Summary:

Zane is a lovely singer, with a flair for romantic barbershop staples. Pixal thinks it's adorable.

"Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal," Zane crooned, twirling a boutonniere rose between his fingers as he held it out to Pixal. "Send me a kiss by wire; baby, my heart's on fire," he continued as she smiled– if she could, she would have blushed.

"Zane, what are you doing?" Pixal asked, laughter evident in her voice.

Zane smiled at her, his twinkling eyes giving away his mirth. "Do you not like me singing to you?"

Pixal laughed, covering her mouth with the hand that held his flower. "No, I do. Where is this coming from?"

Zane smiled in response, a tad sheepish. "I just thought you'd like it. I thought you'd like a romance like in the movies."

Pixal smiled. "Is that what this is about?" She pinned the rose back into his lapel. "Zane, I like everything you do."

He grinned. "Then you must know... If you refuse me, honey, you'll lose me, and then you'll be left alone. Oh, baby, telephone and tell me that you're mine." He took her hand and kissed it oh-so-gently. "I love you, Pixal."

Pixal smiled, putting her other hand on his cheek. "I love you too, Zane." She kissed him gently. "I love every part of you."

I both wanna write a fic eventually that’s just a collection of random DCLA characters going on multiverse trips due to different reasons. Maybe someone wants to see how it would be if they dated their friend ”just for fun’s sake”, so they go to a universe in which they are dating said friend. Maybe an angstier one where someone wants to see what would have happened if they were never born. Maybe someone really needs to learn a lesson so they go to a universe in which they never have learned their lessons and what happens to them then.

I also wanna write a drabble/oneshot collection of Cadmila being childhood enemies. So essentially all drabbles/oneshots will just be them as children bickering, pulling pranks on each other and getting into mischief, while also somehow always needing to be in the same room despite the adults trying to separate them. The thing with this one though is that I feel like i’m only gonna end up writing like 3 little oneshots, say I’m gonna write more eventually and never do, and then abandon it forever until I decide to either delete the fic or orphan it. So what I could do is simply post them on Tumblr. The problem is that stuff on Tumblr disappear so easily, so in that case I need a special tag I can ”bokmark” on the blog archive so people can find it quickly without it disappearing in the search bar. When I think about it, I might wanna do this with a lot of ideas I have that I’m not sure would fit on ao3, so maybe I’ll make it a thing 🤔

With the first one with the multiverse trips though, I really want to write that and post it on ao3. I just need to come up with some characters that multiverse travel and why. You can give me some ideas if you want. I have this far written three multiverse trips before: One with Violetta and Francesca, one with Luna and Ámbar, and one with two next gens

Everyone has things they don't want to read; ships, kinks, tropes, fandoms and so on and so forth. People are generally pretty good about tagging stuff like that to make fics both easier to find and easier to avoid (with some exceptions, you know which fics I'm talking about).

((People who think ao3 has an algorithm (it doesn't, it's an archive) and mistag stuff for "visibility" are their own can of worms and I'm not here to talk about them.))

And while tagging isn't technically a requirement (except for the big warning tags where you can choose the "the creator chose not to use archive warnings" which is a warning for readers in and of itself), it has largely become part of fandom culture.

I'm actually here mostly to talk about something to add to the tagging system in the additional tags section. It would be useful for readers who want this content, and readers who find this content annoying - because I do think the biggest cripe anyone can have with it, is annoyance. This content being tagged and thus easily excluded in the filters would thus lessen people's annoyance with the content, which would probably make for a more peaceful fandom experience for everyone.

I would like Reader Insert fics to actually use the tag "Reader" or "Reader Insert" or both. Some do (thank you so much!) and some only have the "canon character/reader" ship tag which, while great for scrolling, does mean it's a bit hidden. People who do not care for Reader Inserts cannot exclude all such fics with one or two tags, but have to tag all of them in the exclusion filters separately, which can honestly get very tiring. And annoying.

And people who want to read Reader Inserts could find new pairings faster by having an easy way to find only those fics, without all the canon, au, or crack pairings cluttering their search. I sometimes encounter an intriguing ship while scrolling and check it out based on the fact that I had never heard of it before and want to know what it's about. That could be made easier for Reader Inserts too.

Secondly, Multifandom Oneshot Collections (and Multifandom Drabble Collections - the misuse of the word drabble is not something I'm going to get into today as I generally don't even read true drabbles because they're too short for my tastes lol) posted as one fic. These are occasionally tagged as crossovers and often not, but whichever the case is, it's currently necessary to exclude unwanted fandoms one by one in the filters. This is whether the reader is looking for crossovers in a specific fandom, or just fics in specific fandom in general.

Basically, I would just love for there to be an agreed upon tag for these types of fics, both so I can find them when the fancy strikes, and avoid them if I would like a good long crossover instead. Or an otp:true equivalent but fandom:true instead - granted fandom like Marvel or DC with a gazillion fandom tags in one place might have troubles with these searches but I'm just spitballing. I'm not asking wonderful ao3 mods to do that, they do enough for the sake of us mere mortals (you're wonderful 💙🩵).

A tag would be easiest and even if some people don't use it, I could just roll my eyes and grumble about it like I do with my other pet peeves.

I'm not trying to start a fight or make anyone mad, I just want people to find what they want easier and figured ranting into the void would at least get it out of my system 😅

[note: this is a non canon deleted scene from my fic tell me what i want to hear but reading that fic isnt necessary for this oneshot.]

“Michael?”

“Michael, are you alright?”

Suddenly, Scott was sitting beside him, one hand on his thigh and the other on his shoulder. Michael hadn’t even realized he had zoned out until then, thinking that, perhaps, he was only imagining Scott’s voice.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he replied, looking into Scott’s eyes, watching as they flickered with concern. “I guess I just didn’t expect to see you here today.”

“Yeah, well-” Scott shrugged, glancing off to the side. “Your dad needed to get something from the office, and being in the shop alone freaks me out…” His gaze returned to Michael, who was still looking back at him. Scott couldn’t help but smile. “And I wanted to see you, too.”

Michael grinned, knowing that he was probably blushing despite how much he tried to hide it. 

“You know,” he replied, leaning toward Scott. “Vincent’s on the cameras right now, and I’m sure he wants to see you.”

“I’ll try to catch him on my way out.” Scott reached out, hesitantly touching the darkened circles underneath Michael’s eyes as if they had just appeared at that moment. “You look tired. Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine, really. I’ve just been so busy with work and missing children’s cases, and on top of that, I’ve been having some weird dreams.” Michael grimaced before realizing what conversation he had just opened up. 

Scott was in those dreams.

Not only was Scott in the dreams, but he had a starring role, and he was oddly out of character compared to his real life self.

The next words out of Scott’s mouth were expected, but Michael still dreaded them.

“What were the dreams about?”

Michael sighed.

He could talk about it, though he never mentioned Scott’s presence in his dreams. That was the part that he would take to his grave.

“I was in a cabaret, but it was empty, all except for one chair. I sat down and the stage lit up…”

The show began.

Scott stepped out from the nothingness beside the stage and stepped onto it. 

Sometimes he wore his normal clothes. Sometimes he wore something more revealing.

Sometimes he wore the same outfit that he wore to the senior prom.

Sometimes he wore nothing at all.

Even though he hated performing for people, it was all that he ever did for Michael.

The band began to play, a soft drum beat shaking the floors.

“Michael,” Scott would say, crouching at the edge of the stage to brush his hand over the side of Michael’s face. “This song’s for you.”

Then, he would sing or dance and Michael would watch, physically unable to look away, as if Scott had cast a kind of spell on him. 

When the song drew to a close, he would applaud, his two hands joining in a vast sea of emptiness. If not for his applause, the room would be silent.

“Did you like the show?” He would ask sometimes, stepping down from the stage to sit in front of Michael.

Sometimes, he would stand for a while, silent, while the music continued.

Other times, he would run from the stage as quickly as he could in order to press his lips against Michael’s, holding him close.

When they pulled away, they both always had lipstick smeared across their lips, whether Scott had been wearing makeup during the show or not.

“Why did you do that?” Scott asked, a hint of fear growing in his eyes.

“What did I do?” Michael glanced around the room, confused.

Scott’s hands tightened around Michael’s forearms.

“Why did you kiss back?” he asked. “You know I love Vincent.” Sometimes, he added, “You know how I feel about your dad.”

In reality, Michael didn’t know how Scott felt about William. It was an odd detail that he never truly found the reason behind.

“Can we pretend?” Michael asked. “Pretend they don’t exist. It’s only us in this void; no one will stop us.”

Scott would take Michael’s shoulders after that, guiding him back into the singular chair before straddling his thighs. He nearly brushed his lips against Michael’s, but managed to make him wait.

“Yeah, we can pretend.” Scott muttered, moving even closer so that his hips were against Michael’s, making the man underneath him shudder. “I’ll play another song for you.”

The band started again.

yeah my bad, honestly forgot that he was half asian (I have not interacted w the show or fandom in a while, so thats on me tbh), but I definitely agree with your input. I know that Callum is the main character, so he’s going to get more love and attention, same as Rayla, especially since Rayllum is the main couple (not dissing on them or the ship ofc) but it really upsets me when I look for art/fics of Ezran he’s either A) with Callum or B) in the background of something Rayllum related and in fics i rarely ever see solo fics of just him, he’s either in the background of rayllum or being their therapist or something like that

TDP has done a good job when it comes to portraying their characters of color, and its nice to see POC in positions of power for once (Harrow, Ez, Janai, Anaya, Kasef, etc), I just wish that the fandom as a whole would do the same thing yknow?

Omg you're all good! That's actually why I've run two Ezran Appreciation Weeks (although I still need to finish my fics for the second one, but life got unexpectedly super busy) and why I use the tag Ezran centric for fics that well, focus primarily on him and his relationships, rather than him being in a supportive or background role. I still wanna write a fic about him and Janai (maybe I can work it into a speculative S5 piece, since it seems like maybe we'll get to see them on screen together, and they had a Lot of parallels in S4).

But yeah there are definitely people in the fandom who aren't open to critique in how they treat Ezran. I once pointed out that hey, most of the time when his character is incorrectly tagged in a post, it's almost always in relation to his brother. Did not go over well, but I don't really care. It was still worth saying (and hopefully people will think a bit more thoughtfully about it too).

We could definitely all do more; I do my best to put dents in it when I can, but with varying degrees of success I'm sure

How many works do you have on AO3?

I am but a baby, with a humble four works, and one drabble collection. Though I am proud to mention I do have several WIPs that I'm quite excited about, that includes some multi-chap pieces!

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

Again, only at humble beginnings, clocking in at 9094

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Right now, exclusively RWRB!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you reply to comments? Why or why not?

Yes, always! Even throughout my grad program, workshopping always inspired me and pushed me to be a better writer. I love commenting on works that connect with me, and I think it's so lovely to interact with people that cared enough about my words to do the same on my stories!

6. What is the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Everything out from me right now ends with fluff! But I do have an assassination attempt fic in progress. It'll be a 5+1 that leans heavily into hurt, without much comfort. I'm not having it end with an 'unhappy ending'. But also not quite a light, 'feel-good ending'.

7. What is the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I have one upcoming Halloween, Huh? fic that will have the most tooth-rotting fluff, featuring drunk!Henry, at the end that I think will keep this spot warm for a while. But, available right now, I'd probably say "i'll love you when the ocean's dry".

8. Do you get hate on fics?

So far, no. Thank gosh. I am an utter cry baby, and would sob profusely.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

My first smut piece is coming out for Halloween, Huh? ! I've also got a few oneshots on the "WIPs to Start' list. I think the vast majority of smut I'll write will interact with kink or D/s dynamics. As someone involved in the community, I love imagining FirstPrince experiencing the intensity and range of emotions that often accompanies play in this sphere.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don't, unfortunately. If I did, it would probably be some sort of FirstPrince x One Direction/Harry Styles or Taylor Swift situation.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope! It would be a wild honor though.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven't! I love the idea of collaborative writing though!

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

I think because FirstPrince is the only ship I've interacted with to this level, I have to say them!

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

"You realize I'm a trapped animal down here? You're keeping me in a cage. You cannot possibly be so fucking obtuse as to not see I'm miserable," Alex's voice was obstinate, dripping venom into each syllable. Henry's eyes shuttered closed. He spoke with nothing but neutrality, but something in his features gave way to a quiet melancholy. "You know I'd free you if I could. This is bigger than us both, Alex. Hate me all you'd like. I can live with that if it means you're still breathing." -- or, an au in which Henry is Hades, Alex is Persephone, and the history books never quite got the story right.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'd like to think my imagery tends to come across quite vividly! I also really strive to create small, tiny moments filled with softness.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Humor. I have always struggled intensely in capturing lines that come across as genuinely funny.

I also occassionally find myself really having to work at getting pacing into something that feels natural and fluid.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in a another language in fic?

I've had short instances of Alex speaking Spanish in a fic or two so far. I try to do so cautiously. I have a big fear of misrepresenting a language out of ignorance. Luckily, I'm able to interact with some lovely Spanish speakers in the Brownstone Server that are kind enough to take a look at some lines now and then!

20. Favorite fic you've written?

"i'd be smart to walk away (but you're quicksand)"! it's my longest fic, and also has some lines i'm really proud of!

It has sapphic human!WoF characters dancing beneath the starlight, what more could you want?

1 vote for "100 word drabble of Princess Greatness x Quickstrike", the first Quickstrike x Greatness fanfiction to be ever written and posted to ao3.

1 vote for "escaped later and helped liberate the Sky Kingdom" that fanfiction is a doozy, I tell you, but a very good one. Princess Greatness winds up marrying the King of the RainWings as one of his three sister-wives, Stonemover is an adorable five year old, and in a side story, Quickstrike was basically like a secret agent in that one, because getting around and just killing people is probably a limited way to do things.

1 vote for "Deathbringer tearfully tells how she died to Glory in a Glorybringer ff", which is frankly a classic when it comes to Glorybringer fanfictions. Technically not a Quickstrike moment directly, but her memory continues to shape Deathbringer's decisions to this day :').

All the other options have zero votes, despite being from pretty good fanfictions, if I say so myself. But frankly I should get a move on and talk about the winning option of this poll.

The moment in which Quickstrike waltzes with Princess Greatness and kisses her beneath the stars occurs in this fanfiction, a Wings of Fire oneshot amidst a collection of assorted Wings of Fire oneshots. In truth, I am very partial to it, and it was written by @izzy246girl who is on tumblr! She gave me permission to link the fanfiction if the option won, and so I did.

I think I actually have seen this in fic once or twice! Not as often as it should though, it does have great potential...

Concept: What if it’s one of the piglin instincts Techno has learned to ‘repress’ over years of practice (much like the gold thing. He still really likes gold and has a tendency to hoard it, but it doesn’t get the same automatic reactions out of him a normal piglin would have to gold). So when confronted with soul fire he manages to kind of push through that fear? Push it to a back corner of his mind to be ignored, so to speak.

Which is great until all that pent up fear comes back later, as soon as his brain processes he’s ‘safe’ and it results in him just straight up dissociating for a while. Ranboo and/or Phil finds him and make sure he’s taken care of until he’s good again, though they probably don't know why/what’s happening so cue worried friends and unresponsive Techno just absolutely OUT of it.

Hello and welcome to my Twisted Wonderland writing (side) blog! I’m your Stargazer, Vi! I’m here to collect your wishes and grant them in the form of writings!

This is my first time doing something like this but I’ve had so much fun reading others’ works that I decided to dip my hands in this to! I am fairly new to the series, so I’m not familiar with everything;; but I love the characters so much! I’ve read up to ch.6 but not all events/cards, so please bear with me while I familiarize myself with the cast!

I will be cross posting on here and AO3, so you can read on both sites! I post under the same username/url (Villainess Prefect)!

Genres range from fluff to semi-dark. AUs, Yandere, and self-aware stuff are okay with me! I’m more inclined to write fluff more than anything, so thats my bias lol.

I won’t be writing explicit NSFW stuff or anything related to pregnancy.

My primary focus of this blog is writing scenarios/drabbles/oneshots! Sorry, no headcanons/bullet posts here!

Bloodied and Broken is my Dragon Age series following Inquisitor Ixchel and her battle to find hope for herself, and hope for Thedas.

Ixchel Lavellan came to the Conclave at 16 in an effort to win favor from the Dalish Clan that had adopted her. Her following tenure as Inquisitor was a troubled one: desperate to please everyone around her while still developing to her own moral compass, she often found herself surrounded by tragedy and disappointment. Yet in the Inquisition, she also found herself as part of a family for the very first time.

That family scattered to the winds once Corypheus was defeated, and in the wake of the Exalted Council and Solas’s revelations, Ixchel was left even more heartbroken. She is tired of being the Hope of Fen’Harel, and the Hope of Thedas--and she is tired of being alone.

Her story truly begins in Dead Pasts and Dread Futures--with her suicide.

As the world ends, Ixchel is resurrected under mysterious circumstances and is sent back in time to the Conclave. Ixchel is furious, convinced of her own futility, and yet she cannot give up again.

These are the stories of how she gets better. She’ll bring the world with her on that journey, which continues now in The Brave Guide.

Bloodied & Broken is massive, with an abundance of time dedicated to examining and growing Ixchel’s complicated relationships with every single member of her inner circle--and plenty of NPCs. Ixchel’s relationships with Vivienne, Dorian, Cassandra, Briala and some secret additions are a major focus, as well as how Ixchel interacts with and shapes the religions, politics, and factions of Thedas!

1.0 - Lead Her Through the Darkness - [BECandCall]: Oneshot. Complete.This is the story of how Ixchel found her name. BECandCall aka DuchessofSwoll wrote this gift for me during the Dragon Age Fanfiction discord server’s OC swap month.

1.1 - Two-Handed: INCOMPLETE. The story of Ixchel’s first life, as a teenage Inquisitor. Ixchel comes to the Conclave as an effort to win favor from Clan Lavellan. She does not have vallaslin, or any experience as a warrior--or any idea of how precious friends and family could be. This is not a Solavellan story.

1.2 - Ruined Empires and Dust: Drabbles from Ixchel’s young life. Angsty.

1.3 - The Vallaslin: Oneshot. Complete. Ixchel is finally offered the vallaslin of Dirthamen after proving to Keeper Hawen how dedicated she is to preserving Elven history. Solas cannot in good conscience let her take them. Not without a warning. (Follow-up post here.)

1.4 - The Hope of Fen’Harel: Oneshot. Complete. Ixchel’s Trespasser eluvian scene with Solas. 

2.0 - Dead Pasts and Dread Futures. 170 chapters, 580k. Complete. Ixchel is in her mid-twenties when she ends her life, tired of being the Hope of Thedas and the Hope of Fen’Harel, and tired of being alone. As the world ends, she gets resurrected and sent back in time. She is very angry, and very depressed about it. Ixchel struggles. She finds hope.

3.0 - The Brave Guide. Longfic. ONGOING! Regular updates. A direct continuation of Dead Pasts and Dread Futures.

My beautiful friend and dear Beta, Ed, decided to write how her OC Talenna convinced and orchestrated Ixchel to do a bonding ceremony with Solas, at the Arlathvhen, after Corypheus’s defeat. It’s beautiful and I adore it.

(3.3) the road seems too wild for mixing it with blues. Oneshot. Complete. Written as a gift for the Solavellan Hell Exchange 2022. Solas and Ixchel have a happy ending, visiting Cumberland as tourists--not as famed and feared leaders. Pure fluff.

(3.4) it ends, or it doesn’t. 7 chapters, 45k. Complete. Written for a terribly managed Big Bang, but one of my favorite fics ever. Felassan finds himself investigating a murder with a ragtag group of three outcast Dalish, uncovering an ancient ruin hidden in plain sight, and  the ugly secret trapped at its heart. The Dragon Age Fanfic Writers Discord Server anniversary (Aug 2021) generated a bunch of crossover-type gift fis and introduced the idea of a multiverse connected by eluvians. Thus, the Mirrorverse was born.

The Bar at the End of the Multiverse - [CrackingLamb]. Oneshot. Multiple Inquisitor Lavellans wander through mysterious eluvians and find themselves at a bar for some bonding time.

Walkers of the Lonely Path. Multichapter (5). Complete. A gift fic I wrote for six Lavellans and one Mahariel. It’s essentially a dungeon crawl, with lots of lore, angst, and elven bonding.

i want to share your mouthful - [RosellaWrites]. Oneshot. Virelan Lavellan post-Trespasser struggles to let go of the weight of her responsibilities as Inquisitor and mother. Ixchel helps with sparring, bathing, and some sex.

Part II; Chapter 12 In which Thief King Bakura and Ryou are dearly, deeply in love 399 words; rated M 

"Look at this..." the Thief King purred, his large hands slipping beneath the blue silks Ryou wore. Hot stirrings, arousal and self-consciousness, made Ryou's skin flush. Bakura's hands roamed over the sumptuous flesh of Ryou's hips and middle, caressing and squeezing and gently pinching.

"Bakura...! Please...!" Ryou squirmed a bit, then squeaked as Bakura tipped him onto his back. The Thief King slid Ryou's tunic off despite Ryou's halfhearted attempts to keep it in place.

"You're so soft," Bakura crooned, leaning down to kiss Ryou's belly. It was plush, and Ryou only grew more flustered with the attention. "I'm so glad... you got all scrawny again, when you were sneaking me food... I told you not to give me your own meals, but I could tell you didn't listen... it hurt me, to see that happen..."

"So embarrassing..." Ryou breathed, as Bakura kissed his stomach again.

"Not embarrassing. Lovely..." Bakura's hands gripped Ryou's hips; ran his thumbs along the hipbones which, once so prominent, were now all but hidden. "Beautiful..." Bakura moved to the left; kissed the crest of Ryou's pelvis. "Gorgeous..."

"Ah! Get off me, you—!” Ryou objected weakly, and the Thief King obliged with a cheerful laugh. Ryou sat up too quickly; blinked, for a moment, and then crawled onto Bakura’s lap. He pressed his hands to the powerful muscles of Bakura's chest—relaxed, now, and so unexpectedly soft in their turn. “And what about you? Not a bone to be seen on the King of Thieves, anymore. You frightened me, then—you looked half-dead, when I came back to you.”

"I was dead, my love." Bakura kissed him—deeply, with the flavor of wine and roast meat on his lips. "And now I'm alive, thanks to you."

"You keep saying that..."

"Because it's true," Bakura mumbled, against Ryou's mouth. "You fed me. You loved me. You brought me wine, and you fucked me so tenderly I nearly died all over again."

Ryou mumbled something hopelessly inarticulate, but returned the kiss; said, "I'll always do that. All of those things. I'll always do those things, my King..."

Bakura tipped him back again, then; growled, "Nah. Let me fuck you tenderly, tonight. Let me worship this soft, sweet body."

Ryou gasped; choked out, "Whatever you want, Thief King..." as Bakura began to lavish him with corporeal affections.

"Maybe tomorrow... we can switch."

Adrien is being a cat and gets tangled in the curtains on his window and it’s utterly ridiculous. all the bug and the cat tendencies make it funnier and adrien’s inner monologue is just a cherry on top!

Flowers on the Window Sill by LNC [ G,  2,144 words, 1/1 ]

The first time Ladybug saw him, really saw him, the universe stopped.

this fic feels like poetry and it’s so lovely. LNC is always short and direct but it always hits right in the feels while also being hilarious. Her  other ladrien works are just as good and i highly recommend going through them because it fulfills all of the ladrien needs (along with Reiaji)

this is absolutely gorgeous. it has so many troupes and so many amazing character arc and great build up and everything just flows so well. it left me in awe for weeks and i just. want to experience reading it for the first time again. look at this gorgeous art inspired by this! {and you have to read  leonard bernstein too because LETTERS and LADRIEN and YEARNING}

it expands on adrien’s feelings in the episode desperada (my beloved <3) and it is just ouch. such great angst, such great potential. the kind of tragedy that it offers is unusual for ml (it gets only rivaled by chat blanc tbh). to rival this angst bugabisous also has a fluffy one-shot :)

post-hawkmoth defeat, and adrien is not doing well at all. i am cheating because it is post reveal, pre relationship but it’s still ladrien. this fic is a roller coater of emotions, starting from a slightly crack scenario to a cute, awkward, hopeful ending.  More Than You Know is another of sunny’s angsty ladrien work!

*slaps this fic* this fic can fit in so much angst. it just?? left me in PAIN oof. it says ‘ladrien fistfight’ on the lid but nooo there is marinette is just having a freak out and it’s all so much??!! and it’s not just marinette there is adrien too and chloe and alya and- wow it’s amazing. love it so much it fills up my angst needs :’)

Relatively Decent Tips About Tagging On AO3

By a relatively unknown fanfic author...

1. In the relationships section, tag only the relationships relevant to the plot. Nobody wants to read a 300k Tomarry story if they were looking for Romione you tagged because it’s a minor relationship.

2. If you do want to tag your minor and/or past relationships, you can do this in the ‘Additional Tags’ section. You might’ve noticed that should you add ‘minor’ or ‘past’ in front of a relationship tag, AO3 will mark it as ‘freeform’. This is because the area for ‘minor’ or ‘past’ relationships is in the ‘Additional Tags’ section.

3. Don’t tag every character to appear in the entire fic. Please. All you’re doing is creating a wall of tags it takes ages to scroll past and nobody cares enough to read. Tag only the characters that you’d use the character tag filter to find the fic for. If in doubt, there is a ‘Minor Character(s)’ tag.

4. For that matter, don’t create walls of tags. Not every single thing that happens in the story is needed in the tagging.  Tag ‘fluff’, ‘angst’, ‘crack’, etc., tag the triggers or the squicks, tag the minor relationships, then tag things that are important enough to be searched for. Your tags are a non-spoiling summary, not a plot. Personally, I’m unlikely to read a story with more than twenty ‘Additional Tags’.

5. This is not Wattpad, please put spaces in between your words. It makes my eyes bleed to read ThisCharacterIsAnIdiotILoveHimSoMuch. Please. Just add spaces, it won’t kill you.

6. Don’t be afraid to add personal tags! It gives the readers a taste of what you, the author, is like, and what the story could be like, too. Be careful not to add too many, or it becomes a tag wall. A tasteful joke or commentary is always welcome, though!

7. Don’t try and tag every single variant of that one tag. The chances are that AO3 merges the tags together anyway.

8. Ratings are important. General Audiences is what you would read to children twelve and under, or in film terms, a U. Teen And Up is what I’d call PG, Mature as a 15, and Explicit as 18. More simply: if you wouldn’t read your kissing scene to a nine year old and then look their parents in the eye, it’s not G. Any graphic sex scenes would go under E.

9. Don’t tag as a crossover if you’re writing a fusion. I cannot express my frustration at trying to find a crossover and actually getting what should be tagged as ‘Alternate Universe - [Fandom] Fusion’. If it’s a Hogwarts AU, but uses none of the characters from the Harry Potter ‘verse, tag it as a fusion, not a crossover. If it’s a Hunger Games AU, but uses none of the characters from the Hunger Games ‘verse, tag it as a fusion, not a crossover.

10. Your categories are best left to the relationship tags. For example, a M/M story would have a M/M ship in the relationship tags, not a minor relationship that goes in the ‘Additional Tags’ section.

11. Do not tag the ship name as a fandom. There is a relationship tag section for a reason. ‘Drarry’ is not a fandom, ‘Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling’ is.

12. ‘No Archive Warnings Apply’ and ‘Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings’ are NOT the same and should NOT be used interchangeably. If you don’t know how to use the warning system and aren’t sure if your fic classifies under one of the warnings, use ‘Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings’, not ‘No Archive Warnings Apply’. Without warnings, readers are told that they are going in blind, with no idea of what’s ahead - like being told ‘read at your own risk’. When told that no warnings apply, readers are told that the fic is perfectly safe for them. If this is not the case, they will be mad.

13. Don’t even bother adding more than one oneshot, drabble, or short fic in a single work. It will become a tag dump, it will have relationship tags or character tags that aren’t used for the entire thing, and I guarantee you that people will complain about it. If you’re that desperate to keep them all together, make a series. I can’t stop you from doing this, but I can damn well tell you not to, and I can ask that you at least tag with ‘drabble collection’, ‘fic collection’, or ‘oneshot collection’ so I can filter it out.

14. If there’s a character that you want to keep secret, use the ‘Undisclosed Character(s)’ tag. At least then the readers know, right?

15. Tag ‘Original Character(s)’ rather than their character name. The readers won’t be filtering in/out the character’s name, as they don’t know the character’s name.

16. Tag for reader- or self-inserts. People will be pissed if you don’t.

17. Use ‘&’ for platonic pairings and ‘/’ for romantic pairings. People know this system and how it works, using ‘/’ for platonic pairings will attract the wrong kind of reader, likewise with ‘&’ for romantic pairings. They also probably won’t finish reading once they realise.

18. Only tag for platonic relationships if they are the focus of the fic. Tagging them just because there is a frienship/sibling dynamic within the fic is ridiculous, because people are aware who are friends and who are siblings. Unless the relationship is significant to the story, ditch the tag. There are also additional tags for this sort of thing.

19. Yes, you need to tag for sex scenes, no, these are not the only tags you should have on your fic that is more than just a sex scene. I enjoy a nice sex scene just as much as the next, but if you mark it as explicit, tag for sex, tag the main points of the sex scene, then move on. You do not need to tag every tiny detail. Unless it is of major importance to the scene or fic, don’t bother. Large amounts of sex tags can turn people away from the fic. Your tags are a summary and a warning, not the plot.

20. “But how can I be sure I’m using the right tags, Trixie?” Tag your major tropes, tag the fic’s genre (ie: angst, crack, horror), tag your AU, tag the triggers/squicks, and add those selling point tags. Boom. Done. If there are similar fics out there, check their tags and see if yours look alike. You could even steal some of them.

This is my guide; it might not work for everyone. My thoughts are my own, and you are welcome to disagree or ignore me completely, but hey! I tried.
