mirrors - me and my body over the years.

a short comic i've had bouncing around in my head for a few months.

when i was a kid, every morning felt like flipping a coin on whether i'd feel like shit that day. something was wrong with my body. i didn't know what it was. i was a tomboy and my family wanted me to be ladylike, so i thought i just wasn't femme or white enough.

then i got groomed out of high school, by a worthless excuse for a man who told me he understood me and liked me as i was. i wanted to reconnect with my femininity and asked for help, but he took a mile. he tried to feminize me and neg me into his perfect fantasy bangmaid. every day it was being compared to women who weren't me and being made out to be the bad guy if i didn't cave to one of his demands.

when i got away from him, i could finally examine who i was as a person without anyone else's influence. no family, no high school classmates, no abusive boyfriend. and finally figuring out the answer to that question (what's wrong with me?) didn't make things any easier. turns out i'm not a girl. now i have to live with that knowledge.

i turned 22 this year. i started HRT. i finally have a voice that i like. i have hair on my arms. i have hair on my chin and a little dirt stache. on my birthday, for the first time since i can remember, i saw myself in the mirror and thought "hey, looking good." i think i'm going to be alright.

A bit curious of Nights and Balan's kid.

Any basic info about them?

I have a bunch of stuff about them (and their other kids) if you look through the fankid or wonderkid hashtags on my blog! But since I haven't talked about her for a hot minute, I'll give a refresher!

Ambi (full name: Ambivé Balan Jr) is the firstborn of NiGHTS and Balan, and was created when I had originally drawn a fusion of the two characters and liked it so much I decided to make it into a fankid design! She's very much a perfect blend of both her folks, chaotic and hardy from her Nightmaren side and massively powerful with a flair for theatrics from her Maestro blood.

Figuring out how to parent her in the early years was a wild ride, especially with her being the first documented offspring of a dream demon and a theatre god. She came with hurdles. One week it was creating fire from nowhere, the next it was disappearing through random portals, and then learning that manipulating sound means she could set off airhorns at any time she liked. Two a.m. was her preference for a solid week.

Eventually, Ambi grows into a powerful being and decides to go off on her own and be a travelling Maestro, going to places that's more inaccessible for a large, omnipresent building such as the main Theatre. She works a schedule with Balan, so she's in frequent contact with her folks even after she leaves home.

Her voice claim is also Annapantsu!

#pose taken directly from the kikuomiku4 album cover bc i’ve been listening to UFO on repeat for idk how many days now #finally gave me the inspiration i needed to do something like this it’s like both sad and super whimsical #actually tbh it gives me more wishful vibes now that i think about it but 1. idk what wishful looks like and 2. cashmere design my beloved #kikuo just in general has a lot of whimsysad and/or fundark which is why i love him #tbh ufo has quickly shot up to one of my fave songs it’s the iconic accordion and the tempo being unstable in places #uh anyway ignore me being a kikuo nerd again #wahhh this was fun to work on it has consumed me these past three days #jumping up and down hehehehehe #glad i finally cut to the ‘it’s done *collapses*’ stage of the arting process bc i’ve been having trouble finishing pieces lately #man i WISH i could come up with poses this good on my own. idc i’m still proud of this #my art #ok yeah i just got the time total. 12 hours #i knew it would be a long time but i didn’t think that long #tbh a lot of that was spent inefficiently bc i kept having to resize the image up when i realized the pixels were too crunchy #and when you make an image bigger the lines get blurry so then you have to redo them. yeah i had to do that TWICE. like a dummy.#12 hours used to be like par for the course for me but i’ve finally gotten faster. or maybe i’ve just stopped doing as many full figures #lol

I wanted to draw a particular scene for the comic but Edgeworth was making it difficult, so... I employed the help of a rabbit to make it happen. ^ I swear I'm serious. Kinda.

#i mulled over many possibilities but the rabbit thing made the most sense honestly #look edgeworth is a difficult man #i had to add an extra page for this also #now it's 15pp #hope it doen't grow further #otherwise I can kiss my self-imposed deadline goodbye #realistically that deadline is impossible already honestly............#i made too many edits today because of course.#the script was finished - done with!! - BUT something always comes to mind and I'll probably continue to edit the thing #until I finish drawing and coloring even #probably even after I compile the pdfs and then check them over and notice something weird and need to redo the process again #^that's what happened with the other comic

wahhhh guys i have to rip out like two entire sections on my neckwarmer knitting wip and i was ALMOST DONE 😭😭😭 but its just too fucking talllllll :’( photos before i take it out for posterity. first off a little commotion as it slayssss outside of this error. clap and cheer. but anyways i was working on the final motif which are going to be hearts but i need to go back and take out that entire fourth repeat of leaves even tho i did as many as the pattern calls for!! its just so tall like if i keep going it will be like to my forehead when i finish. not ideal! sorry for the garish censoring but just so u get an idea of how tall it is on my face

#andddd i have to take out the top half of the third repeat of leaves because that will become my final repeat ofc #and the last repeat as a slightly different version– see the small heart motif rather than the like.. diamonds i guess?#which isnt that bad but like ugh. yknow #which is funny cause when i was doing the fourth repeat i was like man this is kinda tall should i take it out and redo…. and then i didnt #consoling myself by saying ill have more yarn leftover if i take it out. love to have leftover yarn #most i hate putting stitches back onto needles because theyre always backwards or i drop them or whatever else #but luckilyyyy my nan is coming over tomorrow and i had wanted to be mostly done when she did so she could see it #but my mom says she could help me put them back on the needles. wonderful idea. so hopefully shes good at that #also like yes much of the time i would presumably have it just around my neck not all the way up my face #butttt with all this extra fabric its bunching a lot and its just not as good

i want to say that if i were siffrin id abuse the hell out of loops to sleep SO often but. considering that they tend to spiral when left to their own devices. i understand

also while i was at the zoo i saw these weird Beasts called chacoan peccaries and apparently when they were first discovered in the 1930s they just found fossils and thought they were extinct until they finally found living ones in the 70s. they look like what a kids drawing of a wild hog would look like and i like them very much. they aren't even pigs.

#wish i got better photos but the enclosure was kinda far away #the zoo i went to kinda sucked but i got into a screaming match with a macaw so that was a win #they're redoing a bunch of it and even other than that a lot of the animals seemed rly lethargic :/#i like the way they had the petting zoo set up tho. they had closed in areas so the animals didn't have to be with people if they #didn't want to. they made it the animals choice wether or not they wanted to be pet #it was a cold and kinda misty day tho maybe the animals were lathargic bc of that #the giraffes were having a great time tho #same with the flamingos every time i walked by them they were getting to verbal fights it was funny #that macaw was just kinda mumbling to itself so i mimicked it and it just kept making increasingly weird sounds for me to copy #like ironically i was the parrot in that situation #i can't read bird body language but i assume it would've stopped if it wasn't having fun #it was specifically making noise so that i would copy it like it would pause and wait for me to respond #i love macaws and parrots man they're so sillyyyyyy #also there were peacocks EVERYWHERE i love how peacocks will just find a place they like and decide they'll just Live There #they set up shop like any crows or seagulls but they're like twice as big and loud as hell #i feel like they're like trying to domesticate themselves or something they just love being in people populated areas #sassy speaks

It still amazes me how often its the workers being rude or confrontational for no reason. And a lot of them act proud of it too.

I remember how many times I just completely disarmed and shut down rude custormers without having to be rude or confrontational.

very controversial opinion here, but sometimes customer service workers are the problem 😶

#there are only three cases were I was #not even rude #just curt with customers #1st time #after some confusion with a request they got very rude with me #I tried to mea-culpa it and redo their request #but they decided to throw a fit #much to her husbands embarassment #i lost my patient and told her she wasn't very clear with her order.#she responded with #“Are you saying im wrong?” to whuch I just answered #a simple“Yes!”#She started sputtering and my manager asked me to go to the back #2nd time the man was complaining about either the price or stock compared to another store #I just said that I would recomend that store if we didn't have what he wanted anyways #basically a way to politely tell him #“Then go there you muppet!”#3rd time #a man came to return a damaged product #I greeted him with a Good day #he responded “Lets see if it will be good”#Demanded me to tell him where the utems like the one he wanted to return were #I tried to guide him to the post-sale booth so he could trade it for a working one #Instead he said he was going to the aisle #getting a new box and leaving the old one there.#I just said #quite politely at that #“Thats nit the store policy and it would count as shoplifitng!”#also that the products had alarms on them and if they weren't deactivated on checkout it would go iff #I warned the manager and doorman and we stood there. When the man came to the front he changed his mind and returned the box
