#I hate the current technology

EDIT: Smart homes are not stupid. But they also are. But not for the elderly or those of us who are disabled, but you hardly see any solutions marketed to these segments. Also language support?

For an able bodied person it’s way easier to actually do the things by themselves rather than ask a corporate spy software living in a speaker to do the thing, have it misunderstand, repeat your request and have the task performed wrong repeatedly until you may have to do the task yourself anyway.

I can’t imagine why anyone would like living like that, unless you have disabilities, mental or physical or both. But even then smart home solutions should be better for that purpose. It’s a damn shame that we could have technology that could greatly benefit the disabled but instead we live in reality where ablebodied people use poorly designed ans poorly operating technology that’s a solution for a problem they barely have.

TLDR: I received a Homepod mini as a gift and I hate it, I think it’s stupid, and I hate Siri, because she doesn’t understand me. Also I realized that I mostly hate Apple now. No hate on Alexa or anyone’s lifestyle.

wait, the reason the steam is stopping support for windows 7/8/8.1 staring january 2024 is because the steam client runs on chromium???? and chrome stopped support for windows 7/8/8.1 earlier this year. so they are simply not going to let the steam client even open after this coming january?? this is super fucked up

When I was little I was obsessed with Lord of the Rings but after some age onwards I just didn't care no more. Now I watched some youtubers react to it and I'm surprised I still teared at Boromir's death. This is why I followed the arts. Even at times of great wars, the cinema and music on the radio helped with people's spirits, and to this day, music really helps with mental illness. Once a piece of media touches you, even if you grow out of it, it never leaves you. Back then Legolas, Boromir and Faramir were my favorite characters, and even though I feel no hype for this movie at all, seeing Boromir die for probably the millionth time, still brought tears to my eyes. I got a little emotional for Gandalf too but mostly cause one of the youtubers was crying and I'm unfortunately an empath so, when I see people cry, I tend to cry too even when I'm not sad, myself. However Boromir's death scene trully got to me because of what I experienced as a kid. It's crazy how strong of an impact a story can have on people. Thank you for this amazing work mr Tolkien and the just as amazing filmwork of yours, Peter Jackson.

literally was just complaining about this earlier today after logging into my email on a library computer. i am of the vehement opinion that updating EVERYTHING so that it needs to be through your phone is a horrible idea. for example my college bookstore recently renovated and now students are no longer allowed to walk through the stacks and pick up the books they need to buy themselves. they have to place an order online and then pick it up in person. not the same i know but there's so many things. and what if you lose your phone? what do you do then? everything is so reliant on phones these days and it makes me mad.

every genius who thinks mandatory two-factor authentication is a good idea should be forced to do tech support for a public library that serves a lot of elderly poor people

My current laptop is a 2015 model and it’s saying I need to replace the battery (this would be the second or third time I think) and sometimes people are just like “keeping that thing going can end up being more expensive than just buying a new computer” but I’m ride or die with this thing. We’re together until god themself takes its life for the final time. I don’t care if its tenth birthday is coming up, we’re in this mess together, and even when I will one day be forced to get a new computer for outdated software reasons, I’m keeping this bitch until they pass on to computer heaven (because it’s been a good computer but my last personal one is in purgatory and my old highschool laptop is in hell) I used my 2014 (or was it 2014?) phone until the screen started to detach from the frame, don’t test me. I’m too stubborn and autistic.

everytime I get news it’s bad news. steam isn’t gonna be supporting windows 8.1 in a few months. I get that microsoft isn’t supporting older versions of windows, but like, can things not immediately become incompatible if it’s just 10 years old? especially something like steam that literally works with windows 8.1 currently. incredibly dumb. literally setting me into a fit of despair. again. the problem with loving technology and being slow is that you get detrimental news every time something “progresses.” yes I understand the linear progress of time, I still think it’s dumb and frustrating that things become incompatible after only a few years. between this and whatever the fuck tumblr is doing I am truly feeling despair.
