The team chooses to become a chess club, god knows why. Let's assume some teachers are not fond of the idea of their top student mingling with some degenerates and broker a deal with Aoi that if they fail to pass the prelims in a chess competition then they'll have to be disbanded.

The competition is in 3 days so she employs an old friend (read: senpai from her old middle school idk) to help her coach her team. They join a competition that they're completely unprepared for. Saki and Takuma win their rounds cause they can do no wrong. RIP Ryo and Kaito.

Minoru is temporarily banned; something about inappropriate behavior. With Minoru out of the game, they're down one team member.

They end up shoving Shuuji onto the game arena, replacing his school jacket with one of theirs.

“People can still recognize me!” He says.

So they take off his glasses and give him a hat. Still not enough, they split his hair in the middle as if it does anything. It works and the chess club nerds from the other schools don’t recognize him.

Aoi looks on as Shuuji shakily walks toward the table.Hand over her mouth. “What am I doing? Am I that desperate?”

Takuma, her right hand man, turns to her with eyes of anxious apprehension. “If we don’t win this round, we don’t make the cut. If we don’t make the cut… they’ll disband the club.”

Disband. But… I already like you guys.

“I am that desperate!” She whips back around to Shuuji, shakily greeting his opponent. She reaches out with all her heart. "Shuuji-san, respectfully, get his *ss."

WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?

I have my favorite dynamics for my mains, due to most of my OTPs being me self-shipping my girls with whatever vibes. My favorite dynamics are the following:

AVIAN. either himbo/bimbo-energy that always drags her into stupid shit or a stick-in-the-mud who's trying to get her out of shit. bonus points if they are flirtatious and a little bit dangerous for my favorite "bad girl/good girl" combo. bonus, bonus points for that partner being a woman.

TERRAH. i enjoy her calmly bringing morally ambiguous figures to their knees because they are so, so desperately in love with her. because she deserves to be adored for being herself. bonus points if her partner is a bad/evil person to everyone except her

LILAH. therapy. jk. kinda. Lilah would prefer a smooth talker; someone she can battle wits with but can come kiss them when the sun sets. she wants a romantic to sweep her off her feet, one who's willing to love and let go as easily. she demands something temporary, indulgent. I love messy dynamics for her.

ELVIRA. ivy has two sides they enjoy: those who embody sunlight and those who embody moonlight. bonus points if she has them both. Ivy fares better in a polyamory dynamic, having two partners to balance their mercurial personality.

HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

The majority of my characters are at least 22+ and up, and I refuse to ship anything underage or if the character isn’t at a minimum of 21+. I’m flexible in terms of age gaps up to 10+ years, but I am selective. Will need heavy plotting prior to justify the reasoning. 

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

Anything beyond a chaste kiss on the lips that de-evolves to heavy kissing and touching is when I usually start considering things NSFW. If the end goal is to fuck or get freaky, that’s NSFW. And that also depends on the characters as well, as some of them have different definitions of intimacy & sex.

ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

Yes, I am. I love shipping, so I try not to be too strict with it. If the characters vibe, they vibe. However, given the majority of the characters here are black women, I’m very particular about certain dynamics. These girls, no matter how hard they come off, are soft, gentle, and/or passionate in their dynamics, and I get really, really whiffy if someone comes up to me to make my girls more gruff or animalistic than they really are. I will shut that shit down fast if I even catch a whiff of an odd dynamics that hyper-masculizes my girls.

I am more explicitly strict on Jackson & Jo when it comes to shipping. Jo-hui explicitly because of her sexual trauma and Jackson for the trauma he brings to others. Also given that Jackson’s the only guy on the blog, I gotta be particular on who’s gonna have his heart.

It’s been clear that the Tanizakis aren’t siblings from the very beginning

here’s some evidence now that it’s been confirmed canon…

everyone who’s read irl Tanizaki’s book knew that Junichiro & Naomi weren’t siblings as soon as they introduced themselves

BUT just because the Tanizakis aren’t siblings doesn’t mean you can’t feel uncomfortable about them. if you feel uncomfortable, GOOD. that’s exactly what they want

the Tanizakis, Mori— they all use these disturbing ruses to disarm or distract people in order to protect themselves, or to accomplish their goals. this is a writing device that asagiri commonly employs as a way to parallel the irl literature (it’s actually ingenious)

there are 4 main indicators that have always made it clear to me that Junichiro & Naomi are not siblings:

1. most obviously— their character designs. Harukawa is extremely intentional with character designs, & she very intentionally made Naomi & Junichiro look nothing alike

their eye shapes are purposely different

their color palettes are contrasting

even their differing styles of clothing have meaning

this was all done so that the audience could PLAINLY see that they’re not related— so that WE know that they’re lying when they say they ARE related

2. how the people around them respond to their act.

the general reaction is “don’t question it”— which is exactly what they want. “be distracted by how uncomfortable you feel so that you look away from what we’re hiding” (this is likely a protective measure)

3. most importantly, this is meant to parallel irl Tanizaki’s book “Naomi,” where the main character Joji picks up Naomi to raise her into his ideal woman, but since she's so young (& a minor) they call each other cousins (Joji makes no sexual advances on young Naomi btw)

however, his plan backfires because when Naomi gets older & they get married, she flips the script on him & manipulates HIM so that he's under her thumb (which is why bsd Tanizaki is at a domineering Naomi's mercy). Joji let her have her way because of his masochistic tendencies

4. lastly is the emphasis that Asagiri and the Tanizakis themselves put on calling each other siblings.

over & over, it’s “my brother this” & “my sister that”

like they’re desperately trying to convince us that it’s true (“don’t let your lying eyes deceive you”)

here are just a few of many examples from the light novels…

again, if you’ve read “Naomi” you knew that Junichiro & Naomi weren’t siblings as soon as they introduced themselves

just like if you’ve read irl Mori’s works, it’s clear that bsd Mori isn’t a pedophile

just like if you’ve read No Longer Human you know that Dazai’s an unreliable narrator. he makes you think he’s a bad person bc he believes he’s a bad person, but those around him see him differently (btw this doesn’t mean he’s never done anything “bad,” though bsd isn’t about morality— but that’s another discussion)

anyway, i’m so excited for the Tanizakis backstory to be revealed so that we can better understand why they use this defense!!

also let this be a reminder to READ THE LITERATURE if you’re able to!! even reading synopses & analyses of the coordinating books makes bsd make much more sense 🥹
