Did you see the new scene that got released for Bridgerton yesterday?? Married Kanthony look so happy and in love!! And Pen is so pretty! I do wish we’d have gotten a glimpse at Colin too but it was still amazing! I’m so excited for the new season!!

YESSS I ate up every second!

I was hoping for a teaser because wow I genuinely can’t believe we don’t have one yet, but since I love kanthony I can’t bitch. THE SMOOTH KISS THE SOFT SMILES? And I’m happy it wasn’t another full Polin scene because I don’t want too much more spoiled, actual scene wise.

Let’s talk about that moment Colin agrees to help Penelope.

I personally think this scene is going to come towards the end of the very first episode. I am assuming this is going to come after the good night Mr. Bridgerton sneak peek where we see Penelope, kind of spill her guts to Colin about overhearing what he’s said and how she’s feeling about herself.

I really think the suitor storyline is in a lot of ways Colin’s penance for what he said in 2.08. If a husband is what Penelope truly wants then Colin is going to go out of his way to make sure his words is not the thing that prevents that from happening. The scenery looks very much like the outside of the featherington house, and I feel like it would be so poetic that this deal would be struck in the same place where Penelope overheard him saying he would never court her.

I also really liked the use of the word friends because it definitely feels like it’s mirroring back to that scene in 2.02. And that episode: also returns from his travels and Penelope is waiting on pins and needles, hoping that the letters between them somehow will Colin’s feeling for her but with he calls her his friend she’s upset to find out that nothing has changed.

In this particular scene, it definitely feels like the opposite. I do still think Penelope has feelings for Colin, but I feel like she wants to shut the door on those feelings and so that moment where she says friends it feels like resignation, her accepting their relationship for what it is, which is friendship. But for Colin, you can see that he feels something more than friendship. I’ve said before I think this moment definitely is the spark for Colin to figure out his feelings

I also love, love, love the use of the bare hands in the scene. We see the scene where Colin kisses the lady’s hand that he is wearing gloves and we see Penelope throughout the trailer in different instances wearing gloves, but in this moment, they both have bare hands and I feel like it’s a really signifying the shedding of previous relationship and them really FINALLY becoming vulnerable with each other

I finally watched all four episodes of season 3 part 1 and I have thoughts, as a fan and as a screenwriter/former romance novelist, and professional director. I didn’t have netflix but I got it for this season. I did this kinds of analyzations and such during Game of Thrones. Hopefully people enjoy reading. Full disclosure, I have not read any of the Bridgerton books. (I’m about three chapters into Romancing Mr. Bridgerton)

First off, give me all the Pen and Colin all the time. I’ve been hoping they get together from season 1 and I’m so happy Shondaland didn’t make us wait another season, as the books go in a different order. There’s a lot of subtle nuance to Pen and Colin’s scenes, Colin always seeking out Pen wherever they are, the tent pastry scene followed by Colin clearly eating the same pastry as Pen did. The tent scene was freaking hot. I said what I said. Things of this nature make their love affair so lush. It’s that journey to getting to the carriage scene that’s so thrilling.

I didn’t mind Francesca’s subplot or the Mondrich one but I do agree with many I’ve seen here that the subplots almost took over. There was a lot of emphasis placed on things other than Pen and Colin which annoyed me somewhat. Hopefully when we get to part 2 there will be more intense focus on Polin and the subplots are just rotating around them because right now, with the pacing of these first four episodes, it’s the opposite. Polin feel as if they are somewhat an afterthought.

The Cressida redemption movement I don’t think will last into part 2. I think all this work is to try and make the audience sympathize with her and then when she goes after Pen, Pen as Lady D, and so forth we are supposed to think “OH! But she was being so nice.” Hopefully I’m wrong and they follow through on her storyline because if they don’t…they wasted a lot of time and storyline on her instead of focusing on Polin.

I’m ambivalent about Lord Debling, so meh. Sorry about it.

Anthony and Kate - absolutely unnecessary but I know why they brought them in. One, he is the Viscount so he would be around. Two, they are fan favorite. I get it. I accept it. It was just wasted real estate for me. But to each their own.

I love Mr. Finch and I LOVED he got to be such a beaming brother-in-law for Pen in the green dress. I do wish they hadn’t shown us the dress reveal in the trailer. It would have been such an awestruck moment for us to see it first in the show. Sweeping cape removal and glittering loveliness.

Pen’s sisters and their race to get pregnant. It’s all a setup for Pen to be pregnant first or with the male heir by the end of the season. Cute but really long winded in getting there. There is a now since deleted promo clip of Pen, with Colin standing behind her, where she takes his hand and places it on her stomach. So we’re getting a pregnancy nod somewhere next part. May even be why she faints in whatever scene they show in the trailer for part 2.

Eloise needs to get her head out of her butt. I don’t think she’s angry Pen is LW but more angry that she didn’t figure out Pen was Whistledown sooner. She’s mad that Pen didn’t try to see her during the offseason, yet she tells her at the end of season 2 to get the fuck out of her life. Get it together Eloise. I love Eloise, don’t get me wrong, I adore her. I just want her to stop acting like an ass and TALK to Pen.

There is discourse about the second Colin threesome scene, but there really shouldn’t be. There’s a reason for it. It showcases that Colin is done with the charade he’s been playing all season. He isn’t the bon vivant, dashing rake he’s supposed to be. It’s jarring but it’s a scene with a purpose.

All the Polin scenes are delightful. The balloon scene might be my favorite - the pastry scene I include in this. And of course the first kiss and the carriage scene (which lives in my head on repeat) but I have to say, I wanted more Polin screen time. I think if we spliced all the Polin scenes together we see that out of four hours of film, they have maybe a cumulative 1 hour of screen time. Which isn’t much for a couple that is the lead of the season. Hopefully the ratio will be better in part two.

Merit badges and raises to the Featherington coachmen and to Pen’s maid Rae. They are MVPs and are totally gossiping about Polin. You know that tea was flowing in the servant’s quarters about the carriage ride…

Scenes I hope we get in part 2.

1. Full on sexfest with Pen and Colin, the likes to rival Daphne and Simon.

2. Whistledown reveal to Colin. First I want him angry - that passionate angry we use in romance novels. The kind where the hero is always “I’m so mad at you right now I can’t see straight but I need you writhing with passion underneath me screaming my name RIGHT NOW!” kind of angry. I want ripped corsets and torn skirts. If you know you know.

3. Pen and Eloise make up.

4. Big stupid lavish wedding.

5. More unhinged Queen Charlotte wigs. Because reasons.

Why Eloise is My Favorite Character

First off, look at that beautiful face. Claudia is deadass pretty. But besides that, she’s the one that has visibly gone through the most character development and it was subtle as well. When I watched season 3 part 2 trailer(garbage like I predicted it’d be) watching Eloise and the maturity and concern she had for her brother, insisting Penelope to tell him, that she can’t lie to him and expect him to love her(which he’ll end up doing anyway but fuck Polin) and even given Penelope a chance to tell him. The mercy she showed Penelope despite what she’s done and the pain she caused her; the trailer made me finally come to the conclusion that she’s my favorite character.

I was iffy bout Eloise at the beginning of season 1. I know many were annoyed with her and said she was a pick me girl—I even thought, “booo, here we go, one of those annoying buffoon feminists who don’t know how good they have it.” She wasn’t annoying, but she sure was self-righteous about women’s roles in society and how they shouldn’t have to be subjected to the marriage mart and all the feminist bible thumping bs and saying this from her ivory tower.

But you know what she did? She walked down those tower steps, willingly left that ivory tower to go expand her views and learn outside of it, something that women in the ton wouldn’t do. She put herself at risk to broaden her horizon.

“You wish to follow your heart. I wish to nurture my mind.”

Eloise didn’t reject Theo’s criticism of her limited understanding and her privileged position. She took that to seek greater understanding beyond what she knows so I really don’t know how in the living shit people think she’s self-absorbed, especially after she starts interacting with Theo.

Eloise is brusque and may come off as abrasive, but she has integrity, is gracious, and is kind-hearted. She sought out LW for a selfless cause: to help Penelope and her family from ruin. She helped LW escape from the Queen.

The times Penelope has come with her crocodile tears, Eloise dropped everything to comfort her despite Pen insulting with her “pretty Bridgerton” comments(but she’s a bad friend, amirite?)

She didn’t see the lower class as beneath her but as people to learn from(but she’s blind to her privilege, right Penelope stan?)

She was one of the few who showed compassion and understanding for Marina's situation. Despite her being sheltered(that a lot of anti-Eloise fans get their rocks off in exaggerating), she knew that Marina was in a shit place and treated shamefully.

She knows there aren’t many women who share her views and thought processes, but that doesn’t stop her from having them and voicing them and hopes that women would also go against social conditioning.

“How else should I be? Married and silent?”

She kept Penelope’s secret for months. She didn’t try to destroy Penelope or get back at her. She just cut her off and moved on with her life. She took the high road in this situation, a thing that some adults don’t even do.

When she realized that her gossiping hurt Penelope, she sought her out, admitted fault, and apologized. That was incredibly brave and mature. She might be angry at Penelope, but she pushed back when Cressida was mean, even apologized to Pen on Cressida’s behalf.. She didn’t push Colin to be cruel to Penelope just because she had a fall out with her. Eloise is A LOT better than me because if I was in her shoes, Colin finding out bout Whistledown would be the least of Penelope’s problems.

Eloise is just a joy to see on screen, especially in S3 where she is literally the only voice of reason and her suffering with this LW business got me weeping(especially since we know Pen will suffer nothing from it). She better have a good conclusion by the end of the season. The show has failed in almost everything this season.

Don’t fail on Eloise.

Thoughts on The Penguin Series before watching it

I see some reviews coming out for the penguin series already, and from what i can tell they’re fairly positive and make me very excited!! but there’s still something a bit off to me and idk i just need to yell it into the void

For context i really liked The Batman! it was a great film, it def brought some hope back to DC films, i enjoyed the interpretations of the characters, and i’m super excited for the next film!! Also for the Penguin, I haven’t seen much promo since the trailer when it first came out. I know DC on instagram has been pushing a few other teasers and sneak peaks but i haven’t watched any of them.

I’m saying all that because ik the Penguin is in capable hands and that there is a very slim chance i’m going to finish the penguin and be disappointed-i’m sure its going to turn out great but rn the premise for it seems kinda…boring??

Like The Penguin starring in a mob drama à-la The Sopranos or The Godfather-great things to take inspiration from! but also seems very basic to me?? like it seems like the safest most basic option for a penguin centric show, which has me feeling kinda disappointed

And my issue is that a mob drama Penguin show could be really cool and interesting!! if the show was willing to include more fantastical elements!! A lot of other mob dramas are grounded and based in the real world but how cool would it be to see someone try to do that surrounded by other villains? a (For the most part) regular guy like Oswald trying to build his empire when people around him have powers and out of this world gadgets? Trying to act somewhat civil with gangs who follow a costumed villain with weird looking goons! Treating all of that with the same seriousness as a typical mob drama cause that’s just the city Oswald lives in but he’s gonna do whatever it takes to make it his and get the respect he deserves!!

But Reeves has already discussed the possibility of fantastical stuff within his version of the batman, and from my understanding, it’s meant to be very “grounded” which…like i said i trust the people behind this version of the batman i know they can make great things!! i just wish we got more “Fantastical” batman stories, and just from what we’ve seen, the penguin series has me feeling a bit meh cause it seems kinda bland on paper, and i fear it’ll be kinda basic, so it’s definitely a case of i’m gonna have to see it to see if it’s any good (and i’m pretty sure it’s gonna be great)

hey so when i said i liked the interpretations in The Batman I lied. Oswald character wise is fine!! His attitude, Colin Farrell’s performance, all great!! what i take issue though is with his appearance, and this falls back into the issue of doing “grounded” batman stories

Oswald, at least physically, shouldn’t really look realistic. Yeah short, fat people with pointy noses exist, but for Penguin it has to be hella exaggerated and you need to take into consideration other bird or penguin-like features, and that’s why Farrell’s prosthetics don’t really do it for me (also i saw that thing where he complained about his prosthetics)

Again, I really enjoyed his performance in The Batman, and I’m sure he’s gonna do great in The Penguin, but they used all of the prosthetics to just make Farrell look like another person who probably already exists out there. They didn’t really do anything interesting with it, nothing to make him particularly “ugly” which to me, is important to his character, when you consider how Oswald wants to be accepted by “high society” a group that especially cares about appearance, especially in Gotham.

That’s just in the face, and when it comes to his body I do not like it. The way they made his body Farrell doesn’t even look fat?? Especially with his height he looks more built than anything (google says he’s 5’10”? far from short) It leads to him looking intimidating, which he shouldn’t be, at least physically. The Penguin isn’t scary because of how he looks, he’s scary cause he’s The Penguin. Without his title, his power, his reputation, he should look like someone even a pretty regular person could take in a fight (ik there are interpretations where Oswald is a trained fighter!! but i’m meh on them i don’t mind if they make him a fighter i just prefer it when he isn’t). Farrell’s Penguin just doesn’t really have that “pathetic-ness” i feel most Oswald’s should have, at least with his appearance

TLDR- my hopes for the Penguin are both extremely high and extremely low at the same time-also if ur gonna do prosthetics do something interesting, and bring back short, fat, and “ugly” Oswalds

I have such a love hate relationship with the Bridgerton fandom.

I’m on the Polin Bridgeron sub Reddit and it’s been such a postive and safe place for Polin fans (and the mods also do a podcast which is brilliant) but the Bridgerton sub Reddit is an entirely different story - it’s mostly Kate and Anthony fans (which is fine) but some of the comments they have made about Luke and Nicola and Polin on there are not it. I’ve taken a huge step back from the main hub, but I’ve seen very little season 3 Polin on there, it’d mainly season 3 Kate and Anthony.

I seem to root for ships and people that are not popular - both summed up in Polin, and I really hope that people actually praise Luke and Nicola for their acting, rather than their glow up appearance, because like you I’m seeing more comments being more accepting Colin because of Luke’s appearance in the trailer… but there are some genuine actor moments from him in the trailer that have just blew me away.

I don’t go on Reddit bc I had one bad experience my first time using it and never looked back lmao it’s a totally different beast than any other social I’ve used before 😭. That being said, I think it’s fine for one pairing to be more popular than another, because that’s just what happens in shows, but I find even now a lot of people who are fans of previous pairings/seasons are absolutely dog piling on this Polin season and the only reasonably conclusion I can make as to why is they don’t view polin as conventional leads or deem them at tractable enough to want to fantasize about their relationship or weird self inserts.

I’ve come to love and appreciate them both as actors because they’re just THAT phenomenally good at what they do and now that they get an entire story dedicated to them we finally get see that talent in full!! I love that people are coming around to them and opening up to investing in the pairing, but the vitriol and hatred that’s also come with it for both the characters and actors playing them is MIND BOGGLING to me!! I just want them to enjoy their season and not have to look on this time with bad memories bc people want to be insane and vile towards them. I hope they don’t come to dissociate themselves from the Bridgerton series because of these crazy obsessive people who have it out for them for just simply existing.

Watched Bridgerton with a bit too much wine and a new cross-stitch. Immediate thoughts:

highly watchable. Four hours sped by. Whatever else it might be, it's a very addictive, winning formula. Liked it much more than I anticipated despite feeling that a) Penelope's unrequited friends-to-lovers fantasy is going to hit me very hard and b) Colin Bridgerton is not attractive and never will be.

Francesca Francesca Francesca!!! I don't remember much about her book and from the trailers/promo pics didn't think much of the new actress but I am now obsessed with Francesca. Adore her being autistic coded with a music special interest. Adore that for her. Adore the music. Absolutely everything. She's my girl!!!!!! Love her being silent with John. I'm so sad knowing what happens but I want this for her. I cant stop thinking about how he listened to her info dump about that violinist and then got the damn piece transcribed for her to play. I mean. Listen. My hear, you guys, my heart. I don't care about anything or anyone else!

Penelope's glow-up is awesome.

Love Alice and Will Mondrich. Again, did not see this coming but finding their storyline pretty cool.

Love that we get more Hyacinth. She's my favourite Bridgerton because when I read her book I related to her so hard I had some kind of life crisis, so the fact she has more to do and is growing up just fills me with joy.

Weirdly love the Featheringtons and the very bizarre inheritance/pregnancy plot. The girls don't know what sex is and neither do their loser husbands? The whole thing is so utterly off the wall, it's compelling! Their S02 plot was so dull but I'm finding this completely bonkers and compelling. Maybe it's the wine?

Cressida and Eloise??!!! Like, Cressida is ticking all my "mean rich bitch with unexpected trauma and hidden depths" box and I hate myself for it but there we go. Here for it. I hope she isn't completely villainised.

Eloise's development baffles me. I hate that she's all "I'm not like other girls" with the sewing and she seems to veer towards learning that maybe she can get on with girls and change and then she's dragged back into her insufferable superiority. And how is the character who is written like this supposed to end up as the stepmum to Marina Crane's children vegetating in the countryside? It does not make sense at all for show!Eloise. Actually the only thing that makes sense is to make her a lesbian, or at least bi, which would be in keeping with her "I don't fit in/I'm different" narrative. Otherwise... what? ngl I want Cressida/Eloise fanfic and I did not think that would be my takeaway from this show when I woke up today.

Colin is just not sexy. He's not sexy, he has an unsexy name (4th on my ranking of "how sexy are the Bridgerton boys' names" btw: 1 is Benedict obv - top tier sexy name; 2 is Anthony - mid-level but clearly worked for Cleopatra, has definite potential in the right circumstances; 3 is Gregory - not sexy especially if abbreviated but could work with a lot of effort in a particularly charming individual but Colin? Nope. Can you imagine screaming "COLIN!" in the heights of passion? No, didn't think so.) And I just don't buy him as a character. Why must maturity and new-found confidence equal having threesomes? He lacks coherency to me. Oh well. I don't hate him but I would take John Stirling's silence and top tier gift giving or Lord Debling's honesty, kindness, and dedicated to real interests over his... whatever it is is Colin has... any day.

Penelope's glow-up is great and she looks hot af and I'm here for it and her arc is certainly compelling but it's actually... not the most compelling part of the show for me. Whoops!

The dig about embroidery was very unnecessary.

Don't know what Benedict is doing in this plot but he's still very entertaining and has more character than Colin.

Yeah. I enjoyed it way more than expected and I only feel mildly heartbroken about the whole friends-to-lovers thing but that's probably the wine. Part 2 is released on my birthday so happy birthday to me, I guess!!

OH MAN DONT GET ME STARTED ON NATE AND REDEMPTION. i so badly want nate to be redeemed!!! i was all for jamie being redeemed. all of season 1 i was wondering when and how it was going to happen. and then in the last ep of season 1 when he makes the extra pass for the win against richmond it was such a bittersweet moment because like HE IS CHANGING BUT RICHMOND LOST. but it gives you hope! and then jamie finally got that redemption in season 2 and i was so happy for it. and all through season 2 watching nate just getting lower and meaner and angrier was so rough but in the time between season 2 and season 3 i have been anticipating a nate redemption. and once season 3 trailers came out and more people started talking about predictions i heard so many people say shit about how much they hate nate and how they DONT WANT a redemption for him?? like i started feeling like i was the only one REALLY HOPING for nate’s redemption. which SHOCKED me because isn’t this whole show about kindness??? and forgiveness and all those warm fuzzy feelings? we got a rebecca redemption and a jamie redemption and so WHY would we not get a nate redemption?? it makes no sense to me and it frustrates me to no end. part of what made his descent so painful to watch was because he was so endearing in season 1. and i want to see him become a better person! i want all of them to become better people!! I agree with you about EVERYTHING. Watching Jamie be redeemed (though I do think he still needs to apologise to Nate) was brilliant and it was so emotional to watch that process, especially as it was revealed that his behaviour was largely due to his abusive father. Him working through that toxic relationship and getting support from team members like Roy, Higgins and Ted was so imporant to his development, and I am sure that this season we will also see Nate stand up to his father and start defining himself outside of what other people think of him.

I am honestly still shocked when I see people hating on Nate so much, and saying that he is beyond redemption. I have no idea how someone could watch the show and think that, because to me it's very obvious that there will be a Nate redemption arc. I mean, series 1 ended with Rebecca being forgiven so quickly by Ted that it pleasantly surprised me; Higgins was forgiven by Rebecca; Keeley forgave Rebecca (and Nate); as you said Jamie has been improving throughout both seasons, as have the other members of the team. Though I think we need to remember that while it's great that Jamie, Colin, Isaac and everyone else have been evolving as people, they still bullied Nate and never apologised. And the other players watched and let it happen; Roy only intervened when Ted "manipulated" him into it, and he was the Team Captain! I'm not hating on them here, I like them all, but this all contributed to Nate's insecurities and subsequent actions. I mean, can you imagine working with people like that for God knows how many years, making a hell of a lot less money than them, and then seeing them all go on their own ~personal journeys~ and not apologising to you once??

Nate has so many unresolved issues, to do with his father, with the players, and the misunderstanding around the picture he gifted to Ted. I understand not liking him, because betraying Ted like that was nasty, but that doesn't mean he is beyond redemption. I mean, Trent Crimm didn't have to write that article just because he was given the power to, but he did face the consequences of his actions and seems to have been forgiven. Ted definitely wants to talk to Nate, and wants to forgive him, and I don't think Nate really understands that. I think he wants to feel powerful, and to make people know how much power he has over them, because he was so belittled and disempowered for so long. He's going to be a very unpopular coach at West Ham, even if they are successful in the League (which they may not be, seeing as loyalty and compassion are important in teambuilding, and Nate also doesn't explain to players what they did wrong, instead just calling them stupid).

Also I'm lowkey nervous for him. If West Ham don't do well Rupert will turn on him so fast. Perhaps Rebecca will play an important role here, seeing as she clearly still hasn't fully recovered from her relationship with Rupert? (I wonder if Rebecca will forgive Rubert this season, not because he deserves it or is seeking forgiveness, but in order to allow herself to truly move on and be happy?) I also think/hope Jamie will be integral to Nate's redemption, seeing as he's partly responsible for his fall in the first place.

So yeah you are most definitely not alone in your Nate appreciation. There's a a good few people who like him as a character and believe he will be redeemed. That's what the show is all about.

Yeah I get what you mean. The episode was fine for me but that was kinda it. There were some storylines I thought were interesting but I was disappointed they weren’t really delved into. Ted’s son bullied a kid, Rebecca presumably found out she can no longer have children, Zava retired and now Colin is back on the staring lineup, but instead of having these really interesting things focused on for more than like two scenes each we get half the episode devoted to setting up an ultimately futile and let’s face it, problematic, “relationship”.

I get ppl are excited abt Keeley being bi but I don’t get how some ppl are so focused on it being wlw that they aren’t paying attention to the fact that it obviously has no future. First off not only is Jack Keeley’s boss, she is the backer of her company. Meaning, Jack owns KJPR and literally holds the fate of it in her hands. So it’s Sam/Rebecca x100. Jack seems cool and hopefully the relationship really is just two ppl having no strings fun for a bit, but we don’t really know her – this could potentially end very very bad for Keeley. Keeley is not over Roy, it’s too painful for her to even say his name, and a part of the reason they broke up is bc she didn’t have as much time running a new company. And it is heavily implied that they will get back together, we even see them holding hands in the trailer. What happens if Jack wants a relationship? She absolutely has the power to destroy Keeley’s career if things go badly. What if Barbara finds out? She’s very by the book, I could definitely see her reporting them both. I’m glad that the show is letting Keeley be less than perfect and make (really big) mistakes but I am STRESSED for her! And I feel so bad for Roy. He really thought he was doing the right thing for both of them and I just want them both to regain their senses and just fucking make each other happy again!

And second: as a bi woman myself, as much as I loved seeing actual rep on my screen it was soured so quickly because I have no fucking idea what the writers are doing with Roy and Keeley.

Keeley has had a tendency to define herself by her relationships and what I’m hoping this thing with Jack is a) a fling which brings her back to Roy or b) a parallel to Tedbecca.

Neither of which serve Keeley or Jack although the latter would be much more interesting.

As for…everything else. It just felt like a filler episode to me. It was already implied Rebecca had fertility issues (I.e. her calling the psychic cruel when she brought up that she’s going to be a mother) and Zava’s whole retirement felt super rushed. I honestly expected more of a reaction from the players and Ted but we didn’t get one and we didn’t even get a realization that he was bad for the team.

Also idk I feel like a lot of the players have taken a backseat? This season?

Like there’s almost no Roy exploration outside of his relationship and we could get a very compelling narrative about Isaac but we’re not and I love the Colin storyline but it seems like it’s the only one we’re getting.

JAMIE TARTT !!!!! it's actually so crazy because if you asked me this like a year ago i would have said without a doubt that it was keeley (and don't get me wrong i still ADORE HER) but jamie really started growing on me in s2 and then this season he is becoming a comfort character for me !! some of the best character development i have seen on a tv show !!

this next episode is jamie centred and i believe we are finally getting the scene of roy and keeley in jamie's childhood bedroom that was in the trailer so i am SO excited to see phil dunster act his ass off in this next episode !! i want to hopefully see more of sam and simi but idk whether we will get that, also i am intrigued to see what they are going to do with ted / michelle, i don't want them back together but i have a feeling that ted might move back home or something bc he misses henry quite a bit and i think part of him feels guilty for being away from him. i am honestly not sure how they are going to wrap a bunch of this up with only two episodes left like there's still so much i feel that has been chucked into this season and i fear we will leave with some unanswered questions. obviously nate is going to get redeemed fully (which i think these last few episodes have done a good job of this), roykeeley endgame is looking like a go again and trent's progression of dressing v gay and helping colin with his journey has been wonderful to watch !! i am now going to stop bc lordy this got long but yes i have a lot of thoughts about it hahaha

Well, my game just changed by a fucking lot. I just lost my entire alliance AND Champ. I at least have Steven, who kind of got me into this mess, and Kaleigh but I haven't talked game with her at all. I've gotta assume Steven has been talking with her through the screen cap challenge so I hope we can stick together. They're at least both strong in challenges. But Champ let me know that Raffy is here to play and that he plays WELL, so I've either gotta go for him first or figure out what I can do to get on his good side. I really like Alex and Kaleigh. My biggest allies were Drea and Raffy, but drea had to leave so that kind of messed some things up. I don't feel super secure. Probably going to have to flip and go Raffy when it comes to it. The other 3 seem too tight. Raffy is my biggest threat since we are the only 2 Calypso left on this tribe. We're both targets. My path to the end is going to be paved with friendship and challenge wins. Will hunt when I have time!

okay what else… i like michael, he seems chill and we talked a little about tv stuff. i get the distinct feeling that raffy has zero interest in working with me. steven and alex have both mentioned talking to him privately about the game and i’m like bro he rly isn’t talking to me LMAO like his bio is like “i’m a book nerd!” so i messaged him day 1 and was like omg me too, u reading anything good? and he was like no i’ve been busy. and the convo died right there LMAO which like, sure ok, ur busy… but i’ve never met a book nerd who didn’t like LEAAAPPPPPPP on a chance to talk to another book person about their favs or what they’ve been reading or whatever. so yeah that feels a little sticky bc it seems like raffy is talking about the game with evvvvveryone in my tribe except me. BUT i feel good about my alliance with steven and alex and hopefully zee and champ toooooooooooooo if i make it to the mergey merge.

Ok I have a lot to say. So from this tribe swap, I actually didn’t mind how I got swapped. Steven was with me and Andrea was with me. I didn’t feel swap screwed and felt that I was in a good position to survive till either merge or the next swap. However, then Andrea had to leave game. Now I kind of feel all alone. Sure there’s Michael but I don’t really know where I stand with him. And Steven does have some connections with Kaleigh and Alex from original tribes. I’m definitely worried about next tribal.

I did find like 4 advantages though! One challenge advantage, one transparent advantage, one advantage to talk to someone on another tribe, and an idol! So I’m swimming in riches at this point. I feel much more confident with these tools by my side.

During the challenge, my tribe was a little annoying with getting good clips that weren’t bad. Also not Kaleigh just outright refusing to send me b-roll lol. That rubbed me the wrong way. And I wish I pushed more for not doing vertical cause it did look bad and had to use some BS excuse on the judges so they wouldn’t dock too many points. Right now my tribe rankings goes as follows from best to “I wanna vote out first”: Steven, Alex, Michael, Kaleigh. I put Kaleigh in the bottom because early in the morning she locked in her vote for Alex to go on the excursion without discussing it with anyone! Like that’s shady and lets me know they might be working together. Well now I wanna go on excursion so that duo doesn’t get their way.

Seriously - that's what I feel like this morning. Everyone's favorite ACE auntie eman is having a very rough time being positive this morning, but that doesn't mean I'll stop trying.

Anyway . . . TONY and I are getting on very well. And I've had a few good one-on-one conversations with Kolby(!) (who is probably too young to know why the exclamation point after his name makes me giggle with memories of a failed presidential run from a former governor of Florida) and I wish he would engage as actively in the primary chat.

Tanner also started a chat with me and then ghosted after I replied. I've called Kathryn out in the primary but I might try something with her privately today--bonding over the shared "mom" role or something cuz I refuse to just give up. Yeah, I'm kinda bummed at being abandoned (although I did tell Steven I would accept his decision regardless, and part of me maybe wonders if he let me go because he knew I would fare well on my own and could then come back, so it just means Astyn didn't do their homework and/or Steven persuaded them not to pick me--and/or based on my bio I was unappealing . . . there's a lot of ways I could read this, and--like I said, I'm trying to stay positive and keep fighting). Now to go back to trying to be the fluffer and puffer upper . . .

I'm also bizarrely optimistic about my chances of surviving on this non-participatory tribe and making the merge . . . and then who knows!

So, this was a chaotic time. We swapped around tribes a couple times and then got set with a "challenging challenge" with a very short time limit (ಥ⌣ಥ). I can't believe we managed to get a movie trailer made in just a couple days, and everyone actually helped out in making it! Color me surprised ( ﾟДﾟ). But I'm really happy with the tribe members I ended up with, they're all pretty awesome! ( ᐛ ) Everyone worked really hard on the trailer, and I still can't believe we had such a master of acting on our team ( Tony, you're a savant ( ˘ ³˘)♥ ). And Emily got everything so quickly edited, managing to work with the rest of us giving her clips last minute (especially me!), I think they really carried the team in this round. It was a ton of fun making the trailer, and everyone really put themselves out there. I believe I'll be the one getting voted off this round, but it's all good since I'll be moving on to greater things, like long plane rides, and babysitting. If He Was YOUR Fan Chapter 29: The 5 W’s (A Henry Cavill Fan Fic)

CHAPTER 29: The 5 W’s

Henry gets up and gets an extra blanket. “There’s a bit of a chill in here.”

“Henry.”

“I’ll turn on the heater, told you you’d need it.”

“Yes, thank you,” you nod. “Henry.”

“What?”

“Why?”

He sighs. “Why what?”

“It was Cynthia, wasn’t it?” You ask. You hear him take a deep breath. “Why?”

“How did you know?” he asks, getting back in bed with you.

“Before I passed out I saw the look on Cynthia’s face,” you whisper, looking at the kitten. “She didn’t care what happened to me. Everyone else looked worried or distraught.”

“When you were rushed to our medical unit, I realized everyone we suspected were all together,” Henry exhaled. “I started asking questions.”

“You investigated them?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, go, Sherlock,” you joke softly.

“It was so serious, love.”

You sober, realizing how upset he was with what he learned.

“Cynthia and Hannah are sisters.”

“What?”

“Same father, different mothers,” Henry explains. “Cynthia got Hannah the job here. When you were left behind during the storm, I got a criss cross of answers. Hannah said that Colin told her you left, but Colin and Cynthia blamed each other. Cynthia is above Colin, so it’s easy to believe he took her word for it, which makes sense since you usually check out with Colin.”

“Okay.”

“That was one red flag,” Henry went on. “Gracie was jealous of you, but it was Cynthia who told her what Hannah suspected about us, and knew once she got Gracie riled, sending you to the trailer would start the fireworks.” He shakes his head. “That was all Gracie had done. I had a word or two with her, and Gracie was out of play for Cynthia to toy with.”

“What did you—” You stop, realizing that Henry still wasn’t going to tell you what happened between Gracie and him. “Go on.”

“The bike accident,” he continues. “This is when Colin suspected that Cynthia does not mean well with you. He knew that Cynthia went looking for my Durrell Challenge run site in the van, because she dropped people off at the bar before going. Gracie knew where I was running because she ran it, but wouldn’t share the information. Cynthia sent Colin to get the van fixed and made sure you got all of the work for the day. She thought to get you in trouble for not doing your list, but you did it all, unknowingly protecting you and Colin both from her.”

“God.”

“Have you checked in with Cynthia since then?”

“No, Colin told me to…” You realize what happened. “He told me to check in with him, said I covered for him that day. I figured I was helping, but not like this.”

“Hannah hit it off with Archer, so Cynthia lost her flunkie,” Henry shook his head. “so now she had to act on her own. Her mistake was using confidential information. Your allergy was on record, but not common knowledge. And…” his voice trails off. “You said you had allergies, but not extreme. Only the doctor knew about the epi-pen, and I saw it the day you undressed after getting caught in the storm. You were trying to dry out the leg pack and you left it open.”

“I’ve never used one till now,” you explain. “I—”

“I’m just glad I saw it that night,” Henry smiles gently. “I didn’t ask about it, but I remembered you had it. When I saw what happened at the party, I knew the signs already because I’d taken classes about first aid and such. Hannah could feel she was up to something, and that was why she warned you. I’m not sure Cynthia knew how bad your allergy was. That’s why she was frozen watching you. She didn’t know how to react. I saw her, too.”

“Why?”

Henry averts his eyes. “Cynthia had hopes of becoming an actress. She wanted to get close to the leads, try to make connections. She befriended Gracie by hating you because of me, but then that didn’t work out, and used Hannah to get information about you since you met in London. She was jealous of you, aggravated that Hannah didn’t get the connection either. She had no chance with me, none, and that pushed her further.”

You shake your head. “No wonder you don’t date people out of the business.”

“She was in the business, just not the way she wanted,” he shakes his head. “She’ll be sacked by the time you return to work. Colin will take her responsibilities. I think he can do it, and you can assist him.”

“Seriously?”

“Well, after all that work you did, and us not wanting to bring anyone new in, it seems the practical solution, darling.”

You lay there, silent.

“Are we okay?”

“What?”

“This is…partially because of me.”

“No, this is partially because someone made a whole bunch of bad choices, trying to make short cuts instead of just working hard.” You feel sad. “I understand it.”

“You do?”

“This is a hard business to get into,” you whisper. “She’s fallen off, by the way.”

“Oh…” Henry looks to see the kitten asleep and puts the bottle away.

“She is out.”

“Yeah.”

You look at your watch and set it for four hours.

“Next feeding?”

“Yes,” you say. “Anyway, Cynthia had a dream, got impatient, even scared.”

“Do you?”

“Of course!” you laugh. “I love writing. It is who I am. I am not me if I don’t write, love.” Your breath hitches as you realize you’ve never called him that, but it slipped as naturally as breathing. He gives a small smile. “The ultimate dream for so many is to get paid to do what you love. So many don’t. You get hopeful, hopeless, desperate.”

“You never asked me.”

“For what?”

“Anything.”

“I had always hoped I would get there on my own, you know?”

“Shedding light on you still means you do.”

“Maybe,” you shrug. “But I didn’t want you to think—”

“Think what?” His look tells you that whatever you’re going to say is ridiculous.

“I’m trying to use you or something,” you say in a rush. “You have a lot of gifts, Henry, and influence is way down the list for me.”

You share a look, and you are all but saying it, still lacking the courage. He picks the kitten up and swaddles it carefully in the small towel. “I don’t know where to put her.”

“A food container would be perfect,” you giggle.

He smiles and gets out of bed. He returns with the newborn in a rectangular container and hands it to you. You turn and put it in front of you and Henry spoons you.

“What do we name her?”

“Keeping her, are we?”

“She needs a name, Henry.”

“We’ll think of something,” he yawns gathering you close. “Sleep now.”

Using this video as a segue into this post, which ignores the dregs of the Fandom Menace who were never going to like this movie and just distills the five main points made by critics.

1. It threw away what The Last Jedi established. 2. It's too chock-full of stuff and with too rushed a pace.  3. It has no deep themes and nothing insightful to say. 4. It lacks imagination and is all rehashing and nostalgia-bait fanservice. 5. It's a disappointing ending to both a trilogy and a nine-film saga.

1. This criticism seems to recur the most, since critics didn’t just like TLJ and Rian Johnson’s vision for the franchise, they loved it; they were blown away by it. So naturally it cuts deep when they see TROS set back a lot of what TLJ established (Rey actually does come from a noteworthy lineage, actually does have to undergo true Jedi training, and even ends up becoming a Skywalker. Finn is back to hanging out with Rey rather than Rose, and Rose herself has a minor role. Poe is prone to being reckless and hot-tempered again. Luke isn’t a grumpy old man anymore. Kylo Ren, after reforging his old mask, is redeemed while a decrepit old wielder of the Dark Side is the Big Bad. Hux doesn’t get much of a role and is killed off midway through. The Force-sensitive children like that “broom boy” don’t factor into anything. The story takes a familiar path rather than subverting audience expectations.) Honest Trailers even joked that the film was the long-awaited sequel to The Force Awakens rather than to The Last Jedi. And I can understand this critique, it’s a valid one to make. 

But I’d also have to argue that not only is J.J Abrams entitled to bring the story back in line with his old ideas from his time making TFA since Disney and Lucasfilm specifically reached out to him to direct TROS (and c’mon, Rian Johnson threw out TFA’s establishment first, if it’s wrong of J.J then it was wrong of Rian too), and that a film that exactly followed TLJ’s establishment like Colin Trevorrow’s unproduced Duel of the Fates would feel too bleak and wrong for the franchise, but that the movie doesn’t ignore TLJ as much as it’s made out. The events of TLJ still happened exactly as we saw them, they are still acknowledged, and they are even built upon in interesting ways. I loved seeing Luke no longer a grumpy old man because that’s what TLJ’s climax set up with him: he learned the error of his ways and re-embraced his status as a Jedi and as a legend. The galaxy coming to the Resistance’s aid in the final battle is the perfect pay-off to them not doing so in the Battle of Crait and shows how Luke’s last stand really did inspire hope once more. I loved the three-way power struggle in the First Order between Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, Hux and (representing Palpatine’s interests) Pryde. I thought Palpatine being behind Snoke made perfect sense. I’m glad Rose was still present at all. I though Kylo Ren’s redemption was handled very well. And I loved Rey becoming a Skywalker in the end, that just felt like such a right conclusion to me.

2. There’s an easy explanation as to why it’s chock-full with stuff - Kathleen Kennedy didn’t require Rian Johnson to adapt any of it in TLJ even though much of it was conceived by J.J Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan when making TFA. J.J literally needed to fit two movies’ worth of content into this one movie because TLJ spent too much time wheel-spinning and navel-gazing (and keep in mind that I like TLJ; but I’m not going to pretend like it didn’t screw the pooch on multiple fronts). As for the pace, I definitely agree when it comes to the first act and whoever thought it was a good idea to excise so much of what was filmed for it needs to be slapped upside-down the head. But things start to improve after the big Pasaana canyon race, and once they get off Pasaana altogether the pace settles down into the usual SW film groove. I think critics were so burned by that first half-hour that it colored their impression of the rest of the film, even when looking at it objectively the rest of the film does have a lot more breathing room and calmer, introspective moments between the big action set pieces. 

3. I see this a lot from critics and am all...?????? I’m sorry, did we watch the same movie!? “They win by making you think you’re alone, but there’s more of us”. “Your mother’s gone. But what she stood for, what she fought for.... that’s not gone.”  “We had each other. That’s how we won.” “Your spirit...your heart...some things are stronger than blood”. These themes are every bit as spelled out as the themes from TLJ that critics praised so much...but then, critics thought that one of TLJ’s themes was the villain’s justification of his own atrocities (”Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to”) so maybe them missing all of these themes isn’t so surprising. 

4. First off, the “lacking imagination” criticism will always astound me when The Force Awakens is one of the most critically praised films in the series and it literally ripped off the entire plot structure of A New Hope. None of the “member berries” in this film came close to that level of rehashing. Secondly, Star Wars has been all about nostalgia and pleasing crowds (”fanservice”) since its inception, and recycling various set-ups and tropes and sequences has been a thing for a long time (to quote George Lucas: “It’s like poetry, they rhyme.”) And lastly, this is the finale to the Skywalker Saga, so of fucking course it’ll be full of nostalgia and fanservice and sequences reminiscent of all the previous films! It’s a celebration as well as a send-off! Avengers: Endgame is a critical darling, and it literally traveled back in time to several of the past movies that led up to it! So what’s the problem here? I, for one, thought it was very cleverly and seamlessly done for the most part, and being done in the framework of a dumb, goofy blockbuster (which was all Star Wars was originally meant to be; it was never meant to be taken as seriously as it unfortunately has).

5. The main reasoning behind this criticism is that TROS fully exposes and embodies Disney and Lucasfilm’s lack of planning when it came to the Sequel Trilogy, which is so disheartening that it makes this finale a disappointing one to both the trilogy and the whole saga. First of all, every finale has been considered disappointing in their times: ROTJ was possibly even more loathed by fans and critics (while still enjoyed by general audiences) than TROS, and while ROTS got middling reviews from critics, it was still considered to be flat-out bad just like its predecessors by fans - being the least bad of them wasn’t high praise (even the general audience enjoyment seemed more tepid compared to ROTJ and TROS). On all fronts, the perception of the movies only improved with age, so that will likely be the same case here.

More importantly, anyone who did their homework or even some simple critical thinking not only could have realized that there was no plan for the Sequel Trilogy from the days of TLJ, but from the days of TFA. From the moment that movie rehashed the plot of A New Hope and relied heavily on Mystery Boxes to hook viewers, I knew there was no solid plan for this trilogy and that they were making it up as they went along. When you’re aware of this fact well in advance, I think that you end up being more impressed by TROS for being able to wrap the trilogy and saga up in the tight, definitively close-ended way that it did. I know that I certainly was. Much of this had to do with J.J Abram’s idea to bring back Palpatine. People whine that he was brought in with no foreshadowing at the last minute and that he was nowhere near the Sequel Trilogy beforehand and that him being here makes ROTJ pointless, and yet not only was Palpatine everywhere near the whole saga from the very beginning (which, as J.J has said, would make it bizarre for it to end without him), but ROTJ was already made pointless by TFA by its decision to reverse all the heroes’ victories and bring back the Empire. If Palpatine, the Emperor, the very creator of the Empire, did not find a way to return from his defeat in ROTJ and was thus not behind the Empire’s resurrection, how fucking cheap would that be? Some random other decrepit, all-powerful Dark Side wielder just came along and brought it back to the point of reversing all the heroes’ victories? And then he gets supplanted by Han and Leia’s son, which would make the Sequel Trilogy and whole saga’s Final Boss the guy who humiliatingly got his ass handed to him in both previous films’ climaxes? IMHO, the Sequel Trilogy really would suck if that was what it amounted to! That would be a true “disappointing ending to both a trilogy and a nine-film saga.” When it comes to the film series (the Skywalker Saga), the only valid excuse for not ending the conflict with the Empire in ROTJ is if the Emperor wasn’t truly vanquished in it. Period.

It ain’t J.J’s fault that he was actually looking at the bigger picture while critics were not.
