How do I understand the EVA units as someone who hasn’t seen Evangelion in years. They’re made from the same stuff as the Angels but they’re modified somehow and mindless on their own. They resemble human anatomy for some reason, I assume simply because it allows them to handle human-made weapons, and are extremely resilient. They’re armored, but they’re not really mechas. Their core software is a soul extracted from a previously living woman (okay?) and this soul is kept in a dormant state of some kind, unless it “wakes” and then we deal with the “berserk” mode. (I remember a berserk EVA eating the Angel she just killed I and think that’s neat) The humans control these creatures by inserting a child who acts like a pilot directly into the body of the EVA, via the brainstem. Upon entrance, the child and the EVA are thoroughly connected to the point of sharing pain receptors, thoughts to a certain extent and I assume emotions as well. The EVAs are capable of operating without the child’s piloting but for that they need to “wake” and the child needs to be already inside. I don’t think they ever moved without anyone inside of them. Not every EVA can be operated by every child however. A certain level of affinity needs to be established. The organization that handles the EVAs (something with the German world for soul I think) creates this linking by having the actual children of the women whose souls they put into the EVAs (what) be the pilots. But there are alternative methods as well. The pilot has to be a child though (what the hell sure).

Publishing has always been a fucking nightmare, but now it’s a layer of hell. It’s not enough that writers be good at what they do. Writers have to maintain an active social media presence and cultivate a following. Be available.

They have to be conventionally attractive enough to look good enough to see on a screen, aesthetically pleasing, kind, funny, up-to-date on trends, socially aware but not so controversial that they turn off a brand from California from slapping their discount code on a video promoting a book.

They have to do all of this with no media training, with little help from the companies that are supposed to be doing this for them.

Of course, a lot of this isn't possible for say, the 40-something mother of two who teaches English at a school and writes on the side. She’s boxed out of an already complex industry that already has enough walls.

On some level, I think authors have always marketed themselves a little, but we’ve reached such a crazy point where we’re demanding the author become the influencer. Accessibility in publishing has narrowed from an inch to a sliver. And that inch was hard enough to get in as is.

Curly had two days to act and Swansea had two months.

I think it’s just interesting that every defense of Swansea not immediately acting are the same ones that are argued against for Curly. “He didn’t want to alert Daisuke or makes things worse for Anya either Jimmy!” I mean people also assume that about Curly and the crew. “He has to think about his plan of action and a right moment!” Again so did Curly, power and authority aside, he still would have to think of what he had to do. “He makes sure he doesn’t have to be around Jimmy!” So did Curly and they only do this to an extent, both give Jimmy more than a few opening to keep harassing Anya.

This isn’t defense of Curly nor a damnation of Swansea. Their actions are very parallel to each others in tragic and sour ways when it comes to how they approached helping Anya. In the grand scheme of it all they both did the same thing: Nothing. No action either took stopped the inevitable outcome of her death nor Jimmy’s continued damage to themself.

The only real difference is Swansea didn’t like Jimmy which is pretty substantial, but also just as damning as Curly knowing how bad Jimmy could get to an extent. He had even less of a reason to wait, even more of a reason to act seeing as he was now worried for Anya AND Daisuke. He is not bound by the possible procedure as Captain and actively does not care about what happens next. So what does it matter if he acted in the moment? Why did he wait? I think he’s just as morally complex and grey as Curly and we hold him on a pedestal that still perpetuates things in rape culture the game critiques.

It’s not just enough to dislike and be abrasive to predators/abusers like Jimmy. It’s not enough to just put yourself between them and the other person. It’s not enough to hold tensions when you know someone is vulnerable. He and Curly do the exact same things but on different sides of the coin. I ask how is it better to not turn a blind eye but still not really do anything about what you are seeing? Not until it affects you atleast…

The game makes a big point to not put men doing the bare minimum or who wait to do more on pedestals and I’m actually surprised so many are missing that point.

I cannot find the post anymore because my notes are a mess, but shoutout to the person who told me to look up a pattern for bloomers as an answer to my very vague post about maybe wanting to make shorts, you were absolutely right!!

I found an easy tutorial, all I have left to add are the bottom hems and elastic, and I did not have enough of any one pattern of flannel so instead I have half and half plaid flannel bloomers. They are going to be my winter pajama pants and I am delighted making them, they will be absolutely ridiculous
