Summary:
“I’ve already figured it all out, but I’m not going to be a peacock about it,” the fourth Wei Wuxian said with a wide grin, which in the real one's opinion should have immediately outed him as a fake (he was not that provocative!), but the Jiang Chengs, the Jiang Yanlis, the Nie Huaisangs, the Lan Wangjis, and Jin Zixuan all shared a look.
Or, in which the Phoenix Mountain Hunt gets even more chaotic when someone sets a several-thousand-year-old fox demon loose.
It's going to be a long afternoon...

SO ABOUT THOSE DUNGEON MESHI SHAPESHIFTERS :D
I needed this xD
One day I will probably do more thoughtful/serious takes on the shapeshifters, but for now I need my crackfic fix :D

Owlbear Vignettes
Tumblr media
At first, Buddy sticks very close to Hector in camp. Hector was the one who fed him first. Hector is kind, with a soft voice. Hector gives him scritches between the ears and murmurs blessings Buddy doesn't understand. Hector is not Mother, but Hector is safe.
The others take some getting used to.
-----
Karlach is not expecting it, the first night Buddy tries to sleep in the tent with them. She's half-asleep and at first only dimly aware of claws jabbing through her clothes, which meld unpleasantly with a dream of stinging sparks in the Hells. Her eyes flicker open - and then she jumps as she comes face to face with an owlbear beak. Buddy has nestled himself between her and Hector, curled into a floofed-up ball.
"Aw, hells. Hec--" she says sleepily.
"Mmph?" Hector answers. "Wha-- ack!" There's a sudden sputtering noise as he rolls over into a faceful of feathers.
"That."
She hears Hector laugh softly in the darkness. "Buddy, you can't sleep there." He nudges at the cub's flank; Buddy makes a soft noise of objection. "Come on, Bud."
Buddy gives a chirping whine but allows himself to be displaced so Hector can snuggle in against Karlach again. The cub considers the situation for a moment, then flops deliberately on Hector's other side, staring at Karlach the whole time as if daring her to say anything about it.
"I think I have competition," she tells Hector with a grin.
"You're way prettier than he is, don't worry," Hector mumbles into her shoulder.
-----
Gale makes a picture of a woman, but she has no smell. Buddy doesn't like that. It seems wrong.
Wyll emerges from his tent to the sound of Waterdhavian-accented oration at full volume.
"That is the goddess of magic, Buddy. That is Mystra herself!" Gale is lecturing the little beast, poking a finger into Buddy's face. "You cannot simply swipe a claw through her as if she were a mouse you'd caught unawares. That is a disrespect of the highest order and I would have thought you smart enough to know better."
Buddy listens attentively, his head cocked over to one side, occasionally chirping whenever Gale pauses for breath.
"I understand that you are an owlbear and therefore not privy to the mysteries of the Weave," the mage goes on. "But that does not exempt you from a certain level of basic decency towards the divine. I will thank you to remember this in future and improve your decorum."
Wyll grins, folding his arms as he watches this little display unfold. "Do you want to try it again with an animal speaking potion?"
Gale sighs. "No, no, never mind. He's just a beast after all, he can't really be expected to understand."
"I don't know," Wyll says mildly. "Perhaps he has the right of it. A protective instinct, if you will, given the target does want you to blow yourself up. I think he's not the only one in camp who would give her a swipe if they could."
"I'll thank you to keep your disrespect to yourself as well," Gale says dryly. His fingers flick through the air, conjuring a new, glowing image of his goddess.
Buddy swats a paw through her again at once.
-----
The githyanki is sharp like Mother's claws. She snaps when Buddy comes close, sniffs disdainfully when he scarfs down some of the camp supplies. He steers clear and watches her from a distance.
He understands how this works. She is one of the alphas. She must be brought a gift before she will accept him in the flock.
One night, Hector watches with bemusement as the cub, his whole expression screwed up with deep owlbear concentration, drags a large dead rabbit through the camp.
Catching Hector's gaze, he drops the rabbit and chirps softly, wandering in a slow circle around his prize. His feathers fluff up in a deliberate attempt to make himself look bigger, as if to steel himself for a great challenge. Then he grabs the rabbit again by the head, and in a single smooth motion, drags it into the tent where Lae'zel is currently sleeping.
There is a brief moment of silence, followed by a yell that echoes through the whole camp. Buddy, still poofed out in all directions, comes sailing through the tent flap, tumbling end over end and hitting the ground some distance away. The dead rabbit follows closely thereafter.
The next morning, Lae'zel acts as if nothing happens, but Hector does note with some surprise that she gives Buddy an absent pat on the head every time she walks past him. Later, she offers him a torn off scrap of the hunk of jerky she grabs for her evening meal.
"You're not holding his midnight visit against him, then?" Hector asks her.
"On the contrary," she says gravely. "The creature offered tribute to me as its jhe'stil, and showed bravery in doing so. It has earned the respect due a beast of combat."
"But you threw him out of the tent!"
She looks at him unblinkingly. "Yes."
Hector considers trying to understand this, and then decides not to bother.
-----
Shadowheart rarely comes close at first to either Buddy or Scratch. She is wary of them as beasts of the forest. Scratch says she is afraid of wolves. Buddy is NOT a wolf - but he is almost as big as one, so he thinks maybe it makes sense.
She often looks at him like she would like to pet him, though. A few times, she does drift near, and lays her hand gently between his ears on the soft feathers at the nape of his neck. And he sees a little smile tug at her lips - but then there is a flash of magic around her hand, and she winces or cries out in pain and draws away.
Many weeks on, deep in the Shadowlands, there is a great commotion one night - an explosion of light and crashing and roaring in the distance. Buddy watches with great interest, and some concern, as Hector returns to the camp with Karlach and Wyll, all of them covered in blood and slime. Shadowheart, equally battered, follows behind them at a distance, her eyes hollow and her face even paler than usual.
Buddy finds her in her tent later, staring at the wall in the darkness. He sits in the tent flap and chirps questioningly.
"No. Go away," she mutters. "I can't--"
She falls silent. He chirps again, scoots a little closer to her.
"It hurt so much..." she whispers. "All this time, all that pain... for a lie..."
She gives a sudden hoarse, humorless laugh. "There was never any wolf. D'you know that? There was never any wolf at all."
He gives a soft, whickering sort of noise and nudges his head cautiously against her hand. There is no flash of magic, no cry of pain. He does it again. Her fingers fist suddenly into his feathers, pulling him towards her.
He squawks, alarmed, then relaxes as she presses her face into the soft down of his back and sobs.
-----
Late one night, Astarion tracks a deer through the woods. They're difficulty prey, jumpy and skittish, but his steps are light, an almost inaudible tread. And they have quite a lot of blood in them. The hunger gnaws at his stomach and his red eyes gleam in the moonlight.
Just a little closer...
His boot knocks against an ill-placed stone, barely a rustle of sound but enough. The deer lifts its head and gives a keening cry, and bolts.
"Oh-- damn it," he mutters, straightening out of his crouched position. His fingers flex with undirected frustration and he leans heavily against a nearby tree. "Damn, damn, damn." What a feast that would have been... the local squirrel population has been decent, but deer is something else entirely. One of his favorites, second only to the kobolds and, of course, the one pure draught he got from Hector's throat...
His thoughts are interrupted by the sound of an animal squealing in abject pain, a ripping, tearing noise of wet meat - and then a soft chirp. He looks down, puzzled.
Buddy is sitting looking up at him with bright, wide eyes. His beak is coated in blood, and he bounces in an excited circle around Astarion's feet before guiding him through the foliage nearby. The deer sits sprawled on the mossy ground, its head bent at an odd angle.
"Huh." Astarion raises his eyebrows, examining the gory tableau. His stomach growls audibly at the glinting shine of wet blood at the deer's throat. "Not badly done. I didn't think I was in the market for a hunting partner, but perhaps we should work together more often."
Buddy wiggles all over with excitement and butts his head against Astarion's leg.
"Yes, yes, you're very cute. Now stay out of the way and let me drain this thing before you start looking tasty as well."
-------
"No!" Minsc bellows, looking down at the cub imperiously. "You will stand aside, beast; though your talons be very sharp and your beak to match, Minsc will bear each scratch before you shall lay one claw upon Boo!"
Buddy cowers back, his eyes very wide and all his feathers standing up, as the berserker towers over him. Boo sits atop Minsc's head and squeaks angrily down at the cub from his perch.
"Minsc!" Jaheira steps in between them, raising one hand before Minsc can speak again. "Calm yourself. I heard you all the way across the camp. What is the matter?"
"Minsc woke to find the little feather-beast eyeing Boo with the hungriest of eyes," Minsc says fiercely. "Does he think Boo a little snack to be feasted upon?!"
"No doubt," Jaheira says calmly, struggling not to smile; Minsc is obviously incensed, and yet there is something comical in seeing him stare down the little round ball of feathers with such ferocity. "For he is a beast of nature; why should he know otherwise?"
"Well, he shall not have him!"
"Peace." Jaheira crouches next to the owlbear, murmurs a spell under her breath; green light flares around her body. "Do you hear me, cub?" she murmurs.
Buddy goes very still; his feathers flatten out and he stares at her with wide eyes. "You... speak?" he whispers.
"With all the wisdom that nature gave me." She smiles, reaches out to scratch him under the chin. "You must leave the hamster alone. For he is Minsc's to protect, as you are Hector's."
The cub chirrups skeptically. "Rat. Tasty," he points out.
"There is no shortage of rats in the city," Jaheira says dryly. "We shall find you other meat. But you must promise to leave Boo in safety."
Buddy makes a soft grumbling noise. "All right. Promise," he mumbles.
Jaheira looks up at Minsc, her eyes glinting with amusement. "The bargain is made," she says soberly.
"Ah." Minsc brightens up at once and grins. "Good. Minsc did not want to kick such a little, cute butt, if there was any helping it."
Buddy trots along at Jaheira's side as she walks away; his sharp little eyes peer up at her excitedly. "You speak. New Mother?" he asks hopefully.
"Gods. No," Jaheira sputters. "I am no more your mother than I am Minsc's Wychlaran; where does everyone get these ideas?"
Buddy's ears turn down. "Just hoped."
She pauses, then smiles faintly. "I may not be your mother, cub, but I think you have a whole camp full of family. As creatures of the wilderness go, you have it made."
-----
Withers examines the cub closely as it creeps around the edge of the camp, watching him from the shadows. "I offer no threat to thee, little beast," the skeleton intones gravely. "Thou hast no need of secrecy."
Buddy chirps. Emerging from the shadows, he sits at Withers' feet, looking up at him.
Withers' expression does not shift. "Indeed," he murmurs. "A creature without mooring. Untethered and yet bound. A matter of luck... or of fate."
Buddy tips his head slowly to one side.
"Thou art a pillar, upon which is built the lever which shall move the world." The faintest hint of a smile twists the skeleton's lips. "And yet thou knowest it not. This is as it should be. By such truths does all remain in balance."

:0 borth??? happy birthdayyy?? :D
Also what about ranchers with 16 :3c
Borth! Thanks!
Have a cute and silly Ranchers :)
-
Tango arrived back at the Ranch after a moderately successful mining trip, expecting to find Jimmy outside working with the animals or building up the wall. Instead, the Ranch seemed deserted.
Tango frowned and headed to the main house. "Jimmy?" he called, fighting trepidation. He was probably just lost in work or something. Nothing serious.
And then Jimmy rushed out of the door, colliding with Tango just outside. Tango's relief had just a second to live before it was killed by the panic of Jimmy's face.
"Don't go inside!" Jimmy gasped.
That didn't sound good at all. Jimmy's fear was contagious, and Tango found himself nearly trembling. "What? What is it?"
"There's- there's something in there!"
Tango's tail whipped nervously, matching his soulmate's wings' movement. "What kind of something?"
"I don't know. I can hear it moving around under the basement!"
It was a trap. It had to be. Someone had trapped their base. There was a mob under there, ready to jump out and attack the second either of them stepped on the wrong plank or opened the wrong chest. A skeleton, or a creeper, or something. Something that would kill them immediately, even if there was only one of them in range.
If Tango went in there and died, Jimmy would die as well. But... they couldn't stay outside forever. They had to do something about it.
Tango straightened, balling his fists with resolve. "Watch my back," he said to Jimmy.
Jimmy couldn't believe what he was hearing. "What part of don't go inside do you not understand?!" But still, he followed Tango into the house, both of their shields raised. Together, they headed down to the basement.
Immediately, Tango heard it too. Something walking around directly below the floor, on the other side of the room. He tried to figure out what it was, but the sound was echoing too much to be anything approaching identifiable, like the creature was in some sort of chamber.
Beside him, Jimmy was wringing his hands, panicked and trying not to be. "It was Joel," he was saying. "I know it."
"Or Scar," Tango suggested. He was doing about as well as Jimmy at hiding his fear, his flames growing brighter and his tail flicking around like a trapped fly at a window. And yet, he managed to keep his footsteps steady as he started to approach the corner the sound was coming from.
He'd barely taken two steps when the footsteps below got louder. No, not louder - closer. Tango froze, letting out a little squeal. The creature moved nearer and nearer, and Tango started backing away, until he was shoulder to shoulder with Jimmy, their backs against the wall. The thing was between them and the ladder back up to safety, trapping them.
"What do we do, what do we do, what do we do?" Jimmy hissed, his voice rising in pitch with each repetition.
"Um." Tango brain had shut down, too afraid to think. "Uh." He did the only thing he could come up with. He broke the floor.
"Why would you do that?!" Jimmy squeaked, his voice so high now that it was almost inaudible.
"I panicked!"
With the new hole in the floor, they could see the shallow ditch below it. They were one block above what seemed to be a small, natural cave, and hadn't even known it. And now it would kill them.
That was the moment the thing decided to strike, leaping out of the hole and right at them with terrifying speed and accuracy.
Both men shrieked, Jimmy leaping into the air and into Tango's arms, presumably on some avian instict to find high ground. Unfortuntaley, Tango was not very tall; Jimmy was easily a head taller than him. Despite this, Jimmy felt heavy as a feather, and Tango held him easily.
Tango squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for death, ready for the pain then the pull of the respawn that would put them on red.
Nothing happened.
Slowly, Tango opened his eyes.
Standing in front of him, innocently scratching at the stone floor, was a chicken. Just a tiny, harmless chicken.
There was a moment of shaken silence as they both took in the animal in their basement, then the chicken let out a squawk and Tango burst out laughing.
In his arms, Jimmy was going bright red, too embarassed to see the humour in the situation.
"Oh yeah, Joel's really stepped up his trapping game!" Tango wheezed. "We should have thought of that!"
"Yes, very funny," Jimmy grumbled. "You can put me down, now."
Tango did, still losing his mind. If he could cry, he definitely would be now. "I think I need new trousers!" he joked.
Jimmy managed a tiny smirk. "Did you poop a little?"
"I definitely pooped a little!"
And then Jimmy was laughing along, too. "Yeah, I think I did too."
Tango scooped the chicken up under his arm and climbed back up the ladder one handed, using his tail for balance, and Jimmy followed, ready to catch him if he fell.
The chicken made for a delicious dinner that night.

Whumptober Day 9: Mistaken Identity
Read on Ao3
- Legend & Hyrule
- Summary: Legend is mistaken for Hyrule
CW for drugging, blood and injury (specifically to a character's neck), a character nearly suffocating, and a very near-death experience
---------------------
The world is in flashes of light and color and sound. Muffled yells, orders he doesn’t understand – they collide, pounding against Legend’s aching skull.
Rough hands yank him into a standing position (he hadn’t even realized he had been lying prone on the hard ground). He stumbles, cursing.
What in Hylia’s name had happened to him?
He remembers bits and pieces. Flitting images, parts of memories that he can just barely snatch. He was walking through a dungeon, he thinks, and somehow had been separated from the others. And then he had come upon a chest and opened it…
Everything after that is hazy. Far hazier than the other memories are.
His befuddlement is infuriating. He’s the veteran of hero business. He knows everything but everything. Yet he can’t even recall how he ended up where he is. And he certainly can’t collect his thoughts enough to figure out an escape.
Ropes find their way around his wrists and ankles now. A gag pulls tight between his lips. He wavers and bumps against one of his captors’ hips. They shove at him, blurry faces leering.
“Take him outside!” One of them shouts. The sound reverberates through Legend’s head and he cringes.
By the golden three can they not be a little quieter?
Suddenly, the ground tilts, dipping as he rises without moving a muscle. In the next moment, he finds himself slung over someone’s shoulder like a bag of grain.
His sluggish mind struggles to comprehend. Dimly, he realizes he should fight back. Clumsily, weakly he tries. But his body is as uncooperative as his mind. Whatever runs through his veins is too potent to be pushed aside by anger and fear.
His captors laugh at him, the sound grating and infuriating. It brings to mind Agahnim’s patronizing cackles as he had shot beams of magic at his face.
“Don’t worry you boy,” someone sneers in his ear. “It’ll all be over soon. So unfortunate for you, though, that you won’t get to see him.”
More laughter. Legend shuts his eyes, willing the world to stop moving, stop tilting.
“Indeed, and yet, it will be your blood that resurrects him. Intriguing isn’t it? That a hero possesses the power to resurrect Gandondorf.”
Legend’s eyes fly back open, his blood running icy cold.
What on earth…
He has heard tales along his journey with the other heroes, tales of a boy with blood that can bring back a great evil. But he had never heard enough to decide whether or not to believe it. And he certainly knows that boy is not him.
A chill hits him as they leave the darkness of the building. If he squints he can make out the sky, lit by twilight’s glorious glow. It reflects upon the sand and cliff sides in shades of shell pink.
But he hardly sees it. Panic has surged through the haze now and he struggles, still feeble, still uncoordinated, yet more desperate than ever.
His blood is incapable of resurrecting that evil man. If it were, he would know. These people, however, obviously didn’t get the memo. And in order to try and achieve their dastardly goal, they undoubtedly will need to extract quite a bit of blood. Possibly, enough to kill him.
Legend would really rather remain alive.
His thrashing is as fruitless as before, though. All it earns him is a few grunts of pain from his captor, and a very unpleasant plunge down into the sand. He hits it with a muffled groan.
But seconds later he’s up again. Hands fist in his hair, dragging him into a standing position. Cool metal presses against his neck.
“You know the spell, don’t you?” Someone hisses. “Well, get on with it.”
A small group of the masked men band together a few steps away from him, muttering in a language Legend has never heard before. With every word their voices grow louder. With every word his heart beats faster.
Whatever drug they had given him is slowly draining away and as it leaves, utter terror replaces it. He dares not fight now, however, not with the sickle that is biting at his throat. It will strike soon anyway, but some innate instinct forces him to prolong the seconds in which he isn’t choking on his own blood.
Every moment counts, he guesses, especially when you know they’ll be your last. Too bad he’ll spend them restrained by coarse ropes, a stranger’s grip, and the substance still clouding his mind; trembling from pain and cold and a nauseating mix of terror and fury.
It has been a long time since he felt quite this helpless.
The chants grow steadily louder and take on an eeriness that sends shivers running laps down his back. And then one of the men raises his voice into a shout. Before Legend has a moment to prepare, his captor brings the sickle across his neck.
A stinging burn encases the spot. Blood floods his throat. Eyes blown wide with panic, Legend struggles, trying to drag in a breath through the metallic liquid he is suddenly drowning in. It’s as though he is on the sea once more, buffeted by wind and rain, choking on salty water.
He can see it through blurred eyes, cascading down his chest in gory rivulets of red.
It’s going to stain my tunic, he thinks, dazedly. It’s a shame. I liked this one.
Fingers brush roughly over the gash, gathering more blood. Cackles of sadistic glee ring in his ears. The chants continue their ominous rhythm as the world begins to go a dismal gray.
Everything seems to swirl around him, mad and out of control. Faster and faster it goes as his panic builds, making him dizzy.
Then, abruptly, it stops.
“It didn’t work!” Someone shouts, voice echoing in the sudden stillness.
If he wasn’t actively bleeding out, Legend would laugh in their faces. But his grasp on anything resembling consciousness is slipping fast, his strangled breaths growing shallower, and distantly, dully, he knows it’s coming. It’s a wonder he has held on for this long.
Yet still he gasps like a fish on land, still he fights to keep his eyes open and the darkness at bay.
He has to get back to his brothers and Zelda and Ravio. He won’t leave them, he won’t, he can’t….
“Maybe we need more blood!”
His back hits the sand. Legend writhes, trying to breathe past the cloth sticking to his lips, the iron flooding his lungs. Each breath gurgles, bringing in nothing but more liquid. The ground tilts dizzyingly.
Then, pain rips through him anew as they carve a gash into his arm. A silent scream rises in his heaving chest and never comes out. Blood runs hot and thick, soaking his clothing, turning the sand red. It’s everywhere. He inhales it, tastes it, smells it.
Light and darkness dance before him, a kaleidoscope of rainbow hues.
My son, his uncle says and his kind voice is like a balm, soothing endless pain. It is time to go home.
It is time to fly away, Link, Marin sings. And be free as I am.
Legend tries once more to breathe. He fails.
“No!”
Hands enclose his wrist. Magic jolts through him like an electric current, zipping through his body. It sears into his neck, red-hot with fury and determination.
Hyrule.
“Don’t give up, you can’t— ”
Another surge of power. The darkness begins to slip away and Uncle and Marin fade with it. Legend chokes on a sob, reaching out.
Don’t leave me again.
“But it is time,” his uncle says again. “It is time to go home.”
Marin smiles, sweet and agonizing. “Go and be free.”
Be free. Be home.
“Come on, vet. Don’t leave me!”
Another hand reaches to him out of the darkness. As tears stream down his face and pain tears through him, Legend turns around, reaches out, and grasps it.
Light penetrates his vision. Faces float into his line of sight, some tear-streamed and pale, all worried. The faces of his brothers.
Hyrule hovers inches from him, hands warm and real in his, fire and terror swirling in his irises, lips set in a thin line of determination. But when Legend’s eyes find his, his expression morphs into a tearful grin.
“Ledge?”
Legend’s lips lift in a small smile of his own. “H-hey ‘rule.”
The words are torture on his abused throat and the salt water draining down isn’t helping matters either. But then, Hyrule pulls him into a hug and nothing else matters.
The others join in seconds later. They’re all gentle, all cognizant of his still-fresh wounds, and their arms envelope him like a blanket.
Any other time this would be off limits entirely. At least, not without a big to-do about elbows in his stomach and breath in his face. But now, Legend doesn’t care.
Pretenses and reputation be damned. He wants his brothers here, surrounding him, keeping him safe.
So, he buries his face in Hyrule’s shoulder. And he breathes.

// I took a break today cause I run a small testing session for a system I've been dying to try out, Dungeon World. Especially since it got a big update recently.
It's super fun, more narrative leaning, without much math, but it offers a ton of really fun options for every class to play with and really immerse itself in the theme.
Me and my friend tested a lvl1 Paladin and Fighter in a small mission and combat, and we were both surprised by how many cool and thematic things we could do while being so easy to build, understand and remember.

—————
The sun was setting.
The sun was really fucking setting.
They were supposed to have met up hours ago; even Luffy had made it back to the Sunny on time—if only because Nami had told him to be back an hour earlier than everyone else—yet, the stupid swordsman was nowhere to be found.
Not that anyone was surprised but hunting for his… directionally-challenged ass all over the island was always such a waste of time. Not for the first time, Sanji wondered whether they shouldn’t just get a leash for him and tie him to the Sunny’s main mast. Limit his area of unsupervised operations.
Sadly, knowing the Marimo and his track record of making Chopper cry by removing his bandages, he’d just end up chewing through the leash and getting lost anyway.
“Nami~! Let me go explore more,” Luffy whined, drooping over the railing with a pout.
“No,” Nami refused without even looking up from her cartographic notes. “We don’t need two lost children to worry about.”
At that, Luffy stuck his bottom lip out even more. “But I’m so bored!”
“Let’s just leave Zoro here,” Usopp sighed from where he was laying sprawled on the lawn.
“I second that,” Sanji joined in without missing a beat.
More and more voices of agreement started joining in, including the Heart Pirates who had accompanied them on the journey between Wano and the next island, and Nami groaned, “I wish.” She paused to rub the bridge of her nose. “Anyone wanna go look for the idiot?”
“Sanji,” Usopp decided immediately.
Sanji froze in the middle of serving coffee to Robin before he turned to stare at the sniper. “Why the fuck should I go? Do it yourself,” he hissed, then turned back to the most important matter at hand. “Here you go, Robin-chan.”
Robin smiled, accepting the cup. “Thank you. But Usopp is right. You do have the uncanny ability to somehow find Zoro every time.”
"It's not like I—"
"Please, Sanji," Nami said then, giving Sanji an adorable pleading look.
Sanji knew it was on purpose.
He knew she knew he couldn't say no to a lady's request.
But somehow, Sanji couldn’t bring himself to care. He was a proud slave to love, after all. "Of course, Nami-san."
Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see Usopp quickly covering his mouth to stifle his snort; Sanji simply clicked his tongue and threw his serving tray at his head. He was only slightly disappointed when Usopp barely managed to avoid the projectile before finally bursting out in uncontrollable laughter.
Bastard.
—————
Sanji grumbled to himself as he made his way through the jungle. It wasn’t that hard to follow the trail of cut off branches and dead or unconscious animals but he couldn’t help but wonder; why him?
Why did he always have to be the one to go look for Zoro?
“Man, this is so fucking annoying!” he snapped, throwing a kick at the next animal to attack him. As if the stupid wandering mosshead wasn’t enough, why did he have to deal with the aggressive wildlife on top of that?
He was really quite done with this island; it had offered a nice variety of cooking ingredients but the bloodthirsty, man-eating bunnies got really old, really fast.
“Oi, Marimo! I know you’re around here! We need to set sail already!”
Silence. Sanji couldn’t say he was surprised.
He lit himself a cigarette, taking a few drags before he tried again, “Hey, Number 32!”
“What did you just call me, shitty Cook?!”
There we go, Sanji thought to himself, quickly wiping the smile that pulled on his lips off his face. He did not just think Zoro was cute for immediately raising up to the challenge.
Absolutely not.
So, instead he put on an annoyed expression before making his way through the bushes in the direction the voice had come from.
“There you are, stray Marimo,” he sighed when he made it to the other side and the Marimo in question came to view.
He was standing there, a few of the murder bunnies lying at his feet, a defiant look on his face as he asked, "What do you want, Curly?"
Sanji raised an eyebrow. "Do you realise what time it is? We were supposed to be long gone by now."
"It's not my fault you moved the ship," Zoro snapped.
He obviously tried to sound angry, but at the same time, his eyes veered off to the side, the man refusing to look at Sanji as his ears turned red—although that might have just been the setting sun playing tricks, Sanji chose to believe otherwise. Zoro crossed his arms over his chest before he grumbled something about hopeless crewmates who always got lost the second Zoro took his eyes off them.
Sanji rolled his eyes, biting back the laugh that threatened to bubble out of his chest. Always the same story, always the same excuse.
"The ship hasn't moved since this morning," Sanji said matter-of-factly. "Can't you just admit you're completely fucking lost?"
"No." He sounded so much like a petulant child that this time…
This time Sanji couldn't hold the laughter back. Shaking his head, he sighed, amusement still clear in his voice, “You’re hopeless.”
“Shut up! I’m gonna cut you,” Zoro growled, obviously not happy with Sanji’s teasing—or his glee—while his hand reached for Enma.
Sanji snorted before taking a slow drag of his cigarette, his lips twisting into a challenging smirk as he stepped forward, coming to stand right in front of the swordsman. “As if you could even find me, with your sense of direction.”
“As if I need to look for your ass when you’re right next to me!” Zoro shot back just before the tell-tale metallic sound of a katana leaving its scabbard reached Sanji’s ears.
Taking that as his cue, Sanji moved quickly. He bent his knees slightly, lowering his centre of gravity before shooting forward. Quickly taking his cigarette out of his mouth, he stepped far into Zoro’s personal space, then straightened up, pressing his lips to Zoro’s in a quick kiss.
Zoro froze, his reaction making a smirk pull on Sanji’s lips. “I win.”
Finally, Zoro woke up; resheathing Enma in the most unhappy fashion that he possibly could, the Marimo clicked his tongue in annoyance before he hissed, “That was dirty.”
“I don’t remember there being any rules against it,” Sanji said with a shrug. “Now come on, the others are waiting.”
Turning around, Sanji started heading back the way he came but before he could so much as reach the nearest tree, a hand on his wrist stopped him. He paused, his eyes dropping to where Zoro's fingers held onto his hand before slowly looking up at Zoro questioningly.
He was looking straight at Sanji, an unreadable expression on his face as his grip only tightened. Sanji wanted to ask what was wrong but as soon as he opened his mouth, he closed it again. Seconds passed while the two of them simply stared at each other, neither saying anything, unspoken tension rising until Zoro finally moved.
Or more accurately, pulled on Sanji's hand until he stumbled forward, nearly tripping over his own feet and tumbling to the ground.
Catching himself at the last second, Sanji glared at Zoro. "Oi, Marimo, what the fuck are you—"
Before he could finish the sentence, all words were stolen straight from his mouth when warm lips pressed against his own. Sanji's eyes widened in surprise; for a moment, he couldn't even process what was happening, much less react in any way. He simply stood there, letting Zoro kiss him, the hand that had been gripping his wrist releasing its grip to instead slide down Sanji's palm to lace their fingers together.
It was only when Zoro’s tongue ran over his lips that Sanji’s mind caught up. “What are you doing?” he asked, his voice deceivingly level considering the speed at which his heart was racing.
“What do you think?” Zoro said while rolling his good eye. He didn’t move away the slightest bit either and Sanji could feel every word, every breath on his skin, sending shivers down his spine. “If you were going to do it, you should have done it right.” As soon as Zoro finished talking, he leaned forward, closing the distance again.
This time, Sanji didn’t protest.
He returned the kiss easily, a small laugh escaping him as their lips moved against each other with practised ease, his cigarette slipping through his fingers and falling to the ground when Sanji’s hands automatically wrapped around Zoro’s shoulders. He’d have to remember to pick it up later… but right now, all thought escaped him.
The shitty swordsman was the only thing on his mind; the taste, the smell, the feeling of Zoro against him was familiar, warm and comforting, and it was something Sanji would honestly never get tired of. Just like he would never get tired of the butterflies that fluttered in his stomach every time Zoro touched him like this—not that he'd ever admit to there being any butterflies.
Sanji welcomed the hand that soon found its way on his hip, pushing him back and guiding him until his back hit a tree. Sanji gasped at the impact, a curse on his lips that got swallowed by the tongue that slipped past them. Sanji couldn’t say he was complaining.
Not breaking their kiss, Zoro let go of Sanji’s hand to instead reach upward. Seconds later, warm fingers brushed Sanji's cheek; he had to stop himself from moaning when Zoro buried his fingers in his hair, scratching the scalp slightly.
Zoro was absolutely doing it on purpose, Sanji knew.
When he cracked his eyes open a little to glare at his partner only to see the cheeky glint in Zoro's gaze, Sanji decided it was high time to push back.
He pulled away slightly, just enough for Zoro to let him go, before going straight for Zoro's neck. Weak point for weak point, right?
Sanji relished in the gasp that Zoro couldn't bite back as soon as Sanji started sucking and licking at the skin just below the swordsman's ear.
But that wasn't enough for Sanji.
He let his hands trace the hems of Zoro's coat before finally slipping them inside, running them over the warm skin of his stomach, then his sides, pushing Zoro's coat open more and more.
Every sharp breath Zoro took, every slight tug on his hair… it was all just making him feel hotter, his skin tingling all over.
If they didn't stop soon…
Suddenly, something rustled behind them.
“Fucking seriously?!” Zoro groaned and Sanji could do nothing but agree with the sentiment.
Moving in tandem, both Zoro and Sanji pulled away from each other, Enma leaving its scabbard at an impossible speed while Sanji’s leg shot out, scalding blue flames licking at his foot. It took only a second for all the fucking bunnies who had attacked all at once to fall to the ground, whimpering after the pirates’ joint attack.
A single second… yet even that was enough to completely murder the mood.
Sanji sighed deeply, pulling out a new cigarette and lighting it, taking a long, long drag. Then another and another. Finally, after most of it was gone, he felt the frustration subside. He turned to look at Zoro, who was still standing there with his katana in hand, looking like he was about to slaughter the entire bunny population on this goddamned island.
Sighing again, Sanji took the few steps that separated them now. Closing his hand into a fist, he sharply knocked Zoro over the head. “Let’s go, Marimo. Or the ship will leave without us.”
It took Zoro a moment to move, but then he slowly put Enma away, his face twisted in annoyance as he looked back at Sanji. “You’re making this up to me later.”
“For what, the fucking bunnies? Forget it,” Sanji hissed before he turned around to lead the way back.
“For getting me all worked up for nothing, you ass,” Zoro grumbled and Sanji could only roll his eyes. "You're worse than the damn bunnies—"
“Not my fault you’re such a horny Marimo. Also—where are you going?”
Zoro froze at his words, slowly turning around, obviously searching for where the hell Sanji was talking from. Only when their eyes met, did he open his mouth to reply. “To the ship.” He sounded so confident when he said it, too.
Sanji wanted to rip his hair out.
“I’m literally leading the way! What are you, a toddler?!”
“What did you just say?!”
—————
It was almost dark already by the time two animal noses twitched on the decks of the allied pirate ships.
“Captain, Black Leg and Roronoa are back!” Bepo called from the Tang.
At the same time, Chopper rushed off from where he was playing with Usopp and Penguin, jumping onto the Sunny’s railing to look out towards the island, waving one of his hoofed hands at the two. “Sanji! Zoro! You’re late!” He sounded entirely too cute considering the scolding tone in his voice.
“Fucking finally,” Law muttered to himself, prompting Straw Hat and Nico Robin—who were the closest to him—to snicker at his suffering. As if it was his fault that he had been forced to sit there doing nothing for hours.
“Chopper, can you throw us the ladder?” Black Leg called toward the little reindeer who immediately tapped his forehead with his hoof and ran off.
“What, not gonna show off with your Sky Walk?” Zoro asked.
As expected, Black Leg immediately snapped back, “Are you asking me to carry you up there, princess Marimo?”
Law couldn’t help but roll his eyes. These two really couldn’t go five minutes without fighting—or flirting?—awkwardly, could they?
Before the exchange could escalate, Chopper interrupted the starting fight. “Sorry, here you go!” he called as he dropped down the ladder. “By the way, are you holding hands so Zoro doesn’t get lost again?”
Immediately, complete and utter silence settled over the two ships. It was almost as if even the ocean froze in its tracks, the crashing of the waves fading away while eyes went wide and mouths fell open. Holding hands? Those two?
The same two idiots who had been dancing around each other for as long as Law had known them, the same two idiots who kept making their fighting look like foreplay, the same two idiots who had been filling the Thousand Sunny with unbearable sexual tension constantly? Without ever doing anything about it?
Were the innocent, uninvolved people like Law, the people who were forced to watch them… finally free?
The rope ladder creaked, and the sound echoed around the deck like thunder. No one moved, just waiting quietly in a trance until finally, Black Leg’s head poked out from behind the railing. First his hair, then his face.
His red, burning face.
He looked like a tomato with blond hair and if he wasn’t so stunned, Law would have laughed in his face at the sight he made. As it was, he could only follow the Straw Hats’ lead and stare blankly as the man reached the deck, his eyes glued to the floor; he still refused to look at anyone when he muttered something about dinner and all but ran to the kitchen.
“Impossible,” Nami whispered and suddenly, the spell broke.
“Oh my, I can barely believe my eyes! Although I don’t have eyes!” Brook said.
“We’re getting drunk tonight, oh my god! The tension will finally be gone!” Usopp shouted, his fists shooting high into the air with a relieved laugh and everyone else cheered in agreement.
Just then, Zoro hauled himself over the railing. “Oh, shut up,” he snapped, a highly annoyed expression on his face as he glowered at his crewmates one after the other.
“Hey, man. It’s your own fault we’re super happy about it!” Franky shot back, pointing an accusing finger at Zoro, then at the kitchen to indicate Sanji. “It was high time you two got together.”
Zoro rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to growl something back, but Chopper interrupted him.
“What happened? Why is everyone acting so weird?” he asked innocently.
A few glances were exchanged before Penguin oh-so-helpfully explained, “Because someone finally kissed and made up.”
“Eh?” Chopper let out, his face scrunching up in an adorable, confused frown. “But Zoro and Sanji have kissed before…?”
And the heavy silence was back as this time, everyone stared at Chopper in shock.
“What? What?!” the poor reindeer cried, completely panicked, looking around as if begging for answers.
“You’re fucking kidding me,” Usopp groaned, burying his face in his hands in despair. “Are you telling me we’ve been dealing with all this sexual tension even while it was being resolved? Is there no hope for us?!”
Nami, on the other hand, strode over to Zoro, poking at his chest angrily. “Why didn’t you tell us? When did this start? Do you know how much money I have riding on you idiots?!”
“It’s not my fault you bet on stupid shit!” Zoro hissed back, slapping Nami’s hand away. “And it’s not like we were hiding it when none of you asked!”
“Are you listening to this asshole?” Penguin said, strangely frustrated for a man from a completely different pirate crew.
Law raised his eyebrow while shooting Penguin a look. “You bet on this, didn’t you?”
Penguin only shrugged, not even having the decency to look ashamed. “What can I say, I can never resist drama that doesn’t involve me in any way.”
Law sighed. He was surrounded by idiots.
At that, Straw Hat started laughing. The sound was loud and carefree, reverberating around the entire ship and through Law’s chest from where Luffy was leaning against him, sounding like a happy chime that slowly made everyone relax.
Nami threw her arms into the air and huffed before leaving Zoro alone. Usopp let go of a deep breath and shot Zoro one last glare. Nico Robin only chuckled at the crew’s reactions, looking so relaxed the entire time that Law wondered whether she had had an inkling about Zoro and Black Leg’s relationship.
Even Law felt a tug on the corners of his mouth, a smile trying to force its way on his lips.
But then, something else dawned on him.
“Oh my god,” he groaned, his head falling forward until his face was buried in the crook of Luffy’s neck. “I’m never setting foot in the crow’s nest ever again.”
“Why?” Luffy asked.
Law marvelled at his innocence. “Why? Because they definitely fucked in there!”
“Torao, don’t be a baby,” Nami said, and Law could basically hear her eyes rolling.
“Well, excuse me for not wanting to touch anything that anyone might have fucked on,” Law snapped back, not even bothering to look up and simply hoping his voice would convey the disgust he felt.
A beat of silence passed.
“Torao…” Franky started slowly. “Luffy’s literally sitting on your lap right now.”
“I don’t see your point,” Law muttered back.
Law felt Luffy nod in agreement. “Yeah, we’re not fucking anywhe—mmmfff!”
“Not one more word in front of Chopper,” Nico Robin said firmly, a clear threat in her voice.
“Nico-ya, he’s a doctor. I’m pretty sure he knows how this—” Suddenly, a bodiless hand slapped over his mouth, probably in the same fashion as it did over Luffy’s.
“I don’t care. Not. One. Word.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake…
When Law finally looked up to give her an unimpressed stare, he startled at the glare she was giving him. Suddenly, he remembered who she was—Nico Robin, the Demon Child; someone who had been on the run from the entire world all alone for twenty years. This was a woman who had definitely killed before… and who certainly didn’t look like she was above murder now.
Law was ashamed to admit he was too scared to protest her demands right then.
Thankfully, before anyone else could notice how he froze in fear, a loud yawn attracted everyone’s attention. “If we’re done here, I’m going to take a nap.” Zoro announced, then took a step forward.
Immediately, Nami, Usopp, and Penguin turned to him, identical sharp, positively greedy looks in their eyes.
“Not before we find out who won that bet, you don’t!”

20 Questions For Writers
Wow, thank you so much for the tag @fanfictasia !! I've wanted to participate in something like this forever!! 🎶✨️✨️
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Right now? 66.
"Yes, as a star wars writer, I am very proud of that. No, I do not intend to change it anytime soon."
I really need to focus on (and finish) some of my WIPs, and that mean trying not to disperse my energy amidst one shots (no matter how much i love monthly challenges and fic exchange events). Also I'm very proud of that 66 count and want to appreciate it xd.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
321k words!!
(More or less 100k / year 🎶 little me would never believe that 0.0
My school exam results sure don't, with how they are dropping 🤣)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Star wars mostly (Vaderkin or my OC Sinvulkt), then Marvel (Dr Strange), Dream SMP (Dream), Le Visiteur du Future (Renard) and more recently Batman (Bruce Wayne) as well as Avatar: the last airbender (Zuko).
Plus the original stories I am supposed to write but almost never end up doing xd (the engagement in fandom compared to original stories make the switch hard xd).
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
1. Dreamt of a Never Ending Sky (Dream SMP)
2. To Fly Free Under The Morning Sun (Star Wars)
3. On the Edge of Twilight (Star Wars)
4. Scales of Embers (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
5. Crash Landing on Space Australia (Star Wars)
I'll never know how my Dream SMP fic got so much engagement. Good timing at a moment the fandom was in effervescence, I guess. Scales of Embers scoring so high is also a surprise 0.0. I discovered it had that many kudos today. It’s a shame the Dr Strange fandom is small because I think my Dr Strange WIP What If Doctor Strange Lost His Humanity ? would have deserved a place here. It definitely does in my heart.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! As a reader, I always feel super happy when the author shows that they’ve read and appreciated my comments. I know that personality an author who answers make me more likely to want to drop a comment.
As an author, I absolutely want to show how much I love every single comments, so I try to answer them all. But I get a little overwhelmed sometimes, bcs lots of other stuff going on irl or another reason. As such, it can happen that I don't feel the energy to answer a comment on the spot. And if I don't answer it on the spot (using the power of the wiggy dizzy nice happy feeling of getting a comment), I don't necessarily have the energy to answer later on. I currently have something like 60 unanswered comments I think? TT.TT
But rest assured that whether I answered or not, I absolutely adore and cherish every single ones!! Comments are amazing! ✨️.✨️
(This kind of engagement is one of the only reason I managed to settle into such an active rythm of writing after years of trying then dropping the hobby~)
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Glance at my fics.
Uhhh... This is a hard question here... Many of them have angsty endings XD
Mostly the ones at the beginning (the worst written ones xd). I wonder why~
Also a lot of them don' have endings yet XD
I'll say amidst the 'old' fics from 2021, Day 8 - Screaming (Star Wars) would be the angstier one (or most horrible one ig xd).
But as far as recent fic go... While I haven't finished writing it bcs its wordcount exploded in my face, I already plotted / drafted it a few months ago and I know the ending, so I'll choose:
Batman’s Downfall (To Stand Alone) (Batman)
I noticed my kind of angst doesn’t have much success around these parts 🫠🤣. Oh well. I cherish it all the same :3.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Sometimes I think I wrote too many fics. It's hard to select one.
Uhhh... My fluffiest works are one shots in Of Feathers and Freedom serie, but they are part of the series so it’s not really an 'ending'.
...
I'll answer for the crackiest story rather than the happiest ending bcs all my finished fics ending are ominous open ending at best xd.
The Blob Adventures Of Excentrics Jedi (Star Wars)
Because it's cute blob drawings of our crazy team of OC in taaoej, and I love them (although we are all angst lovers in taaoej, so it's more crack-angst, and we don't know the ending bcs there isn't really one. Not yet at least. Hopefully never).
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
Just my own innervoice as far as I'm aware. But then I've always been rather clueless when people tried to 'hate on me'. The message usually just got lost somewhere in dreamspace immensity, never computing.
I've found the fandoms communities really welcoming at the very least!!
9. Do you write smut?
No.
I don't really enjoy reading smut. Nor romance for the matter. I don't think I'd enjoy writing it.
But maybe I'll try one day, for the sake of experimenting all genres.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I never did. I don't know why. Maybe I just never felt the need to mix characters and universes. There are amazing crossovers out there though, so who knows, maybe one day I'll try one.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of. In all honesty, I don't think my works are nearly popular enough to get stolen xd.
My writing style isn’t that good yet, and my dislike of romance when the majority of the fandom community is ship-powered means I end up in a corner quite niche. (A corner I love, that being said. Yay Crack, Angst and Gen~)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but maybe I'll translate some of mine in french someday. Be it only so that I do write fiction in my native language from time to time.
Anyone that wanna translate my fics, feel free to!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes, To Fly Free Under The Morning Sun (Star Wars)!!
I’m still waiting for my co-author @purpleopossum to come back to me / get back in star wars mood to continue that one. 🫠
Can’t say my hopes are that high up after all this time, but it’s the redemption | healing part of the serie and I don’t really have fun writing alone redemption | healing part... i prefer doing the whole mayhem that create the injury in the first place. And with how long some of my fics hiatus are (and I got no excuse for those xd), it’s only fair for me to wait. (I did write more other works for the dragon Vader serie in the meantime xd).
I made an oath to myself to never leave a work unfinished though, so we’ll see. If in several years purple still doesn’t wish to continue it, or if she inform me she is dropping the story, I’ll try to make some kind of ending. It’s part of the game i guess.
Alternatively, the The Amazing Adventures Of Excentrics Jedi universe is a group of star wars OCs that we made together with @pat-the-togorian , @asteral-feileacan , @ct2002-rema and Xylian. I don’t know if that count as co-writing? We usually write our OCs pov.
But in all cases, co-writting is very fun and I’d definitely do it again if other opportunities arise in the future.
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
The absence of ship is my all-time favorite ship. Otherwise, "main character / digging their own grave" would be my 'favorite ship' since I tend to synch with idiots snarky jerks disasters.
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
To Fly Free Under The Morning Sun (Star Wars) that I mentioned for question 13? 🤣
More seriously, I'll answer On the Edge of Twilight (Star Wars)
Because it's my vent fic. I know the main plot line, I vaguely know the current arc, but no one can predict where the next arc will go. It's all pure impulse and while I have a vague idea of 'ending', I refuse to plan a path towards it. This fic specifically, I want to keep pure impulse. So I'd love for it to become some kind of "The NeverEnding Story". :3
16. What’s your writing strengths?
I write.
No seriously, it's not something I did four years ago appart from vent poems here and there. Writing is in itself a huge writing strenght!
Otherwise I'm also a bottomless well of idea. It's pretty neat.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
... romance?
Or dialogues. Lastly I have a lot of frustration around the transition from dialogue / transition / dialogue. I feel like I'm crap at properly timing that.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It's fun. I do it for games sometimes. Since apparently writing normally is not chllenging enough for my brain sometimes. It did teach me bits of mando'a.
Recently for Sēċan (Star Wars) I decided last minute to put the whole droid dialogue in morse, and I regret none of it.
I'm usually only doing it for one shots though, and never 'official existing' languages until now.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star wars :p
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Now that's another hard question, how am I supposed to select one.
I'm gonna answer the whole Of Feathers And Freedom (Star Wars) serie. Bcs wings. :3
Tag time~ (if you wish to)
@purpleopossum @pat-the-togorian @cinderfeather @beguilewritesstuff @purple-iris @dreaminghour @ravenite-void @trickstress333 @bluntblade @doctorgeekery @stewardofningishzida @jenae-0 @trickstress333 @kittonafoxgirl @pastelcourage @salparadiselost @kefalion @charlottevader @ravenstakeflight @starr234 @aelaer @sarcasticfirefighter @mckiwi @linzerj @sonderwalker @exomal @tonhalszendvics @nephilimswitchlight @firejay112 @only-here-for-the-star-wars @ajedilikehisfather @makaronik @chickadeechickadoo @dirtkid123 @numerousbees1106 @akizumy @25centsoda @udekai @wendingways @silvereddaye @in-company-of-misery @wisechaosglitter @kuraiarcoiris @alright-anakin @wyvunn you're more than welcome to join on the interview fun!! (Or to ignore the tagging if not interested xd).
I know I tagged. I lot of people. Some of you may recognise my pseud, some may not. But I thought it would be interesting to hear the answer of the various authors with whom I interacted on ao3 over the years, so I went and digged up those with tumblr I could find from my inbox 🤣
(Hopefully I didn’t bother any of you >.< - otherwise I apologize. Same for if I accidentally tagged a non-writer.)
I'd love to hear your answers! 🎶

I am in the airport heading back from vacation why do I see notifs for comments asking me to DM them
#from daydreams to text#it's on my post about my TFP fic to like ?????#what about me watching Transformers Prime again and writing fanfic is getting DM requests#also like. weird. Because mine aren't like... closed?#I think they're bots but it's still strange#anyway in the fic Megs just woke up and Starscream is losing his mind#Bronwen is getting the princess treatment from Megs by being allowed to sit on his shoulder#the chapter also had flashbacks of off-screen relationship context for them so it made a bit more sense#since early fic there wasn't MUCH but it was IMPLIED that they spent time together#the previous one had a bit too#but this expanded on some basic levels of their comfort with each other#like Bronwen asking Megatron what lipstick to wear#or his opinion on her dress; or telling him what game she's playing#basic things essentially#also Starscream went kinda petty ego during his monologue earlier#like ''Once YOU'RE out of the way the little prophet is MINE and YOU CAN'T HAVE HER NYEH''#dressed up as ''she is my subordinate who can see the future'' but really it's ''I like her >:| you can't have bleh''#it's very funny to see his ego clash with his feelings#the ego of basically putting a mark on the girl with future vision. the feelings of actually loving her as a person#and the clash of ''I literally cannot let anyone- not even me- know I love this human so I'm gonna tell myself it's all a power trip''#he has the Autobots fooled. Knockout is not. Nor is Megs#it's so much XD in a fun way!#I've gotten a lot done on the plane so far#gonna see if I can wrap up a chapter now while waiting#the wait is longer than the flight so;;; wish me luck

Thank you so much for "It Is Mine to Avenge"!! It's the perfect Devil Judge fanfic! Ga On in danger, check. Protective Yo Han, check. Abyss mode activated, check. Yo Han's pov, check. Fluff and domestic scenes between him and Ga On, check. Accurate character portrayal, check. Such an incredible work!!!
Also, I love the line "If you take something that belongs to the Abyss, you better pray he never catches up with you". It's so poetic and sums up Yo Han a lot.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it 💜
I honestly expected it to be a lot shorter than it ended up being, but that's me being too optimistic, I guess. As if I would be able to keep myself from delving in deep into Yo Han's mental state as he goes searching for Ga On? And then the aftermath once he finds him, and Ga On — who knows Yo Han really well at that point — knows that Yo Han isn't nearly as stable as he pretends to be?
Character studies truly are my kryptonite sometimes.
That line was honestly stuck in my head ever since I started writing the fic. And while I first planned for it to just be one of the tags (because I so enjoy writing silly tags) I eventually realised it might work as a summary instead. Especially since summaries are annoying and the easier I can make it for myself, the better x'D
So yeah! Thank you so much for reading and for letting me know what you think! I'm so glad you liked it!

A/N: For the @albetherzine! I have too much fun writing Paimon sometimes.
In hindsight, Aether should have expected this. The realtor had been really vague when he’d asked about his roommate. The woman leaving had squeezed his shoulder in what had seemed like a reassuring manner but was now clearly pity. Even Paimon had told him the house was sketchy.
A fact she refused to let up, even now as she rattled off on the phone. “Paimon told you so! No one rents a house for that price.”
“I know, I know.” Aether sighed as he leaned against the hallway wall. “But it is a really nice house. And affordable.”
In his defense, it was an amazing place. There were three bedrooms upstairs and one in the basement, meaning the whole house was only filled with four roommates instead of the usual five to six. There were two fridges. His roommates consisted of Sucrose, a shy scientist, and Timaeus, a nerdy mechanic. When he needed to study, the house was quiet and seemingly empty.
“That’s how they trapped you.” He could almost hear Paimon roll her eyes. “You should have asked Lumine for help.”
“I didn’t want to bother her.” Aether rubbed his neck sheepishly, thinking of his twin sister. For the first time since they were born, they were in different places, in universities that were a plane’s flight away. The independence was thrilling. It was also terrifying.
“You’re just asking for help, that wouldn’t bother her! And then you wouldn’t have ended up in a place like that,” Paimon huffed. She stamped indignantly, the sound loud enough for him to hear. Sometimes he worried about her—she had never been able to control her temper and he could just picture her failing interviews because she didn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. “Is he still down there?”
Aether glanced at the foreboding basement door in front of him. It hadn’t budged an inch. The white paint was cracked and peeling in places, revealing the brown wood underneath. In an otherwise modern house, it looked entirely out of place, like a horror scene in a field of flowers. “I think so.”
“You think so?” Paimon asked skeptically, tapping her foot.
As though to answer her question, a loud bang punctuated the air. Aether winced, wondering just what happened downstairs. “I know so.”
The only problem with this house was his mysterious third roommate, Albedo. Aether could count on one hand the number of times he’d seen the guy. Every time, the upper-year chemist had been wearing goggles, his blond hair flowing over the frames like a lion’s mane. Loud bangs and odd smells informed everyone else when Albedo was home.
Sucrose had said it was fine, but Aether wasn’t certain. Just how healthy could it be, locking yourself up in a basement with foul-smelling chemicals for hours on end? He couldn’t remember his science classes that well, but couldn’t Albedo accidentally make a poisonous gas? What if he was slowly killing them all?
And just what was he trying to do?
Once, just once, Aether had seen Albedo without his trademark lab coat. Aether had been studying and glanced out his window to find Albedo in the backyard. Paintbrush in hand, the senior had stared at a blank canvas, as though visualizing his painting. By the time Aether had scrambled down the stairs, Albedo was gone.
Part of him wondered if he could have seen Albedo’s eyes if he’d gotten down fast enough.
“This sounds sketchy,” Paimon grumbled. “I still think you should leave.”
“It’s—” Aether’s eyes widened as black smoke poured out the cracks around the door. “Fire!”
“Fire!” Paimon shouted. “Should I—”
He didn’t say anything before hanging up, shoving the phone in his pocket as he yanked open the door. Luckily, the doorknob wasn’t hot yet. Black smoke poured into the hallway. Albedo was still down there. Aether didn’t think twice before dashing down the stairs.
The smoke was even thicker downstairs. There was a small window, barely visible, and he ran to open it. As the smoke escaped, Aether pivoted on his heel. It was easier to see the small laboratory now. Vials lined the counters, various machines beeped as they ran automatically. Aether coughed in his sleeve as he searched for his roommate.
“Albedo?” he called out. There wasn’t a response. The silence unnerved him. He stepped forward. “Albedo?”
His foot bumped into something and he looked down to find his roommate lying face down.
“Albedo!” Before Aether could check him, he noticed a small fire on the counter. It burned on a pan, trapping it for the most part, but he wasn’t going to take any risks. He sprang forward, patting it with his hand instinctively before recoiling from the heat.
“Extinguisher, water…” He mumbled his eyes darted around the room before landing on the former. In two steps, he picked it up. In another, the fire was gone. Aether sighed, relieved. “Great.”
There was a soft moan. Aether looked down just as Albedo slowly opened his eyes. He’d almost forgotten. Quickly, Aether knelt next to him, helping the older man get up. “Are you okay?”
Albedo coughed, looking dazed. Lazily, he scanned the room, as if not certain of where he was. It couldn’t be good for him to be here. The air still smelled of smoke and burned plastic.
“Here, follow me.” Gently, Aether took Albedo’s arm and guided him up the stairs. Past the wooden door, with its flaking paint. Past the narrow hallway, covered in darkness. Past the patio doors, until they were outside in the cool, fresh breeze. “Take deep breaths.”
Albedo breathed in through his nose, shaking his head slightly as though waking himself up. His voice was smoother, deeper than Aether expected. “We’re outside.”
“Yeah.” Aether watched him worriedly, inspecting him for injuries. Fortunately, he appeared unscathed.
He looked at his hands, then the house. “Huh. Didn’t go as planned. I added too much phosphate.”
Aether frowned. “You started a fire. You could have killed us.”
“No, we would have been fine.” Albedo pulled off his goggles, yanking them past his golden hair. He rubbed the soot off with his shirt. “The fire wouldn’t have left the pan.”
He kept talking, but Aether couldn’t hear. Instead, he stared, transfixed by the tropical blue of Albedo’s eyes, the way his hair framed his face, softening his impassive expression. It had been hard to tell before but his roommate was hot.
Aether flushed. Maybe the fire had spread to him somehow. Clearing his throat, he pushed all irrelevant thoughts from his head and focused on the issue at hand. Their house could have burned down. This madman constantly did experiments, ones that probably could endanger them. Who knew what could happen next time? What if Aether hadn’t been around today?
It was time he stopped this nonsense. Squaring his shoulders, Aether interrupted, “That isn’t the point.”
“Then what is?” Albedo absentmindedly dusted off his clothes, creating small black clouds of soot. He glanced up at Aether and frowned. “You’re…?”
Aether stiffened, mildly offended. Sure, they hadn’t interacted much, but he’d expected Albedo to at least know who he was. “Your roommate. Aether. We’ve met.”
“Oh.” Albedo rubbed his chin, his brow pinched as he tried to remember. “Right.” He held out a hand. “Albedo.”
Somehow, Aether had a feeling Albedo didn’t remember. Or care.  That the next time they’d met, they’d have this same question all over again. Reluctantly, he took Albedo’s hand and shook it. The senior’s fingers were calloused, as though this wasn’t the first time he’d nearly burned or hurt himself for the sake of his tests. “Nice to meet you.”
“Yeah.” Albedo extracted his hand and turned around. “I’ll see you later.”
“Wait!” Aether gripped his shoulder, forcing him to stay. “Like I was saying, the point is safety. You can’t do that again if it’s unsafe.”
Albedo scoffed, crossing his arms. If before he had appeared unfocused, now he was determined. “I have safety precautions.”
“They’re not good enough.” Aether gestured at the house, then down at the basement window at the side. Black puffs of smoke still seeped into the air. “You still ended up out here! That fire still happened!”
“Oh.” Finally taking this seriously, Albedo strolled over to the window and crouched. He swatted at the smoke once, dissipating it. Peering through the window, he studied his lab before nodding. “Fair point. I’ll be more careful next time.”
Aether rubbed his ears, not sure if he’d heard right. “Next time?”
“Experiments can’t run themselves.” Albedo stood up. He slipped his goggles over his neck like a necklace. “I’ll figure something out.”
“You almost—there was a fire and you’re thinking next time?” Aether paled. He had no idea what Sucrose and Timaeus saw in this man. They had claimed he was a genius. Maybe he was, but he certainly was a danger. Maybe he was a genius at putting them in danger.
He could almost hear Paimon now, laughing at the news. Told you the house was bad news.
Gritting his teeth, he ground his heel on the grass. There was still something he could do. This wasn’t over yet. Aether squared his shoulders and asked, no, demanded, “You’ll show me the safety measures before you start.”
Albedo stared at him. His expression was impossible to read. It was like looking at a blank slate, a white sheet, a piece of granite. Part of Aether wondered what it would take to make his roommate smile. Then, finally, after the silence was unbearable, Albedo nodded. “An assistant would make things easier.”
That wasn’t the response he’d expected. Aether blinked before pointing at himself. “An assistant? Me?”
Albedo didn’t seem to hear, already lost in thought as he mused over the new development. “A second person to run experiments with…this could work out. Should I increase the quantity of trials or scope? A live test subject would also be handy.”
“A live test subject?” Aether’s jaw dropped. Just what sort of experiments was Albedo running that needed human experimentation? At this rate, it wouldn’t just be the house that got destroyed. “Wait, I didn’t even agree to this! I just wanted to check your measures, not help you.”
It was too late. His enigmatic roommate was already heading back into the house, making his way back down to the basement. Clearly, he hadn’t learned anything from the fire.
Clearly, Aether had no choice if he wanted the house in one piece. He sighed.
“The rent is cheap. The location is good. The other roommates are nice.” Aether ticked off each point on his finger, to remind himself of just why he didn’t pack up and leave. “I can’t find another place right now. It’s quiet when I study. I already paid this month’s rent.”
Paimon had been entirely right about this place.
It had been entirely too good to be true.
“She’s never going to let this go,” Aether grumbled as he headed inside.
Still, there was something to look forward to. He’d be working with Albedo. Maybe he’d get to see those bright blue eyes again. Aether couldn’t deny the small jolt that went through him at the thought.
All he had to do was survive whatever Albedo tossed at him. That couldn’t be that hard, right?
