Hello guys! Missed me? This is my first time writing for Killer Peter. I figured it would be good to start all over again with something from webtoon since it’s a bit easier for me. Hope you like it, I have been obsessed with this man lately. (Please someone make a juicy request for Nathaniel, im so horny for him 😭)

As we know, he is notorious for being very possessive, and I’m not gonna lie to you, this fact was a big issue at the beginning of your relationship.

His concept of love is very incomplete since he never got to experience it before you, he never got to be loved by anyone, and he never got to love anyone either.

So much so that it took him a looong time to decipher what it was that he felt whenever he thought of you.

He also believed that he was too good to be interested in some girl, he was too set on his goals as a killer to even think about it. His focus was to become a legend, the strongest man to ever live, not to have any sort of distraction.

But one thing was for sure, he could not stand the thought of you with someone else, much less if that someone was another man.

The thing is, he has no experience with dating. He has never had an actual partner. Yes, he’s had a couple of casual encounters with women before, but never started a relationship with any of them, so he still has a lot to learn.

John couldn’t believe it when he realized that, for the first time ever, he longed for company… but not just any sort of company, he longed for you.

He quickly started loving the sound of your voice, your sweet smell, the ring of your laughter, the shape of your silhouette, the softness of your hair and even the pace of your steps, he had never felt anything like it.

He wanted you. He wanted you like he had never wanted anything else before. He needed to have you.

Luckily for him, you fell in love the moment you saw him, so he didn’t have to do much. You didn’t know why, but you could tell he wasn’t as cold as he wanted you to believe.

Still, as I mentioned, he is of a very possessive nature. It is thanks to you that he has slowly learnt how to go about it, he doesn’t want to ruin things with you, but at the same time, this is how he’s always been.

It’s hard, but not impossible. Though he is definitely the most jealous man in the world.

John believes every man wants you. If he feels their heart beat too quickly around you, he’s ready to kill. They can’t even look at you, every little thing upsets him to no end.

He’ll get between you and any man who approaches you, even if it’s just a friend.

But again, his working on that.

Still, he wants me to make something very clear, though. He does love you very much. It’s not just his need to have you that makes him orbit around you, no. He genuinely is in love. He loves everything about you.

He hates knowing that if he could see you, maybe he would finally understand the meaning the word pretty holds, he hates that he’ll never know. He hates that others have the privilege to know you in a way he never will.

And although in many ways his selfishness is more noticeable since he met you, he has ironically become more selfless.

For you, he would do something he could never have thought of doing for anyone else.

He would die.

He would die for you and that disgusts him. For the first time ever, he feels weak. He has something he could never recover from if he ever lost it; something that would be the end of him if anything happened, and no amount of pride could save him from that.

He takes care of you like he has never taken care of anything or anyone else before, and the truth is, his priorities have changed. He’ll never admit it, but he knows deep down.

His ambition is too great, he still cares about holding his reputation as the top assassin, but there’s this voice within him that wants… something more.

He wants what he never had, he wants love, he wants happiness, a family…

All this feelings are too new for him, so those things are very far away still, but he knows he’ll just grow to want them more and more over the years.

But let’s leave the future in the future, right now things aren’t bad either.

You have a partner who protects you like no other person in the world could, you feel safe and you understand him and his way of showing affection.

You might not see him everyday because of his… job. But whenever you do it is truly great.

He wakes up early to train, so he’s always waiting for you with a cup of coffee. The coffee sucks, but you won’t ever tell him. He can’t cook at all, but enjoys watching you and tries to help.

It’s hard for him to be romantic, and he doesn’t say “I love you” that often, but when he does, you know he means it.

His love language is touching you. Your hair, your face, your hands, and he loooves it when bedtime comes and he can rest his head on your chest and listen to your heartbeat.

He also really enjoys it when you read to him, the sound of your voice is pure bliss.

When he’s out in a mission, he’ll take a piece of clothing from you that has your scent just to feel you close.

Despite being very proud of you being his, you are a secret to the world. He’s just very scared of anyone hurting you to get back at him.

Especially Raphael. If there’s one person in the world who can never know you exist, that’s him.

Although he’ll never tell you, he loves it when you get too corny, you being all over him is his favorite thing.

His favorite kind of date is just both of you and a bottle of wine, he loooves wine and is always nice to have a drink with him.

It’s hard for him to get drunk, but if you get to that point, he may say things he doesn’t say often.

He can hurt you when you both have an argument, his words are sharper than a knife sometimes, his pride will make him say things he always regrets, however he has learnt to apologize, and he truly is working on that too, he hates making you cry.

John is terrified of the idea of you leaving him for someone else. He knows he doesn’t deserve you, he knows being with someone like him is anything but easy, so he’s very paranoid sometimes.

He loves the idea of knowing that there’s someone waiting for him at home, someone he must return to every day.

This man is just so overwhelmed from having you in his life and caring so intensely for someone else that he sometimes can’t wrap his head around how he ended up like this.

You belong to him, of course, but rest assured, he belongs to you, too.

WHC2 SPOILIERS AHEAD!

guys guys guys, season 2 has got to be the most amazing and unexpected thing bc omds. no because i have so much to say like wtf. i was so emotional the whole time throughout watching this season because why is every episode making me tear up?!?! and do NOT get me started on when i saw suho AWAKE on MY SCREEN. the way i screamed so fucking loud and cried. infact i'm still currrently crying about it while typing this😖😖 no but why do we get like 10 seconds of screentime of suho and sieun??? LIKE WHERE WAS THE EMOTIONS?? NOT EVEN A HUG??? I WAS HERE CRYING MY ASS OFF. anyway enough about suho. lets focus on the main characters of this season like ben, eugene and alex. the friendship between ben and sieun has honestly got to the cutest bc omg?? the way they shared the same feeling about their past is just everything, because the way they understood and connected with eachother throughout the season?!?!? icl i'm also so obsessed with alex rn, he's so ARGH. lee min jae ATE his role up because ouuuuf he's fine shyttttt. don't get me started on eugene. everytime he'd appear on my screen all i would say is "aweeee" BECAUSE THATS LEGIT HIM?? his face card is the most cutest and squishable🥹 i hated every time he got bullied and bashed because how could you do anything to that poor baby?!?!? oh and donald na, the man that you are. he was so tea throughout this season because face card was not decliningggggg. bae na ra did an amazing job as donald na. honestly they made everyone so fine in this show, but what can i say

the fight scenes were the BEST. they were so interesting and intense to watch, i actually enjoyed the fighting scenes sm. although i was so disappointed everytime sieun would get bashed because ho you have more potential?!?! everytime sieun was fighting all i kept screaming was "WHERE IS YOUR PEN" because bro where was it when he needed it..and he got nerfed but the enemies were just too skilled💔💔 the fight between donald na and sieun tho was just so good because they just would NOT give up no matter what. same with wolf keum, even though he was a badass, he also lowk pissed me off at the same time. but throughout watching season 2, i noticed so much change in sieun. like where are his airpods?? and why has he not studied at least once through all 8 episodes. not ONE time did i see him study for school. my poor baby was going through it while sleeping in class just like suho:(((( i'm so grateful for eugene being there for sieun, making sure he gets enough sleep and eats well. oh how i was crying about it aswell. also the flashbacks of beom seok and sieun about his new friends??!? ben better get the love and attention he deserves, because before s2 even dropped, he was getting sm hate for what?!?! i haven't finished the webtoon yet, but ben and sieuns friendship say sm more than suho in the webtoon so idk why they hating. ANYWAYS i am so happy i experienced this amazing cinematic masterpiece of a show omg the way i'm speechless bc what. i now expect my whole entire feed to be about whc2. i absoloutely love this show sm since 2022, i've been so attached, so watching a whole new season just made me even more emotional🥹🥹🥹🥹

buttttt if i have to shut down my fangirl mode for a while, i think i'll rate it like this (im'ma be a bit detailed cause i'm excited af bear with me)

Overall story, including the manhwa: 7/10

don't get me wrong, there is NEVER a boring moment in SL both in the anime and in the manhwa. i finished the manhwa, all 200 chapters of it, in 2 days and i've re-read it 5 times by now. every fight is exciting. and it's just so hyped like if you wanna just have fun and get your daily serotonin boost, this is the show for you (the cliffhangers are CRAZY tho you might wanna punch your screen each time)

i'm giving it 7/10 only because the manhwa isn't really doing a good job in giving the side characters a chance to shine, and the last fight (the most important, and the hardest battle for jinwoo) was so rushed that it felt anticlimactic to me. i know this is because the author for the webtoon was terribly sick at the time (and he passed away not long after he finished the manhwa may he rest in peace) so i'm not going to be super critical about it. i do believe the anime would improve on this though because they said they're going to make 5 seasons and adding A LOT of anime only scenes, so if they can do that, and they can make the side characters stand out more, and solve all the remaining plotholes, i'll give it 9/10. people are saying that SL's story is mid but only because the real story hasn't started yet in the anime. the world building in Solo Leveling is actually crazy (especially in the sequel Solo Leveling: Ragnarok) and the lore is interesting to me with all the Gods and the Monarchs. it just needs to be more polished.

Art (manhwa): 1000000/10

This is, by far, to this day, the best manhwa I've ever read when it comes to the artstyle bro like i've said it soooo many times but every panel is wallpaper worthy like look at this shit

the way i got CHILLLSSSSS when reading it man... so many epic scenes, the fight scenes, the way jinwoo carried himself during his battles and the AURA like i've never seen someone as badass and as effortlessly sexy as jinwoo in a fight idk how to explain it he's just UGH

Animation: 9.5/10

A-1 Pictures is doing soooooo well animating the fight scene, especially during jinwoo vs kargalgan fight. the last episode with jinwoo vs goto was not so good BUT the rest of the fights are just god-tier. if you like action scenes, you NEED to watch this. (i can't wait for jeju island raid ohmygod just thinking about jinwoo smirking during the fight got me tweaking)

Music: 8.5/10

the soundtrack is done by the god-tier composer hiroyuki sawano so it's guaranteed to be epic. now, to be fair, it's not as good as 86 or AOT's soundtrack but some of the tracks (like Dark Aria and Shadowborn) are pure banger, and the sad music that played during jinwoo's crying scene was SO beautiful it had me crying fr

I’ve obviously taken cues from the PJ films for the ending, haha.  In the original book, Bilbo negotiates with the Company using business language and the Company gives Bilbo a letter written in legalese. The films replace this with a gag where the dwarves hand Bilbo an overly long contract. It’s one of the adaptational changes I think worked.

I’ve also altered the Quest; while it’s not solely about the Arkenstone– they certainly want to get other treasures, if they can!-- the dwarves have a clearer idea of what their Plan A is when they get to the Mountain. In the book, they’ve got more of a “we’ll figure it out when we get there’ attitude, and that works with the tone Tolkien was going for. I’m trying to strike a balance between making the dwarves a bit more serious/reasonable, but still keeping them very silly.

Finally, this is the last “normal chapter” of the Shire arc of the comic! Every chapter after this one will be part of the “finale,” and will be twice as long. I am very excited for you guys to see the next ones! Thank you for readi

I never meant to fall into this fandom, but seeing these really stunning pieces of characters in trench coats and got supremely curious. It took approximately two days to fall ass over teakettle into OMNISCIENT READER'S VIEWPOINT hell, because it has absolutely fascinating characters, interesting worldbuilding, a beautifully drawn webtoon, thoughtful plot elements on the nature of stories and the relationship with the audience and--most importantly--it has the kind of character dynamics you immediately want fic. I'm barely past chapter 40 and I was already spoiling myself for the overarching plot because I desperately needed post-canon fic that offered resolution, because everything was already so deliciously intense that I couldn't stand it! So, here I am, having a bunch of knock-out fic to go with the absolute god-tier art that's in the fandom and desperately trying to drag more of you into this with me because it's so good and I think you'd like it and I don't want to be throwing up feelings everywhere and not have you all understand how much these characters mean to me (especially the main character, he is such a skrunkly little asshole whomst I would die for!!!!) even after just forty chapters! Lore Olympus will be officially ending in 2024.

While this is vague both in Rachel's responses (as always) and the actual specific timeline, considering this is the final 'arc' and most of Rachel's arcs rarely go any longer than 12-15 episodes, I have the sneaking suspicion she's going to try to wrap this up by March/April. That's just a prediction, mind you, it could just as well go on throughout the entire year of 2024.

That said, it's wild to see it finally confirmed, like a weight has finally been lifted of our shoulders. Many of us have been speculating on it for a while now that LO would undoubtedly get dragged out as it's Webtoon's golden goose and clearly Rachel's lifeline to the industry.

Lore Olympus has been a part of my life since 2019, and an even larger part of it in the last year and a half when I joined the critical community. It's going to be weird to live in a world where LO just doesn't update.

Of course, as mentioned in the article, there's still the matter of the physical books which are still FAR behind the webtoon version, and the TV show which they swear is still happening (but we all know it's not happening lmao).

So I don't think this will be the end of WT milking it for all its worth, but I am interested to see what happens to WT when they don't have their golden goose on a leash and chain anymore. They've sunk so much money and priority ad space into LO that even other Originals creators can't stand the comic due to how much its undercut their own opportunities. I'm hoping this will be a wake-up call to WT to give more attention to their series that are struggling and deserve to be seen, rather than focus all of their attention into one series that's barely got a pulse to speak of.

Of course, I'm sure people are wondering, "What about the fandom communities? What about antiLO/ULO?"

Listen, this isn't the first fandom I've taken part in, though it's certainly the one I've been the most directly active in with the essays I write and the stuff I do through Rekindled.

But if being in fandoms has taught me anything, it's that it doesn't matter how long a series has been gone. If there are people who still love it - or love to hate it - taking part in discussion, that discussion will continue to thrive. A series existing in hindsight is just as much a reason for participation as an active series existing in the present day. If anything, a series falling into the realm of 'hindsight' can give us the room we need to sit and reflect on what the series actually did, and what we were left with in the end. It's never stopped the folks who still talk about long-ago-completed series like The Office, House M.D., and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

So if you're new to the LO critical community, or asking yourself if it's still going to be "worth it" to take part in the fandom after LO is done - it's as worth it as you make it. There will always be something worth discussing in this fandom if we're wanting to discuss it.

As for me, well... I'm just getting started.

How Japanese Mythology Supports Aqua's Logic(and his final decision)

-The lore behind Amaterasu & Sarutahiko-

In short, Ruby and Hikaru aren't entities that could coexist and Ruby's been sent to replace her father. That's what's really been going on.

Earlier, I'd written another post on Ame-no-Uzume and Sarutahiko's relationship and how it was incorporated/interpreted in two different media (Pheonix: Dawn and Oshi no Ko)

I'm very serious and pretty sure about my analyses on this one, it DOES explain a lot of things and helps you understand some of the really weird stuff that leaves you confused regarding this manga.

I mean, it's the only way to explain the weird things that'd been happening around Kamiki for one thing. We have a Japanese god of light that directs the future who grants wishes along with his wife? and we even have his shrine appear in the series and that god is said to have drowned & fallen in love with his wife at first sight who's the god of entertainment, they wed on the spot and had children together but aren't married officially, and he guided Amaterasu's grandchild.

So what else is that guy even supposed to be??? You have to look at the myths with this one!

and the interesting thing is,

If you look at the myths, you can actually understand why Aqua decided to get rid of his dad (go as far as killing him) for Ruby's future.

Because that's what happened in the myths!!

It's just fun to see and understand the story in a different light... even if this wasn't exactly what the author themselves were going for- but this story shares TOO much in common with those myths. There is no way it isn't-

I feel this may be some food for thought.

If you can understand something better, then you can form better opinions and judgments on said subject. And I'd been struggling so much about this work... it doesn't mean I like the ending (it was something I did not like, it was very cruel on the characters, and I don't express my discomfort about a piece of work so much but I did that a lot with this one) but if you look at it this way, at least the author was being true to the myths; and you can give this work pretty high points on that and feel less frustrated about how everything was so crazy in the end.

With that being said, let's jump in.

In this manga, there are quite a few characters who correspond to figures in mythology.

Amaterasu → Ruby

Susanoo → Aqua

Ame-no-Uzume → Ai

Sarutahiko → Kamiki

I’m fairly certain about these parallels(and I won’t go into detail on why, since I’ve written about it extensively before).

Now… this manga seems to contain a lot of homages to the Tenson Kōrin myth (the descent of the heavenly grandchild). The Aratate Shrine that appears in the story is also the place where, according to the myth, Ame-no-Uzume met Sarutahiko, the two got married, and they built a home together.

As for that part of the myth, based on cross-referencing academic papers and other sources, it appears to have been a narrative device used to justify replacing indigenous beliefs with the ruling power’s religious system.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts as well, but Sarutahiko was originally a native solar deity and a supreme god of sorts. However, when the Amaterasu-worshipping faction unified the region, they diminished his status and influence.

What’s particularly interesting is that they rationalized this transition through Ame-no-Uzume.

I looked into it, and it turns out that even Ame-no-Uzume herself isn’t purely a native Japanese deity—rather, she’s thought to be a modified version of a Hindu goddess that was introduced later. Her origins trace back to Ushas, the goddess of dawn, who also appears in the Webtoon Kubera. Since she’s a dawn goddess, her hair color here is depicted as a beautiful, dawn-like hue.

Doesn’t Ai’s hair color give off a similar vibe? :) In some color illustrations of Ai, her hair appears as a mix of navy, pink, and purple tones, evoking a night-to-dawn transition. She’s also referred to as the reincarnation of the morning star, and her eyes contain stars.

Anyway, moving on—

Ame-no-Uzume, this goddess, seduces Sarutahiko, who was a local earth-light deity (originally a solar god), and lures him into yielding his influence to Ninigi, the descendant of Amaterasu.

And since he falls for her, he agrees. The two get married, settle down in the region (at what is now Aratate Shrine), and live well together. But then, out of nowhere, Sarutahiko is said to have drowned while out fishing.

I actually checked the Kojiki in its original English translation, and the myth continues straight into that incident; it was quite abrupt.

There are also accounts that say they had children together (I’ve come across this often—some families even claim descent from them). There are shrines dedicated to both of them, and during festivals, people wear masks representing the two deities, suggesting they were honored together. So it’s unclear whether Sarutahiko truly "died" or if the story just implies a power shift.

In some tourist guides, I even read that under Amaterasu, the two deities act as agents maintaining the world’s balance between yin and yang.

At any rate, in mythology, when a god steps down and then “dies”, it typically symbolizes the decline of the faction that worshiped them and the rise of a new ruling power—something that’s well-documented in Wikipedia articles and academic papers.

And of course, this isn’t exclusive to Japanese mythology.

In ancient times, religious beliefs were often tied to governance, and I remember reading a book about an Egyptian king who established Horus as the supreme deity to use in a similar manner.

And from what I recall, even in a Korean mythology book for children, the Dangun myth was explained this way.

The story of the bear and the tiger was presented as an allegory for the struggle between two tribes: the bear tribe and the tiger tribe. The book stated that the myth reflected how the bear tribe drove out the tiger tribe.

So, in summary, the relationship between Amaterasu and Sarutahiko follows the same pattern.

Looking back at the manga’s ending, I think this interpretation holds up.

Toward the climax, the conflict between Kamiki and Ruby was highlighted, wasn’t it? Aqua even said, “You tried to kill Ruby, didn’t you?” And Kamiki’s approach toward Ruby felt somewhat ominous.

Sarutahiko = Kamiki is an undeniable parallel. After thoroughly analyzing the manga, I can’t see it any other way. I probably started talking about this around July… I’ve been saying this for ages...

And Ruby is obviously Amaterasu.

For Ruby to shine, the former sun god—Kamiki—must disappear. Just as Aqua said.

The two of them likely couldn’t coexist.

Once Amaterasu emerges, Sarutahiko must drown. He has to step aside.

But in this case, they’re biologically father and daughter… So what kind of relationship could they have had? Could they have gotten along better somehow?

Looking at the story, Ruby was a being born with a mission, and Aqua’s role was to protect her until she could shine safely. His duty was essentially to assist her. That means Kamiki, who posed an obstacle, had to be removed.

Why did Amaterasu—Ruby—have to be born in the first place? Likely because Kamiki, in his current state, could no longer fulfill the role of the sun god. That’s how I interpret it.

Ruby was chosen before Ai’s death. That means Aqua’s original mission couldn’t have been to kill the one who he "thought" had harmed Ai—Back then, Ai was still alive and well.

And if Kamiki really was searching for individuals who could surpass Ai, that must have been after Ai’s death.

While Ai was alive, he had no reason to do that. But once she died, circumstances changed, and suddenly, there comes forth a reasoning for him to have to disappear—for Ruby’s future, for he eventually becomes a threat towards Ruby on that same logic. This would not have happened if Ai never passed, and that isn't what Kamiki ever wanted, either. He always wanted her to live?? He didn't feel alive after she was gone??

Was this Tsukuyomi's doing, or what? She's the one that has to do with "fate".

The people who died around Kamiki before this didn’t seem to have the star eyes, but perhaps his future-altering/guiding abilities became twisted, causing constant problems. Did Ai die as a result of that? Personally, I'm guessing that's what's really happened but;

Anyway, Aqua’s mission being related to Ruby rather than Ai was logical and inevitable from a timeline perspective.

But Ai wanted to help Kamiki, saying he had lost his way—together with their children?

That’s because Ai was meant to be his godly spouse. But… it seems like the other gods gave up on Kamiki;;

Or maybe they quickly tried to sort things out by assigning new roles to Ai’s children and those around her?

Sarutahiko is in fact, described as a dual-natured god—one who can be either truly good or turn into a complete monster, swinging between extremes.

But no matter what, I don’t think he would have harmed his wife… On the contrary, he seemed to be deeply devoted to her. It could even be said that he gave everything up for her.

If you look at the myths, this god, he surrenders his position, stepped aside, and even “died" to be with his wife. That makes a good parallel with what Kamiki does in this story as well.

Since the mythology was structured in a way where he could never defeat Amaterasu, that was the natural conclusion. But at least he gained a beautiful wife he fell for at first sight—so in a way, things worked out, lol.

If he were to truly fall into darkness, it'd be because of his wife's death. What else could it be?

Kamiki’s goal was always to do something for Ai—that much is certain.

Reading the myth again, Fatal and Mephisto’s lyrics hit differently. They feel exactly like the thoughts of someone who lost the person they cherished most. Those songs are loaded with longing and they have these weird stuff about stars and wishes and sacrifices and- it's not what a normal human being would sing, that's why I thought it'd have to do with the idea of gods, but the one who sings it seems to be Hikaru,

And Ame-no-Uzume’s personality is just like Ai’s.

Their stories flow seamlessly into Ai and Kamiki’s!!

I think that's what this story is saying!

The topic drifted a bit, but while Kamiki and Ruby did meet as father and daughter... I feel like, by fate, their relationship was one where if one existed, the other had to die or disappear. The conclusion I reached is that Ruby was sent as an upgraded replacement of Kamiki.

In the story, Ruby is ultimately depicted as an enhanced version of Ai (whether that depiction is realistic or not), but in truth, as a solar deity, she is actually more closely connected to her father than her mother. She is even someone who could potentially replace him.

I think I’ve analyzed something similar before.

Ruby is a "one-shot, two-kills" existence. She is a divine being that can replace both parents—both gods of the entertainment industry—through her alone. Ai is important, of course, but at the core, Ruby is someone who can fundamentally replace Kamiki.

She has the role of a goddess of entertainment/an idol and the role of a solar deity who emits light. Because of this, she is such an important figure, and that’s why Aqua was used under the pretense of protecting her. I remember feeling so cold when Tsukuyomi cried—like, weren’t the gods the ones who used Aqua as a chess piece? They took a soul, fully exploited it, killed it twice, and now they’re crying? His father told Aqua to go back and live. I don’t think that was hypocrisy—I genuinely believe he meant it.

But Aqua’s mission was what it was, so he gave up on that path. There’s no other reason for him to have done so.

I mean, couldn't they have done something about Kamiki? Why were the gods unable to intervene with him? Isn’t everything that happened because they gave up on him? If there’s a god causing problems, shouldn’t they go directly to that god and stop them? Why instead did they exploit an innocent soul, force a mission onto him, make him suffer, and then let him die? It’s a complete disaster. What are the gods even doing in this story? It seems like they’re doing a lot, but in reality, they achieve nothing.

And Kamiki… he’s just a mad god who wants to see his wife again, isn’t he? He must have had some powerful force within him, but what did they do while he was losing his mind? Just stood by and watched?

If gods of other domains can’t interfere in the entertainment industry, then maybe that’s why they threw the responsibility onto their children, like, "Your parents made a mess—go clean it up." But still, was Kamiki really beyond salvation from the start? When Ai and Kamiki were struggling to live, what were the gods doing? Just watching like, "Oh, they went down to become humans and caused trouble. That’s on them."

In the end, though, all of this thinking might be meaningless… Only the authors truly know, and maybe they didn’t even think that deeply about it.

To summarize, looking at the dynamic between Ruby and Kamiki through the lens of gods shifting positions in mythology is quite interesting. What really frustrates me is that around July or August, I had already suspected Kamiki might be related to Sarutahiko…

But I completely failed to catch the part about that god drowning until Kamiki actually fell into the water. If I had realized that earlier, I might have figured out how this manga—or at least this character—was going to end. I could have predicted it. Then I wouldn’t have been so shocked when the story unfolded. Even so, I probably wouldn’t have predicted Aqua dying, but… why did Aqua have to die? Even now, I still think that ending was utterly foolish and miserable—for both of them.

Not that I ever imagined Kamiki ending up in prison, either. I could never quite picture that. But I did think he would die. I mean, what was left for him in life? The only time he was ever happy was the brief period he lived with Ai.

And for someone with a life like that, his personality was incredibly good. How was he able to act the way he did despite everything? I don’t think he would have become this way if Ai had been alive. That’s just my perspective, I could be wrong. But if he had lived with Ai… I don’t think he would have been evil at all. He looked happy. Even when he was being mistreated, he never showed resentment toward others. He still actually never does. He's in grief and he's always so condescending about himself, but he can't stop because he's desperate to see Ai again, that's what it is.

That’s why it bothers me so much. Is this really right? Should things have ended this way?

And when I wonder what message the author is trying to convey with this ending, my thoughts keep going back to what I mentioned earlier—the story of the entertainment gods.

The conclusion of this manga, as presented in the final chapter, feels like something that could have worked if the stakes were much lower. If it had been just about Ruby temporarily losing her dream due to a personal setback—like breaking her leg—and then overcoming it, that would have made for a touching ending.

But people died. The weight of the themes and events in this manga is incredibly heavy, yet the story just brushes over it and tries to wrap things up like it's nothing? That’s why it’s so baffling.

If that’s all the story wanted to do, it could have just focused on Ruby’s clumsy yet determined idol journey—overcoming conflicts with friends, personal struggles, and the pain of connecting with fans while still pushing forward. That kind of ending would have been heartwarming.

But her twin brother just died in a double suicide with their biological father (Actually, no, he plain murdered his dad!). Their mother died. This isn’t something that can be handled so blunt. If a story is going to tackle such themes, it needs to handle them with more care and responsibility.

The last few paragraphs came from a conversation I had with a friend, and they’re really on point. The final chapter’s message isn’t entirely meaningless, but it felt like the story was just abandoned halfway through.

I can somewhat understand why the author did this and what they were thinking when they wrote it, which honestly just makes it more frustrating.

I can’t, even as a formality, say that this was well done, and that’s what’s so disappointing. Because I know it could have been done better. The author isn’t incapable—they clearly have the ability. This series became incredibly popular, the characters were crafted so well—that’s real talent. So many people loved and supported this story. I’ve even thought that I’d like to write something that resonates with readers in the same way.

To some extent, making a story digestible and acceptable to the audience is a form of consideration for them. This work failed to do so in a lot of ways. Of course, an author should be able to write freely, however they want.

But the themes and materials they chose were far too intense and serious for the conclusion they ultimately gave. That’s what I wish they had taken responsibility for. Because watching it all unfold was genuinely painful. It was incredibly upsetting.

It does follow the myths really well though... so if you look at things from that particular perspective, you could sort of see why they made this choice as a story.

Makes you go, 'oh... so it was this!' and I think that does matter a little for me. Looking at myths and finding connections's been pretty fun too. Hope this makes a enjoyable read for someone else too~

(This isn’t a reader/canon kind of post, but there is some oc x canon sprinkled in here so look out)

It took him forever to figure out his sexuality due to him harboring some intertialized homophobia (he read too many Webtoon romance comics of infantilized queers and it grossed him out of the idea. Someone show this man Castle Swimmer it’s a good one fr). Because of this, he actually went through countless relationships with a bunch of girls that he never got attached to, and all whom were actually the ones to ask him out instead of him asking them out. Even the girls that weren’t insufferable were difficult for him to find attraction to, and that left him confused and even frustrated for the longest time. The only one time he had ever been genuinely flustered was when he was hit on by a dude… Rider certainly didn’t know how to take it and it left him spinning in his own head for days in confusion, endearment, and embarrassment. He even started to label himself as aroace for a while because he was convinced that if he was never able to find any girl or woman attractive, then he wouldn’t find anyone attractive. It wasn’t until he started hanging around with the S4 did he start to peak out of the closet a little more. By the time he had gotten closer to Goggles, he was cowering in the closet with the door off it’s hinges.

The last girlfriend he’d ever have actually ended up cheating on him with someone else, but he was surprisingly more happy than anything because he thought that girl was ANNOYING. Made fun of and talked bad about everything, was too much of a try hard in turf and ranked battles (not to mention a sore loser), and she did NOT get along with his mother or sister. When he caught her cheating he was like “welp, bye bitch!” Clicking his heels like skiddly doo hehe. He finally had a pretty damn good excuse to drop her ass like the ball on new years. It’s honestly a mystery as to why he didn’t do it sooner

Now more onto how he would be in a relationship; I think his love language is more so spending quality time, as spending time with his lover gives him some comfort. You could say his love language is also gift giving, except he just offers to pay for everything out of his own pocket. He’ll be damned to pay for anything out of his momma’s account, knowing she works hard for him and his other two siblings. Rider does know to discipline himself with his money, but let him spoil you tonight he just wants to spoil ya✨

He gets as red as a beetroot at the mere thought of hand holding or public display of affection it’s honestly so funny. He gets more mellow about it the longer the relationship he’s in, as long as it’s with a guy of course, and before you know it he’s just hugging his lover in the middle of town like there’s no tomorrow to look forward to. If you’re the one initiating, then he’ll indulge in it for as long as he can. Sometimes, if he’s getting all the comforting attention like chin scratches and cuddles, he’ll fall asleep

He’s got big hands, big and warm. He’s honestly so warm that he’ll think anyone else is cold as shit and take it upon himself to warm their hands in his

If Rider had to give his lover a surprise gift while not knowing what they’d like for Christmas, you can bet he’d get them some kind of weapon or enhancer from Ammo Knights (where he works) because it’s one of his special interests and you can never really go wrong with stuff like that. If his lover means everything to him, then he just might build them something himself from scratch

He’s typically the big spoon, but he really doesn’t mind getting little spooned every so often (more like very often because he secretly likes it)

Sometimes he can be a little too blunt, even in situations when he shouldn’t be. Sometimes he just fails to read the room completely, and believes that being honest is very important so he’ll sometimes speak his mind when his input is asked, so be warned that he may end up saying something you don’t intend to hear

Best spot to date? Wherever, as long as it’s nice, calm, and quiet, like a restaurant will do (something more casual). He also likes taking walks near the Oceanfront. Wahoo world? It’s grown on him…

Wants to be the big spoon but he’s almost always the little spoon because he teeny. He does big spoon sometimes. If you ask what he is, he’ll say he’s a knife, but we all know the real answer

He often believes that he’s not attractive because no one ever goes out of their way to ask him out much—save for that one fellow who tried their luck with him only for him to turn them down to “focus on his team and league status”—but the real reason people don’t often ask him out is because they’re too intimidated by him… Also because everyone else knows that he’s a little too out of everyone’s league

He’s definitely shy when he first gets into a relationship and tries to act as formal as he can, putting on a total gentlemen persona the entire time he spends with his SO, like opening doors for them, giving them his coat during chilly weather, paying for the bill. All of that is due to the fact that he’s never had any real experience with any before and he was taught since adolescence that there wasn’t much to love about him (fuck his grand dad he racist and STINKY). He never stops being an absolute gentlemen, but once he gets comfortable in the relationship he’s bout to get SILLY (AUTISM FR). He’ll gush about his favorite things like his Squidnet manual, battle tactics, and FOOD, and boy is this boy affectionate.

Yeah, he will bake for you, cook for you, he’ll become your house wife before marriage if he thinks you need one (he’s a little weird but he’s got the spirit I guess). Also, you can’t go wrong with his cooking and baking. If you’re wondering what to get him for the holidays or his birthday, there’s always a new kitchen pan or handsome apron he’d like. Either that, or get him a knife, and I’m not talking about the kitchen utensil kind. Just make sure he uses it wisely…

He’s very affectionate, no shame in it either. Hell, he will probably go out of his way to show it in public because he’s that much of a proud bastard of his pookie. He loves giving ear scritches, kisses, cuddles (and with his coat? Ooooh comfy!) and will absolutely get so excited if his lovers do the same with him. Please give him Huggies he will jump for joy. If Army’s in the extra happy mood, he might just pick his lover up and swing them around him his arms and dance circles. He is a very strong boy

He’s not too experienced in dancing, but he tries to anyway. He likes to try more formal dancing, like waltz, ballroom dance, or just some nice casual slow dancing. Sometime he’ll even initiate slow dance with his lover regardless if there’s music or not, because he finds comfort in the activity.

He’s also affectionate in the sense that he will groom his lover(s)—NOT IN THE ILLEGAL SENSE!!! He’s not attracted to children he’s no creep (he’s also killed a pedo before. I know it because he told me 😋). It’s in the sense that he pampers them kinda. He straightens out their clothes if they’re ruffled, clean the food off of their face with a napkin or the lick of his finger, adjust of brush their hair if it’s unkept, he cleans the crud from under their nails, and he’ll even give them a bath if he thinks they too stinky. Scrub scrub scrubby dub dub. That’s due to the fact that he’s half octoling and it’s in their nature to care for their loved ones that way.

Army will need a lot of reassurance and patience from a significant other in a relationship. Due to all the of issues he faced growing up, screwing up his mental health and self esteem, he needs a lot of encouragement to boost his confidence, as well as gentle patience and comfort for when he comes up with his mental breakdowns or panic attacks, which can be frequent depending on the mood or circumstances. He’s really apologetic about them too, but he can’t help it.

He may also have his moment where he’ll get angry and easily irritated with things, but he does his best to level his anger around his SO… Unless someone gets a little too disrespectful towards them, and then he’s going in for their throat.

He plays the trumpet pretty nicely, and he’ll play for his significant other if he chooses to—which he choose to do so often. He’s not very shy about it the more he plays, and it can be rather soothing to listen to. He does get all bashful when he’s complimented on it.

He’s very fancy with much of what he does, so anything he’d do for his lover would be very special, formal, and nice. Like if he’s wrapping a present and the wrapping tears even just an inch, he’s starting over, no matter how long it takes. Nothing but the best for his sweet heart

He is also not afraid to get hard on his SO if he has to, not in a mean way, but in a sort of tough love kind of way. If he’s deep enough in a relationship, he’ll probably lecture you a lot like if you forget your scarf, or if you nearly set the kitchen on fire from cooking something, or being too stinky so he’s gotta wash you himself. Best and most favorite spots to date would have to be vintage style places like a farmers market, thrift shopping, bakery, vintage cafe/restaurant, aquarium or a museum. Old country style stuff brings back some nostalgia from growing up on a teeny farm near a small town with his parents before moving to the ranch with his grand dad. A small drive on some rural roads or late at night in the suburbs or urban areas is nice. Take him somewhere to dance, too!

Worst places to date? Please no concerts, no disgusting 1 star buffets or eateries, or anywhere that’s filled with rude people or assholes in general. He’d rather spend a date napping at home than going out to any places like that!

Aloha

Such a damn romantic. Into everyone, trying his luck with everyone, he’s not even sure he knows his type even… if only he could keep a relationship for more than a week, or month and a half at most. Goes through bitches, bastards and non binary disasters like they’re underpants

Although, he does have to admit that he kind of does have a type for the shy and soft ones. He’s oddly enamored by their soft demeanors, or if they’re shy on the outside and spunky on the inside—he wants to be the kind of person to bring out that special trait in them to show the world. Must be why he likes Beach (Osana) so much…

He’s a total show off and he brags about everything. One time he was supposed to pick up Army from the airport with his moped but he was nearly an hour late because he couldn’t stop trying to rizz up this random girl with all of his stories of how he got that giant scar from surfing near a coral lagoon or how he got into a fight in middle school and shit

He may be a major flirt, but he takes it fine when he’s turned down, or sometimes he’s actually into those who are hard to get. Although, he really doesn’t always take it well when he’s being flirted to, and it’s guaranteed that he’ll melt into a puddle if you come across him and compliment him in a flirty manner. He also gets shy and bashful when he develops a major crush on someone, and he suddenly forgets how to flirt. It’s hilarious when it happens and the his team go to hell and back to make fun of him for it

He���s very physically and verbally affectionate with his lovers, no matter where they are. He’s the kind of person to flaunt his pookie to the world because he finds them to be so special and the world is gonna KNOW IT. Sometimes it can get smothering, but if he’s asked to tone it down then he’ll tone it down a smidge…

He’s also a little too… suggestive sometimes. It does depend on the person he’s dating, but he can get a little handsy sometimes, and maybe sneak a few dirty words in his lovers ear. He loves to make them blush 🤭

He can be so soft and gentle with his affections though. Soft hugs, caressing, kisses all over… even if it’s just for show sometimes, it can be really genuine at times and he loves being a sweet softie.

Works out for the sake of catching some attention (and gender affirmation because he trans man 🏳️‍⚧️) and also because he know he looks good. It’s also healthy in general anyway, so, why not?

Besides public display of affection, his second biggest love language is gift giving. He’s got quite a bit of money on him, and he especially loves to surprise his lovers with things he knows they like (he finds ways to get to know what they like in a short span of time)

He likes taking his dates out on late night moped rides through the city, with some nice music playing off of Bluetooth. Maybe after or before dinner? Who knows

His other favorite dating spots are shopping maaaalls. He’d take his dates out with his team or the rest of the S4, get them all acquainted with. He likes getting his lovers to become friends with his friends. He also loves clubs to dance to, parties at his place, tropical bars, and there’s also those drive in places where they serve you at the window!

Country club dates are off limits. Absolutely not. He ain’t spending no time around them blasted republicanoos (joke)

He sadly has a hard time admitting to his mistakes and getting him to say sorry and genuinely mean it. It’s sadly one of the many reasons he has a hard time keeping people around with him, unless they’re too oblivious to not notice a toxic relationship. He means well, but not only does he find it difficult to take accountability, but he’s also too shy to say it—and he’s also a major hot head and can end up being a little too snarky and mean sometimes to the point of embarrassing his dates. Is he ever gonna learn? Who knows… He is somewhat trying, but it’s not the best as of yet

Mask

Not the romantic type, at all. He was thinking he could be in the aroace spectrum, but even he admits that while he’s somewhat hesitant in romance, bro would like to have a relationship someday with someone. After all, they can’t help but find a lot of people attractive (and maybe would like them to step on him huehuehue). Of course, his attraction is more of a “look but don’t touch” kind of attitude, as he has no hope of ever catching any decent person’s eyes

They always felt like that for them to really catch for someone, they’d have to know for at least a decade or something. That was until they met Bobble, fell head over heels, and decided to be more open minded to relationships after losing interest in her just a little bit. What really did seal the deal was when they met Aloha’s roommate and caught some big feelies, especially after she turned out to be really well adapt to preventing and calming down panic attacks… Besides, who can resist buff women? (Mask sure can’t)

Mask is more so hesitant on chasing relationships because bro is more focused on trying to find someone who can understood him for who he is, and all of who he is and his feelings. He doesn’t want to be seen as an accessory, a prize, or even as another half of someone else. Bro wants to be his own person while finding someone who matches his freak and personality, even being a nice contrast or sort of balance at that. They could use so much more balance in their life right about now…

Love language would have to be physical affection as well as gift giving. They’ve tried words of affirmation, but it turns out that they’re not so good with words. It’s just really hard to find the words to describe how much he loves you

Since bro plays the cello, he wouldn’t mind playing for you if he’s in the mood—which he often will be to do so. He’ll play for you if you’re happy, sad, angry, or nervous about anything. The cello solves anything and everything, even for himself

If his date plays instruments, he will want to hear it, including if said date can also sing. Sing him to sleep

Doesn’t mind getting sloppy with kisses. They’re shameless with it. Full tongue, all the teeth, open mouth and making the “AUAAAUALLAGAUAUGHAA” ahh noises. Even worse when bro decides to consume like 10 mints before going to sloppy town with his pookie

Similar to Army, he’s rather prone to mental breakdowns depending on the day, and he’ll need someone to be able to chase his panic and worries away

He can be a very soft spoken fellow, mostly because he doesn’t talk that often. Sometimes when he does, he’ll either speak very simply like complimenting his lover with a few kind words or he’ll get a little philosophical or poetic with what he says. He can be quite confusing but he’s got the spirit

Purrs when he’s with his lovers. He especially loves to lean down to nuzzle into the side of their head or cheek when he’s hanging with them

Love language would have to be words of affirmation, spending quality time, and physical affection. LOTS of physical affection.

His lap is the throne of the gods. You will be locked by his strong arms for century lasting cuddles. Be prepared

Really handsy kind of guy, but in the sense that he loves hand holding, hand kissing, and just having hands holding his face or him holding yours. Might even throw you over his shoulder and carry you around, so look out, he’s behind you

He is very protective of his lovers. If he thinks they’re in danger when in the presence of someone else, he will growl or straight up snarl. He tends to get a little jealous here and there, but he has better self control in those scenarios—he’d probably just wait until the perfect time to drag you off with him so you can give him all the attention.

Loves kisses on his chin, head, and his hand. He also loves to kiss his lovers in these very places too. In more intimate scenarios, he also loves chest kisses

While he’s the sweets lover, he’ll try to buy his date some sweets or take them to bakeries or candy stores as a date.

Ok ok ok so aside from cuddles and shit, he’s very emotionally observant, as in he can tell what others are really feeling if he’s given enough time to contemplate even the look on their face or the circumstances at play. This often leads to him being the first to find out if somethings wrong. No need to hide it from him, he’s all ears if you need someone to talk to

He’s not the most emotionally aware, sadly, and he has the tendency to say things he doesn’t mean or doesn’t know is hurtful. If he does hurt his significant other’s feelings then he’ll feel badder than bad

He can get overstimulated easily sometimes, but he has a hard time communicating it because he doesn’t want to potentially hurt his SO’s feelings or because he goes non verbal. He’s gotta work on his communication sadly… at least it’s never gotten too bad.

He likes to do this thing where he just finds any excuse to pick up his lovers and hold them out, whether to show them proudly to his peers or to help them reach for things in higher places. He’s also very gentle with his cuddles most of the time, unless he and his lover are feeling the mood to get a little more rough and… toothy let’s say. He always makes sure to never go too far. His pookies are always safe in his hands

Weekly Update - September 15, 2024

Hello, revengers! Another Sunday, another update.

I’m going to keep it short this week, I’ve only worked on the Connor secret reveal, which is shaping up amazingly. I’m starting to really like how this whole thing is looking. Next week I should finally be done with this thing and start implementing your amazing ideas to become homecoming royalty.

Sorry for the boring updates, I’d really like to say more here, but these things take time, especially with so many routes and results. I’ve already got 5 variables which represent how this event ends, and there might be another one when I’m done.

One thing I’d like to mention is that I’m interested in commissioning art for the characters. Until now I’ve mostly done a combination of my art + AI touchups and I’d really like to get a professional to do work on the Patreon content, especially since I’m considering bringing it down to the lower tier and more people are going to see them. So, if you know anyone good that does anime/webtoon style animations, or you are that person, please give me some recommendations so I can start setting something up for the future. As some of you know, I was interested in making the story a webcomic at some point, and if I find someone that I really vibe with, I’d be really interested in making that happen once I get a bit further in the story!

Just finished Book 5 and holy shit there is so much

Before getting into the spoilers, I feel like this is my favorite book so far, even squeezing out over 2.

This was an absolutely packed installment but let me just start with this: I got into this series for Catherine Foundling (and don't get me wrong I'm still in for her, and she was amazing in this book), but I think I'm finishing for Akua.

Like how did I go from "FUCK YOU AKUA SAHELIAN" to "HOLY SHIT I LOVE AKUA SAHELIAN" in just 2 books? Granted I was already getting on board with book 4, but this sealed it; I anticipate amazing things happening with her character (will it end positive, I honestly don't know, but the fact I could see it going either way and it'd seem right makes me so excited)

The fact she just sorta has a body now for all intents and purposes and has to interact with others already is interesting. And Catherine's change in attitude towards her was a pleasant surprise. Things changed so much between Cat, Akua and Indrani after the Everdark.

I'm still a little unclear, but when Sve Noc took Winter's mantle, Catherine lost that collared control over Akua, but despite the chance to slip free she stayed. And most likely saved Archer's life after the big battle. So like it or not Cat can't help but harbor some fondness for the shade. And thus begins what I'm thinking of as "redemption as long price", where Cat's stopped randomly torturing Akua (if she even can anymore), and instead threatens to teach her to care about other people so there's a sense of loss and regret when she finally kills her some day. WTF that's so messed up Cat and I am SO ON BOARD.

And it doesn't involve like, forcing her to do anything she wasn't already doing (being useful to Cat), but also just treating her with respect and dignity, inviting her to friend gatherings, and it seems to be working cause it's painful in a way she's not used to dealing with. This woman barely made a sound when Black made her stab herself, now she's getting bent out of shape at the fact that people were genuinely welcoming, and didn't give her the cold shoulder at a campfire gathering.

Now I know there are spoilers out there, and you don't compare a character to Zuko Avatar the Last Airbender lightly, so for now all I know for certain is, there's payoff, and people have written essays on her character. So I'll take that for the invitation to plow through the last few books that it is and see for myself. But I think she may be my 2nd favorite now, and may gun for that #1 by the time we're done. Will just have to see. And then the rewrite novels are coming out this year, and there's the webtoon AAAHJHHHDKSH

So if you thought I was obsessed with this series before, oh boy we've got so much more to look forward to. I still need to find the ttrpg someone was working on.

Moving on from Akua, I absolutely LOVE High Priestess of the Everdark Catherine! She's so fuckin cool with the staff and night powers and her strange relationship to her patron sister goddesses. You'd think being beholden to a pair of ritual murder goddesses would be more of a problem then holding Winter's mantle, but if anything the return to mortality was the best thing that ever happened to her. She's so much calmer and collected now, she's doing real diplomacy, actually trying to minimize deaths on both sides (while admittedly riding on her infamy for intimidation), and while she doesn't exactly worship Sve Noc, she does a great job as a religious leader to the drow (even calls them "my people" a few times). I'm just saying finding faith did a lot of good for her, and she still technically doesn't worship Below.

The fanart is also really sick (love how the Cloak of Woe frames this whole piece!)

Anyway, while my opinion of Akua changed dramatically, I have been in Tyrant's corner from the moment he appeared in the book 1 epilogue. And then book 5 catapults him to possibly the best Villain in this entire series! That this Saturday morning goofball who operates on cartoon logic earned that accolade is a testament to the writing in this series, and his eternal friendship with Cat was a treat from start to finish.

Everyone wanted Kairos dead from first meeting, he betrayed everyone and everything constantly, and he STILL got what he wanted in the end, and even managed to leave Cat a gift when one of his generals joins her army afterwards. Everyone may have been his eternal friend, but I think what Kairos had with Catherine was special. She was the only one to really understand him, to the point where she almost misses him despite him being The Worst. It makes my twisted zenoswol heart go pitter patter.

Speaking of romance, Archer and Cat! NOT romantic as they both insist, but, I'm still going to count it for the fact they care deeply for each other. They even have a fight early on that is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for earlier, where a couple has a disagreement that they work through together. Indrani had a brush with mortality in the Everdark, plus with Catherine now nameless and a mortal, she throws a fit at her for risking her life recklessly still, knowing one mistake can lead to a sword through her throat and that's it for her.

And they have a serious talk about it because it's just as much Indrani afraid for herself too, as she comes from a toxic background where she was taught to rely only on herself, and if her best isn't enough someday then she's a failure. Cat has to show her that it's her mortality that grounds her now, her limp meaning she won't wield a sword and shield anymore so she can't just stab every problem. And they have a real heart to heart over it! Which pays off much later when Indrani gets jibbed by the Dead King, and even though the Grey Pilgrim revives her, she still put her life on the line to save Masego, whatever the risk.

So, to sum up the Woe Polycule:

Cat and Indrani are friends with benefits

Cat Looks Respectfully at Akua while facing the camera and shaking her head to indicate she doesn't approve

Indrani will literally kill for either of them

Cat and Hakram have no physical attraction yet are soulmates to the degree getting married would be an insufficient reflection of what they have

Indrani and Masego have a non physical, non romantic friendship based on mutual curiosity and horizon seeking

I don't really know where Vivienne fits in yet, but she gets along much better with Hakram now that she's accepted the loss of her name

I'd also like to note, while the series has kept well to its YA roots and never gets too descriptive past a fade to black, we do at least get a couple hints from banter between Cat and Archer as to what the former likes in bed. That being she "likes it rough", enjoys having her hands tied, and her hair pulled. Which I mean, nice, and makes sense to me considering how much she needs to maintain control in her life, that giving up a little when intimate is appealing to her.

I'm happy for these beautiful, emotionally broken sweethearts.

Again speaking of, the Grey Pilgrim! This was the book where Cat really starts interacting with heroes in a sense that they're not trying to kill her all the time. Which makes sense cause they need every hero on their side they can get to fight the Dead King, so it's time for that new brand of Foundling diplomacy. By which I mean she keeps making good faith attempts at working together but SO many heroes don't seem to realize you can't treat an ally like a bound enemy and be surprised when they snap at you.

And don't get me wrong, Tariq does get better, but some of these heroes you'd think if a villain told them "You're lucky I was there to save you or you wouldn't be alive" and somehow take that as a threat. And I get it! I've played, watched, and read countless heroic stories, and even when the villain gives heartfelt speeches, the heroes still oppose them because the story makes them right anyway. And if the heroes otherwise would empathize with the villain's plea, it's during their dying scene. It's how these stories work. And then you've got this story, with a villain protagonist who keeps trying to reach out, whom we see all of her inner thoughts, justification, and doubts, and more likely than not gets slapped down out of political necessity, or by a hero who wants to ignore what she says and focus on her evil darkness night magic. Hell I'd be frustrated too! Frankly everyone in Procer ought to be lucky her lakeomancy days are over.

Then who does Cat meet but Hanno the White Knight, the chillest champion of Above ever, and I think the first hero to actually try talking to her first. Granted they met on good terms, but he actually hears her out, and gives a good explanation to how he utilizes Judgement the fairest he can. He even listens to what she has to say about the Liesse Accords, finds a lot to like. And then says he was warned she'd be charming and silver tongued. And she's nervous at first, until he clarifies he likes what she's proposing and understands it's not all her own ideas, he's just holding off committing himself even if that's his impulse. And it makes sense she'd flinch cause she's so used to getting burned by heroes when she's trying so hard.

I was so nervous that Hanno was gonna bite it by the very end, but I think losing Judgement was an interesting development for him. Shoutout to Hierarch for being so crazy about laws of the people and by the people and for the people, that he pulls a "if you can't beat them, join them" on the Choir of Judgement, and becomes the divine obstructionist. We'll never know how Catherine would have been judged with White Knight's coin, but after these two became allies I think I trust Hanno's judgement more than I ever trusted Judgement.

We end on a dire but oddly hopeful point. Neshamah will continue his war, Black is gone, back to the Wasteland to kneel before Malicia (and is back with Hye ugggh I don't like it, but I guess we're learning more about the Lady of the Lake soon), most of the League have dropped out, the Legions-in-exile got brain jacked to return as well, all the highest officers in the Callowan army are suspect (which means poor eternally suffering Abigail now has to cope with being—temporary—Marshal. But the Principate stands, a united front of Procerans, Callowans, and Dominion will face the Dead King, Vivienne is heiress-regeant to Cat's queenship, and, for better or worse, Tariq and Hanno can both feel Cat is on the verge of a Name. That I'm super excited for; I could see her rejecting and remaining nameless, but if she does come into one I can see her gaining a Name reflecting her goals of peace across Calernia, so not Squire or Black Night, but something like an enforcer of international law and rules of engagement. A neutral name similar to Ranger or Archer, that can be heroic or villainous depending on the story, for isn't that how it always seems to go for her.

I guess I'll find out on the last (but not actually the last) book!

Let's talk first about what the project's about because we can't go to ship without knowing what's the deal.

Bloodbath bakery is a discounted as of 2023 free webtoon comic made by Stainedge [she/he] (animator, artist, comic writer) when she was still young and fresh. He goes by Stainedge in every social media aka YouTube, Instagram and Ko-fi. Right now Stain is busy with making first draft for a new comic Tomb's Serial Slashing and I like it too but my soul is sold to BBB. BBB is a horror&slasher, let's take a look at og annotation:

"A devilish killer and his three accomplices run a bakery in a small town named Guteyed and serve customers on the daily. Little do they know; the baked good contain a dark, terrifying secret. Only one question remains: What's eating you?"

Let's talk about our slashers first.

YAMI MORNINGSTAR

Demon and a boss of a bakery, born in 1692, is a special case in his family so has this black thing on his face and a creepy smile. Got bullied in school for being lil gay kid (Tho If I was there and knew in what kind of clown he'll grow up into I'll bully him to) and due to his family's ignorance went insane and killed his parents, that saw some demoness who's name we doesn't know but me and my friends call her Gothel cus she came with the "She knows the best" phase like yk Tangled reference. He murders humans and put them in his food, that's the whole point of his bakery.

I made a whole presentation about him so If you'll be interested I'll try to translate it to English.

FALINK&SUSIE O'NIEL

They're my parents, trust.

Susie and Falink met at their job in office, fell in love and got engaged, but Falink got worked to suicide by his boss so they never married. Susie went insane and murdered the boss, we don't know what happened in between but later she died in a fire. We also don't know how they met Yami, but we know what he returned them to life and than they finally married and live their happily ever after. Falink goes thru a lot of shit and Yami constantly bullies him + he has to be a co-manager while Susie just chills on full and bakes.

MELM

We know almost nothing about Melm despite her being one of the oldest characters. She's Yami's personal guard dog and also a cashier. Melm is very aggressive. We know nothing else.
