Completely and Utterly Unofficial Non Affiliated with TRSB Art Squee Voice Chat Event on AoA Discord - 5/21 @ 5pm UTC

First, a little history -- for the past three years, I had a little pre-claims chat party, and gather people to be on Discord to talk about the TRSB art before claims. Last year, the group got really big, and it took almost 8 hours to get through the art. This year, TRSB has their own Discord. So it didn't make sense to do the exact thing the mods were doing, plus, it just got too big for one unaffiliated person to do. But, I still like the mood of the past three years, so I'm trying this out this year, and if you read this far, you're invited. (And even if you didn't read this far, you're still invited, you just won't know that I guess.) So, link and details...

Hang out in voice chat and squee over the TRSB art (note: in order to see said art, one will need to either have participated as an artist or have signed up as an author - you can do so and get details over at the TRSB website - https://tolkienrsb.wordpress.com/ )

HOWEVER, a disclaimer: The mods have asked that I clearly state and let everyone know that this server, me included, are ZERO PERCENT affiliated with TRSB and this is a totally independent event that is totally unofficial and TRSB has NOT approved of this event and has their own events, but this is the one that's happening in an independent art discord server I run, in a completely unofficial manner. It's so unofficial, I didn't even approve myself to run this event.

Chat is scheduled for 5/21 at 5pm UTC to have given everyone a little time to have absorbed the art in advance. Event will run approximately two hours.

(There is an official event on the official TRSB discord four hours prior; in the event their event is still running at the time the unofficial event on Artists of Arda is supposed to start, the AoA event will be delayed until after the official event ends.)

ah, thanks for your interest! i have a few and i've written a couple fics featuring them, most recently for trsb 2019.

cut my roots & now my leaves are dead features cemnariel, steward for maedhros, and is set during the construction of himring! she's got a lot of things on her plate and is very good at dealing with everyone else's problems while studiously ignoring her own <3 also featured is sinyárë, commander of maglor's cavalry. she likes tea, her horse, and trying very hard to woo cemnariel.

other characters who appear in that fic: avaldiel, chief architect for the fortress at himring; parmandil, records keeper married to a member of sinyárë’s calvary and raising his daughter cenirë (see below) at himring despite the fact that it makes him very stressed; tatyalótë, the head cook and the one with the most common sense; asyaro, cemnariel’s brother who serves as caranthir’s chamberlain and loves gossip. 

that fic in particular sort of spans a spectrum of thoughts and reactions among various characters to the way the feanorians have settled into eastern beleriand, dealing with the transition from valinor to middle-earth, and just... generally the political and personal entanglements as viewed from the sidelines (or standing in awkward silence next to the dinner table while curufin yells at maedhros, as the case may be).

cenirë appears as a child in cut my roots but was actually the first tolkien oc i wrote a fic for (noise of thunder in 2014, oof) set during the dagor bragollach as she tries to lead her infantry unit to safety. sinyárë also first appeared in that fic and is heavily implied to have died during the battle of sudden flame, but who knows! i’ve also been toying with a fic idea for years that focuses on various viewpoints during the nírnaeth arnoediad that would definitely feature a couple of the characters mentioned above.

also! i never technically decided who the noldo in my dragon anatomy fic was affiliated with but if you’re interested in two other ocs of mine (faelil “dragon anatomy is my passion” and merendis “holy shit get some self-preservation”) that one’s only on the silmarillion writer’s guild but it’s kinda fun.

Special Announcement:

Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang!!

While Gondolin Week is not affiliated with the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang, it would be inappropriate with fail to mention that sign-ups for TRSB run through Gondolin Week.

Important dates to note:

16th May – art up for preview

21st May – author sign ups close

23rd May – claims

Because this is possibly the most important week for writers, I wanted to take some time to remind everyone thinking of participating in Gondolin Week that while I am very much looking forward to what everyone will bring to the event, Gondolin Week is not a challenge like TRSB. 

TRSB involves a lot of preparation on behalf of the moderators and requires them to set rules and limitations in place in order to facilitate running their event. Gondolin Week holds no oaths of participation against anyone. 

If you would like to only submit a single piece, you can do that. If you want to do every day except one, you can do that too. Art? Writing? Music? Cosplay? Anything is welcome and no expectations are set upon you other than the mutual respect of other participants.

I hope this has helped to ease some of your fears about the crossing-over of this and other events. 

Our only goals here are to have fun and put into the world the content we’d like to see.

RE: TRSB2019 -- If anyone is looking for a proxy for the claims, I am off that day, and I am really fast at typing.  Obviously, I'll be inputting my own first, but I am willing to input selections for others who aren't able to be online at that time.   Last year I had the fastest non-mod claim time, so I anticipate efficiency. If interested, please PM so I don't miss you, and please have your claim list & form info to me by Saturday, so that it gives me time to ask questions should they arise.  If more than one person asks me to proxy for them, proxy-ing will happen in order of time/date stamps requested on discord or tumblr for fairness sake. ^_^

UNOFFICIAL TRSB CHAT PARTY: Voice chatting to commence at Erestor's Library: Special Event vc.  For this special event voice chat, you are not required to officially join the library; you will be able to accept an invite link to enter the server and use the Special Event chat room without accepting the rules/officially joining the server (you will only have temporary access to the server, though, so, y'know, if you want to stay after the party, join, it's fun ^_^).  

Party will commence two hours prior to the claiming and last at least an hour after the claiming, however, there will be a 'radio silence' period beginning ten minutes prior to claiming and lasting ten minutes after to ensure uninterrupted claiming time.
