Actually, i think it's closer to a year or more for how long Bai He was possessed. Which is honestly terrifying because why the hell did nobody notice or set up any missing child posters!?
Also, LBD probably didn't know Wukong was, well, a Spiritual Stone Monkey. So she ended up with the most interesting bit of fortune by picking a child to possess, not only because Bai He was the easy target, but because she had inadvertently managed to give herself and inate advantage against Sun Wukong by using the body of a child. As she had said Wukong,
"You're plan is to... fist fight a child!?"
No... not that's not what Wukong's plan was. But it was the only plan he had left. And with LBD piloting a child's body and openly admitting she's a child, she gave herself the advantage with that line alone. Because Wukong may have been going strong it with everything he had, not holding back, but when it came down to it, he hesitated. And it's entirely because his instincts were screaming at him not to do it.
I have no doubt Wukong was pretty messed up mentally and emotionally after being freed from the LBD, notvjyst from the actions he performed while possessed (Grievously wounding his mate, attacking his little big brother Nez Ha and nephew Red Son, kidnapping Mei snd imprisoning her in ice, almost killing MK), but also for his actions right before being possessed. I think, before Macaque has dragged Bai He into the nest, Wukong may have actively avoiding the child he had tried to kill. But then his silly mate bad to go and force the two into the same spot.
Oh Bai He has been under LBD's control since before New Years, and I feel like S2 & 3 is extended over a few weeks to account for Wukong's "vacation".
One subtle detail I noticed at the end of S1 is that the Little Girl's hair is shorter before she's possessed, suggesting that LBD has been possessing her long enough for it to grow out.

And since Wukong describes "still feeling her [LBD] under my skin", I imagine being possesed felt like Bai He's very skeleton was being puppeted by an icy hand.
For months.
And there was no sign of missing persons posters anywhere around town post-S1 finale. Even though Metropolis is a big city on par with Shanghai or similar, and demon/monster attacks have become commonplace; there would still have been something mentioned about a child going missing in the area. Unless no one was looking out for her...
Bai He would Not Be Fine in the aftermath of S3. She was possessed by a demon for nearly a year - that has to leave lasting effects on the body and soul. I'm shocked that she didn't return in S4 as a full character, even just to provide an outsiders view of all the nonsense going on. She isn't anyone's reincarnation or anyone important, but she will help her new friends by anymeans nessesary!
Wukong def feels awkward being around the little girl seeing how his nemesis was wearing her face for the last while. Bai He on the otherhand is screaming internally cus "Doesn't this guy kill demons for a living!? I'm a demon now!"
She oddly bonds quicker with Macaque, as they both see each other as victims/tools of LBD at the end of the day. Macaque thinks it's oddly cute annoying to have the pipsqueak at his heels, but he at least owes her someone who can related to the pain she's feeling.

I need the time apart Doffy spent from the Princess or Doffy's POV of the events to see how bad he's really got it. 😩 That moment when he went all soft and melted in the Princess' hands during the NSFW was perfect👌🏻💋 more of that pathetic needy Doffy desperate for his princess to tell him she loves him and him looking at her in wonder like he can't believe she's here with him, please.
I loved the description of "the monster wearing the face of the man she loved" was perfect, I loved it, just enough of that dread that whoop that is a PIRATE. It made me go "OH THERE HE FCKN IS! THERE HE IS, HELLO, DOFFY, TOOK YOU A WHILE!" I was SEATED and ECSTATIC AND GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET.
Also, when he started laughing and smiling manically in his Doffy fashion I shouted "THERE HE IS! THERE'S OUR CRAZY FLAMINGO MAN! STRAP IN, CUS THIS MAN IS CRAAAAAZY! GOOD FCKN LUCK!" and his monologue — he was ECSTATIC. He's in love, but in his usual, toxic Doffy fashion.
I loved the last sentences a lot. "Survive the honeymoon" checks out seeing how much stamina Doffy naturally has and you showed that very well. I wonder just how much hours he'll spend with the princess in his cabin now and later in bed in Dressrosa...
And of course the "locked in Doflamingo's embrace", "cradled in possessive arms" I love the dichotomy.
To end on a fluffy note, the Pirate Warlord appears to love cuddling his wife which is adorable.
Also, based for 1 little diamond for each month they were apart... 3 years... So there are 36 little diamonds in the ring?

"Doffy POV in the time they were apart" is currently winning the poll and i can see why! so much went on outside of the princess's POV that it makes sense people are curious what happened...i didn't include Doffy POV in the story proper because i felt the tension was better without it, leaving the princess and the reader always guessing, but for supplementary material i think it's a great bonus!
one scene i have planned is set after the "chess game for the fate of the princess," him just looking at her as she sleeps...a bit creepy, sure, but i think that moment of him being alone with her will be very sweet, he can reflect and emote without anyone judging him so that's the moment he's most likely to let down his guard
AND I AM SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE MOMENTS DOFFY WENT A BIT NUTS! i partly think he was performing for the General outside the door, but also he IS just a little deranged and was letting loose now that the princess is his and he doesn't have to fear losing her...time to let that freak flag fly y'know what i mean?
omg. you have no idea how happy i am that you noticed the locked/cradled+embrace/possessive wording....i was pretty deliberate with that line and it's rare people point out my phrasing choices so knowing you noticed is a HUGE TREAT for meeeeee (இ﹏இ`。)

well, after 36 hours, i've finished tales of symphonia once again :) and despite the many flaws in the switch remastered edition, i honestly had a blast playing through it for the umpteenth time. no matter how many times i play through this game, it just brings me joy like no other. i've already rambled about why i love this game when i beat it for the first time in the ps3 collection, so super long junk thoughts below this time about the remastered edition, playing through the hard path for the first time ever, and wow still finding new sub-events after all these years:
i cannot BELIEVE that this game, from the gamecube era!!!, runs so poorly on the switch. there was only one update downloaded when i first started playing it late february, but that didn't really do anything to improve the experience or performance of the game as far as i could tell. it becomes super noticeable when you first go to the triet desert (2 hours into the game!) and the game starts lagging, but it's even WORSE when you go into the ruins. it's super distracting and honestly annoying as you watch your field character running slowly as fuck. and sadly the lagging doesn't stop there, there was lag in other areas of the game, like in latheon gorge and the temple of lightning. like, it's honestly inexcusable to release a gamecube port with such poor performance and if i was a first-time player, it would be off-putting and make me think twice about playing through this game!
also, as i was going through vinheim, i put colette briefly in my party and i don't know what it was but as soon as i put her in there, the battle stage would start lagging too. i had lloyd/sheena/genis/raine beforehand without any noticeable issues, but i don't know what it was about adding colette that well, i just had to switch her back out after a couple of battles. some other battle scenes would also lag but that's the one i remember the most. does anyone know if the ps4 runs just as bad? cus when i played the ps3 edition, i had no problems like this at any point in the game, so it's just baffling at how bandai-namco messed up such a beloved game!!
what was also distracting was that the field enemies would be t-posing around from time to time. i first noticed it when i went to rodyle's ranch, and it became more constant in the last few levels in the game, especially derris-kharlan and vinheim. like c'mooooooonnnnn!
i also already talked about this, but the loading screens when entering and exiting the overworld (like during overworld battles) or even i think sometimes within the same dungeons/towns? it's.....frustrating when you consider that these loading screens were non-existant in the gcn/ps3 versions, but i mean....sadly, i got used to them after a while, so i stopped noticing them as much. :/
and lastly, what was annoying was that i couldn't even enjoy the beautiful staff credits ending theme because....the sound was like skipping as it was trying to play? i can't remember any other instances of the sound skipping or having blips, so it was just honestly baffling to notice it for the first time during such an impactful theme song -_-
but like i mentioned, despite all these annoyances through the game, i think i enjoyed this playthrough more than when i played it through the ps3 last year. and i think that's mostly due to having done the hard path for the first time ever! it was honestly so cool because it felt like a brand new experience: at some points i got lost as to where to go next, and it made me look forward to see how certain interactions/cutscenes would change with sheena in my party for the palmacosta section. seeing all those additional cutscenes with sheena and the luin kids, as well as her going around trying to look for a cure for pietro, really puts it in a better perspective just how much of a kind-hearted person she really is! also i mentioned it already but seeing luin before it gets destroyed and talking to the townspeople about their fear of desians has a WAY bigger impact when you come back to luin and seeing it all destroyed, and of course makes you better sympathize with sheena on wanting to rescue the townspeople. seriously the hard path makes the sylvarant arc make way more sense than by just going to palmacosta first before luin, but it helps that sheena is like my favorite character of the bunch lol.
and well, honestly if you want to get sheena as first in your list in flanoir, the hard path is the way to go. when i did my ps3 run, i did the normal route and even after choosing all the sheena-positive choices as well as doing ALL of her overworld skits, she was still behind colette and genis. but doing the hard path, she was already first in the affection list shortly after reaching tethe'alla. so i got to see her affection scene after the mana cannon ordeal without any issues. :)
i WILL say though that they don't call it the hard path for no reason. doing the tower of mana first before the balacruf mausoleum and thoda geyser was hard as fuck!! i got there as level 13-14, and the boss just kicked my ass. colette would keep saying "wow, looks REALLY strong!" to even the regular enemies, and honestly i had to grind to level 20 to even have a chance with the boss. so that was fun! it made the remaining seals super easy to do, even defeating dorr's fake daughter and magnius. so yeah, getting past the tower of mana is definitely the hard part, but once that's done, it's easy sailing to tethe'alla!
and last but not least, i STILL found new cutscenes that i had never seen before! i started doing this in the ps3 run but i didn't know that you had to get cutscenes for everyone in the party in tethe'alla regarding their choice of where they would want to live after "splitting" the worlds (i think i only saw the ones for sheena, zelos, presea, and regal, but not genis and raine, whoops!). i always thought it was weird how this wasn't something that wasn't discussed beforehand because i mean, the last pact is in sylvarant so even if there were tethe'allans that want to stay in tethe'alla, they in theory would be stuck in sylvarant after the pact! but turns out that after you visit all of the towns in tethe'alla, the entire party comes to a decision and decides that they want to help lloyd in sylvarant and stick with him no matter what. how damn sweet!! 😭
also got some new sub-events! i don't remember getting a "Free Pass" in the ps3 version, and if i did, i must have forgotten lol. but with the Free Pass you can get an additional cutscene in the altamira hotel's luxury suite with the person you picked in flanoir (i'm guessing, either that or your highest-affection character?), so that was cool to see! and also the additional cutscene where the luin townsfolk want to give the title of honorary mayor to one member of your choice (another chance to raise the affection of someone but the honorary mayor ends up being lloyd no matter what lol), and also we see that pietro, with his mission accomplished in luin, leaves the town to help more people around the world with sophia's help!! how damn cool is that?! what an amazing character pietro turned out to be! 🥰
WELL, enough talking about how much i freaking love this game. there were other things i wanted to talk about as i was playing through, such as botta's last words or my favorite main-story skit in the game, but i didn't wanna spam the tag lol. but well, if i find out that the ps4 version's performance doesn't suck ass, or if they ever release a patch for the switch version that fixes SOME of the performance issues, then i will have no choice but to play through this beautiful game yeeeeeetttt again. :)

Finally saw the Wicked movie and it was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. For a movie version, Ariana was fine as Glinda. Not as campy as I’d prefer, but it was fine. Jonathon Bailey was adorable (all the moments he got to flirt with guys in Dancing Through Life was wonderful!). And I did enjoy Ariana and Cynthia’s chemistry. Whatever weird sex shit they got going on seemed to help with giving them great chemistry cus they were fun.
Cynthia, Cynthia, Cynthia was absolutely the wrong choice for Elphaba and nothing can make me take that back (unless she dominates in act II). Musically, she did NOT deliver in that musical. I’ve always felt that Glinda gets nicer notes (in the songs they sing together, Elphaba typically takes the supporting harmony while Glinda sings the actual melody), which I get why they do that. But the point is if the actress playing Elphaba had a powerful and dynamic voice (uniquely so, like Idina), it doesn’t matter; you’ll still hear her and she’ll easily carry the songs she’s singing alone. But I was very underwhelmed with Cynthia’s voice. Even her rifts weren’t that impressive, which surprised me as a Broadway actress who was in The Color Purple. Like tbqh, I just expected better vocally from a black actress whose claim to fame was a black musical.
Like I was surprised by how typical her voice sounded; nothing interesting or unique about it to make me understand why the industry wants to make her an EGOT so badly (she’ll likely finally win that Oscar with this role and get it, but why?). Like Jennifer Hudson winning that Oscar for Dreamgirls made sense; I know this may be a hard pill to for older black folks to swallow but she sang that act 1 closer better than Jennifer Holiday. Yeah, I said it. We can understand why J Hud got that attention. Cynthia? Very mid for a black woman I’m very unimpressed.
When she got to the parts of Defying Gravity where she had to belt some, I thought “okay okay, keep going, more of this.” But then it never got bigger or bolder. I really wanted to put my bias to the side and not hate on her cuz of her stupid mouth when she was promoting Harriet, but that was such a mid performance. The no-name actress playing her on Broadway when I saw it right before Covid was light years better than Cynthia and that’s insane. Every main actor has stage experience, and yet Cynthia was the one I was wondering why she was there. She’s not a bad actress, but if that’s the best she can do vocally, what was all the hype for? I don’t get it? Anyone who can be on a chorus on Broadway can sing better than that; I’m not getting it. I’m so frustrated with how disappointing her voice was.
I will say her rift on that last note (after they took eight years to get there; jfc they did not have to change the arrangement to Defying Gravity that much lol) was a lot nicer in the movie/full recording than it was in the trailer. So that was nice. And again the acting was fine overall.
Oh another nitpick/creative direction I wish they took was if they let the “animals” be humanoid like they would be on stage (also get some good physical effects/makeup going), and then have them the fully cgi animals once they “devolve.” I think that would also make the way that Elphaba can relate to them make more sense; they’re like humans but different, just like she is (I mean, she’s just green but you get my point lol). It’ll also make their “devolved” state more noticeable. Just a creative choice I would have made and preferred, but not a knock against the movie. At least not a huge one.
Idk it is what it is. It was really nice and the ensemble moments were phenomenal. All the dancing and such was so nice and dynamic and it makes me think a bit of the Wiz with its choreo and production. The outfits were also amazing!!! Like it LOOKED amazing. And there was a bit of substance behind it. Just not as much substance as I feel would match the energy elsewhere.
When the second act comes out I do want to see that in theater. It at least is a movie that deserves that imo.

“Are you nervous, darling?” Steven popped up in the mirror behind you, a beaming smile on his face as his eyes met yours. You tried to muster up a smile, but found yourself falling short and giving him a tight-lipped half smile, “there’s no need to be.”
“Considering it’s my final showcase - performance - I think I deserve to be nervous,” you huffed lightly, only causing him to laugh. The sound in itself was beautiful and managed to put a sense of ease into your bones and you relaxed slightly. Steven felt better once he noticed some of the tension leave your shoulders, “what if I-”
“You have nothing to worry about,” he insisted, pressing a kiss to the side of your head, “it’ll be perfect…and even in the off chance that it wasn’t perfect, no one will know.”
“I hope so,” you agreed before turning around to wrap him in a tight embrace. He made a small sound of surprise at the sudden hug but didn’t stop you. Instead, he held you back with such as much intensity, “Steven…I…you’ll come, right? To the showcase?”
"That's not even a question, darling," his hands found your shoulders and gave them a gentle squeeze. You nodded gently before touching his face and stroking his cheek, "alright, I know how to read you a little better than you think…what else is bothering you? I hope you know that you can tell me anything…"
"I know," you whispered softly, "I…I don’t want anything to happen with Marc."
“Marc wouldn’t do anything,” he insisted and while you were reluctant to admit it, Marc was a lot of things but a general jerk he was not, “and besides, he knows it’s my time with you. He can be a right prick but he has some decency.”
“I suppose I can’t argue with that logic,” you laughed lightly, nodding as you exhaled deeply in an attempt to rid yourself of all the worry and nervous energy, “thank you.”
“Whatever for?” he tilted his head to the side, not unlike a puppy as he looked at you with those soft big brown eyes. 
“For being you,” you whispered, leaning in for a kiss, “and being wonderful as ever.”
“Oh,” a bright red flush rose up on his cheeks as he eagerly accepted your kiss. He wished there was time to let it go further, but he reminded himself to stay strong and hold back - for now anyway, “we should…I’ll let you finish getting ready. We’ll have to go soon to make it on time.”
“Right,” you agreed, feeling your stomach flip slightly, “I can do this. I will do this.”

The whole evening went by in a blur. One moment you were finishing getting ready to go and then leaving with Steven and the next you were on stage. It was a strange thing really, to think about the fact that this would be your last performance, at least in an academic setting. In a way it was like the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. The one thing that was a constant was Steven…and there was no one else you’d rather have gone through this with. 
The funny thing about performing on stage which most people never realized unless they got on stage themselves is that the audience was but a blur. The stage lights dulled everything out and there really wasn’t much to see in the audience except a sea of darkness. This evening however, there was one standout; in the large crowd your eyes still managed to find him. You thought you might have been nervous, but instead you felt calmed and it was almost as if you were speaking to him and him alone. It made the whole experience just that much better. 
The rapturous applause that reached your ears didn’t hurt either, but none of that really mattered at the end of the day. The only thing that mattered was that you had survived and done your best. 
Once everything was over and you were settled and changed, you walked out into the cool evening air and looked around for Steven. He spotted you before you could see him, almost tripping over his own feet in his excitement to get to you. There was a large bouquet of daisies, daffodils, and amaryllis in his arms and he excitedly held them out to you. 
“Congratulations, my love,” his smile threatened to break his face in half as you gently took them from him. Between the gorgeous flowers and your love, your heart was filled to bursting and you had to fight back the sting of fresh tears. He seemed alarmed by the sound shift of expression, “what’s wrong? Did I-I do something?”
“No,” you promised as you dabbed at your eyes, “yes, but no. This is just so wonderful…and kind. I love you very much, Steven Grant.”
He gave you a shy little smile before kissing your forehead, “I love you too. Very much. I…I don’t know if it’s possible, but I think I just fell in love with you all over again. I fall in love with you a little more every day.”
“Steven,” you touched his cheek before running a hand through his wild curls, “that might be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. There is no way to put into words just how much I love you, but just know it is a ton and then more.”
“I’d say that’s an awful lot,” your words had him feeling like a shy boy more than a grown man. He was sure Marc would tease him about later on, but then speaking of Marc…”you were amazing. You did…a wonderful job, fantastic. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Marc was very impressed too. He wanted me to tell you.”
“Oh really?” you raised an eyebrow in surprise but couldn’t deny that the praise felt you feeling good. You’d always had a funny little relationship with Marc, but you wouldn’t think he would enjoy something like this. Steven nodded eagerly, “you’ll have to…I’ll have to thank him later. It means a lot…really, having you - both of you really - here for me. It made this so much better. Thank you.”
“Nothing to thank me for,” he insisted gently, “if anything we should be thanking you for that performance. But right now, I have one more big question for you…”
“Which would be?”
“Would you like to go to dinner with me?”
“Always,” you laughed lightly at the jokingly serious look on his features, “you must have read my mind. I would never turn down dinner. Where to?”
“You pick,” he grinned as your eyes lit up in excitement, “tonight is about you, my love.”
“Steven…I love you.”
“I love you more,” he promised, “always.”

You came home from school, lugging yourself through the door and going straight up to your room, not even bothering to greet Bucky or Steve, who were sat in the living room. They noticed that you didn’t say hello, since you were always so excited to come home to see them, so they were a bit confused to say the least.
It’s impossible to make a long story short at this point, but to speak in broader terms, you hated yourself. It started when you were at school one day; your teacher, of all people pointed out a part of you that you never thought was a problem: your weight. The same day, after you came home, you looked at yourself in the mirror and couldn’t help but think about everything else that could’ve possibly been wrong with you.
You ended up finding flaws in yourself that you’d never even dreamed of having. Your hair wasn’t like the pretty girls at school, your waist wasn’t as thin as the model you saw on social media, your freckles didn’t look as cute as that little girl you met the other day, your face wasn’t as chiseled as the woman in the TV show you were watching, and your thighs... there was no gap between them. It was as if you were being hit by a bunch of waves nonstop; and now you were drowning. It got to the point where all you would consume each day was a cup of iced coffee and gum, but you still weren’t satisfied with how you looked; wearing baggy clothing and avoiding meals with the excuse of having a lot of homework became a normal routine for you. You were physically and emotionally exhausted, and honestly just wished you could hide inside of a shell for as long as possible. Unfortunately, you didn’t have a shell, but your room would have to do.
You slung your backpack off your shoulder and roughly ripped your shoes off your feet, immediately crawling under the covers of your bed. It was nice, being in your own space, until you heard a knock on your door. You groaned at the sound, hoping whoever it was would leave after your nonexistent reply; but yet again, another knock.
“Ugh. Go awayyy!”
“It’s Steve. Can I come in?” he said as he poked his head in a bit.
“Well you already opened the door so... yeah I guess.” you said from underneath your covers, body covered from head to toe. Steve smiled a bit, walking over to sit beside the lump in your bed which was you.
“You wanna tell me why you’re upset?”
“Uh uh.” you responded, still under your sheets.
“C’mon take that off your face I can barely hear you-” he said as he ripped the sheet away from your face. You sat up in annoyance, seeing that Bucky was now walking into your room to join in on the interrogation. You subconsciously rolled your eyes, not wanting anything to do with the two at the moment, but you knew they weren’t gonna leave you alone until they knew exactly what was up with you. Bucky walked to the side that Steve wasn’t on, but sat next to you on the bed as well.
“You okay doll?” Bucky asked with concerned look on his face.
“Guys, I’m fine. Just had a rough day is all...” you said as you looked down, fiddling with your fingers. They looked at each other in worriment. What you didn’t know was that they’d noticed your behavior over the last few weeks. It wasn’t hard to; you had gone from a happy go lucky teenager to a quiet mouse in a matter of a couple days. Steve took hold of your fidgety hands, wanting to cry at the sheer sight of how much they were shaking before he had grabbed them.
“No. You’re not fine. And that’s okay,” as he looked you straight in your big doe eyes, “but we need you to be honest with us, okay?” He had never looked so concerned before. You obviously knew what you were going through, but failed to recognize that they were probably petrified for you as well. For as long as you could remember, Steve and Bucky were always there for you; whatever problem you had, they fixed; if you were troubled by something or another, they always cheered you up. It was probably eating them from the inside out, not knowing what was going on with you. You played with his hands a bit, looking at him and then Bucky before you started to explain.
“I... I hate myself.” you said as your voice already began to crack, tears threatening fall. The two looked at each other in complete and utter disbelief, but let you continue without interruption. “Everything about me... I’m just so ugly!” you were crying now, not bothering to wipe your face off in front of the two. “I’m not as pretty as all the other girls. I’m a waste of space.” You’d been numb for so long that it actually felt good to cry.
“Hey hey hey! Don’t say something like that about yourself!” Bucky interrupted, a bit furious at the fact that you could even fathom such a thing about yourself, but keeping a calm tone with his voice nonetheless. He scooted closer to you, wiping your tears off with his bare hands as he swiped his hand off onto his shirt, not caring if it got dirty. “Y/n,” he said, pulling your face by your chin so you were looking at him, “you... are beautiful. Every single thing about you-”
“Even my freckles?” you interrupted quietly. He chuckled in pure adoration.
“Especially your freckles, sweet girl.” he affirmed. He was upset at the fact that you weren’t joking with that question... that you were genuinely asking, not even a smile grazing your lips. Steve, on the other hand was tearing up a bit. He was the more sensitive one of the two, for obvious reasons. “Do you understand what I’m saying? The way that you’ve been avoiding your meals and wearing our clothes all the time... it needs to stop.” You guiltily looked down once again, reflecting on how bad it actually was. This gave Steve a bit of time to collect himself as he took you into his lap, holding you how he did when you were much smaller, although you still fit in his arms just how you always had.
“Hey,” Steve said, looking down at you as you looked up at him, your nose a bright red from all the crying, “there is absolutely nothing wrong with how you look. I don’t know where you got that idea from, but that doesn’t matter now... what matters is that you are the most adorable girl on the planet, and you don’t need me or anyone else to tell you that. The way your nose twitches like a bunny when you’re nervous, how your tongue sticks out a little when your super concentrated, and your cute little laugh...” he said, following with a few pokes to your stomach, making you giggle for just a second, but it was enough to provoke him into a full blown tickle attack, cuing Bucky in to help him. Tickling you silly was always their sure fire way of cheering you up - in this case, lightening the mood as well - so you couldn’t say you were surprised. That isn’t to say you weren’t in agony whenever they did it.
“wahaHAHAHAIT GUHUHUHUYS!” you yelped, kicking your legs out as they moved from spot to spot, not even needing to hold you in place since you were already wedged between them.
“Steve, why’s she laughing so hard?”
“Yeah y/n what’s so funny over there?” Steve quipped.
“IT TIHIHICKLESSSSS!” you screamed in frustration, batting at their hands to no avail.
“Yeah it’s supposed to... duh.” Bucky teased, earning a few aggravated whines from you. The two had paused as if they could read each other’s minds; you were confused as to why they stopped so soon, but it wasn’t for no reason. They both had evil grins plastered on their faces, which told you that they weren’t done yet.
“Okay y/n...,” Steve started, his hands resting on your stomach, “do you want raspberries or-”
“NONONONONO PLEHEASE NO!”
“you didn’t let me finish! Or... do you want ribs?” Bucky snorted at the awful proposal, but went along with it regardless.
“Uhm... is neither an option?” you said hopefully.
“It’s either one or both...” Steve stated seriously, noticing your eyes widen at the ultimatum, almost breaking character at how your eyes began to dart between him and Bucky.
“Better hurry up y/n... time’s tickin’...” Bucky chimed as he pretended to tap a watch on his wrist.
“I’m not choosing!” you said, attempting to sound as angry as possible, but they saw right through you.
“Ladies and gentleman... we have a winner!” Bucky announced in a deep voice. “Miss y/n wins both raspberries and ribs!” Steve snickered at Bucky’s voice as he was amused by his performance, but looked back at you straight after.
“You ready?” he said all too softly as he menacingly hovered over you.
“Please dohohon’t!” you begged, nervous giggles pouring out of you.
“Sorry bug but you brought this upon yourself...” Steve shrugged as he spoke half-heartedly. You braced yourself as the two dug in, Steve taking care of the raspberries as Bucky shook his hands into your ribs. You shrieked so loud, they were surprised you hadn’t broken a sound barrier.
“STAHAHAHAHAP!” you screamed. They had figured you were pretty tired considering you’d just gotten home from school, so after a few more minutes of their fun, they decided to let up. You immediately curled up like a slinky as they stopped, wrapping your arms around your body to protect yourself from any more unexpected attacks.
“Oh relax... we’re done, I promise...” Steve laughed. “...as long as you start eating, correctly.”
“Cross my heart.” you vowed as Steve stood up, satisfied with your response. Bucky smiled at you sweetly, lifting up your curled form onto his lap this time, kissing the top of your head as he held you tightly. “I love you guys... and thanks for making me feel better.”
“Love you too lil sis...” Steve said as he leaned down to kiss your cheek, pinching it once before he went to leave the room.
“We love you more than anything, sweet girl.” Bucky said softly. It would take some time; gaining the courage to eat full meals and wearing your own clothes again, but you knew that with Bucky and Steve, you’d be just fine. You were upset that you hadn’t talked to them sooner, but it was better late than never. They were your rock, and you were their pride and joy, and you knew that they would rather die than allow you to feel so terribly about yourself. It might be sappy to say, but you would never change the relationship you had with them for the world; that was one thing you knew for sure.

Summary: Remus and you have always had a playful, loving relationship but his behavior around the full moon leads you to assume the worst. A huge fight ends with the two of you heartbroken. Will Remus reveal the truth behind his behavior?  And will you still love him afterwards or has he truly lost you forever?

Authors Note: For best experience I have linked the song in the song title so you can listen while you read. I wrote this in a haze of excitement, it is just so silly but I have no trouble believing the Marauders would completely embarrass themselves like this for someone they love.  Enjoy!

                                       ****Take A Chance On Me****
The great hall was silent, I had to actively keep my eyes off of the boys just a couple seats down.  Lily was trying her hardest not to stare with longing and regret too.  I placed my hand within hers and squeezed as if to say I’m here for you, and though it isn’t my fault, I’m sorry.  She squeezed my hand back, returning the sentiments, and bounced back with a smile, pretending to be happier than she was.  I wanted to roll my eyes at her change of mood but instead I appreciate the attempt to brighten the morning.  You can always count on Lily Evans to empathize and surprise in every situation.
We heard it before we saw it.  Loud, pulsing sound.  As it got closer I couldn’t help the gasp that fell embarrassingly loud from my mouth.  It was one of our favorite muggle bands, Abba, their song was blasting through corridors Take a Chance on Me, but there was no lyrics yet, just the background music as if waiting for the performers. Just like it had countless times before on karaoke nights with the marauders.
Suddenly, the great hall doors were slammed open by two large flying speakers, obviously charmed.  A feeling of knowing washed over me and I whip my head towards the boys. Just in time to watch as they climb onto the table, their faces adorned with a beautiful blue color, Remus in gold. 
Lily sucked in a deep breath beside me while watching James standing tall despite the spouts of laughter. Sirius throws off his robe, it lands on the head of a flabbergasted Gryffindor, Sirius is revealed to be wearing bright blue bell bottom sparkly pants, his white school button up is tucked underneath. 
 Remus was right after him, throwing off his robes and ripping off his shirt.  Buttons flew onto the people around them but no one paid them any mind.  All eyes were on the infamous Marauders, because Remus was now wearing a sparkly blue jumpsuit just like the ones ABBA preform in, with flare pants as to match the rest of the boys  His gold lips sparkled and I had to stop myself from wanting to kiss him senseless. His eyes seemed even brighter under the gold hue of his makeup, he was golden.
 Nothing was more attractive then the confidence and savvy of the boys before us(didn’t help that I had a fat crush on David Bowie and ABBA).  Nothing sweeter than the way they stood and smiled at Lily and I while everyone around us laughed, pointed, whispered and some even smiling themselves.
Sirius picked up a cup by his foot, while James threw off his own robes, wearing an ABBA band shirt Lily bought him ages ago, he was wearing swaying bell bottoms too.  Peter flipped his robe inside out to reveal the other side as bright blue with obviously badly glued on glitter, clusters of glitter fell on the table very time he nervously tapped his foot.  
Remus brought his wand to his lips, as if a microphone and somehow the lanterns around us dimmed.
Dumbledore cleared his throat, getting over the shock much faster than everyone else, but whatever he was going to say was cut off as the music started to play from the very beginning and this time the voices of four boys joined in, singing the lyrics.
The lights flashed as James sang first, his voice cracking and in the fleeting light you could see him blush. Lily slapped my arm in shock and excitement. Then light flashes again like lightning, as Sirius joined in, singing much louder, he always said he’d like to be a rock star just once (granted this is much different, but he will no doubt pretend there is no difference at all).  The next light cued in Peter who sang with his eyes closed, his voice shaking with nerves but he new every line.
It wasn’t until the second verse that their voices died down and the lanterns illuminated the great hall completely again as Remus’s voice rang out strong and clear.  His eyes on me. His voice took my breath away, he sounded both awful and yet beautiful.
“If you’re all alone,” he sings, “When the pretty birds have flown,” gasps join in with the music as hundreds of paper doves fly in through the doors, whizzing past me and putting my hair in array, then soaring way over my head, circling up in the ceiling. I could hear Professor McGonagall stifle both her surprise and joy.  Everyone was laughing and cheering, but then silence fell again to listen.  I could not take my eyes off of Remus, who in turn, would not take his eyes off of me.
“Honey, I’m still free, Take a chance on me...” He must have finished his solo part because the boys start to sing along after that and they all begin to strut down the table towards us like a cat walk. Remus stops just short of us and hops, on beat, off of the table.
Peter, James and Sirius walk right towards me. Sirius slitting his eyes and stooping low, pointing at me with one hand as he sings into the cup with the other.  They all stand in front of Lily and I, hips shaking to the beat and James has eyes for Lily only. All the boys sang to us in union.
“If you need me, let me know, gonna be around,” Sirius eye’s turning oddly soft as they sang, “If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down.“
Then they quickly turn towards the crowd again, but I felt it. I felt their hidden apology. For the first time in days I felt some of my anger and sadness slip from me, with every lyric, and every bright, bashful smile.  My anger left me as they sang and embarrassed themselves for the sake of a grand apology.
 Lily started to laugh. She doubled over and tried to hide her smile with a hand but it was just too ridiculous, all of it really was. James did a double-take when he saw this, then he broke out into the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, and his voice no longer sounded so shy. I start giggling myself as Sirius jumps off the table like a rock n roller and dances over to Minnie and Dumbledore, their foot tapping did not go unnoticed by him.
James waltz over to Lily and bows low before her, extending his arm, he sings “We can go dancing,” Lily giggled and takes his hand, she surprises everyone and joins in 
“We can go walking,” She sings. James smirks and carries on with a raised brow.
“As long as we’re together...” Then he runs with her past the table, his pants waving and tossing, Lily’s laughing uncontrollably by his side, joining in indefinitely for the song.  Remus’s voice still rang loudest over the boys, my eyes searching for him in the room, I seem to have lost him in the commotion of others jumping up and dancing, and the sweet moment between James and Lily.
Then their voices left the serenade and once more it was just Remus.  He sounded so close to me, I turned around and my heart did a back flip. He was right behind me, smiling sadly as he say...
“When I dream I'm alone with you, it's magic You want me to leave it there Afraid of a love affair But I think you know that I can't let go” Remus sings, everyone falling quite again as the lights dim once more and a single light is glowing above us. It was in the shape of a white butterfly, and a shooting star darting around it.  The great hall grew silent once more.  Dumbledore’s voice was heard quietly singing the song, for the music has died down, Minnie hit him and watched us anxiously.  
She only grew tenser as Remus sang without music, he looked so vulnerable under the soft white glow and under the eyes of everyone in the room.  But above that, he was being vulnerable to me, his voice more of a plead than song. 
“If you change your mind, I'm the first in line Honey I'm still free, take a chance on me If you need me, let me know, gonna be around If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down,” He finished with baited breath, despite his lungs begging for more, he was too focused on what I would do next. I take a deep breath and stop fighting the feelings inside of me. I smile brightly up at him, using my own wand, I bring it up to my lips like a microphone too.

Remus’s face lights up with bubbling laughter and pure joy.  He takes me in his arms and spins me around, while we embrace the music and lights are back on and everyone in the great hall is singing.  Minnie and Dumbledore included, she is smiling at us.
Remus stops spinning and is just standing before me now, very still, as if he was debating whether this is all a dream or not.  His glittering eyes boring into mine with such strong emotions I felt trapped, utterly entranced. The words of the song rush through me like the wind, he grabbed my hand softly, and led us both on top of the table.
 “Let me tell you now.  My love is strong enough, To last when things get rough, it’s magic.” As he sings those sweet words, magic fireworks erupt above us in little cheesy hearts of red. Students around us are overjoyed, up themselves and twirling around, dancing.  Many gasped and awed at the fireworks, but nothing was more astonishing than what happened next.

Now, was what happens next petty?  Yes.  Did it land all of the Marauder detention?  Yes.  Did any of us enjoy the scene any less? Not at fucking all...

All the birds swooped down in a cloud of white, their paper wings rustling against one another.  They moved like the wind, swooping as one to the right side of the room and then drifting swiftly to the left until they got lower and lower.  Until they were right over Lucy Diamond.
I stopped dancing with Remus and stood still, along with most of the students and teachers I was watching the birds.  But Remus was still singling softly into my ear, his voice dripped with mischief, the other boys still sang as well, sounding just as suspicious, but otherwise unbothered.
Then the birds broke formation and with every hit of the drum a bird flew down over the top of Lucy’s head, and very quickly shits something atop her head.  Each one falls softly, it does not hurt her, but upon impact they break open and release the most god awful smell. Lucy can’t stop screaming, she tries to get up and run but the birds follow her out the door.
Stink bomb after stink bomb was dropped atop her head.  The Great Hall was alive with laughter, but perhaps the loudest of all, was my own.  Remus was stilling humming in my ear, highly amused he let himself watch too until Lucy was gone from sight.
“Oh, Remus,” I say, laughing loudly, “That is evil.” He laughs too, looking down at me he shrugs. We look at each other and nod, “She deserves it.” We say in union before laughing again.
But then the music screeched to a halt, silence overtook us in waves and drowned us as Dumbledore stood up, his wand being tucked back into his robes.   
“Mr.Remus Lupin,” he starts slowly, his low voice gathering everyone’s attention, “Mr.Sirius Black.  Mr.James Potter and Mr.Peter Pettigrew.  I assume this is of your doing?” He inquires, though the answer is obvious.  The boys swallow thickly, nodding their heads.  I squeeze Remus’s hand and he shoots me a quick, lopsided smile.  Everyone was feeling a bit uneasy, maybe even guilty.
“mmmh,” He nods, “Thought so.  Though I always appreciate a dance number, the stink bombs are what concern me most.  The four of you will have detention this afternoon, and whatever else Professor McGonagall deems appropriate.” He sits back down, and the student body are unsure of where the look.  At Dumbledore, Minnie, or the boys in trouble.
“Yes, Professor.” They all say at once.  After a while of the stiff silence everyone goes back to their seats.  It wasn’t long before everyone was talking animatedly about what just happened.
“I’ve never seen a thing like it...”One says.
“The makeup’s nice, innit?”
“Yeah, but the pants are god awful.”  “Nonesense, have you ever even seen ABBA?’’
Lily and I find ourselves sitting next to the boys again, stupefied by the whole event.  I felt overjoyed and confused and surely surprised.  I never thought in all my life, I’d be lucky enough to see the Marauders perform ABBA in such attire, at Hogwarts nonetheless.
“So..whatcha’ think?  Think I’ll make a good rock star, huh?  I knew it was for me.” Sirius starts, flaunting his bandana and not bothering to put his robe back on.  
“I didn’t know I had it in me.  Merlin, did ya see me shaking, Remus?” Peter says excitedly.  Remus turns to him with a bright smile, nodding his head.
“All of ya were just great. Peter memorized the footwork better, though.” Remus says, James wacks his arm.
“Did not, I worked hard on that. Lily liked it.  Didn’t cha?” James turns to Lily, who much like me, is still blushing mad.  She can only nod. We were still trying to process our shock, and Remus’s golden lips and glowing eyes weren’t making it any easier for me.  I’m sure the blue on James had the same affect on Lily.
“But..uhm,” Remus clears his throat, looking rather nervous he turns to me now, “What did you think of it?” He fidgets while I looked for my answer, smiling at the mere memory of minutes ago.
“I thought it was...grand!  Shocked me half to death ya did!” I can’t help my voice raising and contorting with my waves of emotions, happy, surprised, impressed and underneath it all, discontent. I lean into Remus, he leans into me, so his ear is close to my mouth, just like when we’d whisper in class. The others talk around us, but we fall into our own world. 
“But I need more than just a song, Remus.  I need answers.  A real conversation, ya know?” I ask, nervous he’ll take it wrong.  His actions proved how much he wanted me back, hell he was willing to tarnish his reputation and mortify himself in front of everyone for me.  I wanted to make it work just as much, so I hoped he understands that for this to work, we need honesty.  He nods eagerly behind me, turning to me with a soft smile.
“I know.  You deserve nothing less than the whole truth.  Because you’re right, I’ve never cheated on you once,” I nod at him, I’ve gathered that much from Sirius and James’s comments, but my heart still felt lighter at the confession, “But I have been lying to you.” My heart sank at his words and I sat in silence, waiting for more.  He took in my reaction and rushes out the rest, as if scared I’ll leave him again. “But I plan on never lying to you again, starting with tonight.  After my detention. And (y/n)... I am so sorry for everything that has happened between us.” The intensity in his eyes glue me in place even as the bell chimes, signifying the end of breakfast.
“Here, take this.” He slips a note into my hand, kissing me on the cheek. “It has everything you need to know for my...full apology.”  He glances uneasily at the staring students and we both turn to the sound of James’s voice calling for Remus.  Remus gives him a thumbs up and turns towards me again.
“I’ve got to go...er change out of this.” He says, shaking his leg as the pants float and toss around his ankles, I throw my head back and laugh.  Taking him in fully, his chest hair poke out from the v-neck and the suit covered the rest of him tightly.  He looked both hot and ridicules.  
“Yes, please do.” I say, but take his hand and twirl him.  He twirls with a blush, doing a little dance with his shoulders as he does.  He stumbles slightly and I steady him, low and behold he was wearing platforms too. I can’t help but laugh once more. “But keep the get up, yeah?  Not too shabby, Mr.Remus Lupin.” I take on the tone of Dumbledore at the end and he laughs.  
“See you in first period?” He asks, anxiety slipping through his voice again.  It was still weird for us to be talking again, yet all too natural.
“Of course not, when have I ever seen you in the class we share together?” He rolls his eyes at my sarcasm, but doesn’t bother to fight his huge smile, the same one that hasn’t left his face since we danced atop the table. 
“I embarrass myself in front of the whole bloody school and ya still have all that sass. Guess we’ll have to fix that later then.” He says, suggestively winking.  I laugh and push him towards the great hall doors, we were some of the few people still there.
“Don’t try and seduce me dressed as Benny Andersson, and especially when I’m still mad at you.  Cause I am still mad at you, ya know?” I say, our moods sobering slightly.  He smiles sadly.
“I know,’ He says, sighing he glances back at boys who are already walking up the stairs, ready to change and beyond waiting with how many people are taking pictures and laughing. “But I will make it up to you, I promise.”  He gives me one last smile before turning around and racing up the stairs.
I smile to myself and shake my head, re-playing the events in my mind and reminding myself to ask for some of those moving pictures of the boys.  I meet up with Lily and together we walk to class, we can’t shut up about what happened. 
 Several times we’ve recounted it to one another and made so many jokes we were crying with laughter by the time we reached class.  She left me by the door, to make her way to her class not too far from mine.  While I waited for Remus and the other boys to walk through the door I pulled out the note Remus gave me and read the contents.
Dear (y/n),
At 8 tonight make your way over to Hagrid’s hut.  He’s always had an abundance of creature around there.  
All my love to you,
Remus
I tucked the note away with curiosity bubbling all throughout me until I had to bounce my leg in an attempt to calm myself down.  I’ve went through far to much emotion in this short morning.  This day will go by slowly I take it.
Suddenly, Minnie walks through the door to personally inform our teacher that Remus, Sirius and James will not be attending this morning.  Part of their punishment requires them elsewhere. I sigh and slump in my chair, a long day indeed.

**1.**Punching Gilgamesh the moment you are summoned/enter a fight/enter a room is not reasonable and should not be done at any time -Gudao
1a. Not even when he barges into the Camelot Room and threatens to everyone, especially when he does it to make your female counterpart marry her -Gudao
1b. Apparently PTSD is not a viable excuse to punch someone when you see him harassing someone. Noted.
2. Just because I am a King, does not mean I can give people nicknames. Makes me wonder how Gareth felt about being called Best Boy by Merlin.
3. Eating contests are apparently not allowed, seems food shortages are common with my counterparts.
4. As it turns out, screaming "To Valhalla" is not the best idea when you step onto Iskandar's Chariot. Especially so when you are right in front of the enemy.
5. Frankenstein is not a doll, do not dress her up. No Arthur, not even if she tilts her head and makes cute growls -Gudao 5a. Okay! Only if its a sundress! -Gudao
6. Getting together four of my other counterparts and forming the Saber Rangers is not allowed, especially if we have Excalizords. Seems the other servants aren't fond of needlessly big robots that take too long to combine.
7. Motorbikes are not to be used at any point or time in Chaldea, no, not even when Iskandar decides to hold the "Chaldea Grand Prix" -Da Vinci

15. Proving that I am male by either fighting or pantsing myself is no longer allowed after Heracles decided to do the same thing when a recently summoned Shakespeare made him question his own gender -Da Vinci
15a. Having the entire male team to pants themselves in front of the enemy is not a viable tactic against Archers, no matter what you watched beforehand and despite how fun it is -Robinhood
16. Just because Merlin suggested it, I shouldn't instantly do it. Its odd, almost like no one trusts Merlin, he seems just like my one.

But I was wondering if you could write Diego x reader, where she meets his siblings for the first time, and at first it’s kinda awkward, but then they get more comfortable and maybe just like fluff after when they get back home? It might be totally stupid but idk. I love your writing!💕💕
A/N: Babe, it’s totally not stupid at all. Meeting the family shenanigans is basically the perfect trope for this show.  Sort of accidentally ended up a sequel to this fic, so I ran with it.  Word Count: 1678 Content Warnings: Season 2 spoilers
“Are you sure you want to do this, Y/N?” Diego asked, gripping your hand tightly as the two of you walked toward the restaurant. “It’s not too late for us to just leave.”
“Diego Hargreeves, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you didn’t want me to meet your family,” you teased, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. “It’s one dinner, it’ll be okay.”
“You say that now,” he muttered and you rolled your eyes affectionately in response before pulling open the door and walking inside.
When you gave your names to the hostess, she smiled brightly and told you that the rest of your party was already waiting for you, before leading you to a large table in a private room off the main dining area. Four pairs of eyes turned to you appraisingly. You swallowed nervously and put on a smile of you own.
“Hi everyone, sorry we’re late,” you said, taking one of the two empty seats, somewhat awkwardly as Diego still refused to let go of your hand. “Someone didn’t believe me that traffic was going to be a nightmare on a Friday night.”
One of the women at the table, who you vaguely recognized from a cheesy romance playing on late-night cable and therefore deduced was Allison smiled in a way that felt indulgent and false; it didn’t quite reach her eyes; it was rehearsed.
“Oh he never listens to anybody, don’t take it personally, Y/N,” the smaller of the two men said, stretching across the table and offering you a broad grin and a hand with the word hello tattooed on it. “I’m Klaus, and you’re the gorgeous creature my brother’s decided to shack up with, huh?”
You couldn’t help but giggle at his greeting, shaking his hand politely while Diego glared. “Nice to meet you Klaus,” you said with a smile.
“You know, I already like you better than his last two girlfriends. You haven’t tried to arrest or kill me!”
“Sorry what? Is that a joke?” you frowned in confusion as you let go of his hand and leaned back, glancing over at Diego to see his tight jaw and stony face, clear indications that he was upset.
You hand sought his under the table and you gave it a gentle squeeze, drawing his gaze to you and smiling at him.
‘It’s all good, relax,’ you mouthed.
“No I’m deadly serious,” Klaus continued. “For a while he was with this lady cop on-again/off-again style and she’d arrest me for drugs when she caught me around. Until she was tragically murdered by time-travelling assassins who kidnapped me looking for Five. Then while we were in the 60s, he fell for this girl from the nuthouse who turned out to be a plant and totally tried to kill us!” He gave a pained little chuckle, as if to say, ‘can you believe that?’
You stared at him, open-mouthed and aghast.
“Ignore Klaus, he’s never known when to shut up a day in his life,” the woman you had first noticed said. “I’m Allison.”
Klaus shot her a look that somehow combined a pout and a glare, but fell silent. You felt some of the tension sink out of Diego beside you, though he still didn’t seem comfortable. You smiled at her.
“It’s really nice to meet you,” you said, still trying to shake off the information Klaus had given (which seemed to line up with what the small, angry brother who was oddly not at dinner had said, and was far too much to actually process at the moment).
You turned to the two who hadn’t yet spoken. “So you must be Luther and Vanya?”
The man nodded, shifting in his seat and giving you an awkward little wave. The other woman glowered at you and said nothing. You frowned, wondering what you had done to earn her ire already.
Allison cleared her throat. “We ordered some bruschetta and sangria for the table before you arrived.”
The rest of dinner passed in much the same way as those first moments: Luther was mostly silent and clearly uncomfortable (whether with your presence or very fact of being out in public seemed unclear) but he started to relax and warm up as the evening went on, even once or twice sharing a stiff joke; Vanya was cold, barely responsive to your attempts to engage with her; Allison tried to play the hostess and keep topics light and small-talk-esque, breaking long silences with new conversations, obviously trying her best but ultimately resulting in a stilted performance; Klaus blurted out evidently whatever thoughts passed through his mind, usually bizarre and outlandish, sometimes profound and deeply sad. It was like none of them knew how to be normal people or have dinner with their sibling’s significant other, or an average conversation and you couldn’t help but feel oddly warmed by that, but the fact that they were so…human.
You did your best to keep up with all of them, appreciating Allison’s best efforts, laughing at some of Klaus’s jokes or countering his philosophical points, trying not to call too much attention to Luther or make him feel put on the spot. Diego felt his heart swell with pride at how well you did, and how you took everything in stride, even as the minutes seemed to drag on and he started to fear that dinner would never end.
The only thing that kept rankling at you was Vanya’s attitude, so when she got up to go to the bathroom, you excused yourself as well, cornering her in the hall of the restaurant.
“Hey, no offense, but what the hell is your problem with me?” you asked, tilting your head to one side, more curiosity than animosity in your tone.
She rolled her eyes, trying to push past you, but you resolutely blocked her path.
“I know I’m dating Diego and there’s like a whole weird history there or whatever, but don’t I at least deserve a chance before you decide to treat me like the devil?”
She sighed, shaking her head. “It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?”                                        
“You seem nice, and you’re…normal. Our family doesn’t do well with that,” she explained, folding her arms over her chest. “I don’t want to do the whole friendly, welcome to the family or whatever bullshit. Cus you’re either going to turn out not actually normal and screw us over, or you’re going to turn out actually normal and get hurt or bail before you do.”
You stared at her for a long, silent moment.
“I’m not going anywhere. I love Diego, and I think for all that they’re weird, I like your family a lot.”
“You say that for now, but we’ll see.”
“If there’s really no way for me to change your mind, fine, but maybe the reason people leave is just because you shove them away.”
You turned and returned to the table with that, not giving her a chance to respond. You still weren’t thrilled, but at least you felt like you understood her better now, and she seemed to soften toward you at least a little for the rest of the evening.
By the time the check came (a check you noticed that Allison picked up without even glancing at the numbers) you felt like you had really gotten to know Diego’s siblings, and seen a different side of him as he slowly loosened up around them.
As you all got up to leave, it became a chain of “it was nice to meet you”s and “we should do this again”s. Allison moved in for a hug and you returned it happily enough. Luther patted you on the shoulder awkwardly, his big hand enveloping it as if you were a child, surprising you with his size more close up than the other end of the table. Klaus moved as if to follow you home, and then pouted much like a stray puppy when Diego gave him a stern look that communicated without words that he was not allowed to do so. Then he turned to you and hugged you. But where Allison’s was polite and somewhat formal, Klaus’s was anything but, his long limbs folding around you and his chin resting on your shoulder.
“It was sooo good to meet you,” he purred in your ear. “And I’m glad Diego found you.” He pulled back to look you in the eye, his hands still resting on your upper arms. “I mean it. You’re good for him. Take care of him.”
“I will,” you said with a smile. “And you take care of yourself.”
Vanya offered you a polite nod, and you took what you could get.

“Y/N, I’m so sorry about tonight,” Diego sighed, running his fingers through his hair as he sank down onto the couch.
“What are you talking about D? It was fine.” You hung your coat on one of the pegs near the door and then, with a roll of your eyes, picked up his from where he’d tossed it on the floor and hung it as well.
“It was torture. In fact I think I’d rather be tortured.”
“I mean sure it was awkward, and your family’s a little weird, but I knew going in not to expect anything else.”
“It didn’t make you regret the day you ever met me?”
You dropped onto the couch next to him, leaning into his side and tilting your head to kiss him, smiling against his mouth.
“I could never regret that babe.”
His arm circled your shoulders, drawing you closer as he returned your kiss fervently. He groaned as you pressed against him and ran your tongue over his lower lip, opening up to invite you in. It wasn’t often that he let you take the lead, so you took full advantage while you could, pressing him back against the cushions and straddling his lap, running your hands through his hair.
“Besides,” you said, pulling back to smile teasingly. “Now I won’t feel so bad when you meet my family.”

When one read the comic books, being a teenage hero was a helluva lot easier than it was.
Spiderman didn’t have to watch his grades gradually plummet with each “emergency” meeting the Avengers set up for him. Nor did he have to turn in half finished homework because he forgot to do it when he ran off to handle a Behemoth of a beast. It was smooth sails for the likes of some friendly neighborhood vigilante.
Badd wished it was that simple.
He couldn’t complain it was all that rough. Kids at school knew of his devestating strength, so much so that a few would text him about a monster nearby. At times, he’d handle a monster in exchange for a free tutoring session for a class he was struggling in. It was a fair exchange, a life for a decent test grade.
Some people at school would greet him, but he was hardly popular. If anything, he was just as good as company as a cardboard cut out. Someone to briefly pause what he was doing to stoically pose for a photo-op. Though, some people just assumed he wasn’t as friendly as the stature he put on.
“Badd, right?”
His brow arched, momentarily breaking the signature snarl he naturally adorned (it wasn’t a scowl, it was just his face). The voice came from a girl who’s face was speckled with a constellation of freckles. He knew of her, that she was a new transfer student from H-City, but he never got to know who she really was.
“Ya know anyone else that looks like me?”
“Yeah,” the girl remarked, “hate to say it but a pompadour isn’t exactly a unique feat of yours.” Despite his frown, she went on to resume, “I was gonna ask if you had a spare hair tie.”
Out of all the things she could have asked him to do, she asked for a meager hair tie. She might as well have asked a practical mountain of a man to do her makeup. What an odd thing to ask, “how the hell do ya know I even have one??”
What should have been a snide remark about how he always had a spare hair tie for his little sister was accented with a shrug, “The girls in my track team say you do. I don’t mind using my shoelaces though—!”
“Ya can do that??” He implored as he surrendered the hair tie that was nestled within his pants pocket, “wouldn’t it be flying out of yer hair or somethin’ ?”
“You just have to know how to tie it,” after she briefly gave her thanks, she secured her dark hair within a high-ponytail. After a beat, she made a full presentation of the bun atop of her crown. “Ta-da! How does it look?”
“Like a pineapple.”
What insult would have made girls scoff or bark out a bigger insult at him only prompted a wrinkle from the girl’s nose as she laughed. Her grin radiant, almost contagious for a guy renowned for his intimidating glare. It didn’t take the girl long to skip back to her team—‘thanks Badd!’ She would chirp over her shoulder—and he offered a small wave of goodbye to her.
To say it had been the last time they spoke would have been a blatant lie. The girl, who’s name was revealed to be Hikari, would be variant in her greetings. Some days would just be utter small talk: ‘how are you?’ ‘Fine, you?’ ‘Could be better,’ and other days would be exclusively full of excitement. Most notably were they the days that she had just finished her track season or after practice:
“—what I’m saying is that Ayame started acting funny when she dropped the baton,” Hikari said as the two of them sat along the edge of the rooftop during lunch. Her brows furrowed as she plucked a piece of grilled salmon out of her bento box and set it over for Badd to eat.
“Ya still won though, right?”
“Yeah, but it was like something startled her? I can’t say what exactly, but she got a little frazzled after the tournament,” she hummed as she pursed her lips, “maybe ‘m overthinking it.”
“Ya gotta bad habit of that,” he quipped as he took a bite of the surrendered salmon, “she prolly jumped cus she dropped it.”
As it turned out, that wasn’t wholly the case.
The more he talked to Hikari throughout the months in school, the more exposure he got from Ayame. How she often would ask for one of her friends to come with her to the bathroom or how she would stay longer than an hour or two after practice. He wasn’t a psychologist, but Hikari’s concern became more understandable.
Once he was invited to eat lunch with Hikari and her track team, that was when he met Ayame.
As always, Hikari was rather jovial with introductions. Her excitability practically lightened the mood, even when some girls felt a little unnerved to be around a guy who could easily crush a monster’s skull with an indestructible weapon. Those girls he left very well alone for their comfort. The others were met with his gruff nature, he wasn’t sure whether Hikari told them he had a soft spot or not, but Ayame was the one who stood out the most.
The girl was kind and soft-spoken. She loved talking about her cat named Sakusa and she couldn’t help but find pictures of Tama to be an absolute delight. Though, Badd couldn’t lie, Sakusa was just as adorable.
The thing was she couldn’t afford to look him in the eye, nor could she barely manage a tone beyond a small murmur. When Badd would growl out a ‘huh??’ over a mean jest, she would flinch instinctively. Such a response evoked a small ‘sorry’ from the bat-wielding hero.
Lunch became rather awkward between them after that. Fortune came in Hikari’s emotional intelligence, otherwise Badd would have tried to make some means of dramatic compensation. He picked up a giant bouquet of roses for Zenko’s concert when he missed her piano recital once.
It wasn’t until school was no longer in session that he caught a glimpse of Ayame retreat to an older man. Her arms folded across her chest, though the heightened bark of the man made her flinch once more.
The man could have blended in well with the white collar types: nicely trimmed suit, slick back hair and an expensive pair of gloves that would have made Amai Mask green with envy. Their insignia was rather reminiscent to a bamboo lily.
He didn’t just have money, he had money to buy himself out of consequences.
By now, the grip around his signature bat became rigid in a white-knuckled grasp. His storm merely accented with a twirl of his instrument to rest atop of his broad shoulder.
“—and I told you to do the dishes!” The older man exasperatingly barked, “the hell were you doing??”
“I just...” Ayame paused as she shuffled closer to the masonry, “I h-had practice okay? It’s not a big deal—“
“It is a big deal!” His voice was now a tornado that swam tension within the air. His face was beet red and his fists practically quivered from the intensity of his own storm, “I had my fuckin’ brother over and—!”
Without a hint of hesitance, Badd rammed the hilt of his bat directly into the man’s diaphragm. The sheer velocity of his strength evoked a shriek from Ayame and a wheeze from the stranger. Had he known he shattered a rib or two, he probably would have offered a menacing simper.
“Do Yer own damn dishes next time,” when the man attempted to scramble to his full height, Badd hadn’t hesitated to step in front of Ayame. It wasn’t everyday he handled an abusive shithead, but they were marginally easier to handle than a stray papermache volcano come to life.
As the man scowled, his glare dripped over to Ayame, “this isn’t over—!” Once the threat had seeped, Badd simply let his metallic instrument slam into the concrete. A cobweb of weight bloomed under the strain.
“You bet Yer ass it is,”
This was a monster, no doubt, but he had heard from Daichi that some monsters liked to isolate their victims. Norte dam syndrome or something like that. As soon as the man retreated, Ayame began to present signs and symptoms of that.
“He wasn’t going to hurt me,” her voice was distant compared to the staggering man who retreated with a very polite warning. “He was just being an ass, okay? You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know what bein’ an ass is,” Badd scoffed, “and that wasn’t it.”
Being an ass meant Hikari poking fun of Badd crying in the middle of Zenko’s piano performance or Badd poking fun of Hikari not knowing how to do algebra, but being able to chemistry. Neither of them would have dared to clench their fist at the other, let alone make the other flinch in response.
Ayame only shook her head, “no, he just... he didn’t mean it.”
“ ‘s that what he tells ya?”
“Of course not, I—“ she sighed, her small shoulders slumped when she practically hung her head, “look, I know you’re supposed to be a hero, but he’s just a guy. You must have bigger priorities, right?”
Bigger priorities meaning bigger monsters; nothing like the abusive asshole nextdoor. Badd couldn’t help but wonder if that was really what being a hero meant to these people, that they were just as fictional as their comic book alternatives.
Whether the answer was blatant or not, it didn’t matter, “I don’t want ya gettin’ hurt, so call Hikari and stay with her, alright?”
“W-What are you gonna do??”
Badd simply unbuttoned his uniform jacket and let it draped over his shoulders.“ ‘m gonna go be a hero.”

It was a slow day at the notorious deadman detective agency. The gentle hum of the fan being the only company the detective had, among the various files of cold cases he tried to decipher in his day off. He didn’t mind the breaks, rather he milked them as often as he could, but they could be rather tedious at times.
Fortunately, his answer came in the form of his phone vibrating against the table. The caller ID consisted of a simple “Badd”. Chances were that the kid needed someone to pick up his sister or ask about homework he didn’t understand.
“Well, good afternoon to you too,” Daichi hummed leisurely.
“Ay, real quick!” If Badd hadn’t been huffing so much, he wouldn’t have assumed the intensity of the situation required a running start, “ya know anyone who’s got a flower on their gloves?”
There was a pregnant pause when Daichi tucked the phone along his shoulder. What sprawled evidence files had been tucked into their respective cabinet drawers, yet there wasn’t anything that could have resembled a nondescript flower. Aside from the insignia a murderer had carved into the wood of his victim’s furniture.
“What kind of flower was it?”
“Iunno??” Badd grunted, seemingly vaulting himself over a fence from how the chains rattled under his weight, “like a Lily or somethin’ ??”
Had his blood not been lethargic like tar, it would have ran glacial through his veins. He never quite noticed how reminiscent it was to a lilac flower, only that it was scrawled and messy. Though, it would have been a bold assumption to make Badd would keep him alive, “You’re planning on going after him, aren’t you?”
“Yep!”
He figured.
Hastily did Daichi retrieve his beige coat and slid his arms through the sleeves, “don’t do anything like kill him. I’ve been looking into cases like—!”
“Ah, I gotta go. I think I see him!”
“Badd, wait-! Wait, did you hear—?!” When the line was cut off to evoke a triad of monotonous beeps, Zombieman hissed a curse under his breath when he rushed to grab his keys and head to C-City. He didn’t even bother to shelf his evidence back when he bolted out the door.
Kids, he swore...

oh hello. just a little something, something. this will have a part two. hence this one being called Black Daytime while the other will be called Black Nighttime whenever it gets shared. i know there isn’t much development in terms of story plot and the love lines, but this is more for me to enjoy writing what i’ve been working on and not being able to coherently shared it further as a chaptered story. so hopefully y’all can just bear with this and see it as its own standalone story of sorts. but yeah, happy reading and kthxbai, Admin Lia~
"Whenever was there a performance stage part of the Black Day Festival?" Serena asked once she and the other three were inside the Student Council room to change into their performing outfits.
"I honestly don't remember having one last year or the year  before that."
"They actually added it this year." Katherine answered while putting on her black glittering wings. "Said it didn't feel right that the others had one, but none for Black Day."
Serena sighed.
"And how did I let y'all get me involved with this stuff again?"
"Free food." The other three chorused with a giggle following afterwards.
Serena scoffed although she knew it was the truth, but still complained.
"Why is everything so early though."
Melanie rolled her eyes.
"Everything is too early for you."
Serena nodded already agreeing with her sister's words.
"I'm pretty sure it was on the fence for a while though."
Jasmine mentioned as she put on her long black wig and adjusted it to her liking.
"Like they've been getting a lot of feedback about wanting a performance stage since both the Red Day Festival and White Day Festival got it over the years. Before it wasn't such an issue since the Black Day Festival is a whole day event whereas the other two were just until three or something. Anwyays, the Student Council decided to finally have one this year for the Black Day Festival."
"That makes sense." Melanie said with a nod while applying black lipstick to her lips. "I remember Gina talking about it this school year, but not really sure if she wanted to do it or not since they still had to get the approval from the administration."
"Well, yeah, whatever. Still here we are like always."
Serena sighed as she situated the black eye mask with green accents to her satisfaction.
"It's not a bad thing, but aren't there like other better singers and performers that could do this?"
"There are some better people to do this." Gina answered with a gleeful tone as she entered the room.
"So why not ask them?"
Serena scowled.
"I get a deal with Jasmine and Katherine who actually like doing this and get two more that'll always tag along to help."
"Haha, guilty." The twins answered. "We do."
Melanie laughed before looking at Gina.
"So what's our name this time around and what songs are we doing?"
The Black Day Festival had two parts which were for the day, Black Daytime and the night, Black Nighttime. Daytime events differed just a little bit from Nighttime. There was a jjajangmyeon eating contest that settled in the semi-final round at night. If not eating then you could make your own jjajangmyeon. The Student Council also had a booth selling solo merchandises at discounted prices created by the students and those in the artistic club, but then it was discounted even more later that night. There was also a salon-like area where you can get your nails and make-up done, once again by students studying cosmetology.
Another area where you can design shirts and a photo-booth where you can take pictures with various props. This year the Student Council announced two new segments to the festival which were much anticipated. They were the Solo Karaoke which was right after the Black Love Stage event the quartet had been roped in to doing as well like the other events before. The only difference was that at night they held a speed-dating event, a solo dining, and a designated lounge to chill or rant compare to the morning which didn't offer the three at all.
"Hello everyone!" Demian, a student council member that was in charge of the Black Day Festival event, announced excitedly.
Those in the quad that was present for the stage section cheered loudly as the others were about the campus participating in the other events.
"This year we're introducing the Solo Karaoke for the first time as well as the awesome Black Love Stage!" Demian announced with excitement.
"Before we allow the rest of you to sing to your heart's desire, we actually have our special guest coming out to perform for you guys."
Demian motioned to the other end of the makeshift stage where Serena, Melanie, Katherine, and Jasmine appeared in their get-up to stand alongside the male.
"This time around please give a warm welcome to Fallen Angels who will perform for us to acknowledged this new segment to the Black Day Festival." Demian said as he began clapping to lead the others to do the same before talking.
"Once these wonderful ladies are done then do we began the actual karaoke. So, please anticipate Fallen Angels' performance!"
Demian walked off while wishing the four good luck as Jasmine started the ment like always.
"Hello everyone. One, two..." She started while looking at the other three.
"We're Fallen Angels!"
They finished as a group with a bow before righting themselves as they introduced themselves with new stage names starting with Melanie, then Katherine, next by Serena, and ending with Jasmine.
"I'm Lady Gluttony."
"I'm Lady Sloth."
"I'm Lady Wrath."
"And I'm Lady Vanity."
There were some cheered before Jasmine continuing to speak.
"It's an absolute honored to be up here to acknowledged this new segment of the Black Love Stage to the Black Day Festival. So we hope you enjoy our performances and please watch over us kindly."
The crowd cheered and Jasmine waited until they quieted down before introducing the first song.
"So first off, the first song we'll be singing for you is It Hurts. This is dedicated to those that are still suffering from being hurt recently or in the past."
The group stood in their place as they waited for the song to start as Kyle cued them in with Katherine's voice starting off the song. Once that song came to an end did Serena introduce the next song after they took a few moments to catch their breaths and drink some water.
"This next song is One By One." Serena introduced. "And it's dedicated to those that wished for a love one to comeback to them or return to a time when love felt right."
The quatet rotated positions whenever another person sang their new line as Serena started singing first. One By One ended and Melanie spoke next after taking a break.
"The next song, What Do You Know, is dedicated to those that had broken up with their significant other without understanding why they ended up like that."
Jasmine started the song with the talking part before Melanie actually sang the first verse. They once again kept the lyrics the way they were as the song was sung by both female and male. When the song came to an end the quartet took another moment to catch their breaths and drink some water. After doing that did Katherine speak next.
"Alright, now we're actually gonna dance and sing for y'all." Katherine announced with a laugh. "This goes out to those that were placed second and wished to continued be by their special someone's side and can't leave. This is Black Tinkerbell."
The girls got into their poses before Serena sang first then started moving afterwards. Once the song ended, the quartet took a breather, drank some water, and Serena introduced the fourth song. For some reason they were using more energy than the last two festivals.
"The next song is for those that backed off from a relationship that wasn't going anywhere despite loving the person sincerely."
Melanie spoke.
"I hope you enjoy our performance of I'll Back Off So You Can Live Better."
When the song began it was Melanie who started the song and even though the twins loved doing this, the other pair of sisters didn't mind and were enjoying it just as much. The quartet momentarily forgot their worries and other things in life as they performed for others in their disguise. Anyways, when the song came to an end the four took another break before Katherine did the next talking ment.
"Hope all of you are enjoying everything so far for Black Daytime. The next song is I (Knew It). This goes out to those that don't want to deal with love again so that there's no pain. Enjoy!"
Fallen Angels got into formation and perform a new arrangement to fit their group of four compare to the original. The song came to an end and the girls once again took a moment for drinks and a breather. Jasmine spoke to announce their final stage.
"I hope you all have enjoyed our stages so far and the event itself if you got around to it. Unfortunately this will be our last performance before Solo Karaoke officially begins."
The crowd booed at the fact as Fallen Angels chuckled. Jasmine continued speaking.
"Anyways, thank you Haru for always making us look presentable, Kyle for timing us right, Demian for hosting Black Daytime by himself, and everyone else that made the first part of Black Day Festival a success."
The quartet clapped in appreciation as the crowd cheered. Jasmine spoke again when it calmed down.
"So yeah, this last song is us going back to a slow mood and this song is dedicated to those that wished it never ended or that it could've been different. So please enjoy, Goodnight Like Yesterday!"
The quartet once again got into formation as they enjoyed their last performance although they had to change the pitch to accommodate their vocal range compare to the original. When it ended the girls lined up to bow and bid the crowd goodbye as their final moment as Fallen Angels.
"One, two..." Jasmine began as they finished as a group, "This was Fallen Angels. Thank you!"
Demian came back on stage while clapping and speaking at the same time.
"Thank you so much, Fallen Angels! Please give these lovely ladies a warm round of applause!"
The crowd did just that as Demian took center stage while motioning towards the quartet.
"Thank you once again, Fallen Angels, for your wonderful performances! Please enjoy the rest of the festival."
Demian motioned to the side to indicate for them that they were free to go. The girls bowed to him in thanks before rushing off the makeshift stage as Demian began explaining how the Solo Karaoke was going to work for the remainder of the event. The pair of sisters returned to the student council room to change out of their outfits and back to their usual wear.
"So, what are we doing for Daytime?" Katherine asked the others as they wandered around the campus of Seoul University not really sure which of the events to participate in.
"Wait, don't we have to decorate the gymnasium later at four for the Nighttime part?" Serena inquired a moment later.
"Mmhmm." The trio hummed as Serena sighed deeply.
"Let's grab some jjajangmyeon. I'm hungry." Melanie suggested. "I heard that Lulu and Cheska are running the booth so they can hook us up."
"I'm down. We can even make shirts, too." Jasmine agreed. "Yeji promised me a shirt this year."
"She promised me one, too." Katherine mentioned with a slight chuckle. "She said she'll get a baggy purple shirt ready for me this year."
"Well, at least she knows you like your shirts baggy." Jasmine mused as Katherine chuckled in agreement.
"I wondered what kinda of items they're selling this year though." Melanie said. "I hope they have more designs this year."
"Not sure, but Gina said that the designs are a lot better this year as Dia and Yumi over saw the designs compare to last year's designers who came up with them last minute." Katherine answered.
"I would hope so. Last year's design was very basic and didn't sell that well that they had to marked them down." Serena said with a frown. "I remember one of them were trying to sell it for a lot more than it should've been."
"Okay. So what are we doing first or are we splitting up instead?" Jasmine asked once they quieted down from their chatter.
"This is too salty for me." Serena admitted and handed her small portioned cup to her sister.
The pair were walking around the campus after having split up from the twins. Melanie eyed her sister while taking Serena's cup.
"Then why did you lie to the girls?"
"I didn't want to hurt their feelings."
Melanie rolled her eyes, but continued to eat the dark noodles.
"Anyways, I need something to dri-"
Serena was interrupted when she and Melanie heard their name being shouted from behind them.
"Yo! Serena! Melanie! Over here."
"Oh, it's Mark. Let's go."
Melanie urged Serena to head towards their friend.
"Watermelon slush?"
Mark offered the pair each a cool and refreshing drink of said item.
"Of course you would have the watermelon flavor." Serena commented with a laugh as Mark chuckled.
"Yeah, well, Sungchan, YangYang, Shotaro, and I made it. So it's not just me."
Each one took the offered drinks.
"Wow, that's good." Serena complimented.
"And thankfully helpful."
"Thank you!"
Mark beamed happily.
"Thank you!"
He handed each of them a small package of a cake pie.
"What's this? Serena inquired while staring at it.
"Just some extra snacks. I can take it back if you don't want it."
"No. It's mine now. Thanks."
"Welcome."
"Anyways, I didn't know you guys were allowed to have a booth. I thought it was only just Student Council members." Melanie commented after drinking.
"Me either. Hansol and Taeyong just told us that we would be setting up a booth since yesterday."
"So it's just you four running it?" Serena asked with Mark shaking his head.
"No. Besides the four of us there's also Jaehyun, Hendery, Taeil, and Haechan."
Just then Jaehyun came by with two more drinks.
"Hello, ladies." He greeted them with a charming smile as he stood next to Mark.
Serena swore she saw Melanie swoon inside, but didn't comment.
"Y'all wanna try a peach and mango slush?" Jaehyun offered a moment later. "Had some extra left over."
"Sure!" Melanie happily responded as she took one of the darkish orange drink.
"Thanks."
Serena took the other. Both sisters were impressed by the taste.
"Wow, that's actually pretty good."
Melanie shot the two males an impressive look.
"This booth will definitely be a hit."
"Oh, we've made more than what we initially thought."
"Nice." Serena commented also impressed. "What are you guys raising the money for?"
"Besides giving half to the Student Council's funding, NCT's gonna use it for our end of the school year's event."
"And what is that?" Melanie inquired.
"Secret for now."
Mark grinned before directing the conversation.
"Anyways, will you guys be participating in Nighttime, too?"
"No."
Both replied at the same time.
"But we'll be helping in decorating for it though."
Melanie informed more.
"All that's too bad." 
Mark shot them a slight frown.
"We're gonna be a part of it."
"Why?" Serena questioned. "What for?"
Before Mark could answer the sisters were ushered away by the twins who both happened to at the same booth, but on the other side to head on over to the gymnasium to decorate early. Something about last minute changes that Gina had contacted the twins about since the other pair didn't answered their phones.
"Ah, well, gotta go. See ya when I see ya." Serena and Melanie bid the two goodbyes before walking off with the twins.
"Thank you girls for always helping us out." Christine, the Vice President of the Student Council, thanked the quartet.
"Especially for earlier today and now for the night event of it."
"You're welcome." The quartet chimed with smiles.
"I mean, it's nothing new." Jasmine commented with a laugh. "We're used to it."
"True. Well, everyone in Student Council knows, too, so thank you." Christine thanked them once more before giving them a playful look.
"Luckily it was just for this morning." Serena said with a relieved tone.
"Or so you think." Christine muttered with a secretive smile.
"What was that?"
"I wished I could've seen it."
Christine covered it up with something else with a sweet look.
"I'm sure Gina has a video of it like always." Katherine stated with Jasmine agreeing. "She always does and so you should be able to watch it."
"Oh, I will."
"Christine!"
Someone called out for the Vice President and the quintet turned their attention to see a male coming up to them.
"Oh, Seoljun. Hey. What's up?"
"Simon and Mint need help with the jjajangmyeon for the semi-finalists since it was labeled incorrectly when they moved it over. We don't know where Chunglim is. Selin and Daniel forgot what the final prices for the rest of the discounted merchandises were supposed to be."
"Alright. Thank you. Just make sure to hand these four their envelopes."
Christine handed Seoljun four black envelopes.
"Will do."
"Wait, what envelopes?" Serena asked suspiciously.
Christine chuckled with a indifferent shrug before walking off and waving goodbye. The quartet turned their attention onto Seoljun who cast them a reassuring smile.
"If anything is incorrect, then please let me know and I can let Liyin or Sorin fix it before the Nighttime event takes place."
He handed each one a small black envelope.
"What's this for?" Melanie asked while taking the envelope.
"Please don't tell me that Gina signed us up for something tonight, too? Please let it not be for real." Serena pleaded hopefully as she opened to see the contents.
"I'm just the messenger." Seoljun answered with a sheepish laugh. "So, does it all look right?"
The four read the content and realized they were participants in the speed dating event later tonight. Seoljun saw their expressions and held up his hands in defense.
"I'm just the messenger and I'm only in charge of the arts and crafts with Seolhwa."
"Do you know anything about the speed-dating event then?" Jasmine asked as Seoljun nodded.
"Okay, so who's in charge of it?" Katherine asked next.
"Sorin and Liyin."
"What can you tell us about it?" Melanie inquired as Seoljun relaxed.
"Well, the girls are the ones who's seated this year and the boys are the ones rotating."
"But I thought only those that didn't get any gifts from the Red and White festivals were able to participate." Serena reasoned. "Right? And those that actually wanted to sign up and join, yeah?"
"Yes, that's right, but those who are also single still can pariticpate for this." Seoljun explained. "So it fits the criteria or requirement."
"Of course it fits." Serena muttered loudly, but reluctantly accepting it. "Mine's all good."
"Mine, too." The other three informed with bigger smiles than Serena's.
"Do you need it back?" Jasmine asked as she was about to hand hers over.
"No. You guys keep it. It's supposed to be your name placard when the event starts or something like that. Sorin and Liyin will let you guys know for sure when it begins."
Seoljun informed them with a smile while looking at the other three.
"Other than that, is everything else good?"
"For now." Serena commented as the others chuckled.
"Yeah, we're good. We just need to finish setting up here first before heading on over to Liyin and Sorin for further inquires." Melanie answered.
"Okay, cool. I'll let those two know and thanks for helping us out."
"No problem."
"Oh wait." Seoljun said as he remembered something while turning to face the quartet. "One more thing."
The four looked at him unexpectedly as he handed them a piece of white paper before reminding them that he was just the messenger and quickly walked away. Serena groaned upon learning that they were also going to perform for the Nighttime's new segment, Dark Love Stage.

Roguish Women Part 16
Summary: Kate Rosseau is an American who fled to Paris to escape her past life. Now she's dancing and playing the part of a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge. There she meets Tommy Shelby who thinks she can be useful in expanding his empire. But has he been blinded?
Part 15: Tommy doesn’t tell Kate, Kate dreams of being on stage again.

           Kate didn’t remember what she said to Tommy. In fact, she didn’t remember leaving the Garrison. Perhaps it was a good thing to know that she didn’t have many reservations about getting blackout drunk with the Shelbys at their establishment. It just reinforced the idea that she trusted them. And trust was not easy to come by.
Still, she didn’t remember what she’d said. And Tommy didn’t tell her.
He was sitting downstairs in the kitchen when Kate came downstairs wearing the same dress she had on the night before. She didn’t look pleased with the hangover she was sporting.
“Tea?” Tommy offered.
“No, thanks.” She sat down at the table and took out a cigarette instead.
He simply turned the page of his newspaper, partially hiding his face behind it. He couldn’t be certain how much she remembered. Although she was certainly out of it, at the time that didn’t mean she forgot. Besides, Tommy didn’t want to mention it if she had forgotten and it was simply a mistake. Maybe he’d misheard her or she was just spouting nonsense. That was a convenient answer, one he held onto because he wasn’t willing to explore what he felt deeper. If he did, he was afraid of what he might find. Nevertheless, it would complicate things. So he chose not to bring it up.
“Did you come to the Garrison last night?” Kate asked.
“No, John brought you here. You weren’t making much sense.” He replied trying to sound nonchalant as if to portray the idea that she hadn’t said anything that bothered him or meant anything, to begin with.
It reassured Kate and she didn’t suspect he was hiding anything from her based on his demeanor. Of course, when she woke up at Six Watery Lane, she was horrified that she’d done something foolish. Perhaps she showed up at Tommy’s doorstep declaring her true feelings for him. How embarrassing that would be.

It had been quite some time since Kate had been in a legitimate ballet company. Not since she’d been in the States. And it had been a while since she’d been in a studio or any sort of suitable practice space. The thing about Birmingham and London was it all felt so cramped. There wasn’t enough room to do much of anything. Still, Kate did her best to stretch and keep herself somewhat in a condition to dance again. Maybe it was blind hope that she would one day find herself back on stage.
Back to that feeling that had escaped her for so long. Something that couldn’t be replicated. It was the closest thing she’d known to flying. She felt weightless on her feet. Able to leap like a gazelle, making it look effortless, and as if she could walk on air. Of course, they were fleeting moments. If she were to be lifted by someone, the feeling lasted much longer. But it came with a price. The price of trust and having to rely on someone to keep her aloft. There was still a man there, holding her up. Kate always wanted the man to disappear. That way it would be her alone. That’s all she needed. She didn’t need someone else’s support.
When Ada arrived, Kate was stretching in the hallway, using the staircase railing as a makeshift barre.
“Come in!” Kate welcomed her in.
Ada startled a bit, unsure at what the woman was doing with her leg so high in the air. “Is this a bad time?”
“No, no, just stretching.” Kate folded over her lifted leg, reaching for her toes. “Make yourself at home.”
“Alright then.” Ada did so by hanging her coat up along with her purse and hat.
Kate could still hear her old instructor counting as she stretched.
Five, six, seven, eight.
She lifted her heel to remove it from the banister and returned to a normal standing position. “I’m guessing Tommy sent you with something.”
“Well, yes, and a question.” Ada removed a few things from her purse.
“Okay, good.” Kate went into the kitchen to get some water. Ada followed her in, spreading out the papers on the table. “If I had a penny for every contract I signed.” She sighed and turned to address the paperwork. “What about the question?”
“He said you didn’t RSVP to the wedding, I guess he just wanted to know why.”
Kate frowned. “Oh, I was certain I did.” Certain was a loose term. She recalled getting the invitation a few weeks ago. “Well, I think he knows I’m coming.”
“He didn’t sound so sure,” Ada told her.
The last thing she wanted to do was talk about the man she loved to his sister. Especially when that man didn’t love her back and intended on marrying someone else. “Tea? Or something to eat?” She offered to avoid the comment.
Ada sat down. “Tea is fine.” She figured she would be staying for a bit. Tommy had briefed her on the situation. He said Kate was acting strangely and he wanted Ada to gather more information. But of course, he left out the part about the drunken admission of love a few weeks earlier. Around the time the invitation had been received. Had Ada known, then the conversation would’ve gone differently.
“I was in a ballet company in America,” Kate said out of the blue as she filled the kettle. A distraction, to keep Ada off the topic of Tommy’s wedding. “Not for very long. I had trained for years, ever since I was little. But only a couple of seasons after I was accepted to join the company, I had to leave for Europe. It was one of the best times of my life.” She remembered fondly. Kate never fawned over the elegant, eye-catching costumes or attention from an entire audience. She had all of that at the Moulin Rouge and was miserable. No, she adored having an entire stage to use as her own. To stand tall with her chin lifted. Everything else was meaningless because the only thing that existed was that stage. It was better than any high.
“Why did you have to leave so soon after?” Ada wondered. The talk of ballet wasn’t anything interesting to her. What was interesting was the woman behind the story. Years passed and although Ada knew Kate well and got along with her, she still couldn’t understand who she was. A dancer that Tommy plucked out of Paris and brought home. There was so much Ada didn’t know, as well as the rest of the Shelby family. And yet, they felt comfortable enough with her that they could accept the inconsistencies. Only because Kate never drew their attention to them. She simply cued them in on vague parts of her life. Like saying she had been a ballerina. But they could be explained. And they could continue to keep her close.
“My father got into trouble. He promised things he couldn’t promise. And one night, a man came to my performance and had left me a note in my dressing room. He told me what my father promised and what was to come.” Kate explained. The memory of walking into the dressing room with all the other girls was still fresh in her mind even after years passed. She was smiling and laughing with them as they usually did after a successful performance. Riding the high of being on stage, Kate remembered seeing the note addressed to her laying by a dozen red roses. She had been intrigued and a bit giddy at the thought of an admirer.
“What was it?”
My dear Kathleen,
You looked stunning on stage, but I would prefer you all to myself. Fortunately, that has been granted to me. You know what you promised and you know that it’s far too late to make any more excuses. I’ll be at your apartment tonight at ten o’clock. I wouldn’t run, micina, you know that only angers me.

“He believed I was his to marry when I wasn’t.” Kate poured tea for both of them and sat down. She shifted her attention down to the paperwork that Ada had laid out on the table.
Ada watched her eyes shift from side to side even though it didn’t appear she was reading anything on the paper. “That’s what Tommy’s been protecting you from, then.” Her brother hadn’t much of an explanation for why they kept Kate around. Other than she had connections in America, Alfie Solomons liked her, and she needed their protection. Not necessarily in that order.
Kate nodded. “And now I’m afraid I’ve been entangled in his web. A bit more than I would’ve liked.” She mumbled more to herself than to Ada.
“Look,” It happened to remind the Shelby sister why she’d gone there in the first place. “None of us are thrilled that he’s marrying her. After what she did, I know it doesn’t seem like she deserves another chance to be trusted. But I think Tommy wants you there. He made it seem important.”
That only made Kate feel worse. She chewed on the inside of her cheek to keep the emotions from bubbling up in her. Although Ada seemed like a nice enough confidante, Kate couldn’t risk the chance that the news got back to Tommy. Not so close to his wedding date. “Well, you can tell him I’ll be there.” She replied. “I said I would, so I will.”

Kate assumed most people had been invited to Warwickshire a couple of days before the wedding. Only because she had been and if she had been invited, then surely others were too. After all, she figured she would be the last person Tommy would want around his home only days before his wedding to Grace.
But he’d only invited a couple of other family members. And that was only to make it seem normal that he was inviting Kate.
Tommy sent a car for her one morning. Apprehensive, Kate had packed her things and got in the car. The entire drive, she worried about what might happen. Of course, her greatest fear was Tommy was going to actually get married, even though it was guaranteed to happen. She knew it was too late for him to back out. Aside from the wedding, Kate was afraid she might say something. Anything damning, really. Maybe she said something that showed how she felt for Tommy. Or maybe inexplicably brought something up about her past.
Frankly, they were foolish fears. She hadn’t mentioned anything about her past that wasn’t carefully explained. She let nothing slip. Well, of course when she wasn’t as drunk as she’d been on absinthe. But even then, she thought she didn’t let anything slip. Kate thought that she had trained herself well enough that even in her most inebriated state, her brain wouldn’t let anything loose. But she didn’t know that she told Tommy she loved him.
“Christ,” Kate whispered to herself when the car pulled up the gravel drive. She’d been expecting a large property, especially after Arthur and John had been complaining about getting lost. But it was hard to imagine how imposing Arrow House would be until she was on the doorstep.
It didn’t feel inviting, but maybe that was because Kate didn’t particularly feel a warm invite to the wedding. Still, the estate looked like it was out of a book, not an actual place to live in. It was truly a modern-day castle where Tommy hid. And now he’d invited her inside.
One of the front doors opened and a maid came out to greet her and take her bag. “You must be Miss Rosseau.” She greeted politely.
“Yeah, thank you.” Kate couldn’t help but look around when she walked into the place. The large, drafty rooms only made her feel emptier.
“Mr. Shelby’s gone out on a ride with his brothers but he should be back for lunch. Miss Burgess is in the drawing-room. If you’d like to greet her, I could bring your things upstairs.” The woman suggested.
Kate bristled at the thought of facing Grace alone. “Um, I’d actually like to freshen up a bit.” She made up the excuse, hoping Grace wouldn’t come out to greet her.
“Of course, I’ll show you to your room. If you’d follow me.”
She followed her up the large staircase. There was a portrait on the wall of Tommy and one of his horses. Had it been a different day, maybe she would’ve thought it was funny. Tommy Shelby was slowly changing from a gypsy boy to one of Britain’s elite. Large countryside estate, portraits on the wall, immense power.
The maid brought Kate down the long hallway and showed her into a room that fit the rest of the house. Grandiose without much emotion tied to it. It wasn’t yet a family home. Just a large place filled with meaningless showy things. It didn’t impress Kate. She found most wealth was hollow. It was clear Tommy saw things differently.
“Would you like me to come and fetch you when lunch is ready?” The woman offered.
“That would be great, thank you.” Kate set her bag down on the bed and debated leaving. She felt so on edge and out of place that it made her skin crawl. “What the fuck am I doing here?” She whispered and shook her head.
After making use of the built-in bathtub, Kate got dressed and idled in the room. She didn’t want to go downstairs before she was absolutely certain Tommy or any other family member was home. That way she wouldn’t be trapped alone with Grace. It wasn’t that she feared Grace. No, she just didn’t know what to say anymore. What else was there to say? Congrats? You win?
There was a knock at the door and Kate assumed it was the maid back to tell her lunch was ready.
“Come in!” She called from her spot by the window.
However, it wasn’t the maid that entered. It was Tommy. He walked in and shut the door behind him. “We need to talk.”

The gunshots brought back the pain; it was as if he would still be laying on the dirty sidewalk in that alley, being kicked by those teenagers, trying his best to protect his head and crotch from blows. The gunshots were sounded as if they could crack a skull, as if the sound itself could purify the mind.  Arthur's stomach lurched as he lowered gun he was holding in hand. He did this. He actually did this. Then silence returned far more thickly than it was before the shots, as if everything around man was collectively holding it's breath.
You were hiding behind one of pillars, hand covering your mouth as you desperately tried to calm down your breath and racing heart. Witnessing such a thing was too much for you. Using subway was your everyday thing, you were using it to get to work as well as return home. This unfortunate day you were going back home later than usual, the evening was calm until you heard shooting in the other cart. You didn't see much through little windows between carts. The little bit of view was terrifying enough to make you sneak out of the cart as soon as it stopped. You peaked out of your hiding spot just to look if you could go but all you saw was a man being shot as he tried climbing up the stairs. Quickly returning to your spot you started to pray to get out of this alive. Thanks God, the shooter disappeared and you were able to get out of the station safely. You thought about going to the police but all you wanted truly was to go home and hide in the safety of your little apartment. "I can always go there tomorrow," you told yourself, running back to your place.

Arthur returned home and pretended he was all fine but he wasn't.
That evening everything was making him angry, especially his mother and her pure trust in Thomas Wayne. Arthur helped her take bath but as soon as he put her to bed, he went to his own, little room and sneaked under the sheets, pulling quilt on his head as he was trying to hide himself from this world.

You should have to be asleep for a few hours but you simply couldn't find yourself a place. Sitting on the couch, looking at the movement on the tv's screen, your mind was going crazy recalling every second of the event in the subway.
Even if you were in your own flat you still felt scared because of such things were becoming an everyday thing. Shaking your head you forced yourself to go shower and get to bed.

Arthur was fired. All he could have done was get out of there with his head up, he didn't want to show them that they've broken him down like an old branch of a tree. He sat at the not high fence, foot tapping up and down like some dumb wind up toy. Man was rethinking his entire existence.
For you the morning was hard, dragging yourself out of the bed was horrible yet you started to get ready for going out.
Your friends made you join them during the protest against all the rich people in the city. You didn't really like such events because of the crowd but maybe they would finally affect something, you thought.
You never were a conflict person, you always tried to avoid fights or arguments but you hated all those rich bastards. They were having fun in their skyscrapers while all the regular people were drowning in trash and poverty.
Holding the strap of your bag you walked trough the streets, trying your best to not get crazy because of the yesterday's situation. You stopped your walk when you spotted a man, a really sad man.
Arthur felt observed, and indeed he was being watched.
A rather young woman was standing several steps from him glaring at him curiously.
At first he didn't react but when she was standing still in front of him, man raised his head a little and tilted it aside so his locks fell off his face, letting him see her fully.
Man looked too similar to the one from yesterday, it kinda made you afraid and all you've wanted was to run back to your flat but his look made you concerned.
You let out a sigh and smiled at him gently when he looked at you. Walking slowly you started to move closer to him. "Hey there... is everyhitng okay? You look sad," you said shrugging softly as you played with the strap.
He looked you deeply in the eyes; emotionless and empty eyes of his were like a well which ran dry. "Yeah," he replied without thinking too much. He observed you still yet he didn't move at all.
"So... Why so sad and aren't you cold? It's quite chilly today," you said bouncing on your legs a little. "Maybe I can help you somehow?"
"Do you like comedy?," He asked out of sudden. The question was so random that even he giggled a little but the giggle was full of darkness and sadness.
You blinked looking at him, taken aback by a sudden question. Thinking for a little moment you quickly nodded. "Sure! Who doesn't? I love to have a good laugh, it helps to keep going in this city. For me at last."
He sent you a brief smile but it was more a curl of his lips in a grimace. "I'm a comedian, I've always wanted to be a comedian," he said as he hopped off the fence and made a pose like only clown would do.
"Oh wow! It must be great, I bet you know a lot of jokes and anecdotes," you said smiling at him more and clapped your hands a little. "But you are missing one thing, friend."
He was about to reach into inner pocket of jacket to pull his notebook out and read something for you but he stopped any movement, looking at you. He shook his head for "no".
"Smile," you said giggling. "Come on, smile for me and I am ready to hear you out."
You turned round to find little bench, sitting down you put one leg over other like ever lady would does. Looking at man you send him another smile and waited at his performence.
He tried his best to smile yet he felt like tears started to gather into his eyes. He turned around few times and posed again but instead of smiling naturally, he slipped two fingers of each of his hands into his mouth corners and spread them upward in a grimace which had to be pretending smile.
You looked at him, raising your eyebrow. "Okay, let's say that this is enough to convice me. So? Can I hear you and your jokes?," You asked kindly.
You were really courious what he will 'serve' you. The things you told him were true, despite being young you already hated your life in Gotham. Silly comedies, stend ups and all of this helped you cope with the hard life and kept you away from bad thoughs and stuff.
Arthur pulled his notebook out of the pocket and opened it with shaking hands, turning page after page. When he was looking down onto his notes he was about to cry in a spot because of the sadness that were coming out of them. "Knock, knock."
"Who's there?," You asked looking at him.
"The man who killed three shitbags in the metro yesterday," he whispered seriously.
You looked at him completely struck with your eyes wide open. After a moment you laughed, it was very nervous. "You… Are you joking, right? 'Cus you are a comedian," you asked shortly.
"Am I looking like someone who's joking?," He asked openly.
You sat there quiet, swallowing heavily, soon you shook your head for 'no'.
"And do you know what's the worst? I'm fucking happy about what I've done, I don't regret killing them."
You giggled nervously and nodded, slowly moving to the edge of the bench, trying your best to slip away from him.
"I won't hurt you," he assured raising hands up. "I won't hurt you, no need to run."
You got up from your seat and looked at him. "You promise? I... I saw you. I swear, I didn't go to the police. Cross on my heart," you said.
He shook his head slightly with that strange grin on his lips. "I don't mind it. I have nothing to lose and I'm tired of pretending it wasn't funny."
You nodded, looking at him. Your hands once more played nervously with the strap of your bag. "You know…," You began slowly. "I think you did a right thing. Whoever they were, they deserved this. They play around because they are 'good, rich boys' while we all struggle here. Wayne and everyone similar to him could die in the fire and the city would become better instantly."
He listened to you patiently as the grin on his lips grew wider. Arthur nodded his head a little like he would be bowing to you. "When city will be burning, it's gonna be triumph of unprivileged. And I tell you this, it's gonna come sooner than everyone expects."

Always Shine

All Chad had to tell me about Always Shine was that it starred Mackenzie Davis, Tabitha from Succession (Caitlin FitzGerald) and that it was kinda gay - as I would expect any thriller about best frenemies to be. SOLD. I cued up Amazon Prime, settled in with a dog on my lap and a song in my heart and pressed play. But I should have known that Chad would sit on a throne of lies, and what I got was NOT what I expected. How so? Well...
Unexpected is not to say bad, just...different. This felt like an excellent first draft of a movie about two friends, one (FitzGerald) much more successful in the cutthroat world of Hollywood than the other (Davis), and how the tension of that power imbalance turns sour on a weekend getaway trip to a remote cabin in the woods. What feels like an inevitable conclusion occurs, and then the movie turns into something else that could have been great, but sort of falls apart at the end. 
Some thoughts:
Oof, this initial audition sequence is so good in the sense that it is making my skin crawl. Beth (FitzGerald) is auditioning for a movie and the men in the room keep calling her sweetheart and honey and telling her how extensive the nudity is going to be in the film. It becomes clear as the movie progresses that Beth’s “success” in the industry is based on her willingness to exploit herself in shitty horror flicks that are just tits and butchered female bodies. She gets roles, but she pays a high price for them, and in case we forget that amidst Anna’s (Davis’s) jealousy, we just have to remember this first scene. 
Really interesting that Anna in her first scene is filmed the same way as Beth doing her audition. And the whole time I was wondering if Anna was acting, but then it turns out she’s not. We’re immediately set up to compare them at every turn, to wonder what is performance and what is not. It’s a clever device, augmented by director Sophia Takal’s claustrophobically tight framing on each woman’s face throughout these long monologues. 
The scene transitions are punctuated with these brief flashes of other scenes and discordant noises, screams. It’s jarring and nerve-jangling and I’m so into whatever this is setting up. See, The Mothman Prophecies, there is a way to do this technique right!
The competition between Beth and Anna does not feel friendly at all; you can feel Anna’s resentment boiling up constantly, and Mackenzie Davis plays it perfectly. She’s working through all this tension in every scene, and there’s so much fury behind her eyes. I’m reminded of the TSwift lyric, “I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try” - the difference between Beth and Anna is effort. And as we’ve all known since middle school, looking like you’re trying too hard is the least cool thing in the world. 
Also this lipstick Anna keeps putting on is just the right amount of cheap - it’s flaked onto her teeth in tiny bits when we’re first introduced to her, which is such a perfect little character detail. 
Say what you will about the way the plot sort of fizzles in the end, writer Lawrence Michael Levine has an ear for natural, revealing dialogue. Anna and Beth talk to each other the way my best friend and I talk to each other.
This encounter in the bar with this random guy is making me SO uncomfortable. Not only for Beth - I’ve been the friend sitting in silence while my friend flirts with some rando - and for Anna, who is striking out with this guy HARD. And for him to ultimately hit on Anna when Beth goes to the bathroom - ouch. You get the sense it’s always been this way, that things are just handed to Anna because she doesn’t give off the same air of desperation Beth does. Both women play this dynamic perfectly. In terms of character study and fascinating performances, FitzGerald and Davis are acting the hell out of this, and are both a true joy to watch.
Also, I love how complicated the dynamic is, because even though she’s being incredibly intense about it, Beth has a point - Anna is lying at every turn but acting as though she’s completely innocent and helpless in this situation. The resentment isn’t simple jealousy, because Anna is being manipulative here.  
After the climax of this confrontation between the two women, there’s now this turn about 2/3 of the way through the movie where Anna is essentially acting like Beth, playing the role of Beth, and it’s fascinating to watch. The way Davis’s body language changes, the way she changes her voice to make it softer, it’s completely transformative.
A big consequence of this film is that it makes me want to go to Big Sur.
ARGH things were going so well and so interestingly, but I Did Not Love the ending. I actually really enjoyed the slow burn tension of the whole thing, but the ending felt completely anticlimactic and flat, and left a really sour taste in my mouth. Almost like a deus ex machina, it’s just like “welp now it’s over k bye” with no real resolution or catharsis or even a sense that our characters learned or changed by the end. 
Did I Cry? No, this is more tense than it is upsetting.
Final result - not nearly gay enough. There are scenes where Beth is showering in an open plan shower (no curtain or door) while Anna is talking to her in the bathroom, and it STILL didn’t feel that gay. I’ve seen O Magazine covers more homoerotic than these scenes. So obviously, that’s a bummer, but the dynamic between these two characters is thankfully based on resentment, spite, and years of competition, so it’s still interesting. If you can forgive a flat ending and want to simply watch two women act the fuck out of these characters, Always Shine is worth a shot.

Cursed G Pt 16 (Gilgamesh, Hakuno)

“Well?”
“I’m cooking.”
The man returned from his trip to the bathroom to lean over her shoulder, glancing at the soup in the pot and wrinkling his nose. And, just like that, the peaceful mood was being broken.
“What?”
“Nothing,” he countered. “I merely thought that you would serve a king something worthy of being eaten. I suppose your meager meals will have to continue. I will simply await taking you to Uruk and introducing you to meals that will satisfy a stomach.”
“I think you’ll be fine.”
He still whined, all the way up until she had the food in bowls and the two of them were once more wrapped in blankets in the living room. Try as she might, she still ended up pressed against his chest once again when they were done eating. Her eyes were closing slowly on the view of the mindless television.
She woke up what seemed like moments later.
Birds chirped from outside the window. She could see the sun on the horizon once again.
A pair of arms were around her waist, her body pressed into the mattress as Gilgamesh lay nestled in her chest. His hair had drifted over his eyes a bit as he lay there with his mouth open, giving the subtlest of snores.
His weight was a bit more than she was accustomed to in bed, but it felt nice. It felt very nice.
Her lips met his forehead softly before she glanced at the clock.
Sunday afternoon…
Of course it was Sunday afternoon. She’d fallen asleep for a bit.
Her eyes closed once more, her body shifting a little in bed only to be yanked back under the man close by. When he pulled her in, she wrapped her arms around him. She pressed herself as much against him as he did her.
Those red eyes were opening, his face moving closer to hers once again.
How many times had they done this, she wondered quietly, feeling his lips press to hers. His mouth moved slowly, as did those hands on her chest.
“You slept all day again,” he murmured.
She hummed a bit.
Hard not to; she was content in her mind right now. The bed was comfortable. She had nothing happening, nothing stopping her. There was a pair of lips moving nicely against her own.
“Hakuno,” the man over her breathed.
His hand was moving between them, finding her legs and parting them.
Rather than thinking, she simply wrapped her legs around the man’s waist and listened to him chuckle. His body was moving to loom over her. She could feel a hand stroking gently, making her give the softest of moans...
And then the door was thrown open.
“HAKUNO!”
She screamed.
Gil yanked the blankets over them.
There was more shrieking as the woman in the doorway threw the door closed.
“SHE’S HAVING- GEEZ! AND WE CAME ALL THIS DAMN WAY!”
Someone was laughing in the distance. There was rumbling, something broke in the other room as another person was whistling.
“Who the hell was that?!”
Gilgamesh glared at the door, holing her to himself.
There was no need for questions like that though.There was only one woman who would be bitchy enough to complain after barging into someone’s room like that. Only one, currently dating Cu, somebody would dare to be that arrogant about entering another’s room that loudly.
It was obvious.
“Gil…” Hakuno glanced up at the man, finding him still hovering over her. “Gil, I have to-“
“Go.”
He didn’t even try to argue. She slipped from his arms, grabbing one of his shirts on the nightstand and slipping through the door.
Rin and Cu Chulainn were already in the midst of bickering as Rani and Sakura stood nearby. Cu was in the midst of pointing out about entering rooms and Rin was lamenting naked people being naked. From the sidelines, two women watched as the couple got after one another, both sighing.
“I knew we should have simply called out,” Rani argued.
“We didn’t know if she was here,” Sakura pointed out.
“What are you all even doing here?” Hakuno asked.
Rani and Sakura glanced over at her, both of them wincing a bit.
“I got worried,” Sakura explained. “I wanted to invite you out to eat, but we called a few times and you kept going to voicemail. Emiya said your boyfriend- ah, I mean- your fiance, is a bit rude so we got concerned and borrowed Emiya’s key.”
Sakura glanced around as she said that, frowning more. “Where’s G?”
“Dozing in my room,” Hakuno pointed out. “Cu! Rin! Guys! I’m not doing anything!”
Rin huffed, turning her attention over to her.
The others glanced over at her as well.
No.
They were all looking behind her right now. Their eyes were on the man who was no doubt standing just behind her person.
“Everyone seems to have been able to enter your home without permission,” the man purred, eyeing the lot of them. “I don’t seem to recall an open invitation being given.”
“Rin was worried about Hakuno,” Cu explained. “Sakura snagged the house key from Emiya.”
“And you didn’t inform them that I was here?”
Gilgamesh made it sound like he was some great comfort and protection.
Hakuno glanced over her shoulder at him, watching that almost bored expression that was currently making Cu Chulainn falter a bit.
“Have you tried stopping Hakuno before?”
The man smirked. “Typically, I have found Hakuno enjoys not stopping... It’s one of our many mutual interests.”
No, she didn’t need to hear this. The man was ruining her reputation for sure. Already she could see Sakura looking her over with great interest. The other two girls in the room were trying to find words and failing miserably.
“Alright,” Cu moved between them all, slapping a hand onto Gil’s shoulder. “Everyone, this is Gilgamesh. He’s kind of a dick, but he’s alright with Hakuno and he did me a favor in terms of work so… I mean, he’s still kind of an ass.”
“Excuse me?”
“Anyway!” Cu grinned. “Since we’re all awake and active, let’s head out to eat or something.”
“I need to go say hello to G first!” Sakura glanced down the hall, earning a laugh from Gil.
“You’re going to say hi to that cat?”
“Of course!”
Of course, she was. Sakura loved her beloved cat almost as much as she had. The girl had made a few efforts to try to get close to him. She’d doted on him and given him treats. She’d tried cuddling him and holding him.
At the time, she hadn’t bothered to worry about it.
Now though…
“G has been nestled in the bed I got him,” Gilgamesh told her simply. “Hakuno and I had a time getting him to sleep since he doesn’t seem to be feeling well.”
“He isn’t?”
The king wrapped his arms around her as he spoke to Sakura, keeping her close. “Hakuno and I have been up all night, tending to him. He’s been whining a great deal.”
“Is he going to be okay?”
Sakura looked to the others, earning shrugs.
Any comments they could make were stopped the moment that Gilgamesh wrapped his arms around her more and nipped at her person. She could feel her face warming as the others coughed uncomfortably. 
There was really no way to make him stop at this time.
“I’ve been staying with Hakuno since she has decided to become my wife. Seeing her through the illness of her pet is nothing,” Gilgamesh purred.
“He’s that bad?”
“Vomited a few times on the floor. The medic said little.”
The others in the room shifted.
It was hard not to. Apparently, she was engaged, her cat had become sick, she was performing foreplay in her bedroom; things were as far from okay as possible.
Sakura was the first to move forward, beaming at Gilgamesh.
“I’m glad that you’re here for Hakuno. I got worried when she stopped talking to us as much. She’s seemed a bit down. Please take good care of her.”
The purple haired girl turned to the others.
“If Hakuno’s fine, then we should let her and Gilgamesh have their time together. I think Emiya will probably be mad that I stole his key. Maybe… Rin, could you help me make something-“
“Yeah, come on.”
Rin took her former sister’s hand, glancing over as they headed for the door.
“We’ll see you both tomorrow. Don’t forget to do your homework, Hakuno.”
Her homework…
SHIT!
But Cu was laughing and following after Rin, teasing her about something. Rani shrugged following along.
“Guys!”
The door shut.
Alone again with her no longer feline friend, Hakuno found herself without the assignment help. Her companion headed to the fridge, opening it and pulling out a beer bottle.
“They’re gullible.”
“They’re trusting.”
Not that the man would know anything about trusting. The goddess of his kingdom had turned him into a cat and had tossed him outside of his time. He was without a home or anything other than-
Hakuno groaned at her gleaming living room decorations.
There would be a lot of questions about this.
Thankfully, Gilgamesh was apparently enough of a distraction that the whole group had completely missed taking a look into her living room. None of them had even thought to ask about her sudden influx of gold and jewels. 
Still, there was so much crap to do.
“What time is it?” Hakuno sighed.
“It is time for you to come back to bed.”
“I have to get that homework done, Gil.”
Lots of work. She was pretty sure she had forgone most of her work in lieu of having that one night with Gilgamesh. Then there was the surprise of yesterday and then today was just resting...
“Are your classes about my story still?”
“A couple,” she told him distractedly.
“Then you have your work done. Present me to your people and we shall discuss their heinous crimes against the tales around myself and my friend. Your tutors will learn soon enough what truths of myself and my people that they have found elusive thus far. We can broaden their understanding of the reality of my life and ensure proper teaching to the other noble children whom attend your teachings with you.”
Oh, she could see it now. Taking the great king of Uruk to class...
But she wasn’t going to think about that.
No, she closed her eyes and turned, walking back into his arms.
Perhaps just remaining close to him was enough. Maybe she could just keep him from saying anything. They could simply go back to watching television for a bit before she worked on her homework. The two of them could figure out how to introduce him to people and react to others without being a bit… guarded.
“Hakuno-“
“I can’t take you to school or work with me.”
The man laughed, brushing back her hair and looking into her face. “It’s highly amusing, Hakuno, you seem to think you have a choice in this matter. The fact is, I won’t allow you to leave my sight. Not for long, anyway. I claimed you before your people.”
“You did.”
The man snorted, “a man does not propose himself to a maiden only to be turned down. This is not one of those times where you can simply claim away my claims. You are mine at this point, maiden. In body and in mind.”
“I’m not-“
“Have you read about Sumerian marriages?”
She didn’t breathe a damn word.
Marriages were simple. One basically talked to the family or close guardians, gained permission or approval in general, and then would announce they were husband and wife. There was ceremonial perfume followed by…
Well, followed by…
Hakuno felt her face burning at the thought. Sakura and Cu had both accepted Gilgamesh now. They were both approving of this wedding.
“Have you?” He smirked, coming in closer and beginning to unbutton his shirt on her person. She could already tell he was thinking this conversation over.
“I read about your other wives,” she pointed out.
“Oh?”
Oh indeed. She wasn’t going to sacrifice herself for anything like that. She had tasks to complete here. She had friends and-
“You want something with more meaning?”
Wife to a king was the highest one went. What on earth was the-
“I have one position that is available. Should you be able to return us to Uruk, I would be vaguely interested in making you something more.”
His lips pressed against her own again.
“I will return you to Uruk.”
“Us.” Gilgamesh lifted her up, carrying her back to the bedroom. “You and I will return to my kingdom and you will meet Enkidu.”
Hakuno groaned again, going to speak when the door was pounded on.
Had Sakura forgotten something again?
This wouldn’t be the first time the girl had forgotten her keys, her phone, her shoes, her jacket- something of hers, at the house. Hakuno had to button back up the shirt she was wearing as Gilgamesh made a noise of complaint. 
They looked to one another before Hakuno found herself back on her feet.
She rushed to the door, laughing.
“Did you guys forget something?” she asked, pulling the door open. “I didn’t see…anything…”
There was a supermodel on the other side of the door.
No, Rin?
No… The red eyes were definitely not Rin’s. 
The gaudy, almost see through dress and the red lipstick was also a couple things that Rin would never have approved for herself. The woman before her was screaming of sexual misconduct and depravity.
Hakuno stared at her for a full minute, frowning.
Who on earth…
“Can I… help you?” she asked the woman.
The woman glanced over at her, running her eyes over her person. She could almost see the judgement; the eye twitch, the fixed gaze on her state of dress.
“My name is Ishtar. I’m looking for my lost ah… nephew. His name is Gilgamesh.”
Shit.
Without thinking, Hakuno simply slammed the door shut.
