so blessed, such a good rewrite of season 2, and you know how I love season 2, so that is some high praise, let me tell you) is easily in my top 10 all-time favorite fics across the many, many fandoms I’ve read many, many fics of, and you simply must check it out, you will not be disappointed.  develop, stop, fix just blew me away as a kink week fic of bughead playing with bdsm in a dark room, the layers, the smut, the trust, the feelings, I cannot even.  And doll parts!  doll parts is so good, just such an amazing take on drop dead gorgeous, a fabulous Jughead and Betty as per usual, dare I say even better than an already fantastic movie.  I am behind on loose lips sink ships, but I can already tell it’s going to be a great exploration of the Stonies and a great take on season 4.  Keep an eye on her stuff here and here, do not miss out!

@dieqohargreeves:  An icon and legend in gif making, just makes the most beautiful and intricate and creative gifs.  The coloring is amazing, the techniques are amazing, that shit is Art, I will fight you on this.  You gotta check ‘em out, you just gotta, I can’t do their work justice.

@sullypants:  The wit!  The humor!  The observational skills!  The talent, my god!  Sully is the genius behind @bettycooperoutfitwatch and @riverdalearthistory as well as a fabulous writer of both meta and fic, yet another excellent reason for me to keep up with others’ thoughts on Riverdale.  Her a comic miniverse series is so funny and sweet and such a great take on the Archie Comics version of bughead, and the after-party series (Betty and Jughead attend a, well, prom after party, and the events that happen, and I am not doing it justice, but it is v good, I promise) has such a great vibe and such great characterization.  And young adult friction (librarian!Jughead is in a kind of competition with librarian!Betty, it’s so funny and so great) is such a delight, and we do not have time to get into everything great she’s written, but go check it out here.

@lilibug--xx: The queen of bughead smut, can you believe she has graced us with her stuff?  It is steamy and it is in character and it is amazing.  Dark Cherry Chutney is still a fandom favorite of mine, just some great dark!bughead who are unaware of each other’s darkness (but oh, they find out!) as well as some excellent smut.  And Pressed for Time (Betty teasing Jughead with her skirts in an effort to get him to fuck her and he is barely holding on until he isn’t, alternating POVs in the best way) is sexy af but makes you work for it, it’s a delight.  And give you mine (Betty and Jughead fuck at work and it is so hot, I can’t even) is so goddamn good, just some of the best dom!Jughead out there.  Has also written monsterfucker!Betty, which you know I’m a fan of, in once upon a midnight (werewolf-hunter!Betty/werewolf!Jughead with sex pollen where she does not shy away from some wolfy-ness and it is hot af) and has written monsterfucker!Jughead, a rarity but always a delight, with reap what you sow (witch!Jughead/undine!Betty and Betty is so delightfully otherworldly and it is so sexy but also sweet), and there are countless other smut fics, we would be here all day if I went through them all, so you gotta check her out here.  One more thing though: she can also write fluff with Lemon Drops and Chocolate Chips, a sweet fic of Betty and Jughead as neighbors that you should definitely check out.

@thatiranianphantom:  Funny and thoughtful and talented and has correct opinions on musicals!  Writes such good explorations of post-4x17 (and post-4x17 adjacent) scenarios.  Like, the we are a masterpiece series is v good and so interesting, and no one else is singing my song is such great angst as a post-4x17 fic and a great use of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend songs.  I am forgetting a lot of stuff, I know I am, and I think I might be behind like a fool, so let’s go check out all her stuff together here, yes?  Yes.  Also?  Great for Riverdale speculation, especially about the season 5 musical episode.

@heartunsettledsoul:  So talented, queen of canon missing moments, and funny to boot!  I love reading her liveblogging of the episodes, and I cannot recommend her stuff enough.  Her Forgotten Moments series of canon missing moments is iconic, you must go read all of it, especially there’s witchcraft in your hips, a post-2x13 fic of Betty and Jughead being such teenagers and Jughead being a dweeb about his cheerleader girlfriend and I am not doing it justice but you gotta go read it, man, you gotta.  But the series is full of gems from the beginning with Midnight Silence (Betty and Jughead talk post-1x04 about the Grundy debacle and it’s such a delight) and going all the way through to the most recent it might’ve been a nightmare (a 4x12 through 4x16 fic that gives me a wide range of emotions and is fantastic) and your eyes look like coming home (Betty’s diary entries throughout season 1, simply inspired).  But she’s also so good at AUs!  a dark world aches (for a splash of the sun) is already looking so good as a bughead mystery with some varchie fun on the side, just some quality core four content, and won’t be the same (if you’re not here with me) is a favorite of fake dating, Christmas, and there was only one bed, just the best tropefest.  And there are so, so many more, so you must check her out here.

@lovedinapastlife: She writes such a variety of AUs, I am just in awe of them all!  The talent, I am amazed.  The dark!bughead in The Society is peak dark!bughead with a simply iconic yandere!Betty, and you are seriously missing out if you have not read it yet.  Oh, and there’s some more dark!Jughead with a side of dark!Betty in the key to harm(ony) that you must check out because it’s such a great ride and is sexy, what more could you want?  Every movie AU she does really takes the source material and makes it her own from works You Drive Me Crazy (but I'm gonna keep on loving you), based on Drive Me Crazy and definitely better than the movie, to the most recent to all the boys (but especially you), based on To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and just so sweet.  But also can write otherworldly fics like Heart’s Desire with genie!Betty and The Second Coming with fae!Jughead, as well as regular aus like Detention (Betty and Jughead in detention and it gets a little sexy but also quite cute), and pure porn like Eye of the Beholder (Betty and Jughead as sorcerers who hook up over sorcerer Tinder and it is sexy but also sweet), as well as some of the best ABO in fandom with her A/B/O Mine series (alpha!Jughead/omega!Betty in high school and holy shit is it hot as hell).  I am only just skimming the surface here, so definitely go check her out!

@kyloren aka @jughead-jones:  Mila is so talented at making gifs, like goddamn, and also so funny, but I bet you didn’t know that she also has written some damn good fic!  She hides it, but it is out there and it is very good, my favorite being let me hang my hook on your splendor, a fandom fave of a Scooby-Doo au that is so much more thoughtful and clever with its casting, and also very amusing, you must check out the rest of her stuff here.

@elizabethbettscooper: A delightful person and a delightful writer who is largely retired from the bughead fandom but still such a talent, like seriously.  Her Twin Peaks Riverdale AU The Past Dictates the Future is so good, you simply must check it out, like you must.  And yours was the first face i saw is such a fun AU of “what if Betty’s crush on Archie was a front for her crush on Jughead”, you must go read it.  And holy shit, her i may be bad (but i’m perfectly good at it) series is peak dom!Jughead/sub!Betty taking place when they’re in college and fucking in so many varied ways, like if you are into that, you must go read these fics, you must, you will have a great and sexy, sexy time.  And there’s so much more good stuff, you gotta go read it all here.

@bettycreeper: She does so much for the fandom and she makes such gorgeous gifs!  Like, the coordination she does on the @bugheadfamily server and @bugheadfanfictionawards and @riverdale-events and probably elsewhere cannot be understated, she is such a valuable presence in the fandom.  And have you seen her gifs?  Gorgeous quality, just gorgeous, and her movie poster gifs for fics are simply inspired.  Also?  She’s an amazing beta, just outstanding.

@stillscape: A very thoughtful person and excellent writer who I can’t seem to tag.  Dianthus Caryophyllus is still one of my favorite fics in the fandom, a high school bughead fic with some amazing pining from Jughead with an oblivious Betty, I can feel it, it’s so good.  And of course there’s Ninia, an amazing take on the soulmates trope, just so good, I cannot do it justice, you must check it out.  The for the life of me series is also such a good AU for Betty and Jughead getting together pre-Riverdale at a summer internship, I have such fond memories of it.  And la peste (the plague)!  So good, I cannot even.  We don’t have time for everything, except you should make time and go check all of it out here.

@theheavycrown:  God, where would we be without Sarah?  She does so much work for the @bugheadfamily and @bugheadfanfictionawards and @riverdale-events and @riverdalecentral and I’m probably forgetting some, tbh.  And so sweet and talented!  Her gifs are fantastic and so are her fics.  Like, Rain Comes Down (Betty and Jughead fucking in the car on the side of the road while cars drive by)?  Iconic, some amazing exhibitionism.  you had me howling(Betty in heat in the woods and then Jughead finds her and fucking ensues)? Fantastic ABO, so horny, so desperate.  Beneath the Silver Moon Rising?  Excellent dom!Jughead, excellent sexy times.  You must go check out all of her stuff here, you must.

@50shades-of-bughead:  Just some of the absolute cutest art that you must check out, especially their series of dark!bughead that is just fantastic.

@thepointoftheneedle: The variety of work here is phenomenal, the talent, I cannot.  Took my ridiculous double fake marriage/draft-dodging concept and turned it into an excellent, thoughtful period piece with phenomenal characterization and a great mystery with Never No Locomotive, I cannot recommend it enough.  And Ghosts and Clouds and Nameless Things (ghost!Jughead/grieving-dead-Jughead!Betty with a side of mystery) gave me so many emotions, I think I almost cried, and I am not a crier, I assure you.  Hey Pixie Dream Girl, I’m Coming for Your Man! (Betty in her bookstore saves Jughead from his date with a Manic Pixie Dream Girl) is so delightfully funny, and Sunflowers (Betty and Jughead share a working space and fall in love) is so goddamn cute.  I have actually found myself behind on her work, which is a crime, it all looks so amazing and I know it will be, and you must check all of it out with me here.

@hellodinoflower:  Such an amazing presence in the fandom, such a delight, so clever and funny.  She ran @bugheaddrabblechallenge this past summer and gave us all so much joy in the process, and, while her fics are deleted now (as is her right), I promise you that they were amazing, you all missed out if you slept on her.  She’s such a great follow, you gotta follow her.

@bluevelvetvideo:  A delighful soul, great character insight, great writing.  Like, her smut is fantastic, have you read Arsenal (a double feature of Betty and Jughead fooling around in public and then having some sexytimes back in private with some quality dom!Jughead, let me tell you, v steamy)?  Because you should.  Christmas Lights (Jughead ties Betty up with their Christmas lights, it’s fantastically sexy) is a delight, and you can’t blame gravity (for falling in love) is a very fun take on soulmates and soulmarks, and you simply must go read it.  She is a master of smut, let me tell you, and you must check out all her stuff here.  Also?  An excellent beta, 10/10, I’m so lucky to have her.

Hehe so I’m gonna start off with some tidbits and then I’m gonna put what I have of his story so far under the cut

He likes to put up the appearance that he’s kinda edgy and cool, and typically wears dark clothes (although they may be accented with like bright colors to make him stand out even more). And he is generally into some pretty dark things, especially when it comes to his music taste. But at the same time, his guilty pleasure is to listen to jpop and v0cal01d, omg he’s a huge fan of them. He’ll never admit it and will take it to his grave, but also like pop songs really get him going psdjfsk

I like to imagine that he has undiagnosed autism which his parents failed to notice because they couldn’t believe that any of their children could possibly be neurodivergent 😔. If Ronny is stimming and someone thinks it’s weird or berates him for it, he’s going to stim harder and in their face just to piss them off. These things make him stronger, keep insulting him, he’ll become so powerful and he will become a god and you will be the one he makes fun of and insults

Honestly, I just really want him to be the epitome of this face below. Like this is basically his expression at all times

He chooses to go by Ronny because he’s not fond of his actual name. It sounds too stiff and formal, and he’s not all about that. The problem is, since he goes by Ronny and since I call him that, I actually forgot what I decided his real name was going to be 👀💦. I think I wanted it to be Aaron, but I think it would be funnier if his parents decided to name him Ronald. And he’s just pissed off because he’s like “FUCKING RONALD????? RONALD??? WHO THE FUCK NAMES THEIR KID AFTER THE FUCKING MCDONALD’S GUY??” And like, he totally could’ve gone by Ron, his parents are very particular when it comes to appearances and they wanted him to be and sound respectful, idk like a business man or something. So he started going by Ronny to spite them and piss them off, because that’s like the least formal sounding name to them

Ok, so for backstory, like I said earlier, his parents essentially wanted to have successful children who became businessmen or something like that, as long as they went into a well-respected and well-paying career. Ronny was their second child, although I’m still deciding on how much older I want his sibling to be. I’m also trying to figure out his sibling’s gender still because the sibling idea is fairly new 👀💦

But essentially, his parents expected him and his sibling to get the best grades and be the best students so they can make a lot of money for the family, and then his parents can gloat about their successful children to everyone else. His parents were also pretty successful, like obviously not successful enough to be like known by everyone, but they were in a good place financially and money wasn’t necessarily a problem. And they wanted their children to also follow their path and be successful enough that they also didn’t have to worry about money

While growing up though, it was clear that Ronny has way behind his sibling. His sibling was basically the golden child, they got all the awards and praise and excelled at everything, while Ronny was having trouble understanding different concepts and just wanted to goof off. And of course, his parents didn’t like this and thought he was useless. They always compared him to his sibling, and since they would always berate him, his sibling grew up thinking it was also ok for him to be mean to Ronny and to think that he’s lower than everyone else

So clearly, all of this mental and sometimes physical abuse was absolutely horrible for Ronny. He started to think lowly of himself too and grew a huge resentment towards his family. His family was also a stickler when it came to how they presented themselves. Ronny always had to have like a bowl cut of sorts and always had to present himself like, elegantly I guess, or I don’t know. But like, he had to be smart, he had to be courteous, he had to be charming. And Ronny just said fuck all of this. In high school, he basically went out of his way just to piss his parents off and make them hate him even more. He’d rip up all of his good clothes, maybe make Frankenstein creations out of them to have a new wardrobe that suited to his tastes more. He started cursing more and wearing makeup, he skipped and flunked his classes and started hanging out with the wrong crowd. And boy were his parents pissed. It started getting worse and worse how they treated him, and of course he expected it, so he just basically tolerated the abuse and kept arguing with his parents, and things kept going downhill

All of this anger kept accumulating over time, and the whole family got into a giant argument because Ronny obviously didn’t have enough credit for him to graduate. After the heat died down, he ran into his sibling who added more fuel to the fire by telling Ronny that he was a disgrace to the family and that he would never be as good as they were. They were already in college and were the top of their class, and they were already on their way to a good career. And they fully did this knowing that it would make Ronny feel horrible, since they way his parents treated him had become normalized. It was like they essentially came here to gloat and to pick a fight. This made Ronny snap and he basically jumped them and started punching the daylights out of them. This was the final straw for the family, since his parents saw Ronny’s actions to be immature, and that he was clearly only going to cause grief for the family. So they ended up kicking him out and disowning him

After that, he’s basically scrambling to get enough money to live day to day, and he goes out of his way picking fights and pissing people off, insulting them and putting them lower than him almost as a way to validate himself. By putting people down, it raises him up even higher on a pedestal. Winning in fights also does the same thing, but at the same time, he doesn’t really complain when he’s getting his ass beaten, partially because subconsciously he feels like he deserves it and he somewhat misses it in a way. He refuses to think any more of it though and refuses to touch his issues

what's your biggest challenge and what comes easiest to you when writing?

Interesting question. It’s really made me think about my writing style and how it’s evolved over the years (honestly, it had been one hell of a journey and I have no regrets), tbh, my only regret is not knowing your username so I could give you a shoutout, but in any case… thanks for the ask! I mean it. It made me think, and do so a lot, which I appreciate.

But you probably don’t care all that much. You’re here for answers. And fear not, my fair anonymous, for they shall be given.

I suppose I should be a procrastinator and go with the easier answer first. (Get it? Okay never mind ignore me. ) What comes easiest to in writing, hands down, is… (drumroll)

dialogue. Yep. You read that right. It’s harder for OCs but generally, once I start I can’t stop. Literally a recurring problem for me is that I often start to add stuff in second reads (once a severe is already completed) making it sometimes twice as long as it was originally. The downside of this ease at writing it is that my dialogues get way too long and then I have to make hard decisions on which pieces of dialogue need to be cut out and which get to live. (Or whether I think my readers would be fine with the surplus.) I know you were probably expecting me to say something else is easiest but yeah. Dialogues, definitely. They’re my best friend. They really help me flesh out new characters, relationships developing between them and add dynamism to the story.

As for my biggest challenge…? It really isn’t a fixed thing. For example, believe it or not my biggest challenge used to be humor of all things. Humor, which is now one of my strengths. Well, it wasn’t always. In fact, learning the art of humor (make no mistakes, writing humor and doing it well is a literal ART) was my main aim when I wrote Twisted (it’s on ffnet) with literally that one goal in mind. To learn how to write humor. It was something I’d been stewing on for quite some time prior to that, reading articles, starting to watch a lot of youtubers that appealed my own brand of humor, giving myself a push to start making more jokes in social situations. Basically it was a day to day effort to cultivate my own sense of humor and laugh more easily at things. This, I have to say, really changed me as a person and I was much happier for it. Going back to twisted now (my first ‘successful’ humor piece) I feel like a lot of it was kind of immature and a bit unrealistic, but it was a definite start and I learned so much from writing it. I am now a much funnier and happier person than I was before, have more friends and confidence in social situations and all… because I once decided to learn how to write humor scenes. Yeah. No lie.

Then came my next challenge, which was adding more layers of depth to antagonists. This is why I made danzo morally grey in MTE and why Hiruzen is also neither good nor bad, but rather someone with good intentions and bad executions. In short, I wanted to start writing contradictions. Real humans are full of them and I think realizing this is an important part of being a writer. Also, I have always wanted to try my hand at a Snape-ish type of character and my danzo in some ways resembles him (in some very limited ways) so that was a bonus! That actually I didn’t struggle with so much, but I think the important part was coming to the realization of wanting to make my characters like this. It is something I’m incorporating more and more as o write.

My next challenge was writing OCs that wouldn’t make people run in the opposite direction. I have to admit… I am still struggling with that. But! I have also made a LOT of discoveries in the process (I don’t want this post to go on forever but if you want me to specify, just say the word!) and I think I’ve gotten most of the ‘formula’ of dos and songs down by this point. Anyways I also realized that morally ambiguous FEMALE characters are way less well received than male ones, especially if they’re potential love interests, which made me wonder in turn about societal perception of ‘anti heroes’ as cool when it’s a man vs when it’s a woman. Make of this info what you will.

But anyways, there are many other challenges to writing I’ve been struggling with, such as pacing, the classic showing va telling, which can be observed in the larger scale of things as well as adverb and adjective usage, then there’s the order and length of scenes when you have many POV switches going on… another hard task for sure… and coming up with original metaphors… knowing when some comic relief is needed… honestly there’s so much stuff. But if I had to pick ONE thing? Again, I think you’ll be surprised but…

I pick writing romance and or mushy stuff, which I weirdly have a lot of trouble with, even though I love reading it. I cannot explain it. I guess I just find it embarrassing to share, in a way, something so deeply personal with the internet. Here’s to hoping I’ll do Sakura and Itachi justice!

Ok, overall reaction. This one was wild. I loved it from start to finished. I really liked the Truth clips, showing how they overlap. I love how much we learned about Kagami. I actually love her intensity. Will her black and whiteness bite her in the ass some day? Probably if she stays like that all her life, but she’s like 15, so she has time to grow. But I really like the contrast between her and Luka, how she’s so intense and he’s so chill. I think they would benefit hanging out together. So I loved this episode a lot and it had some really good lines! 10/10!

I just got home from the Frozen 2 advanced screening at Disney Studios (as pictured above, got more swag than I thought I would). Gonna give my immediate thoughts and comments, with a more coherent post at a later date. Obviously, if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read below:

WARNING! MAJOR FROZEN 2 SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!

-I’ve been listening to “Show Yourself” non stop since the soundtrack came out and it was gorgeous seeing the accompanying animation. The song starts as Elsa is riding Nokk towards Ahtohallan and continues as she makes her way through the cave. What was also unexpected for me is that she transforms into her “final form” at the end of the song, so she’s wearing that outfit throughout a good portion of the movie, not just the epilogue, so I hope that means there will be more merchandise for it!

-After that, she wanders through Ahtohallan which is made up of moving “sculptures” made of snow/ice that show memories: she sees some of herself and Anna when they were young playing with Olaf, various people in Arendelle, and of Iduna and Agnarr (I believe Iduna was saying something about being afraid to reveal what she really is, a Northuldra). Some funny parts, Elsa walks by a memory of herself at the end of “Let It Go” and makes a face like “yeah, I was silly back then” XD But the best part was when she walks by a scene of Anna and Hans about to dance at the coronation. She gives it a cold look and then breaks the Hans sculpture, lol.

-The important memory she finds is that King Runeard was using the dam against the Northuldra - something about cutting off their resources so they’d be forced to trade with Arendelle, or something like that, I don’t remember exactly. A poignant part was when Elsa first sees the memory of Runeard and he’s talking about how he hates and doesn’t trust anyone who uses magic, to which she says angrily that his fear is blinding him. And again, Elsa is wearing her final outfit during all this, so there was so much time to ogle it XD

-The “gone too far” part is when she follows the memory of Runeard as it fades down into a deep abyss. He was talking about something suspicious regarding the Northuldra, so she decided to jump down into the depths to find out even though she remembers the song’s warning. She sees that Runeard attacked (and likely killed) the Northuldra leader. She begins freezing as she’s down there and before she gets completely frozen, she sends a burst of magic up above, calling out to Anna (and the fact that Elsa “dies” here is proof that she’s not immortal even after becoming the fifth spirit). Her magic reaches Anna and Olaf in the cave and shows them what happened. They realize they have to destroy the dam but Olaf starts to “flurry” - pieces of snowflakes peel off him and drift away, and he tells Anna that Elsa isn’t okay. Anna pulls Olaf into her lap and holds him there as he fades away. He doesn’t melt exactly and we don’t see the full process: we see his flurries gently flow out of the cave and land in a pile somewhere else. Bruhni watches sadly from a ledge below.

-The saddest thing to me was that, after the aforementioned scene of Olaf’s “death,” the scene fades to black, then opens up again overlooking the same cave but it looks like a different time of day, then cuts to Anna crying inside - so she was literally crying alone in the cave for what could have been hours! I thought right after Olaf melts is when she’d start singing The Next Right Thing, but she spends who knows how long grieving. That is just too sad 8_8 Before she starts singing, she says “Olaf...Elsa...what do I do?” My heart shattered then. Another part that shattered it more was when Anna confronts Matthias and the soldiers as they try to prevent her from approaching the dam. When they ask her why it has to be destroyed, she tells them and says “My sister gave her life for the truth, we can’t lose anyone else.”

-Oh my gosh, the reunion at the end was my favorite part and so sweet~ After the mist around the forest fades, Anna and Kristoff approach the pillars with Anna looking like she’s ready to burst into tears...until some snow crystals flutter around her and then behind to where the shore is (not sure if it’s the shore of the Dark Sea since it’s daylight at this time, or it could just be a nearby beach). She sees Elsa riding Nokk - she starts running toward her but then stops because she’s still not sure it’s really Elsa. When Elsa says her name and holds out her arms, she runs to her and they share a beautiful hug (while Anna is sobbing). Honestly I can’t remember exactly what was said because I was an emotional wreck at that point, but Elsa tells Anna that she’s the fifth spirit, that Anna saved her, and that the bridge has two sides: herself here and Anna in Arendelle, and they’d fix the past wrongs together. And I also loved the fact that Kristoff comes over and is relieved that Elsa’s okay: he says “Elsa, you’re alright!” and gives her a hug, then (humorously) says “ you look different...did you cut your hair?” She also gives Sven a little pet. I’m so glad they included this part as it shows that Kristoff doesn’t just see Elsa as a cockblock to Anna, lol. Kristoff proposes to Anna here as well (Sven tears up a little seeing it XD)

-As for Olaf’s revival, Elsa tells Anna “I have a question for you” “What is it?” “Do you want to build a snowman?” She then concentrates and we see the pile of Olaf’s “flurries” come flying down from the cave to become Olaf again. Elsa says it’s a good thing water has memory, implying that he still remembers everything despite being “resurrected.” The epilogue just had so many cute moments - Anna and Elsa share another hug as they walk back to the stone pillars, Elsa wipes away a tear on Anna’s face, they put there foreheads together at one point when they’re talking, Elsa takes Anna’s hand and leads her to one of the now tamed earth giants and they both gently touch his giant nose, and Frohana share a warm hug. I cannot wait to get HD screenshots of it all!

-And for Anna’s coronation? To be honest, it didn’t seem like a coronation to me - it literally just had Kai announcing Anna as she walks outside (onto a stage I think? Don’t remember exactly) but right after that she’s out in the streets with Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven, who are dressed up. So it must have been some kind of event, but wouldn’t the coronation have a party in the castle and a ceremony, like Elsa had? We then see Matthias outside with another Arendelle citizen (he’s discovering the new technology of photograph, lol) - wouldn’t they be part of the ceremony if there was a coronation, and not just out in the streets doing whatever. It just didn’t seem like a major event was happening, I’ll have to see the movie again. Regardless, they reveal statues of young Iduna and Agnarr (they should have had statues of Anna and Elsa too!) and Anna notices Gale flying about and asks if he/she (does Gale have a gender?) to deliver a letter to Elsa. Gale carries it over to the forest and Elsa reads it. As we know, it’s a reminder about charades. Anna ends the letter saying “I love you” to which Elsa says “I love you too, sis” (that’s where this line that we heard in one of the teasers came from - pretty crazy they’d use a line from the very end of the movie, knowing we wouldn’t figure it out!)

-I mostly talked about the ending here but I’ll say a few things that stood out in the rest of the movie to me: Some Things Never Change was adorable. Anna and Elsa share a sweet hug at the end, during the “holding on tight to you” lines. And I absolutely cracked up during Kristoff’s verse when he’s doing Sven’s voice and telling him about getting down on one knee with the ring - some nearby townspeople see him and it looks like he’s proposing to Sven and they get the most awkward looks on their faces XD The scene in their parents’ ship was really emotional: Anna and Elsa clinging to each other with tears in their eyes as they see the memory of their parents take shape...my heart was breaking. The ensuing scene where Elsa’s overcome with guilt and runs outside with Anna telling her she’s not responsible for their actions, and she believes in her more than anything, etc., More was said between them here and I’m having trouble remembering it exactly but it was deep.

-Oh, and the post-credits scene was hilarious: it’s Olaf telling the events of the story to Marshmallow and the Snowgies (Frozen Fever is canon!) just like he does earlier when he describes the first Frozen to Matthias and the others (”it began with two sisters...”) The funniest part was his dramatizing lines of the latter part of the story - ”Elsa is dead,” “Olaf is dead,” “Anna’s crying alone” - it’s hard to describe, it’s funnier when you see it.

Later I’ll write a post with more coherent thoughts about the movie itself and not just a spoiler list - I might do that soon or wait until I see it again this weekend. But I will say that I loved it - having seen it for myself, I truly believe there’s no “tragic separation” that we’ve been fearing. There’s really nothing bittersweet about it, nothing like Anna saying “will I ever see you again?” because it’s a given that they can still be a family and nothing is keeping them from seeing each other whenever they want. At this point, it’s not that I dislike the ending as it is “I want to see what happens next!” It left me even hungrier for more Frozen, like a short reassuring us that they’re still a family by having another charades scene or something like that. Or another movie is always welcome! There was also some lore/plot-wise things I’m a little confused about, but that’ll be for another post. It’s 1am here and I need to decide if I can sleep or not, lol. If you have any questions, please send them via direct message. My sweet darling mama finally having time to cook again during quarantine has led to her, every week, excitedly cackling and planning over what she wants to try her hand at next.

Robin McKinley has been the very much-needed discovery of this year, and it seems every so often everything I need in the world is to sit down and read one of her books in one sitting to feel alright again! (My favorite remains The Blue Sword, in case you were wondering, but Spindle’s End is also darling and has the most fun magic system so far)

The freshly-cut-hair feeling when the ends of your hair are still all evened out & it feels like your hair is somehow shinier and better than it was before

My collection of post-it-notes on my wall that I look at every day to bring me strength, happiness, or just a little laugh. (One of them is even a math identities note that I still use sometimes! Who knew!) My favorite one is the LOTR quote- it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. because it’s good to be reminded of that, and it makes me happy. 

when you are peeling a tangerine with your hands so you smell oranges for hours to come and all of the rind comes off in giant pieces and you start asking everyone if they want a piece of tangerine and then someone acquiesces and you go yES I HAVE OFFERED FOOD SUCCESSFULLY. best feeling in the world. 

the calluses on your fingers when you start playing an instrument again, especially if it’s been a long time since you have. the filling sense of pride & accomplishment you get from it is unmatched. 

when you go out one morning and the weather has, by way of willpower or patience itself, made the impassable shift into your favorite season. for me, there is always some September day where I spend it all skipping about on the high of the frost on the leaves that morning. there’s only a specific blue, blue, blue that fall brings to the sky in my town, and I wait for it all year long, and it never disappoints.

freshly washed sheets and specifically, comforters, are the best and coziest things in the WORLD. an absolute luxury, if an everyday one.  

the Brooklyn 99 scene where Captain Holt tries to write a wedding speech and comes up with “love...............it susTAINS you.........it’s like oatmeal” never fails to cheer me up

I’ve been having such strong BA test kitchen withdrawals that this Babish video with Sohla made my ENTIRE WEEK (significantly aided by the fact that she is an angelically sweet person and he is the funniest healthily-self-deprecating person ever and watching them mess up making candy together was the best thing ever)

last Christmas one of my brother’s gifts to me was a giant Hershey’s kiss that has been languishing waiting to be eaten, and today we shattered it and used it to make almost four (4) sheets of peanut butter chocolate-topped cookies and it was GLORIOUS.

how lucky I am to be alive right now!!!! I wake up every day and I have enough to eat!! I get to go to sleep at the end of the day! There’s sunsets in front of my house and sunrises behind it!!! There are books to read and people to love and bread to bake and things to write and movies to see and I have so much. left to live for. There is so much good in life, still, even though some things are really hard right now. It’s still a beautiful world, after all. thank goodness for that.

Episode #200

Trash of the Titans Season 9 - Episode 22 | April 26, 1998 Episode TWO-HUNDO! This one *kinda* feels like a special episode. Steve Martin and U2 as guest stars is a pretty big deal, I guess. Homer becomes sanitation commissioner and makes a big mess of everything. A budget crisis causes him to hire out Springfield to be dumped in by other cities, causing a garbage eruption all over the place. They move the whole town 5 miles down the road, which is a funny and memorable gag. Continuity heads take heed: It’s just a joke that I’m pretty sure they never reference again, like the much-hated Armin Tamzarian episode. What surprises me is that between episode 100 & episode 200, I think I actually like this one better. It’s funnier. The first act is excellent, and the U2 scenes are kinda lame, but forgivable. At least it’s realistically handled with them throwing Homer out of the concert, and not inexplicably like “we’re going to help you now and be friends with you, HOMER!”. And like I said, the ending is satisfying enough. Daddy... like? My friend London once pinpointed the actual Simpsons jump-the-shark moment with a specific scene in this episode where Homer sings “The Garbage Man Can” song. The jump-the-shark moment occurs with the line “’cuz he’s Homer Simpson Man”, which is really fucking awful. While I don’t think the song overall is bad, that line sure is, and I always think of London when it plays. Along with “what do I think of the pie?” from Special Edna it’s one of the worst musical Simpsons moments in the series. The Simpsons should have gotten out of the music biz after they Sang the Blues.

Okay I’m sure I don’t have much in the way of new readers who don’t know or care what the B-SODE is, but I’ll remind everyone: I used to do a thing where I matched up the Simpsons episode with an episode of another animated show that was thematically similar to (or sometimes just had one thing in common with) the Simpsons episode being covered. I had a rule that the show had to be of a similar vintage from the Simpsons episode I was reviewing. (If the Simpsons episode was from 1992, for example, I could use anything from 1990-1994 for the B-SODE). When I started the blog I would watch every B-SODE, Then life became hellish and I needed to work two jobs to pay all my bills and the B-SODE eventually became more and more of an afterthought until I just axed it all together.  Honestly researching cartoons for the B-SODE was a huge pain, especially when I had to do it for a modern episode. Here’s an example: In season 1 Bart cuts the head of a statue. Ren & Stimpy, an early Simpsons contemporary, had an episode where they destroy the head of an Abe Lincoln statue. See how easy that is? But in season 26 when the episodes are like: “Homer is addicted to craigslist/Lisa starts dumpster diving/Bart gets in trouble for lunch-trading at school/the couch gag is a 7 minute parody of Bosch/it ends with a 2 minute stand-alone short with Mr. Burns explaining the electoral college” what the fuck am I even supposed to do with that?? I’m thinking when the Simpsons-every-day portion of the blog is done, I’ll probably start covering different Simpsons-adjacent shows in some capacity. I’m making an insane unwieldy list as we speak. Not committing to anything, I’m just putting it out there. Might watch stuff casually and do little recaps covering the shows as a whole when the mood strikes. Hey it could happen!

Haha, I kinda remember what post this is referring to, I went off on some tangent where I was like “LOOK I SHOULD GET TO SAY RETARD OR FAGGOT WHILE I’M DRIVING OR ELSE I’LL KILL SOMEONE”. And guess what it? It’s true! I stopped saying both this year and so many have died because of it. Many of them cops. Anyway, I’ll try not to slur unless it’s my birthday or something.
