I don’t know if this is genuine or sarcastic, so I’m just going to say this:

I don’t claim to know anything about media literacy. What I do understand is intricate plot and telling a compelling story. I also understand that from the end of 806, I said almost immediately “I feel manipulated”. This has deep personal connotations for me, but the point remains, and because of those personal relations, I get an actual “ick” about feeling manipulated. Now again, I have zero clarity one way or the other as to whether the manipulation is based out of them actually fucking this storyline up or if it’s because of the way they’re trying to pitch it to us as an “exit” and “ending”. Either way, that hasn’t left me.

All I know at the end of the day is that if these people don’t understand how to recover from this decision, they don’t belong in writing television. There’s also the point that I’ve made this week, that this is not the first time TM & Co have done something like this. They’ve done it with Madney. They’ve done it with Tarlos. We’ve even seen it to some degree with Bathena. What set us all off was the interviews, which we’ve all stated from day one were …odd. The thing that stays with me though, is the fact that not once has any one of these interviews stated “Tommy Kinard is gone for good”. I’ve read dozens of exit interviews (said this too earlier this week), and the only people CALLING it an exit interview, are the interviewers. Lou said the arc was over. By the very definition of what needs to be shared and said between BuckTommy for the reconciliation, he’s right. They’ve spanned the first arc of their relationship. Further, another thing that sticks out in my mind is his statement towards how he wouldn’t turn down playing Tommy again because, to his knowledge, there’s nothing else similar to their relationship happening on television. Which is SO important for representation. I also keep thinking about his tweet “keep the hope alive”. Obviously that can be read as he just wants more work… or it can be read as, there’s more coming, don’t give up on them yet.

Above all else, it’s the crowd reaction. We know the “other team” thinks this is all to tee them up into their pairing, and here’s my response to that:

One, it’s not. Because we know that’s now what TPTB want. But two, if it is, I hope they’re prepared for the mass exodus that takes place when all the people who DON’T want that pairing stop watching. And of course, those who do but don’t get the version of it that they want because RG and OS don’t want to play it the way the fandom thinks it should.

I’m not above saying that if they made them canon, I don’t think I’d stick around. It doesn’t serve the story, it spits in the face of what RG has been trying to communicate for years about himself and Hispanic men in general, and especially on the heels of this, it would feel dirty.

Anyway, I rambled on on this far longer than I meant to. Oops!

I don’t know, I feel like actors don’t always get the character they play ‘right’ and that’s the problem with these movie/show adaptations of books. Hotd was a big mistake, I don’t think I’ll ever change my stance on that, mostly because of all the racism and hate in the fandom and from the producers/directors. If the show runners just make a fanfic version of a book, I really don’t understand the point, it’s infuriating, especially to the original book readers. I get attached to minor characters and it really just fucks with me because they rarely get treated well or are as uplifted as they should be! I go a little overboard with this stuff, it’s a problem and I know that, but it would just be so nice if showrunners didn’t diverge so much from the original canon material! With the hotd promos, they genuinely piss me off. I’m not team black or team green, I’m really not, I only genuinely like a few people on the show (which do happen to be team black, but I can’t really say that I like the other people on said team). I regret watching the show and getting into the fandom, I wish I could go back and never watch it, that’s how messed up it’s got me. I just hope s2 is not as disrespectful as s1 bc I’ll still watch it, but I must admit I don’t have much hope of that, especially with how the actors speak of it, it just gives me the ick. It’s not wrong for “family” to hate each other or have problems with eachother. Team black is not this perfect family (and team green isn’t either, not at all) and it’s so stupid for people to try and say they are. At the end of the day it’s fiction, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the least bit realistic with strained dynamics. For example, it’s okay if the dragon twins have some resentment for rhaenyra and daemon, I’m not saying that they do, but it would be perfectly fine if they did. It would be normal. It doesn’t mean they ultimately hate daemon or rhaenyra, but it doesn’t have to be one or the other either. Team black loves to act as if rhaena&baela adore rhaenyra and they very well might, but if you were to argue that they might dislike or are just not close with her for very understandable reasons, all hell would break loose. As someone who primarily follow people who are team black and pro rhaenyra I know I would be hated on hard if I even suggested the dragon twins held some resentment from when they were younger (which is why I’m saying this anon rn lmao). And I’m not even hating on rhaenyra, I’m just trying to step in their shoes ig. At the end of the day I wholeheartedly believe laena will be the most important woman figure to them regardless of how they feel and that can be enough. I just love mother -children relationships and hotd fandom loves to ignore minor ones :/

🫂I feel you anon especially about the going back in time part. Funnily enough I almost wasn't going to watch this crap because I was still upset with how GOT ended.

However, they got to me with of the addition of the Black cast. I should've known though that it was a fucking trap to get Black people to watch this shit show and that they had no actual intention of doing right by the Black characters, but nope I decided to be a dummy.

Two years later and now I’m here 🤦🏽‍♀️ Having to witness take after take on how every Black(ish) character is unimportant, irrelevant, interchangeable, and only there so the show can appear to be “woke—unless of course they need them to bash a character they hate more.

Poor Laena gets shafted constantly and mocked for being second best and people barely want to admit she’s her girls mother, but then when it’s time to bash Alicent then they want to admit she was shafted.

Baela and Rhaena are barely talked about unless it’s to say how they can replace Nettles(or to mention how Missy Anne did in fact have daughters…. daughters who refer to her as my queen or princess and named their kid after who again? I believe it starts with a L).

Daenaera is non-stop depicated as the lightest mixed girl (if even that) that one can find(and that’s a feat cause there aren’t any actual Black women on this show), but then they want to use her being “Black” to accuse people they have beef with of racism.

Laenor is made into a bum(that’s more the showrunners fault, but people go in on him unnecessarily).

Vaemond is absolutely hated and Corlys, Addam, and Alyn are liked so long as they don’t go off script(which anyone who has read the books knows that Corlys and Alyn are going to go off script)….

Don’t get me started on Team Green who is less outright with their racism, but they aren’t right either.

Can't say that this fandom is the worst or the most racist cause unfortunately I’m seeing the same pattern play out in several other fandoms I’m apart of, but a large portion of this fandom shouldn’t interact with other people until they’ve seen a shrink.

The show is just not good enough for people to be going this crazy about it, but I digress. Honestly though I say all this, but I’ve gotten to the point where I just don’t care for this show or fandom anymore.

I think Zoe (especially in fannon) is played a bit too dumb. Given her reactions to Evan in early act one I don’t think she would ever actually fall for Evan. I know she’s like 16 but…she clearly didn’t like Evan up until the end of YWBF. She rejected him after IICTH, she didn’t sing in Disappear, and I know she’s supposed to have her moment of acceptance that Connor “was a good person” in YWBF but it feels kind of forced. The 911 fandom is a mess-mess. From “joking” that people should be allowed to publicly execute men for flirting with men in a way that gives them the “ick.” To arguing that queer men are liars and cheats who spread disease. To joking about queer men dying of AIDS. To routinely using either the mammy trope or “sassy black” trope to characterize the Black Women of the show. To routinely hypersexualizing—like—the token Latiné character or relying on the “sassy Latin” trope in their characterization of him, too. To defending ableism. To now defending CSAM and a literal pedophile who has written several fics featuring CSE (that are often mis-tagged, mis-described, mis-rated, and re-uploaded under new names to get people to accidentally read them).

And if someone’s response to “Hey, we should do something about this” is to go “Nooo! But my blorbo fan fantasies,” they need to log-off and go touch grass; spend several days talking to people in-person instead of through a screen. It’s about the most chronically online BS reaction someone could have.

As you said— this shit shouldn’t be broadcast for entertainment. And that’s what’s getting lost to people. These fics are very truly explicit material featuring sexual fantasies about children, and they’re being posted for arousing entertainment. The person may have claimed they were doing this to punish fans for supporting a (new) canon queer relationship, but given how they’ve expanded their tags to catch wider audiences, that is clearly not the case. They want you to read it and enjoy it.

Like… I understand that there are a lot of powerful men in important positions who uses moral affronts to CSAM to actually censor queer people or information on bodily autonomy. But assuming that anyone who claims to care about child sexual exploitation is actually lying and has nefarious motives is… dangerous. And fallacious. It is so-so important to actually analyze what an individual is saying and how. There’s a difference between “there should be a report function specifically for CSEM” and “we should shut this site down because the people who use it are porn-obsessed degenerates.” There’s a difference between “I don’t think this site should have an anonymous feature because it allows users to easily subvert a block, and protecting a block should be the responsibility of the site, not the individual user” and “this site is full of dangerous kinks that could give kids ideas, so all of it must go!”

But if you can just lump anyone who disagrees with you into one group and label them “bad and oppressing me,” then you don’t need to critically analyze your own gut/emotional reaction to what they said. And what they said might have actually been a fairly reasonable—and incredibly moderate—step forward.

All I suggested was more robust blocking and reporting mechanisms on a BETA site.

It’s telling that they only bring out the chronically online names and discourse terms when it’s about CSAM. Many (but definitely not all) of the very people going to bat for never, ever changing Ao3 because it’s “perfect” were also the same people who unironically argued that two adult fictional men over the age of 30 joking about a 10 yr or less age gap between them are “predatory” and “making light of incestuous abuse.” Although, IDK what else I could expect from people who “joked” that they hoped certain fans would kill themselves over fictional characters.

As for the shipping thing - people can ship whoever they want but they have to remember it's just that. It's not canon just because they want it to be. It's insane how many people are shipping Mor x Emerie, Jurian x Vassa, Lucien x Vassa, Gwyn x Azriel, Eris x Nesta - when we know jack shit about them. And it's not just that they're shipping them, it's trying to claim this is what is going to happen for sure.

It's crazy. I don't understand why people are reading these books if they just are inventing different versions of the plot and storyline and characters in their heads.

I found your take in the height difference discourse interesting, mainly because I agree, but also because the exact opposite is also true (at least in my experience).

I get the ick a lot of the time Cody is portrayed as the short one in the relationship, mostly due to the connotations that come with being the short one as people have detailed many times before. It’s the exact same problem with Obi Wan being the short one, as in that they’re woobified or even viewed as the submissive one in the relationship or even as the ‘woman’ (and I can’t even begin to get into how many layers of fucked up that is) but what also happens with Cody is it feels a lot more exploitative and sinister than it does with Obi Wan. The difference in their ranks is an interesting thing to explore when it comes to them, but the problem comes when younger or less experienced writers end up portraying them with a power imbalance.

Would canon Obi Wan ever take advantage of anyone, especially in that way? Of course not. But that doesn’t stop some writers. It just feels a lot grosser when Cody is the one being babied, at least to me. Especially since a lot of these people go out of their way to make Obi Wan bigger and more powerful than Cody.

To be clear: you are absolutely right, but I just wanted to throw my two cents in. I think any portrayal of a ship has the capacity to be problematic, we just need to be careful we don’t resort to relying on stereotypes or overused tropes that come with shipping dynamics. Cody or Obi Wan being noticeably taller isn’t inherently bad, but the internal biases of the writer are what could potentially make them that way. All rational people know height has absolutely nothing to do with any of this, and it’s strange that we’re gotten to the point where this inevitably ends up being a problem in every single fandom.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem. I've never encountered a fan work where Cody is a smol uwu bean, but that could get pretty weird for different reasons. Codywan is a ship I enjoy for the devotion and fluffiness and old married couple/coworkers vibes, so I tend to avoid fic that specifically revolves around the power imbalance or the age difference, which is likely why I've never encountered this.

I have encountered clone fics where the chronological ages and "sheltered" upbringing (for lack of a better adjective) is leaned into HARD, which can give me the ick if they're portrayed as sexy or appealing rather than tragic or an obstacle to romance. Maybe the ultra smol Cody trend is an extension of that?

And yeah, not all exaggerated size differences are problematic. Some of the clones have canonically turned out extremely large due to cloning mishaps, like Wrecker. Often it's just because the writer or artist thinks it's cute. I've read some very interesting fics that lean into the sci-fi body horror aspect of cloning and even how being genetically engineered to be extremely large can be an obstacle to the clones being seen as anything other than weapons. Sometimes fics can discuss epigenetic factors to explain height alterations, which is very plausible because Jango didn't always get adequate nutrition and rest growing up and the clones were all standardized and specifically made to be at his physical peak.

But the fact that these trends keep happening in this fandom makes them worth examining and dissecting. For example, I remember a lot of stormpilot discourse about why Finn was so often depicted as significantly larger and more muscular than uwu smol Poe, when that's not what John Boyega and Oscar Isaac look like. I've even read some Han/Lando fics that did the same thing to Lando, even though you could just write Skyrissian or Solorgana or Lando/Leia or Skysolo if you want a big size difference in your ship. Considering the star wars fandom's history of racism, I think that it's worth examining why it's so often characters of color that this happens to.

I mean that's his sister right there and El clearly loves Mike so much. It would kinda fuck up the WillEl dynamic. Now I don't think M*leven will stay together forever, they are 14 years old but Mike and Will getting together immediately after that is impossible. Also if El doesn't make it out alive in s5 it would take Will some time to date Mike, his deceased sister's ex. I just think every time you say you care about El's feelings about the matter people will jump you or say El's just gonna be fine. Same with R*nance and Steve being fine with his best friend dating his ex. Like characters outside the ship are allowed to be upset if it's affecting them in a negative way. The treatment of El in this fandom is so atrocious sometimes, like she's getting tossed aside or her feelings never matter when it involves her current boyfriend. B*ler like r*nance is so messy and I don't like when people take it away. Pointing out this dynamic doesn't mean we hate gay people. B*ler not happening or being complicated doesn't take away that Will's gay. It would still be a happy ending for Will to come out and be accepted by his friends without b*ler being endgame imo.

when i started shipping it: i shipped it as it progressed in canon! i think the writers did a good job of developing it for what is was and it didn't really need a lot of help from fandom to get me into it!

my thoughts: overall i think they're very sweet! they're my second favorite ship for both of them

what makes me happy about them: i like that they get to have just a normal, cute teen romance in the middle of this war that they both are forced to take too large a role in. and after suki knocks some sense into him sokka doesn't keep playing that gross teenage boy stereotype and actually respects her. i can't imagine what good that would have done me to see as a kid!

what makes me sad: i get that suki was a side character but i think it's unfair that she didn't really grow because of their relationship. i would've like to see her learn something by being with sokka

annoying things in fic: i don't read a whole lot of sukka but anything where they make suki mean and turn sokka into her doormat gives me the ick. like they have a very balanced relationship in canon and you don't need to change that to have a conflict!! be creative!!

things i look for in fic: again i don't read a lot for them but when i do i like stuff where suki gets a chance to grow. making up for lost character development ig :)

alt ships: i stan zukka so there's that, and for suki i favor wlw ships! yueki stands out but for canon i like a warrior gf for her or one of the fn girls! (maiki has an interesting dynamic potential that i really want to sit and think about sometime)

happily ever after: i think realistically they'd be in an ldr while they recover from the war but it'd be nice for them to have a little family together and for suki to maybe join sokka in the swt <3

In the Company of Monsters by Chiaki_Hamano

It’s a DC/Batman fanfic I found when I was looking for some longer Superbat fics. The main ship is Tim Drake/Damian Wayne, which I dislike for the same reasons I dislike Rhodey/Tony, Stucky, Thorki, etc. The Robins are like brothers in almost every sense other than blood, and to ship them gives me the icks. And in canon, there’s an age gap between Tim and Damian that isn’t that big but considering they’re both minors, it feels a lot bigger. Even 1 yr can feel like a huge gap when you’re under 18.

But this fic surpasses those reasons by 1, putting it in an AU where Tim and Damian don’t know each other (until the fic starts, obviously) and are much closer in age. It’s a super gritty post-World War 3 fic, where the world is this wasteland of shit and general dystopian, apocalyptic shit. But it’s done so well. It is absolutely stunning, and I could go on for hours about it. The author puts so much attention into details like adding little known DC characters to fill every gap and if you’re a DC superfan you’ll appreciate literally every single character being in the perfect place. And the fic has so many things I love. Slow burn, angst, well-done dystopia, tragic backstories, great writing, everything. It’s fucking amazing.

The fic is actually closely based on a real LGBTQ+ romance book series, In The Company Of Shadows, which you can download for free. So if it sounds cool but isn’t your fandom, I highly suggest reading the original series. 

So that’s the fic that I read despite it having my NOTP because it sounded cool, and I definitely didn’t regret it.

Like I’m RIGHT there with him, angry and kind of shellshocked after coming off stolen century (i marathoned the last twelve episodes or so) and then magnus (well travis i guess) says he raises the FRPSoD and he kind of chokes up as he says it? BOOM just typing that i get teary eyed! from zero to about to cry in 0.2 seconds. 

Most well done character death: okay… there weren’t REALLY that many but i guess we all know it has to be… magnus :(

When did you start watching/reading: like… a month or so ago. haha. devoured it in a week and then did it all again a week later i think.

Trope you wish they would stop using: like the worst one was the kill your gays but they fixed that. the other is fridging i guess but … like… i dunno. i get where travis was coming from? i think there’s also maybe like…. a forgivable amount of death for a character’s backstory for these sorts of genre characters where you need them to like… be solo otherwise why are they off being adventurers? like the alternative is merle was a deadbeat dad who ran out on his family and that says things about a character too, you know? it’s complicated is what i’m saying. 

One thing this show/book/film does better than others: okay i think that the mcelroys have really really tried to fix things they’ve fucked up. like the sloane and hurley thing and the taco thing - they are willing to say ‘we should have handled this better’ even if they didn’t intend it badly. it makes me appreciate them all the more, you know?

Funniest moments: okay for balance like… for an extended bit? magic brian’s death. magic brian was just a treat all around imo. oh or the whole thing about breaking into the sharks base. barbara taking little jerry to the bathroom just tickled me.

Couple you would like to see: avi and johann maybe?

Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: none. but i wouldn’t mind some cross over from other arc characters showing up somehow in live shows i guess? especially duck or errol or agustus or aubrey (i feel like i’m being mean to clint!) …or gandy or ned.

Most boring plotline: i don’t know! like every time i was kinda meh about something in theory it was actually really good. like in general racing movies aren’t my thing but petals to the metal was fantastic. westerns aren’t my cup of tea but the 11th hour was fucking terrific. maaayyyyyybe the plot arc of crystal kingdom wasn’t my fave i guess? there was a lot to be accomplished there, though, so i think it’s story maybe suffered a little to achieve so many other goals for the overall arc

Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: liches/touching stuff. how does barry always have his glasses especially after phandolin? how many times did barry go to the BoB? 

At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: i’m gonna say a few: klaarg and then magic brian were both like… okay i’m in, this is great. but the point when it DEVOURED MY BRAIN and i was completely sunk into the fandom? when red robe barry said “lup, they don’t trust me” oh god, seriously. if you’d told me okay that’s it, you can’t listen to any more ever and you’ll never get the answers to what was going on there i’d have like… bartered suffering game style, given a pinky finger or memories or something. that’s why i can’t go for any ship that’s lup and not-barry. barry’s love for lup is why i first fell in love with lup, why i first fell in love with barry, and why i first fell in obsession/love with taz: balance.

Though I always reply to random headcanons/plot ideas sent my way, and I sometimes end up doing a drabble of lil’ ficlet for it, in general I’m very bad at writing what I’m told/asked to write………

34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?

YOU HAVE OPENED THE FLOODGATES. IN SHORT, I HAVE ANGRY EMOTIONS™ ABOUT IT (but below the cut for brevity’s sake. Also this won’t be about the YGO fandom so much as a general rant for all of the fandoms I’m in).

Trigger warnings(?) for brief(?) discussion of the way non-con and all related themes were portrayed in some of the less avory fics I’ve read, for lack of a better term.

Ok so let me start this off by stating that I did, once upon a time, not have as strong an aversion to fics with the non-con/dub-con label as I do now. I never actively seeked them out, but I never flat out refused to read a fic for containing these themes either. It’s how I came across many of the things I’m about to sum up. I’m still of the opinion that if you like reading them or they help you in some way, that’s great!

However, over the years I, personally, have developed a strong dislike of 95% of all dub/non-con fics, because I continuously encountered a lot of things that squick me in those stories. Here’s some specifcs:

In case of the non-con occuring between the main pairing:- I prefer reading fics where I don’t absolutely hate one of the main characters. When I love a pairing enough to want to read/write fic of them, I tend to love both characters equally. Having straight up non-con between them is a surefire way to ick me out- Here’s a point that’s going to come up a lot: often it’s just really OOC. And if it’s not OOC then it usually uses tropes like sex pollen/abo/aliens made them do it, which have their own subset of problems. Some people don’t mind OOC portrayals, but I am not one of those people

In case of the non-con happening between one main character + someone else (usually an antagonist):- I get it, you need an evil ex. For plot reasons. But I guarantee you there’s about 99 more creative ways to make this person a douche without immediately going the full-out non-con route. Especially when it’s an established character for whom it would be completely OOC.- Not every villain has to lust after/prey on your protagonist, it’s ok. Sometimes they can just be murderous psychopaths or megalomaniacs without the added sexual predator vibes. I promise you they’ll still creep me out. You lose shock value when you make every villain have the same motivation (namely, subjugating your protagonist by fucking them) so maybe switch it up every so often?- Alternatively: just because ‘rapist’ is shorthand for ‘evil asshole’ doesn’t mean every evil asshole in your fic has to be a rapist.

Just general things about dub/non-con fics that squick me out:- Please, I’m begging you all, stop using rape as a plot device to create drama and prolong the resolution of your fic. This is aimed at those fics that are going along nice and steady, nearly all loose threads are resolved when suddenly, oh no, kidnapped by the abusive ex/someone got taken advantage of after they got drunk at a party/etc! Fics where rape is treated as nothing more than another bump in the road that the couple needs to overcome to be together is just, yikes.(This does NOT refer to the fics where the author has a story to tell specifically about dealing with (sexual) abuse and and trauma. When it’s the entire focus of the fic, it’s usually treated with due respect instead of ‘ok and then A got raped by C but B still loves A so they’re all ok again in 2k words bc true luv’)- I heavily dislike power imbalances/abuse of authority, and this can be played up beyond belief in non-con- So often I’ll see the ‘dub-con’ tag used for something that, by all means, should be labeled non-con. I’m willing to accept ‘these two idiots are pining for each other but think it’s unrequited, both get drunk and make out/sleep together while intoxicated oh no’ as a dub-con, maybe. If only one of them is drunk? If both are drunk but one is explicitly saying no? If they’re under the influence of outside forces (ye olde ‘sex pollen’ trope)? That moves from dub-con into non-con territory imo, because either only one party could give full consent, or none could. I don’t care how enthusiastic they were about it Deborah, your a/b/o heatfic still has a total lack of clear-minded consent- Here’s the big one that I wish I had never encountered, but I have: fics where non-con/rape is described in detail, as in, it’s treated as if it’s just a run-of-the-mill PWP fic and written as if I’m supposed to find this sexy????? UHM??? I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to find this traumatizing to read, and I am, but for all the wrong reasons.

There is the remaining 5% of fics tagged dub/non-con that I CAN read, and even love sometimes though, just to be clear.

Fics where the dub/non-con happened in the past, off-screen. The further removed from the act itself, the more likely I am to be able to read it. I don’t have a problem with reading about trauma aftermath, I have trouble reading romantizations of non-con.

I can read PWP fics involving bdsm scenes of rape fantasies, but even then it has to be established that the two people about to engage in this scene are all on board or I’ll close the tab in 0.001 seconds flat

Fics dealing with the aftermath of canonical abuse/rape/trauma/etc. If only because these fics are often written by salty fans, so they rarely glorify the acts that were depicted in canon and include a fair amount of knowledge (or research at the least) on both the characters and their traumas. These fics I do seek out sometimes to get closure for something canon glossed over. If you think this point is about comics, it is. Specifically about Dick Grayson (Robin I/Nightwing). I’m willing to throw hands about both the Mirage and the Tarantula incidents they put him through and then handwaved away. Don’t get me started on that Deathstroke and Terra thing back in the day either.

Tl;dr - I prefer my fics consensual, that’s the baseline here.

I don’t think I could name a singular review that made my day, so much as all reviews do that for me? And this does include tags on reblogs for fic updates on tumblr, those are amazing to read.

Basically I just crave validation and feedback, so I thrive on every single comment I get. The YGO fandom especially spoiled me with this, because y’all just seem to love leaving comments??? I’m so happy with it, but it was one hell of a culture shock when I wrote stuff for other fandoms afterwards & comments came in less often.

To be perfectly honest, while there are lots of popular pairings I don’t like or even outright dislike I sorta still ‘get’ all of them I guess… ppl are gonna find reasons to ship pretty much everything even if it’s just ‘my two fav characters who may not have met but bcs I love them both I wanna ship them’

But I guess this question is more ‘don’t get the appeal of even if you get why other ppl might see appeal?’ And I suppose I can name a few:

Sanji/literally any woman but mostly Nami: He treats women like… well… not human, and with Nami in particular he outright sexually assaulted her. I mean I ship fucked up stuff but… I admit it’s fucked up??

Zoro/Tashigi: All of their interactions are hostile and, in Zoro’s case, condescending, I mean I get rival ships and all but, honestly, in my personal opinion I really dislike the ‘forced heterosexual couple who clearly don’t like each other and argue all the time but are somehow still in love bcs?? Heterosexuality I guess’ also with rival ships I like the characters being at least somewhat equal in strength but… y’know One piece and lady characters… 

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

There’s lots of ships that I only brotp but not all of them are like… super popular so idk I’ll name a few:

Franky/Robin: I don’t like to ship them romantically and as petty as it is, the only reason for that is the fandom and it’s tendency to act like it’s canon and attack anyone who dares to ship Robin with some other male character… classy. They are Nakama though so of course I ‘ship’ them platonically

Similarly Sanji and Nami are nakama so I do platonically like them together.

Zoro and Perona I don’t mind as romantic I guess but I do prefer it platonic

Luffy I also have a hard time shipping romantically/sexually in general though I DO ship some things with him like that but mostly I prefer platonic Luffy ships.

And to relate to my muse a bit: Caesar and Monet, I don’t ship them romantically at all but they are my platonic OTP~

Let’s go with my muse for now though: Caesar is not a pedophile and those types of jokes with him are gross and not funny, also he is very very gay and that one panel with him and the ‘girl ship’ was also gross and not funny and ooc as hell.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Ehh idk man I guess… like all fandoms the OP fandom is not perfect. Um um… I find it annoying how the ‘hot’ and ‘pretty’ characters get all the love while the ‘ugly’ ones are sidelined and deemed unworthy of any attention.

For example: While I was in Japan there were SO MANY merchandise sets that featured: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Sabo, Ace, Law (and maybe Chopper), now what do those guys have in common? 

Another example: Who are the most popular Charlotte siblings? Smoothie, KATAKURI, Cracker, Pudding, Praline, Amande and sometimes Galette, what do those guys have in common over the other siblings?

Third example: People HATE Caesar because he’s an asshole that tried to kill children (and wasn’t successful) but love Doflamingo/Crocodile/Lucci etc even if the former is literally Caesar’s boss who did the actual child kidnapping and sent them to CC and also tried to massacre an entire island full of innocent people (including children), Crocodile, similarly, also tried to commit mass genocide, Lucci’s solution to a hostage situation was to kill the hostages.

I’m not excusing what Caesar did, it was terrible and he is truly awful but… I wonder why he’s so unpopular and hated for what he did while other characters who are HOT™ are loved and praised despite all they’ve done…

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

Okay. SO, this isn’t exactly something I absolutely cannot stand anymore, this is just what came to mind.

For YEARS I shipped my mage Merryn Trevelyan with Cullen until maybe 4 months ago. I used to love this pairing. 

Most of my saltiness here is directed at the parts of the fandom who will bend over backwards trying to prove that Cullen’s a terrible character and Cullen shippers are awful…because I felt like that was being directed at me. Basically I was pretty new to the fandom and I read a few of those metas which analyse every single bit of dialogue with him to try to prove that he’s rly awful and you’re wrong for liking him and so on…and because I’m a terribly malleable person when it comes to fandom, I started to feel that I was wrong about a character I thought I loved. And it just rly affected how I saw their relationship - I couldn’t think about it the same way anymore. Like, I’m not gonna say that the fandom ‘ruined’ Cullen for me, but I definitely think some people on here have issues with others in the fandom liking something they don’t. So much so that they’re prepared to write entire fucking academic essays titled ‘why X character is bad - here’s my interpretation of this one line of unreliable dialogue which definitively proves that!’ (also this obviously doesn’t just apply to Cullen - I’ve seen this for just about every character from Anders to Iron Bull)And I fell for it. I think if I had any advice for newcomers to fandom it would be don’t let the negative opinions of others stop you from liking what you like! Make your own conclusions! Because I definitely got caught up in that negativity and it sucked. 

I do think that there’s potentially a bit of an ick factor when pairing Cullen with a mage, but honestly I’ve seen this addressed brilliantly by others (this response in particular is great and made me reconsider a lot of the conclusions I felt I had to come to after reading so many of those anti-cullen metas). 

But it’s also a weirdly personal thing for me because it kind of coincided with me coming to terms with my own sexuality, and now thinking about them together just makes me feel kind of weird and uncomfortable. I think I realised I didn’t find him attractive and the only reason I shipped it was that he seemed like the ‘default’ romance option which was given the most content and favoured by the fandom in a way that wlw romances aren’t. I do still have plenty of m/f ships but this one I just straight-up abandoned because it didn’t sit right with me anymore. 

However I am now much happier shipping Merryn with Josephine! The more I developed her character in my head the more I realised that she and Cullen just…weren’t a good match. It’s like a wlw version of a shitty romcom where the girl realises *gasp* that the right guy girl was in front of her the entire time! As terribly cheesy as that is. 

Woops this got long. TL;DR I don’t think Cullen is a bad character at all, I just don’t necessarily see the ship in the positive way I used to. I shipped it for far too long to really be too negative about him lmao. I’m neutral, I guess?

I don’t like Leliana’s voice! *ducks out of harm’s way* I just find it too…sweet? I’m not 100% sure what it is, but it grates on me. 

22. Popular character you hate?

I wouldn’t say I ‘hate’ any popular characters (at least ones who aren’t villains) but I really don’t get why knight-captain Rylen is so popular in the fandom? I feel like I’m missing something. I mean to each their own but to me he just seems really bland and inconsequential, and I can appreciate people fleshing out characters who weren’t given much in canon, but this guy didn’t even get so much as a cutscene! Is it a templar thing?? Idk if someone would be so kind as to enlighten me that would be great.
