every time i interact with the silmarillion i get weirdly excited about the fact that the authorial intent is that it's a translation of historical accounts. it's a tertiary source! none of it is first hand. it makes it so much more interesting. was the legendarium a mannish tradition? what parts of these were written by pengolodh? by rumil? what loremaster has recorded this? would there be bias in the accounting? can i trust what i'm reading, from this viewpoint, this many years after it would have been written?

what has been mythologised, what has been sanitised, what is third-hand written on rumour? it's such an interesting thing to consider.

there is something sooooo... potential... about the way that f1 drivers' accents (esp the native english speakers') all become so mish-mashed. like ollie bearman doesn't even sound british. lando's accent is notoriously confusing.... even charles sounds less french than his brothers. they're all incidentally incorporating parts of each other and their teams into themselves gradually over their whole lives until it becomes so noticeable. there is a thought here for me i just don't know what it is yet.

Fun little factoid about Sho

In the game files there's some audio that's just like. "Generic Story Voices". The same ones that I got Kaito and Towa's incantations from. Generic audios were used in campus chats before they got fully voiced I believe, but now they're not used anywhere as far as I know.

And he uses 'Aniki' for him???

My understanding is generally that 'aniki' is kind of respectful and the fact that he uses a respectful term for the brother that he hates struck me as odd when I first found the file(then again he uses 'senpai' for pretty much every student older than him so far, so maybe he's just respectful in general?? Or maybe it's more of a sarcastic thing for Hyde?)

And then we got the 'I'm counting on you Shohei' bit and I was like. O h. Either he's actually fond of/respects Hyde a lot and has no problem being obedient towards him or he just. Speaks to him respectfully out of intimidation maybe? Or habit since he speaks restfully to other people? Idk. Why does he refer to him so respectfully. . . . . . . .i wanna know. . . . .tell us what their secret dealings are zzg. . . . .based on the way he talks to him in the campus chat he doesn't respect him like that but they were also in like a main hall of the building? totally random mononoke thoughts, and.... potentially unpopular opinion? but however the two sequel mononoke movies go, what I really don't want above anything else is like, a kusuriuri backstory. or things explaining in depth how kusu (and that whole system, because I guess there was a lore dump semi-recently, but I personally don't like the gist of it so I've been ignoring it lol) and his powers work. for me, kusuriuri is such a compelling character because we know nothing about him, and yet he continues to exist, just like many enigmatic forces of nature in that world.

I wouldn't mind there being little hints or implications, but any sort of definitive backstory or lore explanation would genuinely disappoint me lol. I don't wanna know!

i think the thing to understand abt martha jones is that even after she leaves she is five seconds away from dropping everything and traveling with the doctor at any given time. bc that itch to blow everything up and damn her personal duty to hell in search of a higher call never leaves her. but martha is smart. and rational. and has spent a long fucking time needing to keep herself safe. so we got stained as a tert and some of these new effects have like a gradient colouring overlay...and some only affect apparel... soooo simplify it and make a stain/dye effect on apparel ! have an apparel set that just doesn't QUITE match your dragon ? dye it ! make it have the same slightly transparent overlay as stained where it still shows some of the tones from underneath! ! bam!! infinite new colour palettes !! and no more worrying about releasing apparel that has something to suit everyones' taste at all times.

my notes:

my overall interpretation of this song is "I'm trying to break through the friend zone (friendship barrier) so that you like me instead of thinking of me as a friend", so any vagueness in translation went in that direction

The use of "lock horns" in the official translation snippet + the HAO motifs give me the mental image of like, a hand-to-hand kung fu battle, so I leaned towards that imagery whenever there was vagueness (as opposed to like, a military campaign, for example)

deco's official english translations tend to be very liberal, so i tried to keep my translation a little more literal
